There's no doubt that getting a good night's sleep is the best way to not hate your life the next day. But that's easier said than done—especially when it comes to kids and/or pets. It's taken us a while to establish a solid nighttime routine with our three kids, three cats, and two dogs, but now, everyone's catching some z's and feeling good.

In case you need a little sleepy-time inspiration, Teddy, an Orange Cat who loves bedtime, has the purrfect string of events leading up to his shut-eye. OK, so it's really just sporting the cutest footie pajamas in the whole world, but Teddy's obsessed!

I've never actually come across a cat who likes, or even allows, clothing of any kind. The internet rules! Seeing kitties like Teddy—a sweet boy who enjoys his jam-jams—allows me to live vicariously while my cats decide they'd really rather not.

As one person described the tangerine baby's reaction, Teddy is: "Very attentive. Very mindful. Very demeow," and I couldn't have said it better myself. He's not just any Orange Cat looking for trouble, but a distinguished gentleman who knows the sight of his pajamas means bedtime, and he's more than happy to oblige.

Teddy is the newest member of the family and the light of Mom's life. His feline sisters, Billie, Georgie, Phoebe, Rockie, and Mary-Kate, didn't instantly accept him, but they're all good now. Luckily, he didn't take it personally!

When "The Tedster" isn't waiting for his pajamas to get cozy, Mom has a backup plan. First, a few cuddles, followed by the blanket burrito wrap, and finally, let the relaxation set in. I guess you could say swaddling isn't only for human toddlers!

It may seem like an impossible feat to get your cat to sleep through the night so you can, too, but there's hope. As with children, it's all about routine, repetition, and patience.

Sleepopolis recommends these steps to start:

1. Make regular feedings throughout the day.
2. Provide plenty of mental stimulation during active hours.
3. Initiate playtime with a wand or "hunt" play to wear them out.
4. Reward them with treats to signal a sleep cycle.
5. Create a consistent "lights out" signal, such as wrapping them in a blanket or putting their pajamas on (like Teddy!).

The Importance of Proper Dental Care

February was National Pet Dental Health Month, and even though we’re now a week into March, dental care is a year-round responsibility every pet owner should take seriously. And if you’ve ever wondered why we can’t use our own toothpaste on our dogs, it’s because the foaming agents and chemicals that whiten and freshen our teeth can actually upset your little one's stomach.

Instead, we use enzyme-based toothpastes made for pets, which help break down tartar without upsetting their stomachs. With tasty flavors like mint and poultry generally available, it’s often the part of teeth cleaning your dog will actually enjoy. That said, not every dog will love a full brushing, but dental care is essential because the bacteria that builds up on their teeth can lead to more serious health problems down the line.

“My concern is that bacteria can cause infection and get into the bloodstream,” Dr. T tells viewers in a YouTube video. “It then flows from the mouth to vital organs like the kidneys, heart, and liver.”

How to Properly Brush Your Dog’s Teeth in 3 Simple Steps

1. Toothpaste and toothbrush: This is the first line of defense. Use toothpaste liberally and brush their teeth gently, focusing on the exterior of each row. Starting young will help your dog get used to the process, and ideally you should brush twice a day, though once a day is the gold standard or after every meal if you can.

2. Toothpaste and microfiber cloth: In addition to a good brushing, an additional wipe down with toothpaste and a microfiber cloth helps reinforce the cleanup while further freshening their breath. Simply wrap the cloth around your finger, add an enzyme-based toothpaste and gently wipe their teeth and gums clean.

3. Daily dental chew: This is the fun part. Dental chews help grind away tartar and double as a yummy snack for your dog. Your furry friend will enjoy it as a reward for getting through brushing, and it will freshen their breath and help remove any extra tartar during chewing.

Unconditional love goes both ways, and our pets deserve the best when it comes to their health and long-term care. Regular brushing is the most important thing you can do to prevent dental problems in the present and future.

If your dog’s breath stinks when they lick your face, take that as an immediate sign that tartar and bacteria are building up. And while routine dental visits aren’t always popular with pets and can be expensive, staying on top of brushing and checkups is far better than waiting years and risking extractions or infections that could lead to even more serious health problems.

My dog is turning eight this year, and somehow, she still has just as much energy as she did when she was a puppy. She is always ready to pick a play fight with one of her cat siblings, and she will chase her human sister around the yard for hours in any weather. In this video from @erniethebern on TikTok, we see exactly what happens at Ernie's house after dinner is finished: Mega zoomies, and nobody is safe, not even his lamb stuffy.

Ernie's just prancing around, throwing his lamb into the air (and he can get it surprisingly high for a dog who doesn't have hands). Sometimes, he even flings it clear across the room. That's impressive!

What really gets me about this video is how truly happy Ernie appears to be. He has a full belly and a toy to play with — what could be better?

Some Dogs Love Having Zoomies After a Meal

Zoomies (which are also known as FRAPs, or Frenetic Random Activity Periods) are both normal and adorable in dogs, and if you notice that yours likes to zoom around after dinner, toward the end of their day, you are most definitely not alone!

Having zoomies is how many dogs get their excess energy out, and night is a big time for that to happen. They're reunited with their humans again after they may have been gone at work all day, they have a second wind from the food they just ate, and that energy left over from the day has to go somewhere before they wind down for bed.

As Outward Hound points out, you'll probably notice them engaging in this behavior like Ernie does for a few minutes, and then they'll collapse, a bit depleted from all that fun, which means their mission has been accomplished!

If it helps them sleep better, what could be wrong with that? Maybe having zoomies after dinner is something that we humans need to try, too.

It only took three years for Charlie the Golden Retriever to realize that the handsome boy he's been admiring in the mirror is indeed himself. The look of shock and recognition he gives his mom when the lightbulb goes off is nothing short of perfection.

In the following TikTok, Charlie's mom says to him, "That's you in the mirror," as the pup's head swivels back and forth between her and his reflection in the full-length mirror. It finally dawns on him who he's looking at, and the moment we see his expression turn from confusion to comprehension is LOL hysterical.

With his wheels still turning, Charlie admires himself a little longer before letting out a small whine as if to say, "I don't trust that dude," and turns away.

"Are you scared of yourself?" his mom asks.

Possibly, but fans of the gorgeous Golden think otherwise:

"He is stunningly handsome, probably surprised himself," said one.

"He’s like 'omg! I’m gorgeous!!!'" agrees another.

Either way, life will never be the same for Charlie now that he's discovered a doppelgänger hanging around the house.

Are Dogs Really Self-Aware?

People often wonder whether dogs are truly self-aware — meaning they understand themselves as individuals separate from others. Traditionally, scientists have studied this using the famous mirror test, where an animal is marked with dye and given access to a mirror to see if it recognizes its own reflection. While some animals pass this test, dogs typically don’t.

But that may not mean they lack self-awareness. The mirror test relies on sight, and dogs experience the world very differently from humans. Instead of vision, their primary sense is smell. What if scientists changed the parameters to be more dog-friendly?

Researchers have explored this idea using the sniff test of self-recognition. In experiments, dogs were presented with samples of their own scent, altered versions of it, and scents from other dogs. The results showed that dogs spent more time investigating their own odor when it had been changed, suggesting they recognized it as their personal scent.

In other words, dogs may not recognize themselves in a mirror, but they seem to recognize themselves through smell. Scientists still debate whether this counts as true self-awareness, but it offers an intriguing glimpse into how dogs understand themselves and the world around them.

Anecdotally, however, we believe that Charlie did in fact recognize himself in that mirror and is still squarely on the fence about exactly how he feels about it!

We have a few dog sitters we gratefully call on when we travel. Our dogs know them well, but we had to go through an introduction process first. My Dachshund and my Pug mix are both very sensitive and need time to warm up to someone, so they spent some time with every dog sitter we've ever had before they stayed at our house.

In the TikTok from @julienashawaty, the new cat sitter named Julie walked in to find the orange-and-white cat sitting in the living room, obviously startled by this stranger entering his home.

"It's okay Aslan, I promise," she gently told the cat as he stared at her in shock.

Aslan's mouth literally hung open as he glared at her, wide-eyed with surprise. The pretty kitty was literally gobsmacked by this newcomer and the expression on his face spoke volumes. Julie tried to flatter the fur baby in the hopes of smoothing things over.

"Your perfect face is so perfect," she told him, though Aslan was unmoved. He gaped at her in utter amazement, making for quite a comical sight. His face almost seemed to say, "How dare this stranger enter my home!"

Aslan's Brother Broke the Ice

Thankfully, Aslan's kitty brother Moes wandered over to welcome the new sitter and cut the tension. Aslan relaxed a bit when he saw his sibling allow Julie to pet him. Finally, Aslan permitted her to approach him and make contact.

The flabbergasted feline let his guard down, and Julie was able to build a bridge of trust. Her gentleness and patience helped pave the way.

Followers got a kick out of the cat's reaction and noted his utter shock at Julie's arrival.

"He was too stunned to speak," one pointed out.

Puppies are the epitome of cute with their floofy coats, round bellies, giant paws too big for their bodies, and childlike wonder at their surroundings. In the TikTok from @pugdashians, two adorable Pug puppies were in a full-on battle, where neither was backing down. A blur of fluffy fur, pushed-in noses, and big paws rolled around as the precious puppies grappled on the floor.

Their coats were wrinkling as they sparred, boasting a sort of layered look in their fur. At one point, one Pug had their sibling in a headlock. The pinned pooch was able to wriggle out of the expert hold and tried running to safety. It was like watching a puppy version of Sumo wrestlers.

Apparently, the younger female pup was the dominant dog. "When your baby sister shows you who's boss... WOOF!" the caption shared.

Viewers of the video got a kick out of the commotion and noted the puppies' irresistible charm.

"They look like two cinnamon rolls fighting," one pointed out.

"I could literally watch this on repeat all day," another remarked.

"Aww those baby potatoes," a follower gushed.

Pug Puppies' Color Can Change

These adorable pooches are born with a soft tail that curls over time. Pugs have a double coat that sheds year-round and can change color with age. Puppies are born a certain shade, but the color can shift or become more defined as they get older. The most common Pug colors include fawn, silver, black, and apricot.

Since Pugs are a brachycephalic breed, they are prone to respiratory issues and need to avoid over-exertion and extreme temperatures.

When you find a stray dog, the dream scenario is that they actually have a loving family, and you've reunited them. Maybe they give you some cash for the trouble. But either way, you've done a good deed!

Unfortunately, though, life is not always a dream scenario. For one German Shepherd, being abandoned simply meant that she would need to find her rescuer again, and that's exactly what she did:

If KeeKee felt safe enough to go back to @takarebear a second time, that's a sign from the universe. That is her dog now, and luckily, she agrees. I can't imagine Keekee's joy when she ran back to that place and found that her safe person was still there. KeeKee was apparently in rough shape:

1. She was underweight.
2. There are signs of physical abuse.
3. She was neglected.

Apparently, this is the second time that poor KeeKee has been outright dumped by her previous family. The first time, they reunited, only for them to dump her again. This time, she's not going back.

Keekee's New Life

Keekee's new mom brought her in, and that's that. She will live with her forever, and Keekee is also getting some new packages from fans of hers! She has all of the toys, treats, and love she could ever need.

She also has stunning, super pointy ears, which you couldn't really see in the video. It's incredible what a little love can do:

She'll only continue to get better, too. Soon enough, she'll be so surrounded by love that she can truly start to heal.

What to Do When You Find a Dumped Dog

Unfortunately, as the weather starts heating up, there will be an increase in abandoned dogs (and pets in general). Spring is when "mating season" kicks off; after a dog has puppies, she is at risk of being abandoned.

Alternatively, if the litter was unwanted, the puppies might be dumped. Whatever the case, there are a few things you need to know:

1. If at all possible, put on gloves before you touch them, especially if you have other pets.
2. Check them for injuries/signs of illness.
3. If you cannot take them in, you need to bring them to a shelter immediately.
4. Try not to take them straight to a vet unless their circumstances are dire, if you're not planning on keeping or fostering them.

You also can't expect that they're happy and settled in right away if you do keep them: things will be rough for a while. That's okay! As Keekee proves, it's all worth it!

There are cute kittens, and then there are kittens who make you stop scrolling because something about them looks almost unreal. A Tortie Maine Coon kitten named Miso is doing exactly that, thanks to a rare eye color combination that makes her look completely mesmerizing.

The adorable clip of Miso was shared by @mainecoonmiso, and it shows her sitting in a little basket while batting at a toy. The kitten’s bio describes her perfectly as “15 weeks of pure sugar,” and honestly, that feels accurate.

Miso’s split coloring and mismatched eyes make her impossible to look away from, and viewers in the comments were immediately smitten.

Maine Coon cats are famous for being affectionate, social, and surprisingly dog-like in their personalities. They tend to follow their families from room to room, greet people at the door, and often enjoy interactive play much more than the average kitty.

Speaking from experience, my Maine Coon Meatball behaves less like a traditional cat and more like a very fluffy roommate who wants to be involved in everything happening in the house.

He’s huge, extremely affectionate, and has a strange obsession with water. He regularly splashes in his water bowl as if he’s conducting a science experiment, and then looks very pleased with himself afterward.

Maine Coons also tend to be gentle, playful, and incredibly expressive, which is why so many people fall in love with them instantly.

Have you ever watched a cat be completely mesmerized by the discovery of its own tail? Not just interested but, literally, obsessed like it's some kind of alien creature and not part of his own body. Then there's the POV: "A brain-eating bacteria would starve in his head."

Harsh but fair, according to tuxedo cat lovers in the comments.

Moggy's just sitting there minding his business when his tail does what tails do—it moves, and Moggy is suspiciously intrigued. He carefully keeps watch. Looking completely bewildered. It appears like this is brand new information for him, even though this tail has been attached to him since the day he was born.

People cannot get enough of his sweet, bewildered little expression.

"Tuxedo cats have zero brain cells," somebody announced, basically extending the orange cat no-brain-cells meme to include cats wearing fancy outfits.

"I fear the bacteria would get infected with whatever he has," took things even darker.

Tuxedo Cats Share the Same Lovable Confusion as Orange Cats

Here's the situation with Moggy. Turns out he's not special in his confusion. Apparently, a bunch of tuxedo cats have this same orange cat situation happening. Just dressed nicer while they're being confused.

Quick thing about tuxedos: not a breed. Just a color combo. Black cat, white chest and paws. That's all it is. It can happen in a variety of breeds; in Maine Coons, British Shorthairs, and it even happens in regular old mixed cats. Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind of cat you've got—if the color combo works out. Boom!  You’ve got a tuxedo.

Personality stuff? Most tuxedos are very friendly, chatty, playful, and loyal-ish. Some people believe that tuxedo cats act more like dogs than cats in the way they get so attached.

Smart? More or less like any other cat, but it depends on each cat and maybe what kind of breed they are. Wearing a tuxedo doesn't make a cat smart or dumb, just well-dressed.

When the AKC describes these earth angels as "loyal, affectionate, and regal in manner," you know you're in for a treat. Pekingese pups are one cool breed.

Having adopted multiple in my past, I can say firsthand how amazing they are. They're sweet as can be, loyal, and funny companions with a look all their own. You can spot one right away by their "smashed" faces, gorgeous, fluffy coats, and their compact size that can't hold their sparkling personalities. Better yet, they form strong bonds with their humans.

Though they love their independence (and may not be the best fit for homes with small kids), they're one of my favorite breeds, if only because they remind me of all the good times I had with my babies.

At least now, I can indulge in all the Ewok puppy content to remind me I could adopt another one (but again, don't tell my husband)!

Sphynx cats have baffled me ever since I first learned about them when I was a child. I used to think they lost all their fur, not that they were born that way! How they were able to stay warm just didn't compute to me, either.

Recently, I found out that they all have different methods. For one Sphynx cat, the best way to stay warm is to steal fur from his brother. Luckily, he's a Maine Coon, so there's plenty to go around:

Taylor Smith definitely has a problem on her hands: there are three cats here, and only two of them are snuggling. The new Sphynx kitten's name is Wrigley, and as you might assume, he was more or less supposed to be a partner for Dolly, the other Sphynx cat. There are a few problems:

1. Dolly doesn't really like kittens.
2. Dolly prefers her Main(e) Man, Bowie the Maine Coon.
3. Wrigley, the new kitten, also likes Bowie.

Poor Dolly is feeling a little cheated by the whole thing. Bowie is a nice boy, and he'll snuggle anyone. The kitten just got there first, and to be honest, he needs the snuggles more.

Seven cats and a Golden Retriever. Wrigley has a lot of options for snuggling, but Bowie is his first choice every time. That's really the main reason Dolly isn't warming up to Wrigley: he took her fluffy man!

Sphynx cats have some peach fuzz on most of their bodies, but they legitimately get cold a lot easier than furry cats. Additionally, Sphynx kittens have an even harder time keeping warm because of their size.

Luckily, these cats have been around for a long time. There are several ways you can keep a Sphynx cat warm, like:

1. Putting sweaters on them.
2. Making them blanket nests to sleep in.
3. Keeping a heating pad on low heat, then covering it with a blanket.

Sphynx cats will seek out any source of heat they can, which can be dangerous. Keep them away from the stove, the dryer, and any open flames... But if you have a big, fluffy cat, that's just what the doctor ordered!

I can absolutely relate to that kind of greeting. When I wake up, my dog Lola comes right over, sits on my chest, and wags her tail like seeing me is the greatest event on earth. It makes my heart swell every single time. There is just something about being loved that openly, before coffee, before the day gets busy, before anything stressful has a chance to creep in.

German Shepherds are some of my favorite dogs in the world. I don't have one, and I never plan on getting one, but I will always stare at them when I see them. I think they're just such amazing dogs!

Lauren and her German Shepherds live a very interesting life together. Apparently, she's been around German Shepherds for a very long time: her family has always had them. None of them has ever walked backwards until her, though.

Why Is My Dog Walking Backwards?

German Shepherds are quirky enough to do this for fun and absolutely no other reason, but that's not always the case. If you find that your dog has suddenly started backing it up for seemingly no reason, it might be that:

1. They're afraid of slipping on the floor.
2. They're afraid in general and backing away from the threat.
3. They're experiencing some kind of pain, and stepping forward makes it worse.
4. They're having a potty problem.

Plenty of dogs don't have a hard time on hard floors; mine don't! But if your dog needs a little support (or if they're just picky about the cold touching their paws), there's no shame in that!

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make your hard floors easier on your pups, even though some of them might be a little ugly:

1. Put down rugs in their frequently-traveled areas.
2. Put down foam mats.
3. Put down puppy pads.

You can also try putting booties on them to see if that helps. Narrowing down the cause of the issue is key! Additionally, always keeping their nails trimmed and in good shape will help make walking on harder surfaces more comfortable.

Isabel Klee is well-known in animal advocacy circles as a seasoned foster mom to over 30 dogs to date. Her current foster, a Shih-Tzu named Raven, is thriving under Klee's care after a recent surgery.

Klee recently found an abandoned dog near her Brooklyn home and brought him home to keep him safe. The precious pooch has been extremely sweet and polite, barely making a sound until the sight of a pizza slice caught his eye.

In the TikTok from @simonsits, the canine cutie was relaxing on the couch, looking like the picture of calm. Klee explained how the pooch has been a bit timid since he arrived at their house.

"He's been so polite and quiet until...," the text began, "we brought home pizza."

Once the little dog saw the pizza, he transformed into a vocal, assertive canine to be reckoned with as he barked in demand for a bite. Klee's fiancé, Jacob, sat on the couch as he enjoyed his pizza and seemed a bit surprised by the fur baby's outburst.

"You don't love me anymore because I won't give you pizza?" Jacob asked the defiant dog, who refused to be silenced until he had a slice.

The commotion caused Simon the Corgi mix to look up from his nap to see what was going on. Klee got a kick out of the dog's feisty personality coming to the surface.

"He's literally stewing," she laughed as the little pooch continued his demands.

"Who is this? Where did you come from?" Jacob asked in amazement at the change in the dog.

The fur baby tried several tactics to lobby for his cause. He closed in on Jacob, possibly as an intimidation strategy, then went to straight begging by standing on his hind legs.

Peace Was Restored After Pizza Was Provided

Klee encouraged her fiancé to give the pooch a piece, but Jacob waited for the pup's manners to return.

"I want to give him a piece but I don't want to reward him for being rude," Jacob explained.

Finally, Jacob relented and gave the clamoring canine a few bites. The tiny dog even tried jumping up to reach the little piece Jacob held between his fingers, happy to have achieved his goal.

"What a production," Klee remarked as their home was quiet once again.

Although French Bulldogs are instantly recognizable for their adorable bat ears and loaf-like bodies, it's their personalities that truly set them apart.

Nine the Maine Coon tried his best to be a good sport, and you can very clearly see that. Their mom is playing with a few of the kittens, and he's just sitting there... Until one of them does a little in-air spin.

Once the orange kitten lands on his face, he admittedly gets angry. His face pulls that signature grumpy face, and the fact that he has very chiseled cheekbones certainly doesn't help.
