Mon, 09/14/2026 - 9:15am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

The most comfortable pants in your closet don’t have to look like the ones you only wear around the house. The Skechers Go Walk OG Pants are over 40% off on Amazon right now at starting at just $28, down from $49. They come in eight colors: navy, heathered gray, black, asphalt, canteen, purple sage, brown, and live moss/pigeon, with the best deal on the navy version. Sizes range from extra small to 3XL, with petite and tall options available.

These pull-on pants are made from 88% nylon and 12% spandex and feature Skechers’ Go Flex fabric, which has a soft, cotton-like texture and matte finish. The material has four-way stretch, moisture-wicking properties, and UPF 40+ protection. They also have a mid-rise waistband, a self-gusset for easier movement, side pockets, and two back patch pockets.

These are a very practical middle ground between fitted leggings and traditional sweatpants. Their bootcut shape doesn’t cling to your leg, and the smooth material and flat front give them a sleeker appearance than many lounge styles. You can still bend, walk, and sit comfortably thanks to the stretchy fabric, making them especially convenient for long flights or car rides. The machine-washable material also makes them a breeze to care for and wear again and again.

With over 1,500 five-star ratings, there’s no shortage of praise for these pants. One shopper called them “great for traveling,” while another said they’re “very soft” and “super comfy.” Another buyer mentioned ordering three pairs and even throwing out all her old yoga pants after finding these, while another shared that they’re the “best pair of pants I’ve ever owned.”

One of the biggest perks of these pants is that they come in three lengths, which helps solve one of the most common issues when buying online. The petite version has a 28.5-inch inseam, the standard length measures 31 inches, and the tall option has a 35-inch inseam, which makes it easier to find a pair that won’t bunch around the ankles or fall several inches too short.

At up to 43% off, the Skechers Go Walk OG Pants are a total steal. With their soft four-way stretch fabric, roomy pockets, and a choice of three inseam lengths, they’re a pair you can wear for far more than just exercise. Be sure to grab them while they’re still marked down this low on Amazon.

1983 Peter Riegert Film, With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked Among the Best Movies of All Time

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 9:11am

Not all films get a perfect score despite being known as one of the best, but a 1983 comedy-drama starring Peter Riegert got that very honor and takes place on the coast of Scotland.

Local Hero was listed on Rotten Tomatoes‘ “Best Movies of All Time” with a perfect score of 100%. Film critic Robert Ebert called it a “small film to treasure,” while others called it a “fragment of cinematic whimsy.” It was even called one that offers more hope than other British films of the 1980s.

The film was written and directed by Bill Forsyth and produced by David Puttnam. Puttnam was known for a series of hit films, like his Oscar-winning historical sports drama Chariots of Fire, The Mission, and The Killing Fields, before working on Local Hero. A few years after his most well-known role in Animal House, Riegert starred as oil company executive “Mac” MacIntyre.

MacIntyre is sent to the remote Scottish coastal village of Ferness by his eccentric billionaire boss, Felix Happer. His goal is to buy out the entire town and its property to build a massive oil refinery. While expecting some pushback from the locals over selling their land, MacIntyre is utterly surprised by what really happens. The townspeople are more than willing to sell to get rich, but MacIntyre begins to see life in the coastal town differently the longer he stays.

“I saw it along the lines of a Scottish Beverly Hillbillies—what would happen to a small community when it suddenly became immensely rich—that was the germ of the idea and the story built itself from there,” said Forsyth, according to IMDb.

Joining Riegert as part of the film’s cast were Burt Lancaster, Denis Lawson, Peter Capaldi, and Fulton Mackay. It was reported that Michael Douglas and Henry Winkler were both pursued by Forsyth to play the role of MacIntyre, but the role ultimately went to Riegert.

Reigert once commented that Local Hero was “one of the best screenplays I’d ever read,” and its storyline ends up being “so exceptionally human in a very funny way.” When it came to working with Forsyth, the actor praised his “devilish sense of humour” and said, “When I met him, I just fell in love with the guy. I was in heaven, literally.”

Beyond the film’s storyline, Local Hero was also praised for its soundtrack produced by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. It led to popularity for the film thanks to the band’s fans, with Knopfler having developed the well-known instrumental rock track “Going Home” as its theme song. It also marked the debut solo single for the singer.

Local Hero ended up being nominated for seven BAFTA Awards in 1984, with Forsyth winning Best Director. Years later, it was recognized by the British Film Institute as one of the best British films of the 20th century and was later given a stage musical adaptation.

’70s Rock Legend, a Greaser Who Actually Went to Juilliard, Turns 79

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 9:07am

In 1970, Jon Bauman joined the rock and roll revival group Sha Na Na and created a muscle-bound, pompadoured greaser named “Bowzer.” But the man underneath the muscle shirt had a background few fans would have guessed.

Bauman, who turns 79 on Sept. 14, was a classically trained pianist who began lessons at age 7 and started attending the prestigious Juilliard School when he was just 12. He later graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University.

Then came Bowzer.

With his slicked-back hair, sleeveless shirts, exaggerated poses and “Grease for Peace!” catchphrase, Bauman became one of Sha Na Na’s most recognizable members. He performed with the group from 1970 to 1983 and was a fixture on its syndicated Sha Na Na variety show, which ran from 1977 to 1981.

Bauman missed Sha Na Na’s legendary 1969 Woodstock appearance, joining the group the following year. By then, the band’s unlikely celebration of 1950s rock and roll had helped turn it into a national phenomenon. Sha Na Na’s Woodstock performance immediately preceded Jimi Hendrix’s festival-closing set.

The group’s success eventually extended far beyond the concert stage. Sha Na Na appeared in the 1978 blockbuster Grease as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers, performing several songs in the film, including “Born to Hand Jive.”

Bauman became a familiar television presence outside the group as well, appearing on game shows including Match Game and Password Plus. After leaving Sha Na Na, he hosted the Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour and spent two years as one of VH1’s early VJs.

His musical career also came with some remarkable brushes with rock history. Sha Na Na once had a young Bruce Springsteen as an opening act, and in 1972, the group was one of only four acts invited to perform at John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s One-to-One benefit concert at Madison Square Garden.

Not bad for a Juilliard kid who convinced millions of viewers he belonged on the streets with the greasers.

Football Fans Just Got An Excuse To Make A Trip To Hawaii

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 9:05am

Football season is officially underway and fans looking for an excuse to turn a game day road trip into a full-blown vacation now have one thanks to one Hawaiian hotel.

Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort has launched its new Road Warrior Fan Escape Package, giving football fans a reason to trade the typical away game experience for a few days in Waikiki.

The package includes daily breakfast for two, a $100 resort credit, and a special Sheraton Hawaii Bowl-themed welcome amenity. A minimum three-night stay is required, and the package is currently available to book directly through the resort.

While the package isn’t limited to fans attending the Hawaii Bowl, the timing is pretty perfect. The 23rd Annual Sheraton Hawaii Bowl is set for Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2026 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. The game kicks off at 2 p.m. Hawaii time (7 p.m. Eastern) and will air on ESPN.

Of course, there’s plenty to do in Waikiki once the final whistle blows. The oceanfront resort is home to the adults-only Edge Infinity Pool and Hinahina, a new dining concept, is also set to debut at the resort this month. For travelers looking to explore beyond Sheraton Waikiki, the iconic Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, known for its distinctive pink facade and beachfront setting is right next door, and the historic Moana Surfrider, which turned 125 this year, offers some of the best mango pancakes in town.

View this post on Instagram

In other words, fans can make a full vacation out of the trip instead of simply flying in for the game and heading home.

“Whether your favorite team or student-athlete plays on a field, the pitch, a diamond or on a court, Sheraton Waikiki is the ideal home base for fans and supporters of all ages to retreat to after the final whistle,” Tetsuji Yamazaki, general manager of Sheraton Waikiki, said in a statement shared with Parade.

If you’re already dreaming about watching football with a view of the Pacific Ocean instead of bundled up in the stands, Christmas Eve in Hawaii suddenly sounds like a pretty good plan.

Hyrox Winner Who Soiled Herself While Competing Defends Her Decision to Continue Race

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:55am

One Australian Hyrox athlete isn’t apologizing for pushing through an extremely messy situation.

Joanna Wietrzyk, 22, became the center of an online debate over the weekend after suffering bowel incontinence while competing in a Hyrox race at Beijing’s National Speed Skating Oval on Saturday, September 12. Rather than withdraw, Wietrzyk decided to continue through the remaining portions of the grueling fitness competition.

Photos and videos circulating online show fecal matter on the athlete’s legs as she completed different workout stations.

Wietrzyk ended up winning the race for athletes ages 16 to 24, finishing in 1 hour, 1 minute and 23 seconds. Afterward, she reportedly shared a now-deleted selfie from what appeared to be a hospital bed—and made it clear she stood by her finish.

“Go hard or go home … a win is a win. In all seriousness, thank you for all the support. I’ll be back soon x,” she wrote, per news.com.au.

The decision has since divided social media. Many argued that continuing created a hygiene and health concern for fellow competitors.

“HYROX should have immediately stopped her when it happened. There are no blurred lines here,” one wrote in the comments on Hyrox’s official Instagram statement.

View this post on Instagram

“You’re protecting 1 athlete and neglecting all the others with this statement, what kind of action is being taken right now?” another asked.

A third wrote, “Wow. I’ve been training for my first HYROX, but after reading this statement, I’m seriously reconsidering whether this is an organization I want to support.”

Hyrox’s statement did not identify Wietrzyk by name. The organization acknowledged that “an unforeseen situation arose” during the competition, explaining that existing biocontaminant and medical procedures became unclear when applied across elite competition and mass participation.

“We recognise that this can understandably lead to frustration, questions and strong views within our community,” Hyrox said. “Those concerns are legitimate and, as organisers, we must be prepared to hear them, examine what happened and take responsibility for continuing to improve. And we will.”

However, the organization also firmly defended its athletes from the more extreme backlash, revealing that threats of violence had been made following the incident.

Hyrox said anyone identified as threatening or encouraging harm against an athlete will be permanently banned from its events, adding that it is currently reviewing the comments and accounts involved.

Goldblum Just Hosted SNL U.K.

Goldblum has proven he can do comedy and drama, and he just headed to London this past weekend to host the Season 2 premiere of SNL U.K.

“I’m a big Anglophile,” he told Variety. “I’ve read all of P.G. Wodehouse. We recently filmed ‘Wicked’ there, and I did the last ‘Jurassic’ movie there. I’ve spent a lot of time in London. I’ve done a couple of things on the West End. I’m a big fan. I’m excited and humbled and thrilled to be part of it.”

Goldblum has hosted the American version of Saturday Night Live twice: In 1993 and 1997. But every time, the experience proves to be quite challenging.

“It’ll get your blood going and put you on alert,” he recalled. “It’s a fun, exciting, creatively chaotic and delicious week. It seems they’re following something of the same schedule this week. I kind of remember it in my bones. When you finally get yourself out there, you’re trying to just do the assignment. It’s a blast.”

Penguin Random House Launches new Crossover Imprint Perfect for Romance and Fantasy Fans

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:44am

Fall 2026 will see the arrival of Berkley XO, a new crossover imprint from Penguin Random House’s Berkley. That’s not the only new imprint coming from the world of PRH. There’s another new adult crossover imprint on the way, and it’s going to be perfect for romance and fantasy fans. It’s all about DUSK, and this is for readers in the UK and Europe.

The target audience for DUSK is those moving between young adult, new adult, and adult fiction. Romance is at the heart of it all, and that can mean cozy romance, sports romance, and romantasy. In fact, there are already some novels in the works, set to be released in the fall, according to The Bookseller.

Those looking forward to the U.S. imprint Berkley XO will recognize one of the titles. Charlotte B. Plumb’s Reap & Sow will be part of the new British venture, and it makes sense. Plumb is a British author, and while it’s exciting that she’s working with the new U.S. imprint, she’s a great voice to market the new UK one.

Courtesy of Berkley XO

The Ascended by Bree Grenwich and Parker Lennox will also be the first release in the fall. Their conclusion to the Espirithean trilogy, Realmblade, will be published in 2027 under the DUSK imprint.

Also in 2027, Teammates to Lovers by Jenny Linsky, We Go Together by Edward Schmit, and Not Another Vampire Romance by B Celeste will also be published.

Publisher Carmen McCullough will lead the charge on the imprint, along with editorical director Amina Parchment-Youssef. McCullough shared that this is a way to reach readers who don’t see themselves in the more traditional spaces. They don’t stick to one genre, and they want to be able to easily move between different stages of life to focus on how love stories grow.

She shared, ““We’re incredibly excited to expand into the new adult crossover space in a bigger, bolder way; building a dedicated home that speaks to today’s readers on their own terms.”

The imprint will have its own dedicated Instagram channel, and there will be launch events throughout the UK and mainland Europe. This is similar to the way the Berkley XO imprint pushed its marketing in the United States, quickly gaining interest and attraction.

'The Traitors' New Show Replaces Long-Time Host with 'Ted Lasso's Nick Mohammed: 'I Couldn't Be More Delighted'

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:43am

The Traitors has officially found its latest host with the recent confirmation that Ted Lasso‘s Nick Muhammed will appear as the host of the upcoming U.K. stage show, The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal.

A West End adaptation of the hit BBC One-iPlayer competition series, The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal is set to premiere in London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre on May 11, 2027, featuring five separate plays in one, according to the website description.

“From Monday to Friday, the story begins identically, but develops into five entirely distinct plays,” the site explained. “Characters banished or murdered early in one version emerge victorious in another. Each play stands alone as a complete drama. Together, they form an unprecedented portrait of who people are under pressure, and the way their true colors show in the end.”

“Then on Saturdays, the audience takes control as they decide who will wear the cloak,” the site continued. “Their choice determines in real-time which version will be played out during that performance.”

To coincide with new details emerging about the show, The Traitors shared a new ad showing longtime host Claudia Winkleman swearing in the West End show’s new host, Mohammed.

“You have been chosen to take this game to the West End,” Winkleman told Mohammed in the new ad. “Eight shows a week, no retakes, no edits, no mercy.”

“Is there an interval?” Mohammed humorously interrupted, mentioning he might need a show intermission to visit the bathroom.

In a new post shared on Instagram by The Traitors’ U.K. version, Mohammed expressed his enthusiasm about taking part in the show.

“I couldn’t be more delighted to be joining such an original and wildly ambitious show,” the Ted Lasso actor said. “To take on Claudia’s role, as it were, is not just a privilege but. areal challenge as an actor – I simply don’t have enough hair.”

'Sister Wives' Fans Spot Major Loophole in New Season 21 Trailer About Kody and Robyn Brown

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:36am

TLC’s first look at Sister Wives Season 21 promises major drama, dropping a bombshell that could completely reshape the upcoming batch of episodes.

In a new Instagram clip, shared on September 13, Meri Brown, Christine Brown Woolley, and Janelle Brown claim their ex-Kody Brown and his wife, Robyn, will no longer filming with the rest of the family. But before fans could process the apparent exit, seasoned viewers began poking holes in the show’s clever editing.

Instead of revealing a permanent departure from the network, eagle-eyed viewers argue that the teaser’s framing conceals a clever production shift. One that will allow TLC to drum up maximum intrigue without actually cutting ties with its most controversial couple.

In the new clip, Meri stated, “There have been a few changes.” Janelle added, “Kody and Robyn will not be filming with us anymore.”

Christine added, “I don’t know what it means. I have no idea.” Janelle stated, “I was flabbergasted, really, when I got the news.”

However, fans believe they’ve uncovered the missing link between what the women have stated and what the show will be doing. Instead of moving forward without the series’ most controversial stars, they believe there’s a loophole TLC is using to draw fans in.

One fan wrote in the comments of the TLC post, “No longer filming with us anymore could just mean they will no longer film group settings or speak with the other wives in any way at all. It doesn’t mean they aren’t on the show anymore. I really cannot see Kody letting go of the attention, fame and money. Unless TLC kicked them off, they bring a good amount of additional storyline and variety to the show. It would be a bad move to remove them from the show.”

Another fan penned, “I think this means that R and K will still be on the show, just not film anything with the other wives.” A third fan noted, “Does this just mean they are no longer filming in group settings? That’s what I’m getting from this.”

A fourth fan concluded, “I think this is a play on words. They won’t film with them but they will be filming separately. I don’t for a second believe those two would give up Sister Wives.”

Sister Wives Season 21 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC. The series streams the next day on HBO Max.

‘Next Gen NYC’ Fans Need Spike Lee’s Son Jackson Full-Time After He Hurls a Lemon at Liam’s Head

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:34am

Spike Lee’s son Jackson Lee may have intevertendly just thrown his hat into the ring for a full-time spot on Bravo’s Next Gen NYC — and, naturally, he did it by throwing a lemon at Liam Obergfoll’s head.

The bizarre moment came as Liam was talking to Ariana Biermann, and Jackson apparently decided the conversation needed a little citrus-fueled intervention. It was chaotic, hilarious, and, according to fans, exactly the kind of reality TV the show needs more of.

While hurling produce at your friend’s head isn’t exactly the traditional path to a Bravo contract, fans have already reached a consensus: Give Jackson a full-time spot.

Jackson, who has appeared on Next Gen NYC as Liam’s friend, quickly became a fan favorite after the chaotic incident. He’s made only a handful of appearances on the show, primarily during scenes with Liam and their mutual friend Kendall White. But if fans have their way, his lemon-launching moment in the Season 2 finale could be the beginning of a much bigger role on the Bravo series.

One person who shared the video on Threads wrote, “Jackson was taught to Do the right thing” and tagged Spike Lee.

Meanwhile, another commenter on X wrote, “Wait because if this is really Spike Lee son, why is he letting that nobody even talk to him like that..? Why was he not main cast… I’m going to get annoyed.”

Several people only learned during the lemon-throwing incident that Jackson is Spike Lee’s son, making the already-ridiculous scene even funnier for viewers.

Jackson throwing that lemon right on Liam’s face was so awkward 😬 #NextGenNYC pic.twitter.com/4vYnNlSYu9

— Queens of Bravo (@queensofbravo) September 11, 2026

“Learning thats spike lee son is so funny,” one person wrote on X.

Another added, “Award winning reality tv like fym spike lee son is his twin and HILARIOUS. Give me the next season NOW.”

“I watched the entire season not realizing Jackson was Spike Lee’s son until I read some comments,” another person wrote on Threads.

Honestly, a show built largely around the children of famous people could do worse than making Jackson a main cast member — especially after Brooke Shields’ daughter Rowen Henchy joined the cast during Season 2.

Because if Jackson can turn one lemon into this much fan demand, imagine what he could do with a full season.

‘70s CBS Sitcom, Ranked Among the ‘Greatest TV Shows of All Time,’ Featured a 12-Year-Old Who Later Walked Away From Hollywood

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:08am

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was one of the most popular sitcoms of the 1970s, following newsroom producer Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) and her coworkers and friends. But the series also featured a young child actress in a recurring role.

Lisa Gerritsen played Bess Lindstrom, the daughter of Phyllis Lindstrom (Cloris Leachman) in 10 episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The 12-year-old made her debut on the CBS sitcom in the premiere episode, “Love is All Around,” on Sept. 19, 1970.

Gerritsen’s character was smart and precocious—the opposite of her self-absorbed, eccentric mother. She also called her mother “Phyllis” instead of “mom” and formed a friendship with Mary and fellow neighbor Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper).

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a dream gig for any actor,  let alone a pre-teen. Rolling Stone once ranked the series among the greatest television shows of all time, writing that the sitcom was “the gold standard for ensemble comedy, blending sparkling dialogue with unexpected heart and a cast of actors who seemed born to trade punchlines with one another.”

RELATED: ‘Mary Tyler Moore’ Episode Featured a Rare Cameo by Johnny Carson

Gerritsen already had several acting credits on her resume before The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She appeared in The Odd Couple, The Doris Day Show, and Bonanza as well as the short-lived My World and Welcome to It.

By the time she appeared on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Gerritsen was famous enough to score a cover photo on the May 1971 issue of TV Guide with a feature story titled, “Can a child actress lead a child’s  life?”

An April 1970 Times Daily column noted that Gerritsen began acting at age eight. “She started her career in plays, then her family hired a drama coach and an agent began looking for TV roles,” the outlet shared, adding that “somewhere between TV appearances, Miss Gerritsen managed to break into movies in Airplane as Burt Lancaster’s daughter.”

CBS Photo Archive / Getty Images

After The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Gerritsen went on to appear alongside Leachman in 24 episodes of the spinoff sitcom, Phyllis.

Her final acting credit came in 1978 on the TV series Insight, just one year after Phyllis was canceled. Gerritsen was just 20  years old when she walked away from Hollywood.

Decades later, she remains out of the spotlight. A Chicago Tribune reporter in 2000 tried to track down Gerritsen by calling Moore’s old production company and contacting the Screen Actors Guild, Actors’ Equity and AFTRA. The reporter found that Gerritsen worked at a software company in the 1990s. She also married  John Rustan in 2000 and has one son, Jonathan. At age 68, Gerritsen lives a private life in the  San Francisco area, according to Medium.

While she was once one of the most promising young actresses of her era, Gerritsen bowed out just as she was beginning to transition into more adult roles. Decades later, fans can look back on her catalog of work with nostalgia—and wonder what might have been.

Goldfish's New Cracker Collection Is a First for the Brand—And It's Starring 2 Classic Flavors

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 8:01am

Snacking on Goldfish crackers is about to be a whole lot more fulfilling.

As health trends like protein and fiber-maxxing remain steady, the iconic goldfish-shaped cracker has taken note and is launching a handful of new varieties aimed at satisfying both cravings and lifestyle goals this fall.

This morning, the beloved Pepperidge Farm snack brand announced the upcoming store debut of an entirely new line and a revamped collection of whole-grain crackers set to hit shelves later this season. Each collection brings two flavors, meaning Goldfish fans are about to find four new snacks smiling back at them.

Goldfish Debuts New Protein Cracker Collection in 2 Classic Flavors, Revamps Its Whole Grain Line

“Protein has become a bigger priority for many families, whether it’s after school, between activities or on the go,” Tiphanie Maronta, senior vice president at Goldfish Crackers, shared in a statement. Maronta explained that the new recipe is the brand’s “way of meeting that need with a snack that’s both delicious and familiar,” suggesting the cracker recreates the “iconic Goldfish experience people love” while adding more protein.

And when Goldfish says more, the company means it.

According to a fact sheet shared directly with Parade, the new Goldfish contain 6 grams of protein per serving—double that of one serving of its classic crackers.

From what we’re told, the new protein crackers will be available in two popular flavors: Cheddar and Pizza, each launching in 6.6-oz pouches for a suggested retail price of $3.99 starting this October.

Goldfish is releasing new protein crackers with 6 grams of protein per serving this October. Debuting in two classic flavors: Cheddar and Pizza.

As we teased earlier, protein isn’t the only macro Goldfish is counting, as the family-favorite baked cracker brand looks to appeal to consumers seeking more fiber in their diet with its “new and improved” Whole Grain line (which typically contains more fiber than refined grains).

What exactly was changed in the recipe was not immediately clear, as each serving still contains 12 grams of whole grains, but we do know that it’s heading to shelves around the same time and in the same 6.6-oz bags (for the same suggested retail price of $3.99) as the higher protein Goldfish and in two flavors:

  • New and improved Cheddar Whole Grain flavor
  • The brand’s first-ever Pretzel Whole Grain

Goldfish’s debut protein line and new and improved whole-grain recipe are expected to be on shelves at Walmart and other grocery stores in the coming weeks, before expanding to retailers nationwide in early 2027 (prices may vary). Which are you trying first? Let us know in the comments!

'Bachelorette’s Zac Clark Sparks Fan Outrage With Video of Runners Wading Through Floodwaters

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 7:59am

The Bachelorette alum Zac Clark gave fans an unexpected look at race day when he shared video of runners wading through flooded streets during a New Jersey half marathon.

Clark completed the Paramus Racefaster Half Marathon in 1:40:42 and finished third in his age group, but the flooded course quickly became the bigger story. In the video he shared on Instagram, Clark can be seen gripping a railing as other runners do the same while navigating rushing floodwaters. “Bro, this is nuts,” he says as water swirls around the runners, reaching nearly waist-deep in some sections of the course.

The wild footage prompted plenty of reactions, including from The Bachelorette alum Kaitlyn Bristowe, who joked, “I should have come with a tube.” Another commenter added, “& a few life jackets,” while others quipped, “I thought you were showing us a waterslide video at first” and, “And you ran a 1:40 [laughing, crying emoji] that’s wild.”

But the jokes were few and far between, with many commenters expressing concern for the runners’ safety and criticizing both the organizers and participants for continuing the race under the conditions.

“Just finished this, and jokes and perseverance aside, the organizers 100% needed to call this race. So unsafe and I hope no one got hurt,” one person commented on Clark’s post.

Another wrote, “Race promoter should never get another insurance policy for an eventful. You should never let people into waist deep water like this for a running race, that is absolutely insane.”

Reactions were similarly divided on a CBS post shared to X, with some people blasting the runners and organizers while others expressed admiration for those who managed to finish. “I dont want a cent of public [funds] to go to rescuing idiots from situations that could have been easily avoided. Attention seeking morons!” one person wrote.

Another took a more sympathetic view, writing, “That’s serious dedication! Running through flooded streets takes incredible determination, but safety should always come first.”

The race unfolded as heavy rain and thunderstorms brought significant flooding to parts of the Northeast on Sunday. Areas of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut saw intense downpours, with some locations recording several inches of rain as the National Weather Service issued multiple flash flood warnings.

Costco's Grab-and-Go Find Is a 'Dunkaroos but Protein' Lunchbox Hero for Any Age

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 7:26am

With school back in session, packing lunches and after-school snacks is part of the daily routine again. Anything that’s easy to grab, filling enough to hold everyone over, and doesn’t require prep can quickly earn a permanent spot in the fridge.

That’s especially true when one option works for just about everyone, and Costco’s latest refrigerated find checks a lot of those boxes. It’s easy to toss in the lunchbox or grab for a protein-packed snack before practice. Even for grown-ups, it’s an easy meal without cooking, chopping, or assembling a pile of extra ingredients.

The new find was spotted by @thecostcomama, who shared it in a Sept. 12 Instagram video and described it in a way that pretty much says it all: “Dunkaroos but protein.” Once you see what comes in each individual tray, the comparison makes perfect sense.

View this post on Instagram Skinny Butcher Chicken Dippers With BBQ Sauce at Costco

The Skinny Butcher Crazy Delicious Chicken Dippers With Barbecue Sauce come in a four-pack for $9.99, or about $2.50 per tray, though prices can vary by location. Each tray holds five grill-marked, nugget-shaped chicken breast patties with rib meat, plus its own container of smoky barbecue dipping sauce. The item number is #2065582, which you can use to check availability at a local warehouse.

The chicken is fully cooked and can be eaten hot or cold, which makes the dippers convenient for packed lunches and snacks. Each 3.5-ounce serving has 145 calories and 11 grams of protein, and the chicken is gluten-free.

If you prefer them warm, it takes under a minute. Remove the sauce container, then microwave the chicken for up to 30 seconds, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. The sauce cup has a foil lid and should stay out of the microwave.

The trays also make a simple starting point for a fuller lunch without much extra work. Pair one with carrot and celery sticks and a little ranch, then round things out with fruit, cheese, or crackers, and lunch is packed.

At roughly $2.50 per tray, the price adds to the appeal. It’s tough to find much at a drive-through for that price these days, let alone a ready-to-eat option with the chicken and dipping sauce already included.

For busy school days, after-school practices, or those afternoons when grown-ups realize they forgot to pack their own lunch, Costco’s Skinny Butcher Chicken Dippers make it easy to have a protein-packed option waiting in the fridge.

1965 Mike Nesmith Song, Rejected by The Monkees, Was Rescued Years Later by a Rising Country-Rock Band

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 7:11am

In 1965, Mike Nesmith wrote a song that showcased his distinct country-rock vision long before the genre had a name.

However, when he presented “Propinquity (I’ve Just Begun to Care)” to the producers of The Monkees television series, record producers flatly rejected the tune. That rejection sidelined the song for five years, until another band stepped in to give it new life.

The tune, which never reveals its title in the lyrics, was first penned by Nesmith ahead of being cast as the wool-hat-wearing member of the television band turned music icons. He first recorded a demo of the song in 1966, and later recorded it in Nashville in 1968 reported Glorious Noise.

Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider assembled The Monkees to cash in on a Beatles-style sitcom. However, Nesmith (an accomplished musician, along with Peter Tork) pushed back for real artistic control. He pushed relentlessly for himself and bandmates Micky Dolenz, Tork, and Davy Jones to play their own instruments and perform their own original material on their albums instead of relying on outside studio professionals.

Network executives finally gave in by the release of the band’s 1967 album, Headquarters. For the first time, the four members played most of the instruments themselves and took control of their own musical direction.

Nesmith placed his own compositions on the Monkees’ albums from their first release. But songs like “Propinquity” were routinely pushed aside in favor of polished, radio-ready pop from outside songwriters.

The song eventually got its due when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded it for their 1970 album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy. The song wasn’t released as a single, but was included on the hit LP, which featured the track “Mr. Bojangles,” according to Billboard. The song was listed on a compilation of Nesmith’s best songwriting credits.

Nesmith released his own version a year later with the First National Band on their third album, Nevada Fighter. That solo recording allowed him to arrange the song exactly as he had envisioned it six years earlier.

Howver, Nesmith’s version remained unreleased until The Monkees Missing Links, Volume 3 came out in 1996. While fans had to wait three decades to hear his early studio attempt, the archival release proved just how complete Nesmith’s original 1960s country-rock vision really was.

Though it took half a decade to find its audience, “Propinquity” remains a pivotal chapter in Nesmith’s early songwriting career. From its 1965 rejection to its 1970 revival, the song showed that while pop TV executives looked for immediate hits, Nesmith wrote music built to last.

The Simple Bedtime Tradition Many Families Have Forgotten (And Why It’s Worth Bringing Back), Child Psychologist Explains

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 6:32am

Bedtime in a household with children can be hectic. Caitlin Slavens, BAACS, MC, R Psych, a registered psychologist and the clinic owner and co-founder of Couples to Cradles Counselling, knows first-hand how often child psychologist bedtime advice is sought-after. She says it’s common for parents to find themselves desperate for advice on how to stop nighttime battles. Step one: Give everyone some grace (yourself included).

“Nobody is really at their best at bedtime,” Slavens tells Parade. “Kids are tired and have less ability to manage disappointment, while parents are usually running on whatever patience they have left and likely have a to-do list after the kids get into bed.”

For kids, she says “bedtime” is code for “stop the fun and separate from the parent.” Cue the requests for an extra glass of water, “just one more story” and another trip to the bathroom.

“Some of that is stalling, of course, but under it there’s often a child asking for a bit more control or closeness before the day ends,” she states.

It’s natural to want to turn on the TV or iPad and hope it settles your kid. Screen-free bedtime ideas may feel like a bridge too far, but it can be helpful to tap into them.

“I’m not anti-screen, but screens can make bedtime harder simply because they’re so engaging,” the psychologist says. “Asking a child to turn off a show or game and immediately go to sleep is a very abrupt transition. A screen-free activity gives their brain a chance to come down gradually.”

Slavens is a particularly big fan of one screen-free and simple bedtime tradition that families have forgotten about, calling it an oldie but a goodie. She reveals it ahead, along with other ways to connect with your kid at the end of the day (even when you’re exhausted).

The Lost Art of Oral Storytelling and Reflection

Oral storytelling for kids has many benefits, including cognitive development and child-caregiver connection. However, Slavens stresses that parents didn’t wake up one day and decide oral storytelling for kids wasn’t valuable anymore.

“Parents just found easy ways to fill every quiet moment,” she explains. “There’s always another show, podcast, video or text to respond to, and family schedules are packed. Making up a story requires us to stop, be a little silly and come up with something without already having a script in front of us.”

Slavens says it’s part of a trend that she’s witnessed over the last couple of decades: The decline of “unstructured time.”

“We’ve lost some of the natural pauses that used to occur, where it used to be filled with family stories, the chance to ask odd questions or chat about their day,” she tells Parade.

In some cases, parents have replaced unstructured time with tutoring, athletics and other activities designed to promote child development. They aren’t bad, but ironically, children’s cognitive development and storytelling also go hand in hand.

“It’s a lot of mental work to follow a story,” the psychologist explains. “They need to remember what happened earlier, notice cause and effect, predict what might happen next and try to understand what different characters know or feel. All of these pieces help boost language, memory, attention and social awareness.”

The Psychology: Why Bedtime Is the Best Time To Connect

One reason to include storytelling in a bedtime routine for kids is that this time of night is naturally suited for connection.

“During the day, lots of conversations with our kids are around telling them what to do—get dressed, find your shoes, finish eating, hurry up, slow down and so on,” Slavens explains. “At bedtime, a parent is often sitting still, close by and not asking the child to perform or accomplish anything.”

She often hears this common scenario: A parent tucks a child in, turns off their lamp and is halfway out the door. The child suddenly says, “Mom, I don’t think Ava wants to be my friend anymore.”

“This is the same child who said school was ‘fine’ at dinner,” Slavens points out. “At bedtime, typically, the house is quiet, you’re sitting beside them, and no one is looking for a missing shoe or clearing plates. This may be the first real chance they had all day to tell you what has been bothering them.”

Spark Their Imagination: 3 Ideas To Start Bedtime Stories

It can be hard to jump into a story from scratch. Before you start oral storytelling for kids at bedtime, it’s important to “set the scene.”

“We want to keep the opening simple and give the child a place they can picture right away,” Slavens says. “‘Once upon a time, in a small cabin at the edge of a snowy forest, a child heard three knocks on the window.’ Then, add a few details, such as a fire popping, wet boots by the door or the wooden porch floor creaking.”

Still stumped? Slavens shared a few more oral bedtime story ideas to get you started.

1. The unexpected visitor

The premise: “A tiny fox wearing a red scarf appears outside the cabin because it has lost something important.”

“Let your child decide what is missing, then have the child in the story help search for it in two or three places,” Slavens suggests. “This works because the story has an immediate problem to solve, but your child still gets to decide whether they are searching for a key, a baby fox or a bag of enchanted cookies.”

2. The midnight stuffie mission

The premise: “After everyone is asleep, your child’s favorite stuffed animal discovers that one of the toys is lost and needs help finding it.”

“Use actual details from the bedroom, such as crawling beneath the dresser, checking the toy box or following a trail of blocks into the hallway,” Slavens states. “Children can add to this story because they already know their house and what’s in and around it.  They don’t have to invent an entire new scene in their mind before anything exciting happens.”

3. The day that took a strange turn

The premise: “Choose one everyday moment from your child’s day and change one detail. Maybe the puddle at recess turns out to be an underground portal or the missing glove is found holding a special card in the school library.”

“Ask your child what happened next and follow their version, even if it makes no sense to you,” Slavens shares. “This works because they have a frame of reference to start from, and it gives them an easy way to revisit part of their day without being asked another round of questions about how school went.”

Related: We Asked 3 Child Psychologists for the Best Question To Ask Kids at the Dinner Table, and They All Said the Same Thing

3 Questions To Ask Instead of ‘How Was Your Day?’

Besides storytelling, using bedtime connection questions (that aren’t “how was your day?”) can help you bond with your child one more time before they head to dreamland. Slavens shares a few of her favorites.

1. “What was one thing that was good about today, and what was one part that you wished had turned out differently?”

The highs-and-lows bedtime routine is similar to the rose-thorn question at dinnertime.

“A child might go to bed still reflecting on the incident when no one had saved them a seat at lunch, even if they had not mentioned it,” Slavens states. “By discussing one positive thing and one difficult thing, the difficult situation gets an opportunity to be worked through out loud.”

Remember, as a parent, it’s not your job to change what happened—which is good because that’s impossible. But Slavens says you can respond by saying something like, “That must have been difficult. Let’s come up with a plan tomorrow.”

“That might be all that is needed for the child to stop worrying about it for the night,” she shares.

2. “What was the funniest thing that happened today?”

You can even tack this one onto No. 1 about highs and lows. (People who do rose-thorn sometimes refer to the “funniest thing that happened today” as the “feather.”)

“You usually receive more than just ‘fine’ since you’re not asking them to go over the whole day, merely to recall one particular moment,” Slavens says. “You might hear of someone falling off a bench at lunch or the teacher making the mistake of calling a classmate by the wrong name, after which the rest of the story is typically developed.”

3. “What was the name of the person you spent the most time with today?”

Slavens loves that this question gives kids a simple starting point.

“For example, they might say ‘Noah’ and then go on to tell you what game they played at recess, what Noah said at lunch and the reason why they might not be sitting together tomorrow,” she notes.

How To Start Small (If You’re Exhausted)

You may be too exhausted to do a whole song-and-dance bedtime routine for kids. But you don’t need much to connect with a child at bedtime. Slavens shares a few simple tips that are actually big steps in the “connection direction.”

1. Choose one question to ask

Seriously. You don’t have to ask all three questions above, or the endless ones you saw in a social media reel last night. One question works, even if the reply is the classic, “fine.”

“If the reply is ‘fine’ or ‘I don’t know’, then you can say ‘OK’ and stop there,” Slavens says. “There’s no need to force a meaningful conversation out of every bedtime session—your role is simply to leave space for your child to speak should there be anything on their mind.”

2. Use a three-sentence story

You don’t need to be Roald Dahl to engage in oral storytelling for kids at bedtime.

“Try saying, ‘Once there was a little bunny who hoped to get to the bakery before it closed, but a sleeping dragon was blocking the road,'” Slavens suggests. “Then ask your child what the [it] should do. You only need to set up the first situation, after which your child can proceed.”

3. Do the same thing with that character again tomorrow

Yep. Bring the bunny (or whatever you chose) back the next day. But add some plot twists. For instance, maybe he loses one of his boots or finds a goose sitting on his bicycle.

“Since you already know where he lives and what sort of creature he is, you just need to come up with one new difficulty,” Slavens explains. “Your child might even take charge and tell you what the bunny should do next.”

Rock Legend Cheetah Chrome Dead at 71: Family, Legacy and More

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 6:06am

Cheetah Chrome, the punk rock legend best known as the co-founder and guitarist of the iconic ’70s band Dead Boys, has died at 71.

The band, who are mourning the loss of not only their bandmate but also a “beloved friend,” confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media.

“We are incredibly sad to announce the news of the passing of our beloved friend and bandmate Cheetah Chrome. Cheetah was a true original, an architect of the punk rock movement. A one-man hurricane tearing up the musical landscape with his feral guitar riffs and manic energy. Beyond all that, Cheetah was also just a really sweet guy that loved rock-roll,” the caption reads in a post shared on Dead Boys’ official Instagram, along with a black-and-white photo of the guitarist.

Moreover, Dead Boys also expressed their “deepest condolences” to the bereaved family and friends, as well as the fans who have supported the late musician and been touched by his music.

“His music lives on and will continue to inspire others for generations to come. We ask for privacy during this difficult time. Godspeed Cheetah. Tony, Chris, Mark and the entire Dead Boys family,” the band shared as they said goodbye to the longtime member.

Born in Cleveland on Feb. 18, 1955, the Dead Boys guitarist, whose real name was Eugene Richard O’Connor, is survived by his wife Anna O’Connor and their 14-year-old son, Rogan.

As for Cheetah Chrome’s cause of death, neither his family nor his bandmates have publicly disclosed a medical reason.

Who is Dead Boys’ Cheetah Chrome?

Before rising to fame as one of the pioneers of the punk rock scene, Chrome began his music career by joining the proto-punk band Rocket From the Tombs in late 1974, where he served as a guitarist.

Among their significant shows in Cleveland in 1975 was a performance opening for the punk rock band Television and singer-songwriter Patti Smith, later recognized as the “Godmother of Punk.”

Unfortunately, the band had a relatively short run and disbanded later that year.

The band’s breakup paved the way for Chrome and drummer Johnny Blitz to join Stiv Bators, Jeff Magnum and Jimmy Zero in forming what became the Dead Boys.

The group moved to New York, where they released their debut album, Young, Loud and Snotty, in 1977. The album featured their classic track “Sonic Reducer,” which became their breakthrough hit and signature song.

Dead Boys eventually called it quits in 1979.

With his passion for music, Chrome pursued solo projects and performed with bands like the Stilettos, as cited by Rolling Stone.

He also formed Cheetah Chrome and the Casualties, where they performed at local shows around New York City.

After pursuing a series of solo projects and collaborations with fellow musicians, Dead Boys reunited on multiple occasions, with one of their most significant reunions was the 40th anniversary of their debut album, Young, Loud and Snotty in 2017.

According to Metal Injection, Chrome had a plan to have the band’s 50th anniversary tour in 2027.

'Sister Wives' Season 21 Trailer: 2 Cast Members Exit Show in Shocking Shake-Up

Mon, 09/14/2026 - 6:00am

The Sister Wives Season 21 trailer revealed that two cast members—Kody Brown and Robyn Brown—are exiting the show in a shocking shake-up.

On Monday, Sept. 14, TLC released its first look at the new season of Sister Wives, which premieres on Oct. 4.

All three of Kody’s exes, Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown, reacted to Kody and Robyn’s decision to leave the show.

“There has been a lot that has happened,” Janelle teased, as Christine admitted, “I don’t know how to process it all. I’m just going to be honest.”

Meri then acknowledged, “There have been a few changes,” after which TLC displayed a message to viewers: “After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show.”

Meanwhile, Meri echoed, “I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show.

As the Season 21 trailer continued, Christine said, “I don’t know what it means. I have no idea,” and Janelle confessed, “I was flabbergasted, really, when I got the news.”

Janelle, Christine, and Meri also met up to melt down jewelry from Kody—although it’s unclear what they did with it afterward.

Additionally, Janelle spoke out against accusations her ex made regarding the sale of their Flagstaff, Ariz., property, Coyote Pass.

“Kody and Robyn openly accused me of trying to cut Meri out of the land deal,” she explained. “Yeah, Kody tells Meri it’s my fault, and I’m like, ‘Why are you believing Kody?!'”

Elsewhere in the trailer, Christine and her husband, David Woolley, answered questions about their sex life while playing a couple’s game.

Janelle also introduced a new man in her life, telling producers, “His name is Peter. There are no red flags. Peter is so nice.” Peter then proclaimed of Janelle, “She’s a wonderful woman.”

Meanwhile, things between Christine and David seemed strained as they attended a joint therapy session. He admitted, “When you’re with me, you’re Christine Woolley. But it’s that other side, she becomes Christine Brown. I’m coming to the point where it’s either me or them.”

Although it wasn’t featured in the trailer, TLC also teased, “The Browns return to Flagstaff to honor Garrison’s memory at a memorial held at an animal shelter, creating a space for reflection, remembrance, and healing.” Kody and Janelle’s son, Garrison Brown, died in May 2024 at 25.

Sister Wives Season 21 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC and streaming the next day on HBO Max.
