Country Singer Rory Feek Reveals His 12-Year-Old Daughter Will Undergo Open-Heart Surgery

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 4:23pm

Rory Feek's 12-year-old daughter will be undergoing open-heart surgery.

The country singer shared a series of posts to his Substack, revealing that his daughter, Indiana, will have open-heart surgery on Wednesday, June 24. This comes after she was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) in February 2014, which is also known as a "hole in the heart."

"In February 2014, just a few days after Indy was born, after a very troubling appointment with a local doctor, we took Indiana to Nashville to have her heart checked out," Feek wrote. "They say that about half of all little ones born with Down syndrome have heart issues. And some are much worse than others."

"At the time of that first visit, we were told that Indiana had what is called a VSD (ventricular septal defect) — a small hole in her heart — that would most likely close up in time, and that in the years to come we would need to continue keeping an eye on," he added.

However, the hole in her heart never closed and has started to cause complications, with doctors revealing in January that she would need to have surgery.

"The hardest part so far has been helping Indy get emotionally ready for what's coming," Feek detailed. "Preparing her for something that's going to be very hard on her. Hard on all of us, especially her Papa, to see her go through so much difficulty and pain. But I also know that when it's done, it's going to make her life better."

After the surgery, Indiana will spend “10 days or so” recovering in the hospital, followed by a recovery of six to eight weeks at home.

In an update on Tuesday, June 23, Feek spoke about the pre-op appointment, where his daughter was "holding a new teddy bear they’d given her that she named ‘Hearty,’ who has his own stitches in his chest, like the ones she’ll soon have." She also got the chance to decorate her oxygen mask.

Joey Feek, the singer's wife and Indiana's mother, died of cancer in March 2016 at age 40. In 2024, he remarried Indiana’s teacher, Rebecca.

Beloved Rock Band Makes First Country Music Chart Debut After Ruling Rock Charts for 25 Years

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 4:21pm

Powerhouse rock band Shinedown, which has dominated the rock charts for a quarter of a century, is making waves in a new genre and hitting a major milestone in the process.

The Jacksonville, Florida quartet crossed over into country, with “Searchlight” debuting in the number 54 spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Billboard and the band took to Instagram to share the news, writing in a joint post, “The country chart debut reflects a broader reach that the group says is central to its identity — and, in the case of ‘Searchlight,’ rooted in the way the song was reshaped in the studio.”

“Searchlight” is featured on the band’s eighth studio album, fittingly named EI8HT, which was released last month. Though the band has consistently performed on Billboard’s rock charts, frontman Brent Smith told Parade that the group doesn’t categorize itself into one particular genre. After performing on one of country music’s most illustrious stages, the Grand Ole Opry, Smith shared, “You don’t see a lot of bands that would be put in the same category, per se, of our genre that do the Opry. But because we’ve always looked at the band as not formulaic in regard to… it’s a genre-less band. We don’t write music in a vacuum. Shinedown is everyone’s band.”

Related: 1992 No. 1 Hit Power Ballad Was Actually Written by a Country Music Legend

Smith continued, sharing how country music has always been a big part of his life. “Being from Tennessee, I remember being a youth and my granny always had Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn and Randy Travis and Patsy Cline. That was always playing in the house,” he said, noting that “Searchlight” is “basically a love letter to Americana.”

Though the band’s love of country music seems to be reciprocated, given the song’s chart performance, some fans are on the fence about the genre shift. “Please don't switch to country,” wrote one Instagram commenter, with another sharing the sentiment, before couching it to say that they don’t mind if the band’s music gets played on country stations, as “it'll expand their listening audience,” but that they don’t want to see a full crossover to the genre.

Target Grocery Shoppers Are Quietly Buying These 6 Items—and They're the Best-Kept Secret in the Store

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:48pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Target may be best known for its home decor, kitchen gadgets and reasonably priced clothing, but its grocery department has quietly become one of the retailer's biggest success stories. Over the past several years, the company has invested heavily in its private-label food brands, creating products that can compete directly with national brands while often costing less.

Leading that charge are Good & Gather and Favorite Day, the two Target store brands that have developed loyal followings among shoppers. Good & Gather launched in 2019 as the retailer's cleaner ingredient brand, and it quickly expanded into one of Target's largest owned labels, with more than 2,500 products across nearly every grocery category. Meanwhile, Favorite Day has become the retailer's destination brand for indulgent treats, including ice cream, candy, baked goods and snack mixes.

What makes these brands especially interesting is how often shoppers discover a product they love and then keep buying it again and again. Some items have accumulated thousands of customer reviews on Target's website, while others regularly pop up in Reddit discussions where shoppers swap recommendations and debate their favorite flavors.

One thing is clear: Target has stepped up its grocery game, and shoppers have noticed. Here, we've rounded up the six Target grocery items people are loving so you can try them for yourself.

What's the Difference Between Target's Good & Gather and Favorite Day?

Although they often share shelf space, the Good & Gather and Favorite Day brands were created with very different shoppers and shopping occasions in mind.

Good & Gather is Target's flagship food and beverage brand, and it serves as the retailer's answer to everyday grocery staples. The line includes everything from frozen foods and snacks to pantry staples, dairy products and prepared meals. Target built the brand around a cleaner ingredient philosophy. Good & Gather products are made without artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, synthetic colors and, according to the brand, without "100+ other unwanted ingredients."

Rather than focusing on everyday essentials, the Favorite Day brand takes a different approach. This store brand is designed around fun foods like ice cream, baked goods, snacks and treats. These products are meant to add a dose of fun to your shopping cart; the brand's tagline is "a little bliss in every bite," and we totally agree.

Together, these two brands have helped transform Target from a retailer that happens to sell groceries into a legitimate grocery destination. Good & Gather covers the everyday basics, while Favorite Day handles the fun stuff, giving shoppers a reason to keep coming back to the Target grocery aisles.

Fan-Favorite Target Grocery Items

While Target doesn't release sales figures for individual grocery products, these six items have all developed something close to a cult following. If you're looking to branch out beyond your usual shopping list, these Target grocery items may be worth adding to your cart.

1. Good & Gather Himalayan Salted Dark Chocolate Almonds, $16.99 at Target

Target

With more than 11,000 reviews and a 5-star rating on Target's website, Good & Gather's Himalayan Salted Dark Chocolate Almonds have clearly found an audience. The snack combines roasted almonds with rich dark chocolate made with 64 percent cacao, creating a sweet treat that still offers a satisfying crunch.

We can see these almonds making a great go-to movie night dessert or a tasty midafternoon snack to keep at work. They're salty, crunchy, chocolatey and nutty—what more could you want from a snack food?

2. Favorite Day Monster Trail Mix, $4.99 at Target

Target

Shop It!

With more than 3,800 customer reviews and a rating hovering around 4.7 stars, Favorite Day's Monster Trail Mix is one of the most reviewed grocery items in Target's snack aisle. Shoppers love the combination of peanuts, raisins, chocolate candies, chocolate chips and peanut butter chips that creates the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.

It's the kind of snack that's easy to buy once and then find yourself grabbing on every future Target run. The massive review count alone suggests shoppers keep coming back for more.

3. Favorite Day Premium Ice Cream, Pricing Varies at Target

Target

Few Target grocery products generate as much online discussion as Favorite Day Premium Ice Cream. In one Reddit discussion, shoppers praised flavors ranging from Birthday Cake to Moose Tracks to Cookies & Cream. One commenter called the Birthday Cake variety a "10/10," while another wrote, "I go crazy for their brownie and moose tracks!" In another Reddit post, a reviewer praised the Caramel Brownie Cake Batter flavor for its "good amount of mix ins" and "nice variety of textures."

The enthusiasm isn't limited to social media either. Even Bon Appétit's blind taste test highlighted the Favorite Day Vanilla Bean flavor as a surprisingly strong performer among national competitors.

4. Good & Gather Frozen Pizza, $6.99 at Target

Target

Shop It!

Target has invested so heavily in frozen pizza that it launched a dedicated collaboration with James Beard Award-winning chef Ann Kim to develop premium Good & Gather offerings. The initiative introduced restaurant-inspired frozen pizzas and appetizers to stores nationwide.

That investment reflects a broader trend: shoppers increasingly view Good & Gather frozen pizza as a legitimate alternative to national brands. The pizzas deliver premium toppings and creative flavor combinations without the premium price tag.

5. Good & Gather Avocado Ranch Chopped Salad Kit, $3.99 at Target

Target

Shop It!

Bagged salad kits don't usually inspire much excitement, but this one has managed to build a loyal fan base.

The Avocado Ranch Chopped Salad Kit currently carries more than 1,200 customer reviews and a rating of 4.49 stars on Target's website. Many reviewers cite the dressing as the standout component. One verified purchaser described it as "fresh, flavorful, and genuinely satisfying," while another called it their "favorite lunch."

Food editors have also taken notice. In a ranking of Target's chopped salad kits, EatingWellnamed the Avocado Ranch version one of its top picks, praising the balance of ingredients and tangy dressing.

6. Good & Gather Classic Hummus, $2.89 at Target

Target

Shop It!

With more than 7,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating on Target's website, Good & Gather's Classic Hummus has become a staple for many shoppers. Made with chickpeas, tahini and olive oil, it's an easy addition to lunchboxes, snack boards and quick weekday meals. Reviewers frequently praise its smooth texture and flavor, helping it earn one of the highest review counts among the refrigerated items in Target's grocery department.

How to Score Cheaper Deals for Target Grocery Items

ZikG / Shutterstock.com

One of the easiest ways to save money on Good & Gather and Favorite Day products is by joining and taking advantage of Target Circle. The free loyalty program regularly offers personalized grocery discounts, category coupons and bonus reward opportunities.

Shoppers can save even more by stacking Target Circle offers with Circle Card discounts and weekly promotions. Because many Good & Gather and Favorite Day items are already priced below comparable national brands, combining multiple discounts may result in significant savings.

It's also worth paying attention to seasonal promotions. Target frequently discounts snacks, frozen foods and pantry staples during major shopping events and holiday weekends, making it a good opportunity to stock up on your favorite products before they disappear from stores.

Fans Beg for Kylie Kelce's Forgiveness After Locking In on Jason Kelce Thirst Trap: 'I Promise I Looked Away'

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:40pm

A video of Jason Kelce ripping off his pants has set the internet ablaze, and fans are turning to his wife, Kylie Kelce, in apology.

The NFL legend was caught on video flaunting his impressive weight loss following his retirement from the NFL, and fans know how the podcaster feels about her hubby being ogled.

The clip in question captured Kelce’s entrance to a charitable bartending event in Sea Isle, NJ, in which he strutted into an adoring group of fans hauling a lime green life guarding tower that he placed—and proceeded to climb—in the middle of the screaming crowd

He wore a pair of patriotic swim trunks and a loose, cropped white muscle tank, but he quickly tore away the shorts to reveal a matching Speedo underneath. He left his hands high above his head for a few moments, allowing the crowd to soak in the moment (and soak it in they, and the fans online, did).

Those at home were quick to beg for forgivess from the athlete's wife for sneaking a peek, with one commenter bashfully writing, "sorry Kylie🫣 I accidentally looked but my eyes are closed now."

"im so sorry kylie I looked at it quite a bit but it doesnt mean anything," someone else assured her, while another emphatic fan declared, "KYLIE IT JUST SHOWED UP ON MY FEED I PROMISE I LOOKED AWAY."

"i was just scrolling i didnt go looking for it, i swear," someone else addressed the mother of three, while another defended, "my fyp really just drops me off wherever it feels like. I don’t even follow the eagles 🫣."

"Sorry Kylie, but I did NOT look away 👀❤️‍🔥," another brazen commenter quipped.

The comments were inspired by a clip from the mother-of-four's podcast in which she staked her claim to her husband after a flood of thirst comments, reminding fans of the seagulls from Finding Nemo that chant "mine."

“F--k around because they’re saying things like how fine my husband is or they would like a piece, or they’re doing the little drool emoji, Imma need you to sit down, put your tongues back in your mouth and be respectful,” she once said, ordering fans to “get your drool comments out of there, specifically.”

“I really appreciate you at least acknowledging me before you drool all over my husband. That’s respectful,” she added. “But that’s mine ‘til the end of time, that’s mine."

The video actually comes from last year's festivities in Sea Isle, though many fans mistook it for a brand new bit.

Kelce's alumni team, the Philadelphia Eagles, shared the clip on social media to help promote this year's event, hosted by Kelce and benefitting the Eagles Autism Foundation, taking place later today, where the former center and "his celebrity friends" will spend "an exclusive evening" with fans 21 and older.

Tomorrow, the Team 62 Beer Bowl takes place at the Sea Isle City Yacht Club—also, of course, a 21+ event.

Kelce’s fundraiser has grown steadily over the years, reportedly contributing under $400,000 in 2023 and raking in over one million last year, with the goal of setting a new record this weekend.

Pet Care Costs Are Rising—Here’s How Costco Can Help You Save

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:32pm

When you think of your pet, you think of love, snuggles, and the occasional midnight zoomies—not monthly expenses or line items in a budget. All good pet parents want the best for their animals and will go to great lengths—and considerable personal expense—to ensure they live long, healthy, and comfortable lives.

Unfortunately, that care is becoming more expensive. “American pet ownership experienced a pandemic boom as a surge of people added a family member with fur, feathers or fins during COVID,” says Simeon Gutman, Morgan Stanley’s Retail Analyst. In fact, pet spending could increase to 7% annually by 2030.

Photo by ANDRES MALLEN on Getty Images

As veterinary visits, medications, and preventive care become more expensive, many pet owners are feeling that out-of-pocket costs are impacting their household budgets. Fortunately, Costco offers several ways to help offset those recurring expenses.

Your Costco Membership Works at the Pharmacy

Costco members can access discounted pricing on their own prescriptions through the Costco Member Prescription Program. But the savings don’t stop there. With the Costco Member Pet Prescription Program, pet parents can also save on a wide range of medications, including Carprofen, Vetsulin, Gabapentin, Cerenia, and many others—helping ensure pets receive the care they need at a more manageable cost.

Photo by Dmytro Betsenko on Getty Images

Bring your pet’s prescription or have it transferred directly to a Costco Pharmacy, then present your Costco membership card at pickup to receive the discounted price. Costco also offers pay-ahead options for easy pick-up in-store, Rx locker pickup at select locations and by-mail delivery. These savings and conveniences can make all the difference as your pet ages and may require specialized care.

Costco Saves Pet Parents Money Beyond the Pharmacy

Beyond prescription medications, Costco also helps pet owners reduce costs on everyday essentials. Whether you're restocking food every few weeks, replacing chew toys or keeping up with preventative care products, buying larger quantities can help lower the cost and reduce the number of shopping trips throughout the month.

Shop Smarter For Your Pets

As pet health costs continue to rise, finding savings on recurring purchases can make a major difference. Costco's Member Pet Prescription Program offers discounts on many popular pet medications and care items, which can be the key to navigating the highs and lows of pet parenthood without impacting your wallet.

For many pet owners, every dollar saved on recurring expenses is a dollar that can go towards the next box of treats or a new toy. By stretching your pet-care budget further, you can focus less on rising expenses and more on giving your furry family member the love they deserve.

1966 One-Hit Wonder Is Still One of Folk-Rock's Greatest Anthems 60 Years Later

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:29pm

Certain songs from the 1960s still hold cultural significance, despite only briefly being radio hits. For instance, American Songwriter highlighted some one-hit wonders from the decade that still should be recognized by releasing a list of "these 3 singer-songwriters from the 1960s deserved stardom."

The list, published on June 23, featured the songs “Take A Letter Maria” by R. B. Greaves from 1969, Norman Greenbaum's 1969 classic “Spirit In The Sky," and Bob Lind's tune “Elusive Butterfly," released in 1966.

According to the publication, Lind found success with "Elusive Butterfly," off his album Don’t Be Concerned. The tune secured the number 5 Billboard Hot 100 spot, making it his most commercially popular song. In addition, American Songwriter credited Lind's songs, like "Elusive Butterfly," for being quite impactful in folk-rock music as a whole.

Bob Lind Discussed the Impact of 'Elusive Butterfly' in 2026

During a February 2026 interview with Goldmind magazine, Lind briefly discussed "Elusive Butterfly" to honor 60 years since its release. He noted that countless artists have covered the song, which he has appreciated.

"There are over 200 covers of my work. I have been very fortunate for that to happen," said Lind, now 83, in the interview.

Lind also told Goldmind that the immediate success of "Elusive Butterfly" came as a surprise.

During a 2016 interview with Best Classic Bands, Lind got candid about his legacy being tied to "Elusive Butterfly."

"Of course it’s only helped. It has a place in the hearts of millions. But it’s by no means my best song," said Lind to Best Classic Bands. "Only the gods know why one song, like 'Butterfly,' connects on a massive level and another doesn’t. I still sing 'Elusive Butterfly' in my shows, but I’m not an oldies act. I have no wish to revolve around my own corpse when I’m writing so much better now."

Lind also declined to share the exact meaning of "Elusive Butterfly" while speaking to Best Classic Bands.

"I leave it to others to decide what the song says. It’s tyranny to stand over one’s songs and dictate interpretations. Plus, I’m not entirely sure myself. It wasn’t concocted consciously. A curtain opened and it was there. I just grabbed it and wrote it down. Other than the thrill of the chase (obvious), I don’t know what else it’s about," said Lind.

Cristiano Ronaldo Just Set a World Cup Record Lionel Messi Will Likely Never Beat

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:29pm

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 11, and in just under two weeks, the international tournament has already seen a number of major records broken. Recently, soccer star Lionel Messi set an all-time record by scoring his 17th (and then immediately afterwards his 18th) career goal at a World Cup, beating Miroslav Klose's record of 16 career World Cup goals.

Unsurprisingly, this has intensified the longstanding debate about which athlete is truly the greatest soccer player of all time, Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. While Messi currently holding the title as the player with the most career goals at a World Cup might make him seem like the automatic winner, there are many ways to measure success and greatness within the sport.

In fact, on June 23, during the Portugal versus Uzbekistan game, Ronaldo set a world record of his own—one that seems unlikely for Messi to ever beat. Namely, among the five goals that Portugal scored against Uzbekistan in the 5-0 game were two goals by Ronaldo, which officially made him the first player to score goals at six different World Cup tournaments.

Ronaldo has actually scored a goal during all six consecutive World Cups in which he has played, which include the 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups. Notably, Messi has played in the exact same World Cups; however, he did not score any goals during the 2010 World Cup.

Theoretically, Messi could catch up to Ronaldo, but that would require Messi scoring and Ronaldo not scoring in the 2030 World Cup (and beyond). Specifically because of their respective ages, that feels unlikely. Neither star has directly confirmed that 2026 will be their final World Cup appearance, and it might be years before that is confirmed one way or another. Yet, with Ronaldo currently being 41 years old and Messi being 39 as of today, there's plenty of speculation that they won't return in 2030.

Aldi Finally Stocked This Cult-Favorite Cut of Meat Again—but Shoppers Will Want to Act Fast

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:25pm

Aldi shoppers know that some of the retailer's most exciting products don't stay on shelves for long. That's especially true when it comes to Aldi Finds, the limited-time items that often develop loyal followings and disappear almost as quickly as they arrive.

One of those fan-favorite products is returning next week. As part of its upcoming Aldi Finds lineup, the grocery chain is bringing back Specially Selected Wagyu Ground Beef, giving shoppers another chance to try the premium grind without paying steakhouse prices.

The one-pound packages will be available beginning June 25 for $4.99, while supplies last. And because it's an Aldi Find, shoppers who have been waiting for its return may not want to wait long to add it to their carts.

What Makes Wagyu Beef Different?

ALDI

Wagyu beef has earned a reputation among steak lovers for its lacy marbling and buttery texture. While the word "Wagyu" literally translates to "Japanese cow," it actually refers to several specific breeds of cattle that are prized for producing exceptionally high levels of intramuscular fat. The cattle are carefully bred and tracked through strict lineage records in order to preserve the genetic traits responsible for the intense marbling and rich flavor that have made Wagyu one of the most sought-after types of beef in the world.

While premium Wagyu steaks can command eye-popping prices at restaurants and butcher shops, ground Wagyu offers a more affordable way to experience some of the characteristics that have made the beef so popular. Aldi's version is 100 percent ground Wagyu, making it a practical option for everyday meals while bringing some of that signature richness to burgers, meatballs, and other favorite recipes.

While ground Wagyu isn't the same as a premium Wagyu steak, the additional marbling can create juicier burgers and a richer flavor profile, which is why it has become increasingly popular among cooks and backyard grill masters.

Why Aldi Shoppers Love It

Part of the appeal is simple: Wagyu isn't something most shoppers expect to find during a routine grocery run, especially at a discount retailer. Aldi's version gives customers a chance to try a premium-style product at a $4.99 price point. That makes it more approachable than many traditional meat options.

The timing is also ideal. With summer grilling season underway, the ground beef can be used for everything from burgers and smashburgers to meatballs, tacos, and meatloaf. The one-pound package makes it easy to experiment without making a major investment.

As with many Aldi Finds, the product has developed a cult following because it combines a specialty ingredient with an affordable price tag. That's a combination shoppers tend to remember.

For anyone who's been curious about Wagyu beef—or simply wants to upgrade their next burger night—this limited-time Aldi Find may be worth seeking out. Just don't wait too long. Once stores sell through their inventory, there's no guarantee when it will return again.

'I’m a Registered Dietitian—Here’s What I Always Tell Patients on GLP-1s Who Stop Losing Weight'

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:25pm

One of the most popular methods for achieving successful weight loss in recent years is GLP-1 medication. In fact, many individuals have reached their goal weight by taking prescription drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. Similar to any workout or healthy eating regimen, it’s absolutely possible to hit a plateau and stop losing weight—even while taking GLP-1s. But this may not indicate you’re doing something wrong.

“A plateau on a GLP-1 does not necessarily mean the medication stopped working or that an increase in dose is required. It often means the body has adapted, calorie needs have changed and the lifestyle plan needs to catch up,” Johannah Katz, RD, a registered dietitian with Consumer Health Digest, tells Parade.

GLP-1s work by increasing the natural GLP-1 hormone already in our bodies, which helps regulate blood sugar and control appetite. They slow down the digestive process and increase feelings of fullness, helping you consume less.

These prescription drugs are available in both pills and injections, and it’s recommended to pair them with sustainable lifestyle habits like regular movement, stress management, restful sleep, hydration and a nutritious diet. Resistance training and sufficient protein intake are especially important when taking GLP-1s, because you can lose lean muscle along with unwanted body fat.

If you’re just getting started on your GLP-1 journey, there are a few essential things to keep in mind. Below, Katz shares a pro tip she always tells her patients who find themselves stuck on a weight-loss plateau.

🩺SIGN UP for Parade’s health newsletter with expert-approved tips, healthy eats, exercises, news & more to help you stay healthy & feel your best self💊

Why People Taking GLP-1s May Eventually Hit a Plateau

You may be surprised to learn that a weight loss slowdown is expected and completely normal when taking a GLP-1. At the beginning of your journey, weight loss is rapid due to reduced appetite and food intake, in addition to shifting water weight.

“As someone loses weight, their body requires fewer calories to maintain that smaller body. In other words, the calorie intake that created a deficit at a higher weight may become maintenance at a lower weight. Weight loss also triggers biological adaptations, including reductions in energy expenditure, sometimes beyond what we would predict from the weight loss itself,” Katz explains.

Katz wouldn’t consider each slower week to be a “plateau.” A true plateau means at least four or more weeks of no true changes in body composition, weight, waist measurements or how your clothes fit. This is all assuming you’ve been consistent with your medication, healthy eating habits, hydration, exercise and sleep.

“A normal slowdown is part of the process. A plateau is a sign that the plan just may need to be reassessed,” she adds.

What To Do if You Stop Losing Weight on a GLP-1, According to a Registered Dietitian

Katz’s biggest piece of advice? Don’t address a plateau by eating less and less. Instead, consider whether you’re protecting your muscles, moving daily and eating enough protein.

“One of the biggest mistakes I see is waiting to lose the weight first before getting in the gym or becoming active. I want patients to strength train as early as they can safely tolerate it, because the goal is not just a lower number on the scale. The goal is to lose fat while preserving as much lean mass as possible,” she tells Parade.

GLP-1s can lead to significant weight loss, but potential concerns to be mindful of include muscle and bone loss, along with insufficient nutrition.

“Muscle tissue is also a contributor to resting energy expenditure, so preserving lean mass matters for metabolic health and long-term weight maintenance,” Katz adds.

Eating Habits That Can Undermine Progress

One major issue GLP-1 patients face is low-volume intake that may also contain minimal nutrients. For instance, when your appetite is suppressed, it can be easy to snack on foods like sweets, crackers or ultra-processed treats that are nearly void of protein and fiber.

“Appetite may be lower, but that does not automatically mean diet quality is high. When appetite is lower, then what you eat should matter even more, to ensure the body is getting what it needs and nutrient gaps aren’t more prevalent,” Katz explains. “For GLP-1 patients, I usually prioritize protein first and fiber-rich whole foods. Protein needs should be individualized—especially in people with kidney disease or other medical conditions, but for many active adults or people trying to preserve muscle during weight loss, I often aim for roughly 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal body weight or adjusted body weight.”

Prioritize lean proteins like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs, poultry, fish, lentils, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds and tempeh.

The 3 Most Common Errors When Taking GLP-1s

Here are common mistakes people often make on GLP-1s, according to an RD.

1. Relying on appetite suppression alone

As with any prescription medication, there are certain mistakes to avoid to ensure you continue to make progress.

The most common pitfall Katz sees is relying solely on appetite suppression and not establishing healthy habits that can help keep the weight off for the long-term. After all, weight loss truly is a lifestyle, and adopting sustainable habits can make all the difference in the world.

This leads us to our next point:

2. Not prioritizing the basics

Embracing a well-rounded approach is the name of the game. That means prioritizing the basics. All too often, Katz sees patients skipping resistance training, under-eating protein and not hydrating sufficiently.

“I also see people avoid the gym because they think, ‘I’ll start when I lose more weight.’ I think that is backwards. Strength training is part of the treatment plan, not something to add only after the weight is gone,” she stresses.

Related: This Common GLP-1 Dosing Mistake Can Backfire Fast, Doctors Warn

3. Wanting to increase the dosage to break through a plateau

Another common theme Katz cautions against is the desire to increase the dose to reduce appetite even further in order to shatter a plateau.

“When appetite is reduced, what you choose to eat matters even more because you have fewer eating opportunities to meet protein, fiber, fluid and micronutrient needs,” she says.

Moral of the story? If you reach a plateau while taking weight-loss medication, your body may be adjusting. It’s always wise to check in with your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian to see whether you’re actually progressing. The last thing you want to do is start eating less and depriving yourself of important nutrients.

Beloved Food Network Star Announces 'Powerful' New Partnership

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:24pm

When people think of Tyler Florence, they usually think of restaurant kitchens, cookbooks and his years on Food Network. But the longtime television chef is now taking on a new role that has little to do with recipes and everything to do with helping families navigate a serious health condition.

The Great Food Truck Race host announced a new partnership with Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people living with food allergies. The collaboration is especially meaningful because Florence experienced multiple food allergies himself as a child before eventually outgrowing them.

Today, food allergies affect more than 33 million Americans, including nearly 6 million children, according to FARE. Through the new collaboration, Florence will help raise awareness about the challenges families face while working alongside the organization on future initiatives.

"Food is one of the most powerful ways we connect with one another, and everyone deserves the opportunity to participate safely and confidently," Florence said in a statement. "I'm honored to work alongside FARE and support its mission to transform the lives of people managing food allergies every day."

FARE CEO Dr. Sung Poblete said Florence's personal story, combined with his influence in the culinary world, makes him an ideal ambassador for the organization's mission.

"Food allergy touches far more people than many realize," Poblete said. "Chef Florence's personal experience and deep roots in the culinary community along with his work in the entertainment industry represents a unique opportunity to bring new perspectives to the conversation around food allergy."

The partnership will extend beyond public awareness campaigns. Florence has also agreed to join FARE's Board of Directors, where he'll help guide the organization's work in research, education and advocacy for the food allergy community.

He'll also be honored at FARE's annual gala on Oct. 21 in New York City, where he'll speak on the theme "Creating a Table for All: The Time is Now." His remarks will focus on making shared meals more inclusive and ensuring people with food allergies can safely participate in one of life's most universal experiences.

For Florence, whose Food Network career has included hosting The Great Food Truck Race, Worst Cooks in America, Tyler's Ultimate and numerous others, the partnership represents a chance to connect his lifelong passion for food with a cause rooted in his own childhood experiences. FARE says additional details about the collaboration will be announced in the coming months.

Debbie Gibson Appears in a Hospital Gown—and Her Health Message Is Resonating With Fans

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:15pm

Debbie Gibson shared an important message as she stood in a doctor's office wearing a hospital gown.

The blonde beauty, 55, who rose to superstardom as a teenager with iconic songs like “Only In My Dreams” and “Foolish Beat,” shared a new photo set to her Instagram page on Wednesday showing her standing in the office wearing a hospital gown, commonly referred to as a "johnnie." In the caption, Gibson shared that she was at the doctor's office to get her annual mammogram, a low-dose X-ray of the breast tissue that serves to detect early signs of breast cancer. But it was the responses from fans and friends that made the post even more poignant.

"Dontcha love my gown?!? Health is always en trend ! 😉 This is your friendly reminder to get your yearly checkup, ladies!!! Thank you to the gals at Desert Radiology in Las Vegas for making health tests comfy and lovely always ! 😘 Buthena shout out to you on FB xo 😘 and all the #healthcareworkers who show up every day !!! The Responses Were Very Powerful

In the comments, fans and followers made it clear how glad they were that Gibson was speaking out about breast health. Some fans even noted that the mammogram was how their cases of breast cancer were detected.

"You know I'm a big fan of mammograms (that's how my breast cancer was found--I didn't feel a lump!), so I'm so glad you got yours! 👏," one person commented.

"My first mammogram saved my life 11 years ago. And I’m still here at 51 to tell the tale! Thank you for being an excellent role model! 💖💗💖💗," another person shared.

"Thank you for this visibility and support - well done 💕 As a cancer thriver I am so appreciative of you normalizing these tests and infusing with your signature uplift and appreciation of others! 🙏✨ Xo," someone else chimed in.

Gibson Released Her Memoir Last Year

Last year, Gibson released her memoir, Eternally Electric: The Message in My Music. The book chronicled her rise to fame, and her momager-mother, Diane, who was alongside her every step of the way. Diane passed away in 2022.

“I think I did her justice and told my mom’s and my story honestly and effectively,” Gibson told the Los Angeles Times in September. “Her passing deepened everything, especially the anniversary shows over the last few years. I’ve been considering the doors she broke down for a lot of young female singer-songwriters and producers. She was going to bat for all of them by sticking up for me in conference rooms, fighting for my voice and the young, female voice.”

Gibson cited stars like Taylor SwiftChappell RoanGracie Abrams, and Alicia Keys, all of whom started quite young.

Costco's Colorful 5-Piece Bowl Set Is an Effortless Way to Brighten Up Your Kitchen

Wed, 06/24/2026 - 3:05pm

I don't know who decided it was a good idea to make kitchen basics more colorful, but I appreciate them. Think about how many of your childhood memories involve that bright red ceramic bowl your mom used for making brownies, or the retro Tupperware colors that were everywhere in your home, from the fridge to kitchen cabinets.

Basic stainless steel and black cast iron might dominate restaurant kitchens, but at home, it's all about pumping yourself up to make another weeknight meal with something that has a little personality. Maybe that means cozy cottagecore plates or even pretty dish towels; either way, everyone can use a dopamine hit while cooking, even if you're just cracking open a box of mac and cheese.

Pandex 5-Piece Melamine Bowl Set with Lids, $24.99 at Costco

Costco

Costco is selling the happiest five-piece melamine bowl set with accompanying lids. It's truly a rainbow of color for your kitchen, with the multi-colorway consisting of red, orange, yellow, green and blue bowls in varying sizes. Some are perfect for mixing, others are great for serving, and still others are ideal for a big bowl of cereal or a late-night snack.

I really love that these are made of melamine because that means they can go from your kitchen to an outdoor picnic or patio hangout without worrying about ceramic or glass shattering.

Melamine is a durable, lightweight plastic commonly used for plates, bowls, serving trays and other kitchenware. Unlike ceramic or glass, it's highly resistant to chips, cracks and breaks, making it a practical choice for families with kids and everyday use.

This set also comes in a blue colorway, consisting of three bowls in varying shades of blue, a random yellow bowl (how'd that guy get in there?), and a white bowl.

While the borders of each lid match the color of the bowl it accompanies, the very tops of the lids are clear so you can see what's inside without opening them. That's a nice little feature to help control any refrigerator chaos.

The bowls are also dishwasher-safe, another welcome attribute, but remember to only put the lids in the top rack of the machine, or they can warp. Bowls are fine to go on the bottom rack of the dishwasher. The more you know.

Karen was reportedly arrested in Las Vegas and is now facing criminal charges, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ. The mother of 14 was charged with harassment, violating a restraining order, preventing a witness from testifying through threat of violence, and aggravated stalking.

Allegedly, Karen sent multiple emails threatening Deon, stating that she didn't care if she went to jail, according to prosecutors. She also allegedly threatened harm to the kids if they sided with Deon during their divorce — and Deon if he appeared at a court hearing related to a restraining order he filed against her.

A source reportedly told TMZ that Deon previously filed for the restraining order because of Karen's alleged threats. When they allegedly got worse, he then filed a police report.

Meanwhile, Karen's attorney, Jess Marchese, alleged to TMZ that Deon sent the threats to make it seem like they were from Karen. The Derrico matriarch is reportedly out on a $2,000 bond and is wearing an ankle monitor. Oxygen reports she has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 6.

Sense and Sensibility – Austen’s debut novel -- is the story of the three Dashwood sisters -- Elinor, Marianne and Margaret -- and their widowed mother as they are forced to leave the family estate following the death of their father and move to a modest cottage on the property of a distant relative in Devon after their half-brother refuses to share his inheritance. There the two eldest girls experience love and heartbreak.

In a previous interview, Caitríona told Parade, “Filming Sense and Sensibility has been incredible. I think it’s going to be really special. It’s strange, we always used to have these breaks [from Outlander] to go and do films like The Cut or whatever, but then you always knew you were going back to Outlander afterwards. It’s the first time we’re not going back and it definitely feels different, but also it’s exciting, there’s fun things on the horizon.”

Sense and Sensibility will open in theaters on October 16.
