A Psychological Trick to Making Your Retirement Feel Like a New Beginning Instead of an Ending
During our working years, many of us dream of the day we can finally retire and spend our days doing what we want. However, many retirees report feeling sad when their careers finally come to an end, grieving the past as they would the loss of a loved one.
However, there is a psychological trick you can use to give yourself a fresh perspective about your retirement, making the turn of the page feel more like a fresh start than the end of a chapter. Not only that, but the experts we spoke with said that you can use this for all sorts of other things in your life as well. Keep reading to learn more about this trick and how to apply it to your everyday life.
How To View Retirement as a New BeginningThe way we interpret change affects how we feel and how we behave, according to Amy Morin, a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, LCSW, and Psychotherapist, and author of The Mental Strength Playbook. "If we see change as bad or think that a change is going to be hard, we'll struggle," she says, adding that the stories we tell ourselves become self-fulfilling prophecies. "We'll look for more evidence to make it true and behave in a way that reinforces our beliefs."
Instead, when we view a change as a fresh start or new beginning, Morin says we look for evidence that things will be better. "And we'll find that evidence and begin behaving in a way that makes it so."
What is the 'New Beginning' TrickWhen you view change as an opportunity rather than a threat, Morin says you'll work to overcome challenges. "If you view those same challenges as a threat, you're more likely to view problems as insurmountable obstacles." She says this trick works just as well for a big goal as for a small change.
"Your subconscious scans for what you're looking for, either threats or opportunities," she continues. "If you walk into a new situation, like retirement, telling yourself it's a new beginning, your subconscious will respond accordingly and look for helpful ways to support you in this new phase of your life."

Setting Goals Can Also HelpAnother trick that can help you reframe your mindset about retirement is to think of this phase of your life as "launching a second act," according to Jason Fierstein, MA, LPC, the founder of Phoenix Men's Counseling.
That could include setting a big, audacious goal, like learning a new language. However, not all of your goals need to be so monumental. "It's important to set goals even if they are not big or audacious," he says, adding that you should start by asking yourself how you see your retirement and what you want it to look like, and then building your goals around those answers.
"If you haven't tapped into your subconscious, you are going to sputter trying to achieve goals," he says. "For a lot of people, retirement means you are in the same house and spend more time with a spouse." Sometimes, unaddressed marital issues can surface that may impact your happiness, or other issues that have been lying under the surface, affecting your own mental health.
If you're struggling to find happiness in your retirement, and these tricks don't seem to be making a dent in how you're feeling, you may want to reach out to a mental health expert who can help you figure out what you need to do to reframe your thinking around retirement so that you can begin to enjoy your golden years. After all, you worked your whole life to get here. You deserve to enjoy yourself.

Harry Hamlin Has Blunt Answer About Lisa Rinna Returning to 'RHOBH'
Harry Hamlin knows his wife best.
The longtime actor was recently asked if his wife Lisa Rinna, would ever return to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and had an immediate and blunt response.
"I'd have to be six feet under for that to happen because it's over my dead body," he told Page Six while chatting at a Food Bank For NYC event this week. "They're gangsters over there, she can't work for them anymore."
View this post on InstagramRinna, 62, was on the Bravo reality show from 2014-2023 and brought no shortage of drama as she became known for outrageous scenes which included breaking wine glasses and making accusations about other cast members on camera.
And as for her own thoughts on returning to the series, she told Entertainment Tonight upon the release of her book, 'You Better Believe I'm Gonna Talk About It,'Â in February, that it would "take at least $5 million."
Regardless of any gossip or drama she participated in though, she regards her final season as her worst since she was dealing with the death of her beloved mother.
âYou know, it was just really unfortunate," she said on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast "Dinner's on Me" podcast. "In hindsight, it wouldâve been better if I had said, 'Guys, listen, Iâm gonna take this season off. Iâm just gonna take a break.'"
"I also knew that they needed me on the show at this point," she added. "So it was not gonna be like, 'Oh, sure, sweetie. Go, go. Take your time.'âÂ
While we won't see her on the Real Housewives again, Rinna didn't quit reality TV cold turkey as she played her hand on Season 4 of Peacock's The Traitors, an exhausting feat, Hamlin told the outlet.
"She came home and went to bed for a month and a half after that, but she enjoyed it, she had a good time," Hamlin said. "I was not able to really talk to her while she was doing it, they basically make you a prisoner while you're there...I thought she did an amazing job."

Elton John Fans Debated If 1974 Song Was Revenge or a Joke
Some hits have the best stories behind them, especially those about a former lover or enemy. Elton John released "The B-tch Is Back" in 1974, and for years, there was the question of who was the b-tch? Was the inspiration coming from a playful place or with anger? Here is the backstory involving songwriter Bernie Taupin.
Elton John Inspired the Song Full of Cursing Bernie Taupin, Maxine Feibelman, and Elton JohnMike Maloney/Mirrorpix/Getty Images
Caribou has the song as its second single. The lyrics don't hold back on using the curse word, which made it impossible to play on radio stations.
"I'm a b-tch, I'm a b-tch, oh, the b-tch is back/Stone-cold sober, as a matter of fact/I can b-tch, I can b-tch 'cause I'm better than you/It's the way that I move, the things that I do, oh-oh-oh." Taupin revealed the inspiration behind the self-declarative song, according to His Song: The Musical Journey of Elton John by Elizabeth Rosenthal.
"[Taupin] later revealed that his then wife Maxine [Feibelman] coined the song's recurring phrase in response to one of Elton's notoriously bad moods," she wrote. "'Oh God, the b-tch is back!' she exclaimed. The song, in essence, was born. All Bernie had to do was flesh it out."
The author believes it was a joke between the friends. John made it clear during some of his live performances that the title referred to him.
The song has reached beyond its initial hurdles with the radio. Glee featured it in an episode, mashing it up with "Dress You Up" by Madonna. Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson took the lead on John's lyrics. It was also featured in 2026's Off Campus, with Hannah Wells (Ella Bright) blowing off steam.

1977 Classic Hit Ranked 'the Happiest Rock Song of All Time'
While classic rock might be known for some somber songs, there are plenty of happy hits from the genre. For instance, Far Out published a list of the "40 happiest classic rock songs of all time," which included fun classics like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's "Our House" from 1970, "Sunday Morning" by The Velvet Underground, "Donât Stop Believinâ" by Journey, Joni Mitchell's "California," and Eagles' 1972 hit "Take It Easy."
The ranking's top five songs featured "Happy Together" by The Turtles, The Beatles' "Hey Jude" from 1968, John Lennon's 1971 hit "Imagine," and The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" from 1981.
Electric Light Orchestra's 1977 hit "Mr. Blue Sky" took home the title of the happiest classic rock song ever released.
Jeff Lynne Revealed How He Wrote 'Mr. Blue Sky' in 2017Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra shared how he came up with "Mr. Blue Sky," which is off the 1977 record, Out of the Blue, in a 2017 interview with Top 2000 a gogo. He shared that he wrote the song after he was "on a mountain" in Switzerland.
"I'd been there like about a week. And it'd been cloudy and misty all the time," recalled the British musician, now 78.
He said when the sun finally appeared, he was surrounded by "blue sky."
"I could see for it forever you know and it was just beautiful and it made me write 'Mr. Blue Sky,'" said Lynne in the 2017 interview.
Lynne also noted that he decided to rerecord the song, as well as several of Electric Light Orchestra's other hits, in 2012. He explained that he "had 30 years more experience as a producer" and wanted "to have another go at" past songs.
"I don't think I did them justice the first time around, some of them, and I started off with 'Mr. Blue Sky,'" said Lynne.
He said that his manager preferred the newer version of the song.
"He said, 'Wow that sounds so much better than the old one.' And everybody else seemed to be very pleased with it too, so we said 'Make an album,'" said Lynne, in reference to the 2012 record, Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra.
The 2026 RMD Rule Change That Could Trigger a Massive Tax Bill for Certain Retirees
Tax law can be hard to understand on a good day. However, when the U.S. government announces changes to tax laws, many people scramble to keep up. Take, for example, the 2026 updates to Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) proposed under the SECURE Act 2.0.
The change to the law will help some retirees keep more of their money in their pockets. However, certain folks will end up with a bigger tax bill, especially if they didn't plan ahead and make changes to how they receive these disbursements. We spoke with an expert to find out what you need to know so that you can prepare to make these changes ahead of the IRS deadline. Here's what they said.
What is the New RMD RuleEffective 2026, if a worker is 50 or older and the prior year's wages exceeded $145,000 per year, any catch-up contributions to an employer plan must be made into a Roth account, according to Roland Chow, financial planner and portfolio manager at Optura Advisors. "Because by default these funds now go into Roth, this bucket of money is shielded from lifetime RMD requirements."

What Specific Tax Penalties Might You Face if You Miss Your Two-Year WindowThe penalty is based on the amount that should have been withdrawn but was not, according to T.L. Turnipseed at Alta Trust Company. "Under SECURE Act 2.0, the excise tax is generally 25 percent of the shortfall, reduced to 10 percent if the missed RMD is corrected within the applicable two-year correction window," he says, adding that you should file Form 5329 for the year the RMD was missed, and the IRS can waive the tax entirely if the failure was due to reasonable error and reasonable steps are being taken to fix it.
"As a simple example, if a client was required to withdraw $40,000 but withdrew only $25,000, the $15,000 shortfall could produce a $3,750 excise tax, or $1,500 if corrected in time," he says.

How to Use Qualified Charitable Distribution to Lower Your Tax BillChow says that you can use a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to lower your tax bill. "Instead of writing a check to a charity, give to the charity out of the IRA via QCD," he says. "Essentially, the charity gets more since these are pre-taxed dollars, and the retiree effectively lowers their AGI by not doing a withdrawal against the IRA."
However, Chow notes that a QCD doesn't just reduce the retiree's income taxes; it can also lower taxes on Social Security income and Medicare premiums. "With an RMD or normal distribution against an IRA account, there are ordinary income taxes against that distribution. Plus, it can increase the taxes assessed against social security and against Medicare premiums."
The $111,000 limit for QCD this year applies per person, according to Chow, who says a retiree can QCD up to that limit, and then their spouse can also QCD up to that limit. "This allows a tremendous amount to be given away, plus there may be even more advanced strategies by which a client can receive income and leave a legacy via their QCDs."
Of course, you'll want to talk to a certified tax pro to make sure that these options will work in your unique financial situation. Not just so that you can minimize the amount of taxes that you owe, but so that you can also make sure there aren't other tax issues lying in wait.

One Recent Study Shows That 67 Percent of Married Couples Are Not on the Same Page About This Important Life Event
For better or for worse may not include retirement, according to a new study. That's because Western & Southern Financial Group says that a shocking 67 percent of married couples can't agree on their retirement plans.
The financial group made the discovery while surveying over 1,000 married Americans, checking in with them on everything from whether they've discussed their retirement to how they plan to support their adult children. Shockingly, many people are at odds with their partners over these major decisions, which is surprising given that many of these choices are made after spending a lifetime together.
Only 43 Percent of Couples Agree on What Retirement Will Look LikeThe Western & Southern Financial Group survey offers a unique look into the financial situation of the average American. That's because the group surveyed 1,008 married couples about "their financial conversations, disagreements, and long-term plans." According to the March 2026 report, many couples are at odds over whether they will support their adult children or aging parents (only 54 percent report being on the same page). Meanwhile, only 75 percent have even discussed their future retirement plans.
While it may seem hard to believe that so many couples want different things in retirement, it may make more sense when you consider that traditionally, women retire earlier than men. According to Investopedia, women tend to retire at an average age of 62.6, while men tend to wait until 64.6.
That means women may have started planning their own retirements, focusing on what they will do on their own in the years before their spouses join them.

Couples Tend to Wait to Have Hard Financial ConversationsDaydreaming about what you'll do in your retirement may sound like a fun way to pass the time with your partner, but according to the survey, many couples shy away from having conversations that involve money, debt, and death:
- 48 percent of couples discuss salaries prior to getting engaged
- 47 percent of couples discuss debt before getting engaged
- 39 percent of couples discuss their last will and testament after having kids
Related: Here's What You Should Spend Your May Social Security Check On, According to Experts
"Money conversations often start later than many expect," the report says. "Nearly a quarter of married Americans said they have never discussed debt with their spouse, and 40 percent said they avoided discussing long-term financial goals early in their relationship."
While I personally can understand wanting to avoid hard conversations like money and finances when you're first getting to know someone, it clearly behooves you to have the talk earlier rather than later, if only so that you can ensure that you're both aligned when it comes to your future. Otherwise, you could end up marrying someone whose dream retirement includes a secluded cabin in the woods, while you're out there working towards buying a picturesque bungalow in a beach community.

Jersey Shoreâs Angelina Pivarnick Revealed Her Pregnancy on This Weekâs Episode of âFamily Vacationâ
Then there was one. It looks like Jersey Shoreâs Vinny Guadagnino is the last single, child-free member of the cast standing. On the most recent episode of Family Vacation, Angelina Pivarnick revealed that she's pregnant with her first child. So, how did the reveal go? Well, to start with, it all happened at a first birthday party.Â
ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY - DECEMBER 01: (L-R) Sammi Giancola, Deena Nicole Cortese, Jenni Farley, Nicole Polizzi, and Angelina Pivarnick attend The Cast of âJersey Shoreâ Roast at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on December 01, 2025 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. (Photo by Manny Carabel/Getty Images for Paramount +)As it turns out, Aneglina took a pregnancy test on camera during Mike âThe Situationâ Sorrentinoâs daughter Lunaâs bday bash. The results aired during the May 14 show.Â
This news may come as no surprise to fams, especially after Pivarnick revealed (on the previous weekâs episode) that she had already purchased sperm from a donor. But as it turns out, this wasn't money well spent. Based on the expectant momâs reaction, she didnât really need to make that purchase.Â
With Sammi âSweetheartâ Giancola waiting by her side, Pivarnick held a positive pregnancy test and gushed, âThereâs no way that it just happened naturally. Thereâs no sperm donor now.â Afterward, during a confessional interview, the soon-to-be new first-time mom said, âI am pregnant!â She continued, âI did not think I was going to be able to get pregnant, but wow.â
Prior to Pivarnickâs news, Sammi was the last cast member to announce a pregnancy. Giancola and her husband, Justin May, welcomed their first child, son Vincent Keith May, in August of 2025.Â
The reality star was still pregnant with Vincent during filming, which made her visibly emotional. She welled up when Pivarnick showed her the positive pregnancy test, saying, âI have goosebumps.â Giancola added (in a confessional interview), âI know how stressful it is to get pregnant. And then you finally get pregnant, and itâs so scary, like itâs a lot of um, stress. But Iâm happy to be here for her, as an actual friend.âÂ
Given Agelinaâs rocky road to motherhood, itâs understandable that she didnât believe the positive test. And thatâs when she told Sammi that she needed to take another one.Â
During the episode, The Situation almost spilled the beans. âIâm sending positive vibes to you and your newâŠa, house coming shortly. So amazing. Good news.â Of course, by house he meant baby. In a confessional interview, he explained that while moving into a new home is really big news, âItâs even bigger news if you tell us you could be pregnant.â He continued, âBut, Iâm happy for her.âÂ
It looks like âThe Situationâ and Sammi âSweetheartâ arenât the only ones happy for Angelina. After posting, âIâm pregnant!â on X, friends and fans chimed in with comments such as, âThis is so big, Iâm so happy for you,â and, âIâm so happy for you, girl your going to be an amazing mom,â congratulating the Jersey Shore star.Â
Angelina is yet to release any specific details about the pregnancy or her due date.

The author, whose beloved memoir was adapted into Reese Witherspoonâs 2014 movie Wild, shared a sweet photo of Lindstrom, known for documentaries like Alien Boy and Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill. She stated that he died on Friday morning from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 65.
"Brian Lindstrom died this morning the way he livedâwith gentleness and courage, grace and gratitude for his beautiful life. Our children, Carver and Bobbi, and I held him as he took his last breath and we will hold him forever in our hearts. The only thing more immense than our sorrow that Progressive Supranuclear Palsy took our beloved Brian from us is the endless love we have for him," Strayed wrote. "What tremendous luck it was to be his partner for more than thirty years. We loved each other and our kids with deep devotion and true delight. He was a stellar husband. He was the most magnificent dad. He was a man whose every word and deed was driven by kindness, compassion, and generosity. He saw the goodness in everyone. He believed that we are all sacred and redeemable."

"His greatest legacy is Carver and Bobbi, who embody everything good and true about their father. Their extraordinary grace, courage, and fortitude during this harrowing time was unfaltering and grounded in the undying love Brian poured into them every day of their lives," Strayed continued. "We do not know how we will live without him. Weâre utterly bereft. We can only walk this dark path and search for the beauty Brian knew was there. It will be his eternal light that guides us."
Strayed Shared About Lindstrom's Illness on April 30On April 30, Strayed took to Instagram to share that she would be canceling upcoming appearances because Lindstrom had been diagnosed with what she described as a âserious, fatal illness.â
âI simply cannot do anything but be with my family right now and see to our broken hearts,â she wrote. âI ask that you hold us in your thoughts, prayers, light, and love.â

He appeared in small films and landed recurring TV roles on shows like Walker, Texas Ranger and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman during the '90s. In 2005, Sheridan landed his first recurring role, playing Danny Boyd on UPNâs Veronica Mars (alongside Kristen Bell), which earned him his first taste of recognition, with appearances on the show lasting until 2007.

Sam Heughan Just Joked About an 'Outlander' Spinoff With His On-Screen Sonâand Fans Are Losing It
Outlander fans, the series finale countdown is upon us!
The hit STARZ drama wraps its eight-season run on Friday, May 15, 2026. But two days earlier, Sam Heughan (Jamie), CaitrĂona Balfe (Claire) and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts reunited for Outlander: A Celebration at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The PaleyLive event started with a special screening of Outlander'svery first episode and even gave fans a sneak peek at the series finale.
It was certainly an emotional night as the trio reflected on and reminisced about the show's 12-year runâand when Heughan cracked a joke regarding a possible spinoff, the audience erupted into cheers and laughter. As you anxiously await the Outlander series finale, read on to discover what the actor said about that powerful fishing scene between Jamie and William.
Sam Heughan on Jamie and William's Emotional Fishing SceneWhen asked about filming the final season, Heughan immediately praised Charles Vandervaart, who joined the cast during Season 7 to play an older version of William.
"Charles is absolutely brilliant," he said. "And going back and looking over his early scenes, he really is just very, very special. And Jamie's relationship with himânot being able to be his father from a distance because he's working on the estateâand then them building this relationship over years. It was really beautiful."

Heughan added that filming the fan-favorite scene was a top memory for him, too. "I think one of my favorite days was the fishing scene," he continued. "It was one of those beautiful days in Scotland and the river was flowing. [Charles] has got a lot of soul to him. He's ridiculous as wellâthat's probably why we get on!"
For viewers who also read Diana Gabaldon's book series, the scene carries an extra layer of emotion. That's because in the Outlander novelsâback when William had no idea Jamie was actually his biological fatherâJamie teaches a young William how to fish. The choice to revisit that moment in the show's final seasonâwith William now fully aware that Jamie is his dadâwas the kind of gut punch fans have come to know and love throughout the show's run. Honestly, chef's kiss.
Will Jamie Return in an 'Outlander' Spinoff? So here's the thing: After praising Vandervaart and discussing the scene, Heughan quipped: "Now we've become this action duoâthereâs a spinoff series there! Maybe Jamie and Charles [William] in a kayak."
And while he was clearly joking, fans don't have to completely say goodbye to the Outlander universe after the series finale. Its prequel spinoff Outlander: Blood of My Bloodâwhich follows the love stories of Jamie and Claire's parentsâpremiered on STARZ in August 2025 and Season 2 will arrive later this year.
Just months ago, Heughan made it clear in his Parade cover story that he was ready to move on from Jamie Fraser. "Our story has ended, our journey has, but the books will go on," he said. But now, his offhand spinoff joke is giving fans a glimmer of hope that he hasn't fully closed the door on the beloved character.
The Outlander series finaleâtitled "And the World Was All Around Us"âpremieres Friday, May 15, 2026, at midnight ET exclusively on the STARZ app. Twenty hours later, it makes its TV debut at 8 p.m. ET on the linear network.
25 Years Ago, This WWE Legend Landed His First Movie Role
There's no doubt that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of Hollywood's most iconic stars. Although he initially rose to fame as a WWE Superstar, he had to build his acting career from the ground up. In 2001, Johnson landed his first major movie role in The Mummy Returns, which has since become a fan-favorite for both film and wrestling enthusiasts.
Johnson's first big-screen role as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns was a pivotal moment for the professional wrestler. At just 29 years old and at the height of his WWE career, he leaped into acting. Following his main event match against Stone Cold Steve Austin during WrestleMania X-Seven (17) for the WWF Championship, Johnson took a hiatus from wrestling to pursue acting. Although he lost to Stone Cold for the title, he quickly captured the attention of mainstream Hollywood.
Starring in The Mummy Returns marked a turning point in Johnson's career. From that role onward, the 6-foot-five athlete steadily established himself as an A-list actor. In 2002, he reprised his role as the Scorpion King in a spin-off prequel of the same name. Leading roles in movies such as Walking Tall, Tooth Fairy,Empire State, Moana, Baywatch, San Andreas, and many more followed, expanding The Rock's impressive resume. He also joined the Fast & Furiousfranchise as Hobbs and became a major Hollywood producer, launching his entertainment company, Seven Bucks Productions.

During their conversation, Johnson credited Fraser with helping him establish his onscreen career beyond the bright lights of WWE. "That was one of the biggest franchises in the world at that time. Beloved around the world. You were the face of that franchise. I was ready to make my transition into Hollywood, and I was excited. I had this opportunity to be cast in your movie as the Scorpion King," he recalled.
Johnson fondly added, "I remember meeting with Stephen Sommers, our director, and all the folks at Universal. I was so excited. They told me, 'We're just going to talk to Brendan.' There was a moment where you could have said, 'Hey, listen, I love this idea of a character called the Scorpion King, but this guy, Dwayne Johnson, he's never acted before. I know he's from pro wrestling; I'm not too sure.' The word that I got back was, 'Brendan loves the idea. He welcomes you with open arms.' And it really meant something to me, because not only was it your franchise, and you took a shot and a risk with me, who had never acted back then, but that also kicked off my career."
Today, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is celebrated as a highly decorated wrestler, Golden Globeânominated performer, and Hollywood executive powerhouse.
Songwriter Linda Perry Turns Inward for Her Most Personal Work Yet, 'Let It Die Here' [Exclusive]
Few songwriters of the past four decades have shaped pop music quite like Linda Perry, whose deeply emotional lyrics and fearless creative instincts helped define hits for herself and some of musicâs biggest stars. From vulnerable ballads to powerhouse anthems, Perryâs songwriting has left an unmistakable mark on generations of artists and listeners alike.
Perryâs latest LP, Let It Die Here, a collection of 17 songs, is her first solo album in more than 25 years. The deeply personal and sonically rich project finds the acclaimed songwriter reflecting on heartbreak, healing, and self-discovery with the same raw honesty that has long defined her work.
Additionally, the songwriter will be honored with the Special International Award at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards. The Ivors are the most prestigious peer-judged songwriting awards, recognizing excellence in the field.
However, Perry sees herself less as an iconic songwriter and more akin to a âchannelâ that allows words and music to flow. In an interview with Parade Magazine, the songwriter discussed her craft, her response to being called a legend, and the full-circle moment shared with her child, Rhodes.
Parade DailyđŹ SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox đŹÂ
Ivor AwardsPerryâs Ivors recognition is just one chapter in a career that has unfolded organically through decades of fearless creativity and emotional honesty. Rather than forcing the songwriting process, she says she simply âhearsâ a song and writes it âbecause itâs there for me to write. Iâm more like a channel.â
âYou know, I don't sit here and think I'm the greatest songwriter and I'm putting together these poetic statements. It's like, I've had a big life. I am constantly in a struggle of some sort. I come from that background, and so my words might be a little deeper, they might be a little more honest, but that's all I know. I don't write about things I don't know.â
Perry continued, âI'm not intentionally trying to do anything. I'm just going with the flow. And if there's a song to be written, it shows up, and I write it.â
âI don't walk into my studio and go, 'Okay, today I'm going to write a song.' It's like, either I am, or I'm not. I'm, I'm always in my flow.â She calls herself âvery creative, because I remain open to any, any of the possibilities.âÂ
This constant creative flow led to the creation of a documentary, Let It Die Here. Subsequently, the film led to an LP of the same name.
Perry admitted, âI didn't make a plan that said, Okay, at 61 years old. I'm going to release an album. That'd be, like, the last thing I would do, but it obviously was meant to be, and I'm just going with the flow. That's the way I live, that's the way I always have. I do things very intentionally, but without premeditated thoughts.â
Perry has written some of the most iconic songs of the past four decades, including 4 Non Blondes' âWhatâs Up?â as well as songs for Christina Aguilera (âBeautiful"), P!nk (âGet the Party Startedâ), Gwen Stefani (âWhat Are You Waiting Forâ), and Alicia Keys (âSuperwomanâ). However, when questioned if she understood the importance of her songwriting to others, she grew silent before answering.
âI don't, and maybe I wish I knew a little bit more, but I don't. But part of me not really knowing that and living in that space is kind of what continues to drive me. Maybe, if I knew too much, maybe I would change; maybe I'd be a little more cocky about, like, being a songwriter. I just don't want to be that. So I want to try to remain as true and my authentic self without all the noise getting in my way and distracting me and navigating me in a place I don't want to be.â
In 2026, Perry revisited one of her most beloved compositions, âBeautiful,â recording the song for the first time since Aguileraâs 2002 version topped the charts. She told Parade that âit was a full circle moment.âÂ
âIt felt like part of my story,â Perry admitted. âIt wasnât planned. I think I recorded it in less than an hour.â
But recording the heartbreaking song wasnât enough. Perry wanted to make a music video because "it made sense" due to its familiarity with listeners.
She asked her ex-wife, The Conners star Sara Gilbert, to direct the project. Once she agreed, she expressed her desire for their child, Rhodes, to star in it.
â[Sara] wanted to tell me what the synopsis was. I'm like, I don't care, we'll make the video you want to make. Tell me when I'm supposed to be there, tell me what you want me to wear, and tell me what you want me to do. But other than that, it's your video. Make the video you want to make. And she made that video, she edited it. I had no say in it. I didn't want any say in it. And she did a phenomenal job.â
Additionally, Perry expressed her pride in Rhodesâ performance. âI was so proud of Rhodes, and really just stepped up on that stage and that platform so naturally. And Sara just did an amazing job with the direction and the visual and the editing and the storyline, the costumes, everything; like she killed it.â
The video for âBeautifulâ is currently nominated at the Tribeca Film Festival in the music video category.
The 71st Ivor Novello Awards are set to celebrate excellence at Londonâs Grosvenor House on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Linda Perryâs latest LP, Let It Die Here, was released May 8. A documentary of the same name is set for theatrical release throughout May and in London on June 21.
Riley Keough Breaks Cannes Fashion Rules With Daring Sheer Dress
Riley Keough may have just delivered the Cannes Film Festivalâs boldest fashion moment this year.
The actress turned heads on Thursday, May 14, while attending the premiere of Histoires ParallĂšles (Parallel Tales) at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, stepping onto the red carpet in a sheer blush ensemble that appeared to push directly against the festivalâs new dress code rules.
Keoug, 36, wore a flowing two-piece which featured a loose button-up top and matching skirt with embellished detailing. The semi-transparent fabric revealed her lingerie underneath, which goes against Cannesâ strict stance on ânaked dressing.â
Last year, festival organizers made their red carpet expectations far more explicit, officially prohibiting nudity and overly voluminous gowns.Â

âThis year, the Cannes Film Festival has made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect,â the festival said in a statement. âThe aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law.â
The updated guidelines specifically note that ânudity is prohibited on the red carpetâ and that oversized outfits with dramatic trains are discouraged due to crowd flow and theater seating concerns.
Still, Keoughâs look managed to land in a sweet spotâtechnically covered, but daring enough to get noticed.
And she wasnât the only star making style headlines at Cannes this week, either. Demi Moore embraced a more playful style while appearing at the festivalâs opening press conference on May 12. The 63-year-old actress wore a strapless white gown covered in yellow, blue, and red polka dots, which she paired with dramatic white cat-eye sunglasses and matching heels.Â
Meanwhile, Jane Fonda delivered a masterclass in classic Cannes glamour. The 88-year-old actress arrived at the opening ceremony that same day in a sparkling long-sleeved black gown covered in sequins, accessorizing with a white gold necklace featuring a massive aquamarine stone with plenty of diamonds. She styled her gray hair in voluminous curls, looking timeless as ever.

Controversial Singer-Actress Claudine Longet Dead at 84
Claudine Longet, the French singer and actress who remains tied to the fatal shooting of her Olympian boyfriend Spider Sabrich, has died at the age of 84, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
The singer's death was reported this past Thursday by her nephew, Bryan Longet. As of yet, it's not clear what Longet's cause of death was attributed to.
Born in Paris, France on January 29, 1942, Longet managed to come into her element by the mid 1960s. While famously married to TV personality Andy Williams, Longet also became a well-known singer, allowing her to transition to a successful career in mainstream film.
Among other accomplishments, the artist starred alongside comedy legend Peter Sellers in 1968's The Party, combining her musical talents with her on-screen acting in a memorable rendition of the song, "Nothing to Lose."
Following her divorce from Williams in 1975, Longet began dating accomplished Olympic skier Spider Sabich. While living in his Starwood, Colorado residence, she wound up shooting Sabich in the abdomen with a .22-caliber gun purchased by the athlete's father. In her defense, Longet said the gun accidentally fired as Sabich instructed her how to use it.
Accompanying the severely wounded Sabich to the hospital in an ambulance, Longet was beside the skier when he died as a result of his wounds. At the time of his death, he was just 31-years-old.
Due to the nature of the athlete's death, Longet was charged with reckless manslaughter, thrusting her into a high-profile legal case that could have cost her 10 years in prison.
During the Aspen trial, her ex-husband Williams provided both emotional and legal support, accompanying her to the courtroom and testifying on her behalf.
Due to several logistical challenges (including mishandled evidence and an illegally performed search), the jury eventually found Longet guilty of criminally negligent homicide in January 1977. For this, she was sentenced with two years' probation, fined $250 and made to serve 30 days in jail.
Following the case, Sabich's surviving family filed a civil suit against Longet for $1.3 million. The case was later settled out of court. Following this, Longet retreated from the public spotlight, never releasing another album or starring in another TV show or film throughout the remainder of her life.
