NYPD Blue alum Kim Delaney is involved in a lawsuit tied to a 2022 car crash she was involved in, and recent comments she made to the judge are raising eyebrows.

According to TMZ on February 19, a new legal filing by Delaney's team indicates that she fled the scene of the 2022 because she was concerned for her safety.

The filing reviewed by TMZ indicated that according to Delaney, the neighborhood where the accident occurred was one where she had a "previous history of personal assault."

Delaney's filing alleged that as an actress who "has appeared in television series and movies, and is additionally fearful of any retribution or attack based on her perceived celebrity status." In addition to starring on NYPD Blue, Delaney has had roles on other shows such as General Hospital and Chicago Fire.

She also denies she was under the influence and insists the crash happened due to factors outside of her control.

On TMZ's Instagram page, numerous people responded to the story by questioning who Delaney is, signaling that she is not so famous that she has reason to fear harm in a situation such as the accident. Several others were stunned by the "entitlement" shown by Delaney with her excuse.

In the filing, according to TMZ, Delaney acknowledges she was involved in the accident. The other driver, Dzhamal Badalov, is suing Delaney for unspecified damages.

Badalov alleges that Delaney was under the influence and had been driving erratically prior to hitting him. TMZ noted that according to Badalov, Delaney smelled of alcohol and offered him money as an incentive to leave the authorities out of it all.

In January 2024, TMZ reported that Badalov filed his lawsuit over the accident. The incident happened in November 2022 on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Badalov was on a motorcycle and stopped at a red light when he was hit by Delaney.

Us Weekly detailed in June 2025 that Badalov stated in his lawsuit filing that witnesses saw Delaney driving "erratically down Venice Boulevard without staying in the street lanes and swerving into the concrete median in the middle of the street."

After he was hit, the impact caused Badalov to be "thrown off his motorcycle and land onto the street."

Delaney allegedly was barefoot and "not able to walk properly" when she stepped out of the car. Badalov's filing indicated that "her eyes appeared unable to stop moving in all direction as if she was unable to control them, her balance looked unsteady, and she was slurring while attempting to speak."

Badalov seeks unspecified damages due to experiencing "serious bodily injuries, pain and suffering."

The FX's limited series, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, makes it clear that she wasn’t easily swayed by the charms of America’s favorite son.

In fact, when Kennedy proposed, Bessette played a long game. She reportedly made him wait for an answer.

PEOPLE Magazine cited Kennedy’s assistant, RoseMarie Terenzio, who recalled details of his heartfelt proposal to Bessette. The moment reportedly took place in July 1995.

Kennedy was said to have proposed marriage while fishing with Bessette off Martha's Vineyard. Terenzio told the publication, "He went into this thing about how everything's better with a partner, not just fishing but life. He said, 'I want you to be my partner.'"

E! News reported that Bessette made Kennedy wait three weeks for an answer before saying yes.

This real-life moment was echoed in the FX series, when Bessette appeared to act nonchalantly to Kennedy's attempts to win her heart. Despite there being sparks between the two as far back as 1992, Bessette played a long game when it came to their relationship as depicted in the series.

“She understood that the formality meant something, especially to John and his lifestyle,” Terenzio said in her 2012 book Fairy Tale Interrupted, as reported by Vogue. “He was pretty old-fashioned, and given his place in the world, he couldn’t be single forever. I actually think that made John even more eager to marry her.”

The couple would eventually marry in a wedding that evaded the paparazzi and even caught their closest friends off guard. On September 21, 1996, the couple tied the knot on Cumberland Island, off the coast of Georgia.

At 8:00 AM on February 19, his 66th birthday, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsorwas arrested by Thames Valley Police at the Sandringham Estate, effectively ending centuries of royal immunity in a single morning. While the detention of a prince on suspicion of misconduct in public office has paralyzed the British establishment, the constitutional shockwaves look remarkably familiar to the winter of 1647 —the last time a high-ranking member of the royal bloodline was taken into custody by the state.

To understand how the police were able to arrest a Royal today, we have to look at the bloody charges leveled against Charles I. When he was brought to trial in January 1649, he wasn't accused of being a "bad king." The prosecution, led by Solicitor General John Cook, crafted a charge that was revolutionary: Charles was a "tyrant, traitor, and murderer."

The core of Charles I's crime was High Treason, but not in the modern usage of the term. Usually, treason meant a subject betraying the King. Parliament flipped the script, arguing that the King had betrayed his subjects. The evidence was visceral:

• Levying War: Charles was accused of personally commissioning wars against his own people, leading his army at battles like Edgehill and Naseby.
• The "Blood Guilt": The court argued that every drop of blood spilled in the English Civil Wars was on the King's hands because he had prioritized his "personal interest of will" over the public peace.
• Breach of Trust: Parliament asserted that the office of the King was a "fiduciary trust." By using his power to suspend Parliament and tax citizens without consent (the infamous "Ship Money"), he had broken the contract with the realm.

Fast forward to 2026. While we’ve traded the scaffold for the interrogation room, the legal DNA of the case against Mountbatten-Windsor is strikingly similar. He is being investigated for Misconduct in Public Office, a common-law offense that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The parallels in their alleged crimes are centered on the abuse of official access:

• The Shared Secret: Just as Charles I was accused of using his "Royal Prerogative" to subvert the law, Andrew is accused of leveraging his state-given role as a UK Trade Envoy. The investigation centers on allegations that he shared confidential trade documents with Jeffrey Epstein in 2010—effectively using state secrets as a form of private social currency.
• The Rejection of Immunity: In 1649, Charles relied on the Divine Right of Kings, famously asking, "I would know by what power I am called hither." Today, Andrew’s "Divine Right" was effectively neutralized when King Charles III stripped him of his titles and the "sovereign shield" of the Firm.
• The Sovereign’s Severance: In a move that mirrors the cold pragmatism of the Cromwellian era, the modern King Charleshas signaled that the individual is separate from the institution. "The law must take its course," Buckingham Palace stated this morning. It is a modern acknowledgement that the "body politic" must be protected from the "body natural" of a rogue Royal.

So, what is next for a Royal who no longer has the protection of the Crown? Unlike Charles I, whose trial was over in a week, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faces the deliberate, unhurried machinery of the modern British justice system.

Following the arrest at Sandringham, the investigation enters a critical pre-charge phase. According to the BBC, under the Criminal Procedure Rules, the police have a standard 24-hour window to question the suspect, though this can be extended to 96 hours for complex cases involving voluminous digital evidence. The next milestone rests with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). To move to a formal indictment, prosecutors must satisfy the "Full Code Test": determining if there is a realistic prospect of conviction and if a prosecution is in the public interest.

Should the CPS proceed, Mountbatten-Windsor would make an initial appearance at a Magistrates' Court before the case is formally sent to the Crown Court for trial. If an indictment follows, he will face a jury of citizens—a procedural fulfillment of the 1649 principle that no individual, regardless of lineage, stands above the law. It is there that the defense’s likely reliance on residual immunity will meet a modern legal landscape that has increasingly prioritized transparency over the traditional protections of the Crown.

It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new.”

Foo Fighters’ new album heralds their massive 2026 Take Cover world tour. After playing festivals Welcome to Rockville and Bottlerocket Napa Valley, the band will head overseas in June, playing a handful of European dates before returning to North America in August. In November, the band will head down to Australia and New Zealand, continuing the tour well into 2027.

Once upon a time, 19 Kids and Counting felt like it was everywhere. But as the years passed and headlines grew darker, the family slowly retreated from the spotlight. So when Anna Duggar popped up on Instagram this week — nearly five years after husband Josh Duggar's arrest — it's no surprise the internet took notice.

On Wednesday, February 18, the mom of seven took to her Golden Grove Pups account with a sweet post introducing three new furry faces. "Meet Whitaker, Beaumont, and Harrington — three of our handsome little golden guys 🐶💛," she wrote, adding that the trio would be "heading to their new homes very soon." 

In the accompanying video, Anna, 37, is seen cradling all three puppies in the front seat of a car, waiting for a vet appointment. She introduces Whitaker as her personal favorite — "He's a little bit darker," she explains — before pointing out Harrington and Beaumont. As for Josh, 37, a federal jury convicted him in December 2021, and he was sentenced in May 2022 to 151 months in federal prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He is serving his sentence at FCI Seagoville in Texas, with a release date currently listed for October 2032.

HBO Max’s critically-acclaimed The Pitt is in the midst of their sophomore season, and Supriya Ganesh affirms the team effort it takes to create and deliver stories that connect with their audiences. 

Ganesh, who plays senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan on the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning medical drama, sat down with Parade to discuss the intense Fourth of July shift taking place throughout this season. A major obstacle Dr. Mohan faces this year involves the issues that arise with health insurance when treating patient Orlando Diaz. Ever the patient advocate, Samira and her colleagues have to figure out how to maneuver the system in order to treat Mr. Diaz with adequate care for his diabetes, all while she is dealing with a personal battle of deciding her post-residency plans. 

This season, Ganesh says that Samira is “more confident” in part thanks to the addition of Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, played by Sepideh Moafi, a former colleague of Dr. Mohan’s, “whose style is very similar to hers in a lot of ways”.

The doctors and nurses of The Pitt and their stories have touched the hearts of their audience not only because of the realistic medical accuracy displayed in the writing, but because of the depiction of diverse stories and cultures represented by the cast, who are nominated for Best Ensemble at the Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA (previously The Sag Awards) this year. When asked what it means to be part of this cast, Ganesh says, “It means the world. And I'm so happy that all the people of color on the show got recognized with the Ensemble Award. I think everyone on the show does such good work, and so it was really exciting for all of us to get the news that we were getting nominated. And yeah, I mean, it's truly such a team effort.”

Ganesh continues, “We put so much time into making sure if we're background in one scene, we're going to be background in another scene, which is not normal for most shows. So it really is like this team effort and tapestry we're weaving.”

Is there anyone in the cast that you haven't worked with either this season or last season that you want to work with, or you just want to work with more?
Honestly, Patrick [Ball]. We haven't really worked as much together this season or even last season. Maybe one scene last season and this season, and so I'm really hoping I get to play around with him more. He's so talented. He's such a great actor. I mean, honestly, everyone on the show is just really great. And even Shabana [Azeez], we had some scenes this season that I think ended up getting cut, just for, like, timing reasons. I don't know if people know this, but, like, we shoot essentially, like 60 to sometimes even 70 minutes. That's what our episodes end up to. They cut it down to 45. So there's like quite a lot of stuff in our scripts that people don't really get to see. I wonder if there's an unedited director's cut that exists somewhere.

I would love to see all the scenes that got cut in the final edit.
Oh, yeah, there's so many I can think of. People would lose their minds if they knew about this.

What was the prep for Samira like when you first got the role? Did you get any background information about her before starting?
No. I did know that she is this workaholic, and her dad died when she was young. It was like a very well-written, well-rounded character, but there was so much about her that changed also to fit me. Samira was 36 when I first got the audition. And they aged her down so that I could be on the show. But a lot of the prep that I did for her, I drew from my own background and talking to other doctors, talking to other residents.

One thing I actually find really interesting, which I don't know if people know this, but doctors actually role-play and rehearse a lot, especially when you're training to be a doctor. Shabana was actually talking to me about this, where she would act as a patient for doctors in Australia. And they'd have to figure outwhat was wrong with her, which is so interesting and funny. But, I mean, that's one thing I really thought was so "cat-nippy" for Samira, because she's so work-oriented. She doesn't really have a life outside of this. And I wondered what it would be like if this was really the only social interaction she was getting. It's like an interaction she's rehearsed so much. Because of these role-playing situations and stuff in medical school.

And so it felt like a really interesting way for me to click into her. And I also think what I find really interesting about her when we see this in Season 2 is that she's really professional, courteous and empathetic with her patients. But anything outside of that, she's prickly and emotionally stunted. She doesn't really know what to do. There's a lot of really cool prep I did for that in between seasons, especially where I was really building out her life. I feel so grateful that I got to play her.

Actors sometimes make a playlist of songs to get into character. Do you have one for Samira?
Yeah, my Season 1 and Season 2 playlists were so different. My Season 1 playlist was a lot of “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Because I think Samira as a character is really self-conscious, and she feels like she's not really where she needs to be in her self-confidence and her ability to sink into this leadership position that she's essentially being asked to step into, which is something I heard a lot from doctors when I was researching. They said an R3 year was really a "fail or fly" moment for them. And so I really wanted to lean into that aspect of her.

In Season 2, a lot of her storyline centers around health insurance. And songs are such great creative juice for me. So a lot of the music I was listening to was really centered around just how absurd it is that we're dealing with this problem still. For Samira, especially, she's such a patient advocate that I think not being able to help someone because of health insurance is really frustrating to her. And I think it's very similar for a lot of doctors. At least that several times I've been in the system and the doctors I've spoken to, they don't really understand the system themselves. Like, if you ask a doctor how much of this it's going to cost, they don't really know. They're kind of like, "Well, the insurance company decides that almost." And it just feels like this overwhelming thing that as a society as a whole, I think we're trying to fight, especially now.

And so I think a lot of the songs I was listening to really reflected that. There was a lot of Florence and the Machine, specifically that album she made right after the pandemic, “Dance Fever”, where I think she was just dealing with the absurdity of what the world is now. I was listening a lot to the Phoebe Bridgers cover of the Bo Burnham song ‘Funny Feeling.' Because I sometimes feel like I'm walking around, I'm just like, “What?” So much of this just feels absurd. I actually found this out online. The person who made insulin wanted it to be free. They, I think, patented it for $1 or something like that. He just thought that it was such an important discovery that people should just have access to it. So to compare that to where we are now, I think to me at least, it's just absurd.

What do you think her routine at home is when she finishes her shift?
I mean, I don't know if she has one. I think she goes home, showers, but it's like a really quick shower. I think she has Dove body wash. And that's it. I think she just showers, and then she's on EM:RAP. She's researching. This season, she's looking for a new fellowship, looking for a new opportunity, looking to see if there's anything that can fall in place for her with her plans and, or lack of them. I think she's reading papers. I think she's figuring out if there's something she's behind in. And then I think she goes to bed, maybe gets like 5 to 6 hours of sleep, and then starts the whole day again.

I don't think she has that much of a routine, which feels similar to me when I'm overworked and stressed. But when my schedule is clearer, and especially when I was on the show, and I was in that rhythm last season, I definitely had a wind-down routine. So I cannot imagine what it must be like to be that type of person every day. It's just very interesting to me how I think she has very little care for herself, but so much for her patients.

I heard your go-to CPR song is ‘Pink Pony Club.' Were there any other songs that you heard from other people on the show that stood out to you?
Oh, I can't remember. But there were definitely some ones on there where I was like, “I did not know that was 100 to 120 beats per minute.” Shabana definitely, though, was like, “I can't do Pink Pony Club because I'm just going to start crying while I do CPR,” which is like certainly a risk that I'm willing to contend with because I feel like it would make me kind of go harder at saving this person's life.

Yungblud fans, the next chapter is officially on the way. But it doesn't make sense to a lot of fans.

The genre-blurring rocker revealed on Instagram, "Let’s finish the story. IDOLS II. Out Friday." The upcoming release serves as the second half of his ambitious double-album project, following IDOLS, which came out in June 2025 via Locomotion/Capitol Records.

The first installment made plenty of noise thanks to the sprawling nine-minute opener "Hello Heaven, Hello," along with standouts "Lovesick Lullaby" and "Zombie," the latter of which gained serious traction on both the UK Singles Chart and Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Singles chart. The new record promises to continue that momentum and expand the universe even further, but some fans aren't happy with the tracklist.

"I personally think the 'Zombie' Smashing Pumpkins should of stayed a normal single but really excited for the other songs," said one Redditor in a thread about the new release.

Another pointed out how the artist, born Dominic Harrison, allegedly shortened the upcoming release by a few songs. "There was originally 28 songs before he did the Smashing Pumpkins 'Zombie.' What's he doing?"

Some speculate he's moving these removed songs to another album. Others think they're being saved for a special edition release. Still, others think they might have been removed altogether because they "didn't match the vibe anymore."

The British alt-rock star has built a staggering global following in recent years. His previous two albums both hit No. 1 in the UK and cracked the Billboard Top 100, while his catalog has now surpassed an eye-popping 6 billion streams worldwide.

John Travolta rang in his 72nd birthday by taking to the skies, sharing on Instagram on Feb. 18 that he earned yet another pilot's license, adding to a flying career that began in his 20s.

In the video, Travolta takes off in a Bombardier Global Express before appearing in the cockpit to announce, "I just accomplished my license in the Global Express SIC."

Travolta is then seen standing outside the aircraft, sharing, "So this is the Global Express. Take a look." He then says with a laugh, "Congratulations to me."

His post was captioned, "It’s my birthday today! And I’m very proud to say I got my license in the Global Express! Thank you for all my birthday wishes!"

According to Simple Flying, Travolta has been a licensed pilot since the age of 22 and holds multiple advanced ratings, including certifications to fly several large commercial and private jets. Over the years, he's earned multiple FAA ratings and has even flown aircraft as large as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380.

In 2020, Travolta shared a rare throwback photo on Instagram from when he was 15, revealing that his school offered aviation classes, which first sparked his passion for flying.

"Throwback Thursday: When I was 15 years old, my school offered an aviation class which started my second career," he captioned the post.

In a 2008 interview with CBS News, the Grease actor shared why he loved flying so much. "Aviation has always bailed me out of anything in my mind that is blue," the actor said. "I can look through an airline schedule and brochure and cheer up."

Halle Berry has had a boatload of memorable roles, but one of our favorites is when she played Jinx opposite Pierce Brosnan in 2002's Die Another Day.

During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Berry revealed that she actually got to keep the iconic piece of swimwear.

"Yep!" Berry told the audience when asked.

"Now that's a question! It lives rent-free in all of our minds," Barrymore echoed.

Back in 2001, Berry told Vogue that during the development of the film, they had a feeling that the bikini would go down in pop culture history, so they knew they had to choose something that was perfect.

"We tried on so many bathing suits," she told the publication. "So many bikinis and so many belts."

Before Berry got to keep the steamy bikini, the hot two-piece actually had a run in museums. Now that's a work of art!

Berry now appears in Crime 101 alongside Chris Hemsworth. The next role she tackles will be in Fleur, in which she will play a woman who leaves her marriage for Paris and reinvents herself as an elite escort. She said she relates to the role, which she is also producing, in a strange way.

“I relate to a woman who made that choice, putting everybody before herself, and now what’s left for her?” she noted in The Times.

Looking back on her child-rearing years, everything wasn’t perfect.

“I kept my career while I had kids and it was a juggling act. I missed big moments with them. But I’ve also been the breadwinner of my family… So I’ve had to take care of all of us and sometimes I’ve been resentful of that,” she explained. “But at the same time I’m grateful I held on to my career because when they’re gone, I’m still gonna have me.”

The songwriter and former actress—who dated the King of Rock and Roll for over four years during the '70s—was in attendance for the premiere of Baz Luhrmann's highly-anticipated new film, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.

Thompson, 75, hit the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Calif., on Wednesday, Feb. 18, while dressed in a stylish black midi dress that was completely covered in sequins.

Her sparkling dress featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a long sleeve on one side. Thompson made the already-dazzling look pop even more by adding a pair of cheetah-print heels and a matching handbag with the same pattern.

Thompson dated Presley for four years between 1972 and 1976, following his split from ex-wife Priscilla Presley.

Thompson opened up about her relationship with Presley in her 2016 memoir, A Little Thing Called Life. In the book, Thompson reflected on the downfall of their relationship around late 1976, at the height of his prescription drug addiction. 

"When I looked at all the pieces of myself that I had given up on Elvis’s behalf, increasingly I saw that staying with him would demand a sacrifice that I was unwilling to make," Thompson wrote. "I'd always wanted to be a mother, but I could not bring a baby into my life with Elvis."

"As much as I loved him," she wrote, "I knew I wanted more—and motherhood was just the start."

Less than a year after his breakup from Thompson, Elvis died at the age of 42 in August 1977. 

Following her relationship with Presley, Thompson went on to marry Caitlyn Jenner in 1981, and the pair welcomed two sons together, Brandon, 44, and Brody, 42, before divorcing in 1986.

Thompson was also previously married to David Foster for over ten years prior to their 2005 divorce.

While most fans want to dive into the concert experience, one Donny Osmond fan got more than she expected at one of his shows—and is now suing the singer.

During a 2024 show at Harrah's Las Vegas, concertgoer Joanne Julkowski alleges she was "suddenly and forcefully struck in the back of the head by one of the lighted balls that had been thrown or propelled into the crowd," according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

As a result, Julkowski filed a lawsuit in Nevada's Clark County, where she alleges that she "sustained serious injuries, including a traumatic retinal eye injury to her right eye with retinal detachment requiring surgical intervention and resulting visual impairment, as well as associated head and neck injuries," which "required [her] to obtain extensive medical care."

Beyond her physical injuries, Julkowski says she's faced "severe emotional distress, including psychological trauma, fear, anxiety, PTSD, and loss of joy in life," and "physical pain, discomfort, disability, and limitations in her daily activities." She also said she now faces lost wages and the inability to make a living.

In addition to Osmond, Donny Osmond Concerts, Inc., and Harrah's are listed as defendants in the lawsuit. In court documents, Julkowski alleges that the venue could have done more to protect patrons from poor lighting. "Therefore reducing visibility for patrons and limiting their ability to perceive, track, and avoid the oversized, lighted balls moving through the crowd; and there were no adequate warnings, instructions, or safety measures communicated to patrons regarding the presence, use, or hazards of the balls."

Julkowski is accusing Osmond of putting her life in danger. "The oversized lighted balls used during the concert were designed and intended to be thrown or propelled through the audience while illuminated, and when so used, were capable of causing injury to concertgoers upon forceful impact," according to court docs. Julkowski is suing for monetary damages of $15,000 to cover previous and future medical costs, lost wages and future wages, attorney expenses, plus punitive damages.

The search for Nancy Guthrie—the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie—is now facing internal friction.

Critics are accusing Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos of turning the high-profile case into what some are calling an “ego trip,” due to the fact that more than two weeks after Nancy disappeared from her Tucson home on February 1, no suspects have been named and no major breakthroughs have been announced.

The FBI is reportedly eager to assume control of the investigation but cannot do so unless the Guthrie family formally requests it, according to multiple law enforcement sources and outlets.

“It is a common belief in this agency that this case has become an ego case for Sheriff Nanos,” Sgt. Aaron Cross, president of the Pima County Deputies Organization, said to The Post on Thursday, February 19.

Nanos did respond to Parade's request for comment with the following statement: "Right now, our focus is on this investigation and serving the victims and this community. Internal or political commentary distracts from this active investigation, and it is very unfortunate.  My focus remains on justice and transparency."

Nanos has served as the primary public voice in the case, conducting press briefings and national interviews. But critics argue the messaging has created confusion. One law enforcement source told the outlet, “The sheriff turned a serious investigation into a rolling spectacle, from questionable decisions to shifting narratives and a disastrous media cleanup tour that raised more questions than it answered.”

They also added, “Leadership in moments like this requires discipline, not damage control.”

Tension between local and federal authorities has only intensified. A federal source told The Post that the FBI is “growing frustrated,” noting, “Over two whole weeks into this, the police have made no leads, no progress.”

And on the latex glove found during the investigation that yielded no DNA matches? The source said, “They were never confident in the glove.”

Crime enthusiasts and legal analysts like Nancy Grace have also weighed in, stressing that short tandem repeat testing is already underway. “Those STR, short tandem repeat DNA analysis are being made,” Grace said on Hannity, adding that it “shouldn’t have taken this long, as a matter of fact.” She has previously criticized reports that evidence was sent to a private lab rather than the FBI’s Quantico facility, arguing it could “risk” the case.

There's plenty of fodder around the benefits of logging 10,000 steps per day for better health. The idea is mostly the product of a myth started by some clever marketing in 1965 by Yamasa Tokei, a Japanese company selling a pedometer.

"[Getting] 10,000 steps per day isn’t necessarily a hard and fast rule to abide by," states Stephen Sheehan, CPT, a certified personal trainer with Garage Gym Reviews. "Yes, it’s a round number that can be easy to shoot for, but studies more so suggest that moving more should be the ultimate goal."

Perhaps you'd like to start running or walking a mile. It's a great place for many people to start or build on their current movement, depending on their health status and overall fitness experience.

"The benefits [of running or walking a mile] are endless. Daily physical activity provides better physical, mental and emotional health in both the short term and long term," states Sean Fortune, a New York-based run coach and founder of Central Park Coaching. "It touches every aspect of our lives."

He adds that making a daily practice of running or walking a mile can become a foundational routine with a positive ripple effect in other areas of your life, opening the door to personal transformation.

It may also help you get more daily steps. With all that in mind, how many steps are in a mile, really? Great question.

"It’s helpful to know how far you’ve actually gone as you build a running or walking routine," Fortune says. "For any form of movement to deliver lasting benefits, it has to be ongoing, and one of the most reliable ways to make something stick is to track it."

Fitness experts have done a decent amount of tracking during their careers. Here's what they have to say about the step count in a mile.

The not-clear-cut answer is: It depends. "While there is some nuance involved when calculating the exact steps in a mile, most research offers a general metric of roughly 2,500 steps," Sheehan shares.

This metric generally aligns with Fortune's experience and personal tracking of the number of steps you take per mile.

"From my research, walking a mile takes about 2,000 to 2,500 steps," he states. "Running takes fewer steps as it involves longer strides."

Fortune says people generally take 1,400 to 2,000 steps per mile when running. However, the precise number depends on other factors. He adds that step count per mile may vary based on:

• Age: Age can cause power to decline, leading to shorter stride length and more steps in a mile.
• Height: People who are taller and have longer legs have longer strides and take fewer steps per mile.
• Cadence: A higher cadence generally leads to a shorter stride length and more steps per mile.
• Terrain: Hills can decrease stride length and lead to more steps in a mile than you take on a flat road, which opens the door for longer strides.

Age, pace and stride length contribute to how many miles you can cover with 10,000 steps. However, it generally takes around 2,500 steps to walk a mile, so Sheehan did some quick math: "10,000 steps divided by 2,500 steps per mile equates to a distance of roughly 4 miles."

If you're taking fewer steps per mile because you're moving faster, you'll naturally cover more ground. "For walking, if you're averaging 2,000 steps per mile, you would conceivably cover about 5 miles," Fortune shares. "If you're running, about 7 miles."

That said, you have to keep a pretty consistent pace and stride throughout. Some people can do that. Others cannot because they may get tired. That's why the answer to questions like this one is so personal.

We hate to keep saying the same thing over and over again, but the risks and benefits of increasing steps per mile are personal to you.

"Increasing your steps per mile isn’t always a better goal, because taking more steps usually means shorter, quicker strides that can feel easier on the joints but may increase repetitive stress," states Dr. Gbolahan Okubadejo, MD, an NYC-area spinal and orthopaedic surgeon. "It’s better for bone and joint health to prioritize consistent movement that does not cause pain as opposed to increasing steps per mile."

That said, for people not dealing with or at a higher risk for bone and joint-related issues, Fortune reports that increasing your steps per mile can be a worthwhile goal to pursue. He notes that it can:

• Allows you to vary your cadence, providing contrasting movement of your body and improving fitness and mental stimulation
• Puts your body through different ranges of motion, challenging the muscles, bones and joints in different ways.
• Stimulates your heart rate, cardiovascular system and body temperature

"All good things for your body and mind," he emphasizes.

If you're concerned about your bones and joints, though, talk to your care team and get their thoughts on increasing your step count per mile.

If you have your care team's green light to increase your step count, Dr. Okubadejo says there are many safe, fun and effective ways to reach your new target. He suggests:

• Taking short walks during breaks at work or home
• Using the stairs instead of elevators whenever possible
• Parking farther away from entrances when running errands
• Walking or pacing while talking on the phone
• Walking with a friend, family member or pet to make it more enjoyable

In the early 1960s, the musical duo Flatt and Scruggs hit the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with “The Ballad of Jed Clampett.” The banjo-heavy bluegrass song, which served as the opening and closing theme to the CBSsitcomThe Beverly Hillbillies, peaked at No. 1 for three non-consecutive weeks in 1962 and 1963, per American Songwriter. It also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, a rarity for a bluegrass song.

Recorded by guitarist Lester Flatt and banjo player Earl Scruggs (with vocals by Jerry Scoggins on the TV version), “The Ballad of Jed Clampett” was released in November 1962,  two months after the premiere of The Beverly Hillbillies. The title for the song was a homage to the show’s patriarch, played by Buddy Ebsen, who struck oil on his property in the Ozark Mountains and then moved his clan to a fancy Beverly Hills mansion.

While "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" became a big hit, Scruggs’ wife and manager, Louise, almost put a stop to the project. Speaking with NPR in 2003, she recalled showrunner Paul Henning approaching Flatt and Scruggs to perform the TV theme song.

“He called and wanted Earl and Lester to do the theme music,” she said. “And I turned it down at first because of the word ‘Beverly Hillbillies.’ I didn’t know what connotation that was going to take with country people and didn’t want to offend them.”

Scruggs recalled that Henning promised her that “the premise of this show is that the Beverly Hillbillies are going to always be outsmarting the city slickers.'”

After watching the TV pilot, Scruggs agreed to let the duo record the theme song. She then had another idea. “While they were doing the theme music, I said to Perry Botkin, who was the music director at the time, ‘I think that would make a great single,'” she recalled to NPR.

“And so I called Mr. Henning, and I said, ‘What do you think if they, about them recording that for a single for Columbia Records?' And he said, ‘I think it's a great idea,'" she shared. "So I spoke to their A&R director, Mr. Don Law, who was doing their records at the time, and so they recorded it three weeks later. And then on, it was released in October, and December 8, 1962, it hit number one in Billboard [country chart]. And it was up in the pop chart too.”

The song appeared on the 1963 Flatt and Scruggs album, Hard Travelin’.

Scruggs also revealed that within a month of The Beverly Hillbillies airing, Flatt and Scruggs became booked for concert dates for a year in advance. She noted that the theme for the classic comedy series “helped country music” become more mainstream.

Beverly Hillbillies creator Henning revealed that executive producer Al Simon originally commissioned someone else to do the theme song. In an interview with The Television Academy Foundation, Henning recalled, “Al Simon had engaged a pair of well-known songwriters, and they came out to Universal and did the song for me, and I said, ‘Well, I'm sorry, but that's not what I want.’”

He noted that he had “pirated” a record of Flatt and Scruggs but told musical director Botkin he knew he couldn’t “do that on the air.” “And he said, ‘Well, why don't I go down to Nashville and have them record it?’" Henning recalled.

Henning penned the song with the help of a musical team,  and the rest is history.

Not only did they record the song, but Flatt and Scruggs made several cameos on The Beverly Hillbillies. The duo first played for the Clampetts in the 1963 Season 1 episode “Jed Throws a Wingding” and returned multiple times as friends of the family.

Thirty years after “The Ballad of Jed Clampett” topped the charts,  the song came full circle in the TV special The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies. The 1993 mockumentary-style special featured in-character appearances by original cast members Ebsen, Donna Douglas (Elly Mae Clampett), and Max Baer (Jethro Bodine). In one iconic scene, Jed Clampett even danced to his signature tune.
