‘Biggest Maine Coon Ever’ Almost Reaches Mom’s Shoulders

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 8:00am

Maine Coons are notorious for being huge. Even still, though, there are some who are bigger than others! Some of them are so big that it's genuinely mindblowing: how does a cat even get to be that big? How is that even physically possible?

It is, even if it's hard to believe. Zeus the Maine Coon is a prime example of how huge these cats can get. When he stands on his hind legs, he basically reaches his mom's shoulders:

@zeus.thegiant.mainecoon

Zeus maine coon ❤️❤️❤️ #mainecoon #mainecooncat #mainecoonsoftiktok #mainecoonlovers #мейнкун

♬ Pretty (Sped Up) - MEYY

He looks like a very, very sweet boy. I just know he gives the best hugs ever, and that he's a lot of fun to snuggle, even if he's so big it's a little terrifying. Maine Coons are big, but most of them are not this big!

He's not just really long, though: he's super fluffy. That helps make him look even more intimidating. He just looks like a big black cloud, ready and waiting to pounce. When he pounces, though, it's all love. He wouldn't hurt a fly, despite looking like he could take down a herd of elephants all by himself.

Though it isn't explicitly stated how big he is, Zeus has to be at least 4 feet tall standing on his hind legs. If he fully stretched out his paws, I bet he could touch the top of Mom's head. Here he is from a different angle:

@zeus.thegiant.mainecoon

♬ My Kitty - Emergency Mouse

I'm obsessed with him. I have three dogs, and they're not exactly small, but they're nowhere near the size of Zeus. If he were a dog, I think he'd be a Newfoundland.

What Is a Typical Maine Coon's Size?

Zeus is stunning, but his size is definitely not the norm. He's really big! Typically, when a Maine Coon is that big, they're a full-grown male. Females are usually smaller.

A standard European Maine Coon typically weigh between 16 and 25 pounds, with male cats on the larger end of the scale. They stand about 24 inches tall at the shoulder, and can be up to 40 inches long, or longer in some extreme cases.

Zeus's case is certainly extreme. That's not a Maine Coon! That's a human in a cat suit!

A Group of Strangers Just Raised $1.6 Million by Throwing a Massive ‘Slumber Pawty’

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 7:48am

The lights go off. The shelter gets quiet. And for one night, no dog sleeps alone.

That is the image behind this year's Slumber Pawty, a nationwide overnight event that pulled in more than $1.6 million from nearly 19,000 donations for 98 animal welfare organizations across the country. But the impressive numbers are almost beside the point.

What people keep sharing is the footage of the slumber party with shelter dogs.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ewKg32-i5hc

One Night That Looks Different

In the video posted on YouTube, volunteers are tucked under blankets, dogs pressed against them, heavy and still. Not performing for visitors. Not pacing. Just resting, the way dogs rest when they finally feel safe enough to let go.

Shelter life is loud by design. Even the best-run facilities carry a constant undercurrent of stress, barking that echoes off concrete, strangers moving through, the absence of routine. Many dogs never fully decompress. Some won't sleep deeply for days at a stretch.

But put a person beside them, and something shifts.

Heart rate drops. Breathing slows. Some dogs fall into a deeper sleep within minutes of contact. Staff at overnight programs have watched it happen again and again. It is not complicated. It is just proximity. The same reason your dog finds you in the dark and presses against your leg.

Now picture a dog that hasn't had that in weeks.

What $1.6 Million Actually Buys

The campaign by Project Bella took place on April 18, and the footage is still rolling in from shelters across the country. The donations will help cover operational costs, food, medical care, staffing and the infrastructure that keeps shelters running.

That part matters enormously.

But the volunteers lying on kennel floors aren't thinking about operational budgets. They're thinking about the dog beside them. The one who took an hour to settle, and then didn't move until morning.

The Thing That Carries Over

Dogs that decompress, even briefly, show differently the next day. Calmer. More themselves. Easier for a potential adopter to actually meet.

One night of rest doesn't fix everything, but it breaks a cycle, and a dog that feels seen, even once, carries that into the next day.

That is what this event gives beyond the fundraising total. A break from waiting. For one night, these dogs are not being evaluated. They are not hoping to be chosen.

They already have someone there. The next time you see a volunteer at a local shelter event, consider that they might be the person who spent their Friday night on a kennel floor. Not because anyone asked them to, but because they knew that mattered.

Corgi’s Sweet Welcome Home Routine for Dad Is Something Every Dog Parent Should Try

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 7:20am

There's truly nothing better than coming home to a dog, except coming home to multiple dogs! They have the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the whole world, even if they just saw you 5 minutes prior. Brady, the senior Corgi, has the most precious "hello" for his pawrents, and it's exactly why Dad's routine with the happy pup might inspire you to do the same.

@bradygraffiti_corgis

Brady’s howls have been different lately. Quieter. A little sadder since losing Gdog. Poppa figured out that if he howls the second he walks in from a bike ride, Brady lights up. So now that’s just… the thing they do ❤️. #dogs #corgi #dogdad

♬ Little Things - Adrián Berenguer

Brady, doing his best "awoo" exchange with Dad each day, has become an adorable and reliable expectation, so Brady can feel safe, secure, and loved. My Corgi, Tater Tot, offers us the same kind of greeting, and let me tell ya—I feel like a rockstar! For Brady's dad to howl first to get Brady amped up inspires me to do the same with my girl next time, so she can feel just as special as she makes me feel.

Why Dogs Get Excited When Their Parents Come Home

Dogs are in tune with us in ways we may never understand or deserve. By recognizing our scent, listening for sound cues, and anticipating responses (and rewards!), these pack animals view us as their family, so reuniting with us means we're safe and they can finally relax. They might even bring you a toy as if to say, "I'm glad you're here!"

Dad coming home and howling with Brady is now a mandatory welcome home ritual that's not only cute, but serves as Brady's daily dose of comfort.

Related: Corgi's Adorable 'Floating Drumstick' Paws Have Us Watching This Video on Repeat

How Greeting Rituals Build Stronger Bonds @bradygraffiti_corgis

We never used to leave Brady and Graffiti at home for very long, but when we did, they had each other. Now that Graffiti is gone, Brady would be by himself when we walk out the door. So we made a decision. Brady comes with us to happy hours, patio dinners, and anywhere else we can bring him. And anywhere we can’t bring him, we don’t go. He’s almost 12. He’s been through a lot. If keeping him close makes his world feel safer and less lonely, that’s what we’re going to do. He’s the only baby we have left. He goes with us everywhere now. #dogstroller #petparents #corgi

♬ Carefree Days - Peaceful Reveries

Because dogs are pack animals who thrive on trust, mutual respect, and an "I've got your back" mentality, creating a greeting routine is one consistent way to strengthen your bond and foster secure attachment. It could be howling back and forth like Brady and his dad, or in your house, it could be tossing a toy for them to fetch when you walk through the door.

Whatever routine you choose, it enforces positive behavior, gives your pup emotional stability, and allows the two of you a sweet moment together.

Why Corgis Are One of the Most Expressive Dog Breeds

Corgis are some of the most loyal, affectionate, and eager-to-please dogs anyone could have. Combined with their intelligence and need for praise, these herding dogs are as expressive as they are hardworking. They wear their emotions right there on their furry shoulders, feel deeply, and instinctually know when we need them.

@bradygraffiti_corgis

The smallest things mean the most right now. After Graffiti was diagnosed, we couldn’t brush him anymore. Anything that might have made him even slightly uncomfortable or raised his blood pressure just wasn’t worth the risk. I wish we had saved more of his fur before everything changed. So now, every time we brush Brady, we keep it. No matter how dusty or dirty he is ❤️ #corgi #dogdad #petcare

♬ original sound - Brady & Graffiti the Corgis

It wasn't long ago (March 21) that 12-year-old Brady lost his 9-year-old brother, Graffiti, to cancer. It came on quickly and took a toll on the whole family, who are still grieving the space the sweet boy left. Because of all the changes, Mom and Dad have completely restructured Brady's routines so that his little heart can heal.

And maybe, by showing the world welcome home routines and all the ways they're pouring their love into Brady, it's helping our hearts heal, too.

Heartbroken Parrot Lost His Mate Then Got the Sweetest Surprise

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 6:00am

Bird mating for life is a huge inspiration to us humans. We love to look to them when we're thinking about what love should look like, but just like with human love, things don't always end happily for birds. It's sad, but it's reality.

Recently, one African Grey Parrot got a nice surprise after he lost his lifelong friend. He was feeling really terrible, and his family knew he needed a pick-me-up... They just never expected it to work so well:

@geckoemmy

A parrot who lost his friend exactly one year ago meets his new (hopefully) best friend, but he won't forget his forever buddy, Egg #rescueparrot #petbirds #petgrief

Gecko Emmy seems to know exactly what her feathered friends need, and they're so lucky to have her. She wants them to be as happy as they could possibly be, and she makes it happen. In a world where so many birds are mistreated, it's so nice to see beautiful birds being treated with respect!

The African Grey who lost his best friend's name is Jake, and ever since the loss, he's been having a little bit of a hard time. His mom tries her best to keep him happy, but not even she can replace true companionship.

Related: Rescue Cockatoo ‘Guards’ Little Brother From Mom Waking Him up Like a Literal Wingman

That's where the second African Grey, Teka, comes in. Emmy has known Teka and her family for a long time, but they couldn't care for her anymore, so she stepped up to take her in! She hoped Teka could help Jake on his healing journey, but she wasn't sure. Birds can be picky.

However, Jake and Teka really hit it off! Thank goodness. While they might not end up living in the same cage, hopefully they'll continue to bond and play together. You can see some more of Teka's story here:

@geckoemmy

I have a very special announcement to make... #rescueparrots #africangreyparrots #beaktrim

For now, her and Jake will be spending most of their time together out in the aviary. It's best to introduce birds in a neutral space before they meet closer to their homes: it just helps them feel more secure. They need to know the other bird isn't a threat.

How Do Birds Grieve Loss?

Jake is very lucky: his mom managed to find him a new partner after he lost his first one. It took a while, but it seems like it was meant to be!

After an African Grey Parrot loses their mate, you'll most likely notice signs that they're grieving. These might include:

  • Restlessness
  • Aggression
  • Refusal to eat
  • Feather plucking or beak grinding
  • Lethargy

The first few weeks or months after they lose their friend will be the worst. All you can do is try to keep them occupied and keep them from falling too deep into depression; in time, you might be able to introduce them to another friend! I hope Jake and Teka live a long and happy life together!

How Often Should I Get My Dog's Teeth Cleaned?

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 5:40am

Your dog's breath has been bad for a while. Not "he ate something weird" bad, the kind of bad that makes you turn your head when he climbs on the couch. You keep meaning to mention it at the next vet visit. Maybe you already have. And still, somehow, a dental cleaning feels like the thing that gets pushed to the back burner.

Most dog parents find themselves in this exact position, or a similar one. Dental disease is one of the most common health problems vets treat, and also one of the most consistently deferred. Part of that is cost. Part of it is not knowing what a professional cleaning actually involves, or how urgent the whole thing really is. Let's try to get to the nitty-gritty of it.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

How Often Do Dogs Actually Need Professional Cleanings?

Susan L. Angstadt/MediaNews Group/Reading Eagle via Getty Images

Once a year, for most adult dogs. That is the standard, and it holds across breeds and sizes with some exceptions.

Dr. Feargus McConnell, a veterinarian registered in Colorado, puts it plainly: once a year is the right default for most owners. For larger breeds, pet parents can stretch that timeline to 18 months. However, small dog breeds like Chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers, dachshunds, and similar need cleanings once every six months.

There is a simple reason why these small dogs need more frequent cleaning. Their teeth are crowded into jaws that were not designed to accommodate them, which speeds up the accumulation of tartar and the development of disease.

A professional cleaning involves more than a scrub. Dr. Stephanie Liff, DVM, of Pure Paws Veterinary Care in New York City, describes the entire process. It starts with a general anesthesia, after which your veterinarian will examine the surface of every tooth, probe gum pockets for tissue that is not firmly attached, and perform a full dental X-Ray scan to check what is happening below the gumline.

After that, the dog's teeth are scaled, polished, and your vet will provide any additional care if needed.

None of that is possible without anesthesia. A dog that is awake cannot hold still for gum probing or intraoral X-rays, and attempting it creates a real risk of injury.

Any "cleaning" that does not involve anesthesia is surface-only. That means vets can only remove visible buildup but cannot assess or treat what is happening below the gumline, where disease actually develops.

Here is something most pet parents ignore. By the time you can smell your dog's breath from across the room, you are already behind. Dental disease destroys gums and bone for months before the obvious signs appear.

What Are the Risks of Skipping Dental Care?

Photo Spirit / Shutterstock.com

According to Dr. McConnell, by age 3, almost 80 percent of dogs show signs of periodontal disease. The worst part is that most parents have no idea it is happening. Unlike humans, dogs do not show pain. They will continue eating and wagging their tail. Underneath it all, the disease keeps progressing.

Plaque hardens into tartar, calcified deposits that cannot be removed with brushing, in as little as 24 to 72 hours, according to Dr. Liff. Once that happens, the only thing that removes it is the ultrasonic scaler used in a professional cleaning.

Without treatment, plaque and tartar can lead to gingivitis, then periodontal disease and eventually bone loss and tooth loss. Eventually, if you continue to ignore it, it could lead to something worse.

Often, bacteria in an unhealthy mouth don't stay in the same place. Instead, it can enter the bloodstream and result in conditions like kidney disease, heart disease, and liver damage. Skipping dental care is not a cosmetic decision.

And then there is the pain. Dr. McConnell is direct about this: dogs with advanced dental disease are living with chronic, significant pain. They are stoic about it in a way that makes it easy to miss. Most parents will not notice anything is wrong. But that silence is not the same as being fine.

Related: Pet Costs Are Skyrocketing in 2026—Here’s Where Experts Suggest Cutting Back

How Much Does a Dog's Teeth Cleaning Cost?

A routine professional cleaning, including anesthesia, oral exam, scaling and polishing, can cost between $300 and $700 at most general-practice veterinary clinics.

Your location matters as well. In a small Midwestern town, you might pay $350 for a general cleaning, but in cities like Los Angeles and New York, the price can reach $550. Urban clinics typically charge 20 to 40 percent more than rural practices.

Other factors can push the price up as well. Extractions and advanced dental procedures performed by a board-certified veterinary dental specialist can push the total to $1,500 or more.

The good news is you can reduce the price. February is National Pet Dental Health Month, and many clinics offer discounts. Some shelter-affiliated clinics offer lower-cost cleanings.

What Are the Signs Your Dog Needs a Cleaning?

PeopleImages / Shutterstock.com

Dr. Liff mentions the obvious ones, including dropping food while eating, bad breath, difficulty chewing, or pulling back from things your dog normally enjoys, like chasing a ball or tugging a toy. Dr. McConnell adds: red or swollen gums, yellow or brown tartar you can see, pawing at the mouth, drooling more than usual, or a sudden preference for soft food.

But the less obvious matters more. If your dog has facial swelling, nasal discharge, or bleeding from the mouth or nose, do not book a cleaning. Call your vet that day. Those signs indicate a disease that has already moved well past what a routine appointment addresses.

One of the most useful things you can do at home takes about five seconds: run your finger along your dog's gumline. Healthy gums are pink and firm. If they are red, puffy, or bleed when you touch them, that is not something to monitor. That is a call to the vet.

Dr. Liff also flags something most owners do not connect to dental pain: visible wear or fractures on the teeth themselves. The most common cause of dental fractures is hard chew toys, yak chews, bully sticks, marrow bones and antlers. She has a simple rule you should follow: if you cannot make a dent in it with your thumbnail, it is too hard for your dog's teeth.

Can You Clean Your Dog's Teeth at Home?

Cyrus McCrimmon/The Denver Post via Getty Images

Yes, and you should. But home care and professional care are doing different jobs.

Daily brushing is the single most effective home intervention for canine oral health. Dr. McConnell is honest about what that means in practice: brushing once a week, or once a month, probably does nothing meaningful. The goal is daily. A realistic target for most pet parents is three times a week. If you are below that, you are not preventing much.

Always use a dog-specific toothpaste for brushing. Human toothpaste contains xylitol, a toxic ingredient for pets. Enzymatic toothpastes work by dissolving plaque rather than just scrubbing it off. A finger toothbrush or soft gauze pad works well for technique. The goal is to hit as many surfaces as possible, and most dogs tolerate these better than a traditional brush.

But here is something you probably do not want to hear: brushing does not remove tartar once it has calcified onto the tooth surface. That requires an ultrasonic scaler. No amount of home brushing undoes hardened deposits.

Home care slows the accumulation of new plaque. Professional cleanings remove what has already hardened and assess what is happening below the gumline. They are not substitutes for each other.

Dental chews and water additives have some supporting evidence, but Dr. McConnell has an honest view of them: think of them like mouthwash or chewing gum. Useful. Not sufficient.

Start home care as early as possible. If your dog is already an adult and you have not started, begin now. If you have a puppy, start before the habit feels optional.

Frequently Asked QuestionsDoes My Dog Really Need Anesthesia for a Cleaning?

Yes, for a thorough and safe one. Forums like Reddit and AskVet are loaded with this question, and the answer is consistent: without anesthesia, you cannot probe gum pockets, take intraoral X-rays, or clean below the gumline. Anesthesia-free cleanings remove visible surface tartar but miss the disease that develops where you cannot see.

My Dog's Teeth Look Fine. Do They Still Need a Cleaning?

Probably. Dental disease is mostly invisible until it is advanced. The most damaging periodontal changes happen below the gumline, where there is nothing to see without X-rays. "Looks fine" is not the same as healthy, and a dog with clean-looking teeth can have significant bone loss around the roots. A dental exam will tell you what is actually there.

What Should I Ask My Vet Before the Procedure?

A few things worth confirming: whether bloodwork is included in the quoted price or billed separately, whether dental X-rays are included, and whether you will be called during the procedure if extractions are needed. You do not want to be surprised by a bill twice what you were quoted because three teeth came out, and nobody reached you first.

7 Best Dog Breeds for Hiking, According to a Trainer

Tue, 04/28/2026 - 5:10am

If your idea of a perfect day involves fresh air, scenic views and miles of trails, having the right dog by your side can make the experience even more rewarding. While most pups enjoy a casual walk, not all are cut out for longer, more demanding hikes. Some breeds, however, have the stamina, strength and can-do attitude to keep going long after others may tire out. So, if you're looking for a furry sidekick to join you on your next adventure, you'll love our list of 7 dog breeds that make perfect hiking companions, according to a trainer.

“Hiking is a great way to get outside, burn some calories and enjoy natural beauty,” says Nicole Ellis, a certified professional dog trainer and pet lifestyle expert with Rover. “The good news? Dogs may actually love the activity more than people do. Most pooches will excitedly venture out on a walk, but certain breeds are better suited for the demands of a hike than others," she notes.

So what dogs love hiking the most? From water-loving retrievers to high-energy dogs, these outdoor dog breeds truly thrive on the trail. Check them out and see which one you can imagine becoming your next adventure partner. You really can’t go wrong with any of these energetic, trail-ready companions as they really are ideal dog breeds for hiking.

The 7 Dog Breeds That Make Perfect Hiking Companions

A trainer says these hiking dogs are well-suited for long trails, changing terrain and active owners who want a reliable companion for every outdoor journey.

There’s a reason Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds for hiking. They’re built for physical activity, have excellent endurance and are athletic, making them a great hiking companion for both beginners and seasoned outdoor enthusiasts looking for a reliable hiking dog to join them. They also tend to be eager to please, which makes them highly trainable on and off the trail—another reason they stand out among outdoor dog breeds.

“There aren't many hikes a young, in-shape Lab can't handle, and their loving attitude generally keeps them close to their owner,” Ellis says. “Plus, if there's a body of water at the end of the hike, that’s even better. Retrievers are natural swimmers and are fully capable of holding their own on land and in the water.”

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Active, friendly, outgoing
  • Height: 21.5-24.5 inches
  • Weight: 55-80 pounds
  • Lifespan: 11–13 years

The Black Mouth Cur is a lesser-known dog breed for hiking, but it’s exceptionally well-suited for outdoor adventures and long-distance trails. These dogs are strong, agile, and incredibly hardworking, making them one of the more capable active hiking dogs for rugged environments. “They’re resilient hunting, herding, and utility dogs with a strong build, and they’re sometimes deployed as search and rescue dogs,” Ellis explains.

Originally bred for demanding jobs in rugged terrain, this outdoor dog breed can navigate uneven ground and long distances with ease. Despite their tough exterior, Black Mouth Curs are also deeply loyal and affectionate with their owners as well.

Because of their high energy levels and strong stamina, they require regular hikes—not just for fun, but to help maintain peak physical condition, reinforcing why they’re considered one of the more endurance-focused hiking dog breeds.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Loyal, energetic, intelligent
  • Height: 16-25 inches
  • Weight: 35-95 pounds
  • Lifespan: 12–18 years

Vizslas are sleek, athletic dogs that were bred for endurance, so it's no surprise they are a trainer-recommended hiking dog. Originally used as hunting companions, they’re known for their ability to easily run long distances with ease.

“They’re a great option for someone who wants a high-energy dog that can keep up on their hiking adventure,” Ellis says.

These dogs thrive when they have a job to do, and hiking provides the perfect outlet for their energy. They also tend to form strong bonds with their owners, often sticking close by on the trail.

  • Personality: Energetic, affectionate, gentle
  • Height: 21-24 inches

Australian Cattle Dogs are true outdoor dog breeds as they are built for hard work and thrive in active environments. Their roots trace back to herding cattle across tough terrain, making them more than capable of handling challenging hikes.

“These dogs are known for an incredible work drive, so much so that experts recommend owners ensure their dog is engaged in work, sport or exercise as they can be mischievous,” Ellis explains. “They’re famous for their intelligence and are even known to outsmart their owners on occasion.”

Their stamina and sharp minds make them ideal for long, stimulating hikes. Without enough activity, they can become bored, so hitting the trails is one of the best ways to keep them happy and well-behaved.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Loyal and incredibly alert
  • Height: 17-20 inches
  • Weight: 35-50 pounds
  • Life Expectancy: 12-16 years

There's no denying it, Shetland Sheepdogs are one of the best dog breeds for hiking. They may be smaller than many other hiking breeds, but they make up for their smaller stature with boundless energy and a capable, can-do attitude. Known for their intelligence and agility, they’re always up for an adventure.

“They’re excellent family dogs, very smart and have enough energy to keep everyone satisfied on everything from hiking to fetching,” Ellis says.

They tend to be responsive and easy to train, which makes them reliable companions on the trail. While Shetland Sheepdogs may not have the same endurance as larger working breeds, they still love moderate hikes and outdoor exploration.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Bright and playful
  • Height: 13-16 inches
  • Weight: 15-25 pounds
  • Life Expectancy: 12-14 years

When it comes to hiking dogs, don't forget about English Foxhounds as they are natural athletes with plenty of energy for outdoor adventures. Originally bred for hunting and long-distance running, this outdoor breed thrives on physical activity.

“They have strong stamina and love hiking and running,” Ellis says. “With a strong work ethic, they make a great partner to hit the trails together.”

These dogs are best-suited for experienced owners who can match their energy levels. When given enough exercise, they make loyal and enthusiastic hiking companions.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Affectionate, energetic, social
  • Height: About 24 inches
  • Weight: 60–75 pounds
  • Lifespan: 10–13 years
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers A dog hiking in the wilderness.

One dog breed great for hiking is the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. This pup is often called a Toller, and is a smaller but equally energetic retriever breed. Originally bred to lure waterfowl, they’re agile, smart and eager to work.

“They’re high-energy and ready to please, making them the perfect companion for hiking, kayaking and more,” Ellis says.

Tollers also love both land and water, so hikes that include lakes or streams are ideal for these swimmers. Their compact size makes them slightly more manageable than larger retrievers, but they still have the stamina required for long outdoor adventures.

Chocolate Labrador Had One Goal During NFL Draft -- Then It Went Viral

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 11:53pm

The CBS Sports TikTok video shows the Georgia Bulldogs tight end Oscar Delp getting drafted by the New Orleans Saints—a huge, life-changing moment for anyone. Family and friends packed into the living room, everyone on their feet, cheering, hugging, celebrating.

And the dog? Waiting. Watching. Calculating.

The exact moment everyone excitedly jumps up from the couch to congratulate Oscar, the Labrador makes his move. No hesitation. No second-guessing. Just pure strategic brilliance as he quickly claims the prime couch spot that seconds earlier was occupied by the humans.

This Pup's Behavior Shows How Persistent Pets Are

What Oscar's dog displayed isn't just cute and funny—it's a masterclass in canine persistence and strategic patience.

Dogs have no lack in determination—waiting and pushing those boundaries until he got what he wanted. Dogs can be incredibly patient when they know a reward is coming, whether that's a treat, their human’s attention, or in this case, the best seat in the house.

What makes this video so very relatable is that anyone who's ever loved a dog knows this behavior. They wait, they watch and they learn your routines better than you do. The second an opportunity presents itself? They're in that spot.

Oscar Delp got drafted to the NFL. His dog got the best spot on the couch. In this household, everybody wins.

Congratulations to Oscar on the draft—and to his dog on securing prime real estate.

Mama Cat Recruits the Cutest ‘Golden’ Babysitter, and We Can’t Get Over the Sweetness

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 10:55pm

If you needed a reminder that golden retrievers are the sweetest, gentlest beings around, we’ve got you covered.

In a heart-melting video shared on Reddi’s  r/Awwww, a mama cat is seen relaxing on a blanket in a cozy bedroom with her five tiny, recently-born kittens. Then, an English cream golden retriever wanders into the scene. What happens next is pure, wholesome goodness.

Golden Retriever Steps In

The golden retriever approaches the mama cat and her kittens, and the two exchange a few polite sniffs before the dog gently leans in to check out the babies. The mama cat remains completely unbothered. It’s clear the cat trusts the dog, especially considering how protective new cat moms can be.

Then comes the moment that really has viewers melting. The mama cat casually gets up and walks away. No hesitation, no second-guessing—just a confident “your turn” energy as she leaves the golden retriever alone with her babies. It's as if she’s decided it’s time for a well-earned break, and naturally, the dog rises to the occasion.

The Most Wholesome Babysitter Ever

Instead of getting overly excited or clumsy, the golden retriever seems to instinctively understand the assignment.

The dog gently rolls onto their side, careful not to bump or disturb the kittens, then settles in beside them. At one point, they rest their head down close to the tiny group, keeping watch in the most relaxed, loving way possible.

Every so often, the dog leans in for a soft sniff, almost like a little wellness check to make sure everyone’s still okay.

By the end of the clip, the mama cat returns, and the whole group settles in together, snuggling up in one cozy, adorable pile.

The Internet Is Obsessed

Unsurprisingly, Reddit users couldn’t get enough of the interaction.

“Doggy takes the job seriously,” one person wrote in the comment section

“Momma needed a break, uncle dog knew the assignment,” another added.

And one person summed up what we’re all thinking, “That’s about the most precious trying I’ve ever seen.”

A Sweet Reminder About Animal Bonds

While cats and dogs are often portrayed as opposites, moments like this show just how adaptable and affectionate they can be.

With the right temperament, socialization and environment, many dogs can be incredibly gentle around cats and other smaller animals—and even form close bonds with them.

One thing’s for sure: if this gentle golden ever wants a side gig as a babysitter, they’ve already earned glowing reviews from this mama cat.

Golden Retriever 'Understands English' and Proves It in the Sweetest Way

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:55pm

There are smart dogs.

There are really smart dogs.

And then there's Wally, a Golden Retriever who sits there looking adorable and then casually makes you question whether he might, in fact, understand way more English than the rest of us are comfortable admitting.

@wally.meets.world

Have I convinced you yet? #goldenretriever #dogsoftiktok #talkingdog

♬ original sound - Noah

The video starts simply enough. His person tells him to sit. He does. Standard good-boy behavior. Very strong opening. But then she says, “Blink if you want your dinner,” and Wally actually does it. Not in a vague, maybe-that-counted kind of way. He really blinks like a dog who has heard the question, considered the stakes, and decided yes, I would like to formally confirm my interest in dinner.

Honestly, that would have taken me out even without the rest of the setup.

The caption says, “More proof my dog fully understands English,” and after watching this, I get why she feels that way. Because what are you supposed to do with a dog who appears to respond like that? Pretend it was random? Ignore the perfect timing? Move on with your life like a Golden Retriever didn't just blink his dinner preference directly into your soul?

Impossible.

And maybe this is why the clip works so well. It hits that exact dog-parent nerve where you are always a little convinced your dog understands everything, but then you don't say it out loud because you don't want to sound unwell. I always swear that my dog Lola understands me, too, but this is next-level. Wally is over here making a very strong case for full conversational status.

The comments are excellent, too. One person wrote, “Wally is too good for this world. ❤️❤️❤️” and yes, agreed. Another said, “Mine's the same 🤣 but selective hearing when we’re out obviously 🙄.” Which is also incredibly real. Pups can act like tiny language experts in the house, and then suddenly become full exchange students when it's time to come back inside.

He doesn't just look trained. He looks engaged. There is a little spark in it, like he knows he's being talked to and would like to participate in the most important topic available, which is dinner.

And really, that's the best kind of dog video. A tiny, ordinary moment that somehow makes you love them even more.

View this post on Instagram Do Dogs Really Understand Human Language?

Wally’s dinner blinks are adorable, but pups really can understand more than people sometimes think. The AKC notes that dogs can recognize familiar words and phrases, and newer research suggests pups can even distinguish human language from nonsense sounds and may process speech in more complex ways than we once assumed.

That doesn't mean your dog is reading novels in the den, but it does mean consistent words, tone, and routine matter. And if your Golden Retriever ever starts blinking on cue about dinner, you are legally allowed to act impressed.

Honestly, Wally blinked like he was filing a polite but urgent meal request with management.

Cats Are Loving This Cozy Costco Bed That Looks Like a ‘Kitty Spaceship’

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:55pm

If your cat has ever squeezed into a shoebox, claimed a laundry basket or disappeared into the smallest nook they can find, this Costco find might be right up their alley.

The K&H Mod Dream Pod Pet Bed—nicknamed a “kitty spaceship” by one shopper—has been catching attention for its unique, pod-like design that blends comfort, privacy and a touch of futuristic flair. And based on reviews, cats are obsessed.

K&H Mod Dream Pod Pet Bed, Gray, $39.99 at Costco

At first glance, the bed looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. Its rounded, bowl-like shape creates a semi-enclosed space, with a wide circular opening that makes it easy for cats to hop in and out.

Inside, there’s a plush, removable cushion that gives cats a soft place to curl up, while the enclosed design helps create that snug, tucked-away feeling many felines crave. The exterior is made from a durable, heavy-duty polyester, so it’s built to hold up to regular use.

The whole setup unzips at the halfway point, so you can take off the top part if your cat is feeling a more open setup.

Reviews Say It’s a Hit (Even With Multiple Cats)

In the product review section, Costco shoppers are sharing just how much their kitties love this unique pod bed.

“Cats immediately went in. Was hesitant to buy this but they love it. 3 cats went in it together (12 lbs, 9 lbs, 9 lbs). 4th cat wanted to go in too, but couldn’t fit (11 lbs). Would buy again,” one reviewer wrote.

Another added, “This cave was so popular we had to get one for each cat. It’s a perfect spot for even the most discriminating of felines.”

And in a review titled “Kitty loves spaceship!”, one shopper shared, “3 kitties and one is especially obsessed with this pod! Good buy!”

Why Cats Love Cozy, Enclosed Spaces

If your cat is constantly burrowing into blankets or hiding under furniture, there’s a reason for that.

Cats are both predators and prey by nature, which means they instinctively gravitate toward spaces where they feel protected but can still keep an eye on their surroundings. Enclosed beds like this one give them a sense of security, helping them relax more deeply.

Warmth plays a role, too. A semi-covered design traps heat, creating a cozy environment that’s especially appealing for naps (aka your cat’s favorite hobby).

An Out-of-This-World Upgrade for Your Cats

With its roomy interior (about 21 inches across), washable cushion and sturdy construction, this pod is a practical addition to your cat’s lounging lineup. And let’s be honest: the spaceship vibes don’t hurt.

If your cat loves cozy hideouts—and most do—this Costco find might just become their new favorite place to land.

$10 Million Horse Prancing Around the Show Definitely Knows His Worth

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:00pm

One of the most interesting things about humans, to me, is how we all choose to spend our money. I invest in a lot of lotions, perfumes, and other things that smell good. Some people like to buy cars.

Others, apparently, spend $10 million on a horse. It might sound crazy, but in their defense, this $10 million horse is one of the most handsome animals I've ever seen! He knows it, too. Just look at him prancing around the auction:

@averagegirlsara

his muscles are actually insane. none of the other two year olds looked like him!! #racehorses #10milliondollarhorse #ocalabreederssale #ocala #racing

♬ original sound - ۶٩

This isn't Sara's horse; she was there showing her own horse, though. This was at the Ocala Breeder's Sales: this horse is about 2 years old, and he's already pure muscle. He's in incredible physical condition, and beyond that, he's absolutely beautiful.

He doesn't have a name yet, known only as Hip 1056. He was purchased for $10.5 million by Zedan Racing, which is a well-known stable company in the horse racing circuit. They're based in Lexington, Kentucky, so this handsome horse will likely be traveling quite a way to his new home.

Related: Precious Horse Thinks Human Is ‘Her Baby’ and Becomes the Best Protector

Why Was Hip 1056 Worth So Much?

I can think of approximately 10.5 million things I would spend $10.5 million on before a horse, but the idea that a horse was worth that much is amazing to me. Hip 1056 was worth the hefty price tag because he's:

  • The first-born son of Flightline, another racehorse who recently retired undefeated.
  • A descendant of Secretariat, who's probably the best-known racehorse ever.
  • Already showing incredible potential, according to his new caretakers.

Bob Baffert, who purchased Hip 1056 on behalf of Zedan Racing, is a six-time Kentucky Derby champion. Essentially, they're paying that much for the potential that they could have the next big racehorse on their hands, since he's the equine equivalent of a nepo-baby.

Lots of Horses Are Descendants of Secretariat

These days, finding a horse who's related to Secretariat is not difficult. Secretariat was born in 1970 and had a 16-month racing career, spanning from 1972 to 1973. After winning the Triple Crown Trophy as well as American Horse of the Year, he retired from racing and instead had a long breeding career.

A statue of Secretariat.

Image via Shutterstock / Jill Lang

Secretariat sired almost 700 foals. There is no exact number of his descendants, but there are a lot of them: every single horse who raced in the 2025 Kentucky Derby was a descendant of Secretariat. Does that mean the Kentucky Derby is one big family reunion?

Being that Hip 1056 is two years old now, we should see him begin taking to the track in an official capacity soon. I hope he has a good run and then lives a long, healthy life afterward!

Flat-Faced Cat’s Post-Surgery Haircut Makes Him Look Like a Bald Bunny

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:55pm

There's something about a post-surgery pet that makes you feel equal parts protective and… slightly caught off guard. Because you're expecting “a little different,” not a full identity shift that has you doing a double take and then quietly apologizing to your cat.

This little, flat-faced cat delivers exactly that moment. One second, you're looking at a perfectly normal body, and the next, you're trying to process a haircut that makes him look like a bunny who had brain surgery.

The clip was shared on Instagram by @vet_lauren_, and as the caption puts it, “This is the worst post-surgery haircut I have ever seen.” The top of the cat’s head is shaved, leaving him with a look that's somehow both very serious and completely ridiculous at the same time.

Image: vet_lauren_/Instagram

Image: vet_Lauren/Instagram

The expression doesn't help. He looks deeply concerned. Slightly alarmed. Like he's aware something has happened, but isn't entirely sure what or why.

Related: Doodle Mid-Groom Looks Like a Walking Throw Rug

People in the comments didn't hold back. “Was the surgery to remove his brain?” one person joked, which feels harsh but also very internet. Another said, “That’s the fishiest cat I’ve ever seen. His eyes look like catfish eyes,” which is oddly specific, but somehow still lands.

Others were a little more sympathetic. “He’s bald, and I laughed so hard. Poor baby, I hope his recovery is smooth!” one commenter wrote, which is probably the most accurate emotional response. You feel bad… but you are also laughing.

One person admitted, “Somehow I didn’t notice the haircut at first. Then I looked in the mirror to see if I had the same procedure done,” which is honestly impressive. And then there was, “Bro got derp sauce on his face, too,” which really rounds out the tone here.

The reality is, post-surgery haircuts are not about looks. They are about access, cleanliness, and helping vets do what they need to do safely. But every once in a while, you end up with a look that feels… memorable.

How To Take Care of Your Cat After Surgery Tabby cat wearing a soft surgery cone.

Image Via: OzzyMac/Shutterstock

After surgery, your cat will need a calm and comfortable space to recover. Keeping them in a quiet area away from noise and activity can help reduce stress and support healing.

It's important to follow your veterinarian’s instructions closely, especially when it comes to medications, feeding, and activity levels. Some kitties may need to limit jumping or running for a period of time.

You will also want to monitor the surgical site for any signs of redness, swelling, or discharge. If anything looks unusual or your cat seems uncomfortable, it's best to contact your vet.

Using an e-collar or protective clothing can help prevent your cat from licking or irritating the area while it heals. It may not be their favorite accessory, but it plays an important role in recovery.

Most importantly, give your pet time. They may seem a little off or different at first, but with rest and care, they usually return to their normal selves quickly… even if the haircut takes a little longer to grow out.

Bernese Mountain Dog's Emotional Reaction to a New Puppy Is Breaking Hearts

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:20pm

Not all dogs love the idea of being a big brother or sister, especially if they're used to being the baby of the family.

For Gus, the Bernese Mountain Dog, losing his older brother and doggy mentor, Walter, has been a difficult change. New puppy Hank is adorable, but his presence isn't exactly Gus' vibe. During the first few interactions, "Gustopher Gusset Potato" isn't afraid to let his true feelings fly!

@waltandgusthebernese

Just as the post is captioned, Walt is probably "laughing his booty off from doggy heaven," because that's how Walt first treated little Gus when he joined the crew! It's a Bernese Mountain Dog's bittersweet symphony if I've ever seen one, not that little Hank notices or cares just yet.

There's always going to be an adjustment period with any new pets, but this is what Walt would probably call justice for all the puppy things Gus did to annoy him. Ah, sibling life, am I right?

Related: Jolly Bernese Mountain Dog's Morning Ritual With Mom Is the Sweetest

As the designated big brother who didn't ask for the title, Gus is coming along in his own way. Getting used to all that puppy energy is a lot, but at least now, maybe he can understand why Walt would get a little snippy when all Gus wanted to do was play all day!

Plus, the two of them together are the cuteness that we all need to kick off the week!

@waltandgusthebernese

♬ original sound - thebraleyfamily Easy Ways To Help Your Dog Adjust to a New Puppy

To give a new puppy the best start without sacrificing the resident older pup's quality of life, experts suggest doing a gradual introduction where each dog has their own separate space to retreat to when overwhelmed, as well as separate food and water bowls, beds, and anything else that could become a territorial issue.

When they're calm, reward them consistently and be sure the older pooch has places to escape where the puppy can't get to them if they're tired of all the shenanigans. Likewise, dedicated one-on-one time goes a long way in reassuring the first baby that they're still just as important.

With all these changes, routines are even more important than ever to establish expectations and keep anxiety low (for them and you!). Above all else, be patient. Things may not be great right away, but given time, they'll be friends eventually (hopefully!).

Florida Police Officer Wrangles Alligator With His Bare Hands and the Outcome Is Wild

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:36pm

In a jaw-dropping moment that’s taking social media by storm, a Florida police officer can be seen wrangling a stray alligatorusing nothing but his bare hands.

The bold officer came face to face with the lost alligator in a parking lot. Knowing the danger and unpredictability of a wild gator, he was quick to act, keeping the public safe while also ensuring the animal was not harmed.

The wild scene is the subject of a shocking animal video that quickly went viral on social media. In the video, the quick-thinking officer encounters an alligator in the dead of night in a parking lot. Rather than lose his composure, he acts fast. What happens next is truly remarkable.

After gathering a few random tools, the officer lures the alligator closer. He does not flinch as the alligator clamps down with its jaw. Once the alligator closes its mouth, the officer rapidly wraps his hands around its snout.

Immediately, another police officer rushes in to help. Together, the officers restrain the alligator’s mouth and tape it shut to keep everyone involved, including the alligator, safe.

Over 8,000 people liked the video, and more than 100 comments were shared. Curious commenters were quick to note the alligator’s calm demeanor, with some even calling it “friendly.” Many others suggested the animal was likely a baby.

What to Do If You Encounter an Alligator @sutteenwolf

Gator needs his walking ‘round money! Early morning at Circle B Bar Reserve resulted into something prehistoric. Seeing a big ol’ boy cross the trail in front of you is a lot cooler than it should have been. And yes. That is a woman pushing her stroller right on past. Because in Florida this is just a typical Monday. #wildlife #wildlifephotography #florida #alligator #nature

♬ original sound - sutteenwolf

While South Floridians may be used to seeing the occasional alligator roaming around, most people are not prepared to face one in the wild.

Experts suggest remaining calm if you encounter an alligator and staying at least 20 feet away from the animal. Slowly back away, but if the alligator charges, your safest option is to run in a straight line, as alligators tire quickly.

Above all else, if you come face to face with an alligator, do not panic. Alligators are likely far more scared of humans than humans are of them.

While this animal video highlights how humans and wildlife can coexist without harming the animal, it also underscores just how dangerous a day on the job for a Florida police officer can be.

Belgian Malinois Puppy Tries ‘Settle Training’ but Then Chaos Takes Over

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:35pm

There are a million reasons to love puppies. They’re cute, cuddly, and full of inquisitive charm. But if you’ve ever raised one, you know they’re also a whole lot of work.

And with high-energy, highly intelligent breeds like a Belgian Malinois, that puppy stage hits even harder. Even 30 minutes of playtime outside isn’t enough to tire them out for a moment, especially when they’re young. For Subie, a few minutes of rest quickly turned into pure puppy chaos.

Watch this little troublemaker in action in the adorable April 14 Instagram shared by @subiethemal:

His mom was just trying to grab a little breakfast while giving him some “settle training,” but resting wasn’t exactly on Subie’s mind. Instead of staying put, this mischievous pup started tugging his crate across the room. The only thing that slowed him down was the TV stand.

And when he was caught? Not a hint of regret. If anything, he looked pretty proud of himself.

Other pet parents totally understood the situation.

Mali mom @stargazer_themal shared, “Our wire crate couldn’t have any nearby objects and had zip ties for extra reinforcement. This was after a chewed-up couch while still in the crate, escaping the crate, and many other crate stories.”

@fidgettherescuemal added, “When I first taught mine to settle on a mat, she started moving her mat all around the house so she could settle where she wanted lol,” which speaks to the breed’s intelligence.

Another noted, “Malis will find a challenge everywhere.”

Belgian Malinois are known for their intelligence and energy, which is why even after a solid play session or training time, moments like this can still happen. According to the American Kennel Club, the breed thrives on both physical activity and mental engagement, especially during the puppy stage. Even with the right structure in place, they’re quick to find their own ways to stay busy, which often looks a lot like creative mischief.

Though the puppy phase has plenty of challenging moments, it’s always worth it. After all, where else could you find this much cuteness and chaos to make you smile so early in the day?

Moment Cat Finds Gopher in House at 4:30 AM Leaves Humans Stunned

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:32pm

It’s a scenario cat parents know well. Your calm, cool cat turns into a ferocious jungle cat at the mere sight of a rodent, whether real or a toy. A house cat caught on video in the midst of a serious showdown with a lost baby Gopher has the internet taking notice. No matter how well-fed and cared for indoor cats are, they still have a desire to hunt, a reminder that animals’ instincts don’t go away even if a cat is a domesticated diva like this one.

Spoiler alert: neither the cat nor the baby Gopher was harmed in the making of this viral cat video. The Gopher was escorted outside, and the cat, well, the cat got to get its desire to hunt out of its system. That’s a win-win for all. Here’s what went down.

In a viral social media video captioned, “Imagine waking up to this terrifying sound at 4:30 a.m.,” a gray-and-white housecat can be seen stalking and swatting a baby Gopher that found its way inside the house.

@krystalalvarez1

Mom utters a totally relatable, “Oh my gosh,” as she is awakened by the sound of the cat swatting the Gopher and the Gopher’s loud clicking sound. Rightly so, this Gopher detects a threat, which is where the clicking sound comes in. Gophers grind their teeth together to make the sound heard in the video, their way of seeming aggressive and threatening.

The Gopher’s clicking noise is more of an unwanted alarm clock for the humans in the house than a signal to stand down for the cat. This cat wants to hunt, and hunt he does.

What This Reveals About Cats' Hunting Instincts @breynoldswv

♬ Kung Fu Fighting - Tune Times

Regardless of how posh a cat’s life has become indoors, its nature is that of a hunter. Thank their ancestors for this deep-rooted behavior. Despite living in comfort with plush beds and premium meals, cats share 95% of their DNA with wild cats. This species is built to be predatory.

Even cat parents who haven’t experienced a surprise rodent at 4 a.m. have likely seen their cat treat a stuffed toy like a punching bag. The same goes for a child’s toy, a shoe, or a soft household item. Cats have a biological need to hunt. This behavior helps them expend energy and stay mentally engaged.

So if you’ve wondered why your cat can suddenly switch and treat a toy or small animal like an enemy, your cat doesn’t have a dark side. It is simply satisfying an instinctive drive to hunt.

If you’re having an aha moment realizing how happy your cat seems swatting at anything in its path, sometimes even your head, your cat is likely trying to tell you it needs more stimulation, like toys to chase and hunt. Otherwise, that energy may be directed at furniture, favorite shoes, or even your feet.

Like the cat in this video stalking the Gopher that wandered inside, a cat’s need to hunt is primal. This cat is simply following instinct, even if the jungle happens to be a cozy living room filled with soft beds and playful toys.

After Feeding Her Newborn Owlets, This Tired Mama Owl’s Face Says It All

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:25pm

Blink once if you're ok, babe.

A mama Barred Owl has people (aka women) nodding in agreement after giving a very relatable look to the camera following a feeding session with her owlets. With feathers out of place and an unmistakably tired expression, her beautiful but bedraggled face says everything about life with hungry babies.

As the caption rightly points out, "It's hard work taking care of little ones," and no one knows this better than this mama right here. Even though her fuzzy little owlets are irresistible, her glassy-eyed stare makes clear the exhausting truth about the early days of motherhood.

View this post on Instagram

I have been this owl, and the comments are exploding with other people who recognize that quietly desperate look, too.

"Every mother’s face," says one.

"Lmao, this is exactly what I looked like after I had my kid," admits another.

"She’s gazing into the void, questioning her life choices," adds a third.

The sympathetic comments go on and on and on.

One fan even posted a business idea, "If you ever start a greeting card company, this is the cover for a Mother’s Day card!"

Looks like Mother's Day can't come fast enough, even in the bird world. I hope there's a daddy owl ready to give this heroine a break.

Why Barred Owl Moms Look So Tired After Feeding Their Owlets

Yes, motherhood is a labor of love, and a draining one at that. Why? Because, as is the case with caring for newborn humans, tending to barred owlets is a round-the-clock job. According to the Cornell University Ornithology Lab (the host of this particular bird cam), "Now that incubation is complete, the female will spend the next two weeks brooding her owlets almost constantly. After that, the owlets will be old enough to spend some time alone, and she can take longer breaks from the nest box."

So, forgive her if she looks a little unkempt while on call 24/7. Soon, though, her sleepless nights will be a thing of the past. Young owls typically leave the nest around 4 to 5 weeks old, moving into nearby branches until they’re ready to fly at about 10 weeks. They stay close to their siblings through the summer and continue to be fed by their parents before gradually becoming independent in early fall.

This Dachshund Puppy's Tiny Howl Has Everyone Obsessed

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:22pm

Whether we’re raising puppies or human children, learning to communicate is one of the most uplifting and emotional rites of passage to witness. A tiny Dachshund’s attempt at a big dog howl is giving parents to canines and kids alike a reminder that babies of all species and breeds just want to find a way to connect and communicate. This little dog’s howl might be small, but his message is mighty: I’m here, too.

Parents to humans know that even before babies can talk, they communicate through nonverbal cues like body language. Likewise, before they can speak, children make sounds as their way to connect with the people around them.

A viral social media video of a two-month-old Dachshund’s charming attempt at howling is proof that from a young age, dogs just want to communicate and connect with their humans and other dogs, too.

With over 75,000 likes, more than 300 comments, and over 4,000 saves, the young Dachshund’s tiny howl video is a viral sensation. In the video, the Dachshund belts out the biggest howls it can muster in response to a bigger dog sibling’s more mature, off-camera howl. The dogs are having a full conversation. If only we could all speak howl.

While commenters warned the Dachshund’s howl might be less charming as the dog ages and the sound gets louder, viewers called the pup’s attempt “adorable,” “charming,” and “so cute.”

Beyond the high cute factor, this video is a reminder that dogs are pack animals at their core. There’s nothing a dog wants more than to be part of a pack. The back-and-forth howling, and this little one’s attempt to keep up with the bigger dog, is the pup’s way of joining in.

Humans are no different, which makes this dog video especially relatable. Human kids, like puppies, try to find their place by copying the behavior of older siblings, relatives, or friends.

This tiny Dachshund may look like he’s trying to find his howl, and he is, but he’s also trying to find his pack. Humans may not howl, but they communicate and try to fit in in other ways, from emulating behaviors of friends and siblings to how they dress and even how they speak.

Whether you’re a dog or a human, trying to fit in and be part of a pack is a universal milestone. Eventually, everyone finds their howl and their place. Sometimes, the process even makes for an adorable viral dog video that reminds us just how meaningful growing up can be, especially when you’re watching from the outside.

Great Dane Making the Most of Toddler’s ‘Big Boy Bed’ Still Barely Fits

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:00pm

Great Danes have my heart. They're so big and wonderful, I just wish I could have one! Unfortunately, though, my house is simply not built for that. There's no way I could fit one of those big pups in my home!

Instead, I live vicariously through people who can. Like this family: they have both a Great Dane and a toddler. When the toddler got upgraded to a big boy bed recently, his Great Dane sibling decided to try to climb in, too... And it did not go as planned:

Lombardi the Great Dane is the best influence on his baby brother. He's clearly showing him that you can't give up, even if something doesn't seem like it's going to work. Even though he doesn't technically fit, he's willing to squeeze in anyway.

Lombardi would do anything for his sibling. He hops right over those bars and into the bed, though luckily, his parents don't mind. They must have figured he would be able to: he's a Great Dane, and the bed is on the floor. You don't have to be Nancy Drew to know how that will end.

The best part about it is that this is meant to be a big boy bed, and it could probably fit a decent-sized human... But Lombardi is squeezing in. He hardly fits! I know he and the baby probably snuggle all the time, but I can't even imagine how they both squeeze onto that bed together!

Lombardi is just glad he's finally got someone to play with. When his brother was really little, things between them were a little rocky:

He's got a point. Babies really aren't good for much at first. They don't even have knee caps when they're born! They're much more fun when they're a little bit older and can drop food on the floor.

Where Do Great Danes Sleep?

The one thing I don't envy about people who have Great Danes is the fact that they have to find somewhere for them to sleep, and that much take up a lot of space. A Great Dane is basically the size of a full-grown human!

Not just any dog bed will do. Great Danes are also notorious for bone and joint problems, which means you'll want to find a bed that's:

  • Supportive.
  • Not too high, but not too low to the ground.
  • Big enough to fit them.

A lot of people actually just end up getting their Great Danes twin-sized mattresses! They have warranties, you can find orthopedic options, and you can simply put a fitted sheet and a mattress protector on them to keep them in good condition.

I bet Lombardi's parents would do that, too... If he wasn't already stealing a mattress from a baby.
