Animal Rescue Builds 'Disney Land for Senior Street Dogs' and It's the Best

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 6:10pm

Niall Harbison's Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo, continues to expand. The best-selling author's global mission to help street dogs has gained international attention and Harbison isn't slowing down anytime soon.

After recently opening up a medical clinic to tend to street dogs, the animal advocate just announced another addition to Happy Doggo Land that's specifically for senior canines.

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo shared scenes from the rescue's newly designed permanent residence for senior dogs. In addition to a bright color scheme with fun tunnels and plenty of cozy blankets, the inviting oasis offers these precious pooches plenty of space to walk, play, or just rest.

"We built a Disney Land for senior street dogs," the onscreen text explained as Harbison led in one of the new residents. "They are the oldest and sickest street dogs. We thought they deserved to be pampered."

There are plenty of meals, medical care, and areas for each dog to have their own private space. These canine cuties also get to socialize with the rescue staff and fellow fur babies.

"The dogs have shelter, food, their own personal vet," the story continued, with scenes of the dogs playing together and having fun with the Happy Doggo team members. "They also create wonderful friendships with each other and their humans."

Golden Ticket Retirement Village Now Open

Harbison named this new chapter of his rescue the Golden Ticket Retirement Village and announced its official opening in the caption of his post.

"The team at the Land has been working tirelessly to make this dream a reality for the last couple of weeks," he wrote. "It’s thanks to our incredible community who helped us raise the funds that we’ve been able to make this happen."

The Happy Doggo founder wanted to provide these special canines with a nurturing, comfortable environment with all the love and care they need for the rest of their days.

"These dogs have spent their lives surviving the streets," the caption shared. "Now, they get to spend their golden years safe, secure and loved."

2.5-Pound Dachshund Conquering His 'Custom-Built' Stair Ramp Is the Cutest Thing on the Internet

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 5:16pm

Lars is just 2.5 pounds, but the tiny Dachshund is showing big-dog bravery as he conquers the custom-built stairs his humans created for him. The precious little pup is going viral on social media, all because he’s not letting a little thing like an entire flight of stairs get in his way of reuniting with his humans. Keep reading to check out one of the most adorable dog videos we’ve seen lately. It just may encourage you to get your own cuddly canine his or her own set of stairs, too.

In a video on our TikTok feed, little Lars, who weighs just 2.5 pounds, is seen standing at the bottom of his new home’s staircase.  With Dad standing at the top of the landing, camera phone in hand, the tiny Dachshund begins to make his way up the home’s custom-built dog ramp parallel to the home’s stairs.

While Dad encourages from his spot at the top of the stairs, offering a few “Come on, boy” and “Good job,” bits of encouragement, the charming Dachshund cautiously waddles his way up the ramp.

From Dad’s vantage point, the ramp looks steep. Considering the dog is just 2.5 pounds and is tackling the steep ramp like a boss, Lars’s fearless attack on the climb is as charming as it is inspiring.

Lars’ climb caught the eye of many social media viewers, impressed by his trek.  One commented, “Little baby accomplishing Mt. Everest multiple times a day.”  Another added, “Lars conquered his version of Mt Everest. He's the bravest boy.”

Another gushed, “Quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen.”

The viral video caught attention not just for Lars’ brave climb, but for his humans’ effort to put less pressure on the little Dachshund’s bag.  Like many long-bodied, short-legged dogs, Dachshunds are prone to back and hip problems, largely due to climbing stairs, jumping in and out of cars, or climbing on furniture.

Lars’ human parents’ custom-made ramp provides a terrific way for the pup to get up the stairs without being carried, and for his humans to take responsibility for his back and hips.

Velcro Golden Retriever’s Stern Face When Pets Stop Is Seriously Intense

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 3:55pm

If you’re a dog parent, you know that each pup has their own personality and preferences that go with it. Some doggies are cuddlier, while others prefer to always have their own space. Some dogs love long walks to explore new things, while others like the familiar. And then there are Velcro dogs, who are definitely in a league all of their own.

We see that be a true reality in this sweet video of a Golden Retriever who’s Velcroed to his mama and has the funniest reaction when the cuddles and pets stop, even for a split second.

@caiscoy

On January 30, 2025, @caiscoy shared a video of a very cute Golden Retriever named Theo, who is definitely more on the cuddling side of the personality perspective, and he's well into the Velcro dog category, too.

Theo is having a nap next to his mama, and the second, the literal second she moves her hand away from gently rubbing his belly because he looks like he's asleep, his head turns to look at his mom faster than anything I've seen. And his face has the cutest, saddest, most serious puppy eyes, as if he were asking why she has forsaken him, hammering home how betrayed he feels, which is equal parts hilarious and sad.

How To Help Your Velcro Dog With Their Anxiety

A dog who wants to cuddle and spend time with you is always a lovely thing—we want our pups to love us, right? But there are some situations where their desire to be together might tip more into the anxiety spectrum, and if it does, there are some things you can do to help ease the stress.

According to PetMD, a dog might be more clingy than healthy if they follow their humans around and constantly need physical contact. Typically, they'll also be really sensitive to being apart from their human, and it can start to cause issues like not being able to be apart without that anxiety coming out.

But there are some things you can do at home to help ease separation anxiety and reduce some of that Velcro grip, the site explains. Things like increasing their exercise, giving them more interactive toys, creating a special space for them, and getting your dog used to you leaving for short spurts are all good ways to combat stress.

But if your dog has a cute puppy dog look like Theo here, it's really cute to see that grumpy face.

Tutu-Wearing Dachshund Celebrates Birthday With a Cheeseburger Like the Queen She Is

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 2:54pm

Some dogs get a simple treat on their birthday. Cookie the Dachshund? She got a full royal treatment—complete with a purple tutu, admiring fans and a cheeseburger fit for canine royalty.

The adorable wiener dog turned 10 in a TikTok video that has pet lovers everywhere melting. Posted by @thedomesticgordita, the clip shows Cookie dressed in her birthday best: a purple ballerina skirt, crisp white tee and pink collar that screams "birthday girl."

As her family sings "Happy Birthday," Cookie sits patiently—her tail wagging so enthusiastically beneath that tutu that fans couldn't help but notice. "That tail is wagging under that ballerina skirt 🥰," one commenter wrote.

The star of the show? A perfectly presented cheeseburger that Cookie received as her birthday present. Though the video cuts before showing Cookie diving into her meaty gift, fans had opinions about that creative choice.

"How freaking dare you not show her enjoying her present😠," one playful commenter demanded, while another suggested, "she's thinking next year make it a double cheeseburger."

Why Do Dachshunds Make Such Adorable Birthday Stars?

These long-bodied pups—affectionately called "hot dogs" or "wiener dogs"—were originally bred in Germany for hunting. That courageous personality means they approach everything in life with confidence, including birthday celebrations.

Dachshunds typically live 12-16 years, making Cookie's 10th birthday a wonderful milestone worth celebrating. The breed comes in standard and miniature sizes, with three coat varieties: smooth, longhaired and wirehaired.

Related: Dachshund's Happy Prance While Using Wheelchair for First Time Is the Cutest Thing We've Ever Seen

Despite their small stature, these pups pack big personalities. They're intelligent, loyal and known for being wonderfully entertaining companions—qualities that shine through in Cookie's patient performance for the camera.

The Internet Can't Get Enough of This Birthday Girl

The comment section exploded with love for Cookie's special day. "Omg she is absolutely adorable her lil tutu just a shakin cuz her tail is waggin. Happy Birthday beautiful girl hope you have many many more," gushed one fan.

Others got emotional watching the sweet celebration. "Why am I crying!!????" asked one commenter, perfectly capturing the unexpected feels that come from watching a dog in a tutu receive a cheeseburger.

Several viewers praised Cookie's impeccable manners: "the way she patiently waited for you to finish singing 🥺❤️" noted one impressed commenter.

The video clearly resonated with fellow Dachshund parents too. "Okay I'm crying 😭 ♥️My ween turns 3 this month," shared one emotional viewer, proving that wiener dog birthdays hit different.

Whether Cookie eventually devoured that cheeseburger or savored it slowly, one thing's certain: this tutu-wearing birthday queen knows how to celebrate in style. Here's to many more tail-wagging years ahead, Cookie!

Pit Bull Tilts Her Head While Learning About Osteoarthritis and It’s So Sweet

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 12:55pm

If you’ve ever had a dog look at you like they fully understand English, this sweet Pit Bull is about to convince you she absolutely does. Charli, a light tan and white beauty, sits and listens while her mom calmly explains that they’ll be visiting Dr. Wrenth to take a look at her elbow since she’s been having a little trouble as she gets older.

The way Charli tilts her head back and forth while taking in every word is almost too much. She looks so serious. So invested. Like she is personally reviewing her medical chart.

The adorable clip, shared on TikTok by @house.of.payne, has people in the comments completely smitten. One person wrote, “Charli is obviously an active listener and wants to be very involved in her healthcare decisions.” Another said, “OMG, the head tilts!!! Freaking adorable.” Someone else joked, “Charli thinks this is a HIPAA violation, sweet baby,” which is especially funny because Pit Bulls are called house hippos.

Related: Senior Golden Retriever Trying to Include Herself With Younger Siblings Is So Bittersweet

Another commenter added, “Her neck definitely feels fine! I hope her elbow’s nothing serious,” and honestly, same.

As someone with an older pet, this one hits me right in the heart. My cat, Tarkus, is 12 now and has arthritis. He has to get shots at the vet to keep him comfortable, and even though he pretends he’s tough, I know he feels it. Watching Charli sit there and listen so carefully reminds me of how tuned in our pets are to us. They may not understand every word, but they absolutely understand love and tone.

Charli might not know what an X-ray is, but she knows her mom is looking out for her. And that’s what matters.

If your dog is starting to slow down, there are gentle ways to keep them comfortable and happy. Osteoarthritis is common in aging dogs, especially larger breeds like Pit Bulls, and early support makes a big difference.

Work closely with your veterinarian. They may recommend anti-inflammatory medication, joint supplements, like glucosamine and chondroitin, weight management strategies, or even physical therapy. Soft bedding, ramps instead of stairs, and keeping your dog at a healthy weight can also reduce stress on painful joints.

Most importantly, pay attention. Subtle changes like stiffness, limping, or hesitation to jump can be early signs. And if your pup starts tilting their head while you explain their treatment plan, just know they’re probably trying their very best to understand.

Cockatoo Asks Mom to Start Camera Recording and Pure Hilarity Ensues

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 12:51pm

One of the best things about having a pet bird, especially a chatty breed like a Cockatoo, is always having someone to talk to—even when no other humans are home. The downside? Cockatoos can be very demanding. Case in point: a video of a Cockatoo named Furby that recently crossed our social media feed and has us pressing repeat over and over again.

In the clever clip, Furby can be seen chatting with his humans while climbing around his perch. The delightful white Cockatoo first says hi to Mom—sweet enough—but then the demands begin.

“Hi Robin,” the bird says. Of course, Mom returns the greeting to her feathered friend.

“Press record,” Furby commands as he gets ready for his close-up. The chatty Cockatoo offers a few more hellos before, well, relieving himself mid-conversation. Take a peek at the hilarious video and keep reading for some of the most clever comments responding to Furby’s unforgettable moment.

#furbythebirb says #hi to his 💩

♬ original sound - Furby the Birb Furby’s Viral Moment Has Commenters Laughing

“Toddlers are proud of their accomplishments, as is Furby!” one commenter joked.

Another couldn’t ignore the irony of Furby’s timing, writing, “Hi there Furby and poops 💩, nice 🥰.”

“So he wants to be a show-off today,” commented another.

Others zeroed in on Furby’s word choice, with one writing, “Did Furby just call us a turd? Lol.”

Of course, Furby’s legions of fans also gushed over his humor. “Omg, his sense of humor. He is a piece of work 😂,” one wrote.

Before Furby and his fellow feathered friends earn a reputation for bad manners—or a penchant for bathroom talk—it’s worth noting that birds like Cockatoos and parrots relieve themselves regularly and often. Without muscular structures like a rectum or sphincter, these birds have no place to hold waste. In short, they walk and poop, even while chatting with Mom.

As for Furby’s demanding nature, that one’s harder to explain—except to say he’s clearly a “get to the point” kind of bird. There’s no small talk for this Cockatoo. When he sees Mom’s phone out and ready, he wants the camera rolling. Judging by the enthusiastic response to Furby’s video, fans want that too.

Thanks for the laugh, Furby. What’s next?

Caucasian Shepherd Helps With Mom’s Pushups Like the Best Personal Trainer

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 12:26pm

If you have ever tried to exercise with one of your dogs nearby, you already know how challenging it can be. They always seem to want to participate, even when they have not exactly been invited to class.

It is a familiar scene that leaves pet parents wondering what is really going through their minds. Do they think it is a game? Are they trying to protect us? Or did we just put ourselves in the perfect position for an extended petting session?

For one Caucasian Shepherd, it might be his protective instincts kicking in as Mom attempts a few pushups. Or maybe he simply decided to add a little extra resistance to her workout, just to keep her strong.

You can decide for yourself in a January 26 Instagram shared by @bigdogslittlevillage, where the Italian mountains in the background make the funny moment truly majestic.

View this post on Instagram

Rocky and Rambo were right by their mom’s side when she lowered herself to the ground and began her pushups. Her form looked solid, and she managed to get through a few good reps before one of her massive pups decided her shoulders were the perfect place to perch.

Related: Massive Caucasian Shepherd's Bedtime Hug for Brother Brings All the Feels

While adding weight to a workout can be beneficial, adding 100 pounds or more without warning is another story entirely. Still, if you have ever needed a very good excuse to pause your routine, this Livestock Guardian Dog provides a pretty convincing one.

Viewers could not get enough of the moment. One joked, “This is the gym version of ‘dog ate my homework,’” while another added, “Hi boss, can’t make it in today. I’m stuck under my dog.” A third admitted, “I have watched this way, way, way too many times, and I crack up every single time. Such big goofballs.”

Caucasian Shepherds Are Powerful Livestock Guardian Dogs

According to the American Kennel ClubCaucasian Shepherds were developed in the rugged Caucasus mountain region, where they were used for centuries to guard flocks, homes, and livestock from predators. They were bred to work independently in harsh conditions and are known for their size, strength, and deeply ingrained protective instincts.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

The AKC notes that adult Caucasian Shepherds are also impressively large, often weighing between 99 and 170 pounds. That size and strength are essential to the job they were bred for, allowing them to stand their ground against serious threats while remaining intensely loyal and loving with their family.

That softer side shows up again in a moment shared on January 6, where one of the dogs can be seen quietly cozying up to a tiny feline friend.

In Rocky and Rambo’s case, being close to their family seems to come naturally, even if it turns Mom’s workout into a full-body challenge.

Golden Retriever Puppy Tries Pup Cup Once and Is Never the Same

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 11:55am

There are a million and one reasons why being a parent to a little puppy is an incredible experience, and that’s all centered on the reality that their whole world is full of firsts that you get to re-experience. Their first time running along the beach and feeling the sand in their paws. The first thunderstorm scares and intrigues them. And their very first lick of whipped cream, the sole ingredient in a pup cup. All so magical!

This video captures exactly that: a cute Golden Retriever puppy experiencing his very first pup cup. From his reaction, we know his whole world has changed. Take a look!

@syd.hummert

TikTok user Sydney (@syd.hummert) shared an incredible video of their 14-week-old baby Golden Retriever puppy, Hank. It looks like Hank's family wanted to make his day special and thought taking him on a car ride to stop and get a pup cup would be a good experience. And they were right—but it's not just a life-changing experience for him, but us, too, because Hank is putting on the cutest show.

Look at him cradling that pup cup! Hank doesn't want to let go of the cup and is determined to lick every last drop out of it. His paws are so small but charmingly too big for his little body, while they're also the perfect size for a double grip on this cold treat.

One person wrote, "Omggg, stop. You are so cute!"

Another shared, "If this doesn’t make you smile…"

Someone else added, "I'll give my puppy his Ben & Jerry's ice cream, how he clenches it on the sofa."

Other comments included, "HA, the paws," "Cute," "He's a pro already," "Let's be friends," "Adorable," "The paws are the best," and "Staaaaaaaapppp."

What Is a 'Pup Cup?'

Hank clearly gives this summer or anytime treat for dogs his four paws up, and he's not alone. It's a pretty popular treat for pups, and it's easier to make than it sounds.

According to Englishtown Vet MD, a pup cup is a silly term for a small cup of whipped cream, often offered for free at a coffee shop or fast-food restaurant. Some offer extras in the cup, like a dog biscuit or a swirl of peanut butter.

These are definitely considered treats for dogs and not something they should have all the time (since it might upset their stomach), but for a special occasion or outing, watching a pup enjoy their treat is priceless.

Dachshund in 7 Layers of Coats Trying To Walk in a Snowstorm Will Make Your Day

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 11:20am

This winter just won't quit. The East Coast has already been pummeled by snow, and it looks like more is on the way this weekend.

Additionally, much of the country is experiencing record-low temperatures that just won't quit.

It's a lot for humans to deal with, and it is a lot for dogs as well.

Now, some dogs are a little better at braving the winter temperatures than others, especially if their breed is used to the snow and even thrives in it (hello, Huskies!)

But for other dog breeds, like Dachshunds, snow isn't always their favorite.

When they are low to the ground with fine hair, it is a little tougher for these guys.

In fact, according to The Puppy Mag, because of their long bodies, they have a large surface area, which also contributes to making it harder for them to retain heat.

Now, Longhaired Dachshunds fare a little better in these cold temperatures, but they still get cold pretty quickly.

Even if you cover them in coats and layers, their proximity to the ground when it is cold and damp makes it tough.

Related: Dachshund With Overbite Is the Epitome of Cuteness

This Dachshund Is Not Loving the Snow

We see that in a new video from the account @thejuarezdachshunds. This family has three short-haired Mini Dachshunds, and in this video, one of them can barely walk in the snow because the pup has so many layers on, and it's too cute.

This Dachshund, whose name we don't know, has on a sweater, a vest with fur trim over the coat, and then a headwrap of some sort so the dog can barely see when he's walking.

Though it doesn't seem like he loves the snow, as the many layers are preventing the pup from his usual rapid-fire movements, his tail is wagging (but maybe that is just the only part of the body the little dog can freely move?).

The video also includes the common TikTok sound effect for dogs in inclement weather, which says, "This is a waste of time. We could have been in a bar having a nice cocktail. We could have had a coffee."

At least his Dachshund sibling also seemed to be at the same level of enthusiasm about the snow and had on an equally ridiculous winter outfit.

Fluffy White Samoyed Adopts a Tabby Kitten and It’s Love at First Sight

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 10:55am

There are big dogs. And then there are walking clouds with legs. This massive, white Samoyed is the size of a snowdrift and somehow still manages to be the gentlest creature in the room.

In this heart-melting clip, that giant fluff meets a tiny Tabby kitten and immediately decides this is his new favorite thing on earth. Not food. Not a squeaky toy. Not a stick. The kitten.

@kayaandbernie shared the adorable video on TikTok with the caption, “The day my dog got the best toy in the world.” And honestly? That tracks. The two chase each other around, wrestle softly, and at one point, the Samoyed gently places a paw on the kitten’s head like he’s blessing her. It is painfully cute. The size difference alone should not work. But it does.

Related: Tiny Tabby Kitten Takes on a Huge German Shepherd During Playtime

People in the comments were losing it. “Your pup is so gentle, they look so happy together,” one person wrote. Another added, “They are both so happy to be with each other.” And someone else perfectly captured it with, “You got your dog a cat, and they’ll be happy forever.” The paw on the head moment? Universally agreed to be the cutest thing ever.

This story and video are so familiar to me because I swear this is exactly what happened when we took in our foster Calico kitten, Elvis. We bottle-fed her. She was tiny and chaotic and loud. And our Pomeranian fell in love immediately. Not in a tolerates-her way, but in a this-is-my-baby way. He followed her around. Let her climb on him. Slept near her. Licked her every chance he got. We were supposed to foster.

We absolutely failed.

Yes, they absolutely can. With proper introductions, supervision, and a pup with a gentle temperament, dogs and cats can form incredibly close bonds. Foster Dog 'Down on Her Luck' Blossoms Into a Totally Different Pup After Surgery and It's the Best

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 10:10am

Isabel Klee is a well-known animal advocate and has fostered approximately 30 dogs to date. She often takes on canines with serious health and behavioral challenges, and is currently fostering a fur baby who had a serious medical issue.

Raven the adorable black-and-white rescue dog had a one-pound mass on her hind area causing her great pain. The precious pooch recently had it removed via surgery and is now enjoying life to the fullest.

In the TikTok from @simonsits, Klee shared details of Raven's remarkable transformation since her life-changing operation.

"It's officially been one week since Raven's surgery, and I cannot even explain to you guys how much she has changed over this week," Klee said as she cuddled Raven in her arms.

The video showed the extensive damage that the mass caused Raven. The foster dog needed several vet visits and had to wear a cone to prevent further damage to her body.

"When we got Raven in, she was pretty down on her luck," the foster mom remarked. "She didn't have a lot of energy. We could tell she was really in pain."

Raven Is Now Thriving

Raven had a miraculous improvement since her surgery. Klee updated her followers and provided highlights of how Raven has changed.

"This week, she has completely blossomed," Klee shared. "Her silly personality is coming out."

The sweet pup ran around with a spring in her step as she tried to play with her fur baby brother, Simon. Her tail wagged as Klee described her as "a totally different dog" just one day after surgery.

Related: Rescue Dog's Dramatic Transformation After Realizing She's Finally Safe Is Everything

Raven's appetite clearly returned and she's enjoying full meals. Klee revealed that the foster pup is more affectionate now that she feels better and loves to give kisses and snuggles. She even "gets really upset" if Klee stops petting her.

Raven loves toys and bones, and even gets "a little naughty" at times by chewing on Simon's bone-shaped pillow.

The closing scene of Raven contentedly getting her belly rubbed showed how much progress she's made physically and emotionally, with the onscreen text noting, "Truly being able to relax for the first time."

This, of course, got me thinking about whether Pugs are descendants of seals.

After some quick internet research, I can say with certainty that there’s no connection whatsoever!

Where Did Pugs Come From?

Pugs originated in ancient China (around 2,000 years ago) and were kept by emperors and nobility. They were not bred to hunt, guard, or do anything, really. They were quite hilariously designed to sit with royalty, provide companionship, and look cute.

With that in mind, Rosie is definitely 100% Pug! Mission accomplished!

At the same time, if we played around with AI and threw an arctic backdrop into the video and added some fake whiskers to Rosie’s face, she would absolutely pass as a seal hanging out on an ice platform!

Regardless, Rosie is just the cutest, and I can’t wait to see more of her videos, whether they happen to be filmed in her family’s living room or somewhere in the Arctic!

Alicia Silverstone Saves Terrier Mix Scheduled for Euthanasia and Gets the Sweetest Surprise

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 8:40am

Actress Alicia Silverstone is being praised by animal lovers on Instagram after helping to save a terrier mix who was scheduled for euthanasia. But that's not where this sweet story ends. As if! What unfolds next makes this rescue even more remarkable—and leads to a decision that no one -- including Silverstone -- saw coming.

As she explains in the post's caption, "Six weeks ago, a pregnant mama dog was scheduled to be euthanized at a shelter. I heard about it and couldn’t take it… so I started making calls. Helen Woodward Animal Center stepped in and saved her. That same day, she gave birth to 14 puppies. 12 survived."

She goes on to say that after visiting the litter with her son, Bear, Silverstone decided to foster four of the puppies in her own home for a few weeks. The second video in the carousel gives us a peek at just how well the morning after bringing them home is going...

View this post on Instagram

Potty training and puppy energy aside, Silverstone admits, "It’s the sweetest, most adorable thing…"

And fans of the Clueless actress are certainly grateful for her efforts on behalf of all 13 lucky dogs.

"Amazing work, Alicia, and thank you! You used your celebrity to make a difference and stand behind your heart & words. Hope you’re having so much fun with the little critters!!! & that momma pup is doing ok too!!!!" says one viewer.

Another echoes the sentiment, "Thank you for being the best person ever for this. Those babies and that mama are just so happy to be warm and loved!"

It seems that Silverstone will have her hands full for a while, but the love and attention the pups receive in her care will set them up for success in their future forever homes.

Why Fostering Matters

Fostering an animal in need isn’t just kind — it’s lifesaving. Fostering -- temporarily opening your home to a pet to provide a safe, loving environment while they wait to be adopted --plays such a critical role in animal welfare in the following ways:

  1. It gives animals a safe place to thrive -- Foster homes provide comfort, stability, and extra care for animals who need time to heal, grow, or gain confidence before adoption.
  2. It frees up space in shelters -- When animals move into foster homes, shelters can help more pets in need.
  3. It saves the most vulnerable lives -- Neonatal and very young animals often require round-the-clock care that shelters can’t always provide.
  4. It helps pets get adopted faster -- Foster families help socialize animals and introduce them to potential forever parents.
  5. It adds joy to your life -- From companionship to unbeatable snuggles, fostering is incredibly rewarding.

Dachshund Born Without Front Legs Has Rizz and He Knows It

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 8:20am

There is confidence. There is delusion. And then there is this Dachshund launching himself at love like he personally wrote Prince’s “Kiss.”

This black-and-white Dachshund, who was born without front legs, looks exactly like a tiny furry T. rex when he gets moving. In the clip, he spots a Shih-Tzu on the sofa, locks in, and decides today is the day. As Prince hits that first dramatic “Uhhhh,” this little man throws his entire body forward in what can only be described as a romantic missile launch.

The adorable clip was shared by TikToker @trex.the.dachshund, and the timing is so perfect it almost feels choreographed. The caption reads, “He’s gonna get the ladies even if it means throwing himself,” and honestly? Respect.

People in the comments are losing it. “The timing in the music was epic,” one person wrote. Another said, “The way that Wiener launched himself.” Someone else admitted, “Lord, forgive me for laughing. Bless you, buddy.” And same. Because it is funny. But it is also wildly impressive.

One viewer added, “I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched this!” while another said, “Well, I like his enthusiasm.” That is exactly it. The enthusiasm. The confidence. The absolute refusal to let his lack of legs stop him.

And here’s the thing. Dogs like this are not tragic. They are determined. He does not see himself as missing anything. He sees a sofa. He sees a Shih-Tzu. He sees opportunity.

Perfect song. Perfect timing. Perfect little T. rex baby.

Pint-Sized Pug Puppy Suiting Up for 'Polar Vortex' Might Be the Cutest Thing We've Ever Seen

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 7:10am

Winter is here with a vengeance and making us all yearn for spring. My dogs are getting very antsy and miss their daily long walks, but it's just too cold right now to stay outside for more than a few minutes. They aren't crazy about being bundled in heavy coats, but they need protection against those freezing temps.

Bunny the Pug puppy had to go outside for her routine bathroom break, so her mom prepared her for the cold with adorable results.

In the TikTok from @susanrichards.author, Bunny's mom placed the adorable pup on the table to gear up for the cold outdoors.

"Get my aunt's rescue Pugs ready for the polar vortex," the onscreen text read as Bunny was dressed in a snazzy red winter coat with a gray border. The precious Pug didn't look particularly pleased to be suiting up for the cold, but she cooperated with the bundling process. The canine cutie is just a little over two months old and came from a very difficult environment.

"Bunny was in a bad hoarding situation," the story continued. "She's 9 weeks."

For extra warmth, Bunny's mom put her in a snuggly winter hat, almost like a papoose, for extra layers to protect her from the harsh elements. Bunny's cuteness was literally off the charts.

Rescue Mom Is Best-Selling Author

Bunny's mom is author Susan Richards. Her best-selling memoir, Chosen By a Horse, shared her experience rescuing a former racehorse and the unbreakable bond that blossomed throughout their journey together. She actively gives animals in need a new home, and Bunny is her most recent family member.

"Bunny is my aunt's newest rescue," the video explained. "She's rescued cats, dogs, and horses."

Another rescue Pug appeared in the video and was obviously headed for a quick trip outside with Bunny.

"Bea was a puppy mill breeder," the post shared of the tan Pug being clothed with a winter jacket. "She's 11 now."

Followers raved over the Pug pups and Richards' generous spirit.

"She is so gentle and kind and I love her — I wish she was my aunty," one remarked.

"Bunny is absolutely adorable," another posted.

"Your aunt is an angel and a delight. And I want to smoosh those puggy schnozzles!" someone shared.

Bunny and Bea were probably warm and toasty thanks to their mom's thoughtful care.

Rescue Pit Bull With a Spiky Mohawk Walks in With the Most Confident Little Two-Step

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 6:25am

Just like people, some dogs command attention the moment they walk into a room. Theo, a Rescue Pit Bull with a striking long coat and an even bigger personality, does it without saying a word.

As fans were quick to point out, this good boy rocks a sensational, spiky Tina Turner–style look, and he wears it with the same fearless confidence. The result is impossible not to smile at and almost guaranteed to have you hitting the replay button.

You can check out Theo's unforgettable entrance in an Instagram shared by @theodore_joannam on January 26:

View this post on Instagram

Theo struts into the room like he owns the place, head held high, hair bouncing, and paws landing in a perfectly timed little two-step.

While his fabulous locks immediately grab attention, it's his personality that truly seals the deal. He makes his presence known with total boss energy, as if he has important news to share. That confident stomp makes it hard to look away, which may be exactly what he intends.

Theo's fans couldn't get enough of the moment.

Viewer @laa_times joked, "I see you got the Jim Henson version."

@natgeoanimals summed it up perfectly: "Just making his presence known."

Others chimed in with reactions like, "Ok, I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this!" and "There's no way he's even real. The cuteness is too much."

Despite what many people might assume, Theo isn’t a mixed breed. His mom has explained in other posts that his long coat is due to a recessive gene mutation known as FGF5, which affects hair length in dogs.

A Rare Genetic Mutation Can Give Dogs Longer Coats

According to the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, the FGF5 gene plays a key role in determining coat length in dogs. When dogs inherit two copies of the recessive mutation, their hair continues to grow longer rather than stopping at a short length. This mutation has been identified in many breeds, including those not typically known for long coats, which explains how a full Pit Bull like Theo can end up with such an unexpectedly fabulous look.

And if Theo knows his hair is off the charts, he certainly matches it with the energy to back it up. In another Instagram post shared on January 30, he turns up the charm even more, showing off what his mom lovingly describes as his "spicy" personality.

View this post on Instagram

Theo’s dramatic stomps may steal the spotlight, but it’s his confidence and personality that keep us watching. For a Rescue Pit Bull with hair this unforgettable and an attitude to match, making an entrance is just part of who he is.

18 of the Last 19 Westminster Winners Have One Thing in Common—And It’s What’s in Their Bowl

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 5:50am

The dogs that find themselves touting the coveted title of 'Best in Show' at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show put in a lot of hard work, training, and grooming, even to get a chance at being top dog. All that work starts long before the competition.

Over the 150 years of the show, a wide variety of pups have won the top honor. The competition has seen terriers, poodles, bulldogs, whippets, and more. Winners have come from every size and class. Plus, they have very different training regimens and backgrounds. But there is one thing the last 18 out of 19 victors have in common: their diet.

Winning Starts With Diet View this post on Instagram

Purina has been the lead sponsor and partner for the show for the last 15 years, serving as the food and presenting sponsor, a spot they took over from Pedigree. In honor of the dog show's 150th anniversary, Purina looked back at what the winners had in common.

It turns out that 18 of the past 19 Best in Show winners fuel their athletic drive by gobbling up a bowl of Purina Pro Plan. Purina surveyed several past winners to assess how their experiences affected their overall performance in the show.

First up was Siba, a Standard Poodle. Three-year-old Siba won the top-dog title in 2020, competing with her handler. She was the first Standard Poodle to win since 1991, and the 11th poodle in the history of the show.

"Siba captured hearts with her elegance and precision in the conformation ring, and at almost 10 years old, she's thriving in her new role," shared Paul Clas, Professional Handler, in a press release. "After her Westminster victory, she's become a wonderful dam, producing several litters while enjoying life as owner Connie Unger's beloved companion. Pro Plan Sport Chicken & Rice has fueled her through championship competition and now supports her as a brood and family dog."

Similarly, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Buddy Holly took the top dog slot three years after Siba. But unlike Siba, he was the first of his breed to achieve the Best in Show win.

"Buddy Holly's charm and spirit made him unforgettable in the conformation ring, and at 9 years old, he's enjoying retirement life in Ireland – relaxing on the couch and taking daily walks with his favorite 10-year-old companion, Grace," said Janice Hayes, Professional Handler and co-owner. "Pro Plan helped fuel his championship success and supported the health and vitality that still keeps him active today. He continues to benefit from Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements FortiFlora daily for digestive support."

It Boils Down to Nutrition

All dogs need a solid meal, and Pro Plan is often recommended. I know my vet has discussed the food's benefits for dogs at all stages of life many times over the years. Purina's vet offers insight into why it helps dogs perform at their best, especially when competing for the most prestigious title in the show dog world.

"Winning Best in Show at Westminster requires dedication, discipline, and peak conditioning, but maintaining health for years afterward takes the right nutritional foundation," explained Dr. Callie Harris, Purina Veterinarian, in a release. "Pro Plan offers more than 140 specialized formulas to support dogs' unique nutritional needs, fueling them through intense training, competition, and now, their retirement years."

Brave Little Maltipoo Explores the Woods in His Wheelchair—and Viewers Are in Tears

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 5:40am

A courageous Maltipoo named Tyrion is moving TikTok viewers to tears as he treks through the woods using his wheelchair harness. The uplifting video captures the pup’s confidence and determination, reminding viewers that mobility challenges don’t limit a dog’s love of adventure.

Tyrion proves unstoppable as he takes on steep hills and natural obstacles, relying on just his front legs and his problem-solving skills to overcome each barrier. His mom, Dagmar, is unwavering in her support of him, but she does a commendable job of cheering him on from a distance and allowing Tyrion to figure out each hurdle on his own.

"You can do it," urges Dagmar as "T" climbs up a challenging incline. "So smart and so strong. That's you," she says. Oh, my heart!

"I wasn't planning on crying today 🥺🥺🥺🥺 But it's happy tears of course 😫🫶🏻 He's forever my favorite!" comments one viewer.

"The bravest of the brave 🥹" says another.

And others are grateful for this small but mighty dog's larger-than-life attitude.

"This is beyond inspiring! T can teach us all so much! Thank you for sharing him with all of us!❤"

A Wheelchair Can Offer a New Lease on Life

Wheelchair harnesses or carts can help dogs with all types of mobility issues, whether temporary -- such as after surgery or during recovery from an injury -- or permanent. Dogs with chronic conditions such as hip dysplasia, neurological issues, spinal problems, or paralysis, like Tyrion, can regain their confidence when taught to use a wheelchair. As Dagmar shares in other videos on her TikTok account, Tyrion became paralyzed after an autoimmune disease caused his body to attack his spinal cord, and using a two-wheeled harness has allowed the plucky dog to "find his spark" again.

For high-energy dogs like T, a sudden drop in activity can be frustrating and depressing. A wheelchair helps them stay active, supporting both physical and mental well-being. For many disabled dogs, their total quality of life is restored by the use of a wheelchair or cart.

Dogs with mobility challenges are also more likely to gain weight due to limited exercise. Extra pounds put added stress on joints and can further restrict movement. Some dogs avoid putting weight on an injured leg because it’s uncomfortable. Wheelchairs can help reduce pressure and improve comfort.

Over time, wheelchairs may also help prevent secondary issues linked to limited mobility, including muscle loss, pressure sores, and weight-related conditions like diabetes — allowing dogs to stay happier, healthier, and more independent.

Top 5 Egg-Laying Chickens Experts Recommend

Wed, 02/04/2026 - 5:10am

Deciding to have your own chicken flock at home can be an exciting and slightly overwhelming process. But before you start, experts say it’s crucial to figure out why you want chickens in the first place. If you’re getting chickens for the eggs, there are certain pet chicken breeds known for their egg-laying potential that you should look into over others. However, because there are so any different breeds out there, most first-time chicken owners need a little guidance so they select the right ones. To help, we rounded up 5 egg-laying chickens that make the perfect backyard pets, according to experts. That way, you'll feel more confident selecting your new feathery friends.

“Egg production does vary from breed to breed,” says Lisa Steele, founder of Fresh Eggs Daily. “A good egg layer still won't lay every day, but you can expect six to seven eggs a week pretty consistently from some of the high production breeds. They will also often continue to lay through the winter without any supplemental light as well. By comparison, some less productive chicken breeds may only lay two or three eggs a week, as well as take egg-laying breaks or the entire winter off."

So, if you've always dreamed of getting backyard chickens so you don't have to go to the store to buy eggs, you'll love our list of the best egg-laying chicken breeds. These adorable farm animals are perfect pets for beginners and experienced owners alike, helping you build a happy, healthy home flock while enjoying a steady supply of fresh eggs.

3 Things to Consider When Getting Chickens

There are three main factors to consider when you’re creating a backyard flock for eggs: The chicken's yield, the temperament of the breed and how adaptable the chickens are, says J.K. Yarborough, University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Orange County Extension agent in livestock and natural resources.

“Yield is the most obvious metric, which is how many eggs a bird lays each week and how consistent the laying schedule is,” he says. “Temperament matters as well because a docile flock is easier to handle and some breeds of chicken are just more docile than others. Overall adaptability is also important and is based on things like heat tolerance, how resistant the chickens are to common pests and whether they can thrive with the level of feed and care your yard can provide."

If you're thinking of getting chickens, you’ll also want to keep in mind what size the birds will be when they mature. “Bigger/older hens will bully or harass smaller/younger bird,” Yarborough says. “So, if getting a variety of breeds for your flock, consider getting breeds with similar mature size.”

One other thing you may want to think about before getting chickens is what color eggs they will lay. “A chicken's breed determines their egg color, not their nutrition or environment,” Yarborough says. “So, if you know you are wanting blue eggs or olive eggs, you will need to research and find breeds that are known to lay those colors of eggs.”

The Best Pet Chicken Breeds for Eggs

Pet chickens that lay eggs can generally be grouped into heritage breeds and hybrids. “Heritage breeds are the traditional ‘purebreds’ of the chicken world,” Steele reveals “Heritage hens tend to be more hardy, grow more slowly, have long productive lives, and are often good mothers and foragers.” On the other hand, hybrids are considered production breeds and have been specifically bred for high egg production," Steele explains. However, she shares they don’t typically live as long as heritage breeds and may have more general health issues. “I would choose one of the heritage breeds over a production breed, just because of their hardiness and other qualities such as temperament and longevity,” Steele says. She suggests starting with these chickens if you're wondering what breed of chicken you should get.

The Barred Plymouth Rock is a popular heritage chicken that was first developed in Massachusetts. “They are a very hardy, cold-hardy breed,” Steele shares. “They are a good choice if you want lots of eggs and live in a colder climate. Plus, these hens should lay about 200 medium-sized light-tan eggs a year."

Beyond their productivity, Yarborough praises these chickens for their friendly nature and being calm and easy to handle, which he says makes them amazing pet chickens for families or hobby farmers. So, whether you’re raising chickens for fresh eggs, as pets, or both, Plymouth Rocks offer a balanced mix of friendliness, productivity, and resilience, making them a top choice for your home flock.

If maximum egg production is your goal, Steele suggests getting Australorp as they are one of the best egg-laying chicken breeds. “Australorps are not only very hardy, docile hens, they consistently hold the record for the breed that lays the most eggs,” she says. “In fact, an Australorp set the world record when she laid 364 light brown eggs in 365 days, which is pretty much unheard of.”

On top of that, Yarborough says this cute animal is “resilient" as well. It's no wonder so many people love having them as backyard pets!

Another one of the best chickens for eggs that our experts recommend are Rhode Island Reds. If you've never seen one before, they have dark mahogany-colored feathers that will be hard to miss if they’re clucking around your yard. "This chicken breed is hardy and can be bossy," Steele says. Because of that, families with young children or other animals should take that into account when adding them to their pet chickens collection.

Despite their feisty streak, Rhode Island Reds are exceptional backyard chickens for egg production. "They lay about 300 large brown eggs per year, making them one of the best chickens for eggs you can own," Steele explains. Their combination of durability, high productivity, and bold appearance makes Rhode Island Reds a favorite among beginners and seasoned poultry keepers alike.

Like Plymouth Rocks, Wyandottes are an egg-laying chicken breed that do well in cold weather. While this bird isn’t considered “terribly friendly,” Steele and Yarborough note they are known for being "calm and docile," which can make it suitable for families willing to handle chickens with a bit more independence.

Our experts also note that Wyandottes are excellent backyard chickens for egg production. "They consistently lay around 200 large brown eggs per year, or roughly four eggs per week," Steele states. Overall, their resilience and steady egg-laying ability make them one of the best chickens for eggs, particularly for homesteaders or beginners looking for a low-maintenance yet productive breed.

"The Orpington is a large, fluffy chicken breed known for its friendly and gentle temperament, making it one of the best pet chickens for families and backyard flocks," Yarborough explains. He notes Orpingtons are calm and easy to handle, which is why it's the perfect for beginners or anyone looking to raise backyard chickens.

In addition to being a sweet companion, he reveals the Orpington is an excellent egg-laying chicken breed. "They can produce up to 280 large, light brown eggs per year, or about four to five eggs per week" he shares. Its consistent egg production and easygoing nature make it one of the best chickens for eggs and a popular choice for anyone wanting a productive and friendly addition to their home flock.

Toucan 'Honks' Through Snow Day as Mom Rubs His Beak

Tue, 02/03/2026 - 11:21pm

Chester, a social media–famous Toucan, is showing the world how birds pass the time on a snow day. Chester is getting VIP treatment from his human, courtesy of some honk-inducing back rubs, which is just about the best way to pass the time when going outside is out of the question. Chester’s cute vocalizations are causing viewers to “fall in love” with this chatty bird.

In a video shared to social media captioned, “Just some cozy snow day happy honks,” Chester can be seen perched on the kitchen counter while receiving calming rubs from a favorite human. In response, Chester honks away, adorably reacting to the at-home massage.

Social media viewers have become smitten with the chatty Toucan. One wrote, “Did I just fall in love with a Toucan? Yes, head over heels.” Another added, “Awww, I bet his little head feels so small and delicate.”

Another inquisitive viewer asked, “Is his beak sensitive? I thought it was like a fingernail, but he really seems to enjoy the scratches on it.”

Why a Toucan’s Beak Is So Sensitive @chester_the_toucan

The tiniest toucan honks 🥹 #toucan #bird #pet #animals #honk

♬ original sound - Chester the Toucan

The thoughtful question begs an answer, and the response is yes, a Toucan’s beak is sensitive.

While a Toucan’s beak may feel similar to a fingernail, it actually contains a network of blood vessels and nerves that allow the bird to feel pressure. In addition to helping with feeding, a Toucan’s beak is used as a thermal regulator, allowing the bird to adjust its body temperature by controlling blood flow.

A Toucan’s beak is made of keratin, similar to a fingernail, but it has a bone-supported, blood-filled core. The base of the bill is especially sensitive to touch, which means some domesticated Toucans, like Chester, enjoy having their beaks gently scratched.

Despite Chester’s love of a good beak massage, a Toucan’s beak is relatively fragile and can be damaged. It’s important to use caution when applying pressure, even if the bird appears to ask for more.

“I love his squeaks,” shared another commenter on the video, echoing the sentiments of many viewers entertained by this bird’s hilarious sounds.
