Golden Retriever Hops Like a Bunny in His Easter Costume

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 10:55am

I regret to inform you that this Golden Retriever is not wearing an Easter costume; he is living his truth as a bunny. This Golden Retriever didn’t just tolerate an Easter bunny outfit; he apparently missed it so much that he kept carrying around his old bunny costume like a cherished childhood blankie. If that doesn’t punch you directly in the feelings, check your pulse.

When this dog mom realized the old one no longer fit (rude, very rude), she did what any reasonable human servant would do and took him to the store for an upgrade. The result is a properly sized bunny suit complete with ears… and a dog so delighted he immediately begins hopping like he just discovered gravity is optional.

My dog really wanted to wear his bunn costume #funny #dog #viral #kindness

♬ original sound - Girafferants Animal stories

@girafferants0 shared the TikTok clip, and people could not cope with the hops. The way he bounces with the floppy ears makes it look less like a costume and more like a full identity swap. One person declared him the cutest Easter bunny ever, while another insisted he must actually believe he's a bunny now. Honestly, I support that journey. If you’re going to commit to a theme, commit fully.

Several commenters pointed out how genuinely happy the Golden Retriever looks, which might be the sweetest part. He isn’t stiff or confused; he’s prancing. Thriving. Living his best life. Meanwhile, our dog would collapse like a fainting Victorian lady if I tried to put him in anything with sleeves.

How To Celebrate Easter With Your Dog French Bulldog wearing Easter Bunny ears.

Image Via: Firn/Shutterstock

Easter can be a fun holiday for pets as long as celebrations stay safe and dog-friendly. Instead of chocolate treats, consider special pet-safe goodies, new toys, or even a small backyard egg hunt using plastic eggs filled with bits of dog treats or approved snacks.

Festive outfits are fine if your pet is comfortable wearing them and can move freely without overheating. Supervised playtime, spring walks, and extra attention are often all most dogs need to feel included in the celebration.

And if your dog insists on being a bunny? Honestly, just go with it. Resistance is futile.

Mini Dachshund Who 'Just Wants to Make a Friend' Brings All the Feels

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 10:10am

My dogs take time to warm up to other canines. As soon as they see another canine on a walk, my Dachshund and my Pug mix are more suspicious than excited and end up barking. Once they do a little sniffing of the unfamiliar fur baby, they're more willing to socialize.

Cashew the Miniature Dachshund takes a different approach and is much more open to friendship, where he'll stand in place whenever he spots another dog in the hopes of them stopping by for a chat.

@cashewdachshund

And then once they get close he will freeze and not know how to act😭😭💔💔 #minidachshund #sausagedog #puppy

♬ original sound - cashewdachshund

In the TikTok from @cashewdachshund, the precious pooch was out for a walk with his mom, but stopped short in the middle of the sidewalk.

"POV: Your dog just wants a friend," the onscreen text read. Cashew's mom knew exactly what he was doing and gave more context to the scene.

"When Cashew spots a dog behind us, he will stop in his tracks just like this and wait for them because he wants to say hi," his mom explained. "He's just waiting for them."

The canine cutie's plan to engage a furry friend sometimes gets a little awkward when he's actually approached by another dog.

"Once they get close, he will freeze and not know how to act," the caption noted.

Followers shared similar stories and found the fur baby's strategy for socializing absolutely adorable.

"Mine too — always looking for friends, people, or pets," one remarked.

"He’s just a social butterfly," another pointed out.

"You should get Cashew a bestie," a follower suggested.

"Mine does the same, but the problem is we stop every 5 seconds," someone posted.

Miniature Dachshunds Are Very Affectionate

These little dogs are big in personality and heart. Mini Doxies are extremely loyal and affectionate, and make a wonderful addition to families.

This breed is known to be stubborn, so training may take longer than with other breeds. Dachshunds are playful, curious, and highly intelligent. Originally bred for hunting, these determined dogs have a very strong prey drive.

Mini Dachshunds love spending time with family members, yet can be a little wary of strangers. They warm up quickly once they have time to give someone the once-over.

Cashew is a Doxie who's open to any new friends that cross his path. Hopefully, he won't have to wait too long for a canine companion to swing by.

Maine Coon Cat Has So Many Extra Toes, It’s Basically a Bean Party

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 10:00am

Maine Coons are perfect no matter what. If I didn't have three dogs, I would get a Maine Coon in a heartbeat. Even the most basic Maine Coon can take your breath away, and the more unique ones just make an already great situation better.

One Maine Coon in particular has officially stolen my heart. He's a European-style, peachy colored boy... Stunning, but I don't even care. Best of all, he has so many toes it's almost unbelievable:

@foreign_felines

♬ sonido original - Mia

Foreign Felines specializes in Maine Coons like Cai: European Maine Coons with lots of toes. Polydactyl cats are highly sought after by cat lovers everywhere. The extra toes make their feet bigger, which is just precious!

Cai is a very important part of Foreign Felines, and he's a dad. He's going to pass those extra toes onto his babies for sure! Polydactyly isn't super rare, especially for Maine Coons, and it's not dangerous.

More About Polydactyly In Cats

Polydactyly, or the presence of at least one extra toe on at least one foot, is a common condition for cats. It's genetic, meaning it can be passed down from parents to offspring, though it happens accidentally occasionally. Luckily, polydactyly does not have significant bad effects on a cat's:

  • Lifespan.
  • Development.
  • Motor skills.
  • Quality of life as they age.

Though it might take a little time to get used to it when they're little, polydactyly doesn't typically cause kitties to stumble or trip.

How to Find Polydactyl Cats

If you feel like you really need some extra toe beans in your life, there's no shortage of them. You have a few options: going through a breeder who specializes in cats with extra toes or going to the shelter. Checking the shelter first is always best!

They may not list the extra beans on shelter websites, so going to visit in person is typically the way to go. If you are going to go through a breeder, extensive research is vital: polydactyly is not dangerous, but any genetic abnormalities need to be handled with extreme care!

Golden Retriever Is Absolutely Spiraling, Waiting for His Starbucks Pup Cup

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 9:55am

For many dogs, a Starbucks run isn't about coffee—it's about the pup cup. The not-so-secret menu item (a small cup of whipped cream) has become a beloved treat for pups everywhere. And for Parker the golden retriever, it's clearly a very serious matter.

In a popular video posted on r/goldenretrievers on Reddit, Parker is seen stationed at the Starbucks pickup counter where drinks are set down, and names are called. He's standing there with the focus of someone who's running late and desperately waiting on their morning caffeine fix.

Parker Eagerly Waits for His Pup Cup

Every few seconds, Parker swivels his head to look back at his mom, who's chatting with someone behind him. His expression practically says, "Mom, you ordered it, right? Right? RIGHT?" Then he turns back to the counter. Then back to Mom. Then back to the counter.

At one point, he trots over to his mom as if to confirm the order personally,  only to hustle right back to the counter in case his name (well, her name) is called. Eventually, in what might be the most heart-melting moment of all, Parker sits politely in front of the counter, as if thinking, "Maybe I need to sit for it?"

The original video ends with him still waiting, leaving viewers emotionally invested and slightly unwell. Thankfully, the Reddit user delivered a follow-up clip of Parker finally getting his whipped-cream prize. Balance is restored. The universe is back on track.

The Internet Feels Parker's Anxiety

Viewers were completely charmed by Parker's very real, very relatable anxiety over his whipped-cream order. His constant double-checking with Mom had people laughing—and fully emotionally invested.

"It's like 'It's coming isn't it? Mom isn't it?' and he is so patient. What a good boy," one person wrote in the post's comment section.

"That face! I would drop everything and get his pup cup," another added.

And then the comment we were all thinking, "Where the hell is his pup cup?!???"

By the end of the clip, it felt like the entire internet was collectively waiting at that counter with him.

A Gentle Reminder About Dogs in Coffee Shops

While most people were focused on Parker's emotional journey, a few commenters did point out that dogs typically aren't allowed inside food establishments unless they're service animals.

Policies vary by location, and many Starbucks stores have outdoor seating where pups are welcome. If you're planning a pup cup run, it's always a good idea to check your local shop's rules first.

In Parker's case, though, it seemed that people in the store were only focused on his cuteness and the fact that he waited like the very best boy.

Senior Dachshund With 'Strength of a Fighter' Crushes Daily Therapy Like a Champ

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 9:20am

When I adopted my senior dog from the shelter, he was in rough shape. Not only had he gone through some disturbing, heartbreaking events, but his age and health weren't at their best. It's been three years now, and though he has cancer, he wakes up every day ready to tackle whatever comes his way (and yes, I cry about him all the time).

Piper, a senior Dachshund with ailments of his own, would be good friends with my pup—I just know it. For being 18 years young, this little fighter isn't about to give up on life just yet, and his story of overcoming in the face of such adversity is all the inspiration you need.

A sleepy Dachshund naps on the couch.

Dogs have a way of reminding us what's really important in life. Piper may be slower, and he might need Dad's help to do the things he once did with ease, but his infinite grit and tenacity show what this good boy's truly made of.

As an 18-year-old Dachshund, Piper's no stranger to things like arthritis. His joints don't always cooperate with this amazing pup's youthful spirit, but with regular therapy, like swimming with Dad, he's taking it one day at a time. This good boy makes wellness look easy!

As one fan wrote, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog," and Piper is more than proving this to be true.

Easy Tips for Keeping Your Senior Dog Healthy

If you have a senior dog, you know it takes a few life modifications to make sure they're feeling their best. Weight management through high-quality senior food, especially in Dachshunds to protect their long spines and joints, along with short, low-impact walks and ramps for small pups so they aren't jumping and injuring themselves, are all priorities.

Regular vet check-ups are also important to stay on top of things (because changes in the senior years come fast). If issues like arthritis or sore joints become problems, take a page out of Piper's book and look into water therapy, which is a lot kinder on their bodies and makes for happier companions.

Massive Calico Cat Has Funniest Protest When Dad Stops Petting Her

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 8:20am

Some cats politely request more affection. Others perform what can only be described as aggressive customer service feedback. CJ, a gloriously massive Calico with the confidence of someone who has never been told no in her life, falls squarely into the second category. If the pets stop, the consequences begin immediately. Listen, she warned us all.

In the clip, CJ stands on the kitchen counter, receiving what appears to be perfectly acceptable petting. Everything is calm. Everything is happy. Then Dad makes the fatal mistake of trying to walk away. CJ locks eyes, swats his arm, and when that fails, she grabs his sweatshirt with her teeth, like a tiny fabric-based hostage situation. I relate deeply because this is exactly how I behave when my husband stops scratching my back mid-scratch. You started this, sir. Finish the job. Or there will be trouble.

♬ fakemink x the chainsmokers - WYA ADRIAN | DJ

TikToker @cj_the_calico captioned it, “How CJ acts when she doesn’t get enough pets,” which is honestly generous because this is less “acts” and more “bullies.” Viewers immediately crowned her a perfect princess and a drama queen, which feels accurate. One person pointed out the intense eye contact, and yes, that stare says, "I will remember this betrayal forever."

What really sealed it was how many people said their own Calico cats do the exact same thing. My Calico, Elvis, absolutely does. She’ll be purring like a tiny engine, blissful, content... and then CHOMP. No warning. Just a gentle love bite that feels suspiciously like a threat. Meatball, meanwhile, will simply sit on your chest until breathing becomes optional, which is less bitey, but arguably more effective.

Are All Calico Cats Female? @rawrycat

Did you guys know this??? 🤯 Follow for more cat facts! #catfacts #cats #calico

♬ Relax in nature(1277542) - fsb02takuya

Nearly all Calico cats are female because the genes responsible for their signature orange, black, and white coloring are carried on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes, which allows both color patterns to appear. Male Calicos are extremely rare and typically have an extra chromosome (XXY), a condition similar to Klinefelter syndrome in humans.

Regardless of gender, Calicos are famous for having strong personalities—sometimes affectionately called “tortitude,” even though that term technically applies to Tortoiseshell cats. Many pet parents report their Calicos being especially vocal, opinionated, and very clear about their expectations… particularly regarding petting quotas.

So, no, it’s probably not just CJ. It may very well be a Calico thang.

Golden Retriever Puppy Jumps on Dad’s Head and Turns Into a Sleepy Hat

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 7:55am

Golden Retriever puppies operate in chaotic bursts of enthusiasm, especially first thing in the morning. If they’re awake, it’s clearly everyone’s responsibility to pay attention to them and join in on whatever kind of fun they want to start their day off with. Personal space is more of a suggestion for them, and they’re not too quick to catch on to what it means to give people space to sleep.

In this video, we meet a cute Golden Retriever puppy who has become a very unique alarm clock for his family, which includes enthusiastic licking and zero personal space. And then, just as quickly, he falls asleep right there, draped over Dad like a very warm, very furry hat.

@george_thegoldenboy shared a video of the cutest Golden Retriever puppy named George, who did his best to wake up his dad in the morning, but quickly decided it would be happier for all if he joined him instead.

Now, instead of being a funny alarm clock, George has become a silly hat that snores and provides the best excuse to sleep in rather than get up early.

In the comments, it was clear that people agreed with the idea that George's antics mean it's a sleep-in day for everyone. One person said "Yes," while another declared they wished they had two puppies like George. And someone else joked, "Mine just bites," which we could probably all agree isn't the best way to start your day.

Golden Retrievers Are High-Energy Breeds

George is really sleepy in this clip, but as a breed, the Golden Retriever is pretty high-energy.

The American Kennel Club shares that the Golden Retriever is on the higher end of the "playfulness level," landing close to the "nonstop" side of the scale, but not all the way there. They love to play with people and are eager to share their happiness with their family. Add to that their "everyone is my best friend" energy, and Goldens are always there to amp you up, joining you in whatever you're doing.

Even if that's sleeping in, like George is doing.

Oakland Zoo Celebrates the Historic Birth of a Rare Red-Tailed Monkey, And Mom is 'Keeping Him Close'

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 7:50am

While Punch may be monopolizing the global zoo news these days with his heartwarming story, he's not the only notable zoo baby. Many zoos in the United States have recently welcomed many rare and milestone babies, including a giraffe, gibbon and capybara.

Oakland Zoo recently hit a milestone of its own this month: the birth of its first red-tailed monkey, and it's drawing visitors from all around.

Baby Monkey is the First of His Kind Born at the Zoo

Exciting news: Say hello to our first-ever red-tailed monkey baby! Nonami and Marley, our resident red-tailed guenons, are proud parents of a healthy baby boy.

— Oakland Zoo (@oakzoo) February 20, 2026

A male baby was born to Oakland Zoo's red-tailed guenons, Nonami and Marley. While he is the first of his kind to be born at the Oakland Zoo, he is not Nonami's first baby. She has two other babies, Ikea and Skittles, who were born at another zoo.

According to the zoo officials, "Nonami and her baby boy are thriving. He is nursing and bonding normally with Nonami, and she is ensuring the baby stays close."

The pair has already rejoined the other monkeys, and the zoo says they are getting along nicely and working on getting settled. His siblings are already very interested in their little brother. Though one is more interested than the other.

Related: Knoxville Zoo's Mother Gorilla Teaching Her Baby To Stand Is So Full of Love

According to the zoo, Ikea is far more interested in the new little guy than her sister is. The zoo said that she "wants to help Mom with grooming," allowing Mom to supervise while she pitches in with newborn care.

"Mom and baby frequently spend time in the habitat, where visitors can see them every day," officials said, easing people's fear that much like Punch, this little guy might get abandoned, too.

Though, since Nonami is on her third baby, I would say it's highly unlikely. But you never know. Since visitors have been filing in to see momma and baby, the zoo has made sure to point out that "sometimes Mom may prefer to retreat to a cozy, warm bedroom space with her baby."

Related: Southwick’s Majestic Lion Is Completely Mesmerized by the Falling Snow

What Will be His Name?

If you're curious about the little guy's name, you're not the only one. Many fans have wondered on social media what the zoo will pick. Fans threw around ideas like Hershey, Red, Dash or Theo. However, it looks like a decision has yet to be made.

"Keepers are thrilled about the Zoo's first guenon baby and are currently selecting a name for our new male red-tailed monkey," said the zoo. "Once a decision is made, we will announce it on social media."

So keep an eye on the Oakland Zoo's social media pages for updates. I am sure their keepers will pick an excellent name.

Tiny Tortoiseshell Kitten's Unique Pattern Makes Her Look Like a Peanut Butter Cup

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 7:10am

Many cat breeds boast unique fur patterns that look like mosaic masterpieces. Calicos, Bengals, and Maine Coons are just a few breeds with coats that can make you do a double-take.

Tortoiseshell cats aren't a specific breed, but get their name from their patchwork-design coat. This pretty Tortie kitten's fur is a wonderful example of how head-turning these coats can be, sporting a peanut butter-chocolate coloring that resembles a classic candy.

@c21cook

♬ My Love Mine All Mine - Mitski

In the TikTok from @c21cook, a tiny Tortoiseshell kitten was nestled in a blanket and looking very cozy. The baby feline had beautiful blue eyes and those adorable, tiny kitty paws, but her coat pattern was what stood out the most.

The feline fur baby looked like she had been dipped in dark melted chocolate and marbled with peanut butter. Her fluffy coat was mostly a deep, rich brown with honey-caramel colored patches swirled throughout her coat like a delectable peanut butter filling. Think Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in kitten form.

The post requested ideas for names of the female kitty, with many followers weighing in.

"Ocean — Those eyes are so beautiful, like another world is in them," one suggested.

"She looks like a cookie," another remarked.

"Reeses. Cuz she's a peanut butter cup!" a follower noted.

"She’s so pretty I feel like she needs to have a real little girl’s name like Claire or Celeste," someone wrote.

Other recommendations included some flowery names like Buttercup, Daisy, Petunia, and Rosie. Suggestions continuing the sweet theme included Coconut, Tootsie, Pepsi Twist, Snickers, Cocoa, Miss Honey, and Cinnamon. Then there were some more common names like Gracie, Sophie, Dottie, and Daphne.

Most Tortoiseshell Cats are Female

Mixed breeds and purebred cats can boast these colorful coats. American Shorthair, British Shorthair, Maine Coon, Persian, and Cornish Rex are some breeds that often have that eye-catching mosaic of fur.

Often called "Torties", these pretty cats are usually female, with males being very rare. Tortoiseshell cats are sometimes mistaken for Calicos, though Calicos tend to have three colors rather than the two of a Tortie.

No update yet on a name for the little kitten, so we'll have to stay tuned!

Fill-A-Bong Super Chewer Durable Gnaw + Enrichment Dog Toy, $12 at Bark

Bark

Let's address the shape first. The bright green bong silhouette is unmistakable and clearly stands out amongst dog toys. Yes, it's cheeky. And yes, it's absolutely going to earn a few raised eyebrows and double-takes from friends and family.

But this isn't just a gag gift. It's a real toy built specifically for aggressive chewers who tend to make quick work of flimsier toys. Sure, the playful shape is what likely grabbed your attention, but its toughness is what earns it a spot in your dog's regular rotation.

Related: Bark Is Selling a Hilarious $20 Plush Find That Brings the High Times to Playtime

What Makes It a "Higher Level" Toy?

The Fill-A-Bong toy, available in small and medium/large sizes, is made of durable rubber, so it's designed to withstand enthusiastic chewers. It also acts as a treat-dispensing toy so that you can tuck snacks inside and your dog has to roll it, nudge it and paw at it to release the goodies. These features make it a great option for pups who need both mental stimulation and a satisfying outlet for their natural chewing instincts.

It also features what Bark calls a "wacky bounce," so if your dog drops it (or launches it across the room), it will bounce unpredictably, adding another layer of interactive fun.

And, let's be real, this toy will make for the cutest, funniest photos. Friends will zoom in. Comments will roll in. Someone will absolutely say, "Wait, is that what I think it is?"

Why Is Mental Enrichment Important for Dogs?

Dogs are natural problem-solvers who were bred for jobs, whether that meant herding, retrieving, guarding or tracking. When they don't have an outlet for that brainpower, boredom can set in quickly. And bored dogs are more likely to chew furniture, dig, bark excessively, or exhibit other unwanted behaviors.

Toys that require dogs to think, nudge, roll and work for a reward tap into their natural instincts. Treat-dispensing and puzzle-style toys, in particular, can help reduce anxiety, burn off mental energy and promote calmer behavior.

Bottom line: this smokin' toy is a win-win for all. It's enrichment for your dog and entertainment for everyone else.

Always be sure to chew responsibly.

Dog Bonding: 8 Signs You’re a Perfect Match, Says a Trainer

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 6:10am

Devoted dogs don’t say “I love you” the way humans do. Instead, they express love and loyalty through their behavior and body language, not words, says Alexandra Bassett, founder and head dog trainer at Dog Savvy Positive Dog Training. Like true pack animals, their actions speak for them. Because of this, it can be tricky for pet parents to decode what their pup is trying to communicate with them at times. To help you undersand your dog better so you can see if they feel as connected to you as you do with them, we rouded up 8 signs your dog is your perfect match, according to a trainer.

Ask any trainer what makes a dog a person's soulmate and they’ll likely reveal that it isn’t just about choosing the right breed or a dog with a personality similar to yours. Instead, it’s about the subtle signs of compatibility your pup shows through their behavior every day. In fact, deeply bonded dogs will look to their owner for guidance without hesitation. They respond to their tone, adapt to their routine, and feel safe and comfortable in their world. They’ll keep pace with them on active days, but also happily settle beside their person on slower, more relaxed mornings. Some four-legged sidesicks will even instinctively comfort their owners during stressful moments.

Trainers say these dog behaviors aren’t random, but attachement signs that a dog feels aligned with their person. If your dog seems to move through life in rhythm with you, these signs may confirm you share a special human-dog bond.

8 Signs You Have a Strong Bond With Your Dog, According to a Trainer A happy dog who loves its owner.

Trainers say that dogs with a strong connection to their people show it through little actions. These attachment signs can be subtle, so it’s important to pay attention so you catch them. They can also help you bond more with your pup.

They Burrow Their Face Into You

Dogs that are happy or content may burrow their head into you by turning their face down and pressing their nose into your body. “It’s kind of like a ‘muzzle hug’ and something dogs reserve for people they’re especially close to and fond of,” Bassett says. This simple, affectionate action is your dog’s way of saying, “You’re the best!” and if your dog leans in and stays there for a while instead of quickly pulling away, it’s a telltale sign that your dog trusts you with their life.

“When a dog buries their face into you, they’re giving up visual awareness and pressing sensitive areas like their nose and eyes against your body, which is a vulnerable thing to do,” Bassett continues. “They won't do that with just anybody." So, if you have a dog who does this, consider yourself their best friend.

They Follow You Everywhere

If you have ever thought to yourself, "Why does my dog follow me eveyrwhere?" it's not a bad thng. If your dog acts like your shadow, they clearly see you as their person. “Dogs who are deeply bonded to you naturally want to know where you are at all times, even if that means following you to the bathroom,” Bassett explains. “Although this behavior may seem clingy, it’s a form of attachment and a way of maintaining connection for pack animals.”

Following you from room to room is also a sign your dog sees you as their emotional support human and has a tight bond with you.

They Gaze at You Softly

How can you tell if your dog loves you? Pay attention to their eyes as relaxed eye contact is one of the strongest signs a dog trusts someone. When your dog gazes at you calmly while being petted, resting beside you or watching you from across the room, it’s a sign of emotional security and connection. “This dog behavior is closely linked to the bonding hormone oxytocin, also known as the love hormone,” Bassett says. “It’s most commonly seen in dogs with a secure and loving attachment to their humans.”

Overall, ths dog affectionate behavior is a clear indicator that you and your dog are ideal companions for a compatible and harmonious relationship.

They’re Excited to See You

Understanding your dog’s personality comes in handy when you're trying to figure out how compatible you are. Whether you leave the house for a quick errand or spend the day at work, a dog's personality will show when you return. Therefore, if you notice your dog is happy to see you when you get home and expresses it with pure excitement, you will be able to tell your dog loves you deeply. “This may mean a lot of tail wagging, wiggly soft bodies, jumping, licking your hands and face, and wanting to be near you and spend time with you when you get home,” Bassett says. She adds that this happy dog behavior is a key sign that you and your dog have a close bond.

They Give You Their Paw

Dog and owner compatibility is often reflected in dog body language, and one of the sweetest gestures is when your dog gives you their paw. Similar to resting a hand on someone’s arm for reassurance, this simple act communicates, I’m here for you,” showing trust, connection, and affection.

“It’s a quiet, affectionate gesture that signals connection and comfort,” Bassett says. “A subtle way of letting you know your dog is fond of you.”

They Rest Their Head in Your Lap

A dog’s head is one of the most vulnerable parts of their body, so when they rest it in your lap or even on your head while you’re sleeping, it’s a powerful sign of love and trust. "It's their way of saying they feel protected, secure and deeply bonded to you,” Bassett explains.

This intimate behavior is a clear sign of a strong dog-human attachment and one of the most telling indicators that you and your dog are a perfect match. Dogs who display this behavior often have high compatibility with their owners, showing loyalty, affection and confidence in your relationship.

They Lean Against You

One sign a dog has a good bond with you is when they learn against you. After all, adog won’t put their weight on just anyone. When your dog leans their full body against you or curls up beside you for a full-body hug, it’s not random affection. Instead, it signals how trusting, loving and bonded your dog is to you.

“Leaning requires them to give up balance and control, something they’ll only do with someone they feel completely safe with,” Bassett describes. “Spooning, too, is reserved for those they feel deeply bonded to. Choosing that level of closeness is your dog’s quiet way of saying, ‘I trust you to support me, and I feel completely safe with you.’”

They Sleep As Close to You As Possible

Sleep is one of the most vulnerable states for any animal, and when your dog insists on sleeping near you, sharing your bed, or snuggling at your feet, it’s a clear sign of strong dog-owner bonding. Choosing closeness over comfort shows your dog trusts you and feels safe in your presence, which is a key indicator of a perfect dog-owner match.

“Even if they have a cozy bed of their own, being near you simply feels better,” Bassett says. “In their mind, sleeping close to you means protection, warmth and belonging, and nothing else compares.”

German Shepherd and Toddler Have a Howl-Off, And It's the Most Adorably Wholesome Interaction

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 5:50am

Dogs and their kids are often inseparable. Whether they are the same age or one of them came first, they never seem to fail to become thick as thieves. My German Shepherd was our kids' second dog, though the first my daughter really remembers. He almost instantly became her shadow, and I'm pretty sure loves her more than anyone else in the house.

There is something truly special about seeing kids bond with their pups. Kaos (absolute_kaos1) is often shown with his tiny humans on social media, and one video is just too cute for words.

Siblings Have a Howl Off View this post on Instagram

Kaos and his little seem to be having a bit of a howl off. The video starts with Kaos' paws up on the edge of the crib, howling up into the air while his little girl watches him. He puts on quite a show and displays a pretty decent vocal range.

She has a few pieces of input in between howls, but it doesn't deter Kaos from his contribution. The cute clip ends with Kaos's little buddy finally getting to say her piece, giving the world's most precious awoos.

Despite Kaos's best efforts, I dare say her howling is far cuter. Though the whole interaction is truly the most precious thing, and fans of the sweet pup agree.

Many wonder just what Kaos may be saying. One fan ventures, "He’s trying to sing her to sleep, but she’s saying I can do that better than you." Another says, "The shepherd is probably teaching her the a b c's."

They could also just be having some solid bonding time talking to one another in their "own language." With a bond like theirs, I wouldn't be surprised if they have their own back-and-forth. Kids are often more open and perceptive than adults, so anything is possible.

Another fan points out that she very well may be trying to say her pup's name. It's totally possible. The little is about the age where that could very well be.

Why Do Dogs Howl?

There are many reasons dogs howl, but they are all forms of communication. Two of the sweetest reasons for a German Shepherd to let out a howl or two are that they are excited to see you.

According to PetMD, howling can be an "invitation to interact." It can also express their emotions, whether it be excitement, happiness, or even upset. Though I would say that Kaos' howling is most likely his happiness to see his little human.

Golden Retriever’s Hide-and-Seek Strategy Needs a Lot of Work, but He's Too Cute

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 8:20pm

One of life’s many greatest joys is learning and playing new games. Finding different ways to bond, exercise, and have a good giggle creates lasting memories, and this is another big pro of having a dog in the family. Golden Retrievers, specifically, are always down to be silly, and they have the confidence to play something new, even if they’re not very good at it. And we love them for that.

In one video, we meet a Golden who enjoys playing hide-and-seek with his family, and he’s found the best hiding place that keeps his whereabouts a secret. Well, at least that’s what he thinks. Take a look!

On February 23, 2026, TikTok user @reefthegolden_ shared a video of Reef, a charming Golden Retriever, having the best time playing a game of hide-and-seek with his parent, and he feels like he's winning. And it's making everyone else laugh.

In the clip, we see that it's Reef's turn to hide while his parent goes out to seek, which makes the video so hilarious. We can see Reef right there, and it's not like he's giving up or not wanting to play. But he's legitimately bad at playing this game, because he's lying on the floor behind the sheer curtain that definitely isn't covering all of him.

In the comments, so many people shared their thoughts, agreeing that Reef isn't the best at this game, but we love a doggy who at least tries.

One person wrote, "Have you tried looking anywhere else?"

Another shared, "It’s amazing how your curtain is just floating above the floor."

Someone else added, "That is one of the prettiest Golden Retrievers I’ve ever seen."

Other comments included, "Invisible," "Ahhh, I think he's in my dining room," "Haven’t seen him but I’ll keep an eye out," "This is a tough game or hide-and-seek," "He’s good at this game," "I haven’t seen him, TBH," "Wish I could help ya but… I’m too distracted by the floating curtain."

And another joked, "Why the video of a curtain?"

Golden Retrievers Love To Play

Reef is such a sweetheart, and while he may not be the best at playing hide-and-seek, he and other Goldens like him love to play, and it's so good for them to have an outlet for their energy and mental stimulation.

According to Golden Meadows Retrievers, these dogs have a beautiful mix of qualities that make them great to play with, including confidence, extroversion, patience, and intelligence.

The site explains that since these dogs are by nature happy and friendly, they'll quickly become your best friend, and they don't mind doing something silly like playing hide-and-seek even if they're really bad at it. To them, it's fun, and we love watching the joy they bring to their families' lives.

Floppy-Eared Cocker Spaniel Puppy Chomps at the Air Like a Tiny Crocodile

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 7:20pm

There is something deeply alarming and also wildly adorable about a puppy who looks like a plush toy but behaves like a miniature dinosaur. Honey, a fluffy Cocker Spaniel puppy with ears the size of decorative throw blankets, has chosen violence. Instead of barking, she just snaps at the air with tiny, rapid-fire chomps like a wind-up alligator from the dollar store that somehow came to life.

Honestly, it feels less like aggression and more like she’s trying to bite invisible popcorn. Or catch ghosts. Or maybe she’s just testing her new teeth, like, hello, yes, these appear to be working. My Pomeranian, Kingston, went through a phase where he tried to bite sunbeams on the wall, which wasn't helpful for anyone involved.

@mae.georgiou

@mae.georgiou introduced the world to Honey with the TikTok caption, “Meet Honey, my cocker-dile,” which is both accurate and extremely rude to actual crocodiles, who do not possess this level of floof. In the clip, Honey chomps enthusiastically at nothing in particular, gets licked by an older Cocker sibling, then marches over to her dog dad at his desk to continue her invisible battle there. Work-life balance is dead.

Related: Mini Dachshund Puppy’s Perfectly Split Face Is Pure Puppy Magic

Viewers had theories. One person joked she must be a “Chomperspaniel,” while another said those are her “inside barks,” which honestly makes too much sense. Someone else suggested she’s copying humans moving their mouths to communicate, which is weirdly sweet and slightly unsettling. And yes, several people confirmed their own Cocker Spaniels do this, too, which means this may be less “glitch” and more “feature.”

My Maine Coon, Meatball, once tried to fight a piece of his own cat hair for 12 full minutes and then slept like he’d defended the homeland, so tiny creatures committing to nonsense is like a universal pet trait.

In this other clip, Honey doubles down on her technique, snapping enthusiastically like she’s auditioning for a very small shark documentary. She looks delighted the entire time, which suggests this is less frustration and more… recreational chomping. You can just see how happy this little baby is. Slightly unhinged, but joyful.

Air chomping like this is often linked to teething. Puppies explore the world with their mouths, and the pressure of chewing can relieve sore gums as adult teeth come in. Providing safe chew toys, frozen treats, or rubber teething options can help redirect that urge toward something less imaginary.

If the behavior becomes obsessive or seems uncomfortable, a quick check with a vet is always a good idea. But most of the time, it’s just a tiny baby discovering that she has teeth now and intends to use them, preferably on absolutely nothing.

Rescue Pup 'Letting Her Guard Down' After Experiencing First Soft Dog Bed Is Everything

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:10pm

Niall Harbison continues to change the lives of street dogs in Thailand through his animal rescue, Happy Doggo. He recently rescued a wounded canine that had been attacked by a pack of dogs and brought her back to his sanctuary for medical care and rehabilitation.

The animal advocate named her Velvet. The precious pooch is now getting to experience some very important "firsts" in her life, especially love and affection.

View this post on Instagram

Velvet required 30 stitches as a result of the dog attack. She needed extensive wound cleaning as well as treatment for an infestation of ticks and fleas that was causing extreme skin damage and pain.

Under the care of Harbison, Happy Doggo's vet team, and rescue staff members, Velvet soon started to come out of her shell. Harbison realized she was experiencing love and affection for the first time, along with many other things often taken for granted.

In a video montage from @wearehappydoggo, Harbison shared Velvet's reaction to finally experiencing the good things in life.

Her first dog bed started the post, where Velvet was given a brightly-colored room with her very own comfy bed, complete with cozy blankets and soft stuffed animals. The precious pooch looked completely content in her new digs as she gratefully received affection from a rescue team member.

Next up was her first bandana to make sure the fur baby was decked out in the best fashion. The red color suited Velvet perfectly.

Then Velvet enjoyed her first walk on a leash, where she was allowed to stroll and sniff at her leisure. Her first belly rub followed, where her face lit up with joy.

Naturally, Velvet had to have her very first toys so she could relive her puppy days the way she deserves.

The best "first" was saved for last. Velvet finally felt safe for the very first time, surrounded love and affection.

Velvet Continues to Heal

The rescue pup is in wonderful hands with Harbison and his team. Velvet is learning to trust again and is finally able to enjoy life.

"From her first dog bed and first walk, to finally realizing that she’s safe," Harbison wrote in the caption. "Watching her guard go down since the day we rescued her is why we do what we do."

Grumpy Golden Retriever Rejects Belly Rub, Then Blocks Brother From Getting One

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 5:20pm

Mornings can be complicated, even for dogs, because how great your day will be depends on what sleep was like for you the night before. When your sleep isn't refreshing, your day starts off with you in a sour mood, and you get that “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” feeling all day, which can cloud even the happiest of things. And yes, this happens for dogs, too.

We see that scenario play out when a grumpy Golden Retriever refuses belly rubs, something he typically loves. Well, until his brother pops into the picture and is happy to get all the affection that his parents will give. Then the mood suddenly shifts because if he can’t have the belly rubs, no one can. Take a look!

On February 23, 2026, @lexiwolfiepickles shared a video of two English Cream Golden Retriever siblings who had very different reactions to the start of their day.

First, we meet Pickles, who is having a grumpy morning and clearly doesn't care for his mom's affection. He's still being respectful, of course, but his grouchy face says it all—he doesn't want to be bothered and has zero care for a belly rub or the happy words his mama is saying to him.

She gives him a few scratches, then moves on to his brother Wolfie to give him some good morning love, too. He's loving the sweet words and is happy to get his mom's cheerful good mornings. But now, Pickles wants the attention, and his interrupting is so hilarious.

"The ending is definitely not calm," the caption reads, as Pickles does what he can to get back to the focus of his mom's good morning.

In the comments, people shared how charmed they are by both Pickles and Wolfie from watching this clip.

One person wrote, "Pickles might just be the most adorable dog of all time."

Another shared, "What an absolute blessing to have such fur babies in our lives. They are so beautiful in more ways than one."

Someone else added, "This might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen."

Other comments included, "That chicken leg raise—just wanna eat that little leg," "I am so in love with Pickles," "Just a baby," "Wolfie is so big brother-coded," and "Precious."

Golden Retrievers Are Known for Their Happy Temperaments

In this clip, Pickles is grumpy, and that's hilarious to see because it's not typical of what to expect with a Golden Retriever.

According to the American Kennel Club, Golden Retrievers are "intelligent, friendly, and devoted," and they land high on the scale of trainability in the "eager to please" section. As affectionate dogs with family and good with others, the breed is known for being easy to get along with.

And while Pickles is having a grouchy morning, we can see in this clip, or scrolling through others, just how charming and sweet he is.

Rare Fox Graces Lake Tahoe's Forest For the First Time Since the Mid-1900s

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 4:50pm

When most people think of California, they picture the sand and sea or crowded cities. But the state's ecosystem is far more diverse, ranging from bucolic landscapes to verdant forests and tranquil rivers and lakes. It's also home to many national forests, which are full of wildlife. Forests are home to bears, coyotes, wolves, and foxes. Plus many birds.

However, one fox species hasn't been seen in the Lake Tahoe area for decades. In fact, the last reported sighting was sometime in the mid-1900s. Earlier this month, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that not only was one spotted via trail cam in the area.

High-Elevation Fox Spotted for the First Time in Decades

Check this out! CDFW biologists captured & GPS-collared an elusive Sierra Nevada Red Fox in the southern Sierra for the first time ever! Very little is known about this rare species & scientists are excited to learn more through tracking its movement. pic.twitter.com/zqxzsq6OKN

— California Department of Fish and Wildlife (@CaliforniaDFW) February 10, 2026

The Sierra Nevada red fox has long been suspected of being gone from California's landscape. But it was recently captured on a trail camera on Lake Tahoe's western shore, near Blackwood Canyon, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. It's the first time the animal has been seen in the area.

The foxes thrive at altitudes of 5,000 feet and above, making it difficult to gauge how many remain in the area. CDFW officials are unsure of when the animals left the area, but they do know the population diminished around the mid-1900s.

“It’s very significant in documenting this,” said Chris Stermer, a CDFW senior environmental scientist, to local outlet Fox40. “What we feel is a range expansion, really a recovery of the population.”

There have been other sightings in other parts of California, including one in 2010 by Sonora Pass and 10 miles south of Mount Whitney near Cottonwood Pass. Most sightings have been captured on trail cameras, and the public is encouraged to report all possible sightings to the organization.

First Red Fox Captured and Fitted With Tracking Collar

In January, the department captured and collared a Sierra Nevada red fox for the first time near Mammoth Lakes, providing a better way to study the species and determine how many are in the mountains.

“This represents the culmination of 10 years of remote camera and scat surveys to determine the range of the fox in the southern Sierra, and three years of intensive trapping efforts,” California Department of Fish and Wildlife Environmental Scientist Julia Lawson said in a press release. The animals avoid humans at all times, making them difficult to find.

Officials hope the collected data will help them determine what the endangered species needs and support conservation efforts.

"Everyone on the team was thrilled to see our hard work pay off,” Lawson said in the release. “Our goal is to use what we learn from this collared animal to work toward recovering the population in the long term.”

Two Belgian Malinois Bust Through Baby Gate for Sister’s Homecoming

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 4:20pm

Belgian Malinois dogs are famous for being intense, athletic, and extremely attached to their people, which is why a standard baby gate has roughly the same authority as a piece of decorative cardboard. When these two giant pups hear that their human sister is finally home from college, the situation escalates from “mild anticipation” to “OMGOMGOMGOMG FAVORITE HUMAN HOME” in about two seconds.

Highly intelligent working dogs like Belgian Malinois don’t just feel excitement; they commit to it with their entire bodies. Waiting calmly behind a gate while someone they love approaches is simply not part of the plan, especially when reunion zoomies are involved. These dogs were built to scale obstacles, chase suspects, and probably reorganize your furniture if necessary. Just check out their reaction when they realize their human sister is home at last.

TikTok user @jklfsuindy shared the sweetly chaotic homecoming moment, which starts with the dogs pacing behind a baby gate while their dad teases, “Do you want to see big sister?” The pups walk to the gate, back to Dad, then to the gate again, like they’re trying to will the garage door to open faster. The second he says, “Here she comes,” the energy shifts from hopeful to unstoppable.

Related: Saint Bernard Cries Like a Baby When Beloved Sister Comes Home From College

You hear the garage door… a pause… and then the gate is absolutely flattened as both dogs launch forward, tails wagging like helicopter blades. One commenter joked that the gate was “a polite suggestion,” while another said it was “there for decoration,” which feels accurate given how quickly it surrendered. Someone else pointed out that the dogs could have easily jumped it, but chose dramatic destruction instead, which is honestly very on-brand.

In their defense, they were clearly concerned about her safety. And possibly snacks.

How Smart Are Belgian Malinois? Belgian Malinois on a fallen tree.

Image Via: Natalie_HellHerder/Shutterstock

Belgian Malinois are among the most intelligent dog breeds in the world, frequently used in police, military, and search-and-rescue work. They learn commands quickly, problem-solve independently, and possess intense focus when motivated, especially by their favorite people.

That intelligence also means they require a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Without it, they will invent their own activities, which may include redecorating your home or testing the structural integrity of baby gates. For the right household, though, they are loyal, protective, and incredibly devoted companions… just not particularly respectful of flimsy barriers during emotional reunions.

Gorgeous Ragdoll Kittens Are in Perfect Sync While Playing With Their Mom

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 3:47pm

A group of stunning Ragdoll kittens is delighting viewers with their perfectly choreographed reaction to their mom's "favorite game." As she moved a toy back and forth off-camera, the five little siblings turned their heads in perfect sync, as if riveted by a tennis match.

The felines were captivated, unable to tear their gaze from the alluring object. Two of the kitties even tried to swipe at it with their tiny paws. As entranced as they were with their mom, however, viewers were even more mesmerized by these irresistible creatures.

The piercing blue of their eyes was enough to keep us coming back for more videos of this striking quintet.

Why They Are Called 'Ragdolls'

Ragdolls are basically the gentle giants of the cat world — calm, affectionate, and unusually people-oriented for a feline. They were bred specifically for temperament, and it shows. These cats don’t just tolerate human interaction…they actively seek it out.

They’re known for going limp when picked up (which is how they got the name “Ragdoll”), and many will follow their humans from room to room like a quiet little shadow. Instead of being aloof, they tend to prefer being wherever you are — on the couch, next to your laptop, or patiently waiting outside the bathroom door.

Ragdolls are large cats with soft, semi-long coats and striking blue eyes, but their personality is what really stands out. They’re gentle, patient, and typically very good with kids and other pets. They’re also not especially vocal or hyperactive — more of a relaxed companion than a high-energy climber.

They do best in homes where they get regular attention, because they’re extremely social and form strong bonds with their families. In short, a Ragdoll isn’t a “background” pet. They’re closer to a laid-back roommate who just wants to hang out with you all day.
