7 Sweet Signs Your Foster Cat Feels Safe and Loved
Thinking about homeless cats is heartbreaking, but sadly there are thousands of them. Fostering a cat doesn't necessarily mean you'll end up becoming their forever home, but foster pet parents can sure make a forever impact on a feline friend. Though, knowing how your foster cat feels can be tricky because cats communicate through body language instead of words. To help you understand your furry companion better, we rounded up 7 sweet signs your foster cat feels safe and loved, according to a vet.
These foster cat bonding signs show when your cat is comfortable, happy and beginning to trust you—even if they’re shy or adjusting to a new environment. "Many cat rescues do not have a physical animal shelter, so their cats live in foster homes until permanent homes can be found," shares Dr. Julie Hunt, DVM, a veterinarian with Embrace Pet Insurance. "Assisting a rescue by fostering one or more cats helps the cat rescue to continue to function by helping cats in need of a home. Specifically, you provide the cats you foster with happy home, which is something that they may not previously have had."
When a rescue cat feels safe and content, they can learn or re-learn that humans are trusted friends rather than threats, something that fosters often need help with. Dr. Hunt shares that a few ways to help a foster kitty feel comfortable include ensuring their basic needs are met (food, water, litter box) and giving them opportunities to play with humans or other cats. However, she stresses that you'll want to have a separate room for a new foster cat, away from other kitties if you have more pets, at least at first.
Read on to discover cat behaviors that will help you know how to tell if your foster cat is happy, recognize signs your foster cat trusts you, and identify key foster cat bonding signs. You might be surprised by some of the subtle ways your foster cat shows love and comfort!

Foster cats may not have had the best start to life. Yet, noticing these sweet signs your foster cat feels safe and loved are proof that you are giving them a wonderful new beginning. These cat behaviors are all clear foster cat bonding signs. Each sign shows that your foster cat feels safe, is starting to trust you, and is gradually thriving in their foster cat adjustment period.
1. They play with you, even if it’s from under the dresserFoster cats may take a while to warm up, even to the most welcoming foster parent. Still, they may put their fears aside to play with you from their hiding space. For instance, they may bat toys back to you if you offer them to the kitty.
"When a cat is scared, one of the best ways to break through that initial fear is by offering to play with the cat," Dr. Hunt reveals. "Wand toys or strings, which keep you some distance from the fearful cat, can be particularly tempting. When a cat does start playing with you, this indicates a growing degree of comfort in your presence."
2. They enter a room you’re in and stay thereBefore a new foster cat curls up to you on a couch, they may start to show they feel safe by sitting in the same room with you, even if they keep their distance. You may notice that their desire to be near you evolves over time. This is a subtle but powerful foster cat bonding sign.
"Social cats want to be with humans, so they may follow you around the house from room to room," Dr. Hunt states. "This communicates the desire for a social bond with you."
3. They accept a brief petOf all the sweet signs your foster cat feels safe and loved, this one can signify the biggest breakthrough. In fact, when a rescued cat lets you pet them, just know it's cat bonding sign and they feel like they are part of your family.
"Cats that accept petting demonstrate comfort being close to you and being touched. This indicates that you are accepted and deemed safe," Dr. Hunt says. "Additionally, this gives you the opportunity to scratch your cat’s head, ears or chin, which are some of the most pleasant areas of the cat’s body to touch."

4. They purr at youWhat does it mean when a cat purrs? While purring can sometimes signal other things, like pain or illness, it is most often a foster cat bonding sign that indicates contentment, relaxation, and a sense of safety. "Mother cats and kittens purr while snuggling and nursing, so this demonstrates contentment and happiness," Dr. Hunt says. "Occasionally, cats will also purr when they are in pain or are very ill."
5. They eat in front of youWhat's one sign your foster cat trusts you? One of the most telling ways a foster cat shows trust is by eating in front of you. While this may seem silly, this cat behavior meaning is really sweet and shows they feel safe around you. "Very fearful cats will not come out of their hiding places to eat, and they may not eat even if their food is placed in their hiding place," Dr. Hunt points out. "Being willing to eat, especially in front of you, is an excellent sign that a cat is not excessively fearful."
6. They headbutt your handOne of the most adorable ways your foster cat shows trust and comfort is by headbutting your hand. For new foster cats or shy rescues, headbutting is a major milestone in the foster cat adjustment period. This simple gesture isn’t just cute—it’s a powerful foster cat bonding sign and a clear indicator that your cat feels safe, secure and connected to you. "A headbutt on your hand puts happy pheromones from the cat’s face onto your hand," Dr. Hunt says. "These pheromones communicate to your cat and other cats that you are safe and familiar. It also can seem like your cat may be communicating, 'Put this down and pay me some attention, human.'"
7. They let you brush themIf you’ve been wondering, “How do I know if my foster cat trusts me?” letting you brush them is one of the clearest answers. Brushing isn’t just about keeping their coat clean, it’s a bonding behavior that cats only share with those they trust. This makes it one of the most important foster cat bonding signs and a strong indicator of your cat’s comfort and trust.
"Cats commonly groom other cats that are familiar and close to them," Dr. Hunt states. "When a cat permits you to brush it, it indicates the cat’s comfort with you being close to it and communicates that the cat accepts you as a familiar and safe person."

Tiny Chihuahua Stalks Her Stuffed Elephant Like It’s Real Prey
You can take the predator out of the wild, but you cannot take the drama out of a Chihuahua because it’s what they live for. And when they’re puppies, a lot of their time is spent practicing that drama for when they need it in the real world. Even if the drama in this case is a plush elephant, they’re going to go all out, and this one puppy definitely did.
This video shows a tiny Chihuahua who is practicing the art of listening to nature and letting her instincts take over when she’s faced with an elephant, and she has some protecting to do. Yes, it’s a toy elephant, but she doesn’t know that. Take a look!

♬ original sound - Isabel │ ‘Belly’ │ Chihuahua@isabelthechi shared a TikTok video of an 8-week-old Lilac Chihuahua named Isabel (or Belly for short), who loves practicing her hunting skills and exercising, and she's chosen a very worthy practice target.
Hiding just around the corner of the couch is Isabel's archrival, Nelly, a tiny elephant plush who is playing a game of hide-and-seek with the tiny pup. Yes, we know Nelly isn't real, but the puppy has no idea, and she spots her hiding place and decides now is the best time to pounce and attack.

She's so cute that it's going to be really hard for her to look tough, but it's even cuter that she's trying, anyway. In the comments, people joked that she's acting like she's a big, giant dog who should be feared, but unfortunately for her (and fortunately for us), she's adorable and doesn't at all look like she's tough enough to take down an elephant. But don't tell her that.

Chihuahuas Have Playful and Charming PersonalitiesWatching Isabel be adorably herself is so much fun because she's so innocent and playful. It's cute to see her take on the elephant plush, and you can see her charming personality in this quick, few-second-long clip, which is typical of the Chihuahua, experts say.
According to the American Kennel Club, Chihuahuas are known for being "charming, graceful, and sassy," and Isabel is all of these things. This dog breed is known for being small in size but big in personality, and they exude a "big-dog attitude" through their loyalty and charm.
On the "affectionate with family" spectrum, the Chihuahua is close to the top of the scale, near "lovey-dovey," but not all the way there. The same goes for their playfulness and being a protective watchdog.
As Isabel continues to practice her protective skills, we're going to keep smiling as she takes on her stuffed elephant.
Missing Utah Frenchie Who Survived On Its Own For 50-Days Has 'Emotional' Reunion
Dogs are so much more than just our pets. For many of us, they are beloved family members we would do anything for. Even when we are away on trips, we miss them and wish they could come along. Many of us can't even fathom what we would do if our pups went missing.
Unfortunately, one Utah dog parent experienced the one event that we all dread when his French Bulldog went missing for a little over six weeks. Thankfully, this pup's story had a happy ending.

According to local outlet KUTV, Creed, a French bulldog who had been missing for almost seven weeks in Salt Lake County, was successfully trapped and returned to his owner.
Creed escaped from his home in Sugar House on Jan. 11th. However, he didn't just go completely MIA. Over the seven weeks he was missing, he was spotted all over town. His owner, Marcus Smith, said that it was "torture" knowing he was out there alone and in the cold.
However, the little pup was skittish and would not allow anyone to capture him. He not only evaded capture for 50 days, but he also survived the chilly winter storms. According to reports, he slept during the day and found food and shelter at night.
Local trapper Tricia Anderson mapped the locations where he was seen, totaling a six-mile radius, hoping to identify a pattern and finally catch the hide-and-seek master.

Anderson told KUTV, "He's shown us how resilient he is." While she did not share exactly how she finally trapped the evasive pup, Anderson did video the reunion with his owner.
Smith said that, despite acting like his normal self, Creed did seem a little tired and had lost a few pounds. “You could tell the moment he realized it was me, he was so happy,” Smith relayed to local outlet. “He put his paw up on the cage. It was an emotional moment.”
Reporter David Ochoa shared the heartwarming reunion video on his X account, where locals and concerned pet lovers alike were following the story. One thrilled fan writes, "Crying for happiness." While another commented, "Great news!! Thanks for letting us know."

Golden Retriever’s Concern During Newborn’s Diaper Change Is Almost Too Sweet
Anyone who has ever brought home a newborn knows that the entire house suddenly becomes very interested in every tiny sound the baby makes. Apparently, that includes the family dog.
In a sweet viral video, one Golden Retriever named Sadie seems very concerned about what exactly is happening during her human baby brother’s diaper change.

♬ original sound - amanda | First Time Mom✨TikTok user @amandabrooke01_ shared the precious clip with the caption, “Having to reassure my dog that her baby is not being harmed during a diaper change.”
The video shows Amanda changing her newborn baby boy while Sadie stands nearby, looking extremely invested in the situation. The Golden Retriever wiggles, paces, and wags her tail while keeping a very close eye on everything happening on the changing table.

Every time the baby cries, Sadie seems to get even more concerned, doing little stomps with her paws like she’s trying to make sure everything is under control.
Viewers absolutely loved Sadie’s protective energy.
“Did she just double heavy stomp?” one person wrote.
Another joked, “She’s a first-time mom, too.”
“She was like, ‘Give him HERE,’” another commenter added.
Several people pointed out that Sadie looked ready to take over the situation entirely.
“The dog waiting to make sure the baby is okay,” one viewer said.
“Her little stomp. She is not having any nonsense,” another wrote.
But one comment really captured the spirit of the moment.
“The comments have me rolling, but just in case no one has told you today, YOU’RE DOING AMAZING, AMANDA. Not only caring for your new baby’s needs but acknowledging your fur baby’s feelings, too.”
And honestly, that part hits home for a lot of parents.
As someone who has three kids, I can tell you that being a new mom is overwhelming in ways you never fully expect. You worry about everything. Is the baby eating enough? Sleeping enough? Are you doing things right? Every little cry can make your heart race.
So seeing Sadie hovering nearby like a fuzzy emotional support supervisor feels oddly relatable. She might not fully understand what a diaper change is, but she clearly knows the baby matters, and she wants to make sure everything is OK.

Bringing home a newborn can be a big adjustment for pets, especially for dogs who are used to getting most of the attention in the house.
Experts recommend introducing your dog to the baby slowly and calmly. Let them observe from a comfortable distance at first so they can get used to the new sounds and smells. Reward calm behavior with praise and treats so they begin to associate the baby with positive experiences.
It can also help to maintain your pet’s routine as much as possible. Regular walks, playtime, and affection help reassure them that they are still an important part of the family.
Most dogs, especially gentle breeds like Golden Retrievers, adapt beautifully to the new addition and often become incredibly protective companions for the baby.
Judging by Sadie’s very serious diaper change supervision, this little boy already has a loyal guardian looking out for him.

Toothless Tabby Cat With 'Fishbowl Eyes' Is the Prettiest Princess in All the Land
Any pet orbiting my universe is getting straight As for being cute, sweet, and all the things that make me go "aww." This includes all the amazing pets who I've been lucky enough to see on the World Wide Web, so thank you, internet gods, because you're doing something right.
One such girl I'm obsessed with is Gumbus, a toothless Tabby cat whose transformation over the years has taken on a life of its own. Born a typical kitten, this little lady now has all the makings of a Pixar character in the very best way.

The precious Tabby cat can't be categorized. She has no boxes to check, and she's all green flags like a limitless ball of happy-making stardust. Her mom has even coined Gumbus' own language with words like "jemotions" and nothing has ever made more sense in my entire life.

♬ Sweet Disposition FeelingBlew - Feelingblew What Caused Gumbus' Eye Condition? As I mentioned, Gumbus had a pretty normal look as a 4-month-old rescue kitten. As she grew older, she started having dental issues that required teeth removal, followed by a necessary eye surgery that resulted in her galaxy-sized peepers. All of this stems from contracting the very contagious Giardia, which affected her eyesight, teeth, and overall health.
This little fighter also has a cleft lip, early glaucoma, and a cherry eye, which she's at risk for losing despite all the treatments and surgeries. You wouldn't know it by looking at her, because she's the sweetest girl who's happy to be alive.

Golden Retriever’s Fuzzy Head and Tiny Ears Deserve Their Own Fan Club
It’s pretty safe to say that most Golden Retrievers are cute, but some of them are accidentally iconic with a special feature or look that helps them stand out. The features of a Golden Retriever make them very easy to love with their kind eyes, soft, long fur, and big eyes. But once in a while, you might come across one who stands out from the rest, with one doggy’s perfectly rounded, fuzzy head creating a side profile so ridiculously sweet.
This video captures that precious Golden profile in all his fluffy glory. And it’s the kind of face that will make you pause mid-scroll since it’s almost too much cuteness in one frame. A fan club feels not only appropriate, but very necessary, so take a look!
@theorlandogoldensshis side profile is so 😍 #goldenretriever #dogsoftiktok #goldenretrieverlife #dogs
♬ Beach baby - Amber RoughtTikToker @theorlandogoldenss shared a video of an adorable Golden Retriever named Dexter, who is still just a baby, and everything about a young dog is ridiculously cute. Yes, even something so small you'd only see in the sunlight.
Dexter still being a pup means his coat is a little fuzzy, and because of that, the small hairs at the very top of his head can be faintly seen when you're looking at him from the side.

In this clip, his mom admires how cute he looks from the side profile and notices the sweet little hairs that stick up. It's insanely cute, and imagine how much we would miss out on if we didn't take the time to look at the small but mighty features on our pups.
In the comments, others showered Dexter with love and affection, too, writing things like "He’s so handsome," and "Oh my love."

How Big Do Golden Retrievers Get When Fully Grown?Dexter, with his puppy fuzzy head, is such a cute feature that it's hard to think about the frizzy fuzz being gone someday. And that will probably be when he reaches adulthood, which isn't that long in the whole scheme of life, according to the experts.
The American Kennel Club says that Golden Retrievers are medium-sized dogs, and when fully grown, they can weigh anywhere from 65 pounds for a fully grown female to 75 pounds for a fully grown male. They're pretty in the middle for their height, too, with girls reaching up to 22.5 inches and boys up to 24 inches. They do a lot of their growing in the first two years of life, but their personalities keep them young at heart for much longer than that.
As far as how long sweet Dexter will have his fuzzy head coat, that's more individual, and maybe they're the lucky ones, and the cute hairs will stay shining in the sunlight forever.
Pit Bull Gets the Cutest Case of the Wiggles the Minute He Realizes Dad's Home
Coming home after a long trip is already an amazing feeling. But coming home to a furry baby who's been counting down the minutes and literally can not control his excitement when he finally spots you? That's a different level entirely.
Meet Gilbert the Pit Bull. His friends call him Gilbs. And his wiggle bottom is about to wreck you emotionally in the best way.
There's this sweet TikTok of Gilbs posted up in a chair, watching through the window, and desperately waiting. His beloved dad has been traveling for a few days, when a car arrives. First, the luggage appears from the trunk and then Dad appears.
Gilbs is overcome with emotion.

What happens next is absolute pure joy. There’s no other way to describe it. His little tail kicks into high gear. Then his entire back half joins in. The cutest little wiggle starts to take over. His excitement can not be contained. His joy is too big to hold inside. This is what it looks like when someone loves you with zero conditions attached.
Comments came pouring in from people who couldn't handle it.
"Humans don't deserve dogs," wrote somebody expressing the universal truth.
Someone went much deeper: "Behind the scenes just goes to show you how much our pets really love us!!"

This one hit different: "To have love to come home to is the greatest wealth in the world."
Watching Gilbs’ waiting patiently and then absolutely losing every single bit of self-control the instant he spots his dad? That's what unfiltered, unconditional looks like.
Pit Bulls Show Extreme Loyalty and Form Deep Bonds With Their FamiliesEver wonder what your dog was thinking? Every day, I wish there were an actual dog translator, so we could understand their needs. Can you just imagine the pure joy going through Gilbs' head when he sees his dad? Scientists have actually looked into this.
When dogs catch their people's scent, it literally lights up the reward center in their brains. This means they're not just excited because "yay, the food provider has returned." They’re 100% genuinely happy from the social connection itself. He missed his daddy.
Researchers have measured this stuff. Interestingly, how long you've been away from your dog directly impacts how they react when you return. Were you only gone for a couple of hours? Doesn’t matter, they're excited. Gone for two days? They go absolutely wild with the greeting—tail wagging, body shaking, all of it.
Gone for a week like Gilbs' dad? That wiggle bottom definitely tracks.
It’s so sweet, dogs actually register the time you're apart. While you're gone for the day, most of them simply... exist. There’s no joy. They sleep a lot. Wait around for something to happen. Some dogs won't even eat until their person comes back—either because being alone makes them anxious or because they've learned that meals are something you do together.
When you finally return home? Everything they've been bottling up explodes out.

That's why Gilbs' tail starts going wild before his dad even gets in the house. Then the wiggling escalates. His whole body's involved now. Sitting still is impossible at this point. There's just too much excitement at once.
Pit bulls get incredibly attached to their families. That loyalty runs deep. Gilbs waiting patiently for a week and then having a complete meltdown when dad finally appears? That's standard pibble programming.
The wiggle bottom translates roughly to "I missed you desperately and I'm ecstatic you're here. Please never leave me again."
Got it, Gilbs. Loud and clear.
Husky Turning New Rescue Puppy Sibling Into a 'Movie Buff' Couldn't Be Sweeter
It's a pretty interesting thing to witness your dog choosing a hobby, especially when it's not exactly a "dog" type of thing. My pups don't really have strange interests, unless you count my Corgi constantly herding our kids.

Penelopii the Husky—aka "Penelly Watches Telly"—is beloved for her movie time, and now, she has a student in class: an adorable new rescue puppy named Piippo!
Close-up of a Husky's blue eyes. The fact that Penelly not only sits still while watching the movie, but also seems to understand what she's watching, is pretty incredible. Dogs are smart—that much we know—but the reaction this sweet Husky has to her movies is so much more.

Experts explain the lower rate meant dogs could only see lines and were less interested in whatever was on. With today's technology and faster rates, more and more pups are finding this form of entertainment pretty captivating.
Studies have shown that those pups who do like watching TV might enjoy it for only a short time (1 to 5 minutes), and they likely prefer watching other animals or inanimate objects, as opposed to humans. Likewise, there's a reason Bluey is so popular—the vivid colors are ones our dogs can see, making it a real experience. Though Penelopii might have a few suggestions on something better!

This Dog's Cozy Corner Might Be the Most Adorable Decorating Idea Ever
Many pet parents nowadays treat their dogs as family. We buy them clothes, we make sure they eat the highest-quality food, sometimes even food that is healthier than what we put on the table for us, and more. But there are still ways we can go up.
One dog mom showed us you can turn your home into a true dog-friendly environment. Yes, some dogs have their own rooms, but what about a special dog corner in the room you spend most of the time in?
That is what this dog mom did, by designing a tiny dog corner in her home. Now, it is the cutest spot in the entire home.
@thedowntownalyThe perfect little dog corner!! you can find everything in this video on my profile. #dogcorner
♬ It's My House - Diana RossWhen you look at how she designed it, it is not extravagant. It is thoughtful. Every piece has a story and a purpose. Think of it like a shrine for your pup!

How Did the Internet React?Turns out, a lot of people have custom corners for their pets—some for their dogs, others for their cats. "Yours is super cute! This is mine lol," said one person. "Love it. Made one for my dogs a few months back," shared another. They also shared pictures of their designated corner.
And then there were pet parents who created one for their cats, saying, "This is absolutely adorable. I am going to do this for my cats," and "I have one like that for my cat but I have a little sign that says it's her restaurant. And I have sparkly lights."

Why Does Your Dog Deserve a Dedicated CornerThe transition from "owning a pet" to "living with a family member" usually happens quietly. Nowadays, dogs are integrated into our emotional lives. The physical space they occupy should be more than a crate tucked into a drafty laundry room.
A dedicated dog corner is a recognition of their status as a permanent resident. Most modern homes are designed for humans, with high counters and furniture that requires an invitation.
By designing a specific corner with dog-friendly accessories, you give your dog a sense of territorial security. It becomes their space in a house full of boundaries. Walk through your house today and look for the "dead space" under a staircase or a quiet corner in the den. That small patch of floor is the perfect place to build a sanctuary for the dog who asks for nothing but your company.

Golden Retriever Unlocking New Trick Is Both Impressive and Satisfying
Nash's human said to "trust the process," and we're sure glad we did because the payoff is everything.
The clever Golden Retriever is impressing viewers after learning a tricky new skill. In the adorable video documenting his training, the patient pup figures out how to catapult a treat toward himself using a spatula — and the moment it finally works is incredibly satisfying.
Nash starts his lesson clearly incredulous, giving the camera a skeptical head tilt. It's priceless, and as one viewer commented, "THE HEAD TILT AT THE BEGINNING SENT ME."
He paws the spatula for a while, then learns how to maneuver it (earning mini rewards along the way), but not yet using it to launch any goodies toward him. Curious cats wander in and out of the frame with the potential to distract Nash, but the determined dog remains locked in. After failed attempts at catapulting treat after treat, Nash finally succeeds in directing one into his mouth, and the result is beyond gratifying -- for us, especially!

"I fear this would take me 6 months to learn!" Same.
What are the keys to teaching a dog a trick as seemingly complex as the one Nash has mastered?

Teaching an Old -- or Young -- Dog New TricksTeaching your dog tricks isn’t just about showing off — it’s actually a great way to strengthen your bond and give your dog important mental stimulation.
Dogs learn through association and repetition, which is why positive reinforcement works so well. When a dog performs a behavior and immediately receives something rewarding — like a treat, praise, or a toy — they’re more likely to repeat it. Many trainers use techniques like shaping (rewarding small steps toward a behavior) to help dogs gradually learn more complex tricks. Nash's human used a similar step-wise method to teach him his sophisticated skill.
Short, upbeat sessions work best. Most dogs learn better with 5–10 minute practice periods a few times a day rather than long lessons that lead to frustration or boredom.
Before jumping into fun tricks, it helps if your dog already understands basic commands like sit, stay, and come. These provide a foundation that makes training easier.
Ultimately, trick training isn’t just about skills — it builds confidence, keeps dogs mentally engaged, and creates more positive interaction between you and your pup.
TikTok could use more positive interaction between all of us, that's for sure. I, for one, hope to see more of Nash and his roster of tricks in the future.

Ever Wonder Why Your Dog Is So Protective or Sweet? Their Coat Color Could Be the Clue
You have probably noticed the patterns of behavior. A black dog at the park who stays close and watches everything. Or a golden who greets strangers like they are long-lost friends. Then there is a white dog who prefers one person and makes that clear.
When it comes to dogs, we often talk about breeds, training, and early socialization. But according to one doctor, coat color might be even more important. Coat color is one of the first things we notice, and for some dogs, it aligns closely with the role they settle into in our lives.
The most common dog coat colors worldwide are black, brown, golden, white, gray and various mixes of those shades.
@dr.morgan.dog.careThe SPIRITUAL meaning behind your DOG’s COLOR 🐶😮 #dogs #doglovers #dogcare #dogmom #viral
♬ Originalton - user04863098572If we look back at history and what some of these dogs were bred to do, it makes sense. For example, a white livestock guardian had to blend in with sheep and stay alert. A dark-coated working dog had to patrol, guard, or track.

How Did the Internet React?Of course, every rule has its exceptions. And judging by the comments on this one, there are quite a few. For example, several people talked about white dogs, which, in theory, are supposed to calm anxiety. But based on some of the experiences of pet parents, that is not the case. "Should I tell my white dog? Bc she's CRAZY," shared one commenter, while another added, "My white dog has more anxiety than I do."
And black dogs are not always the protectors. One woman said, "I have a black dog and she's scared of everything but she's a rescue so I'm not sure what went on with her before me."

What Color Is Your Dog?Here is what Dr. Morgan has to say about coat colors.
Black dogs are protectors; they are deeply bonded, hyper-aware and naturally alert to danger.
Golden and orange dogs are emotional lifters. They bring warmth, joy and balance. When tension fills a room, they soften it without trying.
White dogs are calm keepers; they regulate anxiety, stick close when emotions run high, and help restore routine when life feels chaotic.
Brown is a tabby family anchor. They bond tightly with children, sense conflict early and instinctively place themselves between loved ones to stabilize the energy.
She also has some thoughts on two-color dogs, merle and more coat colorings. Look at your dog tonight. Notice where they choose to lie down. Notice who they watch. Their coat color may not control who they are, but it often tells part of the story about the role they are trying to play in your life.

Dog’s Overjoyed Reunion With Mom After Being Left at Shelter Is Unforgettable
Sometimes the internet delivers something that makes you laugh, sometimes something that makes you cry, and occasionally something that makes you want to track down a stranger and have a very serious conversation about their life choices. Up first. For the ex-partner who quietly surrendered this woman’s dog to a shelter without telling her, there are definitely some questions.
Thankfully, this story has a very different ending than it could have. When a Labrador named Banjo realized the person waiting on the bench at the shelter was his mom, the reunion that followed was pure, unfiltered joy. You may need to grab the Kleenex for this one.

The shelter worker leads Banjo into the room on a leash, and for a split second, he’s just calmly walking along. Then he spots Sarah sitting on a bench.
It takes about half a second for the realization to hit.

Banjo instantly goes full Labrador mode, with frantic tail wags, jumping, licking, and the kind of excited spinning that only a dog who has found his person again can pull off. His entire body looks like it might vibrate right off the ground.
Viewers in the comments were just as emotional watching the reunion unfold.
“I told y’all this was a mistake for me to be here, you just had to call my mom,” one person joked.
Another commenter shared a surprisingly heartwarming twist from their own life: “My ex-husband threatened to bring our dogs to the shelter. I was crying about it at the restaurant I worked at, and a customer offered to foster them until I figured things out. I am married to that customer now.”
A shelter worker chimed in with a reality check that made the story hit even harder. “As a shelter worker, this happens way more than you would ever believe. It’s so heartbreaking.”

♬ original sound - sarah & banjo :)In a follow-up video, Sarah explained the complicated backstory behind Banjo ending up at the shelter in the first place.
She helped raise Banjo from the time he was a puppy. When she and her ex split up, Banjo ended up staying with him for a while, but the situation quickly became unstable. At one point, he was living in a car with Banjo and another dog.
Eventually, he told Sarah that Banjo was having behavioral issues and threatened to surrender him to a shelter.
Sarah made it very clear what she wanted if that ever happened. She told him directly that if he planned to give Banjo up, she would gladly take him back.
Unfortunately, he never told her when he actually went through with it.
Sarah only discovered what had happened when she went to remove her ex from the “Find My Friends” feature on her phone and noticed that he was at an animal shelter.
Realizing what might be happening, she contacted the shelter immediately. The staff placed a hold on Banjo, so he wouldn’t be adopted out while she made the trip.
Sarah took a day off work and drove eight hours round-trip to bring Banjo home. Her best friend even paid the adoption fee so Banjo could officially return to his family.
As one commenter put it, “He did you a big favor showing you who he really was. Now go live your best life with Banjo.”
How Banjo Is Doing Now @sarah..haReplying to @Ansley 🌎 in the outdoors i guess my page is now dedicated to banjo!
♬ original sound - ✶𝓵𝓸𝓾𝓲𝓼𝓮✶Thankfully, Banjo’s story doesn’t end at the shelter.
In another video shared by Sarah, Banjo is back home and clearly thriving. The sweet clip shows him happily playing on the bed, chasing his tail, running outside, and soaking up affection from his mom while the song “Landslide” plays in the background. I'm not crying, you're crying!
Instead of a stressful shelter environment, Banjo now gets to enjoy the kind of life every dog deserves: a safe home, plenty of playtime, and a person who clearly loves him very much.
After everything he went through, it’s pretty clear Banjo knows he’s exactly where he belongs. We are so happy that Sarah and Banjo are reunited, and we wish them a long, happy life full of love, fun walks, tail wags, and all the joy of being together.

You Can Now Give Your Dog a Pup Cup Anytime Thanks to This Target Find

If you’ve ever taken your dog through a Starbucks drive-thru, you’ve probably seen their excitement when the barista hands over a pup cup. That tiny cup of whipped cream has developed an almost cult-like following among dog parents and their pups.
However, traditional drive-thru pup cups aren’t something dogs should enjoy too often. They’re usually made with sweetened canned whipped cream, which can be high in sugar and calories—less than ideal for dogs, especially those with certain health issues.

If you’re looking for a healthier way to recreate the pup cup experience, Target is selling a PupCup! Dog Whipped Cream Dog Treat, a tasty whip made specifically for dogs.
PupCup! Dog Whipped Cream Dog Treat in Peanut Butter Flavor, $6.99 at Target PupCup! Dog Whipped Cream Peanut Butter Flavor Dog TreatTarget
The treat comes in a spray-style can, just like regular whipped cream, and it's available in peanut butter and bacon flavors. It's made with skim milk and cream, and contains no added sugars.
The spray-can design and whipped texture makes it easy to serve, whether you’re adding a little swirl on top of your dog’s food, letting them enjoy a small dollop straight from the nozzle or putting it in a cup in true pup cup fashion. It can also be used to fill stuffable enrichment toys.

What Pet Parents Are SayingDog parents say their pups love this treat and seem to recognize exactly what’s happening when the can comes out.
“My dog runs to the fridge when I say ‘pup cup,’” one reviewer wrote on the product page. “He’s been loving the whipped cream!”
Another reviewer shared, “My friend gave this as a gift to our dog Rufus on his birthday. He smelled it as soon as the cap came off and dove for it.”
One pet parent said the treat even helped solve a mealtime challenge. “This has made my very picky doodle eat her food each meal,” they wrote. “We also use it to hide medication.”
Several reviewers also said the product seems thoughtfully formulated. One person who tried it themselves said it tasted like a lightly milky base without added sweetness, which they appreciated for a dog treat.
A Gentle Reminder About Dog TreatsEven though this pup cup alternative is designed with dogs in mind, it’s still important to keep portions in check.
Veterinarians generally recommend that treats make up no more than about 10 percent of a dog’s daily calories. The rest should come from a complete and balanced diet. Too many extras—even healthier ones—can add unnecessary calories over time.
For dog parents whose pups go wild for those famous drive-thru pup cups, this Target find could be an easy way to bring the fun home—no car ride required.

One buyer writes on Amazon: "I purchased two ... One is for an outdoor stray, whom I've been feeding ... I got the other pad for my own baby, for his window seat. The pads are also light as feathers, despite having a rather plush appearance."

Arizona's Reid Park Zoo's Baby Giraffe is the Perfect Mix of His Parents
With spring on the horizon, everything fresh and new is welcomed with open arms. We love seeing blooms, greenery and new life pop up all around, pulling us out of the cold of winter.
Personally, I love seeing all the baby animals pop up in droves, especially those at zoos across the country. Arizona's Reid Park Zoo in Tucson recently announced a new addition to its reticulated giraffe habitat: a calf.

Baby Giraffe is an Adorable Addition to Reid Park ZooArizona may not be a giraffe's natural home, but the Reid Park Zoo has made a lovely habitat for its resident pair. Recently, the giraffes Penelope and Jasiri welcomed a not-so-little bundle of joy on Feb. 23, raising hopes of growing the species' population.
“The new calf was born at 4:10 p.m. on Monday, was standing a little over an hour after his birth, and nursing shortly after that. That is exactly where we wanted him to be,” said Adam Ramsey, Director of Animal Care, in a press release.
Both mom and baby are doing well and have moved on to bonding in private. So visitors shouldn't expect to see them just yet, and the zoo doesn't have a plan for when they will be gracing the main habitat. Ramsey said they are waiting for cues from the calf and his mom to "guide that decision."

Penny is a part of the Species Survival Plan, along with Jasiri. The calf isn't the duo's first contribution to furthering their species. Their first calf, Moyo, was sent to another zoo last year, where Moyo will also be a part of the SSP, helping to grow their species.
“As an accredited zoo, we work very closely with the SSPs for the species that call Reid Park Zoo home. It helps to ensure the longevity and health of our animals and their future generations,” Ramsey said. “Penny was wonderful and attentive as a first-time mom, and she has been immediately attentive to her newborn calf. She has been grooming him, being patient while he’s nursing, and is aware of where he is at all times.”
While the calf may weigh 180 pounds and stand 6 feet tall, his most notable distinction is that his pattern resembles his father's, while his spots closely resemble his mother's, with chestnut patches and thin white outlines.

Giraffe Population DeclineConservation efforts are imperative due to the decline of giraffes in the wild. According to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, African giraffe populations are estimated to be 140,000. Though that number includes all four giraffe species, and three of those are critically threatened and in need of fervent efforts.
The four species are the Masai giraffe, Northern giraffe, Southern giraffe, and the reticulated giraffe, which is the same species as Reid Park Zoo's newest baby. Unfortunately, the little calf's species is among the three facing an imminent threat to its natural habitat. The giraffes are typically found in Kenya, with some scattered in Somalia and Ethiopia.
But over the past 35 years, the population has dropped 35 percent, leaving around 20,900 left in the wild. The animals were added to the IUCN Red List as endangered in 2018 due to their jarring decline. While Kenya's government works to preserve the African population, accredited zoos work together to implement the SSP and grow their own populations, ensuring the species' survival.
Proud Newfoundland Showing Off His Fresh Haircut Looks Like a Canine Tom Cruise
Haircut day can be a big one for a lot of dogs out there. Some truly love all of the pampering and the undivided attention... and some would rather do anything besides go to the groomer. There usually isn't much in between (or at least, that's what I've gathered between all the dogs I've raised and known over the years).
But in the end, many dogs are happy to show off how dapper they look with a fresh haircut, and the Newfoundland in the TikTok video below is most certainly one of them.

The comments were flooded with compliments from Homer's fans, letting him know just how good he looks. One person wrote, "I’m thinking maybe a top hat and a monocle, he would then be a very dapper gentleman," and I absolutely agree.

Grooming a NewfoundlandIt's true that Newfoundlands do have a lot of fur, but the good news is that keeping them professionally groomed isn't going to take over your entire life.
Groomers Professional recommends bringing your pup to the salon about every six to eight weeks, but in between, you should be brushing them at home, typically once a week to avoid them having skin issues or matted fur due to how quickly they do shed.
The site also points out that even in the summer, you don't want to shave your Newfoundland, since their coats are actually what regulates their body temperature and helps them stay cool when it's hot outside.
It's not just their fur you should be taking care of, though — they will also need regular nail clipping done (either by a professional or a parent) so that they can stay healthy and on their feet without discomfort.

Huge Great Dane Becomes Tiny Cat Sibling's Loyal Protector, and the Love Is Too Pure
Finn, the massive Great Dane, is back and melting hearts for the unexpectedly tender bond he has formed with his tiny cat sibling. Despite their comical size difference, the gentle giant and the family cat, Art, have become besties with Finn acting as the feline's self-appointed bodyguard.
Art might be in for a surprise, however, regarding Finn's abilities to protect him against their mutual Pomeranian brother, whom we met in a previous video. The towering - and cowering - Great Dane is terrified of the petite Pom, so it might be Art who is called upon to defend Finn and not the other way around.
But we are definitely taken with this duo's deep connection and love that sweet Finn has found an ally in the equally lovable Art.

♬ Ladyfingers - piano version - Harry Nicholson Inter-Species Frienships and Why We Love ThemIf it feels like the internet can’t get enough of unlikely animal friendships, there’s actually a psychological reason why we love these stories so much. I, for one, am smitten with them, too.
First, animals are capable of forming strong social bonds with their own species, and sometimes those instincts extend across species lines. When we see animals cuddling, grooming, or playing together, the behavior mirrors the same social bonding signals we recognize in humans.
But the real reason these videos resonate with people goes deeper. Seeing animals connect helps us feel more connected to the natural world ourselves, which research shows can boost happiness and well-being.
Related: Sweet Cat Lovingly Comforts Terrier Mix Sibling After Surgery Like the Best Little Nurse
There’s also the element of surprise. Our brains are wired to categorize the world — dogs chase cats, cats chase birds. When we see animals breaking those “rules,” it sparks curiosity and even releases feel-good brain chemicals linked to pleasant surprises.
Finally, these friendships tap into something hopeful. Watching different species peacefully coexist reflects a human desire for harmony — the idea that differences don’t have to mean conflict.
In other words, those viral animal friendships aren’t just cute. They remind us of the possibility of connection, cooperation, and kindness — even in the most unexpected places.

Pets Are Obsessed With Walmart’s $36 Luxurious Ultra-Soft Sofa Bed
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Somehow, Winnie’s birthday is quickly coming up. I cannot believe that my best friend, this energetic Jack Russell, turns 4 in May. Where has the time gone!? It feels like only yesterday that she wanted my approval and permission to sit on the couch or the bed on her first night living with me.
Of course, Winnie still spends time with me on the furniture, but she also loves having her own space. Between the bed she’s made for herself in my bedroom closet and her traditional bed, which typically sits in the living room, Winnie has figured out how to be as comfortable as possible.
With all of that said, an upgraded dog bed sounds like a perfect birthday gift. I get the sense that Walmart feels the same way, seeing as the best-selling Ophanie luxury sofa-style pet bed is on sale for nearly 50% off, plus free shipping and three colors to choose from.
That sound you hear is Winnie loudly — and quite loudly, at that — telling me to take advantage of this $36 flash deal.
Reviews: What Buyers Say About This 'Ultra-Soft' BedThis luxurious-looking bed has a 4.6-star (out of 5.0) rating on Walmart, with 82% of the 3,000 reviewers leaving a five-star rating.
Many cite its comfort, price, and ease of cleaning the bed. A significant number of pet parents also praised the bed’s accessibility and reliability for older pets or those with health issues.
Check out what a few of those past buyers have said:
- “My Prince Kobe is an older larger Belgium Malios dog who happens to be blind; and he loves this bed! When he first got it — he put himself on it and he stayed enjoying the comfort for a good 24 hours before he finally went to go do something else.”
- “She laid on it before we even put it together. Gives her enough height that she can see out the window when her head is on the raised edge.”
- “I am picky when it comes to purchasing dog beds at the store — this one is it!!”
Courtesy of Walmart
What Else to KnowDo you like what you’ve heard so far? I know I do, and I guarantee that Winnie will be ecstatic once she starts reading about this dog bed.
Here’s what else you need to know before you buy:
- Size: The dog bed is sized at 35“ by 28” by 6” (L x W x H), meaning that it’s a perfect fit for your best friend, regardless of how much they weigh. Winnie is roughly 24 pounds, so she’ll have more than enough room. Even Karma, who was typically around 30 pounds, would’ve had no issues here.
- Comfy and Cozy: Ophanie has done everything possible to make the ideal dog bed, including a soft fleece interior, plush side bolsters, and orthopedic support. Also: the bed has a fully waterproof inner lining in case of an accident.
- Colors: Walmart currently offers the dog bed in three colors: brown, gray, and green. Personally, I love the gray.
The Bottom Line: As much as Winnie loves her current setup, both in the bedroom and the living room, I’m confident that she’s going to fall in love with the Ophanie dog bed. She might not be able to have cake for her birthday, though this should suffice as an A-grade gift.
