Rescue Dog Gets Lookalike Plushie and His Reaction Is Priceless

Sat, 04/11/2026 - 8:20am

Many shelter and rescue dogs take to stuffed animals because it gives them a sense of permanence in an otherwise chaotic, unstable environment. Even after finding a forever home, stuffies are the bridge connecting them to the past and present. If you think about it, it's a really sweet sentiment.

Archie is a rescue dog who already hit the family jackpot (a wish I have for all shelter pups), but this week, he received his own lookalike stuffie. His reaction is the pure, wholesome content that makes your heart smile.

Lookalike stuffies are the cutest toys to gift your pup, and Archie agrees! Even the dogs who aren't big on stuffed pets or toys would love something like this, if only for the occasional buddy to keep them company throughout the day. Archie's sweet reaction to getting his very own "twin" companion shows the power of comfort items.

Archie isn't an only child, and the energy of his canine siblings sometimes stresses him out. He's more of a cuddler who likes quiet alone time with Mom, so there's never been a better time than now for him to receive that stuffie!

With so many great dogs in need of homes, adopting a shelter dog is an immensely fulfilling experience for a slew of reasons, even if they're initially stressed from shelter life. When I first laid eyes on my senior rescue, he was so defeated he couldn't be bothered to look up or acknowledge any visitors, and he definitely didn't have any toys of his own.

That all changed the moment he knew he was leaving with us, and he lit up when we gave him his own stuffies for comfort. Now that he's been with us for a while, he still relies on those stuffies whenever he's anxious, a little too excited, or just to pass the time. They've been a life-changer for him and us.

We're thrilled to see a toy version of Archie in the world. If you've got a pup who'd love a new stuffie, you can order your very own Archie lookalike by clicking here.

Big Bernese Mountain Dog Is Inexplicably Afraid of Granny, and It's Hilarious

Sat, 04/11/2026 - 7:26am

Despite Granny being an enormous dog lover, Binky the Bernese Mountain Dog is bizarrely afraid of her and refuses to be in the same room with her and Grandpa. It creates a very entertaining, albeit frustrating, situation, especially since Binky seems to have no issue with other guests who pop by (including neighbor pup Ronnie). But with Granny, the Berner barks and hides, only adding to the mystery of why this big, boisterous pooch is so petrified of her.

Binky's mom, though laughing as she films, is clearly bothered by the whole situation and asks her viewers for help figuring out a truce between Binky and Granny. "Is this normal?" she asks. "Poor Granny is so upset."

She also jokingly accuses Binky of being ageist as she happily enjoys the company of a younger visitor while avoiding the older couple like the plague.

"Maybe it’s something about the first time she met Granny?" suggests one viewer.

It's possible, but a couple of other people wonder if it could be the grandparents' "sticks" (or canes) because of the thudding sound they make on the floors when they walk. Whatever the reason, Binky's mom is hopeful that there's a way forward because the dog is clearly missing out on some major grandma love.

Non-Stranger Danger

Dogs are incredibly loyal, but they don’t always spread the love evenly. It’s pretty common for a dog to latch onto one favorite person—or, on the flip side, single someone out with fear or even aggression.

When that happens, there’s usually a reason behind it. Past negative experiences are a big one—dogs can associate a person (or someone who looks or acts similar) with something scary. Lack of early socialization can also make certain people feel unfamiliar or threatening. Then there’s resource guarding, where a dog gets protective over food, toys, or even a favorite human. Big life changes—like a move or a new family member—can also throw them off, and sometimes, sudden aggression is actually a sign of pain or illness.

The good news: this kind of behavior is very workable with the right approach. Positive reinforcement is key—helping the dog build good associations with that person over time. Think slow, controlled interactions, lots of rewards for calm behavior, and zero forcing it. In more challenging cases, bringing in a trainer or behaviorist can make a huge difference.

When a dog singles someone out (for better or worse), it’s not random—it’s communication. And with patience, consistency, and the right support, those relationships can absolutely improve. Fingers crossed for Granny, Grandpa, and Binky!

Rescue Dog Never 'Grew Into Her Ears' and It's Over-the-Top Adorable

Sat, 04/11/2026 - 7:10am

Dogs usually have a standout feature all their own that sets them apart from their canine companions. My Dachshund has the most beautiful eyes that are like a rich, chocolate-brown color. When she looks at you, it's like she's staring into your soul. Her Pug brother is easy to pick out of a crowd because of his trademark walk, which is actually more like a hop or prance. He makes people smile just by strolling by.

Sage the rescue dog is a head-turner for a different attribute. The small, shaggy white dog has people doing a double-take for her distinctive ear size.

@brookeandsage

In the TikTok from @brookeandsage, the canine cutie mugged for the camera as she wandered around the house. Sage obviously had a peppy personality and sweet demeanor that would appeal to any pet lover.

Sage's fur looked soft and tousled, like she just rolled out of bed. Tufts of hair intermittently stuck out, giving her coat a sort of spikey vibe. Her icy-blue eyes were like looking into a glacier, making you want to stare into them all day.

Still, Sage's most noticeable feature by far was her huge ears. They had darker fur than the rest of her petite body, almost like they were added on as an afterthought. Her ears were markedly bigger than one would expect with such a small dog. Apparently, Sage's mom assumed everything would level out as she aged.

"Everyone said Sage would grow into her ears," the onscreen text explained. "So we waited... and waited."

Sage's Body Never Caught Up

The social media post featured clips of Sage as she got older, yet her ears still outsized her body.

"Here she is nearly 2 years later, ears and all!" the story continued as Sage peered into the camera with those gigantic ears, looking beyond adorable.

Followers were completely smitten with Sage and felt her enormous ears just added to her charm.

"This dog is a supermodel. Give her whatever she wants," someone noted.

"I'm so glad that she didn't grow into them. She is adorable," another raved.

"Excuse me. Those are not ears. Those are her angel wings," one pointed out.

"Sage needs to be cartoon character in a movie!" a follower suggested.

It appears to be unanimous — those ears are Sage's signature look and loved by all.

Looks aside, this feeder is designed with everyday use in mind. It’s easy to clean and refill (a must for any bird setup), and features a steel drainage grate to help keep bird seed fresh and dry.

As for sizing, the bench feeder measures 14.6 inches long, 8.1 inches wide and 9.8 inches high—giving birds plenty of space to comfortably perch and snack.

Aldi is also offering two other bird feeder designs from the same Belavi line: an adorable yellow picnic table and a charming sage green rocking chair.

Just note: bird seed isn’t included with the feeders, so you’ll need to supply your own.

Which Birds Might Stop By for a Snack?

Once you’ve got your feeder set up, don’t be surprised if it quickly turns into a popular hangout spot. Depending on where you live, the time of year and the type of seed you use, you may start seeing a variety of backyard birds stopping by throughout the day.

Common visitors include finches, sparrows, chickadees, cardinals, blue jays and mourning doves.

In other words, once you put this little bench out, you may end up with more company than you expected—and a front-row seat to your own backyard bird show.

The Kind of Aldi Find That Goes Fast

These bird feeders are part of Aldi’s rotating Aldi Finds—weekly, limited-time deals that tend to get snatched up quickly. So if one of these feeders catches your eye, it’s worth grabbing before it disappears from shelves.

Whether you’re an avid bird watcher or just someone who enjoys adding cute little details to your outdoor space, it’s an easy way to make your yard feel a bit more inviting—for both you and your feathered visitors.

7 Words That Make Dogs Feel Unsafe, According to a Trainer

Sat, 04/11/2026 - 6:10am

As a pet parent, you may try to do everything you can to keep your dog safe. You focus on their environment, routines and physical health—but the words you say to your dog matter just as much. In fact, many dog moms and dads don’t realize that certain everyday phrases can trigger dog anxiety. Though, since dogs communicate different than people do, it can be hard to nail down what words may actually scare your dog. To help you understand your dog better, a professional pet trainer shared 7 common words that make dogs feel unsafe, along with tips to help your furry friend feel secure and loved.

"Words are understood via association for dogs," says Annie-Mae Levy, CFBA, professional dog trainer at Woofz, a puppy and dog training app." This means that most words are predictive of what’s going to happen next. Plus, saying words with stern or angry tone signals to a dog that something unpleasant might be about to occur, often, whereas a high-pitched baby talk kind of tone usually will make them feel excited and happy."

When your dog feels uncomfortable when they hear you say something, they will try to let you know they are stressed, though pet owners can unintentionally miss their cues. "Body language is a great indicator of how your dog is feeling," Levy explains. "For example, when you are speaking to them, you want to see your dog readily coming over to you and be engaged by wagging its tail, offering eye contact and showing loose, fluid body language. Those are signs your dog feels safe." What are some signs your dog doesn't feel safe? Levvy adds if your dog tenses up, avoids eye contact, lowers its ears, or retreats, these behaviors indicate that your dog feels uneasy, stressed, or unsafe. Recognizing these signals is key to understanding dog behavior, reducing dog anxiety, and building a stronger bond through positive communication. Read on to learn what not to say to your dog so you can avoid those terms altogether. Plus, discover trainer-approved tips on what to say instead.

It's important to understand that there are words that make dogs feel unsafe so that you can avoid using them. Some of the phrases dogs hate hearing, provided by our pet expert, may surprise you. See what they are below!

1. “Bye”

Your dog loves being around you so when they hear you say "bye" when you leave for work or run an errand, it can make them feel unsafe because they associate it with you leaving them. So, while this common word people say to their pets may make you sad to say, it can make some pups feel uncomfortable and uneasy, especially if they have separation anxiety.

"Leaving cues can be something dogs are very sensitive to," Levy notes. "If ‘bye’ signals that you’re going out for a couple of hours, and your dog has not been trained to cope with this, hearing ‘bye’ might trigger a flood of anxiety."

With consistent, calm routines and positive reinforcement, you can help your dog feel secure even when you leave. Pairing goodbyes with treats, toys, or gentle praise teaches your pup that departures are safe, reducing dog anxiety and strengthening trust. Over time, your dog will associate leaving cues like “bye” with safety and calm, rather than fear or stress.

2."No"

When it comes to words that make dogs feel unsafe, this is one of them. Dogs generally don't like the word "no." But Levy shares that screaming "no" can scare dogs even more.

"A loud and sudden 'no’ can feel alarming and unpredictable for a dog who is then likely anticipating a negative consequence to occur," Levy explains.

How can you make your dog feel safe instead? By replacing fear-based commands with specific, gentle guidance, you reduce dog anxiety, build trust, and encourage confident, safe behavior. "In these situations, giving an alternative direction, such as ‘bed,' gives your dog a clear behavior they can fall back on instead," says Levvy.

3. "Crate"

Crates can be a Zen den for dogs. However, when they're used as punishment, saying "crate" becomes one of the words that make dogs feel unsafe. "Most of us want the dog to feel as if the crate is a safe space for them, a den to go to when they want to rest or get away from the household," Levy explains. "If we start sending the dog here when we're angry, this can build some conflict and start making them view this space more negatively."

Using their crate as a punishment can increase dog anxiety, disrupt trust, and confuse your pup about what the space is really for. Understanding dog behavior and practicing positive dog communication helps ensure that the crate remains a safe, comforting environment instead of a source of stress.

4. "Bad Dog"

While you might think saying “bad dog” is an effective way to discourage unwanted behavior—like eating something off the floor—Levy explains that it can actually make dogs feel unsafe and anxious.

"When you say ‘bad,’ your dog can’t understand what they did wrong or how to fix it. This uncertainty can trigger dog anxiety and stress because they feel confused and unsafe in trying to please you," she notes.

Instead, using a clear cue like “leave it” or “place” gives your dog the guidance they need to correct their behavior. Focusing on positive dog communication and specific instructions helps your pup feel secure, understand expectations, and build trust in their relationship with you.

5. "Come"

The word “come” isn’t inherently bad—it’s actually an important cue to call your dog to safety. However, Levy explains that many pet parents unintentionally make this word a source of stress and confusion, which can make dogs feel unsafe or anxious.

"If ‘come’ starts to predict the end of something enjoyable, like leaving the dog park—or worse, being grabbed or restrained—it’s no surprise that dogs may begin to hesitate or resist recalling to their owners," Levy notes. "This creates dog anxiety because your pup starts associating the word with negative experiences rather than safety and fun."

To keep the come cue positive, pair it with food, toys, or praise whenever possible, and avoid shouting it in anger. Focusing on positive dog communication ensures your dog understands that responding to “come” is safe, rewarding, and builds trust rather than stress.

6. "It’s OK"

It might surprise you to see this phrase among the words that make dogs feel unsafe. Levy notes that many pet parents say “It’s OK” in a sing-songy voice with the best intentions—to soothe—but it can often have the opposite effect.

"If ‘It’s OK’ is repeated incessantly when your dog is distressed, they can start to associate these words with feelings of panic, searching for the stressful trigger rather than calming down," Levy explains. This is a subtle but important aspect of dog behavior that many owners overlook, showing how even comforting words can unintentionally trigger dog anxiety.

That doesn't mean you can never use this one on your dog. You just need to know your pet and pick your spots. "For dogs who are already feeling bad, repeating, 'It's OK,' calmly and slowly, is absolutely fine and might be comforting, but avoid saying this in a way that might make it sound as if you are anxious too," Levy says.

7. "Why?"

If your dog stole your socks while you were at work, try to avoid going up to them and using the word “why?” Even though you’re probably curious about their action, this word can make dogs feel unsafe or anxious, often because of the tone you use when saying it.

"When some time has passed between when your dog did something ‘naughty’ and you realizing what happened, your dog will be unable to connect your tone and bad mood with their behavior," Levy explains. This is an important aspect of dog behavior that many pet owners overlook.

Levy notes that dogs don’t even follow the “5-second rule” in their own minds. "Dogs have about a two-second memory for building associations, so when we scold them long after the behavior, it can be very confusing and stressful," she adds. Using words like “why?” in this way can unintentionally trigger dog anxiety and miscommunication, which is why understanding dog communication cues is essential for keeping your pup feeling safe and secure.

8 Grey Cat Breeds That Are Sweet, Calm and Family-Friendly

Sat, 04/11/2026 - 5:10am

Deciding you’re ready to welcome a cat into your household is a big deal. But actually choosing the perfect feline is a whole other story. Each family has their own checklist and that may include getting a pet that has a certain coat color. If a grey cat is your dream pet, there are plenty of silver cat breeds out there that make the perfect family pet. Though, if you’re not sure where to start, you’ll love our list of 8 grey cat breeds that will capture your heart with their calm, family-friendly temperament, according to vets.

Of course, each family is different, making it hard to say that every smokey-colored feline will be a good fit for every person. So, what advice do vets have when it comes to choosing a grey cat? “Always take into consideration early socialization and the environment at home before deciding on which breed best suits your family’s lifestyle,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. Beyond that, she notes that energy levels, curiosity, playfulness and grooming needs are all worth considering as well—especially since knowing what you want in advance can go a long way toward helping you find the right cat for you.

Of course, you’ve got to start somewhere. If you’re looking for a grey feline, kick off your search with these pretty cat breeds. From grey British Shorthairs and grey Tabby cats, to silver-colored pedigree cats, fluffy blue cat breeds, like Persians, and everything in between, our list is filled with tons of cute felines companions.

8 Grey Cat Breeds

Grey cats, also called silver or blue cats, aren’t just stunning—they’re known for their easygoing, kind personalities. These 7 grey cat breeds are celebrated for being affectionate and family-friendly, making them ideal companions for any home looking for a relaxed and loving feline friend.

If you’re looking for a grey cat with charming stripes, you’ll quickly fall in love with grey Tabby cats. These cats aren’t just stunning—their pattern coats catch the eye, but it’s their calm, friendly personalities that truly make them special. Grey Tabbies are affectionate, playful, and easygoing, making them ideal companions for families and anyone seeking a loving, family-friendly feline friend. Their gentle, adaptable nature means they thrive in homes with other pets or children, which is why they are one of the most lovable and reliable grey cat breeds.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Calm, sweet
  • Weight: 8-15 pounds
  • Lifespan: 10-18 years
British Shorthair A cute British Shorthair blue kitten lying on carpet.

Don’t be fooled by the British Shorthair’s grumpy old man look. This grey cat breed is a total sweetie at heart. In fact silver British Shorthairs are friendly and laidback, making for a low-key pet around the house, according to Julie Hunt, DVM, a veterinarian contributor at Embrace Pet Insurance. But, like all breeds, “British Shorthair cats can have a variety of personality traits,” she says.

These cats with grey coats tend to be more into watching the action than hanging in your lap—a great trait for families that want a pet, but have busy lifestyles. But while the British Shorthair is happy to do its own thing, they also like to play and be active in short bursts. Another bonus? They are great with kids and other pets, too!

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Gentle, easy-going
  • Weight: 8-16 pounds
  • Lifespan: 12-20 years
Scottish Fold  A grey Scottish Fold cuddled in a blanket.

Prefer a more cuddly cat? Meet the Scottish Fold. This steel-colored cat breed has signature folded-over ears and an equally adorable personality. "They are affectionate and bond strongly with their owners," Hunt says. "They also like to follow owners from room to room, just to be nearby."

Though, it's hard to tell what you’ll get on the lap cat front if you get one of these felines. Some Scottish Folds prefer to cozy up on you, while others would rather hang nearby. However, if you prefer a lap cat, Hunt suggests adding a blanket to your lap to encourage your pet to curl up. She adds that Scottish Folds do love to be around people though. In fact, they get so attached that they may get separation anxiety when they’re left alone for too long. But, if you have a bustling household, that shouldn't be an issue.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Loyal, playful
  • Weight: 7-10 pounds
  • Lifespan: 11-14+ years
Russian Blue A pretty Russian blue cat sitting in a hallway.

"The Russian Blue is so chill that it may seem a little aloof at first," according to Warner. "But this indoor grey cat is incredibly affectionate once it bonds with people." The Russian Blue is another grey at breed that is super playful and loving. Plus, they are even easy to groom—just brush them once or twice a week and you’ll be good.

Once you and your Russian Blue bond, Warner says you may find that they’re always around. In addition, these grey felines get along well with kids and even other pets, just in case you want to build up your crew. They’re also happy to hang at home alone for those times when you and the family need to be out and can't bring them along.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Playful, affectionate

  • Lifespan: 10–20 years
Persian A beautiful blue Persian cat in a livingroom.

Are blue Persian cats grey Persian cats? They are! And if you come across one, you'll see that they are total showstoppers thanks to their big silver coats. But this fluffy grey cat also has a personality that makes it an excellent fit for families. “They are known for being calm, sweet, lower-energy cats that prefer to lounge,” Hunt says.

But while this is a low-energy cat, it still has plenty of affection to dish out. “They are affectionate cats, often preferring to sleep with their owner and sit in their owner’s lap,” Hunt says. “I’ve known owners who refer to their Persian as a ‘sweet floof,’ which is an excellent description.” Persians don’t make a lot of noise, either, just in case you prefer to maintain a quieter household.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Gentle, quiet, easy-going
  • Weight: Varies
  • Lifespan: 8-11 years
Nebelung A fluffy dark grey Nebelung cat by a window.

Another great grey cat to consider are Nebelungs. They actually share a family history with the Russian Blue breed, but were specially bred to create a medium-haired cat with thick fur. “They are known to be calm, quiet and gentle cats, so they make a good family pet,” Hunt.

She praises this grey cat breed’s affectionate and loyal nature with their owners. “Some Nebelungs will follow the owner through the house and love to snuggle, but others are more aloof and instead prefer to be nearby rather than touching their owners,” Hunt says. Nebelungs are known for their high intelligence, Hunt points out. They also love to be playful—a nice personality trait for families with kids.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Smart, devoted
  • Weight: 8-15 pounds
  • Lifespan: 11–16+ years
Chartreux A grey Chartreux cat on a kitchen counter.

What's one of the best grey cat breeds for families? The Chartreux! They are known for their gorgeous pumpkin-colored eyes, but there’s so much more to this pretty grey cat than that. “Chartreux cats are often referred to as serene, gentle and subtly affectionate,” Warner says. "They are often highly devoted to their family, but not necessarily a cat that requires a lot of attention or wants to be the center of attention.”

Instead, this indoor grey cat breed likes to form very close relationships with its people. “They are also considered as a highly perceptive and intelligent cat, and they always appear to observe and think before acting,” Warner says. While Chartreux cats can be playful, too, Warner says their silliness tends to be less intense than that of other breeds. "Ultimately, the Chartreux is often the easygoing, quietly companionable cat,” Warner says.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Affectionate, gentle
  • Weight: 8-15 pounds
  • Lifespan: 8-13+ years
Korat A grey Korat cat laying on a shelf.

The Korat has a sweet, heart-shaped face that’s hard to resist. “This calm silver-colored cat is appreciated for its loving and family-friendly nature,” Warner says. "When it comes to their personality, they can be sensitive, and tend to develop very strong relationships with their owners as a result as well."

Warner calls this type of grey cat “gentle and loving,” making them a great fit for kids. But grey Korat cats are super smart, too. “Korats are generally described as intelligent and emotionally-engaged pets,” Warner says. “They thrive in homes where they feel safe and secure.”

If you are someone who likes to cuddle, you're in luck because these grey companions are definitely lap cats, so they will happily climb into your arms or lap for a snuggle.

Rabbits Are Suddenly Roaming the Streets and the Reason Is Beyond Sad

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 9:38pm

In the Canadian town of Saskatoon, rabbits are roaming the streets. While it may seem like the city has been overtaken by a pack of wild rabbits, these loose bunnies are actually former pet rabbits released by their humans. A local rescue called River Haze Street Rabbit Rescue says it sees an influx of loose rabbits every spring, calling the annual incident "very sad."

Post-Easter, some people who take in a baby rabbit as an in-home Easter bunny sometimes rethink their choice. Seeing wild rabbits in the city’s parks and wooded areas, some mistakenly believe their pets can survive in the wild if they decide they no longer want them at home.

Domesticated rabbits are very different from wild rabbits and cannot survive the elements the way their wild counterparts can. Not only is it dangerous to release domesticated rabbits into the wild, but overpopulation can also occur when domestic animals are abandoned.

Why Abandoned Rabbits Become a Growing Problem @rlbtravels

Several Vancouver parks are overrun with loose European rabbits, and parts of Alberta also report feral rabbit populations. While rabbits are cute to look at, feral populations can pose health risks to other animals and to humans who attempt to handle or feed them.

European rabbits can reproduce rapidly, with females capable of giving birth to up to 30 young in a single year.

So what’s the real reason so many pet rabbits are abandoned each spring? The influx is often linked to people deciding a baby rabbit will make a cute Easter gift for their children, only to realize they have taken on more responsibility than expected.

Rabbits are not low-maintenance pets. They need plenty of space to move around, and some breeds can grow to around 30 pounds when fully mature. In addition, rabbits require constant access to hay or grass to keep their digestive systems healthy. They also need regular mental stimulation to stay healthy.

If that sounds like a high-maintenance pet, it is. So rather than taking in a baby rabbit for Easter only to abandon it a week later, it is better to choose a stuffed bunny. Even better, a chocolate bunny does not need hay, grass, or companionship from other rabbits.

Golden Retriever Overcome With Zoomies After Flood Turns Backyard Into a Pool

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 9:20pm

Some dogs see a flooded backyard and think, problem.

This Golden Retriever saw a flooded backyard and thought, "My time has come."

The video, filmed in Kenosha, Wisconsin, opens on a yard that has basically become one giant accidental splash zone after heavy rain. Then the dog gets let out and immediately goes full chaos goblin. No hesitation. No caution. No, “Let me check the depth first.” Just instant zoomies through the water like he has been waiting his whole life for management to install a private pool. The widely shared clip says David Schultz filmed it on April 4 after rain flooded the yard, and said, “Being the nut that he is, he got the zoomies immediately in the middle of the flood.”

@abc7chicago

A dog in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was delighted when recent flooding transformed his backyard into his own personal pool. Hilarious footage filmed by David Schultz on April 4 shows his dog whizzing around the waterlogged backyard. “We had a lot of rain and the backyard flooded,” Schultz told Storyful. “When I was about to let the dog out I said we should film this to see what he does.” “Being the nut that he is he got the zoomies immediately in the middle of the flood,” he added.

♬ original sound - abc7chicago - abc7chicago

And honestly, that tracks.

This is not polite splashing.

This is full emotional support swamp behavior.

He tears across the yard with the kind of joy only a Golden Retriever can pull off, as if the universe finally delivered the weird little water park he knew he deserved. It is one of those videos where the setup is already funny, but the dog’s commitment somehow makes it even better. He is not adapting to the flood. He is celebrating it.

The commenters understood the assignment, too. One person wrote, “Goldfish mode activated.” Another said, “What dog? All I see is a land fish 🧐.” Both are correct. This is not normal backyard behavior anymore. This pup has crossed over into a new category of being, somewhere between Retriever and decorative pond creature.

What makes the whole clip work so well is that it feels like such a perfect Golden Retriever response to inconvenience. A soggy yard is supposed to be annoying. Messy. A whole problem. But this dog looks at the same situation and sees luxury. Adventure. Opportunity. If optimism had fur and terrible impulse control, it would look exactly like this.

View this post on Instagram

And truly, that is why people love dogs so much. They can turn the dumbest possible moment into something delightful. This Golden did not just find joy in a flooded yard. He attacked joy at full speed.

Respect.

Floodwater Is Funny Until It Isn’t

As hilarious as this is, flooded yards are not always safe for dogs. The AKC warns that floodwater can contain bacteria, parasites, chemicals, sharp debris, and hidden hazards, and advises pet parents not to let dogs drink it and to rinse them off if they get into it.

So yes, the zoomies are incredible. But if your dog turns into a water-loving maniac after a storm, it is smart to supervise closely, keep the splash session brief, and clean them up afterward.

Honestly, this Golden hit that flooded yard like he had just been accepted into fish school.

Brussels Griffon and Tiny Tortoise Hatchling Are the Cutest New Couple

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 8:55pm

There's nothing cuter in the entire world than baby pets. Sure, human infants are cool and all, but there's something innocent and magical about a little fur companion learning to navigate everything around them.

As it turns out, even older pets—like a Brussels Griffon named Dottie—are fascinated with the tiny newbies, like a 66-day-old Tortoise hatchling named Nova. Together, these two are your new favorite "it" couple!

@dottiethedwarf

Finally a family member smaller than Dot 😂 💕 Dottie and one of the tortoise hatchlings (Nova) who is aged 66 days post-hatchđŸ„šđŸą All four hatchlings are continuing to do well, mum and dad are off to hibernate but we’ll have these 4 all year round. Lovely to see them gaining more confidence around humans and dwarf griffons! 😘 #dogreels #dog #cute #foryoupage #foryou

"Finally, a family member smaller than Dot," the sweet video is captioned in part, and I'm sure that's why Dottie is so enamored! There aren't many others smaller than her!

Nova is one of four little ones whose parents are hibernating, but she's in good paws with her doggy siblings. The way Dottie is so gentle and kind with the baby Tortoise is helping teach confidence, kindness, and most of all, love!

Related: Brussels Griffon Dressed Like a Mini Cow Throws an Adorable 'Stompy' Fit for a Chew

Most days, the Brussels Griffon (who has dwarfism) is usually doing something sassy, spicy, feisty, or just plain hilarious. Whether it's her funny reactions, cute outfits, or being an adorable internet star, the 6-year-old pup is always in charge.

But the day she first met an 11-day Tortoise hatchling, her whole life changed. Dottie's initial response to the intro was to immediately give kisses, and that's 100% Dottie. She's like a Sour Patch Kid: sour one minute, but so sweet the next! I think the newcomers will soon understand how awesome their pup sister truly is!

@dottiethedwarf

Early this month our Hermann’s tortoise eggs hatched and 4 new babies joined the family.🐱 The hatchlings have been growing steadily and doing well.đŸ€žđŸ» To avoid spamming everyone with daily tortoise updates here, you can follow their journey over at: @torty.tails on Instagram 💚 I know many of you have been wondering how Dottie would react to her new “siblings.” Until today, she hadn’t really met them. She’d only seen these tiny “moving rocks” in a box from a distance and they weren’t particularly interesting to her. 😂 Today Dot met one of the bravest babies,11 days old.
. I did not expect that reaction at all. đŸ„čđŸ„° ************************ ⚠ NOTE: While salmonella transmission is theoretically possible from reptile, the risk from this is very low. Especially when the tortoise is clean, there is no faecal contamination, and contact is brief. The shell itself is not inherently infectious. Salmonella is typically spread via faeces or contaminated surfaces rather than the animal itself, and good hygiene, clean enclosures, brief contact on a shell all make transmission unlikely. Plenty of more common everyday dog behaviours carry more risk - ie. Letting dogs drink from puddles, streams, or shared dog bowls, or sniffing other dogs’ urine or faeces on walks etc. #dog #tortoise #tortoises #babyanimals #funnyanimalvideos

♬ Monkeyshine-JP - Lt FitzGibbons Men Do Dogs and Turtles Usually Get Along?

As adorable as Dottie is with the baby, experts say dogs and Tortoises aren't usually the best match for a few reasons, but mostly because it can end with injuries. While bigger pups might think the Tortoise is a toy to chew or destroy (like a moving rock!), smaller dogs could be injured by the Tortoise should they choose to bite.

Of course, it always depends on your dog's temperament around other pets. Dottie is the poster girl for how a pooch should interact with smaller pets, and she deserves major props. That little one is going to grow up one lucky gal, surrounded by nothing but love!

Dachshund's Trip to Special Dachshund Cafe Is Too Cute To Resist

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 8:20pm

The Dachshunds have officially taken over. It is their world, and we are just living in it.

Case in point: The very popular clothing store, Aritzia, has converted their in-house cafes (at certain locations) into Dachshund-themed cafes because, well, Dachshunds sell.

We see that in a new video from @itsbelladox featuring Bella, the Dachshund.

This adorable little girl is taking a trip to a Dachshund-themed cafe at the Aritzia in Brickell, Miami.

In addition to some delicious-looking pastries for humans (we assume) and coffee with Dachshund-foam designs, there are definitely treats for dogs as well.

Bella could not look more excited as she gets ready to enter.

Why Dachshunds Continue To Reign Supreme

It seems that Dachshunds continue to rule not only in dog popularity but also in retail.

Writer Payton Turtletaub wrote of these popular little dogs, “Dachshunds have decidedly become the latest 'It' breed, offering the perfect purebred solution for pet [parents] looking for the goldilocks of dogs—that is, one that is more petite than a Golden Retriever, less controversial than a French Bulldog, and for now, at least, a bit less basic than a Doodle.”

Rover’s Most Popular Dog and Cat Breeds Report, released a few months ago, named Dachshunds as one of the top 10 most popular breeds across the U.S.

With their beautiful hair (long, short, or wired), dynamic personalities, and chic sense of style, it’s no wonder Dachshunds are the new “It” dog, and they absolutely deserve to have a fun day at their own cafe.

Golden Retriever Endures His Chihuahua Brother Like a True Professional

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 7:55pm

There is a very specific kind of patience that only certain dogs possess. The kind where they are technically calm, but you can feel the internal screaming. That is exactly what is happening here.

The caption reads, “POV: You’re a Golden Retriever, so you can’t crash out. Mom says to be nice to your brother,” and I need you to understand how seriously this Golden Retriever is taking that assignment. Because his tiny Chihuahua brother is running full speed circles around him like a caffeinated tornado, and he is just
 sitting there. Processing. Enduring.

@oatsandbutters

Mom said be nice to your brother

♬ original sound - oatsandbutters

TikTok user @oatsandbutters shared a clip of the little Chihuahua, who is absolutely unhinged, zipping around, while the Golden Retriever sits with the most restrained, deeply tired expression I have ever seen on a dog. He is not reacting. He is not engaging. He is simply surviving.

Related: Standard Poodle Treats His Dog Brother’s Ear Just Like a Chew Toy

The comments were painfully accurate.

“That is the most unbothered, bothered dog ever,” one person wrote, which perfectly sums it up.

“He’s thinking of getting another human,” another added, and honestly, fair.

“The patience of a saint!” which
 yes. Absolutely.

“I’ve watched this an embarrassing amount of times,” same.

“He looks like he needs some Tylenol,” which might be the most relatable part.

“I strive to be this unbothered,” and then, “He’s rethinking his life choices,” which you can absolutely see happening in real time.

I keep watching his face because it never changes. The Chihuahua is chaos. The Golden Retriever is acceptance. Somewhere in between is a lesson about self-control that I personally do not have.

What Dogs Can Teach Their Dog Siblings Two happy dogs together.

Image Via: sanjagrujic/Shutterstock

Dogs learn a lot from each other, especially when they live in the same home. Older or calmer dogs often help set the tone, showing younger or more energetic pups how to behave, when to settle, and how to interact appropriately.

In situations like this, the more patient dog is often modeling boundaries without escalating. Even if it looks like quiet suffering, that calm presence can actually help the other dog learn when to slow down.

Dog siblings also teach each other social cues, communication, and play styles. Over time, even the most chaotic little brother tends to pick up on those signals, especially when they are consistently reinforced.

And sometimes, what they teach is simple. Breathe. Stay calm. And maybe
don’t crash out, even when you really want to.

Stunning Dog-Shaped Cloud Formation Captured From Airplane Window Is Amazing

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 5:16pm

Sometimes you look out an airplane window and see clouds. And sometimes you see something that instantly takes your breath away.

A passenger on a flight from Bali captured mindblowing video of a cloud formation that looked exactly like a sweet dog sitting peacefully in the sky. The Weather Channel shared it with the caption, "On a flight from Bali a passenger captured a video of a cloud formation that looked like a dog sitting. Do you see it? đŸ¶â˜ïž"

And once you see that sweet pup, it’s impossible to unsee it. A dog, sitting calmly, silhouetted against the sky like it's watching over everything below.

The text overlay simply says: "Cloud formation resembles dog during flight," but the comments reveal what people really saw: something much deeper.

"That's someone's baby looking down on them 😭," somebody wrote, seeing a departed pet watching over their person.

"It's doggy heaven," recognizing where this cloud dog might be.

"That's Laika looking skyward and guarding the crew of Artemis II. She'll wait for them to safely return home," honoring the first dog in space.

"Rainbow bridge 🌈 guard đŸ„°đŸ˜đŸ˜," saying out loud what many were thinking.

"That's someone's doggo looking after their owner 💚," the comfort in that thought.

"Oh ❀ looks like he’s sitting on the porch watching the sunset 🌅," the peacefulness of the image.

The cloud formation is absolutely  stunning. But what makes it so meaningful is what animal lovers are finding in it—comfort, connection, signs from beloved pets who've already crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

The Rainbow Bridge Concept Brings Comfort to Grieving Pet Owners

The Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful idea and poem that's brought real comfort to pet owners for decades. It describes a peaceful, beautiful place where pets who've passed on are free from pain, healthy and happy, playing in open meadows while they wait for the people they loved to arrive.

The concept appears on sympathy cards, memorial stones, social media tributes, and in online communities where people share stories of losing their beloved pets. For many grieving the loss of a fur baby, it offers genuine and true solace.

Losing a pet can feel like losing a best friend or a family member—because that's often exactly what they were. A constant, comforting presence always on hand with unconditional love. Someone who was just always there. When that's gone, the grief is real, sometimes debilitating and deserves to be honored.

Not everyone will understand that deep, all-consuming grief. But for those of us who've loved and lost a beloved pet, seeing a cloud shaped like a peaceful dog sitting in the sky? That can feel like exactly the sign they needed.

Maybe it's just a cloud. Or maybe it's something much more meaningful. Either way, it's absolutely beautiful, in all the ways.

His Heartbroken Face Will Break You, but This Shelter Dog’s Ending Is Pure Joy

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 4:48pm

The car ride started with a heavy silence and a downward gaze.

For a dog that has spent time in the rescue system, a car is not always a precursor to a hike or a pup cup. Often, it is the vehicle that moved them from one temporary cage to another.

đŸŸ SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friendsđŸŸ

One dog posted in Reddit's r/Awwww subreddit thought he was going back to the shelter, and he sat quietly in the front seat. His eyes looked like he was ready to cry, and his entire body seemed to scream, “Are we going back?” He didn’t make a single sound.

No excitement, no curiosity. Just the same subdued posture many shelter dogs fall into when something doesn’t feel right.

And then, everything changed. The car stopped, the door opened and instead of going back to the shelter, this dog found his forever home.

As we see in the video posted on Reddit, within seconds, he started running, spinning and bursting into full-body zoomies as he met his new dog siblings. That is the emotional switch that hits hard.

The Moment He Realized He's Going to His Forever Home

One Redditor put it perfectly, commenting, “Awwh, the moment he realized he was going to a forever home! Thats just so heartwarming. I hope hes super happy now!"

Others couldn’t get enough of the sweet story, writing, “How can something so beautiful can make me cry my eyes out?”

Do Dogs Have a Sixth Sense?

Dogs are far more perceptive than we give them credit for. There is a reason that car ride felt different for the pup in the video.

It is not just scent either. Dogs are also extraordinarily sensitive to the emotional weight of silence. On that car ride, there was no excited chatter, no familiar music, no upbeat tone in the air. Just the quiet that comes when humans are bracing themselves.

For a dog that had already lived through loss, that silence probably felt very familiar.

This dog had been in the system. He'd gone on those car rides before. His body had learned what they meant, and this time, it was wrong. The moment the door opened and the energy shifted, he did not hesitate.

His body made the decision before his mind could catch up. Instead of going back to the shelter, he understood the change of energy that meant he was going to a forever home.

Energetic Pup Wows With Impressive Dance Moves in Intense Standoff With a Cat

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 3:33pm

There couldn’t be a better example of opposites attracting than the relationship between cats and dogs. Famously combative while simultaneously friendly and harmonious depending on the individual animals, having both species under the same roof will always keep pet parents both on their toes and constantly attempting to record the shenanigans.

In a recent video shared to the r/funnypets subreddit by u/missprolqui, this special relationship is highlighted by a dog and a cat squaring off and putting on quite an impressive fighting display. As the scene plays out, it becomes abundantly clear that the two animals are in completely different fighting classes, as the dog shows off a rather unorthodox style and the cat defends itself in cautious confusion.

Dog’s 'Razzle Dazzle' Leaves Cat Completely Confused

“Cat: ‘just fight, why do you dance?’,” u/missprolqui jokingly captioned their post, which has garnered dozens of responses and loads of attention since first uploading.

“If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS,” one viewer chimed in.

The video starts with the two animals face to face, seemingly waiting for the other to make the first move. As the dog’s tail wags, the cat slowly lifts its right paw, and when the dog flinches, the cat suddenly lunges. The two tussle for a second before separating, and that’s where the chaos begins.

As the dog seems to lunge in for a counterattack, instead, it pulls a completely unexpected move and starts spinning in circles. The cat stands still and watches in confusion as the dog makes a couple quick circles, lunges at the cat, makes a couple more quick circles and lunges again, repeating the process.

“It's the old razzle dazzle,” one viewer wrote. “Never let them know your next move, I guess..” another added.

“Dog uses confusion successfully,” a third fan chimed in, while another added, “When your opponent takes the fight in a completely unexpected direction.”

A Perfect Example of Dogs and Cats at Play

As the video plays out, the same pattern continues, with the two pets occasionally locked in arms for a brief second before the pup resorts back to spinning and the cat sits and watches in disbelief. After about a minute, the dog starts to lose interest, retreats under the dinner table and curls up beneath a chair, leaving the cat to wonder, “what the heck just happened?”

Dogs and cats may look like they’re fighting, but a lot of the time it’s just how they play with each other, especially in households where they are already familiar with one another. And while their play styles can differ in many ways, with dogs being loud and physical while cats are quieter and more calculated, this usually leads to some pretty hilarious confusion between the two.

Healthy play between the two species generally involves some form of chase, swatting and taking turns roughhousing without actually trying to hurt each other. Though it can look chaotic from an outsider’s perspective, as long as both animals keep engaging without the other trying to escape, it’s usually a sign they’re just having fun and figuring each other out or settling some differences in the moment.

In the case of this hilarious cat and dog duo, we’ll chalk this one up to a win for the cat as the dog seemed to be the first to back down despite the heavy onslaught of spinning moves. And as the two take some time to decompress from the physical confrontation, maybe the cat will use the opportunity to plan a better counterattack for next time.

Dachshund Begs Like Crazy for a Bite of 'Raising Canes' and People Want Justice

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 1:46pm

Some dogs will beg politely. Percy the dramatic Dachshund? She's putting on a full performance.

There's a TikTok from @percy.lynn2 where Percy's watching her human eat Raising Cane's chicken, and the caption reads, "She's a real big fan of @Raising Cane's đŸ¶đŸ—" which is an understatement.

The text overlay says "Percy really wanted some Canes" and the video proves it. Percy's doing the tippy taps. The pleading eyes. The full-body wiggle. She's deploying every weapon in the begging arsenal.

And the internet had strong opinions about whether Percy got any chicken.

"Give that baby a chicken wing before I get ugly in these comments đŸ€Ł" somebody threatened on Percy's behalf.

Raising Cane's commented, " She said please!!" pointing out Percy's manners.

"All dachshunds are fatties 😭," a Dachshund parent recognizing the breed's food motivation.

"You got me Percy, you can have all my Canes," Ulta Beauty's official account surrendering.

"Percy needs her own order next time đŸ„șđŸ«¶," HomeGoods' official account weighing in.

Related: Great Dane Gets One Last Tearful, Happy Birthday Before Crossing Rainbow Bridge

"My dachshund also dances for the things she wants" confirming this is standard Dachshund behavior.

"The little tippy taps đŸ„č," capturing what everyone was watching.

Percy's technique is flawless. The tippy taps alone would be enough, but she's combining multiple strategies simultaneously. It's advanced begging.

Dogs Beg for Food Because the Behavior Gets Rewarded

Here's what's happening with Percy's performance: begging is a learned behavior. Dogs try something, it works, they file that information away and repeat it. If pleading eyes once produced a piece of chicken, those eyes are coming out at every meal going forward.

Dogs are hardwired to pursue food. Their sense of smell is extraordinary, and the moment something appealing hits the air, their brain lights up. Percy smelling Raising Cane's chicken? Her brain's telling her that smells incredible and she'd like some.

The begging habit develops through trial and error. Percy's clearly figured out what works—the tippy taps, the stare, the wiggle, the full production. Whether it actually gets her chicken is between Percy and her human.

But based on the comments demanding justice for Percy, the internet's pretty clear on what should happen.

Percy wanted Canes. The people have spoken. And those tippy taps deserve recognition.

Justice for Percy. 🍗

Some moments stay with you for your entire life and change you forever. For Duke the Great Dane's family, singing "Happy Birthday" to their beloved brown-eyed boy on his last day was that moments.

The TikTok from @yenib9421 shows Duke shrouded in love surrounded by his family just hours before he would cross the rainbow bridge. The caption reads: "His quality of life declined so fast. I can't wait to see my beautiful brown-eyed boy again! đŸ€Ž"

The text overlay addresses something people often say when they don’t know what else to say: "'They can't feel emotions.' But this is my soul dog as we sing happy birthday to him one last time a few hours before he gets put to sleep."

Duke's eyes in that video express everything we need to know. He was present in the moment. He was loved. And he absolutely knew it.

Great Danes Form Deep Bonds With Their Families Despite Shorter Lifespans

Great Danes are known as "gentle giants" for good reason, they are patient, affectionate, and bond deeply with their family. They'd rather be inside with family than anywhere else in the world. They follow you room to room and they lean against your legs with their full weight. They have no idea that they're enormous.

The devestating truth is that their average lifespan runs between six and eight years—significantly shorter than most breeds. Anyone who loves a Great Dane (and other big dogs) knows the time togehter feels both too short and completely unforgettable.

Rest easy, Duke.

English Bulldog Gets Caught Stealing Dog Food and the Evidence Is Priceless

Fri, 04/10/2026 - 10:10am

My dogs are always on the hunt for food. Whether they are begging at the dinner table or searching for scraps on the floor, my Dachshund and my Pug mix throw their morals and manners out the window when it comes to finding any little crumb they uncover. They don't care who the tidbit belongs to or where it came from — any morsel of food is considered fair game.

Norman the Bulldog may have the same mindset regarding meals. His mom walked in on a trail of dog kibble strewn about the floor that was clearly stolen, and the clues all led to him being the culprit.

The evidence was clear-cut and unrefutable. A wide trail of dog food was scattered across the floor. Even the scooping cup was carelessly tossed aside during the kibble caper, with the thief showing no apparent concern over covering their tracks.

A Golden Retriever mix was lying on the floor, minding his own business and just as confused about the robbery as his mom. Making sure to record all the details to solve the hasty heist, the dogs' sitter went over the sequence of events.

"Ok, so there was a bag of dog food right there — I don't know who did it," Norman's dog sitter said, pointing to one corner of the room. The camera panned along the pathway of kibble, which ended at Norman's crate. "I'm guessing it was this guy."

Norman Had No Regrets

A trail of morsels led to Norman, who was chilling in his crate with a huge open bag of dog food. The crafty canine was mid-chew when the sitter called him out on his thievery. Yet the Bulldog barely blinked an eye and didn't seem at all remorseful.

Followers got a kick out of Norman's cavalier attitude and brazen burglary of the family's kibble stash.

"And he’s still munching! No shame," one remarked.

"Not even sorry," another noted.

"Norman wants you to know he still expects dinner to be served at it’s regular time," a follower pointed out.

"I think the other dog set Norman up. He is looking way too chill," someone suggested.

Norman's parents should put the dog food in a locked cabinet from now on to prevent any future thefts.
