Kanye Brings Daughter North West Onstage, and Fans Have Plenty To Say About the Daddy-Daughter Duet
Kim Kardashian's followers may have noticed that her recent spring break trip to Tokyo wasn’t exactly a full family vacation. The entrepreneur/reality TV star posted plenty of pics on Instagram featuring herself and her three youngest children (Saint, Chicago, and Psalm). And while sis Chloe made an appearance, Kardashian’s eldest daughter, North West, was noticeably absent.
Yes, there are a zillion possible reasons North didn't appear in the photos. Maybe she was there and didn’t want to pose for the camera. Maybe she had school. Or maybe she was prepping for a major concert debut—with her dad, Kanye West.
The tween (she’ll turn 13 this summer) joined Ye onstage while performing at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 1. And no, this isn't a nepo baby stunt. The daughter of two ultra-famous high-profile celebs has some serious talent. And props to the 12-year-old for venturing out onto the stage of a packed arena.
At a time when most kiddos tremble at the thought of singing in front of parents at a school talent show, North had the courage and confidence to perform in front of thousands. And it looks like Ye’s fans were more than happy to hear North’s songs ‘Piercing On My Hand’ and ‘Talking.’
While plenty of positive comments poured in on social media, some weren’t exactly glowing. Along with raves such as “The show was absolutely amazing in every possible way,” and “His spitting image…twins!”, some took a different approach. One commenter wrote, on Us Weekly’sInstagram post, “Doesn’t this man have 4 kids?? Why is she the only one he's ever seen with??”
Regardless of what Ye’s fans thought, it seems like North has her own following. The budding superstar recently posted a clip of her original music on Instagram, captioning the now-viral video, “ep soon.” Commenters gushed, “This is fire,” “Keep going…I need more beats,” and, “She literally has infinite swag.”
View this post on InstagramOf course, this wasn't exactly North’s first time appearing in front of thousands of screaming fans. Back in 2024, the then-10-year-old played the role of Young Simba in The Lion King 30th Anniversary concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
Sure, it’s a very different type of performance than her most recent one. But, like her daddy-daughter duet, it also got plenty of attention. Kardashian fiercely defended her daughter against a nepo baby backlash, “As a mom, just seeing your child have so much fun and not be nervous at all, she did such a great job. And anyone who is hating on a kid is just a hater.”
1977 Hit Ranked Among Best ‘Country Rock Songs’ of All Time Became a Breakup Anthem
In 1977, The Marshall Tucker Band released a song that would go on to define both their career and the country rock genre.
Their hit, "Heard It in a Love Song," became one of the band's biggest successes, reaching the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning lasting recognition decades later. The track has since been ranked among the best country rock songs of all time by Ultimate Classic Rock, highlighting its enduring impact.
Written by lead singer Doug Gray, the song stands out for its smooth blend of country storytelling and rock instrumentation. With its laid-back groove and instantly recognizable melody, it captured the essence of the Southern rock sound that defined the era.
"Well, it was kind of strange. I put off singing that song for a year because, here I was thinking to myself, 'That’s just too simple if a song for Marshall Tucker to put out there,' with all these other complex songs that we’ve got out," Gray said in a 2018 interview.
"It finally got to the point where the record was coming out. So they said, 'OK, we got the track. You got to come put the vocal on it.' I put the vocal on it, they put the thing out, and four weeks later it was starting to chart. And everybody, all these teeny-bopper people, were there listening and singing to it." So those teeny-bopper people are now in their 40s or 50s or 60s.”"
At its core, "Heard It in a Love Song" is a breakup anthem, one that leans into emotional honesty without becoming overly dramatic. Its lyrics reflect on love, loss and the fleeting nature of relationships, delivered with a sense of quiet resignation that resonated with listeners.
Formed in the early 1970s in South Carolina, The Marshall Tucker Band became known for their fusion of rock, country and jazz influences, often incorporating flute and extended instrumental sections into their music. Songs like this helped them stand out among their Southern rock peers and build a loyal fan base.
Over time, "Heard It in a Love Song" has remained a staple of classic rock and country playlists, continuing to connect with audiences across generations.
More than four decades later, the track still holds its place as a defining country rock classic, one that captured the sound of its time while delivering a message that feels just as relevant today.

Pillsbury Fans Say New Sugar Cookie Shapes Are So ‘Cute’
Pillsbury is growing its iconic place-and-bake shape cookies with two new seasonal shapes.
Don't know which Pillsbury line we're talking about? Fair enough! The century-old company is responsible for whipping up the recipes for many incredibly popular ready-to-bake items, with several newcomers launching in just the past few weeks alone. Nothing beats its classic place-and-bake sugar cookie, which has been outfitted with seasonal shapes like its beloved Spooky Cat, pumpkins, ghosts, snowmen, Santa, hearts, baby chicks, and more niche footballs and Yoshi Eggs.
Now, its famous place-and-bake sugar cookies are scoring big with sports and pop culture fans—especially those preparing to host World Cup watch parties or head to the theaters on opening night for the new Spider-Man movie, as the company is set to debut a new soccer ball cookie and collaboration with Marvel for two limited-time drops.
Pillsbury's Unveils New Soccer and Spider-Man Sugar Cookie ShapesPillsbury quietly uploaded two new place-and-bake sugar cookie shapes to its website: the new Pillsbury Soccer Ball Sugar Cookies and Spider-Man-inspired print. That said, the exact release date of either product remains unclear, though it appears some stores may already have packs of the 20-precut cookies in stock for about $4.89 (prices may vary), per Instacart.
Given that the new Spider-Man movie makes its theatrical release on Friday, July 31, and the World Cup kicks off shortly before that, we would assume the distribution of its new cookies would ramp up and become more widely available in the coming weeks ahead of Memorial Day Weekend.

Former 'Bachelor' Producer Reveals 'Juicy' Details of Relationship with Peter Weber in New Book
Former Bachelor producer Julie LaPlaca is opening up about her rumored relationship with season 24 lead Peter Weber in her upcoming book, The Love Producer.
“I spent all my years getting people to be vulnerable and share their heart on the show,” LaPlaca told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday, Apr. 2. “And I realized I had shielded mine.”
LaPlaca first joined The Bachelor franchise as a date producer during Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette in 2014. In 2019, she started working directly with the lead for the first time for Hannah Brown's season.
“You're basically with them 24/7. You're doing all their interviews, prepping them for all their dates, and helping guide them on their entire journey,” she explained. “The storyteller side of me was really excited when I made that shift because we're really crafting a 20-hour rom-com.”

Brown's season introduced fans to Weber, who became the Bachelor after being heartbroken in third place. While Weber's season was airing, there were a number of theories on how his journey ended—including speculation that he was dating LaPlaca.
The theory took off after the pair spent New Year's Eve together, with ABC executive Rob Mills and then-Bachelor host Chris Harrison adding fuel to the fire by neither confirming nor denying the rumor.
LaPlaca finally shut down the speculation after the season ended, writing on Instagram that she and Weber "didn't kiss at midnight."
“Peter and I instantly connected,” LaPlaca told Entertainment Weekly. “He felt like an immediate best friend. My job is digging into his heart, getting him to be vulnerable—and I was doing the same. There were moments where I was like, 'Wow, I'm more open with Peter than I was with my boyfriend of five years.' There's this interesting bond that people don't see, the intimacy that the lead producers have with the people they're with. ... It got complicated and lines became blurred.”
“I will be sharing my truth that I suppressed for a while. I dealt with some shame and some fear around sharing it," she continued. "And part of my journey was working through that and allowing myself to get to a place to be fully vulnerable—like I got so many cast members to do. Every woman should own her story and own her truth. … It's very juicy and Bachelor Nation is going to love it.”
Weber's season finale went down in Bachelor franchise history after he proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss and then broke it off for a shot with runner-up Madi Prewett—much to his mother Barb Weber's dismay.
Two days after the finale aired, Weber and Prewett publicly announced their breakup. Shortly after, Weber began a relationship with one of his contestants, Kelley Flanagan, and the couple dated on and off from 2020 to 2023.
LaPlaca, for her part, left the Bachelor franchise after Matt James' season in 2021.
“Immediately after, I dealt with a lot of hurt,” LaPlaca said. “I don’t think Kelley wanted him to talk to me. That was my understanding, so we lost contact. … We had become so close. For nine months, I spent every day with him. There was a grief period there for many reasons.”
Despite not keeping in touch with Weber, LaPlaca did note that he is "not happy about the book." Regardless, she maintains a positive view of their time together.
“Peter has a bad rep, but I really adore him as a person,” she added. “I think he’s a wonderful person. He had a complicated season, but as a person, he means well and he’s a really good guy.”
The Love Producer will be available on July 7, 2026.
Next Level Chef’ Season 5: Who Went Home Tonight? (Night Six Elimination)
After a one-week hiatus, Next Level Chefreturned to FOX tonight when the Top 10 chefs faced another first-time challenge in the competition: The platform became a pub complete with beer taps!
Gordon Ramsay still had four team members remaining, while Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais each had three.
The team that delivered the best dish last episode was Team Arrington, so they were in the top kitchen tonight. Team Blais had the eliminated contestant, so they were in the basement.
At the end of the night, two chefs – one each from the bottom two teams -- as selected by their mentors had to cook against each other in the elimination challenge, where, for one chef, their Next Level Chef journey ended. Here's our spoiler-filled recap of tonight's Next Level Chef, including who went home.

The challenge was to grab a mug of beer or ale off the platform and then pair proteins perfectly with the poured beer to create delicious dishes in the “Ale's Well-Ends Well” episode.
Instead of the normal mid-cook platform drop, a twist was added for the second drop of the night. The chefs each got one ball and one shot in a classic game of beer-pong in order to win more ingredients.
The winning chef was Connor Caine for the second week in a row with a lager-glazed chicken with charred corn and bone-marrow succotash, keeping Team Arrington in the top-level kitchen next week.

Gordon chose to send Amber into the elimination challenge, and Richard chose Darian.
The elimination challenge was 25 minutes to cook a dish using champagne that would keep them in the competition.
The chef that cooked her final dish in the Next Level Kitchen was Amber.
“It’s been an honor,” Amber said. “A lot of people get their starts in culinary school or other kitchens, I got my start here. My story is just beginning. I want to keep pushing myself, taking more culinary classes, traveling the world and continuing to grow as a chef.”
Next Level Chef airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Streams next day on Hulu.

On This Day in 1985: Julianne Moore Arrived in Oakdale and Changed Daytime History
On April 2, 1985, future Academy Award winner Julianne Moore made her debut on the CBS soap opera As The World Turns as Frannie Hughes.
“Hi Dad!” Frannie exclaimed in her first scene, as the Ivy League student returned to Oakdale for the wedding of her father Bob Hughes (Don Hastings) to Kim Sullivan (Kathryn Hays).
Over the next three years, Frannie’s life was filled with drama, from her relationship with ex-boyfriend Kevin Gibson (Steven Weber) to her involvement with club owner Doug Cummings, placing her at the center of several major storylines.
In 1986, Frannie left for Oxford to study psychology. While abroad, she spotted a woman who looked exactly like her. It was later revealed that the woman was Sabrina, Frannie’s presumed-dead sister, the daughter Bob and Kim had believed they lost years earlier. At that point, More began portraying dual roles on the series.
Speaking to IMDb, Moore reflected on her early career: “That was my first big job,” she said.
The actress expressed gratitude for the opportunity the series provided. “I was out of school about a year,” she explained. “It was a great job, and it was the first time that I was able to support myself by acting.”
Moore also recalled working alongside a talented cast. “I learned so much. Marisa Tomei was on that show with me, Meg Ryan was on, but she just left. Steven Webber played my boyfriend.”
She later joked that her work on As The World Turns helped prepare her for future roles, including playing twin sisters in the film Suburbicon. When discussing the role, she recalled telling the director, “I’m all over this.”
When As the World Turns was announced to be ending, Moore made herself available to production to return once again and close out her characters journey. So in April of 2010, Moore brought Frannie home once again to visit her family, and help celebrate her parents wedding anniversary.
Prior to As the World Turns, Moore made her professional acting debut a year prior on the CBS soap opera The Edge of Night where she portrayed the role of Carmen Engler for seven episodes.
In 1988 Moore won her first major award, as she received the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Ingenue in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Frannie and Sabrina.

Jamie Lee Curtis Welcomes Grandchild, Sharing ‘The Greatest Gift Is a Child’
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis recently revealed she became a grandmother. Or as she says, a “granny.” But the Academy Award-winning icon waited almost four months to share her baby news.
Curtis recently appeared on former First Lady Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’sIMO podcast, explaining why her family chose to keep this joyous occasion private. Before she opens up about her daughter and grandchild, the mom of two (she adopted daughters Annie and Ruby with husband actor Christopher Guest) talked about being a parent. Scratch that, marveled about being a parent, “All of this emotionality that I have, is really rooted in being their mother. The truth is that the greatest lessons, the hardest days ever in my life, ever, have been being a parent. And now, a grandparent.”
So why did she wait? Curtis reveals that everyone in their circle already knows about the baby. Her eldest daughter, Annie (and her husband Jason Wolf), welcomed a baby boy in December of 2025. And while their close family and friends knew about the birth, Curtis kept mum until the time was right, asking Annie for her permission to share.
Curtis continued, speaking about just how precious children are, and the importance of her own children and grandchild, “The idea that I would be this person at this age… forget the movies, forget things, forget the shiny things. The shiniest thing is a child. The greatest gift is a child, and getting the privilege of raising them and learning how to help someone through their life.”
At the time of the birth, Curtis and family were still reeling from a recent tragedy in the inner circle. She opened up on the podcast, saying, “My husband and I became grandparents to our eldest daughter and her husband, and their baby boy was born in December. And it was a week after Rob and Michelle (Reiner). And Rob and Michelle are her (Annie’s) godparents. And my beautiful daughter who loved them, as we all did, managed to be able to metabolize that grief and sadness…and then my daughter and her husband brought their son to this world a week later. And life on life’s harshest terms and life on life’s most beautiful terms.”
And while Curtis knew that the secret would get out, there was something truly special about making the announcement on this particular podcast. She explains to Obama, “My daughter Annie said, tell her I love her. You are loved. And so respected that she would say yes, Mom, you can talk about it to Michelle Obama… because you represented love in the world and you brought love to the White House and beyond…It’s really thrilling to me that the first time I’m going to say to the universe that I became a granny is here with you.”
From heartbreak to a heartwarming announcement, Curtis, her daughter Annie, and their whole family deserve all the best. As the new grandma (okay, granny) poignantly points out, “And the joy, I never thought I would have children, I never thought in my wildest dreams I would be a grandma.”
Kelly Osbourne Shares Rare Update With Son As Sid Wilson Breakup Rumors Swirl
Kelly Osbourne is leaning into the one relationship that's bringing her pure joy right now—and it's with her three-year-old son Sidney.
The 41-year-old shared a sweet video on her Instagram Story Thursday, April 2, showing herself and Sidney in an adorable morning moment. In the clip, Osbourne prompted her son to say good morning, to which he sweetly responded, "Mommy, good morning." When she asked for a kiss, Sidney playfully turned away—leaving Kelly's jaw on the floor—before pointing to his head and letting mom shower him with kisses instead.
A screenshot from Kelly Osbourne's Instagram account on April 2.The video comes amid reports from Daily Mail and TMZ that Osbourne has split from her fiancé (and Sidney’s father), Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson, just seven months after he proposed. The engagement itself was already emotionally loaded—Wilson popped the question at Ozzy Osbourne's final Black Sabbath concert last summer, a moment that took on added weight after Ozzy passed away in July 2025. Kelly has also been open about how deeply her father's death has affected her.
READ MORE: Kelly Osbourne Reportedly Ends Engagement From Sid Wilson
Kelly and Sid first met in 1999 when Slipknot toured alongside Ozzfest, turning romantic in 2022. On Valentine's Day that year, Kelly wrote publicly, "After 23 years of friendship, I can't believe where we have ended up. You are my best friend, my soulmate, and I am so deeply in love with you, Sidney George Wilson."
The breakup news also comes after Kelly faced a harsh wave of public criticism following her appearance at the 2026 BRIT Awards in February, where she accepted a lifetime achievement award on behalf of her late father. Rather than support, she was met with scrutiny over her weight loss. She addressed it directly on Instagram, writing, "There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something," and calling out those "kicking me while I'm down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most."
1979 Hit Ranked Among 'Top Classic Rock Songs' of All Time Became a Timeless Outlaw Anthem
Nearly 50 years after it first hit the airwaves, "Renegade" by Styx is still one of those songs you might hear blasting from someone's open car windows on the first warm day of the season. Why? Well, apart from the fact that it's a banger, to use the modern parlance, the lyrics speak to everyone's secret (or not so secret) outlaw impulses.
From the super popular 1978 album Pieces of Eight, "Renegade" was released as a single in 1979 and has remained a pop culture staple ever since. Not only is it still on the radio all the time, but the Pittsburgh Steelers used "Renegade" as their defensive rally song for years, plus it's shown up in a bunch of movies and TV shows (like Freaks and Geeks and Billy Madison).
Written by guitarist Tommy Shaw, the song tells the story of a man on the run from the law with a "high price" on his head: "The jig is up, the news is out / They finally found me / The renegade who had it made / Retrieved for a bounty / Nevermore to go astray / This'll be the end today of the wanted man"
It's no surprise that Ultimate Classic Rock included "Renegade" on its list of the "Top 100 Classic Rock Songs" of all time, ranking it #95. It was a big hit when it came out in '79, too, peaking at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100.
As Shaw told the outlet in 2024, the song might have accidentally been based on another big hit: "Band on the Run" by Wings.
Related: Iconic '70s Rocker, 72, Reveals New Details About 2026 Vegas Residency
"I wrote the basic parts of it on piano," Shaw explained. "I’m not a piano player, but in my living room, I had a reel-to-reel four-channel tape recorder. I’d been listening to Tales of Mystery and Imagination by the Alan Parsons Project. I had to learn that with my ham-fisted guitar hands. But I finally got it and I recorded it on one track. Then, I used the other tracks for three vocal parts. I wrote the words quickly and then recorded it like that. I listened back to it and it was like, 'I think this is good!'"
"I played it for the band and then they started coming up with the arrangements of it," he continued. “'Let’s speed it up. Let’s not make it this dirge thing that you’re playing. Let’s rock it up and then let’s put some high Styx vocals in the big parts.' I told Alan Parsons that. 'I feel like I need to confess to you that I kind of ripped off ‘Renegade’ from one of your songs.' He said, 'Paul McCartney says I ripped it off from him.'"
Either way, clearly songs about being on the run are what the people want to hear.

Courtney Love Sends Bold Message to Rock Icon Dave Grohl: 'Just Come Out With It'
Courtney Love aired out many memorable moments in her lengthy alternative rock career during a Wednesday, Apr. 1, appearance on The Magnificent Other with Billy Corgan.
The nearly two-hour conversation was riddled with name-dropping as the two rockers recounted their careers from the early days of both their bands in the late 1980s and up through the burgeoning Seattle alt-rock scene. Corgan and Love briefly dated and ran in the same circles, so the conversation is definitely worth a listen.
One of the most interesting moments in their conversation, aside from their shared stories about Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon (whom they both agreed was very rude), was near the end, when Love took a moment to talk about other musicians from their era that she thought she was cool with, but ultimately, they took shots at her for seemingly no reason.
Love illustrated her point by bringing up one of the guys in Tool who wore a "Free Frances Bean" T-shirt in the '90s, and how upset she was because she thought they were friends. Then, she brought up Dave Grohl, who played drums in Nirvana, the band fronted by her late husband, Kurt Cobain.
Love opined, "Grohl, just come out with it and say we're cool, come out with it. Right, like be man enough to man up," before claiming that the Foo Fighters frontman won't admit he and Love squashed their beef over a decade ago.
She continued, "You won't say it because you're afraid you'll lose your audience. You're afraid it will affect your relationship with literal Paul McCartney?"
Love implored, "Dave it would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base, if you will. stop picking on me."
"I can confirm that I've spent time with you and Dave together, and Dave doesn't have any issue with you," Billy Corgan confirmed.
Love went on to claim that Grohl allows the feud facade to continue because "he needs that image" before saying the Foo Fighters singer has written, "like four songs about me and they're hits!"
It's no secret that Love and Grohl famously feuded for nearly two decades, butting heads and even turning into legal disputes when it came to Nirvana's legacy and royalties. A seemingly personal vendetta that spilled out into Foo Fighters' music, with Grohl eventually admitting that he wrote "I'll Stick Around" about Love and even calling her an "ugly f**king b***h" on stage at the Witnness Festival in Ireland in 2002.
Love took plenty of shots at Grohl, too, accusing him of taking money that should have been hers and her daughter's and later accusing the Foo Fighters frontman of trying to seduce her then-19-year-old daughter, a claim that Frances Bean Cobain has denied.
In 2014, Love told David Letterman that she and Grohl ended their years-long feud. "We're friends again — we text, and we're cool," Love explained. "I think you just get to an age where, 'Why are we suing each other? Really?' It just got stupid. Me and Dave Grohl had some gnarly times over 20 years. And if we can make up, anyone can make up."
Though Corgan confirmed it and others have claimed to see Love and Grohl getting along just fine, he still hasn't officially confirmed that the feud with the Hole singer ended more than a decade ago.
Judge Dismisses Blake Lively’s Sexual Harassment Claims Against Justin Baldoni
A New York federal judge has thrown out actress Blake Lively's sexual harassment claims against actor and costar Justin Baldoni in connection with the making of the movie It Ends With Us, according to multiple news outlets. This dismissal comes after a more than year-long back and forth litigation around the film.
In today's ruling, Judge Lewis J. Liman determined that Lively, an independent contractor rather than an employee in this case, was not entitled to bring sexual harassment claims (under Title VII), nor due to jurisdictional grounds under California law. Lively had alleged over a dozen sexual harassment claims against Baldoni and other parties. Baldoni denied the allegations.

After reviewing the claims, Liman determined today that the alleged actions were part of Baldoni "acting in the scene" of the movie and wrote in his ruling, "At least in isolation, the conduct was directed to Lively's character rather than to Lively herself."
"Creative artists, no less than comedy room writers," Liman added, "must have some amount of space to experiment within the bounds of an agreed script without fear of being held liable for sexual harassment."
So what does this mean for Lively's sexual harassment claims? For now, it means they're dead in the water. They have been thrown out of the case, so neither Lively or Baldoni's lawyers will have the chance to prove or disprove sexual harassment allegations one way or the other.
Three claims do remain in the case, however—for retaliation, aiding and abetting retaliation, and breach of contract—none which include Baldoni.
Baldoni's legal team, in a statement shared with People, said, "What’s left is a significantly narrowed case, and we look forward to presenting our defense to the remaining claims in court.”
An attorney from Lively's legal team Sigrid McCawley shared the following statement with Parade: “This case has always been and will remain focused on the devastating retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively’s reputation because she stood up for safety on the set and that is the case that is going to trial. For Blake Lively, the greatest measure of justice is that the people and the playbook behind these coordinated digital attacks have been exposed and are already being held accountable by other women they’ve targeted. She looks forward to testifying at trial and continuing to shine a light on this vicious form of online retaliation so that it becomes easier to detect and fight.”
McCawley adds, “Sexual harassment isn’t going forward not because the defendants did nothing wrong but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee.”
A trial date is scheduled for May 18.
Lively and Baldoni co-starred in and Baldoni directed the 2024 movie It Ends With Us, which is based on a Colleen Hoover novel by the same name.
Previously, Baldoni and production company Wayfarer Studios countersued Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, accusing them of defamation and extortion. A judge dismissed those claims last June.
‘I’m a Psychologist, and I’m Begging Parents To Stop Using This 1 Common Phrase'
I’m a child psychologist, and there’s one error that even the most well-intentioned parents make regarding a common phrase they use about their goals for their children.
Picture the scene: It’s the first day of parenting classes, and I ask the group, "Tell me about your parenting values."
Inevitably, one person will raise their hand and say, “I just want my kids to be happy.” Heads all around the room nod enthusiastically, and my heart sinks.
It sounds so good, right? "I want my kids to be happy." That sounds so positive, so gentle, so supportive and so very, very misguided.
I mean, what’s wrong with happiness? Shouldn’t we want our kids to be happy, to experience positive emotions and have an idyllic, joyful childhood? This is especially true for those of us who had childhoods that weren’t exactly perfect, or for those of us who felt pressured by the way we were parented to achieve or to shut down our emotions, or who never felt truly understood and supported in childhood.
Even those of us who had great childhoods remember the happy times fondly, and of course, we’d want that for our kids.
This is the mistake that Pixar’s Inside Out movie illustrates so beautifully. At the beginning of the movie, we meet Riley, a little girl, and the emotions that run her "console," managing her life by allowing her to feel reactions to events. Joy is the emotion that runs the console at the start of everything; she’s the captain of the ship. She’s in charge of keeping Riley happy. In fact, Riley’s mom explicitly tells her that her mom and dad want her to be their "happy little girl."
But Riley isn’t happy. She’s going through a tough culture shock, moving from Minnesota to San Francisco, missing her friends, and her favorite possessions are lost with a misdirected moving van. Her mom’s well-meaning message sets Riley up for some pretty challenging experiences, until the family learns to allow some other, less pleasant emotions in.
Below, I'll explain more about why parents shouldn't use this common phraseand what you can say instead, so that you build resilience and emotional tolerance in your children.

Why Parents Should Stop Using This 1 Common Phrase, According to a PsychologistThere are a few different reasons why parents should avoid using the phrase “I just want my kids to be happy."
Happiness isn’t universally sustainableHappiness is not a natural human state. Happiness is a fleeting emotion that tells us, “That was a positive experience. Try to repeat it.” Happiness is great, but it’s not universally sustainable, and the burden of "being happy for mom and dad" can be a subtle pressure that actually can increase negative mental health outcomes for kids.
In Inside Out, Riley’s emotions conspire to keep Sadness at bay. They try to banish Sadness to one tiny circle inside the brain. When Sadness correctly talks about how difficult it is to move, how her friends are back at home, that all of her favorite possessions are not around or that it’s not so easy to leave childhood behind, the other emotions try to suppress her.
We can’t always be happy. Life is sometimes sad, or scary, or frustrating. If a child knows that their parents are so committed to keeping them happy all the time, they may not feel comfortable sharing less-than-happy emotions with their parents. This is what can sometimes keep children from telling parents about the first signs of true distress or dysfunction.
“My brain is telling me that I’m fat,” “I have panic attacks when I have to take a test” or “My best friend just dropped me” aren’t happy statements. If the child is afraid of their parent’s reaction to distress, they may not bring those thoughts and occurrences up to their parent.
Parents also sometimes rush to "fix" it when a child isn’t happy. I was working with a mom who told me that she was trying so hard to cheer her child up when he lost an important competition, she forgot to give him time and space to process it. He finally told her, “I don’t want to cheer up. I want to be mad right now!” before she realized how hard she had been trying.
It’s OK to be "mad right now" right after a loss. That "mad" feeling sometimes helps us troubleshoot, problem solve or plan for next time. “Mad right now” is acceptable, but when a parent "just wants her kids to be happy," she may not make space for that.

It's an outcome, not a value“I just want my kids to be happy” describes an outcome, not a value. Values are freely chosen and personally meaningful directions for how you want to show up in life. Outcomes are endpoints; they’re specific goals that you either meet or fail to meet. Parenting based on a specific and narrow outcome is likely to fail. Humans rarely follow the scripts we lay out for them.
“I just want my kids to be happy” is not only an outcome, but it's an impossible outcome. Humans cannot be responsible for the emotional state of other humans. We can’t control how other people feel. We can provide ingredients for certain emotions, but we can’t control that outcome. Trying to attain the unattainable is a recipe for frustration.
It doesn’t teach a useful skillLet’s face it: Statistically speaking, our kids are far more likely to encounter other emotional states than happiness in their day. As adults, they’re unlikely to be all happy, all the time. Aren’t we much better off teaching them how to handle their more challenging emotions, like sadness, anger, disgust, frustration, shame or guilt? It’s our job as parents to provide them with emotional literacy, to help them understand what they are feeling, why and what to do about it. Often, emotions are data. They give us quick information about the world, and it’s our job to interpret that information accurately and then decide how we want to act on it.
If I’m nervous about the big science test next week, that’s great! That’s my anxiety, warning me that if I don’t do something (like study!), I might fail. This is useful data. I have a week to study. The anxious sensation is warning me, telling me to take action. “Just being happy” won’t help me accurately interpret and utilize that data. It’s the same with anger, which identifies our boundaries, or guilt, which identifies our values.
Emotions aren’t the enemy. They can be our best friends. “I just want you to be happy” doesn’t allow us to use emotions properly.
5 Types of Phrases That Actually Teach Kids To Avoid Their Feelings1. "Erasing the feelings" phrases- "You’re fine."
- "It’s not a big deal."
- "Stop crying" or "Big kids don’t cry."
These phrases, while seemingly comforting, give kids the message that their emotions are wrong or too much. Yes, of course, we want to reassure a child that a scraped knee isn’t life-threatening, but it also hurts. And it’s OK for it to hurt for a moment.
Sometimes, something minor does feel like a big deal to a small child. And yes, excessive tears can sometimes feel a bit too much, and we do want to teach children proportionality, but it’s usually better to allow tears to take their course than to ask children to mask their genuine emotional response.
2. "Minimizing the feelings" phrases- "It could be worse."
- "Other kids have it harder."
- "There’s nothing to be upset about."
- "At least... (XYZ)"
These seem kinder than the ones that tell kids to dismiss their feelings, but you’re still telling the child that their emotional reaction is incorrect. In the moment of pain, disappointment or overwhelming emotion, we want validation and support with the sensation, not cognitive reframing.
In the first Inside Out movie, there’s a wonderful scene where a character named Bing-Bong is overwhelmed by emotion at a significant loss. Joy tries to cheer him up, to talk him out of his emotional state, to distract him and reframe it. Sadness just listens to him and gives him a moment to cry. Once he does cry, Bing-Bong is ready to move on. He reframes the disappointment himself.
3. "Rushing the feelings" phrases- "It’ll be OK."
- "You’ll get over it."
- "You’ll do better next time."
The core message is "Let’s not stay here in the discomfort, let’s fast-forward past it." But we can’t rush emotional processing. It’s true that they’ll get over it. Most of us can remember situations that felt crushing when we were kids—our first failure, our first unrequited crush, our first rejection—and we got over them. But do you remember how crushing that moment felt?
If we fast forward past the initial sensation, we don’t get to absorb the feelings, learn from them and become more resilient. "It will be OK" is something that the child can come to on their own when we support them through their feelings about what happened. Our temptation is to fix the emotions in the moment, but platitudes rarely fix anything.
4. "Replacing the feelings" phrases- "Cheer up."
- "Look at the bright side."
- "Think positive."
The core message is to replace an uncomfortable emotion with a better one. This isn’t a bad message. In fact, we do teach children to shift their emotional state, to self-regulate and that uncomfortable emotions are not a prison. The key is that we want our children to decide to do that on their own.
When I teach a child that if they’re feeling anxious, they can do some deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation, or that taking a break and going for a walk can help us out of a funk, or the power of cognitive reframing, I’m teaching a skill. The crucial distinction is when we teach that skill. I’d rather teach that skill at a calm time, when the child isn’t struggling with intense emotions, because the child might read that as my desire to shut down their emotions. I’d rather validate first, make room for discomfort and emotions and then help the child reframe their thinking.
“Think positive” isn’t an emergency brake for emotions; it’s the way to think when we’re not experiencing intense emotions. Once we’ve felt our feelings and they’ve subsided a bit, that’s the time to think positively.

5. "Regulating the parent" phrases- "Don’t be so dramatic."
- "Calm down."
- "You’re making a scene."
- "You’re embarrassing me."
The core message here is, "Your feelings are too much for me," and "Your feelings are now exposing me to social judgment and discomfort." You're telling your kid, "You shouldn’t feel this way, because when you feel this way, I feel discomfort, and that’s an emergency."
This makes the child the caretaker of the parents’ emotions. When we tell a child, “Your feelings are too much for me,” we’re also telling the child, “Your feelings are too much for the world.” That’s a dangerous message for kids to internalize.

This Is What Parents Should Say Instead To Build Resilience and Emotional Tolerance“I just want you to be happy” is an understandable sentiment, but it’s misguided. It’s impossible, it’s unrealistic and it sets both kids and parents up for failure. If happiness is the goal, challenging emotions start to feel like failure.
The goal is not to raise a child who is always happy. It’s to raise a child who can handle unhappiness when it inevitably shows up.
Instead of trying to make the feeling go away, we want to help our children learn that they can handle it. That might sound like, “I know this is hard. I’m here with you.”
The shift is subtle but powerful: we focus less on comfort and more on capacity. We’re teaching children that discomfort isn’t dangerous, that feelings don’t have to be rushed or fixed and that they don’t have to face them alone. It’s not our job to make sure our children are always happy. It’s our job to make sure they know they can handle life when they’re not.

Tiger Woods Tells Police He Just Called President Trump, New Bodycam Footage Reveals
Tiger Woods told Florida police that he called President Trump at the scene of his March 27 car accident and DUI arrest, new bodycam footage reveals.
In the video acquired by the New York Post, which was taken from bodycam footage, Woods, 50, can be seen telling police, "I was just talking with the president." Previously, Woods was walking further away from the vehicle, but could be heard saying, “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye,” into the phone.
The officers went on to ask Woods to refrain from straying from the site of the accident or putting anything into his mouth. They then went on to administer a field sobriety test.

— New York Post (@nypost) April 2, 2026Woods has been dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., for over a year, according to Page Six.
When Was Tiger Woods in a Car Accident? On March 27, Woods was involved in a rollover car crash when his Land Rover rolled over after he “overtook” a pressure-cleaning truck that was pulling a small trailer, Sheriff John M. Budensiek said in a press conference on Friday, PEOPLE noted.
Earlier on Thursday, bodycam footage was released that showed the legendary golfer being arrested by Florida police.
The videos, which were released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and shared by local news station WPBF on Thursday, April 2, show the athlete being put in handcuffs following a rollover crash.
“At this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired,” the arresting officer can be heard saying to Woods.
“Am I being arrested?” Woods asks.
“Yes, sir,” she responds.
The officers proceed to search the golfer’s pockets. They reportedly found cash, a pair of AirPods, nicotine pouches, and two opioid pills, PEOPLE reported.
Will Tiger Woods Seek Treatment?Yes. Woods recently received the permission of a Florida judge to leave the United States to seek treatment following his car accident and arrest for DUI, according to court documents obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE. According to the documents, the athlete’s physician made the recommendation that he leave the country “based upon the Defendant’s complex clinical presentation, the urgent need for a level of care that cannot safely or effectively be done within the United States.”
The recommendation that Woods seek treatment out of the U.S. was also based on the idea that his “privacy has been repeatedly compromised.”

Crumbl Enters a New Era With Major Company Move
Crumbl has officially moved into its new headquarters.
Sawyer Hemsley, co-founder of the dessert company, took to Instagram to share photos of Crumbl’s new workspace, where their test kitchen and offices are housed.
Founded in 2017 by Hemsley and his cousin Jason McGowan in Logan, Utah, Crumbl’s move marks a new chapter in the company’s history.
“I’ll never stop being grateful for everyone who’s part of the Crumbl family,” Hemsley posted on Instagram. “And especially you, our customers. This space already has such an incredible energy. So much color, life, creativity, and passion across every team. I’m excited to get to work and build what’s next.. 2026 is going to be really special!”
View this post on InstagramHemsley said that he and his cousin never expected Crumbl to grow into what it has become today.
“Still putting on the final touches, but I had to share this moment,” Hemsley said. “I gave my mom and little sister a tour and it just hit me how far this has all come.”
Designed by Interior Concepts Design House, Hemsley has been sharing updates on the building of Crumbl HQ for several weeks. In an Instagram post last month, he shared a behind-the-scenes reel of Crumbl’s new test kitchen.
“One of the biggest reasons for the move was to expand our test kitchen and create more space for our bakers to keep doing what they do best,” Hemsley said. “Creating the amazing desserts you know and love.”
Hemsley said he’s calling the test kitchen Crumbl’s “new dessert playground.” He said it’s a space built for the future.
Crumbl recently revived its “most controversial” cookie flavor, available only on April 1 — the Almost Everything Bagel sandwich cookie. It’s made of two thin, buttery cookies coated in an “almost everything bagel blend,” sandwiched with a light cream cheese filling. Hemsley described it as “a little crazy.”
“It’s a little unexpected,” Hemsley said. “And honestly that’s kind of the point.”
While the Almost Everything Bagel cookie is now off the menu, here’s what you’ll find in their limited-edition “Easter Bundl”:
🥕 Carrot Cake – Two layers of carrot cake mixed with warm spices, coconut, pineapple, and carrots, finished with a light glaze, vanilla cream cheese frosting, and chopped pecans.
🍭 Easter Pink Sugar Cookie – Crumbl’s classic almond sugar cookie topped with a silky pink and green marbling of real almond frosting.
🍓 Strawberries ‘n’ Cream Cookie – A vanilla cake cookie topped with fresh house-made whipped cream, strawberry jam, and strawberry slices.
💐 Spring M&M’S Cookie – A timeless cookie bursting with colorful, spring-inspired M&M’S® candies.
🐦 Robin’s Nest Dirt Cake Cup – Layers of silky chocolate mousse, crunchy cookies & cream streusel, and gummy worms, topped with Dubai chocolate-inspired pistachio crème, crisp kataifi, and chocolate candy eggs.
