I never grew up with dogs, which is exactly why I couldn't wait for my kids to have the experience. As loyal companions to the very end, there's no greater friend a kid can have than a precious pup. Even more, dogs seem to understand they have a real purpose to serve and protect those little ones.

For one crew of Newfoundlands, being there for their human siblings is their number one job. Whether they're moral support, guarding them from danger, or hanging out for a reading session, there's a reason these gentle giants are known as the original Nanny Dogs!

Some dogs see foster puppies and think, new friends. One Golden Retriever apparently saw a whole litter of tiny Pugs and thought, these are my children now. In the video, we see her watching over the little Pug babies with the kind of focus and softness you would expect from the proudest mama in the room.

It is impossible not to melt watching a dog pour that much tenderness into such tiny little creatures. She has that gentle, hovering energy that says she is not just visiting the nursery, she is running it. She looks fascinated and fully convinced that these puppies belong under her supervision at all times.

Meanwhile, my dog Lola would have had feathers flying by now, or at the very least, she would have been loudly announcing herself like the world’s most dramatic hall monitor. She, on the other hand, is all calm eyes and quiet devotion.

When an adult dog becomes deeply attached to puppies, it can be adorable, but it still helps to supervise every interaction and make sure the older dog gets breaks. The AKC notes that while adult dogs can help puppies learn appropriate behavior, people should not rely on the older dog to do all the work, and positive interactions should be carefully managed over time.

That balance matters because puppies are still learning social skills, and adult dogs need space too. In the TikTok from @nalaandlucy, the precious puppy's mom held her up to the camera to point out Lucy's "signature look".

"When we first got Lucy, her tiny little tongue was always poking out," the pup's mother shared in the video. "It was the cutest thing, like, just this little pink nub out all the time."

At first, Lucy's mom assumed this was part of Lucy's puppyhood development and in time, she'd learn proper tongue muscle control.

Lucy's gone through some initial development stages, yet her tongue is still completely visible.

"Here we are, and Lucy is coming up on 6 months old, and the tongue is still out," her mom revealed. "At this point, I don't think she's figuring it out."

Many dogs aren't able to fully retract their tongue even when their mouth is closed, resulting in Hanging Tongue Syndrome. Brachycephalic breeds like Pugs and French Bulldogs are prone to the condition. Dental problems, abnormal anatomy, neurological conditions, or a previous injury can also cause this issue.

Hanging Tongue Syndrome isn't dangerous and doesn't require treatment. If your dog has this issue, make sure they are properly hydrated so their tongue doesn't become cracked or too dry.

This dog, whose name is Pretzel, seemingly has never forgotten what the days of a quiet house might look like with any other family. Before the baby was here, he wasn't messed with... but now, he's laying down a hard boundary.

"POV: You told the baby don't touch the foot and the dog meant it," their mom wrote in the video.

Sure enough, this baby will not give up on his relentless pursuit to touch the dog's foot, even though he knows it's against the rules, and even though the dog keeps moving his foot away so it's just out of the baby's reach.

It's the look that Pretzel gives his mom in the middle of all of this that really gets me, though. He simply cannot believe this baby does not follow instructions!

It's important to set boundaries between babies and small children and the pets of the household in order to keep everyone safe (and to keep the peace under your own roof).

Sometimes, that means teaching your babies what not to do around pets (like touching the dog's feet), and other times, it means making sure that your two biggest troublemakers aren't left unsupervised.

Babies don't know any better, and if they're anything like my daughter was, they will immediately see tails as something they should pull on. It can take some time to really nail a boundary like that, but in the end, it's totally worth the effort.

It's so important for babies and dogs to respect each other. Those who do usually end up being the best of friends.

According to what dog trainer Kate Naito told the American Kennel Club (AKC), the earlier you start training your dog, the better — the first few months of their lives are the best time for them to learn and to cement good habits. So if you adopt a dog at around eight weeks old like many people do, you can get started with training right away.

“If a puppy learns not to trust humans—maybe because they yell and punish, steal his food dish to establish dominance, or force him into scary situations—you will have an uphill battle teaching life skills later on,” Naito said.

Naito suggests keeping it simple at first, starting with commands like "sit" using plenty of positive enforcement, and you can build on their skills from there. Before you know it, your puppy will be a total pro.

Sometimes you meet someone at their job and immediately you just know, this person was absolutely meant to do this job. In fact, it's more than a job; it's a calling. That's Dr. Nicole Fein with literally any animal, but especially with Cornelia the Pit Bull.

There's a TikTok going around from Dr. Fein's veterinarian office where Cornelia comes walking in limping, while wearing the most adorable little strawberry dress. What happens next is basically a masterclass in how all veterinarians should interact with all patients. She's that good. Honestly, Dr. Fein should set the standard.

Then, the most heartwarming moment of the visit that completely captured everyone's hearts. Dr. Fein looks directly at Cornelia and says: "I love a Pitbull. I just love a Pitbull. Anyone who says you're scary is stupid. You're perfect."

Dr. Fein's interaction with Cornelia isn't just sweet—it's actually backed by what pit bulls were historically bred for. According to the ASPCA, many pit bulls were specifically bred for companionship, noted for their gentleness, affection and loyalty as family pets.

The "scary dog" reputation? It's absolutely not true at all. They are like all dogs, a product of their nurturing. Pit bulls bred for work were never supposed to be aggressive toward people. In fact, dogs that showed human aggression were specifically not bred because they needed to be handled often by people.

The behavior that Cornelia's exhibiting in this video, kisses, lap-climbing, and a general love-fest, that's actually typical pittie behavior. They're extremely affectionate dogs who often think they're lap-sized regardless of their actual size.

The TikTok's a reminder that pit bulls, like all dogs, should be judged as individuals based on their actual behavior, not stereotypes.

And Dr. Fein? She's the standard every vet should aspire to. Cornelia clearly agrees—she refused to get off her lap.

Eugene, an absolutely adorable giraffe born at the Toledo Zoo on January 17, 2026, is charming viewers after appearing to arrive in the world with a tiny toupee. His comical "hairpiece" is actually a normal part of giraffe development caused by his folded ossicones — the soft, horn-like structures that lie flat at birth before gradually standing upright.

Unlike true horns, giraffe ossicones are made of cartilage when calves are born and remain flexible to help protect the mother during delivery. Over time, they firm up and begin to stand tall, giving the giraffe its iconic silhouette. Cats are still stereotyped as overly independent and aloof, yet many felines are extremely loving and affectionate. While they may need some space at times, cats enjoy socializing and thrive around other people and pets.

Boots the black cat is a wonderful example of feline compassion and empathy, and recently took it upon himself to comfort two newborn lambs who were shivering in the cold weather.

In the Instagram video from @redfalconranch, Boots hovered over two baby lambs in a low-lit barn. Apparently, the pretty kitty was trying to help out mama lamb Adelaide.

"Last Saturday, Adelaide gave birth at midnight to healthy twins, Yvonne and Rozhay," the caption explained. "It was one of the coldest nights of the year with temps in the teens. Hence the sweaters."

Boots sensed the vulnerability of the newborn lambs and knew they needed some comfort. He quickly stepped up to give Adelaide some time for a snack.

"As soon as Bootsie knew there were new babies, he quickly found his way into the kidding stall," the story continued. "And while Mama Adelaide was distracted eating grain, Boots jumped at the opportunity to give the little ones some kisses."

The beautiful black cat is known as a total love bug. After a bit of a rough start in life, Boots blossomed when he finally landed in his forever home and shows his gratitude on a regular basis.

"Boots is one of the most loveable cats I’ve ever met," the caption gushed. "From being passed around as a kitten at the fairgrounds, to ending up at our neighbors, who also didn’t want him, to finally finding his forever home with us. And yet through all that…he never lost his spark."

The feline fur baby also has a soft spot for baby lambs and sticks close by during kidding seasons to lend a paw.
