Wonderdog recently launched a preventive health platform designed to help pet parents spot potential health issues before obvious symptoms appear. For pet parents, it's a new tool in their arsenal for monitoring their furbaby's health between vet visits.

Why "Fine" Doesn't Tell the Full Story

Dogs can mask pain and illness until it's too late to intervene. They don't do it because they are stubborn; it's a survival instinct they inherited from their pre-domesticated ancestors. In the wilderness, showing weakness could attract predators.

Blookwork, however, doesn't lie. Wonderdog has markers for kidney stress, early cancer, liver strain and immune disruption. They show up long before a dog's behavior changes.

How it works is simple. Wonderdog will send a licensed veterinary technician to your home to draw a blood sample from your dog. With that blood sample, Wonderdog will measure over 40 biomarkers across six body systems. All samples are analyzed by Antech, one of the nation's most trusted veterinary reference laboratories.

As a pet parent, you'll have access to Wonderdog's platform where you can view your dog's personalized health profile. It includes blood test results alongside breed, age, medical records, nutrition, medications, symptoms, activity and health events. You can also log your pet's eating habits, behavioral changes, diet changes, injuries and vet visits.

Currently, the platform operates in Los Angeles and New York City (specifically Manhattan and Brooklyn), with plans to eventually expand to Phoenix and Miami, with more markets to follow. Annual membership starts at $249 for one at-home collection a year or $448 for two at-home blood draws.

How Does This Approach Help Pet Parents

Most people take their dogs to the vet once or twice a year for a routine checkup. However, because of the prohibitive cost of vet visits, some pet parents only take their pet to the vet when an emergency arises.

Because of Wonderdog's at-home blood collection and laboratory analysis, pet parents get a personalized health profile that they can compare over time. Why Are Dogs So Afraid of Fireworks?

For many dog parents, the summer season can be tough, as it's not only the Fourth of July that brings fireworks (though that's the most popular day for it), but really, the entire summer.

So why are so many dogs afraid of fireworks? There are myriad reasons.

First of all, the sound of fireworks is unfamiliar to pooches.

Because dogs can't identify the sound immediately, their sympathetic nervous system gets activated, and then they automatically go into a fight-or-flight response.

Fireworks also give a dog sensory overload with not only sounds, but also flashing lights.

Speaking of sensory overload, with pups having such advanced hearing, the sounds of fireworks can actually be painful to their eardrums.

How To Help a Dog Afraid of Fireworks

As for how to help your dog during fireworks, there are a number of steps you can take to help your beloved pet.

Try using a calm voice and giving them praise and treats. Reassure them that it's going to be OK.

If their anxiety is super bad, where they're panting, trembling, hiding, or whining, you may want to talk to your vet about medication like trazodone.

He definitely saw Three Strange Things that day, and their names are Boon, Star, and Hank. They're 3 Sphynx cat brothers who get to have supervised outside time with their mom, although it's unclear whether she makes them wear sunscreen or not.

They have a beautiful yard. It's green, full of plants. I bet a lot of birds find their way in, which is awesome for the cats! However, that garden wall apparently makes a perfect perch for nosy neighbor cats, too. He isn't sure why none of the cats over the magical wall have any clothes on, but that's not really his business.

The boys probably wish the nosy neighbor cat would mind his business, but they don't let anything get them down. They love to run around their house and outside, and they love car rides, even though the sun passes right through their ears:

Should You Let Your Cat Interact With Outdoor Cats?

A lot of times, outdoor cats will wander to places where cats live. You probably have things they find intriguing, and if you let them outside occasionally, they can smell them. Just because they're there, though, doesn't mean they should be allowed to interact.

Generally, it's best not to let your indoor cat interact with an outdoor cat, especially one you don't know. While the cat might be friendly or even look like they want to play, they could be carrying:

• Diseases.
• Illnesses.
• Toxins on their fur that could be bad for your cat to lick off.
• Fleas or ticks.

Of course, you'll have to use your best judgment: if you know the cat and have spoken to their caretaker, know they have their shots, etc., you might feel comfortable with allowing them to interact. It's up to you! As for these three baldies, though, they're not super into it...

Court has labeled herself as the ultimate goose lover, which is definitely true, but this kitten might be above the geese for her. She found her a few days ago while she was walking her dog, and there were no siblings or mother around, so she took her in. The kitten is definitely at least a few weeks old.

Court was undecided about whether to keep her at first: she has 3 cats and a dog already. However, when the universe drops a chimera kitten into your lap, there's really nothing you can do. Holly is here to stay!

Should You Keep Kittens You Find?

A lot of the time, the expectation is that you find a kitten and you keep them forever. There's even a sweet name for it: the Universal Cat Distribution System. If the UCDS chooses you, you're supposed to keep the cat, according to the internet. And, if you find them in the middle of the night, your brain will tell you to, too.

If you find a kitten, you're welcome to keep it. However, you're welcome to find them a different home or even bring them to a shelter, too: there's no shame in that. Adopting a kitten is a huge responsibility. You should only take them in if:

• You have the funds to care for them.
• You have enough space.
• You have enough time.
• You're positive they're not chipped/don't belong to someone already.

If keeping them will cause you stress financially or decrease the quality of life for other pets in your home, it's best to let them go. That's okay! Holly got lucky. She found a mom and family who can handle her!

The TikTok from @franflight told Falcon's story and how he was brought back to the shelter just two days after his most recent adoption.

"Falcon was adopted for 48 hours and returned back to us today," the on-screen text explained as a NAWS staff member gave Falcon some much-needed affection. "The reason? 'Not listening'."

The video showed the paperwork for Falcon's return, noting the adopter commented, "He's a good cat, I just don't have the patience for him." This wasn't the first time pretty kitty had faced a heartbreaking turn of events.

"Falcon was originally at our shelter in 2022," the story continued. "He was adopted in 2023, and relinquished back to us this year due to no fault of his own. Nothing ever works out in Falcon's favor."

The feline fur baby is positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, making adoption more of a challenge. Black cats also deal with lower adoption rates, adding to Falcon's distressing circumstances.

Americans own more than 56 million dogs, but there's no single breed the whole country agrees on. Not even close.

A new analysis by Voronoi, an infographics app by Visual Capitalist, of more than 1.2 million dog insurance records collected by U.S. News & World Report between 2022 and 2025 mapped the most popular dog breed in every state.

Looking at the results, eight different breeds finish first somewhere in the country. The results reveal as much about regional culture as they do about dogs.

The Breed That Wins, but Not as Dominant as You Would Think

According to the data, the Labrador retriever is the most popular dog in 16 states. The number sounds amazing at first glance, but look closer, and that is less than a third of the country.

The next most popular dog is the Chihuahua, leading in 14 states. American pit bull terriers lead with seven, golden retrievers with five, and German shepherds with four. French bulldogs claim the top spot in two states. Yorkshire Terriers and Shih Tzus each win one.

That's eight breeds across 50 states, which reflects how genuinely different American pet parents are from one another depending on where they live.

There is a reason why labs dominate. Up until a few years ago, the Labrador retriever had topped the American Kennel Club's list of most popular dog breeds for years. However, owning a Lab is not as simple as you think, as they can be stubborn, need a lot of exercise, and shed year-round.

The Geographic Patterns Are Hard to Ignore

If we look at the map of where each dog dominates, we can understand the logic. Look at the map, and labs lead in the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic. Their reputation for adaptability in different climates and family settings plays a role.

Chihuahuas dominate the Southwest, with regions like Texas, Arizona and New Mexico, where the breed has deep cultural roots. But we also have to look at the practical fit. People living in smaller living spaces and warmer climates are perfect for the Chihuahua.

The Surprising State Pick That Stands Out

Among the familiar names on the map, New Jersey's favorite stands out. The Garden State chose the Shih Tzu.

This small companion, praised for its flowing coat, expressive eyes, and affectionate personality, managed to beat some of the most popular dog breeds. Here is a fun fact: the Shih Tzu is No. 21 on the American Kennel Club's list of most popular dog breeds. But in New Jersey, this dog stands out.

For people living in apartments, smaller breeds like the Shih Tzu can be appealing because they often adapt well to indoor living and close companionship.

America's Love for Dogs

America's favorite dogs are not all the same. Some families prefer playful retrievers, others want a tiny companion with a huge personality, and some love working breeds.

The perfect dog has always been less about a national ranking and more about the connection between one animal and one family.

Goose and Chicken walked right up to the door and alerted Mom, Christine, to follow them, and fast. It's not every day you have ducks standing on your front porch, so she did as they suggested and followed them to the backyard flower bush. It's there, they all but told her in human English words that they'd like to drink some fresh water in the shade!

There aren't enough words to describe how incredible this duck pair is because that's such a smart move, especially in this heat. Christine also noted in the comments that they understand quite a bit, paying close attention to body language. Naturally, she did as they asked and got these babes some ice water!

"Better communicators than my husband," one fan joked, while another wrote, "They said: WE WILL TAKE REFRESHMENTS IN THE SHADE!" Another added they "They came straight to the landlord with complaints!"

As if one video isn't proof of duck intelligence, have no fear. Goose and Chicken are more like toddlers than birds. In another post, they refuse to go to bed, sending Mom on an actual "wild Goose chase!"

You can see by the way Goose and Chicken navigate the world around them that ducks are incredibly smart. These birds can recognize human faces, form strong memories, and can even differentiate between colors and shapes.
