Golden Retriever Is the Most Popular Kid on the Block Every Snow Day
There are neighborhood kids… and then there is the neighborhood Golden Retriever who apparently has a full social calendar.
On this particular snow day, a sweet young boy walks up to the front door carrying a sled. The Ring camera catches him knocking and politely asking if Wynn, the Golden Retriever, can come outside to play. That is the whole request. Not for a friend. Not for a classmate. For the dog.

♬ original sound - ESPNThe adorable video was shared on the TikTok account @espn with the caption, “Neighborhood kids knock on door to invite our dog to go play with them.”
And when Wynn hears what is happening? She absolutely bounds outside like she just got drafted into the Snow Day Olympics.
Related: Video of Pack of Dogs Joyfully Playing in the Snow Will Brighten Your Day
She is thrilled. The tail is going. The energy is off the charts. You can feel the pure joy through the screen.
The comments were just as wholesome. “To live in a neighborhood where kids can just play, and you can let your dog out without a worry,” one person wrote. Another added, “Wynn also needs a coat, sled, and snow boots.” Someone else said, “She is so happy to play!” And truly, she is. One viewer summed it up perfectly: “Best thing I have watched all week.”
Meanwhile, our own Pomeranian, Kingston, would absolutely never. The second snow hits his tiny paws, he looks betrayed. The snow comes up halfway to his chest, and he does the fastest little shuffle just to handle his business before sprinting back inside. He would never answer a knock at the door with a sled in hand. Wynn, however, lives for it.
She is the most popular kid on the block, and she knows it.

Maine Coon Cat Brings All the Drama After Being Told He Can't Have More Treats
Some cats take their food very seriously, and of course, that extends to treats — why wouldn't it? Whether you're offering up something crunchy, something lickable like a Churu tube, or a few pieces of their favorite kibble, it's pretty easy to guarantee a cat will come running when it's treat time.
Unfortunately, it can't be treat time all the time, and that's a lesson that one very dramatic Maine Coon named Mugen is learning the hard way.
@mugenkoonHis sweater makes him look extra menacing (except for his FUPA hanging out) 😹😹 In our defence, he already 3 churus that day… #mainecoon #catsoftiktok #catlovers #catsbeingcats #dramatic
♬ original sound - Mugen the Maine Coon 🇨🇦This TikTok video shared by cat mom @mugenkoon shares the reaction that Mugen gives her when he is cut off from treats, and it's pure drama.
There he is, at the top of his cat tree, facing the wall — he won't even look at his mom at this point.
And regardless of how adorable he looks in that red sweater, he is giving off some rather menacing vibes (though it may be a bit of an overreaction when this mood is just about not having even more treats than he already has that day).
At least he knows how to express himself!
Related: Maine Coon Kitten Crew Looks Like a Stunning Rainbow Mosaic
How Many Treats Per Day Is Healthy for a Cat?Offering up daily treats to your kitties is absolutely fine, but Mugen is going to be a bit disappointed to hear that his humans are right — there does have to be a line drawn somewhere.
As WebMD points out, cats (and dogs) should not be getting more than 10% of their daily calories from treats, so it's important to ensure that the bulk of their diet is made up of the food they eat, not the treats they're clamoring over.
It's up to you whether you spend this calorie allowance on a couple big treats a day or smaller treats scattered throughout the day. That second strategy might work a little better for cats like Mugen, though; their brains may be tricked into thinking they're having a lot more treats than they actually are!
In the end, it all comes down to keeping our cats safe and healthy, even if they might throw a bit of a fit from time to time.

18-Year-Old Cat Gets Most Beautiful Happy Ending After Being Surrendered and Everyone's in Tears
Finding a loving home for a kitten is a relatively easy task, but when it comes to senior cats, it becomes a lot more challenging. Not only do older cats tend to have medical issues or specialized diets that must be followed, but many people worry about adopting a new family member for such a short time (and the devastation that follows).
But providing senior cats with all the love they deserve when they need it most is such a beautiful thing to do, so it's no wonder that people are feeling a bit emotional after seeing 18-year-old Elderberry find her happy ending in the video below.
@frangrzesikElderberry is settling into her forever home. Thank you to everyone who shared her story as you all truly made a difference in finding her family. Thank you Danielle for opening your heart and home to such a sweet senior girl. 😭🤍🫂 Grandma Cocoa is currently looking for her forever home as well, we don’t know much about her besides that she is 15. I’m sending you all so much love, and thank you for changing the lives of these animals. I love you guys so much😭 #adopt #adoptdontshop #cat #catadoption #catsoftiktok
♬ Die On This Hill - SIENNA SPIROOne good human who works at an animal rescue, @frangrzesik, shared a happy update about one of the cats they recently took in: Elderberry, who was surrendered by her former humans due to no fault of her own, has found the perfect forever home.
A woman named Danielle is the lucky one who gets to bring Elderberry home, and it's hard not to tear up a little bit seeing this sweet cat leaving the shelter.
"I’m so thankful she found them. She deserves them, and I think they will all be so happy together," the OP wrote in a comment on the post.
Too sweet!

Elderberry's StoryElderberry was never guaranteed a happy ending like this; in fact, things were looking much more grim for this sweet cat when the shelter first shared her story.
On January 4, the rescue introduced their followers to this sweet kitty, sharing for the first time that she had been surrendered by her human in her old age and left to find a new family — something that isn't easy to do for senior cats.
@frangrzesikUpdate! Elderberry has received multiple amazing adoption applications and will be in the road to being adopted soon. Once she goes home I will update everyone. Thank you for advocating for Elderberry🥹🤍🫂 Meeting Elderberry truly broke my heart. She was relinquished due to no fault of her own. Elderberry is not posted on our website yet since she still needs to be medically evaluated, but we would love to find her a home to go into as soon as possible once she is cleared. A shelter is no place for a senior cat. If you have any questions about Elderberry please message me directly and if you fall head over heels for her and want to adopt her please submit an adoption application at nawsus.org. I’m sending you guys all of my love, let’s get this girl into her forever home. 😭🫂🤍 #adopt #adoptdontshop #catsoftiktok #cat #catadoption
♬ childhood - daniel.mp3 & ZamaroShe is so precious, and it's no wonder that the humans at the shelter were concerned that she might "fall through the cracks" because of her age.
"She won't let us pick her up, but has shown us so much love in such a short amount of time," they wrote in that first video.
Fortunately, after her videos went viral on TikTok, they had no problem finding the perfect new mom for her.
It's so heartwarming that Elderberry will be able to live out her final years with a family and home of her own, just like she (and every senior cat) deserves.

New York City’s Beloved Shop Cats Could Soon Be Protected by Law
New York City is famous for a lot of things, but its corner stores and bodegas are a huge part of the city’s natural charm. Just as beloved are the cats that patrol many of the five boroughs’ bodegas, giving customers a familiar face to interact with while grabbing their morning coffee, or keeping watch for intruders like mice and other vermin.
While having a cat in a retail shop certainly isn’t the norm in every city, it’s a very common and downright wholesome occurrence in NYC that most New Yorkers wouldn’t dream of changing. And as a bill gains traction in the state legislature that would establish health and safety standards for cats living in retail stores, it looks like the city’s famous felines could soon be getting some added protection of their own.

What is a Bodega Cat? View this post on InstagramTo understand what a bodega cat is, first you have to know about bodegas. On nearly every block throughout the city, bodegas are small mom and pop shops that sell daily essentials, from snacks and beverages to lottery tickets and household cleaning supplies alike. Many also have deli counters serving hot and cold sandwiches, quick appetizers and more, typically run by local owners who know their regulars by name and keep the place running late into the night.
Bodega cats come in many shapes and sizes, often found lounging on a stack of soda cases, snuggled behind a row of chips or grazing in a ray of sun without a care in the world. They’re often friendly, coming up to inspect shoppers as they pay for their things, and sometimes standoffish, as cats tend to be. And while some might have a knee jerk reaction to their presence, bodega cats feel like a necessary addition to the shopping experience that makes your favorite neighborhood spot feel even more at home.

Proposed Law Could Protect Cats Living in NYC Retail StoresAccording to local reports, Lidia Aguabia’s partner in crime, Pancha, who joins her at the flower stand at Clinton Fruit Market in Hell’s Kitchen, is just one of the thousands of bodega cats that inspired a proposed bill in the state legislature. The bill would establish official health and safety guidelines for cats living in retail food stores, which includes standards like regular vet check-ups, vaccines and designated “cat zones” separate from food prep areas.
View this post on Instagram"Animals are love, animals are happiness and animals have to be a responsibility for everyone," Aguabia said in an interview.
While the bill is still making its way through the legislative process, it recently reached a milestone, moving to the Agriculture Committee this month. Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal, who represents Manhattan’s Upper West Side, introduced the bill last spring.
"If you adopt an animal from the shelter, they have to be spayed or neutered,” Rosenthal told viewers. “You know, no telling where those kitties come from that live in bodegas. But just to make sure they work, keeping mice and other vermin away, but they should also have access to a good place to rest, good food, and water."
It’s worth noting that this proposal is separate from city legislation introduced last year, which would make it easier for stores with cats to stay in compliance, as under current health codes their presence is technically a no-go. If this new bill passes, a lot of responsibility will fall on business owners to provide proper care for their feline employees.
But one thing is clear, while laws may change in one direction or another, the city will always love its friendly neighborhood bodega cat. And if state legislators are willing to work with owners rather than make their cats’ presence in stores illegal, it would be a major win for cat lovers everywhere.

Elephants are one of the smartest species on the entire planet. They're probably smarter than us in most ways, to be honest. They know exactly what they need to do, and they get it done.
Apparently, they also believe in "work hard, play hard." When a small group of elephants was given awesome dinosaur socks for their trunks, they were beside themselves! They couldn't resist having fun:

Precious Dachshund-Corgi Mix Looks Like the Cutest Little Stuffed Animal
My Pug mix is a rescue from Puerto Rico and I'm convinced he's part Corgi. He's definitely a low rider and has that barrel-like build of both breeds. I see other characteristics of a Corgi, like over-the-top cuteness, and since that breed has become a popular hybrid option, I suspect it's in his genetic line.
Lottie is a Dachshund-Corgi mix and also off-the-charts adorable, where she almost resembles a plushie toy.
@emilyjennetteShe’s still a puppy but I’m so excited to see what she looks like full grown! - So far I’ve learned that dorgi’s are very sweet and loyal dogs. She follows me everywhere and she’s constantly under my feet. She can learn a trick within 2-3 days and she’s *almost* fully house trained. She’s so smart, I love her sm😭🩷 her name is Lottie btw :) #dorgi #corgi #dachshund #dog #puppy
♬ original sound - 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐬In the TikTok from @emilyjennette, Lottie stood in front of the camera and practically posed for her mom. "Ever seen a Dorgi?" the onscreen text asked. "Corgi + Dachshund."
Lottie's tan and white fur was perfectly proportioned for her little body. She tilted her head and had one ear lifted, making her look like a puppy stuffed animal that you just want to cuddle. The post shared some details on the canine cutie.
"She’s still a puppy but I’m so excited to see what she looks like full grown!" the caption explained. "So far I’ve learned that Dorgis are very sweet and loyal dogs. She follows me everywhere and she’s constantly under my feet. She can learn a trick within 2-3 days and she’s *almost* fully house-trained. She’s so smart, I love her so much."
Followers chimed in with their praise of the precious puppy and noted that Lottie may end up being quite, um, let's say, 'assertive' as an adult.
"She’s gonna have so much attitude you won’t know what to do," one shared.
"Stop it!!! I can't handle the cuteness! Now I want a Dorgi!!" another remarked.
"How’s the attitude on that one? lol - Knowing the personality of Corgis and Dachshunds, I can only imagine," a follower joked.
"Cute but definitely gonna have an attitude... lol," someone posted.
Key Traits of DorgisDachshund-Corgi mixes are loving dogs that carry a lot of confidence. Their personality packs a lot in those short-legged bodies. Dorgis exhibit qualities from both breeds:
Related: Unique Chihuahua-Pit Bull Mix Has the Sweetest Face You'll Ever See
- Energetic and Playful: These canines love to run, jump, and play, and need regular exercise.
- Loyal and Affectionate: Dorgis are faithful dogs who love to snuggle and are very attached to their loved ones.
- Smart but Stubborn: They have high intelligence from both hereditary lines along with a bit of a stubborn streak, which can be tempered with obedience training.
- Protective and Alert: These hybrids may be small, but Dorgis are mighty and make wonderful watchdogs. They're always on alert and bark to warn their parents of anything that needs attention.
- Social but Wary of Strangers: Dorgis tend to be cautious with strangers but warm up in time. Early socialization helps them become more accepting of others outside their family.
And as Lottie so clearly demonstrates, these dogs are downright irresistible.

Bold Cockatoo Steals Treat From Her Brother ‘Like Taking Candy From a Baby'
Siblings steal from each other; it's just part of what we do. Right before I sat down to write this, I stole my sister's lotion. She steals more things from me than I can keep track of, too. I've just given up.
Apparently, the good old Stealthy Sibling Stealing transcends species. Recently, a Cockatoo got caught red-taloned stealing a treat from her African Grey Parrot brother, and it could not have been more perfect:
@theparrotladyWatch my cockatoo try to steal her brothers food 😂🤦🏻♀️ #cockatoo #drama #parrot #funnyanimals
♬ original sound - bollybeoThe Parrot Lady has her hands full with all of these cuckoo birds, that's for sure. They're incredibly lucky that she loves them all as dearly as she does! She would never trade any of these sassy creatures for anything. She has several, including:
- Sweet Pea, a Cockatoo.
- Brody, an African Grey Parrot.
- Polly, an Amazon Parrot who actually loves crackers.
Sweet Pea, however, would trade any one of her siblings for a good enough snack. As her name suggests, she is a very sweet bird. When there are snacks involved, though, this parrot does not play.

In this video, she's stealing some food from her brother, Brody. It looks like a piece of carrot! A yummy treat he doesn't get every day, and here she is, stealing it out from under him.
She does this all the time. In case it wasn't obvious, Sweet Pea is kind of the star of the show here: she gets what she wants, and takes what she can't have anyway. When she doesn't, she does things like this:
@theparrotladySo you’re ready to get your first parrot and you’ve decided to get a cockatoo. Did you do your research and has anyone been honest with you about how LOUD they are? Cockatoos are some of the loudest birds on the planet and this also leads to them being the most rehomed and surrendered parrot. Many people get a cockatoo thinking they will be cute and cuddly and having no idea about the ear piercing screams which sometimes come from their little bodies. It’s always good to do in depth research before adopting any animal, but parrots are truly deserve in depth research before choosing to buy or adopt. #cockatoo #parrots #noise #truth #adoptdontshop
♬ Messy - Funny SongsSweet Pea is a rescue. She spent several years living a hard life, and now she's treated like a princess. It's what she deserves!
Cockatoos Are GreedySweet Pea's actions are genuinely such classic Cockatoo behavior. Cockatoos don't think about manners as we do; they tend to go after whatever they want. This can lead to them being:
- Loud.
- Aggressive.
- Possessive over everything.
Unfortunately, cockatoos aren't simple birds. They require experienced caretakers, and even then, you're going to have good days and bad days. Cockatoos are one of the most commonly misunderstood and subsequently rehomed parrot species.
Luckily, Sweet Pea has landed somewhere she's loved and cared for. I hope she gets to stay that way forever!

We Cannot Get Enough of Toonie the Raccoon Snacking on Cheese Balls
A comical raccoon named Toonie is making TikTok viewers a little jealous by skillfully noshing on cheese balls without a care in the world. From her gentle crunching to her focused little paws, Toonie is the epitome of snacking goals in a video, which feels like ASMR made for animal lovers.
"This raccoon is doing better than me. Why can’t someone feed me snacks while I lounge?" asks one viewer.
While another says, "In the chaos that’s spinning around us, this is so completely satisfying. Thank you."
Toonie is as relaxed as can be as she deftly plucks cheese balls from a pink princess cup and pops them into her mouth one by one. She throws her head back and crunches contentedly while her other hand remains clenched around the lip of the cup.
"Toonie had a death grip on the cup. Not a chance you are taking snacks away," observes one fan.
@toonie.tod ♬ original sound - Toonie, Tod & the 🌶️ kittiesAnd when Toonie finishes the last of the snacks, she resorts to chomping down on the cup itself.
"You can have it," laughs her mom while relinquishing the cup to Toonie's capable little paws.
Related: Golden Retriever Stands Just Like a Human in Anticipation of Devouring Pup Cup
The Talented Miss ToonieRaccoons are much more than masked bandits. They are wildly smart, multi-talented, and nimble creatures who cause mischief because they can. They’re skilled problem-solvers with cognitive abilities comparable to a young child, using their intelligence to open latches, solve puzzles, and adapt quickly to new environments. And Toonie demonstrates, raccoons have remarkably dexterous front paws with hypersensitive touch receptors. They can turn doorknobs, untie knots, and skillfully forage in water — abilities that help them thrive in urban and suburban spaces
Ever observe a raccoon dunking food in water? They aren’t washing it — they’re enhancing their sense of touch. Water heightens their tactile sensitivity, helping them better identify what they’re about to eat. It’s quirky, yes, but incredibly effective.
Raccoons don’t just lumber along on dry land; they are also excellent swimmers. While they snack on fruits and nuts — and cheese balls, apparently -- they also hunt fish, frogs, and crayfish, swimming at speeds of up to three miles per hour.
And those iconic dark masks they wear? They aren't just a fashion statement; those special markings help reduce glare and may enhance night vision — similar to athletes wearing eye black.
From climbing buildings to crossing busy streets, raccoons have adapted impressively to human-dominated environments. The keys to existing peacefully with raccoons are to safeguard your home and avoid making them feel too welcome. Always secure trash bins, animal-proof any entry points to your home like chimneys, and avoid feeding them both directly and indirectly. Regularly leaving food outside for stray cats or after dining al fresco can create a recipe for trouble by encouraging raccoons to hang around and to become dependent on your leftovers.

Golden Retriever Making Mom ‘Hold His Hand’ Is a Full-Time Job
Everyone wants to talk about emotional support dogs, but as the mom of a dog who needs near-constant emotional support, I would like to point out that those are more common than you think.
Take this Golden Retriever for example: he needs his mom to hold his paw. Through thick, thin, and literally everything else, he's always waiting. If there's one thing Zebby is not about to do, it's be lonely!

Golden Retrievers Can Be PickyGolden Retrievers may be eager to please and on the easier side when it comes to training, but make no mistake: these dogs can be incredibly particular.
Golden Retrievers may be picky about everything, or only certain things, such as:
- Their food.
- Their treats.
- Their favorite people.
- The places they like to sleep.
- The toys they play with.
Zebby loves a tennis ball, but it can't be too dirty. He also doesn't like them too old: they need to be new and springy! It's an honor to be chosen by Zebby; I bet all tennis balls (and his mom) would agree!

Feisty Ragdoll Cats Fight Just Like Human Siblings and It's Too Funny
Brothers and sisters often fight. It’s just the way things are when a family lives under the same roof. It could be a simple misunderstanding or a deeper conflict, but at the end of the day, love is the common denominator. Well, usually.

Of course, it’s common for kittens and young cats to engage in roughhousing because all feline play consists of mock aggression. Cats stalk, chase, sneak, pounce, swat, kick, scratch, ambush, attack, and bite each other—all in good fun, according to the ASPCA.
I think these two are just getting out some energy, but I’m still keeping an eye on them because of all that hissing!
Do Cats Hiss When Play Fighting? While it’s a little scary to hear your little ones hissing at each other, hissing during play is normal. However, when it becomes more frequent, it may be time to call in a behavioral expert, as there could be an underlying issue that’s causing a problem.

Hand the English Labrador puppy is a perfect example, where he recently realized he had a tail and it totally upended his day.
@hanktheenglishlabPracticing stairs took a bit of a detour for Hank today! At least he learned something new 😂🤪 #puppytiktok #puppy #funny #funnyanimals #fyp
♬ Monkeyshine-JP - Lt FitzGibbons MenIn the TikTok from @hanktheenglishlab, the precious puppy was at the top of the stairs trying to figure out how to get to the bottom. As he was plotting his strategy on navigating this new terrain, Hank happened to turn his head and spotted something strange.
A long and furry tail-like object seemed to wag at his every whim and Hank was completely mystified. The challenge of the steps was shelved as the puppy's attention turned to his back end, where he literally did a double take at what he saw.
"He discovered his tail while learning to go down stairs," the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, "Practicing stairs took a bit of a detour for Hank today! At least he learned something new."
The playful pup stood up and attempted to grab his tail with his mouth, yet somehow it kept slipping away. Hank's expression showed his confusion as he tried to figure out another angle. He lay on the floor and was able to latch onto his tail until he stood up, where it was out of reach once again.
The fur baby definitely got an A for effort as he tried sneaking up on his tail, chasing it, and other tactics for capture. Hank's fascination and frustration over his tail were pure puppy cuteness at its best. The newfound discovery probably took up most of his day.
Hank Has a Fan BaseViewers of the video fell in love with Hank and were completely charmed by the canine cutie, posting a slew of comical comments.

“Wait, mom. I gotta figure out what this thing is first,” someone remarked.
Hopefully, Hank's mom will continue to post his daily discoveries and the adorable antics that ensue.

German Shepherd-Newfoundland Mix Is the Goofiest Ball of Fluffy Fun
There's nothing better to a dog lover than those ultra-fluffy, super shiny puppy coats. They smell so good, too! It's only natural to wish they could stay that way forever and ever.
Right now, there's one very shiny, very fluffy German Shepherd-Newfoundland mix puppy who's winning at life. He's having a blast being the cutest puppy ever, and his fluff is truly unmatched:
@brunothenewshep ♬ original sound - Indie🐾❤️Bruno the Newfoundland Shepherd is the most precious boy the world has ever seen. He's just a baby, too: they only just got him around Christmas. That makes three adorable dogs in this house:
- Bruno, a Newfoundland Shepherd.
- Penny, a Goldendoodle.
- Grizzly, a Red and Black Lab mix.
Right now, Bruno is a perfect mix of both of his parent breeds. While his coat is definitely giving Newfoundland (look at the little white patch on his chest!), the shape of his ears and his body overall are more German Shepherd!

Being that he's the baby, Bruno is really getting whatever he wants these days. He's having a lot of fun, and when he and his siblings go on walks, all heads turn. They take the neighbors' breath away!
Bruno is definitely the favorite child, though. It's not his fault; Newfoundland Shepherds are such amazing dogs, and they grow up to have stunning coats. I'm just obsessed with him:

Adorable Ragdoll Cat Makes the Cutest Little Sous-Chef
Cooking time is family time, and there’s no better way to prepare meals than having your loved ones in the kitchen with you!
That’s especially true with one adorable Ragdoll cat!
“Making dinner with my sous-chef,” Momo the Ragdoll’s pet mamma shares in a sweet TikTok post. “Making sure things are being done right in the kitchen.”

“You have to slice those carrots better, ease up on the salt, and for goodness sake, mix everything longer,” I imagine this little furball thinking.

Fans can’t get enough of this precious kitty despite having some concerns about using that bowl at mealtime.
“As a cat mom, I totally get it, but before I had my own busy kitchen buddies sniffing around, I probably would've found this hard to swallow,” said one viewer. “And I'm not alone.”
“This is why you CANNOT eat everyone’s cooking,” added another viewer.
“I’d still eat at your house,” a third person said.

Now, I was never extended an invitation, but I’d still be on the fence because Ragdolls shed quite a bit, and, umm, require some additional "maintenance" as Momo’s mom shares in another clip, which may or may not be on the same counter.
Still, Momo is just the cutest, and I’m sure this little angel's mom runs a tight ship in the kitchen, and that bowl is going straight into the sink.
I wish my kitties would hang out with me when I cook. Occasionally, they’ll come over to say hello when they want a taste of something, but for the most part, they’re happier on a windowsill waiting for a bird or two to fly by.
Why Do Cats Curl Up Into a Ball?I think the cutest part of this clip is when Momo actually curls up into a ball!
Cats do this for warmth. By turning into a ball, they conserve heat, and in essence, make themselves a natural blanket!
Momo is just the sweetest, and I hope she shares a nice warm meal with Mama!
Brussels Griffon Dressed Like a Mini Cow Throws an Adorable 'Stompy' Fit for a Chew
I don't know what it is, but the chokehold that chews have on my dogs is wild. I've spent no less than $97,637,634 on the only ones they'll accept, and even then, it's hit or miss. When they don't get one, that's when I get the full dramatic performance meant to convince or manipulate me into giving them one, which, of course, I do!
This is exactly how one Brussels Griffonnamed Sway feels when Mom won't give her a chew. Dressed in her adorable mini cow outfit would make it hard for me to deny her, but it's the little fit she throws (channeling my dogs!) that takes it over the top!

10-Minute-Old Mini Alpaca Is 'Cuteness Overload' Taking First Steps
Watching a baby take its first steps is a hallmark of anyone’s parenting journey. For pet lovers, watching a baby animal walk for the first time can feel just as meaningful. In a viral social media moment recently shared by an exotic animal rescue farm, a mini Alpaca can be seen learning to walk just minutes after being born, leaving viewers feeling like proud parents and calling the little one “cuteness overload.”
In a TikTok video shared by @redkoalas, the ten-minute-old Mini Alpaca can be seen getting her sea legs indoors as she takes her first steps. The baby girl is wobbly but determined, standing on all fours as she works to navigate her body around the room. She’s charming in her curiosity, taking in the world around her by looking, observing, and exploring her surroundings, all while focusing on balance and stability.

This tiny newborn is standing and moving her legs after just ten minutes of life. Alpacas typically stand within 15 to 30 minutes after being born and begin walking within their first 30 to 90 minutes. While baby alpacas may be wobbly at first, they are known to get on their feet quickly in an effort to keep up with their mothers. Within a day, most alpacas are steady enough to run and play.
The heartwarming video is capturing the attention of viewers across social media, delivering the kind of feel-good content people never seem to tire of. Many viewers were so charmed by the mini alpaca’s early attempts at walking that they joked about adding a mini alpaca to their own family.
“So cute, I need a rescue farm,” exclaimed one delighted viewer.“

The Real Origin of Groundhog Day—And How It Can Be Traced Back to the Ancient Christian Celebration of Candlemas Day
We've all heard about a little groundhog that can (maybe) predict the coming of spring with just his shadow. And while Groundhog Day is a uniquely American tradition, but its roots come from across the Atlantic.
The February 2 holiday can actually be traced back to the ancient Christian celebration of Candlemas Day, the halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox where clergy would bless and distribute candles needed for winter. Germany added something extra to these festivities: They used a hedgehog to predict the weather, saying if the hedgehog saw its shadow, they'd endure six more weeks of bad weather.

Between 1725 and 1775, a swath of Germans made their way to the United States, many of them settling in Pennsylvania, per Time. They kept their Candlemas tradition, replacing the hedgehog with a groundhog since they were plentiful in the area.

Pennsylvania newspaper Punxsutawney Spirit published a story about the groundhog festivities in 1886, and the next year, the city embraced the celebration and held the first Groundhog Day at Gobbler’s Knob. The newspaper's editor (who belonged to a group of groundhog hunters) declared that Phil, Punxsutawney's groundhog, was the nation's only weather-forecasting rodent.
But why does the groundhog actually emerge? The critters go into hibernation in the late fall and peek out in February to look for a mate before burrowing back underground. They're fully awake come March.

Golden Retriever Scolding Mom As She's Picked Up From Boarding Will Make You LOL
TikTok viewers are cracking up over Rosie the Golden Retriever, who gives her mom a full lecture after being picked up from boarding. Her expressive reaction makes it hilariously unclear, however, whether she’s thrilled to be reunited—or still holding a grudge. Her loud mouth seems to be saying one thing while her wagging tail is definitely saying another.
Normally, it's the human sounding off on their pet, but in this case, it's Rosie who is giving her parents a piece of her mind. She initially runs through the door without hesitation, but then stops herself when she realizes it's her parents who are there to greet her. It's as if she suddenly remembers how they abandoned her while going on vacation and decides to air her grievances. With her tail betraying her the entire time, Rosie chews out her parents while they giggle and call her name from behind the camera. She ultimately succumbs to her excitement, however, and runs to her mama for hugs. She's so overcome, in fact, that she pees a little bit after being happily reunited.
As one person joked in the comments, "She was happy and then remembered she was supposed to be mad."

It's hard to know exactly what Rosie was getting off her chest (boy, would we love a translation), but despite her big feelings, she likely had a safe and playful time while boarding. Whether we choose to board our beloved pets at a facility, a vet's office, with a private pet sitter, or with a loved one, there are things we can do to set them up for success.
Visit the boarding location ahead of time to make sure it's a clean, safe, and caring fit for your dog. In addition to being properly staffed and set up with basic amenities, you might want a place that also offers optional add-ons like extra walks, one-on-one cuddle time, baths, or full grooming. Go on a tour, read reviews, and even ask for personal references if you are choosing an individual pet sitter or a smaller boarding environment.
Because spots fill quickly—especially on weekends and holidays—it’s best to book well in advance. Be prepared to bring your pet’s food, medications, and vaccine records, and to pack a little extra just in case your return home is delayed.
There are also some don'ts to keep in mind, such as not sending your dog with irreplaceable favorite items, dragging out your goodbyes, or forgetting to confirm any requirements ahead of time.

That way, as a pet parent, you don't have to feel bad if you can't play with them 24/7 or cuddle them as much as you may like, as low-maintenance cats like to have their own space. They also tend to be more likely to entertain themselves, which can be a big perk if you’re searching for a pet who will share your home, but not be on top of you all the time.

The Abyssinian has a lot going on thanks to its love of staying busy, making it one of the best independent cats you can own. “Curious and intelligent, this self-sufficient breed loves to explore and interact with their environment,” says Liza Cahn, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. “While affectionate with their families, they are often too active and playful to spend much time curled up on your lap.”
The Abyssinian is happy to be in homes with a lot going on, but they need to be mentally stimulated to stay happy, according to Abel Gonzalez, DVM, clinical director and veterinarian at Dutch. That’s why Cahn recommends having feline enrichment like high perches, cat furniture and puzzle toys in the mix.

Still, there’s plenty more to love about the British Shorthair than a sweet appearance. “These teddy bear cats tend to be reserved, calm, and gentle,” Cahn says. So, you don’t need to stress about your pet suddenly tearing around your home or demanding attention. This cat enjoys its “me time” as much as you do.

California Makes Moves to Shut Down the 'Puppy Mill Pipeline' With 3 New Laws Taking Effect This Month
Organizations have been fighting against puppy mills for years. PETA, Humane World for Animals, Best Friends Animal Society, and others have brought the atrocities these places commit to the light, while partnering with local law enforcement agencies to shut them down. But it seems no matter their efforts, dogs are still being subjected to the inhumane practices of commercial breeders who care more about the bottom line than the animals in their care.
While fighting these unethical breeders helps, legislation is a significant part of the puzzle. Each year, more states enact laws and close loopholes that enable these commercial outfits to operate. In January, three California laws took effect, closing gaps in existing laws and attempting to shut down the puppy mill industry.

The Three Laws Making a Dent In Puppy Mills View this post on InstagramThe first law in this puppy mill fighting bundle is AB 506. Introduced by Ventura Assemblymember Steve Bennett, the bill aims to create more transparency when it comes to online pet brokers. It requires pet sellers to disclose the animals' origin and provide health information. The bill also removes the barrier of high-cost, non-refundable pet deposits. Too often, this is used to trap pet owners into a contract that ultimately delivers an unhealthy animal.
When Bennett first introduced the bill in 2025, he said in a press release, "Choosing our fur-ever companions is a meaningful, life-changing process. Families are entitled to know where their new dog/cat comes from and the conditions in which their pet grew up. By requiring sellers to provide more information up front and prohibiting the use of non-refundable deposits as a 'paywall', this bill will empower families in the adoption process."
California's AB519 from Menlo Park's Assemblymember Marc Berman stops third-party pet brokers from selling puppies, cats, and bunnies in the state. It specifically targets online brokers who often source their dogs from puppy mills. To round out the package, SB 312, introduced by Santa Ana Senator Thomas Umberg, requires health certificates to be submitted when dogs are brought into the state. The requirement is that, within 10 days of shipment, the California Department of Food & Agriculture has a certificate for each animal. Subsequently, the CDFA will provide the certificates as requested.
While these three were big wins for stopping puppy mills, they weren't the only pet-related laws the Governor signed. AB 867 bans cats from the inhumane practice of declawing, except for when medically necessary, and builds on the work the administration has been doing over the last five years to add additional protections to pets.
