Brandy on Moesha, Motherhood and Her New Memoir (Exclusive)
For a hot second, Brandy planned to join that recent "What were you like in the '90s?" celebrity viral trend. "I was going to hop on it," she says, "but I got busy."
Now in her exclusive Parade cover story interview, she’s ready to share her answer: "I was free. I was fearless. I was fun, exciting and funny. I was just ready for everything."
The onetime teen queen accomplished everything, too. But even amid some of the most exciting moments of her music and screen career, she struggled on the inside. In her compelling new book, Phases: A Memoir (released March 31), Brandy shares what it was really like to be, to quote the title of her big 1998 hit, on top of the world.
"Growing up in the industry was really tough," she says. "So much of my story was told from the media. Now I can tell my own story. I was really inspired to just give my young self a voice and to heal some of the things I’ve been through."
That means unapologetically and unequivocally going there. About the dangerous things she did to her body to lose weight. About self-esteem issues stemming from a teacher who once criticized her appearance. About a misguided young romance with Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, nearly six years her senior. About the good-girl persona bestowed on her.
Brandy, 47, admits that going on the record wasn’t easy—she even writes in the prologue that she’s afraid that people will be "disappointed" by her putting her experiences into words. "I don’t know if everyone is going to be comfortable with me telling my truth," Brandy says. But ultimately, "It’s something I needed to do."
And Brandy Norwood’s story is indeed a page-turner. Consider: Before she was even in high school, the Mississippi-born, L.A.-reared choir director’s daughter was impressing music industry executives with her strong, multi-octave vocals. She landed her first hit, "I Wanna Be Down" at a mere 15 years old, followed by the likes of "Baby" and "Sittin’ Up in My Room." She then co-wrote and sang on the irresistible duet "The Boy Is Mine" with Monica, which stayed at No. 1 on the pop charts for 13 consecutive weeks during the summer of 1998 and earned her a Grammy award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
Brandy: 'Whitney Houston Took Me Under Her Wing' — Monica Drama, Moesha & Kobe's Prom (5:55)A true charismatic performer, Brandy has also shined as an actress. Starting at 16, she starred as the titular heroine in the 1996-2001 UPN sitcomMoesha. And with the iconic 1997 version of Cinderella, she became Disney’s first Black live-action princess — and had the chance to work alongside her mentor and idol, Whitney Houston. "Cinderella was life changing," she says. "And it’s definitely one of things that fans want to talk to me about."
These days, Brandy is writing and working on new music and will headline the Essence Festival in July. Her daughter Sy’Rai (with producer Robert Smith) is 23 and following in her musical path. Otherwise, "My life is a little bit boring!"
Zooming from her home in Los Angeles, a beaming Brandy opens up to Parade.
Parade: We’re speaking less than a week before the release of Phases. How are you feeling about the impending birth of your new baby?
Brandy: I feel brave. I feel strong. I feel purposeful. I do feel a little exposed and vulnerable, but it's from a good and honest place. Hopefully the book can touch and heal other people, and people can be inspired from it.
Which phase was the most fun to revisit?
My childhood and going back to Mississippi, which is my home. It's where I learned gratitude. It's where I got a chance to hang out with my brother [Ray J] and with my grandparents and my aunt. It was fun to revisit what my dad [Willie Norwood] taught me about my voice during that time.

But because you got famous so young, your childhood was essentially cut short.
Yeah, I didn’t have much of a childhood. But my dreams were coming true, so I’m not in any way complaining. I also had another childhood by playing Moesha.

You have a love-hate relationship with Moesha, no?
She and I were very different, and a lot of the choices that she made I don't think I would have made. At times I felt like just her identity robbed me of my own identity because I was just getting to know who I was. But I got a chance to play a beautiful Black woman with braids in her hair. It was a great representation of my culture.
What was life really like for you when you were churning hits and starring in a popular sitcom? What don’t fans understand?
Again, my dreams were coming true. Everything that I wanted for myself was happening. But I didn't know that the pressures and the scrutiny would take such a toll on me at a very young age. It's a lot for anybody, but especially a teenager, especially a child. But I was able to navigate it, and I had great parents. They helped me get through a lot of things.
What kind of pressure, specifically?
The pressure to always do the right thing, to not even make a mistake. So I just felt the pressure to be perfect. And it's impossible to be perfect. But a lot of the characters I was playing had a level of perfection. Cinderella is a perfect princess. Moesha was a young girl, but she had to have straight As and had to be the smartest one. I was judged harshly because of the perfect image that I was trying to uphold.
So then which phase of your life was the most challenging to write about?
I don't want to get too deep. I really want people to get the book and read it and experience it.
Phases is available now, wherever books are sold.Mahogany Books
Is it fair to say that detailing some of your relationships was difficult?
Yeah, they were very difficult. Yes, I mean, my relationship with love was very complicated. And I'm happy that I now have the self-love that I need in my life.
Had you ever publicly divulged what happened with Wanya?
I've spoken to it here and there, but not as deep as I go in the book. But it was very therapeutic for me. Yeah, it was very healing.
You were Kobe Bryant’s date to his high-school prom, but you don’t write about it. Why not?
I was hesitant to speak about Kobe because he's passed away. I wasn't sure if that was appropriate or not. You know, Kobe was such a special soul. I had a beautiful chance to meet him, go to the prom with him, work with him on Moesha, and just admire him from afar. We just had a great time that night just being amongst regular teenagers.

You didn’t even go to your own prom, right?
No, because I wasn’t in regular school at the time. So when I met Kobe, I just was like, “Oh, my god, I would love to go!” I never would have gotten the experience if he hadn’t asked me.
You also clear up a lot about your onetime rivalry with Monica. There actually was some tension between the two of you for a bit.
There was tension. But we were young. And it's also that thing where there were two different labels and different teams.
Well, she did name her album The Boy Is Mine.
I don’t want to put it on her; it was her label. But it rubbed me the wrong way. It just felt like everybody was competitive at that time. But it all worked out. For me, it was really about how amazing the song was, and how Monica and I were able to come together and do something that big. And then 27 years later, we went on this huge tour together. We were able to capitalize on what we did in 1998 in 2025.
Working with Whitney Houston on Cinderella was such an integral part of your career . . .
I spent my whole childhood dreaming of being a star and also dreaming of meeting Whitney Houston. But never did I ever imagine that I would sing with her, act with her, hang out with her. That's different. She was so encouraging and just a down-to-earth human being.
Brandy starred alongside Whitney Houston in 1997's Cinderella.Walt Disney Television
You describe your heart-to-heart with Whitney just before she died in 2012. Do you replay that last conversation a lot?
I try not to go back to it often because it's really a painful memory for me. But I'm so blessed that I was able to speak to her and get everything off of my chest to tell her how I felt about her because I hadn't spoken to her in a long time.
You also came up just before Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Did you interact with them or advise them at all when they started out?
Britney came to one of my Never Say Never concerts, and she was so nice. She sat in the front row, and she just had a great time. Britney has always shown love. I've met Christina Aguilera. She was always nice and supportive. I always felt like I was an inspiration in some sort of way to her.
It’s pretty crazy that you were an elder stateswoman at 18.
I was what?!
So how did you pivot to adulthood?
Motherhood really pushed me into adulthood and gave me a deeper sense of purpose in my life. When I became a mom at 23 is when I felt just a different level of responsibility. It changed my perspective on life. It grounded me, softened me and just made me more self- aware.
Related: From Moesha to 'The Boy Is Mine,' Here’s How Brandy Earned Her Net Worth (2026)
Was it intimidating being a young mom?
You know, my daughter just brought so much joy and just energy to my life. She gave me so much purpose, and my focus wasn't so much about my career and all of the things that I had to do on that end—it was really about balancing and focusing on her and just giving her an amazing, unconditional, loving experience in her life.
It's in the genes! Brandy's 23-year-old daughter Sy'Rai is also an actress and musician.Photo by JC Olivera on Getty Images
How did you feel when she told you she wanted to become a musician? Any hesitancy?
Of course! My daughter wanted to do music at 15. I was like, "No, you're going to have a regular childhood. Normalcy is going to be a part of your life, and when you get a little bit older, then we can tackle it." And then when she started, I told her to just be authentically her and to follow her gut about her music. Music should be about touching people.
Will you list five songs on your playlist right now?
You really want to know? Let me show you: It’s "Binaural Beats," "Subconscious Expansion," Alpha Brain Waves . . . "
What are these songs?!
I love classical meditation music on the Calm app. It’s my favorite music to listen to. I know that's kind of weird. I know you wanted me to say, like, Kendrick Lamar.
Which song of yours will you proudly listen to?
It's a song called "Borderline" from 2020. It’s so complex and the lyrics are from the heart, and I wrote it. I absolutely love it.
So you’re in a calm place in your life now.
You know what, my 40s have been cool. I’m 47 and still creating. I play World of Warcraft in my spare time. I hang out with my mom and my daughter in my spare time. I want her to come home, but she's doing her thing!
And how is Ray J doing?
There is distance right now. There are a few things that he's been doing in the public eye that I don't condone, and I just feel like loving him from afar right now is best for me and my peace. But my life with Ray and my connection with him is all throughout the book, and my love for him never wavers.

What’s your favorite physical reminder of your success? The Grammy?
Yeah, the Seventeen cover [from April 1995]. I don't really have the words for what that cover means to me. I was so proud of it.
Honestly, do you have any regrets?
I wouldn't change anything. Or else I wouldn't be the woman I am today. I wouldn't be able to give back to my daughter and to show her and guide her and teach her things that I wasn't aware of at her age. I’m grateful for it all.

These unassuming flowers have stuck around for literal ages. Talia Boone of Postal Petals shares that they date back to ancient Egypt when they were grown for herbal remedies.
The daisy even earned a cameo in Roman mythology as a shape-shifting nymph.
“A god called Vertumne was courting [a nymph named Belides], but she wasn't into him,” says Boone. “There was no ‘swipe left’ option in those times, so Belides escaped Vertumne's unwanted advances by morphing into a daisy!”

Caring for daisies is super easy. Just trim the stems, remove any leaves below the water line, and keep them in a cool spot out of direct sunlight, refreshing the vase water daily.
Boone says that with proper care, you can make a daisy bouquet last over a week. Not too shabby for such easygoing blooms!

Sweet peas symbolize gratefulness and make an excellent "thank you" bouquet. "If you want to express gratitude or friendship, an arrangement of sweet peas is the way to go," shares Boone.
Their delicate blossoms and pleasant fragrance make sweet peas a thoughtful way to convey appreciation to someone special. The flower can also represent a blissful departure and farewell when given as a parting gift.

According to Boone, we likely have 17th-century Sicilian monk Franciscus Cupani to thank for sweet peas' popularity across Europe. He shared the original purple flowering vines far and wide for breeding into a rainbow of new hues.
Today, an arrangement of sweet peas conveys heartfelt gratitude and warm friendship like no other. And really, what better way to say "Thanks for being awesome" than with fragrant armloads of prettily perfumed blooms?

Meryl Streep Turns Heads With Kind Gesture at ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Event
Meryl Streep is stealing the spotlight at The Devil Wears Prada event in Mexico City.
Alongside co-star Anne Hathaway, the duo kicked off the press tour, which quickly turned into a fashion showcase, flaunting their striking ensembles.
The 43-year-old actress stunned in a head-to-toe Schiaparelli look, wearing a black dress from the Fall/Winter 2025 ready-to-wear collection, complete with a fringe-detailed hem and the designer’s signature bold gold accents.
As for the award-winning actress, Streep gave fans a glimpse of her character, donning a fiery red tailored Dolce & Gabbana suit reminiscent of her iconic character Miranda Priestly.
However, it wasn't the lead stars’ presence that truly captured the hearts of the crowd and the internet, but rather the 76-year-old actress’ response to the staff that left a lasting impression.

TSA Just Found a Live 25mm Explosive Inside a Marine’s Checked Bag at This Major U.S. Airport
There are airport delays, and then there are moments that completely reset how you think about flying. That is exactly what happened at Palm Springs International Airport, where the Transportation Security Administration uncovered something far more serious than an oversized shampoo bottle. Inside a checked bag belonging to a U.S. Marine was a live 25 mm explosive round.
The discovery was made during routine baggage screening on March 30, 2026, according to law enforcement. Let that sink in: A live explosive made it all the way to an airport screening system. It is both unsettling and oddly reassuring, because it shows the system worked exactly when it needed to.
What Actually Happened at the AirportAccording to police and multiple verified reports, TSA officers flagged the Marine’s checked bag during standard screening procedures. Inside, they found the 25 mm round.
The Marine told investigators he had found the object “in the field” about a year earlier and kept it, believing it was not live.
But there was a critical complication. Officials said the round was heavily deteriorated.
“Due to extensive rust and corrosion, the round’s original identifying paint markings were no longer visible…” That corrosion made it difficult to determine whether the object was a harmless training munition or a real explosive. So authorities escalated quickly.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal team used X-ray technology to assess the device. They confirmed it was live. The round was then transported away from the airport and destroyed in a remote desert area near Interstate 10. No one was injured.
Related: Are ICE Agents Replacing the TSA? Here's What We Know
Who the Marine Is and What Comes NextAuthorities later identified the Marine as a 30-year-old from Texas. After being detained, he was released to military authorities, but the situation is far from over. The case has been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for potential criminal review.
He may also face administrative action from the U.S. Marine Corps and civil penalties from the TSA.
In California, possession of certain explosive devices can violate state law, including statutes governing destructive devices. What stands out is that intent may not matter as much as travelers assume. Even if the Marine believed the round was inert, transporting it through an airport triggered a serious law enforcement response.
Airport security regularly intercepts prohibited items, but a live explosive of this size is rare.
A 25 mm round is not something that fits the typical profile of accidental packing. It is military-grade ordnance. The fact that corrosion masked its identity makes the situation even more complex.
From a traveler’s perspective, this story highlights something easy to overlook. Airport security is not just looking for obvious threats. It is built to detect ambiguity. If something cannot be clearly identified, it is treated as dangerous until proven otherwise.
And in this case, that caution was justified.

Travel is built on trust. Trust that systems are in place, that people follow rules, and that risks are minimized before they ever reach the runway. This incident could have gone very differently. Instead, it became a case study in how layered security works.
It is also a reminder that even highly trained individuals can make mistakes, especially when assumptions replace verification.
William Shatner's Wild New Project Is Straight Out of a 'Star Trek' Episode
William Shatner wants you to hang sound on your wall.
The Captain Kirk legend just turned 95, announced a heavy metal album featuring Rob Halford and Zakk Wylde, and somehow still found time to help transform the Star Trek theme song into a limited-edition piece of collectible artwork. The man does not stop.
The project comes from Soundwaves Art Foundation, a Texas-based nonprofit that converts song sound waves into bold visual pieces. Founded by British-born artist Tim Wakefield, the organization has collaborated with more than 500 musicians, from Paul McCartney to Billie Eilish, raising over $15 million for charity through limited-edition signed prints.
For this release, Wakefield designed the artwork to represent the journey of the USS Enterprise through the solar system, rendered from the actual audio waveform of the Star Trek theme. The result is a 24-by-24-inch abstract piece printed on crystalline canvas, all rippling curves and sweeping lines that only make sense once you know what you're looking at.
View this post on InstagramShatner hand-signed each print in California in March 2026. The edition is limited to 75 numbered copies, and all profits go to his own Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which supports local and national children's and veterans' charities. The #1 print, which came framed, has already sold out. Unframed prints are available at $700 and framed at $900, each shipped with a certificate of authenticity.
The timing is also notable for the franchise itself. Star Trek reaches its 60th anniversary on September 8, 2026, marking six decades since the original series premiered. Shatner has been active in the celebrations, appearing at MegaCon Orlando in March alongside Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, and Walter Koenig.

Meanwhile, the art project is just one thread of a genuinely busy season for Shatner. At 95, he is also deep in production on a star-studded heavy metal album, having enlisted Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford to join him on a reimagined version of 'You've Got Another Thing Comin'." Other confirmed contributors include Zakk Wylde, Ritchie Blackmore, and Henry Rollins, with the album covering tracks by Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest alongside original material. The record will be released via Cleopatra Records, though no release date has been confirmed.
Back to the art. For Trekkies who want something more tangible than a streaming rewatch, a sound wave print signed by Captain Kirk himself (proceeds going to kids and veterans) is a pretty hard thing to pass up.
10 Carry-On Items That Will Fix Your Overpacking Habit for Good

Packing a carry-on always sounds simple until you’re actually trying to fit everything you need into one bag. Over time, I’ve learned that the right essentials can completely change how a trip feels, helping you save space, stay organized and actually relax once you’re on your way.
As someone who has covered shopping and travel for outlets like Coveteur, Martha Stewart Weddings and Harper’s Bazaar, I’ve tested countless suitcases, organizers, beauty minis and accessories. These are the carry-on essentials I come back to every time because they maximize space, keep everything in its place and take the stress out of traveling. Even better, you can get all of these on Amazon!

A luggage scale is one of those things you don’t think you need until you’re repacking your suitcase on the airport floor. This one is compact, easy to use and takes the guesswork out of staying under weight limits, especially on the way home or if you end up checking an extra bag. It takes up virtually no space but is always worth having on hand.
If you’re trying to maximize space, these are a game-changer. They compress bulkier items like sweaters or workout sets down to a fraction of their size, and the mini pump makes them easy to use. I like to keep one or two bags empty in case I pick up anything on my trip and need the extra room.
This compact umbrella is small enough to fit in any bag but sturdy enough to withstand unexpected showers. I always keep a compact umbrella like this with me because getting caught in the rain while traveling is never ideal and hotels don’t always have extras. And when they do, they’re usually oversized and not easy to carry around.
These individually packaged wipes are key for travel because they're gentle, effective at removing makeup and grime and instantly make you feel more put-together. You can throw them in your purse, carry-on or personal item and end up using them more often than you think. They’re especially great when you’re on the go and need a quick refresh.

An underrated essential for flights and winding down at your destination. These gently warm up to help relieve dry eyes, especially after long hours of screen time or cabin air. I also find them helpful when trying to fall asleep; they’re calming and make it easier to fully relax.
This cord-organization bag helps keep all your cords, chargers, and smaller tech items in one place, so you’re not juggling multiple pouches or digging through your bag mid-flight. It’s structured, compact and makes staying organized feel effortless.
This slim portable battery lasts a long time and can charge multiple devices at once, which is key when you’re traveling. I love that it has built-in cables so you don’t have to pack extras cords and it takes up more space in your bag.

I love this neck pillow because it takes up barely any space and is easy to pack. It’s much more supportive than traditional styles and actually helps you rest comfortably for a few hours on longer flights.
If you travel with hair styling hot tools, this keeps everything secure and organized. You can pack your tools without worrying about messy cords and this rolls out into a heat-resistant mat so you can style your hair without damaging counters.

Queen Elizabeth Reportedly Didn’t Hold Back Her Feelings About Prince Harry’s Royal Exit: Expert
Queen Elizabeth was reportedly upset about Prince Harry's decision to exit his role as a senior royal in 2020.
According to royal expert Hugo Vickers, author of the book Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History, the monarch opened up in a rare moment about her grandson's life-changing decision.
Vickers appeared on the YouTube channel Palace Confidential, where he revealed what he says the monarch told him privately. He reportedly met the queen over 40 times throughout his career.
"Well, I do remember what the queen said at one point was, you know, one I'm not sure she's used these exact words, but basically, you know, sort of, 'One minute he's captain general of the Royal Marines and the next minute he's just a childminder,'" Vickers claimed.

Vickers added that the queen believed that her grandson was "doing a good job before he left." Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal roles in March 2020, moving to California with their son, Prince Archie. They later welcomed a daughter, Princess Lilibet.
The royal author believes that Harry, along with his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, caused the queen "a lot of anguish" in the last years of her life. "It's one thing I will never forgive the Sussex's for is the amount of stress they caused the queen."

Vickers concluded that it would be difficult to "work out what's going on in [Harry's] head. As far as I can see, he wasn't that unhappy until his wife [Meghan] came around and told him he was unhappy. That's my reading of it, but that may be unfair."

Miller showed up at the premiere for Apple TV’s Friends and Neighbors looking like the main character she is. She wasn't there to hide. She was there to work. She posted a clip of herself interviewing the cast with a caption that was a heat-seeking missile aimed directly at her former inner circle.
“If you can’t trust your Friends & Neighbors, who can you trust? Season 2 premieres Friday on @appletv #AppleTVPartner,” she wrote. It’s a paid partnership that doubles as a side-eye. Because if you’ve followed the Hamptons drama for five minutes, you know that trust is a rare currency in that house. Seeing Batula go public with Wilson is a move that nobody, especially Miller, saw coming.
View this post on InstagramThe comment section didn't read the room; they burned it down. Within minutes, the post was a war zone of support for Miller, and the vitriol for the new couple was loud. “Girl we’ve always been Team Ciara, we ride at dawn!!!,” wrote one fan.
Another follower went even harder, writing, “Honey you got more talent, grace, beauty, smarts and integrity in one finger than both those buffoons put together!!!” “When they go low, C goes high,” agreed another.
Reality TV is built on these kinds of betrayals. Batula and Miller were the fan favorites of Summer House. Seeing a friend date an ex is a violation of the girl code.
Miller isn't playing the victim. She’s leaning into the professional pivot and her brand is stronger than ever. If Batula and Wilson expected Ciara’s silence, they haven't been paying attention to how Miller operates. She doesn't need to yell when the caption does all the heavy lifting. The next episode of Summer House can't come soon enough. Because everyone’s watching now.

Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni Caught in Something They Can’t Escape: Exclusive
As the focus around the Nancy Guthrie tragedy continues to grow, Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni are facing more than just personal grief. With limited answers and increasing public attention, Dr. Jenny Shields explains that a familiar pattern is beginning to take shape—one that can add a new layer of strain for families already navigating loss.
During Savannah Guthrie's interview with Hoda Kotb that aired on Today, she discussed the emotional toll having the public speculate about her sister and brother-in-law has been especially hard.
Parade reached out to Shields, licensed psychologist, certified healthcare ethics consultant, and founder of Shields Psychology & Consulting, PLLC in The Woodlands, Texas, to discuss the aforementioned emotional toll and how Annie and her husband might be navigating this situation, given the public scrutiny and blame.
Why Do People Look for Someone to Blame in the Middle of Tragedy?"When something terrible feels random, people instinctively search for a reason," Shields says. "If they can point to a mistake, a lapse, or a person to blame, they get to feel that the world is still orderly and predictable. Psychologically, blame often works as a form of self-protection. It helps the observer create distance from the terrifying thought that this kind of tragedy could happen to anyone."
"Blame is often just a thin veil for fear. When a tragedy feels random, the mind demands a reason. By identifying a 'mistake' or a 'lapse' in the family, the public restores a sense of order. We tell ourselves, 'As long as I don't make their mistake, I am safe.' It is a tool for self-reassurance, but it comes at a devastating cost to the family left behind," she continues.
“The human brain abhors a vacuum. When there are no facts to fill the void of a disappearance, the public mind will inevitably fill it with a narrative of suspicion. We would rather have a 'guilty party' than accept the terrifying reality of a random, senseless tragedy.”
Annie and Tommaso Aren’t Just Grieving—They’re Grieving Under Scrutiny"For Annie and Tommaso, the public dimension changes grief completely. Grief normally requires vulnerability. It requires room to be disoriented, inconsistent, numb, angry, or quiet. Public scrutiny does the opposite. It keeps the nervous system on high alert," Shields tells Parade.
"When every expression, every silence, and every decision is being interpreted, the bereaved are forced to manage two realities at once: the private pain of loss and the public pressure to appear as though they are grieving in the 'right' way. You cannot fully process a tragedy when part of you is still bracing to defend yourself from it," she adds.
Public Suspicion Can Become a Second Trauma"The search for 'why' can deepen the harm for the people closest to the tragedy. A family already living through fear, heartbreak, and uncertainty can end up carrying a second burden: the pressure to defend themselves inside a story the public keeps trying to simplify before the facts are clear," Shields explains.
"That is what makes this kind of grief so psychologically exhausting. The pain is not only the original loss. It is also the experience of having your worst moment watched, interpreted, and turned into something other people feel entitled to explain," Shields continues.
"When we rush to find a villain, we can inadvertently create a 'second injury.' A false accusation might give observers a temporary sense of control, but it does not create justice. It only isolates the family at the very moment they need the most support," she adds.

April Birthstones: Learn the Meaning, Color, History
When the first blossoms unfurl and spring's renewal is in full swing, those born in April have one traditional birthstone option, as well as an alternative gem option to mark the occasion—the ever-dazzling diamond and the deeply rich sapphire. Though distinctly different in hue, these regal gemstones share a rarity and magnificence befitting the month's spirit of rejuvenation.
Will you choose the eternal sparkle of a diamond to represent your birthday month? Or will the mystical allure of a sapphire speak to your soul? These questions have no wrong answer, as both April birthstones have an undeniable appeal.
Read on to discover what makes each of these birthstones for April extraordinary—ranging from their color to their meaning and history, according to experts.

According to Matt Harris, a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, member of the American Gem Trade Association, and owner of Matt Harris Designs, "In the realm of traditional and modern birthstones for April, the diamond reigns supreme."
What Is the Alternative Birthstone for April? While the diamond takes center stage as April's official birthstone, some consider the sapphire an alternative option, particularly for those born under the sign of Taurus (April 21–May 21).

The April birthstone is actually colorless or "near colorless." Diamonds are clear, like a droplet of water. Meanwhile, the alternative April birthstone is a sapphire, which can be described as royal or midnight blue.

While ubiquitous in jewelry stores, diamonds are still considered rare gems.
"The conditions required to form a diamond are as specific as they are extreme," Harri explains. "They're geological marvels formed deep within the Earth's mantle, under intense heat and pressure. It's nature's way of saying, 'Good things come to those who wait ... a few million years.'"
"Diamonds have come to represent everlasting love," says Harris. "They are strong, resilient and shiny! As a matter of fact, they are one of the hardest materials on Earth."
Brilliant marketing campaigns like "Diamonds are a girl's best friend," popularized by Marilyn Monroe, have helped keep diamonds at the top of the list of most beloved jewels.
But diamonds also carry spiritual significance across cultures. Gemologist Sacha Jarmon, and co-founder of LOVE SARO, elaborates.
"Metaphysically, diamonds are used to amplify and enhance energies of stones around them," she says. "They are effective at cleansing both the mind and body, as well as removing negative energy and obstacles to help the wearer realize their own self-worth."

“Diamonds are found in kimberlite pipes created as a result of volcanic and tectonic activity,” shares Olivia Landau of The Clear Cut.
But as far as actual locations, Jarmon says diamonds are primarily sourced from India, as well as Russia, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Canada.
You can even try your hand at diamond mining stateside.
"Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas allows visitors to dig on their own for only $15 a day!" Harris shares.

Jarmon explains the sapphire's long history of mystical reverence.
"Kings and queens in ancient Greece and Rome believed the blue sapphires would protect them from harm and offer guidance when seeking answers," she says. "Buddhists believed that it brought spiritual enlightenment, and Hindus used it in worship practices. Each color of sapphire exhibits its own unique metaphysical properties and vibrational patterns, yet all are Stones of Wisdom."

Sapphires derive from various locales, though some sources are particularly prized.
"Our sapphires are primarily sourced from Thailand. Most sapphires are found in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and Madagascar," Jarmon notes.
The rarest and most coveted sapphires hail from Kashmir.
"Kashmir sapphires from the Himalaya Mountains are extremely rare and valuable, many of them being displayed in museums," Harris adds. "Right here in the U.S., gorgeous sapphires are being mined in Montana."
So, for those born in April, will you opt for the brilliant resilience of a diamond or the profound wisdom of a sapphire? With two such breathtaking birthstones to choose from, you can't go wrong.

Kate Middleton, Princess Diana Had to Pass the ‘Balmoral Test’ to Fit Into The Royal Family
From Princess Diana to Kate Middleton, women entering the royal family have reportedly been put through a rigorous unofficial tradition known as the “Balmoral Test,” a quiet measure of whether they truly fit in.
Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, discussed the tradition in his memoir, The Royal Insider. He described the "Balmoral Test," where senior royals use their family traditions to see if outsiders can transition into life behind palace doors.
FOX Newsshared details from Burrell's book. He wrote, "The ‘Balmoral Test’ was cruel. Outsiders, most importantly potential brides, were brought there like specimens to be inspected by the family to see if they came up to scratch and if they were suitable."
The former butler added that this type of compatibility comparison has "been this way since Queen Victoria’s day. Which is no surprise, as the castle hasn’t changed much either."

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich told FOX News that Balmoral is important to the royal family as it remains one of the most traditional elements of their private lives. Balmoral is located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and has been a place where the royals can get away from official duties and spend time together enjoying country life.

"Balmoral remains the monarch’s most private sanctuary," she explained. "It’s as remote and as private as it can be, and approval there by the family signals inner-circle status. It’s all about loyalty to the family and adaptability to their unique unwritten ways."
Fordwich added, "It’s totally country-oriented. Those who do best are those who understand rural ways, such as Kate [Middleton]. Walking even in inclement weather came naturally to her. She was instantly at home."

"Being sporty and athletic, she enjoyed nature and hiking. She still relishes it. In contrast, Meghan [Markle] reportedly took umbrage at hunting and wasn’t into any of the field sports."
As for Princess Diana, Vanity Fair reported that Burrell said, "Diana was a city girl. She disliked country pursuits: horses, shooting, mud, and particularly hunting, which she thought was barbaric. But she tried so hard to please her husband."
For those invited into the inner circle, particularly romantic partners, the "Balmoral Test" is a crash course in royal customs and unwritten rules, where even the smallest details don’t go unnoticed.

‘70s Child Star Admits He Spiraled Out of Control After Early TV Fame on ‘The Brady Bunch’
Mike Lookinland admitted he went “fully off the rails” a decade after his role on The Brady Bunch ended. The former star of the beloved ‘70s sitcom spoke out on the March 31 episode of The Real Brady Bros podcast, co-hosted by his former co-star Christopher Knight.
The actor, who played youngest son Bobby Brady on the ABC sitcom from 1969 to 1974, revealed he struggled to adapt to adulthood following his massive childhood fame, which included the hit TV series, spin-offs, and touring as a musical act.
“I lived my childhood in my 20s because I couldn't when I was a child,” Lookinland, 65, said on the podcast. “And in my 20s, I had a car and money and freedom. And I'm lucky that it got back on [track]. I was fully off the rails.”
Lookinland added that he was lucky he didn’t grow up in the age of cell phones and social media. “I'm just thankful that not every man, woman, and child had a high-def camera in their pocket when I was 25, like they do now, because it would have ruined my life,” he admitted.

Mike Lookinland previously opened up about his strugglesLookinland was only eight years old when The Brady Bunch debuted in 1969. After the beloved sitcom ended its five-season run, the young star continued auditioning and acting, appearing in the 1974 blockbuster film The Towering Inferno and a 1977 episode of Little House on the Prairie. Several Brady Bunch spinoffs and TV movies also kept him busy.
But by the time he hit his 20s, the former child star struggled to live a life outside of the spotlight. While he married his college sweetheart in 1987, Lookinland also developed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
During an appearance on Oprah: Where Are They Now?, he explained, “To have that much fame when you're really young, it certainly affects you.”
“The problem for me was, I lived my childhood in my 20s," he explained. “You should really try to live your childhood when you’re a child, because if you do it when you’re 26, it can be dangerous."
"I loved alcohol,” he said. “First time I had a drink, oh boy, I thought it was the greatest thing in the world. When it became clear that the choice wasn’t between sobering up or drinking, but the choice was actually between living or dying, then it became a simple choice for me," the actor added of his decision to get sober.

Lookinland hit rock bottom in 1997 when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Salt Lake City, Utah. A report shared by the Deseret News at the time revealed that the former Brady Bunch star rolled his 1990 Bronco on a highway.
At the time, Lookinland, who was a cameraman on the set of the CBS drama series Promised Land, was clocked at three times the legal alcohol limit and booked at a local jail. The outlet reported that “fellow jailers whistled the theme song from the Brady Bunch television show in the background” as Lookinland was booked and released on bail.
On the Real Brady Bros, Lookinland noted that what happens in Utah usually stays in Utah, but the incident prompted him to get help, and he’s been sober ever since.
Hungry Howie's Rolls Out a Bold New Crust Flavor That Could Spark the Next Big Pizza Debate
Few food debates are as enduring—or as oddly passionate—as the one over pineapple on pizza. For some, the sweet, juicy bite paired with savory toppings is a stroke of genius. For others, it's nothing short of culinary chaos. The argument has fueled countless memes, late-night discussions and even strong opinions from celebrity chefs.
That same divide may be headed for a fresh chapter. A new limited-edition pizza crust flavor is stepping into the spotlight, and it's bringing both sweetness and heat along for the ride—two qualities that rarely enter the pizza conversation quietly.

Hungry Howie's New Pizza Crust Taps Into the Sweet-and-Salty Flavor CrazeHungry Howie's is testing the waters with a pineapple jalapeño crust, a bold twist on its signature flavored crust lineup. Instead of simply adding toppings, the chain is baking the flavor directly into the crust, meaning every bite—from the first slice to the often-neglected edge—delivers a mix of tropical sweetness and a spicy kick.
The idea feels almost designed to stir the pot. Pineapple alone has long been a lightning rod, but pairing it with jalapeño takes things into even more adventurous territory. It's the kind of flavor combination that makes some people immediately curious—and others skeptical.
Fans of sweet and spicy foods, however, might see this as a natural evolution. After all, the balance of sugar and heat has worked wonders in everything from barbecue sauces to trendy hot honey drizzles. Translating that balance into a pizza crust could be a clever way to win over skeptics who might not normally order pineapple as a topping but are willing to experiment in smaller doses.

This New Crust Will Likely Tap Into The Great Pineapple on Pizza DebateOf course, not everyone will be convinced. Pizza purists—those who believe crust should simply be a vessel for cheese and sauce—may see this as unnecessary tinkering. And those firmly in the "no pineapple ever" camp are unlikely to be swayed, no matter how inventive the presentation.
Still, limited-time offerings thrive on curiosity, and this one has that in abundance. Whether it becomes a fan favorite or just another fleeting experiment, the pineapple jalapeño crust is almost guaranteed to get people talking. If it intrigues you at all, you may want to give it a try between now and June 28 in case it disappears forever.
And in the end, the great pineapple debate isn't really about being right or wrong. It's about trying something new, arguing about it with friends and maybe—just maybe—discovering a flavor you didn't expect to love.

Should you want to hide away whatever it is you're organizing, each cubby slot is large enough to hold a standard 11-inch-square collapsible storage bin that can be used like drawers. You can even add these cubes to a freestanding portable closet for extra organization. If you only need them for temporary storage, the cubes have a collapsible design that makes them easy to tuck away when they’re not in use.
"Practical and sturdy," these "spacious" cubes provide ample storage space for all sorts of items. Shoppers described using them inside closets to store clothing, in their children's rooms to organize toys, as storage for books and crafts in offices and living rooms, and in entryways to hold shoes. One raved, "These shelves saved my cluttered closet!"

JetBlue Just Launched a First-of-Its-Kind Monthly Subscription
If you’ve ever wished you could pay a flat fee to make the "nickel and diming" of air travel disappear, JetBlue is listening. In a first-of-its-kind move for a U.S. carrier, the airline just launched TrueBlue Subscriptions, a service called "Points on Repeat" that functions like Amazon Prime for the sky. It’s designed for the traveler who wants to stop reaching for their credit card at the airport and start automating their future vacations.
You can choose from three specific tiers based on how often you’re actually in the air.

The Three Tiers: From Casual Flier to Commuter- The Points Traveler ($13/month or $144/year): This is the entry-level "savings account" for travel. You get 1,000 points deposited into your account every month. If you fly once or twice a year to see family, this ensures you always have a small stash of points ready to cover a seat upgrade or a bag fee without a second thought.
- The Points Adventurer ($32.50/month or $360/year): This is the sweet spot for the quarterly traveler. You get 2,000 points a month, but the real win is the 2x Flight Accelerator. Every time you book a flight with cash, you earn twice the normal points. If you’re heading from Boston to Miami every few months for a cruise or to see in laws, for example, this tier effectively cuts the "wait time" for your next free flight in half.
- The Points Trailblazer ($67.75/month or $750/year): For the true frequent flier, this is the definitive "Smart Splurge." You get 2,500 points monthly and a 3x Flight Accelerator, but the secret weapon is the 10% Redemption Rebate. Every single time you use points for a flight or a fee, JetBlue puts 10% of those points right back into your account. (Pro tip: If you have a JetBlue Plus card, that rebate can jump to 20%).

Turning "Annoyance Fees" Into Point RedemptionsThe most practical update arriving alongside these subscriptions is the ability to use your points for the "extras" that used to be cash-only. JetBlue recently hiked checked bag fees to as much as $49 ($98 round trip) and pet fees to $150 each way. Under the new rules, you can use your "auto-saved" monthly points to cover these costs directly at the kiosk or in the app.
If you are a "Trailblazer" subscriber heading to Florida, that $150 pet fee for your dog essentially comes with a $15 rebate in points. If you find yourself paying $60 for a last-minute upgrade to EvenMore Space for that extra legroom, you’re effectively getting $6 back in travel value every time. But for those looking for a bigger win, these points are also redeemable for JetBlue Vacations packages. Since these bundles often have deep sales on flight-and-hotel combos, applying your monthly points to the hotel or car rental portion is a high-value way to stretch your travel budget.
The Bottom Line: Is It Worth It?If you use JetBlue as often as you use Netflix or Spotify, this subscription can actually put money back in your pocket. For a regular commuter, the combination of the point multiplier and the rebates can save you (or earn you back) upwards of $150 a month in total travel value. By the time your third or fourth trip of the year rolls around, you’ve likely accrued enough points through your subscription to book a totally free flight or a JetBlue Vacation.
Whether you’re looking to snag priority security for a quick weekend getaway or you just want to automate your travel budget rewards a little more, these updates represent a major pivot toward making points feel like actual currency.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Source Describes What Inside the Home Looked Like
As the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance continues, new details are emerging about the condition of the 84-year-old's home. According to a source familiar with the situation, there were no obvious signs of a struggle inside, and some rooms were described as "immaculate,” a detail that is now drawing closer scrutiny as authorities work to piece together what happened. The source spoke with NewsNation's Brian Entin, sharing new details about the case.
"This new information sort of makes sense with the big picture of what we know," Entin said on a recent NewsNation broadcast. Entin, who was in Tucson for several weeks in February and into March, has returned to the area to continue covering the case.
"There were no signs of an assault inside Nancy Guthrie's home [and that] most of the rooms were described as 'immaculate.' So, the house was very, very clean," Entin said, explaining what he'd been told by his source.
This new information comes after Savannah Guthrie's interview with Hoda Kotb, during which she said that the back doors of her mother's home had been "propped open."
Nancy has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Authorities believe that Nancy may have been abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night. The FBI released pictures and videos of a masked individual on Nancy's front stoop the night of her disappearance. That footage coupled with the blood near the front door suggested that Nancy was taken out of her home via the front door. The information about the back door of the home being open—coupled with the new information that Entin reported, is raising more questions in the case.

1971 Classic Ranked No. 1 ‘Best Album of the 70s’
The 1970s were one of music’s most explosive decades—where rock splintered into bold new forms, from prog and punk to disco and soul. Now, a new ranking from BBC Music Magazine has taken on the nearly impossible task of naming the greatest albums of the era.

Before revealing the No. 1 pick, here’s how the Top 5 shakes out:
- At No. 5 is the 1971 David Bowie album Hunky Dory, the record that helped define a new era of theatrical, shape-shifting rock.
- No. 4 goes to Joni Mitchell's Blue (1971), widely considered one of the most emotionally raw and influential singer-songwriter albums ever recorded.
- At No. 3 is Led Zeppelin IV (1971), a towering hard-rock statement that includes one of the most iconic songs in music history in "Stairway to Heaven."
- No. 2 is Blood on the Tracks (1975), a deeply personal and literate album often described as Bob Dylan’s finest work.
And at No. 1?
A 1971 album that didn’t just define the decade—it helped redefine what popular music could be.

What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye was ranked the greatest album of the 1970s, praised as “the moment pop music became high art.”
Released in May 1971, the album marked a dramatic shift for Gaye. Moving away from Motown’s traditional hit-making formula, he created a cohesive, socially conscious work that tackled issues like war, poverty and environmental destruction.

Built as a concept album with songs flowing seamlessly into one another, What’s Going On follows the perspective of a Vietnam veteran returning home to a fractured America.
The album was also a commercial powerhouse. It spent over a year on the Billboard charts and produced three Top 10 hits—“What’s Going On,” “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)” and “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)”—making Gaye the first male solo artist to achieve that feat from a single album.
More than five decades later, its message still resonates—one of the reasons it continues to top lists like this one.
In a decade packed with legendary releases, this 1971 classic didn’t just rise above the rest. It changed the conversation entirely.
