If you have cats, and you think you're in charge, think again! As a pet mom to three distinctly different, opinionated felines, I can attest to the fact that they may not pay the bills or work the 9 to 5, but I answer to them—not the other way around—and they let me know if I step out of line, as I often do.

Arthur, the Tuxedo cat, must've known my kitties in another life because he, too, believes he runs things in his house. How dare Mom sleep in when this vocal boy expected a laundry list of things owed to him. No worries, though, because he's giving her a good talking-to, so she'll do better!

A "fuming" Arthur represents felines everywhere who have had enough of their parents not doing their part! I can translate what he's saying in the funny clip, and he's threatening to start a union to make sure he gets the treats he deserves on time! With his hilarious "smoker's voice," thousands sounded off in the comments about the chatty cat, and they didn't disappoint.

There are doggos. And then there are lowrider, snack-shaped doggos who look like they should come with mustard.

Lottie is a Dorgi, a mix between a Corgi and a Dachshund, and she is quite literally the sweetest little corn dog you have ever seen. She's brown and white, long in the body, short in the legs, and permanently under her mom’s feet like a tiny shadow with opinions.

She’s still a puppy but I’m so excited to see what she looks like full grown! - So far I’ve learned that dorgi’s are very sweet and loyal dogs. The adorable TikTok video was shared on the @emilyjennette account with a caption explaining that Lottie is still a puppy, already incredibly smart, and learning tricks in just a few days. She follows her mom everywhere, is almost fully house-trained, and apparently has the kind of loyalty that makes you feel chosen.

Listen. I have a tiny dog myself, and that is more than enough personality for this house. Small dogs come in compact bodies but with full CEO-level confidence. If Lottie ends up with Corgi sass and Dachshund stubbornness, her mom better buckle up. But honestly? That is half the fun.

Wally the Golden Retriever is sending TikTok viewers into a state of total calm with his blissed-out reaction to a gentle head massage. As the pampered pooch relaxes into his mom's hands, Wally emits soft, snorting sounds that are about as close to ASMR heaven as viewers can hope to get.

Our fur babies are family, and pet parents go to great lengths to ensure their safety. Dogs and cats can get lost and put in danger due to various circumstances, and it often takes a team effort to find them.

Aria the cat went missing for a full 6 days in freezing temperatures after a car accident with her parents in Colorado. Thanks to the hard-working efforts of a rescue team, the pretty kitty is now home safe.

The TikTok from @cbsnewscolorado shared how the cat was lost in a blizzard after a car crash near the Eisenhower and Johnson Tunnels at 11,000 feet.

"Icy conditions up here led to the car with the cat getting rear-ended around the tunnels here," reporter Spencer Wilson explained. "When they pulled over to check the damage, the cat ended up getting out and running into the woods."

At the time, there was a blizzard hitting in full force which made a rescue team race against the clock to reach Aria.

"Dispatchers got word to the Summit Lost Pet Rescue, a group of nonprofit volunteers who work on calls just like this," the story continued.

Though the rescue organization was used to searching for lost animals in bad weather, the conditions during this particular rescue operation were especially difficult.

"The winds were also blowing snow into the area," rescue team member Shelly Wasson said, according to CBS News. "So all the little nooks and crannies that she could have got into were filling up with snow and making it more difficult for us to try to find her."

The team searched for 6 days until they finally were able to locate the lost cat.

"I know I'd looked under this same log at least two or three times before," Wasson explained. "But this time the snow was completely gone. I got under there, and of course, she's a gray striped tabby, so she blended in quite well with a dead log, but I spotted her... She was covered in snowballs... I don't know how much longer she could have lasted out there. She was so cold."

Aria was returned to her very grateful father, Dat Nguyen, who praised the rescue team for their tireless efforts.

 "She's at least 80% better — And she's very happy to be home," he said. "Thank you. Thank you for the rescue team. Not thanking enough."

Moose, a TV-watching Corgi, is charming social media viewers simply by the way he sits while watching his favorite TV show with his favorite human. While Moose’s way of sitting is charming viewers, this precious pup isn’t the only Corgi known to sit like a human. Corgis often sit on their backsides or in other unique positions thanks to their long bodies and stocky legs. In addition to sitting upright like Moose, corgis often adopt a “side-sit,” where they rest on one hip rather than both hind legs. Corgis are also famous for their adorable sploot, belly down with legs stretched out behind them, and these quirky sitting positions are usually a sign of comfort.

Corgis often choose a preferred sitting position from a young age as a way to stretch their backs and hips.

Other dog breeds are known for their distinctive sitting positions based on body type as well. Dachshunds, like corgis, are known for their charming sploots. Pugs, Shih-Tzus, and Boston Terriers can also be found sitting on their backsides, while bulldogs are known to sleep on their backs for comfort and maximum cute factor.

February is here, but that doesn’t mean winter’s chill will thaw anytime soon. While the country rebounds from one winter storm after the next, many are ready for winter to bid a fond farewell. The Panda Bears at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C., are getting the most out of winter, turning freezing snow days into charming playdates social media followers can’t get enough of.

It’s tough not to fall in love with these black and white cuties, but the reason panda bears like to roll through the snow isn’t exactly what it appears to be. Pandas do roll as a form of play and exercise, and even to scratch themselves, but these charming bears also roll as a way to stay warm.

In cooler temperatures, pandas often roll through horse manure, which contains chemicals that block cold-sensing proteins in the bears’ skin, helping them endure cold temperatures. And because pandas have round bodies and short limbs, rolling is also a natural way for the bears to get unstuck.

Panda bears often prefer cold weather over heat. The bears’ thick, oily fur allows them to thrive in snowy and freezing temperatures, where they become more active and playful compared to warmer weather, which can cause them to overheat.

Hailing from the mountainous regions of central China, panda bears thrive in cold weather. If only the rest of us did, too.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the entire East Coast has been dealing with some tough winter weather.

First, there was Winter Storm Fern, and now we're dealing with a Winter Bomb Cyclone, which even brought flurries and low temperatures to Georgia and parts of Florida.

However, when you're pummeled by snow, you have to make the best of it, and that is exactly what this dog mom of two French Bulldog sisters, Lavender and Latte, did.

Even though the video narration said Lavendar and Latte (aka their mom) were just going to stay in their apartment and watch people slipping and sliding in the snow and freezing below, Mom had other ideas.

There is a new trend on TikTok and Instagram that is the perfect winter activity for snow and dog lovers.

Basically, you dig a heart-shaped hole in the snow (usually the humans have to do this, but the dogs can help) and then you put your phone facing up in the snow, and you and your family members and dogs lean over into the heart, and it makes for a very sweet photo (despite frigid temperatures and snow that will never melt).

So, of course, as influencer dogs Lavender and Latte—they have over 207k followers—needed to be part of this.

Lavender and Latte, who live in NYC, which recently experienced its biggest snowfall in years, explained in the narration that their mom is too easily influenced by trends like this.

They did note, though, that fortunately, their mom had gone out ahead of time and made all the holes, so the girls wouldn't have to spend as much time outside.

Then she came back up to the warm apartment and got the ladies dressed in their warm pink coats to do the photo shoot.

It looks like, much to their dismay, the girls did manage to get a good shot with the snow heart, and then it was quickly back upstairs to get warm.

Now that they were done with their social media duties, it was time to get nice and warm.

The girls cuddled up on a bed together in front of a TV fire. "Yes, this is a TV, but Mom has the heat on, and it might as well be 100 degrees in here."

They mentioned that people have been asking when they will share videos of them frolicking in the snow in Central Park, but the girls said definitely not when it is this cold.

New York City is currently experiencing extremely frigid temperatures, with windchills dropping as low as -15 degrees, and this is expected to continue for the next few days, so we will just have to settle for these little Frenchies cuddling by the "fire."

It can't be easy to play with cats who easily use all four of their legs, so it really is special that these two have the chance to spend time together.

As a vet nurse and someone who regularly fosters animals, there's no doubt that Floyd is used to his mom bringing home new friends, but from the videos she's shared of him in the past, it looks like he still has big main character energy.

He's quickly made himself an irreplaceable part of the family, too. Earlier this week, Trine shared a look back at the earliest footage of Floyd that she took when she first decided to bring him home forever eight months ago, and it's so sweet to see how he settled right in.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a Florida cold snap meets a committed wiener dog, Wilson has your answer.

In the video, the triathlete behind the camera is out for a run when his Dachshund, Wilson, suddenly veers off course toward something lying in the grass. At first, it looks like a stick or maybe a toy. Then the camera zooms in, and you realize what’s really going on: Wilson has found a “cold-stunned” iguana, one of the many reptiles literally dropping out of trees during Florida’s historic temperature plunge. 

Because iguanas are cold-blooded, when temps dip into the 40s and below, their bodies can slow down so much that they lose muscle control and appear frozen or even dead. In reality, many of them are still alive, just temporarily immobilized until things warm back up. 

Wilson, of course, has no idea he’s stumbled into a biology lesson. He does what any self-respecting Dachshund with a strong fetch drive would do: gently grabs the iguana and trots back like he’s just found the world’s weirdest tennis ball. His human is half laughing, half horrified, narrating that iguanas are literally falling from trees right now, and Wilson has “fetched himself one” that he is very quickly told to drop.

It’s funny and chaotic in that uniquely Florida way, but it also lands in the middle of a situation. Green iguanas are an invasive species in Florida, and during rare cold snaps like this, officials issue guidance and even temporary executive orders about what people can safely and legally do with cold-stunned lizards. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) warns that, even when stunned, iguanas can still scratch, bite, and carry salmonella, and recommends that untrained members of the public avoid handling them directly. 

So while Wilson’s “help” is unintentionally on brand for a hunting breed, the real takeaway is that curious dogs and falling iguanas are not a great combo.

If you and your dog run into a stunned iguana during a Florida cold snap, the safest move is to leash your pup away and keep your distance. FWC notes that green iguanas are a prohibited invasive species and should not be relocated or released elsewhere; instead, property owners who want them removed can contact licensed wildlife control operators or use official drop-off options during special cold-stun events.

As an animal lover, it's hard to think about how many dogs and cats are living their lives in a shelter instead of in a loving home with their forever family, and when the weather gets cold, it's even more heartbreaking for animals who may be living in the streets. Where are they supposed to go when temperatures drop?

There are some people out there who are more than happy to step in as foster parents when these homeless animals need them most, and that can lead to some truly heartwarming moments, like seeing the Pit Bull in the video below finally getting some well deserved rest.

Shelter worker Savanna Palmer on TikTok shared a peek at what a difference offering a dog a place to stay outside of the kennel can make in their lives, and it's obvious once you see this sweet girl sleeping like she's been waiting weeks to get some quality shut eye.

"When you bring a shelter dog home for the weekend for emotional support after losing your dog and they are catching up on all the sleep they've lost at the shelter," Savanna wrote in the video.

The footage shows her foster pup snoozing away on multiple occasions, all bundled up with a blanket in a dog bed. Those naps must have been incredible!

If your local animal shelters are anything like mine, overcrowding is probably an issue — and the situation becomes even more dire when the temperatures drop, especially when these shelters rely on outdoor kennels that are no longer safe when it's too cold outside.

This is why you might notice so many shelters and similar facilities asking for foster parents to step up and welcome a dog into their family until the weather calms down, and though it can obviously be a huge commitment, it's also such a beautiful thing to do. Judging by how soundly this Pit Bull was sleeping, there's no doubt that there are plenty of animals just like her who could also use this kind of respite.

As one South Carolina shelter pointed out in their ask for help in January, having foster parents step in also allows them to help other animals who would otherwise be stranded in the cold by making room for them to take them in.

Pups like this Pit Bull are so lucky to have a little break from the shelter life — and to catch up on sleep somewhere warm, safe, and quiet.

As a pet parent, I have often wondered just how much our dogs truly understand when we talk to them. While there is no real way to know for sure, I have always believed they hear far more than we give them credit for.

If you are still on the fence, Ceili the Shih Tzu might just make you a believer.

This little sweetheart had not been feeling her best and was dealing with an upset tummy. Her dad tried to help by offering a bland meal, but Ceili was not impressed. The organic white rice and venison sitting in front of her clearly weren't what she had ordered, and she wasn't having it.

Luckily, Mom had the camera rolling because what happened next is one of those blink-and-you-miss-it moments that dog parents often wish we could have captured.

Ceili seemed to think she was feeling well enough for her regular meal, so she was holding out for something better. Her dad softly explained that the bland food was to help her stomach settle, but she remained unconvinced. Until he casually mentioned one word that she clearly understood.

The moment he said "vet," Ceili's attitude changed completely. Without hesitation, she started eating, as if she had suddenly decided the meal was delicious after all.

It is hard not to laugh at how quickly she made that decision. While it is well known that many dogs recognize certain words, the timing of Ceili's response makes a solid case that she knew exactly what was being discussed and what was at stake. As a pet parent, I have watched my dogs pick up more than a few words over the years, even learning to recognize phrases we thought we had cleverly hidden.

Based on the comments, Ceili's reaction struck a chord with many other dog parents as well. One viewer joked, " She said, you know what, on second thought it's actually not that bad," while another added, "Classic Shih Tzu behavior.""

Most importantly, Ceili’s mom, Meghan, shared that she is feeling much better now, which made the entire exchange even sweeter to watch. You can see her lounging in her mom’s lap in this Instagram shared on January 31:

According to VCA Hospitals, bland diets are commonly recommended for dogs experiencing digestive upset because they are easy to digest and gentle on the stomach. Simple foods like plain white rice, paired with a lean protein, can help soothe the gastrointestinal tract while giving it time to recover. These diets are typically temporary and are used to help dogs return to normal eating once symptoms improve.

For Ceili, that bland meal was not exactly appealing, but it served an important purpose. And while the "vet" may have been the deciding factor in getting her to eat, the result was what mattered most: a pup on the mend and a moment that perfectly captured just how perceptive our dogs can be.

Certain breeds have features that are specific to their genetic lineage. Poodles are known for their petite physique and coat of curls, Golden Retrievers have that honey-hued fur and gregarious personality, and German Shepherds boast a muscular body and those iconic pointy ears.

Pit Bulls are often recognized for their broad skull, cropped ears, and powerful jaws. Though these canine cuties usually have a short-haired coat, Theo is a Pittie with a very eye-catching hairstyle thanks to something he inherited from his parents.

In the TikTok from @joannaleighmeadow, Theo sat in front of the camera, sporting a long-haired, almost shaggy coat that looked nothing like a typical Pittie. The hair on top of his head was a bit spiky, yet his adorable face was short-haired and framed by a fluffy mane. Theo's floppy ears sprouted long strands of hair, adding to the non-Pit-like look.

Photos of Theo's parents revealed that they are both short-haired Pit Bulls who carry the "recessive gene FGF5". This resulted in Theo and some of his siblings inheriting a mutated hair gene, which prompts the growth of a very unique coat.

"Four out of the nine came out with the mutated hair gene," the onscreen text explained of Theo's littermates. "This was not done intentionally and even if you know that both parents are carriers, it still does not guarantee the mutation will occur."

Theo's striking appearance clearly sparks curiosity and causes people to do a double-take. The video was posted with the caption, "Hope this answered some questions!"

This specific genetic variant can appear in any dog breed, which allows hair to continue to grow.

"Several genetic variants have been associated with long hair in dogs," veterinary genecist Dr. Jenna Dockweiler said, according to Newsweek. "These are located in the FGF5 gene, which ordinarily tells the hair when to stop growing. When there is a variant within this gene, that signal is disrupted, allowing the hair to grow longer."

Dogs have to inherit this gene from both parents to have that head-turning long-haired coat.

"So far, all of these variants within this gene are recessive, meaning a dog needs two copies of the variant in order to grow long hair — meaning they will need to inherit one copy from each parent," she added.

Our perceptions of baby deer are undoubtedly informed by animated images, but fawns are not as fragile and helpless as they are portrayed. Fawns are fast, independent creatures who grow quickly into majestic adults.

Most white-tailed deer babies (like the one in this video) arrive in May or June and weigh just six to eight pounds at birth. Fawns can stand and walk within hours of birth and run well within days. By two weeks old, they’re already impressively quick — and built to escape danger. They can also reach nearly ten times their birth weight by their first winter.

Seeing a fawn alone in the wild isn't cause for concern. Mother deer intentionally leave their fawns while they forage. Newborns instinctively lie still, blend into their surroundings with their spotted coats, and give off very little scent — all smart survival tactics. If a baby deer looks healthy and is resting quietly, it does not need help. Mom is nearby and will return to nurse several times a day.

Female fawns usually establish home ranges near their mothers, while males typically leave around one year old to find new territory. Older, healthy does often give birth to twins — and sometimes triplets — especially in areas with abundant food.

For a little cutie-pie confused about ramps, Digit is doing big things by spreading awareness about her IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) journey.

The condition is a spinal disorder that happens when discs between the vertebrae bulge or rupture, which puts pressure on the spinal cord and can be quite painful. Along with that comes a slew of neurological symptoms, with some becoming paralyzed. The disease is common in Dachshunds (and other breeds like Beagles, Shih-Tzus, or Corgis) but it can be treated if caught early.

Around 1 in 4 dachshund may be affected at some stage in their lives.
