The set includes a harness, collar, and leash for your pup, all draped in romantic regency-esque fabric, with high-end materials and silver-plated hardware rounding out the look. Chimera Kitten’s Glow-up Takes Her From a Tiny Scruff Ball to a Majestic Fluffy Diva

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 1:50pm

While all of us cat parents think our fur babies are the most beautiful cats ever to walk the earth, we never miss an opportunity to compliment all the other pretty kitties. Of course, some cats are objectively more striking than others, especially when it comes to cats like Maine Coons and orange cats.

One rare chimera cat is lighting up the internet with her unique looks and spunky personality. Mantis (mantis_the_cat_one) has always been beautiful, but her glow-up from a spunky little kitty to a stunning adult cat may be her biggest flex.

Mantis Goes From Spunky to Sassy View this post on Instagram

In a recent video shared on her Instagram account, Mantis starts as a spunky little kitten hopping through the hall. While her split coloring and two different colored eyes stand out as a little one, her spikey fur and off-kilter toddling qualify her for 'just too cute' status. Though she clearly is a feisty little girl.

The clip switches to her as an adult, transforming her from a spunky little cutey into a stunningly regal cat ready to take on any and all challenges. Her multi-colored fur is fluffy and looks so soft! I don't know about you, but I would want to snuggle her all day!

Her fans completely agree. Many left comments saying how beautiful and rare she is. One fan writes, "One of the most beautiful and unique kitties I've ever seen." She certainly is a rarity. A fact that many others reiterated in the comments, and they aren't wrong. Chimerism is a rare condition, but it occurs in all animals.

About Chimera Cats

Chimera cats are as rare as they are interesting. According to IPB University, the phenomenon occurs when two separate fertilized eggs fuse, forming a single cat with two distinct traits. The merge is what creates the split in their face, leading to two different eye colors and fur patterns.

The fusion is so rare that Chimera cats only make up about 1 percent of the global cat population. Although they are composed of two distinct sets of DNA, researchers have not observed any health issues in the animals so far. They live similar lifespans to other felines and do not appear to have any genetic conditions related to the fusion of two sets of DNA.

Mantis is clearly one happy, healthy, and well-loved cat. We can't wait to see more of her uniquely gorgeous face and charismatic personality.

This Sturdy, Lightweight Exercise Wheel From Kohl’s Keeps Kitties Frisky

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 1:42pm

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Exercise is important for ourselves, as well as our pets. Indoor cats often have limited opportunities to run full-out or practice instinctive hunting behaviors, which can lead to boredom, weight gain and anxiety. Weight management for pets is vital to prevent heart disease or diabetes. Our senior furry friends need exercise too to keep their joints strong and lessen the effects of arthritis (though check with your veterinarian before starting any exercise regimen with older animals).

If your cat could use some more movement in their life, this cat exercise wheel from Kohl's is just what your fur baby needs to feel the burn. The durable and low-noise cat wheel doubles as a play area to encourage your cat to move. Standing at 45 inches tall, it's made of lightweight polymer that is sturdy enough to withstand any pace.

PioneerWorks Indoor 45" Cat Exercise Wheel With Detachable Carpet, $133.99 at Kohl's

Koh;

The inner part of the wheel is 40.5 inches in diameter and more than 11 inches wide, which is roomy enough to give even the largest cat a healthy workout and space to walk. The track also has removable carpet to add some comfort and stability (plus, it's easy to clean). If the exterior gets dirty, just wipe it down using water and soap if you need it.

An exercise wheel is great to keep your cat entertained and mentally stimulated, as well as physically fit. It can distract from bad behaviors like climbing the curtains, scratching the sofa or knocking over precious objects during zoomies.

"If you can get your cat using a wheel it would be a great addition to an exercise routine!" said a commenter on Reddit.

Some cat wheels are made of wood, are heavy to move and can be harder to assemble. Others have replaceable foam pads that add to the expense. That’s why this Exercise Wheel With Detachable Carpet that sells at $133.99 at Kohl's is a purr-fect choice. It's sturdy but lightweight enough to move around, and it's easy to clean when needed.

Related: Cat's Cute Way of Begging for Attention at In-N-Out Drive-Thru Is Pure Comedy

Training Your Cat to Use the Exercise Wheel

Getting your cat to use the wheel may take a little time and patience. There are a lot of videos on the internet to help. Put it where your pet likes to hang out for optimal sniffing. It may even be used for a cat nap, which is part of the acclimation process. Eventually, you can lure your kitty onto the exercise wheel with a treat or toy. Keep the track from moving during this part. After a while, you can move it slowly, one step at a time, with a reward for each step.

After it feels more comfortable, you can gradually increase the wheel speed. If your pet walks on its own, great! If it jumps off, go back to where it feels comfortable and keep trying. Patience and time will build trust and win over your companion to use the exerciser on its own.

If you’re looking for cardio for your cat, this exercise wheel from Kohl's is a great deal for keeping it fit and frisky.

British Longhair Cat Transforms From Peach Fuzz to Butterscotch Cloud in Cute Clip

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 10:55am

There are a lot of traffic-stopping kitties in the world, and I'd like to think I have at least one of them in my Ragdoll, Milo. As dopey and spaced-out as he seems most of the time, he's just so pretty and fluffy—like a dream!

When it comes to beautiful cats, one breed is gaining in popularity for both looks and temperament, so basically the whole package. Biscuit, the British Longhair cat, has been a real cutie from her kitten years, but the fur glow-up is out of this world!

Side view of a fluffy British Longhair cat.

Image via Unsplash

Like my Ragdoll cat, Biscuit's got a lot to brag about when it comes to spellbinding eyes, a luxurious butterscotch coat, and the sweet, affectionate disposition to boot. She's a 13/10 in every kitty category!

@ourcatbiscuit

3.5kg of floof

♬ original sound - tomthedragqueen

To obtain the level of fluffiness that's happened in just one year, you'd have to be a very special feline, which "Biccy" is. Along with her younger sister, Blueberry (who just celebrated her first birthday), the British Longhair gals could be THE example of the breed.

Biscuit is:

  • Loving
  • Playful
  • An amazing sister
  • Beautiful
  • Cuddly soft
  • A very good girl

Looks aside, this is one cat with green flags all day. Like, can she save some of that awesomeness for the rest of us?!

How Big Do British Longhair Cats Get?

The actual weight of these felines isn't anything shocking, because it's their fur that makes them look bigger and puffier than they usually are. As TICA explains, female British Longhair cats grow to be 8 to 11 pounds, while males can weigh 10 to 16 pounds—plus floof!

When you see a side-by-side of Biscuit and Blueberry, it's clear the older sis is a bit smaller than the standard, while Blueberry is gaining on her. No matter their size, they're absolutely perfect!

@ourcatbiscuit

They’re getting a bit more brave with the pounces on it now 🥹

♬ Little Things - Adrián Berenguer

With a life expectancy of 12 to 20 years and a friendly, gentle, and smart demeanor, it's no wonder these angels are getting so popular. It just so happens they're easy on the eyes, too. If Biscuit's peach fuzz to butterscotch cloud transformation isn't enough to get you on this team, nothing will!

Golden Retriever's Full-Blown Tantrum When Ball Gets Stuck Will Make You LOL

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 10:10am

My Dachshund has that stubborn, determined streak her breed is known for and gets fixated on what she wants. When it comes to toys, she gravitates toward plushies and often hoards them so her Pug brother doesn't have access to her prized collection. If one goes missing, my Doxie won't rest (and won't let me rest) until it's back in her possession.

Winston the Golden Retriever seems to have the same devotion to tennis balls and got very vocal when one of them got stuck under a table.

@wackowinston

don’t worry his ball was retrieved

♬ original sound - Winston The Golden

In the TikTok from @wackowinston, the gorgeous Golden stood by the couch and verbalized some serious distress. Winston was obviously agitated about something and loudly howled at his mom.

"Winston crashing out because his ball is stuck under the table but I don't know why he's screaming at me," the onscreen text explained. The precious pooch's mom waited for the volume to die down, but Winston was undeterred.

"Enough!" his mom reprimanded. "You're gonna lose your voice."

Winston collected himself for a moment, but then remembered he still didn't have his ball and went on with his tantrum.

"Are you kidding me?" his mom said in frustration. "Is it because of your ball?"

Winston had an expression on his face that seemed to say, "Uh, YEAH it's because of my ball!" The cantankerous canine expected his mom to get up and retrieve his treasured possession. Still, his mother was unmoved by his antics.

"You are rude," she gently scolded. "You're a rude boy." Winston didn't agree with her statement and howled again in response.

His mom tried patting and petting him in the hopes of calming him down. This tactic worked sporadically but never lasted, with Winston continuing his verbal pleas.

Winston's Mom Helped Him Out

Followers were surprised at Winston's extreme emotions, but understood tempers were running high.

"I’ve never heard him this vocal before," one remarked.

"He’s like 'No your rude!'” another noted.

"I don't think I've ever heard a dog make sounds quite like that," a follower commented.

Good news — it all worked out in the end with the caption revealing, "Don’t worry — his ball was retrieved."

Dapple Dachshund’s Tiny Temper Tantrum Is Almost Too Cute To Handle

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 9:20am

Dachshunds are already known for having big feelings packed into very small bodies, but this dapple Dachshund is operating on a completely different emotional scale. Shy Bunny, a tiny long dog with an even tinier patience threshold, is throwing what might be the softest, squeakiest temper tantrum ever recorded. There is paw stomping. There are baby growls. There is blanket aggression. Honestly, it’s less “meltdown” and more “angry marshmallow having a moment.”

Little dog tantrums often look dramatic, but they are usually just bursts of frustration, excitement, or demands for attention. For stubborn, vocal breeds like Dachshunds, those feelings come out as grumbles, foot stomps, and theatrical whining. Shy Bunny’s version just happens to sound like a wind-up toy that discovered injustice, which somehow makes it impossible to take seriously.

@shybunnydachshund

I love her little growls #minidachshund #girldog #dachshund #dogmom

♬ original sound - shy bunny 🌸

The clip shared by @shybunnydachshund shows Shy Bunny pawing furiously at a blanket while producing teeny-tiny growls, squeaks, and offended little barks. She stomps. She whines. She looks personally wronged by the fabric. At one point, she pauses as if reconsidering her life choices, then resumes the protest with renewed determination. It is both ridiculous and deeply relatable.

Related: Shih-Tzu Screaming To Be Lifted Onto the Bed Sounds Exactly Like a Furious Child

Viewers were instantly smitten with the tiny meltdown. “I wish my human child had this type of tantrum,” one person joked, while another agreed it was “the cutest tantrum I’ve ever seen.” Several people admitted they couldn’t even be annoyed, because the noises are so small and squeaky. I mean, if this is what rebellion looks like, sign me up for a whole army of tiny Dachshunds staging polite uprisings in my living room. I'll happily deal with these types of tantrums any day!

Why Do Dogs Have Tantrums? @shybunnydachshund

little bunny temper tantrum #dachshund #girldog #minidachshund

♬ original sound - shy bunny 🌸

Dogs don’t throw tantrums out of spite or anger, really. Most so-called fits are simply expressions of frustration, overstimulation, boredom, or a strong desire for attention. Puppies and young dogs especially haven’t learned how to regulate big emotions yet, so the feelings just… spill out in dramatic fashion.

Certain breeds, including Dachshunds, are also highly expressive and vocal, which can make their reactions seem extra theatrical. The good news is that these moments are usually harmless and short-lived. With consistent training, exercise, and mental stimulation, most pups learn calmer ways to communicate what they want, though some will always keep a flair for drama because, frankly, it works.

Golden Retriever Chooses Hand-Holding Over Listening and Honestly, We Get It

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 8:55am

Some Golden Retrievers are technically trained, but emotionally, they stay very soft and sentimental. They’re romantic at heart and believe that physical affection outranks every command in the book. For them, obedience is optional if there’s a warm hand nearby to gently hold, and they really do mean that.

In this video, we meet a sweet Golden Retriever who fits this description to a tee and calmly ignores instructions in favor of tenderly holding his mom’s hands, instead. He doesn’t care if that’s not what he’s supposed to do… he’s not budging.

@dasher.through.the.snow

We are just best fwiends jeez #goldenretriever #englishcreamgoldenretriever #dogtraining #mansbestfriend🐶 #pup

♬ suara asli - Gado-Gado Semesta (Gagas) - blablabla

TikTok user @dasher.through.the.snow shared a video of the beautiful English Cream Golden Retriever, Dasher, who would much rather focus his time and attention where he knows he is loved, rather than follow the rules.

His mom is partly to "blame" here, too, of course. When your beautiful Golden Retriever stretches out his two front paws while sitting on his butt like a human, waiting for you to grab and hold paws, you really don't have any other choice than to grab those two paws now, do you?

Related: Golden Retriever Going Candle Shopping Like a Scent Sommelier Is Everything

In the comments, people agreed that when a dog wants to hold your hands with their paws, there is no other choice, even if it gets you into some trouble.

One person wrote, "I was told my Great Dane takes advantage of me because I'm too nice to her. But like... out of everyone in the house, she clearly loves me the best, so..."

Another shared, "I only get 12 years with her, best believe I WILL be holding her hand every chance I get."

Someone else added, "Dog trainer checking in. I see no problem with the hand-holding. Please keep doing what you are doing!"

Other comments included, "I mean, you taught it to him and he picked it up so I don't see the issue," "Our dance parties might be contributing to why he won’t stop jumping on people," "If holding hands with my Golden is wrong, I refuse to be right," "I think everyone just got jealous and they had to make up an excuse," and "Dog trainer here, my dog is my baby and I will not let anyone tell me any different! P.S. Keep holding hands with that baby, I can tell he loves you so much."

Golden Retrievers Are Pretty Great To Train

Dasher doesn't seem to take any issue with listening to people, even if he struggles with his trainer, but he's listening to his mama at least. And since he's a Golden Retriever, training him tends to come pretty easily, the experts say.

According to the American Kennel Club, Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent and rank at the top of the "trainability level" scale, landing at "eager to please," making them the perfect breed for focused training.

The site also explains that, since the Golden Retriever is part of the sporting group and has a pretty high energy level and high energy needs, having something to focus their time and attention on, like working or learning a new skill, keeps these pups at their happiest.

Keep up the good work, Dasher!

Fluffy Maine Coon Cats in Snow-Covered Tree Turn Donkey's Ears Into Toys

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 8:20am

In this adorable clip, three enormous, floofy Maine Coons are perched in a snow-covered tree like oversized floofy ornaments, except these ornaments can blink, purr, and apparently bully a donkey in the gentlest possible way.

One especially brave cat leans down from the branch and starts batting at the donkey’s long ears as if they were deluxe, farm-fresh toys. The donkey, to his credit, just stands there like this is a completely normal Tuesday. Meanwhile, I’m watching with my mouth open, wondering how we ended up in a live-action fairy tale. My Maine Coon, Meatball, once climbed a houseplant and knocked it over like a big, orange Godzilla, so seeing multiple giant cats calmly sitting in a tree feels deeply suspicious. I won't even let Meatball outside because he'd probably hitchhike to the grocery store to buy snacks.

@mcfloofenpantfamily

@mcfloofenpantfamily captured the magical chaos, and viewers absolutely ran with it. People joked about a “Maine Coon tree in full bloom,” asked where they could buy one, and declared it the most bountiful floof harvest of the season. Someone called them “the biggest squirrels ever,” which honestly tracks because if I saw this from far away, I would assume the forest had developed a luxury version of squirrels that were bigger and fluffier.

The sweetest part is how tolerant the donkey is. No ear flicking, no stepping away, just quiet acceptance of being used as interactive enrichment equipment. Several commenters pointed out how much trust that shows, and they’re right—farm friendships hit different.

♬ Happy Together - Weezer

In another clip, one of the massive Maine Coons is casually riding on the donkey’s back like this is an everyday commute. No drama, no panic, just two animals coexisting in a way that feels both ridiculous and oddly peaceful.

It’s the kind of scene that makes you pause and go, OK, maybe the world isn’t entirely terrible after all. Between the snowy setting, the giant kitties, and the unbelievably patient donkey, the whole thing feels less like a random farm video and more like a deleted scene from a cozy fantasy movie where everyone speaks politely and snacks are abundant. This Pretty Poop Bag Holder From Anthropologie Makes Doggy Duty More Delightful

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 7:55am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Picking up your dog’s poop isn’t exactly the glamorous side of pet parenthood, but it is one of the most important. Every dog parent knows the drill: you head out for a walk, your pup does their business and you dutifully reach for a crinkly plastic bag. Many of us just stuff a few bags in our pocket, clip a basic dispenser to the leash, or tie a spare roll to the handle and call it a day.

But what if even this not-so-pretty task could feel a little more polished?

Enter Anthropologie’s Bistro Tile Poop Bag Holder—a chic and, frankly, beautiful accessory that turns an everyday necessity into something you won’t mind showing off. Instead of a standard plastic capsule, this holder looks like a tiny designer coin purse, complete with a gold zipper, sleek shape and a charming tiled illustration on the front.

The Bistro Tile Poop Bag Holder, $28 at Anthropologie Anthropologie The Bistro Tile Poop Bag Holder, Garden

Anthropologie

The colorful butterfly mosaic on emerald green is so pretty, and it makes the pouch feel more like a fashion statement than a functional dog-walking tool. There's also an adorable bee mosaic on black option.

The holder retails for $28 and features a zippered compartment for your roll of bags, plus a small opening on the back to easily pull them through. A gold clip allows you to attach it to your leash, tote bag or key ring.

When you walk your dog multiple times a day, small upgrades can make a difference. Just like investing in a comfortable leash or supportive walking shoes, having accessories you actually enjoy using and looking at can elevate the whole routine.

Why Picking Up After Your Dog Really Matters

As cute as this accessory is, the real point of any poop bag holder is responsibility.

Dog waste isn’t just an eyesore. It can carry harmful bacteria, and when left behind, rain can wash fecal matter into storm drains, contributing to pollution in local rivers and lakes. In neighborhoods and parks, it also poses health risks to other dogs and children.

Beyond environmental concerns, cleaning up after your dog is simply part of being a considerate member of your community. No one enjoys stepping in a surprise on the sidewalk!

So while picking up poop may never be glamorous, it’s a small daily act that protects public health, keeps shared spaces clean and shows respect for others. And if a stylish little pouch makes the task feel even slightly more delightful, we’re all for it.

Shelter dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and breeds. Potential pet parents usually have an idea of what they're looking for when adding a fur baby to the family, but plans can change once they come across a canine that steals their heart.

This larger-than-life Schnauzer is currently waiting for his forever home and offers a whole lot of love.

View this post on Instagram

In the Instagram video from @wtopnews, the extra-large Schnauzer named Spaghetti is already winning over the shelter staff with his adorable personality and gentle spirit. He's even been labeled as "90 pounds of pure love."

"Spaghetti is such a good boy," Kelly Whittier, Public Affairs Director of the Human Rescue Alliance, shared as the canine cutie enjoyed some affection. "He's about 5 years old, he's a giant Schnauzer mix. He looks like a giant Muppet."

Whittier specified the size of Spaghetti so followers understood she was not exaggerating.

"When I say giant, I mean about 90 pounds worth of Muppet energy," she noted, while describing his loving demeanor. "He is affectionate and sweet and has been really gentle with us at the shelter, which is wonderful."

Spaghetti Is Receiving Heartworm Treatment

The precious pooch tested as heartworm positive and is currently getting treatment at the shelter.

"What we're really hoping for Spaghetti is a quiet home for him to recover," Whitter explained. "Heartworm only takes a few months to resolve itself with the proper treatment."

She pointed out that Spaghetti's thick, lush fur requires consistent grooming to stay healthy and untangled.

"His breed in particular has a lot of coat maintenance needs," Whittier said. "It'll keep growing and could get matted, which could cause health problems or challenges. So, a perfect family would be ready to take him to the groomer regularly, trim down his beard."

The caption gave more details about the friendly fur baby, saying he has "the most expressive face and gives soulful gazes that melt everyone he meets. He is a happy, fun dog who is intelligent and shows a lot of traits of a typical Schnauzer."

Whittier called Spaghetti a "fairly easy, good family dog" and feels he'll bring a lot of joy to everyone he meets.

Chewy's $13 Velvet Dog Blanket Turns Your Home Into a 'FurHaven'

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:59am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

At some point along the way, my Jack Russell, Winnie, decided that she didn’t want to sleep in my bed anymore. Well, that’s not quite true — Winnie will sleep in the bed if I nap, and she’ll start the night in my bed before going to the bed that she made in my closet. But when I wake up in the morning, she’s fast asleep on her little perch.

Now, I admit to being slightly clingy with my blanket, so I can understand why Winnie likes her space. I want to be a good Dog Dad, though, so I’ve tried making her closet setup more comfortable. She loves the various blankets she's collected.

Ironically, shortly after a Chewy location opened within walking distance of me, I came across the FurHaven velvet dog blanket on Chewy’s website.

Not only is the blanket on sale for up to 50% off (as low as $13 in large sizes), but its reviews have me thinking that Winnie will be begging me to take advantage of this deal.

By the way, Chewy provides free delivery on first-time orders over $35. Otherwise, you’re looking at a $4.95 shipping rate.

Reviews: What Buyers Say About This Dog Blanket

As of publication, 71% of shoppers left a five-star rating on Chewy’s website, with the “warmth and insulation” factor earning a 78% positive score. Overall, this velvet blanket earns a 4.3-star rating out of 5.0.

Check out what a few buyers have written online:

  • “My dogs gravitate to this blanket compared to other ones I have purchased.”
  • “My dog drags this all over the house. She likes it when we fold it up and put it in her bed for a pillow, and when we fold it up and lay it over her back. She pretends that she is a sheep dog!"
  • “(My dog) literally hugs it between his front legs sometimes while sleeping.”

What to Know About This Blanket

I already love everything that I’ve heard about FurHaven’s dog blanket, and I have a very good feeling that Winnie will be quite excited when she lays her eyes on it. So, what else do we need to know?

  • Size: This blanket comes in four different sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large. Nothing too surprising there. Winnie is roughly 25 pounds, so the medium makes the most sense. However, I do think she’d enjoy the large, so that’s definitely something to consider.
  • Colors: Regardless of size, you’ll have your pick of three colors: Gray, Mist Gray, or Taype, a gray-blown blend. I think the Gray is my personal favorite, though the Taupe might look better on my couch.
  • Two Sides, Two Options: Chewy boasts that one side of the blanket has warm, faux fur, while the other side is velvet. The faux side would “soothe” Winnie, and the velvet portion offers “soft, smooth comfort.”

The Bottom Line: Winnie’s birthday is in May, and this sounds like it will be an excellent present. Between all the praise for how comfortable the blanket is, the different sizes we can choose from, and the price, this absolutely sounds like it’ll be a home run buy.

7 Signs Your Senior Dog Is Still Happy, According to a Vet

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 5:10am

It may feel like just yesterday that your furry companion was an actual baby, and had playful puppy energy at that. You may have adored the long days spent playing fetch, cuddling, and watching them explore the world. Fast forward to several years and that feels like a blink of an eye, and your puppy is now a senior dog. And even though your older dog might not play as much or with the same intensity as before, that doesn’t mean they’re any less joyful or loving. However, since dogs communicate differently than people do, reading your dog's body language and decoding a dog's behaviors can be tricky. To help you understand your furbaby better, we rounded up seven signs your senior dog is still happy, according to a trainer.

When you understand the signs that your senior dog is happy, even if they can't play like they used to, you'll gain peace of mind and the knowledge you need to support your forever friend throughout their golden years, says Alexandra Bassett, the founder and head dog trainer at Dog Savvy Salt Lake City. "It’s important to recognize this because when guardians assume their dog is 'too old,' they sometimes unintentionally reduce enrichment and neglect them," Bassett says. "Walks get skipped, playtime stops being offered and fun outings decrease since it's harder for a dog to keep up. However, just because they tire out faster and may seem less interested in the activities they once loved, that doesn’t mean they’ve lost all interest in life. They may run out of steam faster, but the desire to participate in life is still there."

So, if you've ever asked yourself, "How can I tell if your senior dog is happy?" you're not alone. Many pet parents are concerned about their senior dog's health and happiness. The good news is, you can help your dog shine in their later years by learning how to tell if your older dog is content. See what those signs are below!

It's important to meet your dog where they are at, and age can affect that. As dogs age, they may slow down, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped enjoying life. According to many professional trainers, happiness in senior dogs just looks a little different than it did in their puppy years. That's why knowing the signs your senior dog is still happy can help you evolve alongside your pup.

"Recognizing your dog is slowing down but still needs you, and depends on their daily routine for happiness, helps you adjust your expectations about what your senior dog can actually do, without pulling away from much-needed experiences and interactions that keep them content," Bassett shares.

1. They’re eating

Yes, dogs can smile with their stomachs and it's one way you can tell your dog is happy, even if they are an older pup. "A consistent appetite is one of the clearest signs a senior dog is still feeling well and engaged with daily life," Bassett reveals. "When a dog eagerly comes to meals or happily takes treats, it signals that they feel well enough to physically eat, and their senses, like smell and taste, are still functioning."

2. The love going on walks

Your senior dog's pace may have slowed, but they'll still happily wake from their afternoon nap for a walk if they're feeling well. "If your dog perks up when they see the leash and willingly walks toward you for a potty break or short stroll, it tells you they’re mentally present and still value routine, exercise and exploration," Basset shares. "Even if the walk is slower and shorter, the desire to go is what matters. Motivation is a strong indicator of emotional well-being."

3. They’ll still engage you in fetch

What's one dog behavior that shows your senior dog is thriving? Many older dogs will gladly still play! It's one of the most encouraging signs your senior dog is content even if they can't play like they used to. "Playing, even in small doses, is a powerful sign of interest in life," Bassett says. "Senior dogs may only want a few throws instead of 20, but if they bring the toy back and want to re-engage for another round, that shows they still find pleasure in the interaction and shared activity with you. The intensity may be dialed down, but the spark is still there."

4. They sleep near you

If your older pup seems to spend a lot of time snoozing nearby, don’t worry, this can be one of the most reassuring signs your senior dog is happy. In fact, Bassett says this is one of the most reassuring signs of a senior pet's mood and health.

So, what's it mean when a dog sleeps near their owner? "Dogs are social pack animals by nature, so choosing to rest near you signals a strong bond and emotional security, as well as relaxation," she explains. "A dog who feels safe and content will sleep deeply in your presence, and proximity-seeking is a sign they still feel bonded and connected to their 'pack.'"

5. They still show curiosity about the world

Older dogs are still totally eager to experience new things. So, if you notice your dog is curious, that's how they communicate they are happy. While aging dog behavior often includes slowing down physically, mental engagement and interest in the world are powerful indicators of emotional well-being.

"A happy senior dog may move more slowly, but they’ll still stop to sniff that bush on your walk or notice a squirrel running across the yard and may even try to chase it," Bassett says. "They’ll watch what you’re doing in the kitchen. Curiosity is a great sign your dog is still interested and wants to participate in what’s going on around them."

6. They still give you a happy welcome home

When it comes to aging dog behavior and body language, how your dog greets you can reveal a lot about about their emotional well-being. One of the sweetest signs your senior dog is happy is a warm, enthusiastic welcome—even if it looks a little different than it did years ago. "Your dog may not sprint to the door or jump like a maniac anymore, but if they still light up when you come home by wagging their tail and get up to greet you, that means the emotional connection is still very much alive," Bassett states.

7. They seek and enjoy affection

One of the clearest signs your senior dog is happy is how they respond to affection. If you’re wondering how to tell if your senior dog is happy, pay attention to their dog body language during cuddle time. A relaxed posture, soft eyes, gentle tail wag, or leaning into your hand are all signs of comfort and emotional security. "If your senior dog leans into your touch, sighs or relaxes when you pet them, nudges you for more and chooses to stay close during affection, that’s a sign of comfort and trust," Bassett says.

Happy dogs also don’t just tolerate pets—they actively seek them out and enjoy the interaction. This kind of happy senior dog behavior shows that your aging pup feels safe, bonded, and content, which are all important indicators of overall senior dog happiness.

Signs Your Senior Dog Needs Help

Yes, it's important to recognize the signs that your senior dog is happy, even if they can't play like they used to. Yet, it's equally critical to understand when your senior dog may be sick or in pain.

"The key difference between normal aging and a health concern is changes in your dog’s personality or normal habits," Bassett shares. "If your dog is acting like themselves, just slower, that’s often typical aging. But if their personality, habits or engagement with life shift noticeably or suddenly, it’s always worth checking in with your veterinarian."

Bassett shares that signs that your dog may be sick or in pain include:

  • True lethargy (difficulty getting up, seeming unusually tired or being hard to rouse)
  • Loss of interest in activities they normally enjoy
  • Isolating themselves (hiding, staying in another room or avoiding contact instead of their usual bids for connection)
  • Changes in appetite
  • Limping
  • Difficulty with stairs or jumping
  • Panting while at rest
  • Excessive licking or chewing at a specific area of their body
  • Behavioral changes, such as increased irritability or reactivity (barking, growling)

Try to give your senior pet some grace. "Pain can lower a dog’s tolerance and patience, especially with handling, other pets or busy or chaotic environments," Bassett states. "Any noticeable shift in mobility, temperament or daily habits deserves attention. When in doubt, check with your veterinarian."

Lego’s New 1,755-Piece Orange Cat Build Comes With all the Personality and None of the Maintenance

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 10:50pm

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Lego has come a long way from the colorful bricks we played with as kids. From brand and TV collaborations to decorative seasonal collections, there really is something for everyone, including Lego-loving adults.

Their latest adult Lego line caters to pet owners, starting with a brick Golden Retriever and a tuxedo cat. So you can not only have a life-size, fluffy version running around your house, but also a replica for your shelf. In March, they will be expanding the collection to include everyone's favorite rebel rauser, and arbitrary cuddle bug: the orange cat.

Lego's Orange Cat may be just under $100, but at 1,755 pieces, it seems like a fair price. Cat lovers will have the purr-fect time creating the adorably realistic cat. Lego continues its trend of posable, customizable parts, a common feature of the Ideas line.

After assembling the 1,700 pieces, you can adjust the cat's ears, paws and tail. Plus, the head is movable. So you can change the direction it's looking daily if you wish. The eyes can be green or brown, depending on your cat's color or your preference if you don't have a cat.

In addition to repositioning the head and limbs, the cat's mouth can also open and close. It stands 12.5 inches tall and does not produce any allergens or dander, which can be a huge plus for some cat lovers who can't have one of their own due to allergies.

Related: Tuxedo Cat Meets LEGO Version of Himself and Immediately Hates It

The cat can sit on your shelf by itself, or you can pair it with the black tuxedo cat, which Lego intends as a companion piece. Much like real-life cats, you can't have your Lego cat getting lonely up there on the shelf.

I would be tempted to get all the animals the brick builder has produced so far and add to the collection as they make more. As a cat-and-dog household, I think it would only be proper to get one of each. Now, all they need to do is create a German Shepherd and a Tortie, and I could have exact replicas of my fur-babies.

While the set doesn't release until March 1, fans are already forming opinions, especially since some have already put together pre-release models and shared reviews.

While many people are poised and ready to click buy, some fans are unsure about the color. Opinions fall into two camps: some think it is too brown or dull, while others think there may be too much white accent. Even with the color discrepancies, the general consensus is that they will probably buy it. Either way, building the cat will result in a 100 percent good time and an adorable decor piece.

Golden Retriever Tries Epic Head Tilts To Get His Way and It's Too Funny

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 8:55pm

Freddy, the Golden Retriever, has the head tilt down cold!

“So, you think you can just tilt your head like that, and it’s going to convince me to give you whatever you want?” comes the hilarious audio on this TikTok adorable clip. “Well, you’re absolutely right. What do you want? Do you want treats? Do you want my soul? Do you want my undying loyalty? I’ll give you anything!”

Freddy obviously knows that deploying these gestures causes everyone’s heart to melt. It’s just the cutest thing!

“Those sweet eyes!” another viewer chimed in. “I just love his sweet face.”

Freddy is, after all, a Golden Retriever, and as we all know, Goldens are typically gentle, patient, and loving with everyone!

But there’s something about that head tilt that makes us lose our minds and want to give in to all demands.

Why Do Dogs Tilt Their Heads?

Well, there may be a few factors at play!

Dogs tilt their heads primarily to better localize sounds—in other words, to find the source. Additionally, these movements improve their field of vision past their muzzles and help them process human speech or unfamiliar noises. This behavior often signals curiosity, concentration, and engagement, as they try to pick up specific frequencies or emotional cues.

It also may be from giving our four-legged friends tons of positive reinforcement! Just think about Freddy’s pet mamma! Imagine all the "awws" he gets from head tilts that are quickly followed up with a treat or two!

Freddy is a gorgeous boy as it is, but those head tilts are just too much!

Yes, Freddy, we’ve all fallen under your spell! You’re such a good boy. Now, please don’t take your pet mom’s soul. Surely a treat will do!

Smitten Pig and Duck Couple's Lemony Sunshine Date Looks Like Heaven

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 8:20pm

The heart wants what it wants, and there's no better example than when two completely different animals fall head over heels for each other. There's no rhyme or reason as to why their relationship works; it just does.

One pig and duck who found love on their homestead are giving major #couplesgoals as they take their date nights out to the pasture. This is one love story for the record books!

@ralphlovespenelope

Ralph is one smitten kitten, except in this case, he's a cute little duck! Penelope, the pig, wouldn't know how to do life without her number one main man, and the feeling is mutual. Whether the two are enjoying an evening stroll beneath the sunshine's warm rays or cuddling up in the barn's hay, you'll rarely find one without the other.

These two love:

  • Taking long walks
  • Basking in the sunshine
  • Reminding each other to enjoy the little things
  • Snuggling in the barn
  • Being adorable couple's goals

It's too bad these two don't realize all the ways they're an inspiration!

The real-life farm boyfriend and girlfriend are pop culture's next Taylor and Travis, with cuteness to spare. Their daily dates are pure heartwarming content, delighting fans with each post. It's like the devoted duck and his pig partner are straight out of a Disney movie!

There are only bits and pieces of Ralph and Penelope's story since their 2025 hard launch. Having such a sweet bond with the "opposites attract" spark shows that love goes beyond species. It's been said in multiple posts that when the sun winds down after their evening strolls, they cuddle up in the barn together for a good night's rest. Swoon!

For anyone worried about one breaking the other's heart, rest assured—the two really do everything together. Devoted ducks are known for imprinting when they're newly hatched, so it's hard to say if that's what happened with his pig crush or if the two souls knew each other in another life. Either way, they're precious.

Here's to all the Ralph and Penelopes of the world. May we all find a true love like this!

Gigantic American Bully Has Such a Big Head People Think He’s Fake

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 7:55pm

Every once in a while, you see a dog so ginormous your brain just short-circuits a little. Not scary ginormous. Not even “wow, that’s a big dog” ginormous. More like… is this real life or did someone accidentally inflate a regular dog to 200%? TukTuk, a massive American Bully with a head the size of a Thanksgiving turkey, has officially entered that category.

In the clip, TukTuk is sprawled across his mom like a weighted blanket designed by a bodybuilder. He weighs about 110 pounds, which is less “lapdog” and more “portable furniture.” His face alone looks like it could have its own ZIP code. I showed this to my kid, and he just said, “That’s not a dog, that’s a small couch,” which feels correct. My Maine Coon, Meatball, is huge for a cat, but if he ever reached this scale, we would need structural reinforcements and probably a permit.

@lulu_andtuktuk

He’s 100% good boy #dog #puppy #dogs #funnydog #americanbully

♬ original sound - Lulu_andTuktuk

TikToker @lulu_andtuktuk joked, “Your dog is so big people assume he is AI,” which honestly feels less like a joke and more like a public service announcement. TukTuk lies there blinking sweetly, completely unaware that he looks like he wandered out of a Photoshop file. Viewers called him a “big ol’ lovebug,” praised his expressions, and several people insisted he isn’t a dog at all but a hippo in disguise. And you know what? I see it.

Related: Great Dane’s Massive Size Next to His Mom Is Hard To Wrap Your Head Around

The funniest part is how gentle he looks. All that mass, all that head, and he just radiates soft baby energy. Like he would apologize if he accidentally knocked over a lamp with his face. Meatball once knocked over an entire glass of water and stared at it like it had betrayed him personally, so at least TukTuk seems emotionally stable.

Check Out Mom Trying To Get TukTuk up in the Morning @lulu_andtuktuk

♬ original sound - Lulu_andTuktuk

In another clip, TukTuk demonstrates that being gigantic also means being extremely difficult to relocate. His mom tries to coax him off the bed, but moving 110 pounds of sleepy dog is less “wake up” and more “attempting to reposition a sandbag that sighs.”

He flops, resists, and generally behaves like every human on a cold Monday morning. Eventually, gravity wins. Owning a dog this size clearly doubles as a full-body workout. I have so many questions for his mama. Like how she bathes him! Maybe it's a two-person job, LOL.

Kohl’s Is Selling a High-Protein Tough Chew Perfect for Dental Health

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 7:35pm

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

It’s no secret that dogs love to eat. And while most breeds are happy with their two square meals a day, there’s always room for snacks before, after and in between. Outside of mealtime, whether it’s for training, a quick distraction or rewarding your good boy or girl, the right treats can make a big difference in building healthy habits.

One of the most effective treats you can grab for your furry friends are bully sticks. Often made with rawhide and flavored with beef or chicken, they help with oral care, provide mental stimulation and give your pup a little nutritional boost. Right now, Kohl’s is selling a whopping 1 pound bag of Rocky Ranch Small Bully Sticks for $43.99—and they’re perfect for active chewers and parents who love having a reliable distraction within reach.

Rocky Ranch Small Bully Sticks, $43.99 at Kohl's Rocky Ranch Small Bully Sticks, Beef Flavor

Kohl's

Made for medium-sized breeds who love to chew, this bag of small bully sticks is crafted from pure beef, offering a long-lasting, natural snack that supports a healthy dental routine. With a soft chew, they’re suitable for dogs of all life stages and can even work well for some smaller breeds too.

Ultra-nutritious and packed with goodness, these sticks contain a minimum of 80 percent crude protein, making them more than just a fun treat. And with a full bag available for $44, it’s the perfect pickup for multi-pet households or for keeping a steady supply on hand at all times. Basically, if your pup is already obsessed with chewing, you can’t go wrong having this bag around.

Related: This $23 Kohl's Hygiene Find Makes Oral Care Easier Than Ever

Carefully processed to maintain consistent quality and texture, every chew is equally satisfying for your pup to enjoy. And thanks to their nutrient-rich makeup, including them in your dog’s daily routine can help support healthy skin and coat, as well as joints and muscle tissue too.

If you do grab a bag of Rocky Ranch Small Bully Sticks, just keep in mind they should be stored in a cool, dry place at all times. Additionally, you’ll want to stick to a maximum of one treat per dog per day, as these are meant as a reward, not a meal replacement.

And as always, it’s a good idea to supervise your pup while they enjoy their bully stick, since small pieces could pose a choking hazard. Once they’ve shown they can handle them safely, you can relax a bit, but a little extra caution never hurts.

While you’re at it, check out Target’s ultra-fun interactive dog toy and IKEA’s indoor-outdoor agility course. Both options are great for encouraging mental stimulation and keeping your pup active and engaged while providing a perfect opportunity for a bully stick reward.

Silly Scottish Fold Cat’s Intimidation Attempt Is Adorable and Ineffective

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 7:20pm

Scottish Folds often look permanently surprised, thanks to their big, giant eyes and their ears that are always turned down. Looking perpetually surprised can make any attempt at intimidation a real challenge, because even when they’re trying to appear tough, their expressions tend to give them away.

We see that play out perfectly in this video of a Scottish Fold staring intensely at something he clearly doesn’t understand, attempting to look threatening while looking utterly confused. The effort is there, but the result is pure comedy. It’s cute and completely ineffective. Let's take a look!

@louiethefold

Most dangerous of them all #kittens #scottishfold #cutecat #purfect #greeneyes

♬ A dangerous profession - PBS Nature

@louiethefold shared a TikTok video of a Scottish Fold cat named Louie, who might be one of the cutest kitties in the world. But he's not very intimidating despite his very best efforts.

Louie is just a kitten, but with his typical Scottish Fold traits, including his big eyes and tiny body, he doesn't look like he could hurt anything, not even a fly. His standing on his back paws and the voiceover joking about how he's "dangerous" give the funniest juxtaposition in this clip.

Related: Scottish Fold Cat Tries To Act Casual After Being Caught Red-Pawed

"Most dangerous of them all," the caption reads.

In another video, this charming cat has a red bow tied around his neck and is sitting still on the table, next to a vase of flowers, looking like he came straight out of a fairy tale. He's so charming and very typical of a Scottish Fold, which might be one of the least intimidating cat breeds. His attempts at intimidating us are adorable and very ineffective.

Scottish Fold Cats Are Known for Their Features

Louie probably couldn't look dangerous even if he tried as hard as he could because they're just sweet-looking kitties. With Louie being a Scottish Fold, we know that they're more strange, loving, and silly than intimidating in any way.

According to Hill's Pet, the most well-known features of a Scottish Fold are their round faces and folded ears. These cats have "very round, bright, and clear" eyes, and their legs and tails look longer for their size than they should. They have short coats, but they're thick, soft, and fluffy, and can come in a variety of colors, including white, blue, silver, red, cream, brown, black, and tortoiseshell.

This tiny, white-and-gray kitten still has some growing to do, but he's never going to look intimidating, sorry. He's just way too cute.
