2006 Fiery No. 1 Country Smash Named Ultimate Breakup Song by Fans—and It Still Hits Hard

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:44am

Breaking up is hard to do, unless you have a song on your playlist to help you through it.

In 2006, Carrie Underwood released Before He Cheats, and it quickly became an anthem for women dealing with heartbreak and betrayal at the end of a relationship. The fiery country hit gave voice to feelings of anger and empowerment, resonating with listeners who had been through similar breakups.

The song remains a popular choice for listeners enduring a breakup. Twenty years later, "Before He Cheats" remains a top pick on Spotify, where it comes in number one on its Playlist Miner in the category of Top Breakup Songs.

The tool analyzes thousands of user-generated Spotify playlists to identify the most popular songs within a given category. Underwood’s revenge anthem ultimately rose to the top of that list.

"Before He Cheats" became a massive 2006 crossover hit for Underwood, from her debut album Some Hearts, written by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard country charts and No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Tennessean shared the story behind the song, speaking to Kear and Thompkins 14 years after the chart-topping hit's debut. This discussion included the song's biggest shocker, that "Before He Cheats" wasn't originally intended for Underwood.

Tompkins revealed that the song "didn’t start off as a song for Carrie. It basically started off as a song for Gretchen Wilson."

"I went to a computer and was just typing what I wanted to be edgy lyrics. After the success of “Redneck Woman,” everyone wanted to get on the next (Gretchen) record. I typed up part of that verse and thought I had something kind of cool. From that point, I called Josh."

Kear added, "We were told that the first time Carrie heard this song, it was during the American Idol tour, and it was in the back of the plane as they were getting ready to fly from one location of that tour to the next. Somebody on the label had come up and played her the demo."

"She listened to it once and said, “I’m cutting that song.” There was no discussion of putting it on hold or just letting us know they would sit with it. It was just one listen and knowing she would record it.”

"Before He Cheats" started as a breakout hit for Carrie Underwood and has since become a lasting fan favorite. It continues to strike a chord with listeners who’ve lived through similar heartbreak.

A Surprising Season 4 Twist Could Change 'Shrinking' Forever

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:30am

After three seasons of grief, healing and personal growth, Shrinking is reportedly preparing to hit the fast-forward button.

According to series co-creator Bill Lawrence, Season 4 of the hit Apple TV+ comedy-drama will feature a significant time jump, allowing the show to move beyond the story arc that has defined the series since its debut.

The news comes after the Season 3 finale wrapped up what Lawrence, 57, has described as the show's originally planned three-season journey, which centered on Jimmy Laird's (Jason Segel) struggle to cope with the death of his wife and rebuild his life alongside his family, friends and patients.

Rather than revisiting the same emotional ground, Lawrence explained that the creative team wants to tell a new story with the same beloved characters. He suggested that viewers wouldn't want to see Jimmy still stuck in exactly the same place years later, which is one reason the writers decided to jump ahead in time.

Fortunately for fans, the time jump doesn't mean saying goodbye to the cast.

"I think this is a good idea and gives a chance for newer life issues and solutions to arise/develop before things get too slow and repetitive," said one fan on Reddit.

Still, others are concerned about the time jump and what it means for big storylines.

"One side of me is just excited for any new material of the show," one commenter said.

"But at the same time, that is a big time jump and missing some things such as Jimmy’s relationship and Alice in college."

"I’m really curious how this will work with half the cast living on one side of the country," another added. "Also, in logical terms, by the 2-year mark from the end of Season 3, Harrison Ford’s character should be basically bedridden with how progressive his Parkinson’s is, and given his age. But I doubt they do that, as this shows a comedy, and such a thing wouldn’t be fun to watch for a season."

Lawrence has repeatedly assured viewers that the entire ensemble is expected to return, including Harrison Ford's fan-favorite therapist Paul Rhoades.

Speculation about Ford's, 83, future on the series emerged after Season 3 developments appeared to set up a possible departure. But Lawrence has pushed back on those concerns, saying the "same gang" will be back for the next chapter.

Time jumps have historically helped television series refresh storylines, deepen relationships and introduce new conflicts while preserving the emotional investment viewers already have in the characters. For Shrinking, that could mean seeing Jimmy, Gaby (Jessica Williams), Paul, Liz (Christa Miller), Brian (Michael Urie) and the rest of the group at a very different stage in their lives than where Season 3 left them.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions.

How far into the future will the show jump?

What will Jimmy's life look like after finally moving forward?

And how will the relationships that fans have spent three seasons watching evolve during the unseen years?

Those details remain under wraps, but one thing appears certain: Shrinking Season 4 won't simply pick up where Season 3 ended.

Fans should prepare for something Lawrence has described as a new story—one that keeps the same characters but explores the next chapter of their lives.

Costco Just Dropped an $8.99 Loaf With a Butter Crumb Topping and It Looks Incredible

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:20am

If there’s one flavor combination that practically screams summer, it’s raspberry and lemon. Costco’s bakery appears to know it, too, because the latest bakery drop is a seasonal dessert lover’s dream.

Costco’s new Lemon RaspberryLoaf is made with lemon batter and real raspberries, finished with a generous butter crumb topping, all for $8.99. And if you're wondering whether it looks as good as it sounds, the answer is yes.

You can see it up close in this June 16 TikTok from @discovering_costco:

This one is hard to pass up. According to @discovering_costco, the crumb topping is as good as it looks. She describes the texture as “super crumbly but with a nice spongy feel” and notes that while the lemon flavor doesn’t come through strongly, the raspberry is present without being overpowering, and the loaf isn’t overly sweet.

The cake appears generously packed with raspberries throughout, while the thick butter crumb topping covers nearly the entire surface. The raspberry and lemon combination feels especially fitting for warmer weather, offering a lighter, fruit-forward alternative to richer winter desserts.

Costco's Lemon RaspberryLoaf Is a Bakery Find for Just About Any Summer Occasion

This loaf is a find that works for just about any summer event. It would make a great addition to a Father’s Day brunch spread or a summer cookout dessert table, and it’s equally at home on those slow, lazy vacation mornings when you want something special without any effort. Just slice and serve.

If you’re thinking dessert, try warming a slice and topping it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. That butter crumb topping with cold ice cream melting over it might just be the move. You could even grab a vanilla soft serve from the food court on your way out and enjoy the two together.

Costco’s bakery lineup rotates regularly, so if this loaf catches your eye, don’t wait too long. And if you end up loving it and want to stock up, you can always slice it, wrap the pieces, and freeze them in an airtight container to enjoy later.

At $8.99, Costco’s Lemon Raspberry Loaf looks like an easy way to add a little summer flavor to your cart, especially if you’re a fan of fruit-forward desserts and buttery bakery treats.

Dollywood Just Dropped the Details for Its Next Major 'Race-Cation' Weekend

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:10am

Anyone who loves theme parks and fitness knows that combining the two makes for the ultimate weekend trip. There's nothing quite like a course that winds directly past world-class roller coasters and immersive themed lands. While the industry already has famous race weekends on the calendar, Dollywood proved earlier this spring that they could host a wildly popular event of their own. If you missed out on that initial sold-out weekend, registration just officially opened for their highly anticipated autumn follow-up—and they are adding some incredible seasonal upgrades to the mix.

The Run Dollywood Harvest Half Marathon Weekend is officially returning from September 25 to 27, 2026, shifting to an expanded three-day format that takes place right during the park’s award-winning Harvest Festival.

The biggest update to the schedule is the introduction of a Friday night 5K on September 25. Unlike standard early-morning runs, this nighttime race kicks off at 11:00 p.m., taking runners directly through the glowing, immersive displays of Great Pumpkin LumiNights inside the park.

The action continues Saturday morning with a 5:30 a.m. 10K and a 1-mile Kids Fun Run later that morning, before culminating in the signature Half Marathon on Sunday, September 27. If you are feeling exceptionally ambitious, you can sign up for the fleet-wide "Butterfly Challenge," which rewards runners who complete the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon in a single weekend with a special commemorative medal.

Beyond the medals and event T-shirts, what really sets this race apart from standard marathons is the sheer level of local personality along the route. Spring runners absolutely raved about the on-course entertainment, character meet-and-greets and Dollywood's ultimate secret weapon: a dedicated mid-race fuel station serving up the park's iconic, warm cinnamon bread.

"We had an incredible response to our inaugural Run Dollywood event," says Eugene Naughton, President of Dollywood Parks & Resorts. "The addition of the Friday night race and the expanded three-day event schedule provide our runners and their families with the perfect reason to come experience fall in the Smokies. I think it will be a race-cation they will never forget."

Because the spring weekend sold out incredibly fast, park officials are urging participants to purchase their bibs early. To turn the weekend into a seamless vacation, you can also book a stay at the park’s neighboring properties, Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort or the DreamMore Resort and Spa, which gets you built-in perks like direct resort-to-course transportation and easy access to the race expo.

At the end of the day, this expansion shows that the smartest way to tackle a fitness goal is pairing it with a seriously fun reward. You no longer have to separate a grueling training schedule from a relaxing getaway with the family. It turns out the best way to celebrate crossing the finish line is grabbing a warm slice of cinnamon bread and spending the rest of your afternoon riding America's top-rated coasters in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.

When I'm looking for inspo for my bedroom, I'm always drawn to spaces that don't just feel decorated but also atmospheric. That's where a cottagecore quilt set changes the entire mood of a space. It isn't so much about styling a bed and more about setting a tone, like you've permanently shifted the room into a storybook kind of light, even when it's 8 a.m., and someone is yelling about missing shoes in the next room.

Cottagecore quilts, with their muted florals, washed-out pastels and slightly nostalgic textures, don't shout for attention. Instead, they settle in. They soften edges. They make everything feel a little slower, a little calmer, a little more forgiving. Even a messy bedside table somehow looks less like an eyesore when it's sitting next to something that feels like it belongs in a countryside daydream.

Late Beach Boys Icon Brian Wilson Would Have Turned 84 Today

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:00am

The late Brian Wilson would have celebrated his 84th birthday today.

The iconic co-founder of The Beach Boys, who died just over a year ago on June 11, 2025, at age 82, left a legacy behind, thanks to the music he created along with Mike Love, Al Jardine, and his brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson.

While tributes and memories of the longtime musician have sprung up since his passing, his daughter, singer Carnie Wilson, spoke about the past year without her dad on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this month.

The Beach Boys in 1966.

Photo by Icon and Image on Getty Images

"It's been a hard year," she said. "You know, we lost my dad last June, almost a year to this date. It's been really, really hard. Grief is gnarly, man. It's gnarly, but you know, there's been so much support, and the best news about all of this is that his music, The Beach Boys music, will live on forever, and we can enjoy it for centuries to come. And I am so proud to be a part of that legacy."

She also noted the recent 60th anniversary of The Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds, which includes beloved hits "God Only Knows" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

Of the album itself, Brian is quoted on his Instagram, which remains active in his memory, saying, “I experimented with sounds that would make the listener feel loved. The album was artistically set out in front of other albums and was, in truth, at the time, my biggest and best production. It was the first time I used more traditional and inspired lyrics which emitted feelings from my soul.”

According to a report obtained by TMZ at the time, Wilson died of respiratory arrest, the infection issues, such as sepsis and cystitis, as well as neurodegenerative disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory failure and chronic kidney disease.

Wilson, who was a dad of seven and a grandfather of three, publicly struggled with mental health throughout his time with The Beach Boys but was able to reflect on his struggles in a positive way years later.

"I'm doing good," he told Larry King in a 2004 interview. "I've had a slight nervous breakdown in the '60s. I got through that. And I got through the '70s. And I was in a doctor's program during the '80s and then I met [my wife] Melinda and we've been together ever since. I've got a happy life."

Following Reboot News, Cult Classic Sci-Fi TV Show Gets Another Exciting Adaptation

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 6:00am

In the wake of the thrilling news of an all-new animated series based upon the cult-classic space western series Firefly comes another new addition to the 'verse, as Dynamite Entertainment has just announced it is launching a new comic book series coming this fall.

Penned by Mark Russell (known for his work on Superman: Space Age and Batman: Dark Age) and illustrated by Lorenzo Re (The Terminator), the new peek into the beloved, short-lived universe follows Captain Mal Reynolds as he struggles to come up with the funds to keep his ship, Serenity, flying. Meanwhile, Simon and Kaylee find themselves pretending to be married to pull off their latest greatest heist before "an old caper comes back to haunt them."

There's no mention of other characters, including pilot Hoban "Wash" Washburne and Shepherd Derrial Book, who died in the wrap-up film Serenity, so it's unclear at this point if this new entry into the series' lore serves as a sequel or a prequel.

Firefly first premiered on Fox in 2002, but the episodes were aired out of order, making things a little confusing, and it was canceled before the complete season had even aired. The follow-up film, Serenity, was a box office bomb in 2005, but over the years, the series has built a massive fanbase and enjoyed follow-ups in the form of comics from Dark Horse and Boom Studios, which further built upon the universe's history—taking place over two hundred years since the Earth became uninhabitable—and exploring several decades into the future.

After much teasing from the series' entire main cast, earlier this year they revealed that star Nathan Fillion's production company Collision33 had partnered up with 20th Television Animation to develop an animated version of Firefly, with Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher,Summer Glau, and Adam Baldwin all expected to reprise their roles. Ron Glass, who played Book, died nearly a decade ago at the age of 71.

The series' pilot episode is reportedly called Episode #1: 201, implying it serves as a direct second season, so how Tudyk's character Wash is involved is sure to pique longtime fans' interest.

Unfortunately, there isn't yet a studio or streamer backing the project, so when—or even if—the final product comes to fruition remains to be seen.

As for the new comic series, the first edition, available for preorder now, launches in September, and comes with a selection of several different collectible cover art options.

1970 Rock Song, Originally Written for Another Artist, Became a Career-Defining Classic

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 5:31am

Every now and then, one of the biggest radio hits almost ends up belonging to another artist.

When Three Dog Night released "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" in 1970, the song became the band's first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and one of the defining rock singles of the era.

But, years before it topped the charts, songwriter Randy Newman had written it with another artist in mind: Eric Burdon of The Animals. Burdon recorded the first version in 1966, though it wasn’t released as a single after plans for an early release were shelved. It later appeared on the 1967 album Eric Is Here.

Four years later, Three Dog Night gave the song an entirely new identity.

Built around Cory Wells' energetic lead vocal, a driving groove and a distinctive electric piano sound, the band's version transformed Newman's wry tale of an overwhelmed young man at a wild party into a radio-ready rock anthem. Released as the lead single from It Ain't Easy, it spent two weeks at No. 1 in July 1970 and became one of the year’s biggest hits.

The success also introduced many listeners to Randy Newman's songwriting long before he became a household name as a recording artist and film composer. At the time, Newman was better known for writing songs that other artists turned into hits, and "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" became one of the earliest examples of his storytelling connecting with a mainstream audience.

"I called [music publisher] Chuck [Kaye] and he sent me to another A&R guy who played for me some Randy Newman stuff from his first album that didn't get played," band co-founder Chuck Negron told Riveting Riffs. "I was like 'whoa, this is unbelievable' and I brought it [to the band] and Cory said 'I know him, I have a record. He wrote a record for The Animals that I think is great.'"

"I talked to the guys about this,” co-founder Danny Hutton told Mix Online. "I don’t remember when I first heard 'Mama,' but Cory says that he tried to get us to record it for three albums before he was able to wear us down! Randy's publishing company used to send us a lot of demos, but to tell you the truth, I wasn’t bowled over when I heard the song for the first time. When we fleshed it out in rehearsal, it started to come together, but besides Cory, the rest of us remained lukewarm until we actually got down to tracking it. By the time we’d finished making the record, though, we knew we had something special."

For Three Dog Night, the song marked a major turning point. The group would go on to become one of the most successful hitmakers of the early 1970s, scoring classics including "Joy to the World," "An Old Fashioned Love Song," "Black and White" and "Never Been to Spain." Yet, "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" remains one of the songs most closely associated with the band.

More than 50 years later, the song still stands as one of rock's most memorable cover versions. What began as a Randy Newman composition intended for Eric Burdon ultimately became the breakthrough hit that helped define Three Dog Night's remarkable career.

Which Birth Months Make the Best Fathers? Experts Highlight These 4

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 5:12am

Who should win the “Father of the Year” award? As Father’s Day quickly approaches on June 21, all birth months compete for this prestigious award because they believe they’re the best father. While each month makes a good case, the following four birth months tend to make the best fathers. Dads born during these four months have the astrological associations and spiritual vibration necessary to be an outstanding parent.

Astrologers say that the four birth months—February, May, September, and November—share similar yet different attributes that shape their fatherly roles. Dads born during these months have the personalities and strengths aligned with fatherhood. They have an unbeatable motivation to be the best they can be for their children. Helping their children find their confidence and supporting their children’s self-discovery is the greatest accomplishment these birth months will achieve.

Which Birth Months Make the Best Fathers?

Check for the month you were born for pro insights.

February: Authentic & Compassionate

February birthdays were meant to be fathers. Dads born during this month are a wonderful mix of authentic Aquarius and compassionate Pisces. February fathers are uniquely open-minded and emotionally intelligent. Dads with this birth month are undeniably supportive of their children figuring out who they want to be. They would do anything to uplift, guide, and nurture their child’s individuality. They don’t care if their kid is a bit eccentric or has atypical interests, since February fathers encourage their kids to experiment with self-expression. They might even bond over shared unique activities and hobbies. If anyone understands and empathizes with self-discovery, it’s a dad born in February. Dads born during this month are the best at helping their children with self-actualization.

May: Loyal & Communicative

Dads born in May are there through thick and thin, thanks to being co-ruled by loyal Taurus and communicative Gemini. May doesn’t think twice about showing up for their kids. It doesn’t matter how late it is or what their child has done—May will be there. Aside from being so loyal to their loved ones, May fathers are also easy to talk to. They might have a no-nonsense attitude, but at least May is willing to talk about the nuances of a situation, decision, or agreement. Their kids can trust that May will be open and honest no matter the topic of discussion. Between their loyalty and communication skills, May fathers are the best thanks to their reliability.

September: Astute & Loving

If anyone pays attention, it’s a dad born in September. Dads born during this month love getting to know their kids due to being a combination of astute Virgo and loving Libra. September fathers make it their top priority to know their children. Knowing their kids’ food preferences, hobbies and everything in-between is important to September. They don’t want their children to feel forgotten or unknown. September’s commitment to being the best they can be is nerve-wracking, but their anxiety does motivate them to be better fathers. Nothing goes amiss under their watchful eyes. September readily anticipates their children's needs and wants. Being on their A-game helps September keep their family happy and peaceful.

November: Dedicated & Excitable

Fathers with November birthdays view parenthood as the adventure of a lifetime. Their views on fatherhood come from being a wonderful mix of dedicated Scorpio and excitable Sagittarius. Once November becomes a father, that’s it. Dads born during this month are committed to being part of their child’s life, because having a child transformed them. They’re completely and totally locked in with their children. Nothing can stand in the way of November being part of their child’s life. The one thing they look forward to the most is sharing adventures with their children. November cannot wait for family vacations and excursions. Making memories with their children is the greatest gift a November father could ever hope to receive.

1981 Hard Rock Classic, Inspired by a Bible Verse, Remains a Timeless Anthem 45 Years Later

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 5:11am

Triumph is known for powerful arena rock anthems such as “Lay It On the Line” and “Magic Power,” but one of the band's biggest came in 1981 with “Fight the Good Fight.”

Written by Rik Emmett, Gil Moore and Mike Levine for the 1981 album Allied Forces, the song features a synthesizer intro, acoustic and heavy guitar riffs, and Emmett’s soaring vocals. “Fight the Good Fight” became a rock radio staple in the early 1980s and remains one of the Canadian power trio’s signature songs and an inspirational anthem for all.

Decades later, “Fight the Good Fight” stands out for its powerful lyrics about struggle and resilience.

One of the lines in the song —“The Good Book says it’s better to give than to receive”— is a direct scripture reference (Acts 20:35: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”)

In addition, the song’s inspirational title comes from 1 Timothy 6:12, when the Apostle Paul wrote, “Fight the good fight of faith.”

Emmett once addressed the meaning of “Fight the Good Fight” and its biblical references in an interview with Songfacts.

“My aunt was dying of cancer,” the rock legend shared. “What can you tell someone who is facing the last challenge of this life? Or - what will you tell yourself? If you're in a rock band called Triumph, what message can you share with the people listening to a song on the radio, or standing on their chairs, out in an arena?”

“Everyone gets to decide what their own ‘good’ fight will be, but everyone should be encouraged to discover it, and do it,” he continued. “In this, St. Paul was on the mark. It's about resilience. It's about persistence. It's about finding a calling when things get bleak.”

During a solo show years after the song was recorded, Emmett told fans that when he wrote it he originally “had to write two sets of lyrics because Gil Moore “didn’t really like the biblical implications of a song called ‘Fight the Good Fight.”

"So I had a whole other version, and the chorus was ‘every moment of your lifetime,’” Emmett shared. “And when we had the deciding vote, and Mike Levine voted with me and Gil lost, in the final mix of the song, there’s two choruses on the layout. And the second chorus has the ‘every moment of your lifetime,’ which was the only line that survived in the mix.”

Moore also looked back on the origins of the song, telling Classic Rock Revisited he came up with a “Celtic melody” inspired by the recorder in the Rolling Stones classic “Ruby Tuesday.”

“Rik took over the lyrics,” he said. “He wrote all the lyrics for ‘Fight the Good Fight.’ All I did was irritate him. He kept changing the chorus around, and I kept going, ‘No, I don’t like that.’ For the longest time, the song was called ‘Every Moment,’ and then at the last minute he came in with ‘Fight the Good Fight.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t like that either…’"

Moore added that "Fight the Good Fight" "really grew” on him over time. “I really love that song for a number of reasons,” the Triumph drummer said.

First Female Canadian Solo Singer to Hit No. 1 in the US Turns 81 Today

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 4:47am

Before Shania Twain, Céline Dion and countless other Canadian stars conquered American charts, Anne Murray blazed the trail.

The legendary singer turns 81 on June 20, and more than 55 years after launching her recording career, she remains one of the most successful Canadian artists ever. Murray has sold more than 55 million records worldwide, won four Grammy Awards, collected a record 25 Juno Awards and became the first Canadian female solo artist to reach No. 1 on the U.S. charts.

Her breakthrough came in 1970 with "Snowbird," the gentle country-pop hit that became the first Gold record awarded to a Canadian artist in the United States. The song launched a remarkable run that would eventually include classics like "Danny's Song," "Could I Have This Dance," "Daydream Believer," "I Just Fall in Love Again" and her signature No. 1 hit, "You Needed Me."

Related: One of Rock’s Most Powerful Voices Turns 76 Today

That success helped establish Murray as a crossover pioneer at a time when country and pop music rarely overlapped.

As Rolling Stone wrote when ranking Murray among the 50 Greatest Canadian Artists of All Time, "Before there was Shania Twain, there was Anne Murray," noting that she crossed over from country to pop in the early 1970s and became "one of the biggest stars of Adult Contemporary radio."

Related: The Festival That Invented Woodstock Happened 59 Years Ago Today

The magazine also highlighted how Murray achieved sustained success on American charts while continuing to live and work primarily in Canada, helping pave the way for later generations of internationally successful Canadian artists.

Her influence is still being recognized today. Earlier this year, the Juno Awards honored fellow Canadian icon Joni Mitchell with a Lifetime Achievement Award, making Mitchell only the third recipient of the honor. The only other recipients are Pierre Juneau in 1989 and Murray.

Murray officially retired from performing and recording in 2008 after a farewell tour, later explaining that she wanted to leave while she could still sing at the level audiences expected.

"I wanted to go out still singing well, and not having to make excuses," she said.

Yet retirement hasn't entirely ended her musical story.

In 2025, Murray surprised fans with Here You Are, a collection of previously unreleased recordings made between 1978 and 1995. The album arrived 17 years after her retirement and gave listeners a chance to hear what she called her voice "at the peak of my career."

The release was followed by an all-star tribute concert at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House honoring her extraordinary legacy, with artists including k.d. lang, Trisha Yearwood and Randy Travis celebrating the singer whose career helped redefine what was possible for Canadian performers.

More than five decades after "Snowbird" first took flight, Murray's influence can still be heard throughout country, pop and adult contemporary music, making her one of the most important voices ever to emerge from Canada.

Holland America Line Brings Back Beloved Cruise Tradition Fans Say They Missed

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 4:10am

Anyone who's been on a cruise lately knows that the final night of the trip can feel a little chaotic. Between trying to weigh your luggage, settling your onboard account and figuring out what clothes to leave out for the morning, the vacation vibe can easily get lost in the logistics. It’s exactly why many cruise lines gradually moved away from formal final-night events, choosing to keep things completely casual. But if you appreciate a vacation that ends on a proper, nostalgic high note, Holland America Line is listening to its most loyal fans and bringing back a major piece of its shipboard history.

The cruise line officially announced the fleetwide return of its iconic “Until We Sail Again” Farewell Dinner, which will now take place in the Main Dining Room on the final evening of every single cruise.

Holland America Line

The revival is a direct response to passionate guest feedback from repeat cruisers who felt the last night of their vacations had become a bit too transactional. Instead of just another standard dinner service, the newly reinstated event is designed to act as a formal grand finale for the voyage. The ship’s leadership and crew will parade through the dining room to personally thank passengers, while the line's Vivace string ensemble plays live classical music—including a special rendition of the Holland America favorite, “Home to Rotterdam," and "Gelang Sipaku Gelang," a beloved traditional Indonesian farewell song.

"Before guests return to their regular lives, they are invited to connect to the world and each other one final time through delicious cuisine, impeccable entertainment and heartfelt hospitality—at least Until We Sail Again," noted HAL's post about the returning tradition.

For food lovers, the real highlight of the return is the menu, which leans heavily into vintage, 150-year-old ocean-travel heritage. The kitchen is resurrecting a curated lineup of long-standing guest favorites made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You can kick things off with classic starters like French onion soup or sweet, coconut-crusted shrimp. For the main course, the menu features heavy-hitting cruise staples including a classic fillet of beef Wellington, a port-braised lamb shank and a rich truffled mushroom risotto. To finish the night, the line is bringing back time-honored desserts like a proper baked Alaska and a pistachio chocolate cheesecake.

The grand finale dinner officially joins a unique roster of traditional, Dutch-heritage programming that Holland America has doubled down on lately, ensuring a sense of connection and continuity from the moment you embark until you say goodbye. Your trip starts with a high-energy Sailaway Celebration to get the vacation vibes flowing as the ship pulls away. On the first afternoon at sea, guests can head to the Royal Dutch Tea for an elegant service featuring bespoke blends of tea. Later in the cruise, the line hosts its famous Orange Party—a high-energy nod to Dutch heritage where everyone dresses up in bright orange shades for an evening of themed decor, specialty cocktails, and live music—all capped off by their signature stroopwafel turndown service at the end of the night.

While the new farewell dinner is hitting all the ships in the global fleet, it's officially rolling out across 2026, meaning you'll be able to experience the celebration on the final night of your next upcoming voyage.

6 Books That Will Be Your Next Obsession Coming Out This Week — And One of Them Is From ‘Thriller Queen’ Lisa Jewell

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 4:00am

Tuesday is book release day, and June 23, 2026 is no different. There are some exciting new releases, whether you want something for your romance shelves, or if you need something from one of the “Thriller Queens.”

Yes, Lisa Jewell is one of those authors with a highly anticipated release this week. There’s also a character-driven novel perfect for Summerween, a Hangover-style romance, and much more. Let’s get into the six novels that will become your next obsession.

Courtesy of Simon & Schuster ‘It Could Have Been Her’ by Lisa Jewell

Jewell has a skill so many authors would wish to have, and any new novel is going to make it to the top of your TBR pile. This week, it’s all about It Could Have Been Her, which focuses on Jane Trevally, who is simply walking her own dogs on her country estate when a small white terrier appears.

This terrier was staying with a teenage girl nearby, and when Jane offers to return him to his owner, things take a turn. It turns out that the owner lives at the Thornwood estate, which has its own dark history. The man in the house knows something, but is Jane willing to think back to her own dark secrets to help?

Courtesy of Penguin Random House ‘Nine Lives’ by Catherine Steadman

Another thriller out this week is Nine Lives by Catherine Steadman, and this one follows the story of the residents of a pastel-colored building. This story has a more voyeuristic feeling to it, as everything is told from an outsider’s perspective via a cat cam.

After witnessing a murder, our narrator isn’t sure what to do. The police won’t investigate, and it’s not like she can just go over and investigate herself. Or can she? This is perfect for The Woman in the Window fans.

Courtesy of The Blue Box Press ‘To Catch a Sinner’ by Lucy Wilson-Tagoe

You actually know Lucy Wilson-Tagoe as Dlyan Allen. She’s writing To Catch a Sinner under a pen name, but that doesn’t take away from the magic of the writing. It’s a steamy friends-to-lovers romance that is going to keep you up as you turn from page to page. Honestly, just cancel all plans for the night!

It is set in a fictionalized Washington, D.C., one that Allen believed would come about after the 2024 Election. Not only is it a romance between a relentless journalist and a mysterious lawyer, but it’s also a story of reclamation, challenging power, and what the American dream now is.

Courtesy of Viking Books ‘Tillinghast’ by Clare Cavenagh

For those who want something for Summerween, it’s time to turn to Tillinghast by Clare Cavenagh. This is a character-driven storyline that reads a lot more like Fahrenheit 451 than Dracula, with more of a chance for titular Stutley Tillinghast to tell his story.

For decades, he has avoided human contact as much as possible. When he does end up around people, it’s a brief and bloody affair, with people always ending up in his cellar. All he dreams of is the woman he still yearns for, who made him what he is today. However, when a woman called Sarah who shares his last name arrives, everything changes. It’s a tale inspired by the real-life vampire panic in 19th-century New England.

Courtesy of Zando Imprint ‘The Very Definition of Love’ by Sophia Benoit

If you love Regency romance, then The Very Definition of Love by Sophia Benoit is the novel that will pique your interest. It’s sexy, witty, and charming, described as being “if Carrie Bradshaw wrote Regency romance.”

Harriet Barrington is on her fifth season with absolutely no marriage prospects, but she doesn’t mind that. She’s happy writing her dictionary of modern slang. She loves researching late into the night while a party goes on in another room. However, when she’s found in a rather compromising situation with Lord Alexander, she needs to “kidnap” him and strongarm him into a marriage to protect her family’s reputation. Of course, it will be in name only. Or will it?

Courtesy of Simon & Schuster ‘Winner Takes All’ by Emily Martin

If you’re in the mood for a rom-com, Winner Takes All by Emily Martin is the novel to turn to. It brings an essence of The Hangover to a story about two music executive rivals who tie the knot. What happens in Vegas is meant to stay in Vegas, right? Well, not this time, as Eleanor and Adam want to figure out what happened that led to marriage.

The two start off trying to compete for the same band to sign to their respective record labels. However, as they wake up married, not only do they need to figure out what happened, but they also need to figure out how to get an annulment. And it turns out annulments aren’t as easy as TV makes them seem.

‘Coolest Guy in Rock and Roll’ Turns 66

Sat, 06/20/2026 - 3:16am

He’s a bass virtuoso, a New Romantic icon, and one-fourth of one of pop-rock’s most enduring bands. And today, John Taylor is adding one more title to the list:birthday boy. Celebrated for his signature blend of disco, funk, and melodic pop-rock energy, the Duran Duran star turns 66 today.

Now, more than six decades after becoming the undisputed king of MTV, he remains one of rock’s most influential players—and, according to many fans, the “coolest guy in rock and roll.”

Born Nigel John Taylor in Solihull, England, Taylor evolved from a shy, music-obsessed teenager into one of the most recognizable faces of the 1980s. Inspired by glam-rock pioneers like David Bowie and Roxy Music, he found his musical calling in the late ’70s, trading the guitar for the bass, embracing the instrument’s danceable, groove-driven possibilities.

That instinct would prove pivotal. In 1978, Taylor and his best friend, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, formed Duran Duran, laying the foundation for a band that would help shape the New Romantic movement and become one of the decade’s defining acts.

In 1981, Duran Duran introduced their sound to the world with a self-titled debut album driven by Taylor’s funky basslines. The record fused punk with disco and synth-pop, with two pivotal tracks — “Planet Earth” and “Girls on Film” — propelling the newbies to stardom.

Following their debut, Duran Duran released Rio, a record widely regarded as the band’s masterpiece and its bass work a masterclass, with tracks like “Rio” and “Hungry Like the Wolf” setting the standard for ’80s New Wave. Despite a lull, the band came roaring back in 1993 with The Wedding Album, driven by Taylor’s pulsing melodic grooves on “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone.”

Further career highlights include recording 1984’s “The Reflex,” their biggest hit, which spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and 1985’s “A View to a Kill” for the James Bond franchise. Also a No. 1 hit, the track was the only 007 theme ever to top the pop survey at the time. In 2022, Duran Duran were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Despite some lineup switches, the band have remained active since their founding, with their most recent release being the groove-heavy single, “Free to Love.” Billed as a “cyber-funk anthem,” it was co-written by the band’s core members with guitarist and producer Nile Rodgers, and blends dancefloor vibes with the band’s signature upbeat ethos.

”We went through a phase where we wanted to distance ourselves from history,” Taylor said in an interview with Complex. “It also felt like history wanted to distance ourselves from our history. But it sort of feels like the way the culture is today. It’s like everything is happening all at once. And that seems to kind of benefit us, but at the same time, we constantly have to do things. We just can’t all go to bed for a year and expect the name to stay in the public eye. We have to keep doing things to activate it.”

Outside Duran Duran’s orbit, Taylor has stayed busy. In 1984, he started the supergroup The Power Station with bandmate Andy Taylor, Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and vocalist Robert Palmer. The group produced some gems, including “Some Like It Hot.” Later, he launched Neurotic Outsiders, another supergroup, this one with Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Matt Sorum

In the late ’90s, Taylor launched his own record label in Los Angeles, Trust the Process, before launching a solo career and starring in the independent film Sugar Town. And while we’re at it, let’s add “bestselling author” to the running list, as his 2012 memoir,In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death & Duran Duran, was celebrated for its brutal honesty about the bassist’s struggles with substance abuse.

At 66, Taylor’s resume is brimming with gold stars. And somehow, he isn’t slowing down. Looking at that list is enough to make the rest of us reconsider what we’ve accomplished this week. LOL.

Have a wonderful birthday, John!
