1968 Iconic Ballad, Written by Jimmy Webb, Became a Generational Breakup Hit
Fifty-eight years ago, soft rock band The Brooklyn Bridge released “The Worst That Could Happen”—a career-defining song for the group.
Released in late 1968 as the lead single from their self-titled debut album, Brooklyn Bridge, “The Worst That Could Happen” quickly garnered national attention. Upon its release, the track climbed up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3 on February 1, 1969, where it stayed for two consecutive weeks. The track marked the band’s biggest mainstream hit of their career.
Aside from chart success, the single also experienced significant commercial triumph. Since its release, it has sold over 1.25 million copies worldwide, earning a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Creating “The Worst That Could Happen”“The Worst That Could Happen” was written by American songwriter Jimmy Webb. The song was originally recorded by The 5th Dimension for their 1967 album, The Magic Garden. However, The Brooklyn Bridge’s cover was the version that made it a generational hit.
The single functions as the quintessential breakup ballad. It tells the story of a man watching as the woman he loves marries someone else. Devastating lines like “And, baby, if he loves you more than me / Maybe it’s the best thing / Maybe it’s the best thing for you / But it’s the worst that could happen to me” instantly pulled at the heartstrings of millions of listeners.
Paired with lead singer Johnny Maestro’s powerfully emotional vocals and layered pop-soul arrangement, “The Worst That Could Happen” solidified itself as a song that simply refused to be forgotten.
Nearly six decades after its release, “The Worst That Could Happen” continues its legacy as pop-rock perfection. On Spotify, the track has persevered among modern demographics, racking up millions of streams on the platform.

Stephen King Praises Underrated New Horror Movie 'The Cycle': 'I Don't Usually Pump Up Horror Movies, But This is Special'
For one of the most prolific voices in modern horror, Stephen King doesn’t share news about his favorite horror movies very often.
But every once in a while, the 78-year-old bestseller chimes in with a recommendation for a movie or TV show that particularly interested him, as happens to be the case for the new horror film, The Cycle.
Arriving exclusively on the streaming service Shudder on October 23, The Cycle follows a forensic anthropologist (Deborah Ann Woll) who discovers her father’s body has returned 36 years after he mysterious disappeared.
As early reviews continue to circulate about the new movie across social media, King himself has added his own praise to the film, describing it as a movie horror fans won’t want to miss.
“There’s a movie coming on Shudder in October called The Cycle,” King wrote on X. “I don’t usually pump up horror movies (unless they are mine, haha), but this is special. Put it on your calendar.”
Co-starring Jeffrey Donovan, William Hochman and Jack Doolan, The Cycle arrives just in time for the Halloween season, making it a fantastic horror movie to watch as you’re filling trick-or-treaters’ bags on Halloween night.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the new film will exclusively arrive on the horror-oriented platform Shudder, rather than on more prominent streamers like Netflix, Paramount+ or HBO Max.
Of course, this isn’t the first movie of the year that has earned King’s endorsement. Among the handful of movies the writer has similarly praised includes the recent horror film, Obsession, which has earned standout acclaim from moviegoers and critics alike.
“I gave OBSESSION a B+ in my movie book, but I keep thinking about it,” King said of the blockbuster horror movie. “That weird mixture of humor and horror.”

Mackie worked with numerous stars throughout his distinguished career, but truly rose to fame for his collaboration with Cher. He also worked as the costume designer for “The Carol Burnett Show.”
“He saved me and many a comedy sketch by coming up with wonderfully funny character outfits that not only enhanced the writing but many times gave me the clue as to what the character I was playing was all about,” Burnett wrote in the introduction to Frank DeCaro’s 1999 book, Unmistakably Mackie.
Over the years, his clients also included Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Bernadette Peters, Bette Midler, Mitzi Gaynor, Liza Minnelli, Elton John, RuPaul, and many others. He had a few different nicknames, including the Sultan of Sequins, the Rajah of Rhinestones, and the Guru of Glitter.

'70s Rock Band With 22 Grammy Awards Named 'Persons of the Year'
Legendary 1970s rock band U2 is being honored for their five decades of musical achievement and humanitarian service.
The Irish band — which formed in Dublin in 1976 — were named the 2027 MusiCares Persons of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday, September 10.
“We are honored to celebrate and recognize U2 as this year’s MusiCares Persons of the Year,” said Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy® and MusiCares. “Their impact goes far beyond the stage. Not only has their music defined generations, but they’ve been equally exemplary in their dedication to humanitarian work and using their platform for good. We are so excited to come together to honor their collective artistry and commitment to giving back on this special night.”
The honor marks the 50th anniversary of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.’s legendary career. In addition to having earned 22 Grammy Awards and selling more than 170 million albums worldwide over the last five decades, U2 is known for being activists for peace, justice and human rights.
Bono was previously named Person of the Year by MusiCares in 2003.
“We are huge fans of MusiCares and the lifelines they provide across the incredible pool of talent that is the music industry. We’ve been recording and touring for 50 years because of that pool, from producers and engineers to carpenters and riggers. ‘Persons of the Year’ couldn’t be a better title as it’s the people we’ve been so fortunate to work with, and of course our indomitable audience, that have given us the opportunity to keep making music and keep rocking the boat on things we really care about. It’s such an honour, and we’re very excited to be in the front row of our first ever U2 gig…we know we’re gonna be outplayed,” said U2.
The MusiCares Persons of the Year ceremony will be held during Grammy Week in Los Angeles, taking place at the Peacock Theater on Friday, February 5, 2027.
Carol Burnett Shares Emotional Tribute to Friend Bob Mackie Following His Death
Fashion icon Bob Mackie died on September 14, 2026, at the age of 87.
Tributes for the fashion and costume designer, who dressed everyone from Cher to Sabrina Carpenter, have started flooding social media — among them his longtime collaborator and friend Carol Burnett, 93.
“Sadness doesn’t come close to how I feel. I loved him very much,” Burnett wrote in an emotional tribute on Instagram. “As for his genius, there are fashion designers who don’t do costumes, and there are costume designers who don’t do fashion. Bob did it all. There was no one like him.”
Mackie created all the costumes for The Carol Burnett Show, including the infamous curtain dress from the Gone With the Wind sketch during the show’s run from 1967 to 1978.
View this post on InstagramMackie called the show’s end bittersweet during the Newport Beach Film Festival’s Conversation with Bob Mackie and Carol Burnett in 2024, saying, “I just loved doing the show. I loved making the laughs happen when they happened.
However, the duo continued working together until his death.
“Once we stopped doing the show, I started doing more specials … like with Placido Domingo and Beverly Sills. And again, Julie Andrews and Bob always designed those specials. So we still were working together,” Burnett added. “And I did a Broadway show. He designed that. So anytime I had to do something, I said, ‘Bob, are you busy? Can you do this?'”
Along with dressing Burnett, Mackie is remembered for some of the most iconic costumes and evening gowns in Hollywood history, such as the JFK birthday dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962, Cher’s infamous ensemble with a huge feathered Mohawk headdress at the 1986 Academy Awards, and more recently, Vanna White on The Wheel of Fortune.
Mackie also recently appeared as himself in Season 5 of Hacks, when Deborah Vance calls him to ask who owns the jumpsuit Burnett wore in the final episode of The Carol Burnett Show.
As Burnett said above, there was no one like him.
1970 Rock Hit, Written in 15 Minutes in California, Was Inspired by a Christian Song
Nearly fifty-seven years ago, rock artist Norman Greenbaum released “Spirit in the Sky,” a song that dominated charts internationally and became a lasting classic.
“Spirit in the Sky” was initially released in late 1969 as the single and title track of his debut solo album. The track quickly garnered mainstream attention, entering the Billboard Hot 100 on February 28, 1970, at No. 64. By April 18, the song had peaked at No. 3, spending 15 weeks in the Top 100. In the UK, the song also experienced major chart triumph, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in May 1970.
Within its first year, “Spirit in the Sky” became a commercial phenomenon, selling over 2 million copies globally. Since then, it has been certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

“Spirit in the Sky” was written by Greenbaum in just 15 minutes after he had moved from Boston to California. The song was inspired by a greeting card the songwriter found, followed by a religious song country star Porter Wagoner sang during a segment on his TV show.
“I had come across a greeting card that said ‘Spirit in the Sky,’” Greenbaum reflected in an interview with Rolling Stone. “And it was American Indians sitting in front of a tipi, with the fire going and being spiritual towards what they had deemed God, which was a spirit in the sky. I think it was the Hopi. So I went, ‘That’s kind of interesting.’”
The rock songwriter continued on, recounting the moment he saw Wagoner perform the Christian ballad, noting how the combination of the two experiences prompted him to write his own song about religion.
“Then I happened to be watching Porter Wagoner. He had a TV show, and he did a religious song halfway through the show. One particular day, he did a song about a miner that was up in the hills, digging for gold. He hadn’t been to church [or] prayed for, like, years and years. And for some reason, he decided it was time to go back… All this is starting to connect. I said to myself, ‘Well, I’ve never written a religious song. I’ve written some oddball songs, but some serious song, I can do that.’ I just sat down, and it all came together.”
Greenbaum’s track utilizes Christian imagery to sing about the afterlife. Lines like “Gotta have a friend in Jesus / So you know that when you die / He’s gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky” shared the singer’s newfound outlook on death. When paired with the song’s blended use of stylistic gospel elements and distorted psychedelic rock, it instantly resonated among rock fanatics.
Nearly six decades after its release, “Spirit in the Sky” maintains its unfaltering popularity. In the digital era, the track has bridged the gap between generations of listeners, accumulating over 699 million streams on Spotify alone.

Macklemore Says His Ed Sheeran Tour and Friendship Fallout Was Worth the Message: ‘Free Palestine’
Macklemore has spoken out after being removed from the remaining U.S. dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour, saying Sheeran and his team ultimately decided to drop him following backlash over his pro-Palestinian comments at MetLife Stadium.
The rapper’s lengthy Instagram statement Monday was more than an explanation of the fallout with his friend or the impact it may have on his career. Rather than turning the post into a personal feud, Macklemore struck a notably measured tone, emphasizing love and respect for his friend and keeping the focus on the Palestinian people and the larger issue he was trying to bring attention to in the first place.
Even as he acknowledged their “painful disagreement,” Macklemore made clear that he hopes their 13-year friendship survives, leaving the door open for continued conversation, listening, understanding, and navigating “what neutrality means in a moment like this.”
“Ed is my friend. I’ve known him for 13 years,” Macklemore wrote. “We’ve shared late nights, studio sessions and stages.”
He added that he considers Sheeran “a brother” and described their relationship as one built on years of shared experiences.
“Nothing I’m writing here is out of spite or because I want to tear down [Ed’s] character,” Macklemore continued. “But as I told Ed multiple times on the phone, our friendship can’t change my responsibility to tell the truth about what happened.”
View this post on InstagramTheir storied friendship made the decision to drop Macklemore from the tour a particularly complicated one for Sheeran, putting him in what Macklemore said was a “f***ed up position.”
According to Macklemore, he and Sheeran had several difficult conversations following Macklemore’s appearance at MetLife Stadium, where he told the crowd, “Free Palestine,” and spoke about the war on Gaza. Macklemore said those conversations were “rooted in love and respect for one another” but ultimately ended with the two reaching a “place of fundamental disagreement.”
Macklemore said Sheeran told him that Robert Kraft had contacted him after the MetLife performances. Kraft’s company owns Gillette Stadium, where Macklemore was scheduled to perform later this month. According to Macklemore, Kraft told Sheeran that Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at the stadium. Macklemore said Kraft then rallied other stadium owners, ultimately creating an ultimatum for Sheeran: If Macklemore remained on the tour, Sheeran would not be allowed to perform at those venues.
The tour promoter, Messina Touring Group, has separately confirmed that venues objected to Macklemore remaining on the lineup and said the situation could have put upcoming concerts at risk.
For Macklemore, however, the consequences of speaking out were not unexpected.
“Taking a side can cost you,” he wrote, listing “money, brand deals, sponsorships, festivals, private shows, relationships, and access” among the things he has lost. Still, he argued that remaining silent was not an option for him.
“What I said at MetLife I have been saying on stages around the world for almost three years,” he wrote. “So why is it an issue now?”
Macklemore suggested that the difference was the size of the platform. Performing alongside one of the world’s biggest artists in some of America’s largest stadiums meant his words could reach an audience far beyond his own shows.
“At a certain level of exposure, ‘Free Palestine’ becomes too much of a risk,” he wrote.
Yet despite losing the opportunity to perform on the remaining dates, Macklemore said he viewed his two MetLife performances as immensely meaningful.
“I didn’t need 10 shows from Ed. I needed 2,” he wrote. “Two chances to stand in front of 90,000 people and say the words that somehow became too dangerous to say.”
He then made perhaps his clearest statement about whether he considers the experience a loss.
“If those words cost me the stage, while turning the conversation back to Palestine, then it was the most successful tour I’ve ever been on,” he wrote.
Despite losing the tour—and potentially putting his friendship with one of music’s biggest stars under strain—Macklemore’s message was that he would make the same choice again.
“Who is winning the internet, who is getting canceled, who gets to play the stadium and who doesn’t, all of it becomes so small” compared with what he says is happening in Gaza and the West Bank, he wrote.
He ended his post with two words that have now become central to the controversy: “Free Palestine.”
1973 Jackson Browne Ballad, Written at Age 16, Remains One of His Most Powerful Songs 53 Years Later
Over his long career, Jackson Browne has written and recorded many poignant and powerful songs, including “Sleep’s Dark and Silent Gate” and “Song for Adam.” While those songs were written in honor of people he loved and lost, “These Days” wasn’t about a specific tragedy.
With lyrics such as “I’ve been out walking/I don’t do that much talking these days,” and “Don’t confront me with my failures/I had not forgotten them,” the classic rock ballad is a sorrowful reflection on regret and disappointments in life—a mediation of the past that resonates decades later.
Written by Browne when he was a teenager, “These Days” was originally cut under the title “I’ve Been Out Walking” for a demo tape in the late 1960s. Browne then gave the song to Velvet Underground singer Nico in 1967.
“I wrote this when I was about 16, although not precisely in this form,” Browne revealed in the intro on his 2005 live album, Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1, per American Songwriter.
The acoustic ballad features a slow, reflective feel and fragmented lyrics about regret and acceptance. Recorded by Nico, Tom Rush, and Gregg Allman, the song first appeared under Browne’s name on his 1973 album The Everyman.
While the song has been analyzed for years—how could someone so young come up with such powerful lyrics?—Browne has stated that when he wrote “These Days, he was simply sharing his own story.
In an interview on Off Camera With Sam Jones, Browne was asked how he came up with such mature lyrics at age 16.
“I wrote a lot of songs in those days,” Browne, now 77, said. “I was completely immersed in the songs of the Beatles and Bob Dylan. If I look back in my mind at the room I wrote that song in, I also look at the records I was playing… I mean, to me it was not a heavy song or was particularly revelatory. I mean it was just telling my truth, the truth of my life.”
“There’s two sort of arcs,” Browne added. “There’s the arc of your development as an artist, and there’s the arc of your life as a person and what can you write about when you’re … there’s deep questions that arrive in a person’s life way before that. Whether they’re loved, whether or not they’re accepted by their friends, or whether or not they’re good at anything or can do anything or whether or not they have made any mistakes.”
More than five decades after its release, “These Days” remains one of Browne’s most powerful songs, an early glimpse of the introspective, honest songwriting that would come to define his career.
1985 NBC Sitcom Premiered 41 Years Ago Today—And Quickly Became the No. 1 Show on TV
It’s been over four decades of The Golden Girls, a classic sitcom that originally aired on NBC beginning in 1985 that quickly secured a foothold in the hearts of viewers everywhere and serving as a cultural revolution that turned the idea of ageism on its head.
Starring the late Estelle Getty, who died at 84 in 2008, Bea Arthur, who died at 86 in 2009, Rue McClanahan, who died at 76 in 2010, and Betty White, who died in 2021 at 99, The Golden Girls, which ran for seven seasons, took place in Miami, following four women—and roommates—navigating their golden years together: proving older women could still be sexual, complex and funny.
To some it may have come across as both risky and risqué, but, according to the Los Angeles Times, it was all worth it, as the show premiered at number one. 21.5 million homes tuned in for the very first episode, and it earned a “best new comedy of the season” nod from a number of critics. All four of its leads would also earn Emmy awards for their work, with White taking home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1986, McClanahan earning the win in 1987, Arthur taking it in 1988, and Getty earning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1988. The show also took home Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series over the years, along with countless more nominations.
The beloved series also featured a variety of impressive guest stars throughout its tenure, including George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bob Hope, Rita Moreno, Alex Trebek and Debbie Reynolds.
All these years later, the series still hits with old and new viewers alike. Fans on Reddit called it a “rare” example of writing and acting that “no matter how old it is, it has never stopped being funny and never dated itself.”
They applaud the series’ “modern approach” to topics like sex, race, and gay marriage, calling it a “pretty bold show” while serving as “a warm and comforting” place to find joy when things feel dark.
Since premiering on Disney+ a few years ago it quickly “become a firm favourite” of one new fan, which left original fans “happy to hear people are still discovering for for first time and becoming fans.”
It “says a lot about a 40ish year old show that can still pick up and hold new viewers and fans,” another agreed.
Earlier this year, The Golden Girls returned to broadcast TV for the first time in nearly 30 years, and it is also currently streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
Monty Python Members Eric Idle and John Cleese Lash Out at One Another on Social Media: 'A One Way Feud is Better Known as Bullying'
Eric Idle and John Cleese might be two of the most important comedians to ever exit the United Kingdom, forever changing the state of international comedy with their work in the surrealist troupe, Monty Python.
Though best known for their work on such iconic shows and movies as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Life of Brian and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the two former friends maintain a complicated relationship, notably spatting over the monetary gains of Idle’s successful Broadway musical, Spamalot.
Directly based on the Pythons’ breakout work on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot follows King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table as they search for the mythic Holy Grail, encountering rival knights, enigmatic wizards and memorably insulting French soldiers along the way.
While largely based off of Holy Grail, Spamalot was notably created by Idle and Grammy-winning musician John Du Prez, with the former providing the lyrics and book based off the 1975 comedy film.
In more recent years, Far Out Magazine has reported that the financial earnings of the show, which have been largely reaped by Idle, have strained his decades-long friendship with his fellow Python members, including Cleese.
Idle stood firm on the fact that he took a greater chunk of the royalties for Spamalot, the musical based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, than the rest of the group, a matter which has caused significant controversy.
“I think I have more business sense. I think they’re not very good at it, a lot of them,” Idle remarked in 2024, before revealing “they all got angry about Spamalot. You go, ‘Excuse me, I made you all a million f**king dollars each… when you’ve paid that back, we can talk.’”
With the recent publication of his memoir, Idle in Provence: A Brief History of Thyme, Idle posted on X about the book’s release, writing, “I hope you like and enjoy the book I spent five years on. That’s what I’m doing. Python is dead.”
In response, Cleese took to his own social media account to write, “Bearing mind that Eric has made at least 16 million dollars from the show, while Michael, Terry, Graham and I made just over a million each for writing ALL the iconic comedy scenes, maybe the gratitude should be coming in the other direction.”
While fans chimed in asking Idle to clarify his standing and any personal animosity he might share with Cleese, Idle flatly commented, “No – it’s unseemly and upsets the fans. Plus a one way feud is better known as bullying.”

And yes, stops in the United States are included.

The ’90s-era rock group also posted the news in an Instagram post, whose comments section has already been flooded by fans’ wishes for Oasis to make stops in other parts of the world (Brazil is a popular one).
There were also plenty of fans who expressed excitement for next year’s shows. “TAKE ME THERE, TAKE ME THERE, TAKE ME THERE, TAKE ME THEREEEEEEEEE,” commented one Instagram user, while another person wrote, “LETS GOOOOOO ❤️.”
Oasis Was Dropping Hints Before MondayThe British band had been dropping a series of cryptic video teasers on Instagram, sending fans into overdrive as they try to decipher what the clues could mean for Oasis’ next chapter. And on Saturday, September 12, the group added its biggest message yet: Sept. 14, 2026.
A spectacular drone display over Manchester first formed the Oasis logo before transforming into the date “14.09.26” and the time “4PM BST.” The band shared their own footage of the display, soundtracked pointedly by “Lyla” and “The Shock of the Lightning.” Find out more here.
Elvis Presley’s Favorite Hometown Meal Is Still Served More Than 70 Years Later at ‘Memphis’ Oldest Restaurant’
If you thought peanut butter and jelly was the only way to go, Elvis says, “Hold my beer.”
The King, better known for his swingin’ hips, crooked smile, and soulful voice, was a simple man at heart, opting for an easy-to-make sandwich over indulgent cuisine.
Of course, you can still visit his home, as Graceland has been a popular tourist attraction for more than four decades since his tragic death at the age of 42, but Elvis fans may not know they can eat just like him, too, by venturing into town to dine at “Memphis’ oldest restaurant,” founded in 1919.

The Arcade Restaurant may sound like an old-school Pac-Man hangout, but it’s actually a century-old downtown eatery that’s remained a community staple for generations—including for The King himself.
Elvis frequented The Arcade often, albeit incognito, typically settling into the same back booth where he could watch the restaurant action through a mirrored wall and slip out a nearby side door if fans spotted him back in the ’50s.

Elvis’ love for peanut butter and banana sandwiches has become nearly as legendary as the man himself.
The simple Southern delight was Presley’s favorite, typically combining creamy peanut butter with sliced or mashed banana between pieces of bread before being crisped up to golden perfection.
Today, The Arcade pays homage to its famous former regular with its own Fried Peanut Butter N’ Banana Sandwich, made with thick-cut Texas toast slathered in peanut butter, layered with sliced banana, and griddled in butter until golden brown.

Diners can even add bacon for a salty twist, though whether Elvis himself preferred bacon on his famous sandwich has been debated by those who knew him.
For The Arcade’s Fried Peanut Butter N’ Banana Sandwich, you’ll only have to fork over $11.25—a little pricey for a basic sandwich, but far cheaper than a Graceland ticket.
To this day, The Arcade is still going strong. Just four days ago, one diner raved on Google, “The food was great! The service was pretty good. The atmosphere was terrific. Apparently, it hasn’t changed much since Elvis dined there.”
The 2026 Emmys Could Break More Than 25 Records — Here Are the Biggest Ones to Watch
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards could be a historic night for Jean Smart, Zendaya, Quinta Brunson, and several other television stars.
More than 25 Emmy records could be broken during the Sept. 14 ceremony, according to data compiled by ActionNetwork.com. The possibilities range from Smart tying the record for the most acting Emmys ever won by a performer to Brunson and Zendaya setting new milestones in their respective categories.
Smart enters the ceremony with seven acting Emmys and is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks. A win would give her eight, tying Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for the all-time record.
Smart could make history in another way. She has won the lead comedy actress Emmy for each of the first four seasons of Hacks. Another victory would make her the first performer to go a perfect five-for-five in the category for every season of a show.
Alison Janney could also reach eight career acting Emmys. The Diplomat star already has seven wins, including four for The West Wing, two for Mom, and one for Masters of Sex. She is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Brunson has a chance to make history with Abbott Elementary. She could become the first Black actress to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series twice. Brunson first won the award in 2023, becoming the first Black actress to take the category since Isabel Sanford in 1981.
Zendaya could reach two milestones with Euphoria. The 30-year-old could become the youngest actress to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series three times and the first Black actress to win the category three times. Zendaya became the category’s youngest winner when she took home her first Emmy at age 24 in 2020.
Age records could also fall in several categories. Martin Short, 76, could become the oldest winner of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Only Murders in the Building. Eugene Levy currently holds the record after winning at 73 for Schitt’s Creek in 2020.
Harrison Ford, 84, could similarly become the oldest winner of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Shrinking. Stephen Root, 74, is also in position to break the existing record, set when Henry Winkler won for Barry at 72.
Sally Field could make history at 79 with Remarkably Bright Creatures. A victory would make her the oldest winner of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie, surpassing legendary Jessica Tandy.
Several nominees could also achieve historic firsts. Matthew Rhys could become the first Welsh actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay. Colman Domingo could become the first Afro-Latino actor to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Four Seasons, while Jack Lowden could become the first Scottish actor to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Slow Horses.
Widow’s Bay has an opportunity to make history beyond its acting nominations. The comedy already collected eight Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremony and has seven more nominations heading into the Primetime ceremony. It could surpass The Studio, which set the record for the most Emmy wins by a comedy in a single year with 13 in 2025. It could also set a new mark for the most wins by a comedy in its first season.
Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live could add to its standing as the most awarded program in Emmy history. Including its specials, the series has won 114 Emmys and could reach 115 with a victory for Outstanding Variety Series.
Two records have already been set at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys. Mariska Hargitay became the first person to win Emmys for acting, directing, and producing a documentary after collecting two awards for My Mum Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay. Julie Andrews, meanwhile, became the oldest woman to win a Primetime Emmy at 90 years and 11 months with her victory for Bridgerton.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards air Monday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC and stream on Peacock.

Hallmark Channel Stars Issue Urgent Warning in New PSA After Fans Targeted: 'Stay Safe'
Some of Hallmark Channel‘s most popular stars, from Lacey Chabert to Tyler Hynes, have banded together for a new PSA campaign, hoping to keep their fans safe from increasingly sophisticated and convincing online scammers.
On Monday, September 14, Hallmark Media launched an all-new PSA across its social and digital platforms, warning of scams specifically targeting Hallmark fans. The effort comes nearly one year after Hallmark issued a similar holiday campaign with several of its stars.
Participants in last year’s video who are back in 2026 — Hynes, Nikki DeLoach, Jonathan Bennett, and Andrew Walker — are joined in the new PSA by Chabert, Victor Webster, and Benjamin Ayres for the new campaign, with “an added emphasis on misleading AI, which is causing a rise in fraudulent scams,” the company said.
Hallmark Media 2026 PSA (0:45)“We have something very important to tell you,” Bennett tells viewers early in the new video, following Hynes and Ayres telling fans, “There’s a growing industry wide problem across social media.”
The six celebs take turns delivering the message: “Fake accounts are impersonating actors, reaching out to fans directly with misleading messages. And now with AI, even if it looks or sounds like me, it isn’t.”
Bennett then quips, “‘Cause let’s be honest, there’s only one me!” The stars then vow to “never contact you personally to ask for financial help, donations, or to meet up. If you receive or have received a message like this, it’s a scam.”
“It is a scam, I’m so sorry,” Chabert confirms, and fans are instructed to block any account that sends such a message, and report it to the social media platform where they received it. The stars concluded by urging fans to “stay safe” and thanking them for being part of “our Hallmark family.”
How Do Celebrity Impersonators Get Fans to Trust Them?As soon as the new PSA was posted to Hallmark’s social media pages on September 14, fans began to comment on their own experiences, including one who sarcastically wrote on YouTube, “I can’t tell you how many times Tyler has reached out to me! I’m pretty sure we’re besties by now!!”
Another commented on Instagram, “It is absolutely disgusting how many impersonators are out there on every single platform can’t even leave a comment without a spammer pretending to be so and so. Thank you all for this message!”
View this post on InstagramThere are a number of ways celebrity imposters convince fans that they’re the real actor reaching out. In many cases, they will set up social media accounts that look like a star’s real account. They’ll then reply to fans’ social media comments or send direct messages, pretending to be that celebrity, eager to connect privately on that app or elsewhere.
Some scammers use very believable AI-generated content, with images and videos created to closely resemble the stars, and will even reference their projects and locations to make their interactions feel authentic.
There are also scammers using AI to create false reports about celebrities, hoping to gain sympathy and a reason to ask for financial help. In August 2025, a YouTube video that claimed to show Walker looking gravely ill and in the hospital had over 48,000 views and many concerned comments from fans who believed he was truly sick.
NBC News reported in July 2025 that AI-generated “reports” were on the rise and becoming a major problem for celebrities, but also for established news outlets trying to parse out fact from fiction. Google, which owns YouTube, has said it’s been developing tools to identify videos made with AI, but NBC said the software is not yet sophisticated enough to help the general public, so fans must be exceedingly cautious.
