51 Years Ago Today, This ’70s War Comedy-Drama Delivered One of TV's Most Controversial Deaths

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 9:02am

Season finales can be a hit or miss among fans, andM*A*S*H premiered its Season 3 finale 51 years ago, which led to an outpouring of complaints from devoted fans. The controversial finale is still highly talked about for the reveal of what happened to one of its beloved characters.

The war comedy-drama was a TV success when it originally aired in 1972 and was created by Larry Gelbart. It was based on the first original spin-off series adapted from the 1970 film of the same name, and the 1968 novel by Richard Hooker. By Season 3 of the series, fans grew attached to its leading characters like Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers as surgeons Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce and "Trapper" John McIntyre.

During the finale of the season on March 18, 1975, M*A*S*H fans said goodbye to Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake (played by McLean Stevenson) in "Abyssinia, Henry."

While characters come and go, how M*A*S*H handled the characters' departure is what got fans heated and going against CBS and 20th Century Fox. Radar O'Reilly (Gary Burghoff) is informed that Colonel Henry has all the requirements to be discharged from the army and head home.

The episode shows Colonel Henry phoning his family about the good news, and an emotional moment where Radar reveals to his comrade that he saw him as a father figure. He gifts Colonel Henry an engraved Rolex as a parting gift, and a party is later thrown in his honor, where the main characters gift him a tailored civilian suit to go home in.

Radar and Colonel Henry have another emotional sendoff, but it's later revealed by a shaken Radar that his plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan and there were no survivors. "Abyssinia, Henry" with a montage of the character throughout the three seasons.

The character's death was reported to have caused over 1,000 letters from fans either in support or hating the finale. Many felt Colonel Henry's death was "cheap," and Reynold's received personal letters from fans vowing to never watch the series again. At first, producers Gene Reynolds and Gelbart wrote handwritten letters explaining their decision that ties into the series's overall reality of war.

The M*A*S*H Season 3 finale also didn't sit well with executives, with CBS and 20th Century Fox openly showing their distaste for the character's sudden death. They even went as far as to air reruns of the episode without the final scene.

Stevenson ultimately left the series to pursue other interests, and his departure was announced before the episode aired. After the finale aired, he even appeared on an episode of Cher, parodying the plane crash that killed his character.

Maude Apatow, 28, Daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, Stuns on the Red Carpet With Her Beautiful Mom

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 9:01am

Maude Apatow, daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, is all grown up, almost 20 years after she appeared in an iconic scene in her dad's comedy, Knocked Up.

Maude, 28, first earned her acting creds in her father's beloved comedic films, like Knocked Up, Funny People, and This Is 40. Her mom, Leslie Mann, often appeared in supporting roles in these films, and it's safe to say that Maude inherited their comedic timing. But in recent years, Maude has pivoted to drama, scoring major acclaim for her role as young playwright Lexi Howard on the HBO series Euphoria opposite Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. Maude has taken her talents a step further, making her directorial debut with the film Poetic License, which also happens to star her stunning mom. She hit the red carpet with her mother at the film's premiere this week at the SXSW Conference And Festival at ZACH Theatre in Austin, Texas. Sporting a sheer black dress, Apatow held hands with her beautiful mom, who wore a white cocktail dress. Now that's one good-looking family!

What Do Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann Say About Maude Apatow's Fame?

Last year, Maude Apatow was honored at the 2025 WIF (Women in Film) Honors with the Max Mara Face of the Future Award, which "recognizes a rising star who embodies style and grace." Speaking to PEOPLE, Mann raved about her daughter's abilities.

"We just follow her lead. We trust her instincts," Mann shared. "She's a smart person, and honestly, we just follow her dreams."

"It's so exciting," Judd added. "I'm speechless."

That's quite a distance from 2007, when the family appeared at the Knocked Up premiere!

Who Did Maude Apatow Play in Knocked Up?

You may remember Maude and her sister Iris from their roles as Sadie and Charlotte in Knocked Up. They stole the show in one of Knocked Up's most iconic scenes, when Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl share that they're expecting a baby at the breakfast table. If you need a laugh, watch Maude in character explaining where babies come from.

'Beyond the Gates' Star Karla Mosley Reveals Why One Recent Scene Left the Crew Saying ‘Wow’

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 9:00am

Karla Mosley is opening up about the unique experience of joining a brand-new soap opera. During a recent appearance on The Gatekeepers Podcast, the Beyond the Gates star discussed the differences between launching a new series, the writing that has impressed her most and a recent scene that left the crew saying ‘wow.’

Mosley appeared on the podcast alongside her co-stars Lauren Buglioli and Daphnée Duplaix, who play Vanessa McBride and Nicole Richardson Dupree on the CBS soap.

Discussing the differences between joining an established soap and launching a new one, Mosley said, “I think it's really nice to have new characters that the fans are also excited to meet.”

The actress also praised the show’s writing team, noting how impressed she has been with the way storylines are developed. “What has surprised me are some of the ways that the writers have brought certain characters back.”

She continued, “The way they'll circle back in a storyline in an unexpected way. The way that they tie up loose ends that you think are just sort of forgotten about. They're very intentional and that has really been so lovely to watch.”

Mosley also explained how the collaborative nature of acting can lead to unexpected moments on set.  “Sometimes the writing is so rich that sometimes I'll have an idea about a way a scene's going to go,” she said. “Then when I'm opposite the person, it just goes in a completely different way, which is, you know, the beauty of acting in general, but particularly when you have such care put into a script I might have questions going into a scene and then sometimes it'll just open up and It just is creating a world that I didn't expect we were going to walk into.”

Mosley also teased a recent scene she filmed with Buglioli that took an emotional turn, “Lauren [Buglioli] and I had some scenes recently and they just became much more emotional than I think either of us expected them to be,” she said. “Even the producers or the director, everyone was kind of like ‘wow.’ So those moments are really exciting as an actor.”

Why Kate Middleton Just Swapped Her Signature Palette for This Rare Color Choice

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:38am

The Princess of Wales has a predictable wardrobe for a reason: it works. Usually, that means a rotation of primary blues, greens, white, and the occasional red. But for the start of the Nigerian state visit on Wednesday, Kate Middleton went in a direction she almost never takes: slate gray.

Greeting Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the Fairmont Hotel Windsor, the Princess skipped her usual vibrant colors for a structured, sharp-shouldered coatdress in a muted gray. While the color itself is a rarity for her, the name on the label is the real story.

The dress and matching fascinator are the work of British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because King Charles made a point of sitting front-row at Coker’s Fall-Winter 2026 show during London Fashion Week just last month.

Coker is an alum of the King’s Trust, and the monarch’s support for her work in February was a major moment for the designer. By choosing Coker for the first Nigerian state visit since 1989, Kate showed her support for the king. It’s also a bit of sartorial coordination that allows the royals to champion British-Nigerian talent without saying a word.

Photo by YUI MOK on Getty Images

The fresh look in an unexpected color signals how the royal workload is being split these days. While the King and Queen handled the formal Guard of Honor at Windsor Castle, it was PrinceWilliam and Kate who were sent to the hotel for the crucial first face-to-face meeting with the President.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been on a diplomatic marathon lately, anchoring state visits from France, Germany, and the U.S. over the last year. But the day is only half over. Later tonight, the King and Queen will host a state banquet at Windsor Castle. While the Tolu Coker dress handled the morning’s diplomatic work, the evening usually belongs to the royal vault. After a morning spent in a rare, muted color, all eyes are on which piece of historical jewelry the Princess will choose to close out the first state visit of the year.

21 Years Ago Today, This Late Actress Starred in a Disney Coming-of-Age Hit

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:32am

Twenty-one years ago today, the late Michelle Trachtenberg took center stage in a Disney coming-of-age film that would go on to become a nostalgic favorite for a generation.

Released in 2005, Ice Princess followed Trachtenberg as Casey Carlyle, a high-achieving student who discovers a passion for figure skating and must choose between the life she planned and the dream she didn’t see coming.

At the time, Trachtenberg was already a familiar face. She first rose to fame as a child star in Harriet the Spy before becoming widely known as Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Ice Princess marked a defining moment in her transition into teen and young adult roles.

In the years that followed, Trachtenberg continued to build a varied career, appearing in films like EuroTrip and taking on one of her most memorable roles as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl—a performance that introduced her to a new generation of fans.

Tragically, Trachtenberg died in 2025 at just 39 years old as a result of diabetes mellitus complications. In the year since, fans and former co-stars have continued to celebrate her talent, versatility, and unmistakable screen presence.

"I’m not sure how it’s been a year," actress Sarah Michelle Gellar captioned an Instagram post on the anniversary of Trachtenberg's unexpected death.

"I’m one of the lucky ones who has over 30 years of memories with you."

She leaves behind a body of work that spanned decades and genres, including the fan-favorite Ice Princess. Even if it wasn't a big hit for Disney at the time, the movie has endured as a comfort watch, especially for those who grew up with its message about taking risks and believing in yourself.

More than two decades later, the film feels like a snapshot of a specific Disney era, and a reminder of the actress at its center, whose performances continue to resonate.

The ’90s Star That Could Have Won Over a ‘Bachelorette’ Wife

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:28am

Even married life can’t erase a celebrity crush. Bachelorette Season 1 star Trista Sutter has one that her husband, Ryan, says might’ve shaken things up.

In a new interview with PEOPLE Magazine, the couple sat down to discuss their successful 22-year marriage. The couple discussed their whirlwind courtship and marriage, and the secrets that keep them close when so many other reality show relationships fizzled.

“I did see us lasting forever, or at least I hoped," Trista revealed. She said that Ryan stood out because he "wrote me poetry. He was a professional athlete, and I love athleticism."

She added, "His eyes. He made me laugh. He made me feel safe. It just felt right. We had so much chemistry, and I could see him fitting into my life and him fitting into mine and us creating a life of our own together."

Ryan appeared to feel the same way towards Trista. He told PEOPLE, "I always said I'd marry her the day she chose me."

However, that doesn't mean that after more than two decades together and two children, Maxwell and Blakesley Sutter, Trista doesn't still keep her husband on his toes. He revealed that there is one man whom he believes could still win over his wife, a '90s film superstar.

Ryan revealed, "I always hesitate to say that, because Brad Pitt could write her a letter tomorrow saying, 'I’ve always liked you.' And she could be like, 'Peace out.'”

The couple acknowledges that their relationship isn’t always smooth sailing, but they remain deeply committed to each other and their family. Through the ups and downs, Ryan and Trista say their love and partnership have only grown stronger over the years.

"We’re like every married couple. We have the things that drive each other crazy, but it’s silly stuff," Trista revealed. "We try not to take life so seriously."

"We have fun, laugh, and joke around a lot. We’re very sarcastic. We also believe in setting yourself up for success, in the value of education, and putting in effort and working hard, and being grateful for what you have."

The new season of The Bachelorette begins March 22, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Episodes will stream the next day on Hulu. It stars Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star, Taylor Frankie Paul.

Here’s How Many Minutes You Need To Walk per Day To Lose Weight Over 60

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:25am

In your younger years, you might have been drawn to workouts that required an intense challenge. Training for races, military-inspired boot camps, and quick-paced team sports all test both the body and mind. Maybe you would still like to do those types of activities, but now they leave you sore for days and your body aching.

Exercising should make you feel good, not leave you in pain for days afterward. To avoid sore joints or extreme fatigue, you might have had to change the way you exercise as you’ve aged, and that can make maintaining a healthy weight challenging.

“Weight gain is often driven by muscle loss due to injuries or lifestyle shifts that change how we train and how much we move,” says Cori Lefkowith, NASM-CPT, a certified personal trainer, owner of Redefining Strength and author of The STRONG System: Transform Your Mindset and Build Your Best Body At Any Age. “When strength training intensity decreases, muscle mass declines with it and daily calorie burn drops. Age plays a role, but changes in our training intensity and overall movement have a greater impact.”

Related: This Is the #1 Surprising Thing That Helps With Weight Loss After Age 50, According to a Geriatrician

On top of that, Lefkowith explains that metabolism changes slightly with age, which can lead to building muscle less efficiently. This, she says, can make it harder to lose fat.

Mallory Fox, NASM-CPT, a certified personal trainer and NASM master trainer, says that life circumstances can make exercise less likely for many people in their 60s and older. Experiencing a chronic illness, loss of a loved one or other changes can make having the desire and ability to exercise more challenging.

One form of exercise that both trainers say can be especially beneficial for people 60 and older who want to lose weight is walking. But how much do you need to walk for it to make a difference?

General Tips for Losing Weight After 60

When it comes to losing weight after 60, Leftkowith’s advice boils down to three words: Protect your muscle. Muscle loss starts as early as 30, but it takes a sharp nosedive after 60, so it’s important to counteract that. According to scientific research, this loss in muscle is a fundamental contributor of disability in people over 60.

“Strength training is essential for maintaining metabolic health and lean mass, which helps you burn more calories even outside the gym. Pair it with adequate protein and a small calorie deficit for sustainable fat loss results,” Leftkowith says. Fox echoes this, recommending strength training at least two days a week if you’re 60 or older.

Related: The Surprising Food That Can Lead To Significant Weight Loss in Just 4 Weeks

While strength training is important for protecting against muscle loss, walking can help with supporting cardiovascular health and contribute to weight loss by increasing calorie loss. And if you’re currently not doing any form of exercise, both trainers say it’s the perfect place to start.

“Walking is ideal for inactive older adults because it is low-impact, joint-friendly, requires no equipment and has numerous health benefits. Even short, consistent walks can stimulate calorie burn and build endurance safely. It’s also very easy to scale movement up, starting with walking from one room to another, to walking around the block, to walking longer distances,” Fox says.

Leftkowith adds to this, saying that even 10 to 15 minutes of walking is enough to improve circulation, support blood sugar regulation and begin rebuilding basic strength and endurance. “It also creates momentum and lays the foundation for adding strength training later on,” she says.

How Many Minutes per Day To Walk if You Are Over 60 and Want To Lose Weight

If you are 60 or older and want to lose weight by walking, Leftkowith recommends gradually working your way up to 6,000 to 8,000 steps a day, which typically takes between 60 and 80 minutes, plus includes normal daily movement (like walking around the house as you do chores or at the grocery store).

If 6,000 steps feels too challenging for you right now, Leftkowith recommends starting by committing to taking a 10-minute walk after each meal. “Even an extra 1,000 steps per day can make a meaningful difference,” she says.

To support your overall health, Fox says that the American Heart Association’s guidelines of getting 150 minutes of cardio-based exercise a week (roughly 30 minutes, five days a week), is great advice to follow. But weight loss, she recommends walking for at least 300 minutes a week (an hour five days a week or roughly 45 minutes every day).

“Every bit of movement counts. Any activity is better than none, and benefits increase with more consistency. Walking—paired with small dietary changes—remains one of the most powerful tools for healthy aging,” Fox says.

Leftkowith adds to this, emphasizing that it’s never too late to start. “Start with small, consistent habits and you’ll be amazed at how much your energy, mobility and quality of life can improve,” she says. Those are some great words to live by!

I Just Got a Sam's Club Membership—These Are the 20 Best Deals I Got on My First Trip

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:15am

I finally took the plunge. I've become a wholesale club store member. I'm now that mom who buys Goldfish crackers by the case and fruit snacks in a box bigger than my child. What took me so long? To be honest, now that I'm here, I can't really come up with a good reason, so let's just be happy I joined the party.

And although you might think of a certain store when I say "wholesale club" (we see you, Costco), I went with Sam's Club. Why? In all honesty, I was lured in by a great deal on a 4-pound bag of gummy bears (more on that later) and 50 percent off the membership fee.

Planning a school party? They can help with kids' snacks and treats! Busy evenings have you stressing at dinner time? Sam's has got you covered! Need lots of variety for those packed school lunches every day? You can give the kids so many choices!

What Is Sam's Club?

Before we grab the shopping cart, let's begin with a little history. Sam's Club is a membership warehouse club founded by Sam Walton in 1983, twenty-one years after he founded Walmart. There are nearly 600 clubs across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Much like other warehouse stores, Sam's Club sells bulk items at a good deal and has a wide array of groceries and tons of other things, like housewares, gas and prescriptions.

Oh, and don't forget about the free samples! The day we went, we got to try frozen breakfast sandwiches, fresh green grapes, cucumber water and animal crackers. My boys were thrilled!

What Is the Sam's Club Store Brand?

An annual Sam's Club membership costs $50, which includes one primary cardholder plus a complimentary card for another member of your household. But be on the lookout for membership deals. Mine was 50 percent off, so I only paid $25 for the year! Sam's Club basic membership includes some perks, like fuel savings and free curbside pickup, but there is also a $110 Sam's Club Plus option, which offers those perks plus more, including free shipping, early shopping hours and pharmacy and optical savings.

20 Best Things to Buy at Sam's Club for a New Member

I will fully admit, the first time I walked into Sam's, I had a couple of specific items on my list. Little did I know I would fill my cart and find so many other things I wanted to take home—and I'm definitely coming back for more! Here are my top 20 finds on my first Sam's Club shopping trip.

1. Member's Mark Olive Oil, $29.98 for 3 Liters Member's Mark Olive Oil

Krista Marshall

I wanted to begin with a Member's Mark product. Make a mental note of the logo so you can look for it throughout the store. I couldn't believe this huge jug of pure olive oil was under thirty bucks. I see lots of marinades and salad dressings in my future!

2. Kraft Mac & Cheese, $14.96 for 18 Boxes Kraft Mac & Cheese

Krista Marshall

This classic childhood favorite never gets old. With all the homemade macaroni and cheese recipes I have, sometimes you just need the blue box. Even if you can find single boxes on sale for $1 each, this is still a better deal! Plus, your kids will think they won the mom (or dad) lottery!

3. Amylu Chicken Burgers, $13.98 for 10-Count Amylu Chicken Burgers

Krista Marshall

These were recommended by a friend who has been a Sam's Club shopper for years. The flavors they have available change from time to time; I love the caramelized onion and bacon pack. If that's not in stock, they usually have the Parmesan and mozzarella cheese pack. I bet they'll taste great after a few minutes on the grill, and I bet you could air fry them too!

4. Apple & Eve Juice Boxes, $11.48 for 36 Boxes Apple & Eve Juice Boxes

Krista Marshall

It's back-to-school time in our house and that means packing lunchboxes every day for the next 180 days! I couldn't get these in the cart fast enough. The price is fantastic, of course, but I also love a variety pack and the fact that it's 100 percent juice with no sugar added.

5. Sensible Portions Veggie Puffs, $13.98 for 30 Individual Bags Sensible Portions Veggie Puffs

Krista Marshall

Move over veggie straws, puffs are coming through! This variety pack includes tasty flavors like sour cream and onion, white cheddar and barbecue. They have 30 percent less fat than other puffed snacks and are baked instead of fried.

6. Black Forest Gummy Bears, $11.76 for 4 Pounds Black Forest Gummy Bears

Krista Marshall

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. This bag of gummy bears is what led me to the Sam's Club membership in the first place. I was planning my first room mom treats of the year, needed a big bag of gummies, found this online—and the rest is history. But actually, do you really need a reason to have a huge bag of gummy bears in the pantry?

7. Chex Mix, $16.24 for 42 Single-Serving Bags Chex Mix

Krista Marshall

Who doesn't love Chex Mix? These individual bags are great for the lunchbox, on-the-go snacking or any kids' party so little hands aren't sharing a community bowl!

8. Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix, $8.48 for 4 Pouches Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix

Krista Marshall

I did a double-take when I saw this box. A one-pouch box is almost four dollars in other stores, so this is a super deal! Although I do have a terrific copycat recipe for these cheesy, garlicky biscuits, sometimes this mama just needs a little help from the store on an extra busy night.

9. Fresh Asparagus, $5.82 for 2 Pounds Fresh Asparagus

Krista Marshall

I was super impressed by Sam's fresh produce "cold room", a temperature-controlled area to help the produce and other perishables stay fresh. This asparagus caught my eye because of the thinner stalks that are always crisp but tender. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper and roast in a 400°F oven for a tasty, simple side dish.

10. Mott's Fruit Snacks, $11.98 for 90 Pouches Mott's Fruit Snacks

Krista Marshall

These were actually on an "instant savings" special when I shopped, down from the original price of $12.12. Even then, it is a fantastic deal for the amount. Kids love fruit snacks, so it's great to have these in the house.

11. Frigo Cheeseheads String Cheese, $10.38 for 48-Count Frigo Cheeseheads String Cheese

Krista Marshall

A lunchbox staple in our house, string cheese is one of those things I always have in the fridge. Afraid you won't use this big package? Remember homemade mozzarella sticks are great for movie night too!

12. Member's Mark Yeast Dinner Rolls, $3.98 for 24-Count Member's Mark Yeast Dinner Rolls

Krista Marshall

Sam's has quite an extensive bakery. Pro tip: Don't walk through it when you're hungry like I did because you'll be in trouble. (The huge box of cinnamon rolls I went home with is coming later!) The minute I saw these, I thought about holiday entertaining. I'm not a baker, but I would heat these up and serve them with some soft butter for a total hostess win!

13. Fresh Brussels Sprouts, $4.68 for 2 Pounds Fresh Brussels Sprouts

Krista Marshall

Brussels sprouts are one of those fresh veggies I'll buy year-round if I see them, so I was happy to know that I could find them at Sam's Club. If this specific pack isn't available, they should have a 2-pound organic pack for less than a dollar more. Think you don't like Brussels sprouts? May I suggest them pan-roasted with bacon or raw in a crunchy slaw?

14. Member's Mark Snow Crab Legs, $12.98/Pound Member's Mark Snow Crab Legs

Krista Marshall

If you are a seafood fan, Sam's selection will blow you away. There are so many choices, including salmon, shrimp and these beautiful snow crab legs that are perfect for a date night in.

15. Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers, $15.82 for 45 Packs Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers

Krista Marshall

Attention all parents, everywhere. Tired of opening those big packages of Goldfish crackers only to have them go stale in the pantry? Individual packs are the answer to our lunchbox and snack success. This variety pack comes with both cheddar and my son's favorite, rainbow, so these will be a big hit in our house.

17. Member's Mark Chicken Taco Kit, $5.48/Pound Member's Mark Chicken Taco Kit

CDC Issues Travel Advisories for Multiple Countries Over 1940s Disease That’s on the Rise

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:14am

It may sound like a disease from another era but polio is making a troubling comeback, and it’s now impacting travel plans around the world.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 2 travel advisory for more than 30 countries, warning travelers to “practice enhanced precautions” due to the spread of poliovirus.

And here’s the surprising part: some of the affected destinations include popular European countries like Poland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, alongside regions in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

View this post on Instagram What Area Are Most Impacted in 2026

This advisory comes at a time when international travel is booming again, particularly heading into spring and summer.

Destinations affected by the advisory include per the CDC:

  • Afghanistan
  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Benin
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cameroon
  • Central African Republic
  • Chad
  • Côte d'Ivoire
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Djibouti
  • Ethiopia
  • Gaza
  • Germany
  • Guinea
  • Israel
  • Laos
  • Namibia
  • Niger
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Poland
  • Senegal
  • Somalia
  • South Sudan
  • Sudan
  • Tanzania
  • United Kingdom
  • Yemensia

For travelers, that doesn’t mean canceling trips but it does mean being more proactive about health precautions.

Unlike COVID-19, polio doesn’t dominate headlines, but it carries serious risks. In its most severe form, it can lead to permanent paralysis.

But “nearly” is the key word.

A Disease We Thought Was Gone

The turning point came in the mid-1950s with the introduction of the polio vaccine, one of the most successful public health interventions in history. Thanks to widespread vaccination campaigns, polio was nearly eradicated globally by the late 20th century.

During the 1940s and 1950s, polio outbreaks were among the most feared public health crises in the United States and around the world. At its peak, tens of thousands of children were paralyzed each year, and entire communities shut down pools, schools, and public gatherings to avoid infection.

Polio, short for poliomyelitis, is a highly contagious virus that attacks the nervous system. In severe cases, it can cause paralysis or even death.

Why Polio Is Rising Again

Despite decades of progress, polio has never been completely eliminated. Today, it remains endemic in a small number of countries, and outbreaks continue to appear elsewhere due to gaps in vaccination coverage.

Recent data shows:

Health experts point to several factors behind the resurgence:

  • Declining vaccination rates in some areas
  • Global travel spreading the virus across borders
  • Disruptions to healthcare systems in recent years

As a result, the CDC’s latest advisory reflects a growing concern: polio is no longer just a localized issue, it’s a global one again.

What Travelers Need to Know

The CDC’s guidance is clear: vaccination is your best protection.

Before traveling internationally, especially to countries on the advisory list, travelers should:

  • Be fully vaccinated against polio
  • Consider a one-time booster shot if already vaccinated
  • Practice good hygiene, including handwashing and safe food practices

Polio spreads primarily through contaminated food, water, or contact with infected individuals, making it easy to contract in areas with poor sanitation.

What makes it especially dangerous is that many infected people show no symptoms, yet can still spread the virus to others.

A Reminder From the Past

The resurgence of polio is a powerful reminder of how quickly progress can reverse. Polio may feel like a disease from the past, but in 2026, it’s once again part of the global travel conversation. With the CDC issuing advisories for more than 30 countries, travelers should take the warning seriously, but not fearfully. The risk is manageable with the right precautions.

If you’re planning an international trip this year, the takeaway is simple: Check your vaccinations, stay informed, and travel smart.

Meet the Star-Studded 'White Lotus' Season 4 Cast — From Helena Bonham Carter to Kumail Nanjiani

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:08am

The guest list is getting longer! TV fans have been waiting with bated breath to see which actors will officially be checking in for The White Lotus season 4, the upcoming installment of HBO's hit dark-comedy anthology, which is set to start shooting in late April 2026. And there's good reason for all of that cast-list anticipation — the show is routinely a star-studded affair, with the third season alone featuring the likes of Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood, Jason Isaacs, Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell, among others.

Story-wise, creator Mike White has kept details about the Emmy-winning drama's fourth season tight-lipped, though we do know where it will be filming (hint: bonjour!) as well as many of the stars who we'll be seeing onscreen in the new episodes. Here's a look at The White Lotusseason 4 cast, thus far.

Chris Messina

In January 2026, HBO announced that Chris Messina — best-known to television fans for his six-season run as Danny Castellano in the FOX rom-com The Mindy Project, as well as roles in The Newsroom, Sharp Objects, The Sinner and Based on a True Story — will be starring in The White Lotus season 4.

Helena Bonham Carter

Messina will be joined in the France-set fourth season by the iconic Helena Bonham Carter. The eccentric English actress is known for her Oscar-nominated turns in The Wings of the Dove and The King's Speech as well as her franchise work as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films and her frequent collaborations with filmmaker Tim Burton (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland, among others).

Marissa Long

A newcomer with only two short film credits on her IMDb page, Marissa Long is understandably ecstatic about joining the cast of The White Lotus, as she relayed in a January Instagram post. "God is so good — I am in the middle of so many feelings and I’m unbelievably honored to be joining this with such incredible people...Thank you Mike White!!!!!!!!!! I’m speechless and cannot wait for this journey, feeling deeply blessed."

Sandra Bernhard

From Jennifer Coolidge to Parker Posey, it's not The White Lotus without a legendary comedienne in the mix and this season, that's looking to be Sandra Bernhard (Severance, Marty Supreme), who was announced as part of the cast in February. During a red-carpet interview with E! News at this month's Actor Awards, the Roseanne alum revealed that she had begged buddy Mike White to write a star-turning role for her for 25 years. "He loves me. We love each other. And he finally said, ‘This is it. This is the season.’"

Vincent Cassel

Given that season four will take place in France, it's only fitting for the show to feature some French star power: Say enchanté to Vincent Cassel, the César Award-winning actor behind 2008's Mesrine as well as fellow acclaimed flicks like La Haine, Read My Lips, Mon Roi,It's Only the End of the World and The Specials.

Caleb Jonte Edwards

Unlike industry vets like Vincent Cassel and Helena Bonham Carter, their soon-to-be White Lotus co-star Caleb Jonte Edwards is a virtual unknown — his biggest acting credit to date is a guest role on the Australian crime drama Black Snow

Steve Coogan

Six-time BAFTA winner Steve Coogan was added to the growing White Lotus cast this January. The 60-year-old English performer is known for his recurring TV character Alan Patridge (I'm Alan Partridge; Knowing Me, Knowing You) as well as movies like Night at the Museum, Stan & Ollieand Philomena, the latter of which earned Coogan two Oscar nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.

Alexander Ludwig

Canadian actor-slash-country musician Alexander Ludwig will also appear on the popular HBO program. The Vancouver native has been acting since he was a child, with early roles in The Seeker: The Dark Is RisingRace to Witch Mountain and The Hungers Games. On the small screen, he's known for playing the legendary Viking Björn Ironside in the History Channel series Vikings and pro wrestler Ace Spade in the Starz drama series Heels.

AJ Michalka

Pop-music fans know recent White Lotus addition AJ Michalka as one-half of the sister act Aly & AJ, though the blonde beauty has also starred in several TV shows, including the ABCsitcomThe Goldbergs and its spinoff Schooled, as well as the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Kumail Nanjiani

On March 17, HBO announced yet another batch of buzzy White Lotus guests, including actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani. The Pakistani-American star already had a successful career in stand-up comedy and television (Franklin & Bash, SiliconValley) but he became a household name for his Oscar-nominated rom-com The Big Sick as well as his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kingo.

Max Greenfield

Nanjiani will be joined by fellow TV funnyman Max Greenfield, beloved by sitcom fans for his Emmy-nominated performance as Schmidt in the FOX comedy New Girl. Aside from The White Lotus season 4, Greenfield's most recent credits include playing Dave Johnson in the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood and Lev Levenson in the Netflix sports comedy Running Point.

Charlie Hall

Acting should come naturally to cast newcomer Charlie Hall: His parents are Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall, making him — like Sam Nivola andPatrick Schwarzenegger before him — the token nepo baby of The White Lotus season 4.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. vet Chloe Bennet has signed on for the fourth season of The White Lotus

Chloe Bennet

The March casting announcement also included actress-singer Chloe Bennet, who previously starred as Daisy Johnson-slash-Quake in the ABC superhero drama series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from 2013 to 2020. The 33-year-old actress reposted the news onto her Instagram, writing simply: "Insane."

Jarrad Paul

Actor-filmmaker Jarrad Paul will join Chloe and co. in the new White Lotus cast. The 49-year-old Miami native co-created series like the adult animated sitcom Allen Gregory, the FOX comedy The Grinder and the Netflix miniseries Huge in France.

Dylan Ennis

In February, British-French actor Dylan Ennis was added to the ensemble. According to Deadline, the recent LAMDA grad is believed to be playing a French local in season four, though it's unknown if his character will be working as a White Lotus staffer.

The Beauty actress Ari Graynor will next appear in The White Lotus season 4

Ari Graynor

Boston-born actress Ari Graynor is also joining The White Lotus cast. The 42-year-old brunette has had a busy few years on the small screen, with roles in the FX miniseries Mrs. America, the Apple TV thriller Surface, the Netflix anthology Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and, most recently, the Ryan Murphy body-horror series The Beauty.

Corentin Fila

Parisian actor Corentin Fila will join the French contingency of The White Lotus season 4, as announced in early March. His credits include the 2018 film Being 17, for which he received a César nomination, as well as the Amazon Prime Video series Escort Boys.

Nadia Tereszkiewicz

And rounding out the cast is French-Finnish actress Nadia Tereszkiewicz, who was announced alongside Vincent Cassel and Corentin Fila. It is assumed that the 29-year-old performer — who has previously starred in films like Forever Young, Rosalie, Red Island and Heads or Tails? — will be playing a French local in the upcoming season.

'Stranger Things' Star Sadie Sink Shares New 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Trailer

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:05am

Stranger Thingsstar Sadie Sink, who played Max Mayfield on the popular Netflix show, has just shared the new Spider-Man: Brand New Daytrailer on her Instagram account. Brand New Day, which will hit theaters on July 31, is the newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Spider-Man movies, which currently comprise Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In a post that contained no caption or other commentary from the actress, Sink shared the new trailer in full, and already, the post is flooded with comments speculating about Sink's character in the upcoming movie.

View this post on Instagram

Sink, who does not appear in the trailer, is confirmed to be in Brand New Day, but her character continues to be a mystery. Many have guessed that Sink could be playing Jean Gray or Gwen Stacy, but that is entirely speculation at present—and the trailer didn't provide any hints about what her role in this story will be.

However, the trailer did offer significantly more insight into what this movie will entail for Peter Parker (Tom Holland). The most recent update on Peter came in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which everyone's memories had to be wiped so that they never knew he existed, including his best friend, Ned (Jacob Batalon), and his girlfriend, MJ (Zendaya).

The new trailer begins with Peter watching a video of Ned and MJ together, suggesting that he is still keeping his distance, devastated to have lost them. That seems to be changing as well, though, as the end of the trailer shows Peter introducing himself to MJ as a neighbor (to which she hilariously responds, "Friendly neighbor").

The trailer also sees the return of the MCU's Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)—although he, like everyone else, has no memory of Peter Parker/Spider-Man—and suggests that Peter is facing a number of new obstacles due to genetic mutations.

Did Elisabeth Moss Have a Baby? Everything We Know About Her Family Life

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 8:00am

In January 2024, Elisabeth Moss announced that she was expecting her first child. Moss, who’s been through some memorable fictional pregnancies during her prestigious TV career on Mad Menand The Handmaid’s Tale, confirmed the news during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

After Moss emerged with a visible bump, Kimmel asked, "Are you pregnant or just an incredibly committed method actor?” Moss responded: “A little bit of both.” Asked how she was feeling, Moss said “not bad,” and that the pregnancy has “been going really well.”

Later in the interview, Moss joked that she "can't wait" to start using her child as an excuse to get out of doing things, which is relatable. Here's a rundown of what else we know about the Shell star's pregnancy and the baby's arrival, the identity of the father of her baby, and more.

Did Elisabeth Moss have a baby?

Yes. Since she was visibly pregnant in January 2024, when she publicly announced that she was expecting her first child, the laws of nature indicate she gave birth sometime later that year.

The 43-year-old actress had previously spoken about her desire to start a family but also admitted she was unsure what that would look like for her.

“I do want to be a mother,” Moss told Marie Claire UK in 2018. “I like the idea of passing on what my mother passed on to me.” Moss is close with her mom, Linda, and even brought her as her date to the 2017 Golden Globes.

“[Motherhood] is not for everybody,” Moss continued, “and I didn’t know if it was going to be for me, but lately, I think it is. I have no idea how I want to do it though, or what the plan is.” She also explained that part of the reason she had a hard time imagining becoming a mom was that she had so little time for dating. “I'm very focused on my work, so it’s difficult to find the time to give yourself to somebody.”

Is Elisabeth Moss married now?

As of 2026, Elisabeth Moss is not married and is not publicly in a relationship.

Who did Elisabeth Moss have a baby with?

Elisabeth Moss hasn’t revealed who the father of her baby is. She is choosing to keep that personal information to herself, much like her Mad Men co-star January Jones, who gave birth to a son named Xander in 2011 and has never discussed the father’s identity.

When did Elisabeth Moss have a baby?

Moss admitted to being pregnant in January 2024 and had her baby later that year.

How long were Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen married?

Elizabeth Moss and Fred Armisen met in the fall of 2008 on the set of Saturday Night Live. At the time, Armisen had been a cast member for six years, while Elisabeth Moss was making an appearance in a skit for an episode hosted by her Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm. The couple had a whirlwind romance and were engaged just four months later in January 2009. They tied the knot in October 2009—but the marriage lasted less than a year.

"Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young," Moss told Vulture. "It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible. At the same time, it turned out for the best. I'm glad that I'm not there. I'm glad that it didn't happen when I was 50. I'm glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. That's probably not going to happen again."

Why did Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen get divorced?

Moss filed for divorce from Armisen in September of 2010, citing “irreconcilable differences” in the California court documents. She listed the couple’s separation date as June 26, eight months after their wedding.

At the time, an anonymous source told People that “conflicting work schedules and long-distance relationship” had led to the split, but once Moss opened up about how “traumatic and awful and horrible” the marriage had been, that story fell apart.

Two years after the divorce, Moss gave a damning interview to Page Six (via CBS News) about Armisen. “One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, 'He's so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.’ To me, that sums it up.”

For his part, Armisen made no attempt to defend himself. “I think I was a terrible husband, I think I’m a terrible boyfriend,” he told Howard Stern (via Huffington Post), who asked him to respond to Moss’s comments. "I want it all...fast," he explained. “I want to be married, I want to live together...and then somewhere around a year or two years, I get freaked out. I freak out emotionally and then I actually feel like, 'Oh my God, who’s this stranger in my house?'"

Did Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen have kids?

Moss and Armisen were married for less than a year and didn't have any children together. During her interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she confirmed that her 2024 pregnancy was her first.

Who is Elisabeth Moss dating now?

Moss hasn’t publicly disclosed whether she’s dating anyone at the moment. Since the rollercoaster of her marriage to Armisen, she’s "learned" not to discuss her personal life with the press.

In 2019, she told Marie Claire“I learned you just don’t talk about it. Who really gives a sh-t whether or not I’m dating anyone? I hate to put that importance on it. I cringe a little.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Star Ken Jennings Stumped by Unexpected Question

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 7:52am

Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings usually knows it all, but one question left him momentarily speechless.

The game show host was featured on the show's Instagram page, where he was posed a question that he had a difficult time answering. Jennings, who is the overall Jeopardy! Champion paused before his thoughtful answer.

Jennings was asked off-camera, "If you were a Muppet, which Muppet would you be?” The surprised host laughed before providing his answer.

“I’d probably have to be, because of my job, I’d have to be a nerdy Muppet. I’m your Bunsen Honeydew, your Beaker," he quipped.

Fans were quick to respond to Jennings' assessment in the post's comments section. They flooded it with reactions ranging from laughter to surprise, sharing their own guesses.

"Oh he’s 10000% Scooter with a sprinkle of Bunson Honeydew," wrote one follower. A second wrote, "Guy Smiley is RIGHT THERE!!"

A third viewer assessed, "His answers make sense, but I personally think he has some Kermit the Frog energy, too. Ken and Kermit are both hosts who truly care about the show and everyone involved in the production of it, no matter how chaotic things get."

"Hearing Ken Jennings being asked what it was like to be a Muppet on the Alex Trebek Stage was NOT on my Jeopardy! bingo card, not gonna lie. Total shocker," quipped a fourth Instagram user.

Ken Jennings has hosted Jeopardy! since 2020, following the death of long-time host Alex Trebek. Over the years, he’s become known not just for his encyclopedic knowledge, but for his quick wit and relatable charm.

Jesse Palmer's Journey From NFL Quarterback to 'The Bachelor' Host (Exclusive)

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 7:30am

You have to understand that Jesse Palmer had spent years in NFL locker rooms teeming with media. He had done his share of press conferences. So when the then-New York Giants quarterback started his run onThe Bachelorway back in 2004, he was fully prepared to see behind-the-scenes cameras.

Every other aspect of production, however, came as a shock.

“It was really eye-opening,” he tells Parade in his exclusive cover story interview. “I was so naïve to the size of the show and how big it was going to be. I remember being fascinated by how many people were involved. I thought it would be six people and a producer somewhere in the room. I was in awe on that first day.”

Then there was The Bachelor Mansion. Located in Malibu, Palmer recalls that it featured a black-and-white exterior and was fairly unimpressive. It’s since been torn down. “It was nowhere near as nice as the one we currently have,” he adds. “And now that mansion is even nicer.”

'She’s An Absolute Wild Card': Jesse Palmer on Taylor Frankie Paul’s Bachelorette (6:37)

That’s because the home base for all the tantalizing romance and drama recently received a major facelift. Palmer hosts Bachelor Mansion Takeover (now airing on HGTV and streaming on HBO Max), in which 12 former contestants with interior design and construction backgrounds transform the iconic abode—including the bunk rooms, the rose room and the mixer room—for a chance to win a $100,000 prize. “The renovation was long overdue,” he says of the Malibu space, which was first used back in 2007. “And it’s really cool to see these cast members do the work themselves and leave their imprint on the mansion.”

Viewers will see the results in the new season of The Bachelorette, which premieres March 22 on ABC (and streaming on Hulu). This time, Taylor Frankie Paul from the hit reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wivesis the one handing out the roses—making her the first bachelorette to be plucked from outside of the franchise. And while Palmer knows that dubbing it “the most dramatic season ever” is a clichéd sell at this point, he sincerely means it: “People who have watched the show for years do expect a season to go a certain way. But Taylor breaks the format so many times.”

Palmer, 47, speaks from years of experience. After giving his final rose to Jessica Bowlin (the two split one month after the finale aired), the Toronto native honed his smooth on-air skills as a football commentator on ESPN and contributor to Good Morning America. He was tapped to take over The Bachelor duties in 2021. “I had absolutely no idea being on The Bachelor would lead to this,” he says. “It took 17 years for it to come full circle.” He has since presided over The Bachelor, The Golden Bachelor, The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise.

As for his own romantic life? Palmer scored there, too. He’s been married to model and photographer Emely Fardo since 2020. They welcomed their first child, daughter Ella Reine, in January 2024.

Zooming in from his family’s home in Florida, Palmer gets real with Parade.

HGTV

Parade: We’ll start with Bachelor Mansion Takeover. Was it surreal to film in the house under those circumstances?

Jesse Palmer: It was a really cool change of pace. It pulled the curtain back for me in a lot of ways too. I've been hosting the franchise now for a little over five years, and there were spaces that I didn't even know existed—and maybe now some of these spaces are going to be used and seen on TV. So it was actually educational for me as the host because I got to see the bare bones of it. And it was fun to watch a lot of familiar faces do the work and come up with some incredible results.

Obvious follow-up: Was there any romance during production?

I mean, it's the Bachelor Mansion—anytime you get even close to that building, things just tend to happen. And one of the interesting things about the show is there is a lot of drama on this show because some of the cast members actually have history [such as Brendan Morais, Noah Erb and Tammy Ly, who all appeared on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7]. That potentially spills over into this show.

Are you a handy guy? Could you paint the wall in the room in your Zoom background?

Oh, I could do that. Give me a roller and a ladder. My back is OK. It still works. And I do have a toolbox that I use from time to time! But I have to say that I’m nowhere near as handy as our cast. I was thoroughly impressed. Outside of being reality TV stars, they have some serious skills.

Aside from the new and improved living quarters, what are viewers going to see on The Bachelorette this season? Taylor is a fresh face to the franchise ...

Taylor is an absolute wild card, and I mean that in the best way possible. As a host, I never knew what she was going to do or say. Obviously, she has a ton of experience on reality television but she’s green to the franchise. So we got unbelievable rawness and authenticity from her. She also has a very soft and loving side that I don’t think gets highlighted on her other show.

Going back to your original time as The Bachelor, did you genuinely think you’d find true love?

I was taking it a day at a time, but I did go with the right intentions. I had my heart open and my mind was as open as it could be going into that. You know, I was always somebody unafraid to say yes to things and to give things a try. But I wanted to be sincere about it. And looking back to my time on the show, one of the things I'm most proud about is that I really felt that way. And I look back on it with really fond memories.

So was it a fast yes? The show was still pretty new at the time.

It was not a fast yes. It took a lot of soul searching and a lot of conversations. When you get approached with something like that, you think about the ramifications on your personal life and on your professional environment. I had to ask myself, “OK what are my teammates at the New York Giants going to think about this? How's the organization going to feel about this? What do Mom and Dad think about this? How do my brothers feel about this? What does it all mean?!”

My parents actually were the ones that really pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and not be afraid of the unknown and take a big chance. And what made me feel good about doing it even at that very young age was that I was very secure. I felt comfortable and confident that I could maintain my identity throughout the course of filming. But I had no idea how big of a deal it was going to be. I had to ride the lightning through the experience of being on The Bachelor.

Do you still keep in touch with Jessica at all?

No, I don’t. But she still speaks with my best friend’s wife, who was actually on the show. She was “the spy.” Her name is Jenny. I think they’re still really close friends.

How did you end up returning to The Bachelor fold?

Well, it took almost 17 years. I had no intention of ever coming back into the franchise. And I would be totally lying to you if I said that if I agreed to be the Bachelor knowing that it was going to be my foray into hosting. I did not have a strategy or a master plan. My intention was to go back to playing football in the NFL, and that was it.

Life's really funny. Sometimes different things happen, and opportunities arose that led me into television and put me into a position to come back and join the franchise. I'm really grateful for it, but I absolutely had no idea that it was going to lead to this.

Now that you’re on the other side, what’s surprised you the most?

I expected a whole reworking with the creative and the episodes and the formula every year to try and keep everything fresh. But you can't over-prepare and plan before a season starts. So from my seat, I’m most impressed by our production’s ability to just let the action happen and adjust on the fly and follow the story.

The craziest thing you’ve seen that never aired?

Gosh, we film, like, thousands of hours of content every season. There’s just no way to get all of it in two-hour episodes. There’s been some funny and wild stuff.

What immediately comes to mind?

I once got bit by a dog on a beach. And I almost died in Fiji.

Really? What happened?

Charity [Lawson] and Dotun [Olubeko] had this amazing one-on-one date on this secluded little island in the middle of the water. I watched them on their date and thought about how I’d love to just go out there by myself and spend a couple hours on that beach when we were done filming. So I went out there. But then the storm blew in, and the tide started climbing up onto the beach—to the point where the beach almost got completely covered by the ocean. I’m just out in the middle of the ocean, and there's nothing there. And I thought to myself, I'm just going to have to tread water and hope a boat comes by and picks me up. At the very last second, a boat came out to check on me. But I did have some bad thoughts for a moment. Like, this is so crazy and ironic if this is how it ends.

What’s your theory as to why the franchise continues to thrive?

There's a romance and fantasy aspect to the show, but I think it's also relatable. People root for people, and they buy into our cast. The show’s secret sauce every single season is the cast—not the creative, the host or the exotic locations. You root for people. You want them to find love. So we invest in them and their stories and their struggles and the drama and the emotions, and we ride the emotional roller coaster.

Then what have you learned about romance from hosting the show?

More than anything, one size doesn't fit all. My younger self would have thought about romance as being very linear—there is a progression that most people follow in the same way. But after hosting the show, I’ve learned romance can take on a lot of different looks based on past experiences and personalities and comfort levels. Love just looks and feels so different to everybody. It’s like a fingerprint. I think that’s really powerful and beautiful. That’s very different from what 24-year-old Jesse thought.

You have some stories from being a young NFL quarterback back in the day, don’t you?

I'll write a book one day! I need to get those stories on paper while I still remember them.

So now that you’ve seen and done it all, let’s get your expert Bachelor take on various dating scenarios. Do you give a rose to splitting the check on a first date

No, no. I’m old-school. In my opinion, the man should get the check.

Do you give a rose to meeting someone online and swiping right?

Again, being old school, I prefer an actual in-person conversation. But I’m not naïve to the fact that it’s 2026, and this is how a lot of people are meeting now. So if you’re going to meet the right person and it leads up to finding love and good experiences, I’m all for it.

Do you give a rose to texting after a first date? Or do you have to pick up the phone?

I just think you have to communicate somehow, some way. I prefer a phone call. But I get that everybody is texting now, too. It’s better than DM’ing. So I’ll give a rose to texting over sliding into someone’s DMs after a date.

Do you give a rose to waiting a full day before replying to the text?

No. If you’re feeling it, you just have to text back and not play games.

Do you give a rose to talking about your exes early into the relationships?

That’s very individual and personal. But if the other person is asking, sure, I’ll give a rose to that. I believe in honesty.

Do you give a rose to meeting the parents within the first month?

Yes, because that happens all the time on our show!

So other than The Bachelor, do you give a rose to getting engaged within the first month?

I do because my parents eloped weeks within meeting each other. They’ve had a very long love story—it’s been over 40 years—and built a beautiful family. You just never know when you’re going to meet The One.

Finally, do you give a rose to giving roses on the first date?

Yeah, I think so. Roses are a very nice gesture. Chivalry is not dead yet. It doesn’t have to be on camera like on a certain show!

If You Like Aldi and Trader Joe's, You'll Probably Love Lidl—Here's What You Need to Know

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 7:15am

Great prices, superb quality, delicious items that have their own cult following and convenience are just some of what make certain grocery stores customer faves.

My friends down in Texas love the vast wine selection and seasonal tamales at H.E.B. Meanwhile, my sister will drive miles out of her way to peruse the wide choice of flavored nuts, sweet treats and other snacks at Trader Joe's

In 2017, Lidl, a longtime European discount grocery store, dipped its toes into the U.S. market with stores in Virginia and the Carolinas. Since then, they've opened more than 150 stores up and down the East Coast—causing a buzz and folks to ask, "What the heck is Lidl?"

Read on to find out what you can expect when shopping at Lidl.

What is Lidl?

Founded in 1973, Lidl is a German-owned grocery store chain that launched in the U.S. in 2017. Today, Lidl has more than 11,550 stores across 32 countries worldwide. Food & Winecalls the store "like Trader Joe's but better," thanks to its high-quality and organic groceries at shockingly low prices.

The layout and wide array of products, including clothes and housewares, gives us strong Aldi vibes, which also happens to be a German-owned grocery store chain. As far as we know, there's no putting quarters in the shopping carts at Lidl, though.

How do you pronounce Lidl?

Lidl is pronounced lee-dull, like needle—but the folks at Lidl like to say there's nothing dull about shopping there!

How many Lidls are there worldwide?

According to its website, Lidl has over 11,550 stores spanning Europe and the United States with most stores located all over Europe from Great Britain to Sweden to Greece and almost everywhere in between.

Where can you find Lidl in the United States?

Lidl has more than 150 locations along the East Coast from Georgia to New York, with U.S. headquarters in Virginia.

What can you buy at a Lidl?

Lidl primarily sells groceries, including a wide array of organic and gourmet options. The majority of their products are private label, which is one of the ways they keep costs low. So while you won't find a ton of different name-brand options like at other grocery stores, Lidl's offerings are known for their stellar quality.

And because Lidl is European-based you can expect to see Spanish olives, high-end cheeses that are perfect for all your charcuterie boards and croissants some claim are the best they've ever had Stateside.

Lidl also provides a rotating selection of non-grocery weekly surprises (similar to the weekly Aldi Finds), that include everything from kitchenware to power tools. In fact, in 2023, Lidl partnered with Arnold Schwarzenegger to launch Parkside, the store's tool brand.

Shopping at Lidl is a fun and unique experience where you can fill your cart with a family pack of jamón Serrano, Alpine holiday chocolates and matching family PJ's!

Added perks

Most Lidl fans gush about the free samples at the fragrant bakery section that greets you as soon as you enter. The bakery is stocked with German pretzels, those famous croissants and fresh breads made daily in-store.

Lidl also has a lovely floral section, and their flowers come with a freshness guarantee ranging from 7-10 days. If your plants don’t live long and prosper, you can bring the item in with your receipt and get your money back.

Sustainable and fair trade, please

One of the most notable, and popular, things about Lidl is its huge selection of organic fruits and veggies, along with grass-fed, free-range, organic and sustainably harvested meats, seafood and dairy, plus a huge array of fair-trade chocolates. Much like at Aldi, Lidl shoppers are encouraged to bring their own bags or you can buy bags for 10 cents each.

Don't forget the beer and wine

Lidl fans also rave about their big, affordable selection of both beer and wine, which might be why Food & Wine ranked Lidl as the 6th best grocery store in the country. Lidl works with Master of Wine Adam Lapierre to curate an award-winning selection of wines from around the globe that are sold in Lidl stores at really low prices.

Does Lidl have sales?

Just like at Aldi, Wednesday is the day to shop at Lidl. The store offers everyday discounts and releases weekly sales every Wednesday on limited-time items, which can be anything from seasonal ski jackets to sales on fresh produce like blueberries.

Daniel Radcliffe Accidentally 'Married' a Theater Critic on Stage, and She Wrote About It

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 7:11am

Daniel Radcliffe had no idea he was picking a critic.

Every night before 'Every Brilliant Thing' begins at Broadway's Hudson Theatre, Radcliffe works the house, mingling with the audience as they settle in, quietly deciding which five people will become participants in the show that night. It's an unannounced casting call. Nobody who buys a ticket knows they might end up on stage.

On one particular night, he chose a woman to play his love interest. She laughed. She seemed to be having fun. The scene, a kind of on-stage wedding, went well by his read. Then the curtain came down.

'I was informed moments after I finished the performance that I had picked a major critic to play my love interest that night,' Radcliffe said during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. 'And then I immediately started kind of backtracking in my mind to like, 'Well, she seemed to be laughing. She seemed to be having a good time.'

The critic was Sara Holdren of Vulture. Her review ran glowing. The line that got attention: 'Daniel Radcliffe and I are married now.'

The show, which runs through May 24th, is built around that kind of live unpredictability. Radcliffe starts the performance a half hour before curtain, already in the audience, already watching. Five people get pulled into the action. Everyone else gets a card with a word or phrase they shout back when he calls their number. Low stakes, but still participatory.

He's gotten good at reading a room. 'It really is just you go on kind of vibes and connection and hope,' he said. He's also learned what not to look for. Overeager volunteers get passed over. So do the ones pushed forward by a slightly-too-enthusiastic spouse. 'A lot of people want me to humiliate their relatives,' he told Meyers. 'They're like, 'Hey, here's my dad. Embarrass him.' I'm like, 'That's really not the point of the show.'

What he's actually looking for is simpler. 'The only thing the show needs to succeed is kindness.'

There have been awkward moments regardless. He approached one pair and asked if they were a couple. 'No, we're mother and son,' they told him.

Tracy Morgan, his co-star on NBC's 'The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,' came to see the show and landed on card number 24, 'spaghetti Bolognese.' Radcliffe said he chose it deliberately. 'The people who laughed know immediately how that will sound coming out of Tracy's amazing voice.'

His parents have attended roughly half the performances. He keeps them around partly for a specific bit early in the show that requires referencing an older couple in the audience. It's easier, he noted, than approaching strangers and asking if they'd mind being called old in the first five minutes.

Move Over Upselling—This is the New Cruise 'Ick'

Wed, 03/18/2026 - 7:10am

For years, the biggest gripe at sea has been "nickel-and-diming"—the $12 flat water fee here, the $20 specialty burger there. But as we move into 2026, a new, slightly more irritating trend has taken over the promenade, and even the most loyal cruisers are starting to feel the ick. It’s not just the upselling; it’s the constant surveying.

If you’ve been on a sailing lately, you’ve likely noticed a shift in the dining room and the spa. It’s no longer just about "How is your meal?" It’s a recurring, high-pressure plea for a "10 out of 10" review at the end of the week.

On recent Reddit threads, travelers have described feeling "held hostage" by staff who are clearly under immense corporate pressure to secure perfect scores. When your waiter mentions the survey before you’ve even had your first sip of water, your smart-splurge cruise starts to feel a lot more like a sales pitch.

This over-serviced paradox creates a literal and figurative noise that many guests find difficult to escape. From salesy vibes in the shops where browsing feels like a contact sport, the boundary between hospitality and hustle has blurred.

It is important to note that the "ick" factor isn't coming from the crew themselves—who are often working grueling six-month contracts and performing at the highest level—but rather from the high expectations for a "perfect 10" across the industry. This creates a newly frequent dialogue around feedback where the service can start to feel a bit more transactional than genuine.

The dinner hour has become a primary point of conversation for this new feedback trend, as one user shared: "The staff were constantly hounding us about doing the survey. Like ‘what would you like to drink.. ok.. make sure you fill out the survey at the end of the cruise. What did you want for dinner.. yes that’s a great choice please fill out the survey!’ Like omg chill."

Related: More Than 50 New Cruise Ships Are Coming Out Over the Next Decade

In some cases, the pitch even extends to the youngest travelers. Another guest shared how their "waiter spent 5 minutes basically explaining in detail that she needed us to give a 10 on the survey. At one point she bent down eye level with my son and said ‘when mommy and daddy get the survey what are they going to give us?’... I just want to enjoy our meal."

Because of the weight these scores carry, cruisers are beginning to notice how the feedback system directly impacts those serving them. As another traveler pointed out: "The survey thing is a problem of [the line's] own making. Employees will tell you the only way they ever get a day off is from an exceptional review on the post cruise survey. They should use a different system to reward employees and the problem would go away."

This creates a tricky dynamic for guests who want to support the crew but find the constant reminders "annoying" enough to impact their enjoyment. The guest also noted that they now see surveys asking if staff pressured them for scores, adding: "I of course said no because I didn’t want anyone I came in contact with to be punished in some way."

Ultimately, it’s a tricky balance for the big lines to strike as they try to measure the guest experience in an increasingly data-driven world. It's important to remember that staff members are simply doing their jobs in high-pressure, high-performance environments and typically go above and beyond to provide unparalleled service. Having some patience and gratitude as they work to ensure an incredible vacation goes a long way.

If you're feeling the ick on your next trip, remember the staff is just doing their best to meet those high bars. To reclaim your vacation, try the "Night One" Strategy: tell your steward immediately that you understand the survey, you plan to give them a 10, and let them know they can finally relax and just be themselves. And if your experience is lackluster because of it, feel free to send complaints directly to the brand. Ultimately, it's simply a few minutes in a dream trip where everything is taken care of—so a little bit of "chill" is always a good thing.
