For many dogs, stuffed toys are prized possessions. Some bring them along on walks, others insist they come for car rides, and plenty curl up with them at bedtime like a favorite pillow.

But for Buttercup, a Yellow Labrador Retriever, it seems none of her beloved stuffed animals belong indoors on a perfectly good snow day.

After all, there’s something about fresh winter air that makes everything better, even toys. Buttercup didn’t just bring a few outside, either. The sheer number scattered across the yard was so dramatic that viewers couldn’t help but joke that it looked less like playtime and more like a full-blown CSI setting.

If you’re a snow-loving dog, it only makes sense that your best friends should experience the winter weather right alongside you. Buttercup clearly believes in leaving no stuffie behind. Even when it looked like every toy in the house was already outside, she proudly dragged out another one to join the group, determined to make sure no plush pal missed out on the fun.

Fans couldn’t get enough. One viewer joked, “Looks like a stuffed animal crime scene.” Another added, “What in the frozen stuffed pet cemetery is going on?” Meanwhile, @captain_lazer chimed in, “I have two Chocolates, and this is exactly what my backyard looks like!” Many other pet parents agreed, admitting they’d witnessed similar scenes after a fresh snowfall.

Buttercup wasn’t the only one enjoying the snow. In another clip shared on February 5, her sister Peanut can be seen making a snow angel right alongside the scattered toys.

Dogs don’t latch onto plush toys by accident. Many are drawn to them for reasons that go beyond simple play, especially breeds that enjoy carrying objects from place to place. According to Petmate Academy, stuffed toys appeal to dogs in part because their soft texture resembles prey, which naturally encourages behaviors like carrying, shaking, and retrieving. For Retrievers in particular, having something in their mouth often feels instinctive rather than optional.

Plush toys can also provide comfort. Dogs tend to associate certain toys with familiarity, especially when those toys carry the scent of their home or family. Over time, that can turn a stuffed animal into something closer to a security item than just a plaything.

Beyond comfort, plush toys also help dogs stay mentally engaged. Moving toys around, relocating them, or deciding where they “belong” can be just as stimulating as more active forms of play.

In Buttercup’s case, bringing her stuffed toys outside seems to be part of the routine. Rather than leaving her favorite companions behind, she makes sure they are included in whatever activity she is enjoying, even on a snowy day in the yard.

When puppies are in the early stages of life, they can resemble everything from a stuffed animal to a cotton ball. Breeds that are extra fluffy like Bernese Mountain Dogs, Pomeranians, and English Sheepdogs basically look like walking clouds when they're in their early days. A floofy puppy's fur coat sometimes gives them a look outside of the canine realm that's totally irresistible.

In the TikTok from @ralphthegentleman, the precious puppy sat in his dog bed in the car, basking in his undeniable cuteness. Though Ralph is a full-bred Golden Retriever, his fluffy golden white fur covering his body and face gave him the appearance of a "real life Polar Bear", according to the caption.

Ralph's tiny eyes, surrounded by tufts of fur, as well as those giant poofy paws, emphasized that bear cub likeness. Followers fell in love with the canine cutie's inescapable charm and commented on his sweet demeanor.

"You are such a little gentleman," one raved.

"So fluffy and perfect," another remarked.

"So cute," someone praised.

A previous post revealed that the Golden Retriever puppy is just 9 weeks old. Ralph recently went on his "first outing" to help him socialize.

"I'm literally the youngest sibling of eight," the onscreen text shared of Ralph. "Guys, I am extremely social."

The poofy puppy arrived at the pet store and was placed in a shopping cart, but he saw the mode of transportation as a bit more fancy.

"When we arrived at Petco, they put me in what I can only describe as a horse and carriage," the story continued. "Very royal. Very Bridgerton. Apparently, I'm not equipped to walk on the floors yet. Which is fine — I prefer to be admired."

Ralph browsed by the fish, but got bored very quickly. The birds didn't seem to hold his interest either. When the gorgeous Golden was shown the dog spa, he was offended that he didn't have an appointment but planned on going back for a "full foil and layers".

Even though Ralph left the store without any purchases, he rated the experience "five stars" and vowed to book an appointment at the spa.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, a pet will choose you. That has not happened to me: I have three dogs, and all of them consider me their secondary person (or even lower). I bet it's very special to be chosen by your furry friend.

You can trust that if Letitia Kiu could have become a bird mom right then and there, she would have. That bird obviously wanted her to be his new mom and best friend for life! Unfortunately, though, it just wasn't possible.

She'll be his honorary mom, though. If she ever goes back there, I wonder if he'll remember her! Cockatoos have decent long-term memories, so there's at least a chance! Next time, she might just have to sneak out of there with a bird-shaped lump in her jacket...

This video was taken when she was visiting Maleny Botanical Gardens and Bird World on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. Maleny is home to over 600 birds, some of whom are native to Australia, and others that they've picked up from around the world.

Most of their birds are rescues, including this Cockatoo. Though it's unclear how he lost his leg, that kind of injury is exactly the type of thing that would put him in a sanctuary for the rest of his life.

It might be easy to assume that birds don't necessarily need their legs; their wings can carry them, right? And while it is true that birds can live long and happy lives if they're missing a leg, it's certainly not ideal.

Birds use their legs for more than you might think, including:

1. Preening themselves.
2. Gripping their perches.
3. Balancing.
4. Pushing off perches for flight.
5. Gripping their food to help break it open.

While they can get by not having both legs, it's a little bit rougher. Impacted birds might struggle with balancing and wobbling, even during flight. Lucky for this boy, he's got lots of people who love him!

Maine Coon cats are allegedly the most dog-like of any cat breed. I have three dogs, none of whom are as fluffy as a Maine Coon. The thought is simply terrifying and exhilarating all at once.

One Maine Coon proved that, regardless of how dog-like they are, this breed is the life of the party. Not only is he hilarious, but he's incredibly self-sufficient. A true problem solver:

Mars the Maine Coon is a very large cat, and very large cats often have very long limbs. It can be a little bit hard to get them all clean, especially their back legs! There are simply some times when getting creative is necessary.

Mars has clearly mastered that, and I love everything about it. He managed to hold his back paw using both of his front ones, allowing him optimal space to clean up. Plus, it was a nice way to stretch. We love a multipurpose king!

When he's not busy preening his super impressive fur, you can typically find Mars lounging about. He loves spending time with his mom, and as an only-cat, he needs her for the companionship! Luckily, she doesn't mind at all.

He's very handsome. He takes very much pride in his appearance, and though he's always been beautiful, he's grown a ton. These days, he's looking like a very fine young lion:

He was only six months old in the last clips of that video, which makes him about a year and a half old now!

Maine Coons are a very interesting case because, unlike most cats, they actually are not considered full-grown for about 3-5 years, depending on the cat! Most other cats are done growing by about two!

Though a Maine Coon might not grow much size-wise after about year two, they continue for several years, developing:

• Bone structure.
• Their brains.
• Their adult coats.

Your Maine Coon at two years old and at five years old may be the same physical size, but oftentimes, they'll look like a completely different cat. It takes a while to reach their full potential, and I can't wait for Mars to get there!

A winter snowstorm turned into an extraordinary reunion after a long-lost cat named Tiger found his way back to the people who never stopped wondering what had happened to him.

According to a Facebook post shared by MSPCA-Angell, Tiger wandered into an apartment building in Roslindale, Massachusetts, during the weekend of Jan. 31—the same weekend a major snowstorm hit the area. Likely seeking warmth and shelter, Tiger let himself inside, where a bit of incredible luck awaited him.

One of the residents in the building was a staff member at MSPCA-Angell, and spotted Tiger. They brought him to the shelter to warm up, wait out the snowstorm and see if he might belong to someone.

As they do with every animal that arrives at the shelter, the shelter staff scanned Tiger for a microchip. To their surprise, he had one that was registered.

When staff called the phone number linked to the chip, they said the woman on the other end of the line was "stunned" because her beloved cat had been MIA for four years. She initially assumed there must have been some kind of mistake. But after all those years, it really was him.

Tiger had joined the family 16 years earlier as a family pet. For 12 years, he was part of their daily life, until one day, he disappeared. Despite searching everywhere, the family never found him and eventually had to accept the heartbreaking possibility that they might never know what became of their cat.

You can imagine her surprise when she was told that not only was her cat alive and well, but he hadn’t traveled far at all. He’d been lost remarkably close to home the entire time.

When Tiger’s family came to pick him up, he went to the vet and then returned home, wasting no time slipping back into his old routines. He walked straight to the food cabinet and pawed at it exactly how he did years ago, and then curled up at the warm base of the refrigerator—just like he used to!

Now a little older and a bit worse for wear after years on his own, Tiger is doing well and getting used to life again as a house cat. The reunion was made even sweeter when the family’s kids, now away at college, came home to see their beloved cat again.

Stories like Tiger’s may be rare, but they’re a powerful reminder that microchips don’t have expiration dates. Even years later, they can still reunite lost pets with the people who love them.

As the shelter put it simply: “Microchip your cats, y’all, and make sure they’re registered and up to date.” You never know when a microchip—and a little luck—could help bring your pet home.

Dog show season has come and gone. Another year where I watch the show and look over at my dogs, sighing. They could never be show dogs, and that's why I love them, but I still get a little jealous!

Recently, though, one Corgi proved that not all show dogs take life ultra-seriously. After all, dog shows are just big gatherings of people who love dogs watching dogs do some cool stuff. He couldn't help saying hi to all his fans:

Adelaide the Italian Greyhound isn't a show dog herself, but her mom loves to watch them anyway. She's really into seeing:

• Different dog breeds you might not see every day.
• All of the different skill sets.
• Different grooming methods.

Dog shows are full of positive energy! People who love dogs are gathering together to see as many dogs as possible. Dogs, of course, pick up on that. This Corgi immediately notices his adoring fans, and he wants to say hi!

Since this isn't the poster's dog, we really don't know too much about him other than what we see here. My favorite thing about him is that huge tail he has, and the black fur on his body. Most regular Corgis you see around have short tails and warm brown/white fur.

Speaking of tails, she also saw some other Corgis at the show, and almost all of them had pretty long tails. She saw both Cardigan Welsh and Pembroke Corgis, and they all had tails!

Pembroke Corgis are the most common variety to see out and about, and they typically don't have them. They typically have their tails docked soon after birth, or in other cases, the tails have been bred out.

The AKC does not require Corgis to have docked tails, though undocked tails (particularly in Pembroke Corgis) are not considered "show-quality" and may disqualify them from conformation. The Westminster Kennel Club has similar rules.

The Corgi in the ring in this video is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which are actually permitted to have tails. He's so beautiful, too!

A pet goat named Memphis is stealing the spotlight in a hilarious video shared on Instagram by country singer-songwriter Adam Chaffins—and viewers can’t get enough of his dramatic, very vocal boundary-setting.

In the video, Chaffins approaches Memphis as the goat happily munches away on a pile of hay. Many viewers seemed to agree that yes, yes, he absolutely did. As funny as Memphis’s response sounds, goats are actually known for being highly expressive animals. They communicate using a wide range of vocalizations, head movements, posture and facial expressions, often with impressive clarity. 

What makes moments like this one so entertaining is how easily goat behavior lines up with human interpretation. Memphis wasn’t speaking English, of course, but his timing, tone and body language made his feelings unmistakable. Sometimes small dogs use aggressive displays like barking to keep potential threats at a distance. The glass door gave this Chihuahua the perfect sense of security to act tough. Once that barrier disappeared, reality set in: the Great Dane was approximately 50 times his size.

Creating comfortable environments for small dogs helps reduce these anxious behaviors. When small dogs trust their humans to protect them, they don't feel the need to become tiny security guards.

The Great Dane's calm response also demonstrates why proper socialization matters. Well-adjusted larger dogs understand their size advantage and typically show patience with smaller, more reactive dogs.

As for our brave Chihuahua? He learned an important lesson about picking battles—preferably ones that don't involve removing protective barriers between you and dogs the size of small horses.

Valentine’s Day with a cat can be surprisingly fun and low-key. Taking themed photos with a simple paper heart or wearing a cute pink or red sweater while your cat supervises is usually enough to make it feel festive. Just keep anything worn lightweight and safe.

Lickable treats are always a hit. A little Valentine's snack session, maybe a cozy blanket, maybe a few extra cuddles. For me, it will probably involve Meatball sitting directly on my chest and crushing me with the full weight of his love while I pretend I can still breathe. That is romance in this house.

Getting an emotional support dog is supposed to calm your anxiety. For one Florida woman Megan, it just doubled it.

A viral TikTok shows Beans the miniature Dachshund staring at her human with wide, concerned eyes that scream "Are we okay? Is THIS okay? Nothing is okay!" Posted with the caption "They said 'get a dog for your anxiety.' They did NOT specify a dachshund. This is mine after I looked at her wrong for 2 seconds," the video perfectly captures what happens when an anxious person gets an equally anxious dog.

Beans lies on the couch, her expression radiating existential dread as she glances around nervously. Her dramatic personality is on full display, and the internet absolutely relates.

"Was that the wind or economic collapse?" joked one commenter, perfectly channeling Beans' energy.

While Beans' dramatic stares are personality rather than genuine anxiety, dogs can experience real stress. Early signs include lip-licking, crouching, paw-lifting and panting unrelated to heat or exercise.

As one sympathetic commenter noted: "Poor Beans! She's obviously a highly intuitive, intelligent and empathetic creature. I'd be more worried if she wasn't anxious in the world we live in. I'm glad you've got each other."

Mission accomplished? Questionable. Adorable? Absolutely.

Considering the predatory relationship that naturally exists between cats and birds, it's no surprise that a kitty goes a bit wild when they see a bird out the window. Something in their bodies must be screaming at them that there's a threat nearby, and some cats choose to scream back.

That includes the Oriental Shorthair cat in the video below, even if his screams are more of the silent type. Still, you can tell Winstony really means business!

How dare a seagull come so close to THE Winstony

On Monday, February 9, @fivecrazycats on TikTok shared this footage of what happened when she and her cat Winstony were riding in the car and a seagull decided to take up residence on the hood... right in front of where the cat was sitting in the passenger's seat.

Winstony (who is very fashionably dressed in a sweater) is on full alert, letting out some of his most ferocious "screams" at the bird, but since not much noise is coming out of his mouth, he may not be quite as threatening as he thinks he is!

At the same time, he seemed pretty fascinated by his new friend, so maybe he wasn't that mad?

While Oriental Shorthair cats may not be huge fans of seagulls (or maybe that's just Winstony?) they are big fans of people, so if you adopt a cat belonging to this breed, you have a friend for life.

As PetMD points out, Oriental Shorthairs are chatty, outgoing cats who make excellent companions to the humans in their lives.

They also have playful, mischievous personalities and a penchant for chaos, so just be aware that your kitty is always going to keep things interesting (and that you should probably cat-proof the house, just to be safe).

Since they are such social creatures, they will really thrive in homes that already have other pets or plenty of people, kids included. They crave lots of interaction, so having plenty of people around to provide that can only enrich their lives.

Riggie the Berner is truly the size of a big rig, so it's very impressive for this cat to be able to handle him. Riggie's mom is a literal dog trainer, and he does his best, but all bets are off when he's home.

In this clip, Riggie is practicing his most impressive skill: talking with buttons. His mom taught him, and she loves helping other pet parents teach their pups how to do it, too. It's a very useful skill!

If Riggie wasn't proof enough, Bernese Mountain Dogs are complete and total goofballs. Intelligent goofballs, sure, but goofballs nonetheless. They're awesome, and they make great additions to families.

Bernese Mountain Dogs can get along great with kids, other dogs, and even cats under the right circumstances. They would never intentionally harm anyone, but there are a few things to avoid:

• Allowing them to jump up in greeting.
• Letting them bite the cat.
• Continuing to keep them and the cat together if the cat is showing signs of distress.

The most important thing is to avoid aggravation, because aggravation is almost always directly what leads to injury. Not for Riggie, though: he knows who's boss!

Being sleepy and a bit groggy after a nap or after waking up in the morning after a longer sleep is normal for dogs just like it's normal for humans — sometimes it takes a minute to adjust to the world again!

But seeing abnormal amounts of lethargy in your dog can be a sign that something is wrong. As PetMD points out, the difference between your dog being lethargic and being sleepy is that they aren't just tired and snap out of it after a nap; they're unusually sleepy and even lose interest in playing or going out for walks or doing their other favorite things.

It's also very telling if they suddenly start acting this way without having participated in something that would have totally worn them out, like an especially long playtime or walk outside.

There are so many different conditions, ranging wildly in seriousness, that list lethargy as a symptom that it's important to call your vet so that your dog can get checked out.

My dogs have their typical sibling moments. There are times when my 15-year-old Dachshund gets annoyed with her 8-year-old Pug brother's nonstop energy and puts him in his place. My Pug loves to rile his big sister in the hopes of getting her to play, and the inevitable bickering always ensues. It's the harmless banter that's considered tradition between siblings.

In the TikTok from @bruno.teddy, Bruno was lying in his dog bed, minding his own business and happily chomping on a red plushie today. His younger brother Teddy walked right up, grabbed the toy with his mouth, wrangled it away from Bruno, and sauntered off like nothing happened.

Bruno stayed in the dog bed, almost as if he didn't believe what had just happened. Could his own brother be so shameless? So rude? The older fur baby's expression was a mixture of shock, disbelief, hurt and disgust all at the same time.

"I'm sorry... WHAT just happened??" the onscreen text read, putting a voice to Bruno's feelings.

Followers guessed at what may have been going through Bruno's mind in the wake of such brazen behavior.

Biscuits are one of the best parts of having a cat. I used to have cats when I was little, and it was my favorite! These days, I only have dogs, but my girl dog actually makes biscuits all the time. It's why she's my favorite!

The ZZ Homestead is an awesome place to grow up, clearly. They have tons of animals, but there's always space in their hearts for more. When a pregnant 7 or 8-month-old kitten turned up at their house, they wasted no time. They made sure mama was:

• Safe
• Warm
• Fed
• When the kittens are ready, spayed.

They took her in, and she gave birth to a litter of happy, healthy kittens, though a few had a rough start. Their human caretaker claims a few of the kittens in the litter were stiff and cold when they were born, though they've all recovered.

Though all of the kittens love and appreciate their human friend, this boy is the clingiest. In this video, he's literally minutes old and already trying to get to her! Needless to say, they kept him.

Their mom had five kittens, and they've decided to keep two of them. Three have officially gone on to their forever homes, though hopefully she'll get some updates!

As we approach springtime, we're approaching the time of the year I never shut up about: Kitten Season. We're going to see an uptick in kittens and pregnant cats. It happens every year.

1. Take her in and foster her and her kittens.
2. Immediately get her to the vet for a checkup.
3. If you can't keep her, contact a local animal rescue.
4. You can offer to "sponsor" certain animals at some rescues, covering the costs of care and adoption.
5. If you do want to keep her, make sure to get her and any kittens fixed.

The most important part of Kitten Season is staying aware. Be on the lookout for pregnant cats, and check boxes/bags/bins, etc., for dumped kittens when you see them! Maybe you'll be able to help a cat and get some epic thank-you biscuits, too!

There's a new generation of dogs these days who are raised with everything they could ever want or need.
