1988 Record-Breaking Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 38 Years Ago

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 4:02am

Michael Jackson was no stranger to musical success by 1988 – the prolific musician first rose to international fame as a child, precociously leading his family’s band, The Jackson 5.

Their first venture to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart came in 1970 with “I Want You Back,” quickly followed by “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” In 1972, Jackson’s first solo single topped the chart, “Ben.” More hits followed, and in 1988, Jackson made history with “Man in the Mirror.”

The soulful anthem about internal reflection resulting in positive changes for the world around you, with Jackson vowing to stop being selfish and focus on helping others, made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart on March 26, 1988, remaining there for two weeks, and spending a total of 17 weeks on the chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

But what made the accomplishment such a stellar feat was the fact that Jackson had previously already hit the top of the chart three other times with songs from the same album. 1987’s Bad, a follow-up to the mega-hit Thriller, was edgy and fresh, showing fans a cooler side of the relatively clean-cut Jackson.

With “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” preceding it, “Man in the Mirror” marked the first time an artist topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with four separate songs from the same album.

Jackson would go on to break his own record in July of 1988 when “Dirty Diana” also made it to the top of the chart. In 2011, Katy Perry tied with Jackson’s record after “Last Friday Night” hit the number one spot, her fifth single from Teenage Dream to do so

Bianca Censori Turns Heads in Skintight Catsuit at Kanye West Concert

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 3:07am

Bianca Censori painted the town baby blue, cheering on her man at one of his concerts this week.

The brunette beauty who is known for her bold, barely-there style recently shared a photo to her Instagram Stories, offering fans a peek into her recent nightlife.

Ahead of Ye’s show at SoFi Arena in California, Censori posed for a photo with designer and stylist Gadir Rajab. Looking almost mannequin-like, Censori stands with her body stiff and gaze looking off-camera. The 31-year-old Australian architect wears a skintight baby-blue catsuit paired with stilettos and a sleek bun.

Rajab is wearing a black shirt and shorts with boots, and he has his left arm around Censori’s waist.

Recently, Censori has been trending in the headlines for making her music video directorial debut with visuals for West’s single “Father” featuring rapper Travis Scott, and dressing in head-to-toe conservative wear to appear in court for West's Malibu mansion court case, for which he was ordered to pay $140,000 to his former contractor.

Earlier this month, Censori debuted a spring look of pastels and micro shorts, looking confident outside a studio amid buzz about a potential separation from West.

Reports of Censori preparing to leave Ye have been circulating online, beginning for the second time in February of this year. The couple denied similar rumors in early 2025, with their representatives denying the claims, People reported.

There have also been rumors about Censori getting ready to release a tell-all memoir. But this is just gossip so far, as neither this rumor, nor the one about her leaving Ye a second time, has been confirmed.

Since then, the rapper has issued an apology ad in The Wall Street Journal, sat for an interview with Vanity Fair, and sought help in rehab for bipolar disorder.

Quote of the Day: Jimmy Carter on Nature and Connection

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 2:45am

President Jimmy Carter has had such a positive legacy thanks to all of his humanitarian work and overall politics and ideals. Born in 1924, he went on to become the 39th president of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. He’s known very favorably for his life after his presidency—and because of his advocacy work in diplomacy, Carter was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2002. He wrote many books and gave many speeches, letting people inside his brain with his words. That’s why one of his remarks makes for a great quote of the day.

Carter’s presidency itself was riddled with serious issues, such as the 1979 Iran hostage crisis and inflation. This led to disapproval that lost him reelection, according to Britannica. He did have successes throughout his time as president, but at the time, they were overshadowed by these bigger issues.

President Carter took up a lot of philanthropic and humanitarian causes. For example, per Britannica, Carter’s work with Habitat for Humanity International helped raise awareness and popularity for the organization. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, launched the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in 1984, which was an annual weeklong building project through Habitat for Humanity. He and Rosalynn volunteered during this week every year until 2020.

Throughout his presidency and for the rest of his public life, he tried to be a man of the people. He was a family man and had several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He died on Dec. 29, 2024, after choosing to spend his remaining days receiving hospice care at home with family starting in February 2023, according to The Carter Center.

Jimmy Carter was a lover of the outdoors, so today’s quote fits nicely with his passion for nature.

Quote of the Day by Jimmy Carter

CanvaPro/Parade

“Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries.”

The quote of the day comes from President Jimmy Carter’s 1988 memoir, An Outdoor Journal: Adventures and Reflections. And the book is exactly what the title says: President Carter’s reflections on nature, hunting, his time outdoors and more (along with a retelling of his childhood and life).

Right before this quote, Carter states that contentedness can be achieved either alone or with others, and he’s happy that we don’t have to really pick between the two definitively. He describes that sometimes, like in the fall and winter, he prefers just to be alone with his two bird dogs. But then other times, he loves being with his wife and having "uninterrupted conversation about all kinds of things.” He also states that hunting can still be enjoyable with family and friends, with everyone sharing in the highs and lows of the activity.

He then shares, “Outdoors people constitute a close fraternity, often international in its membership.” And then he follows up with the quote: “Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries.”

Deeper Meaning of Jimmy Carter’s Quote—Connection and Love of Nature

President Carter not only loved the outdoors but also was a supporter of the arts. As the National Gallery of Art posted on Jan. 9, 2025, he was an oil painter and worked to support artists through legislation and advocacy. So it makes sense that he’d put his love of both the arts and nature together to make a (pretty good) point.

While everyone has different tastes and opinions, especially when it comes to music and art, you can still connect with people through those mediums, having debates, long conversations and experiencing shared admiration. And similarly, a love of nature can create a mutual bond. Where politics or society can—and often does—effectively split us up, a shared enjoyment of nature can bring people together.

So with that said, Carter is noting that appreciating the outdoors is something that can be healing to the individual self, but can also “transcend” those divides and connect people. Nature can really be healing, just like other forms of entertainment, and more people should take note of that.

‘Wednesday’ Star Jenna Ortega Sparks Backlash Over Rumored Boyfriend — Here’s What We Know

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 2:21am

Jenna Ortega is getting mixed up in past controversies concerning a band’s frontman named Elias Rønnenfelt

So, who is Elias Rønnenfelt? He’s the lead singer of a punk rock group called Iceage and, apparently, Ortega’s rumored boyfriend. So, what is all this neo-Nazi garbage? It’s related to Rønnenfelt’s past, which is reportedly coming back to haunt him and, now, Ortega.

Here’s the deal.

Dating rumors began swirling around the Wednesday actress, 23, and the Danish musician, 34, back in October 2025. Following Ortega’s appearance in the frontman’s music video for "Mona Lisa," the two have been seen on multiple occasions, including getting “lovey-dovey” in Denmark, making out in Copenhagen, and chilling at a pub in Dublin.

That would be all fine and well if the musician hadn’t been linked to Nazism. History, aka a Pitchfork interview from March 2021, reveals Rønnenfelt used “quasi-fascist imagery” in the start of his career and “curated a festival that included an act with a racist name.”

He told Pitchfork he regretted those actions, saying that he and his band have no “sympathies or leanings” toward right-wing ideologies. “When a lot of these allegations came out we were dumbfounded,” he said. “Now I understand that we hold a responsibility on our shoulders to make it clear what we stand for.”

Beyond the interview, Reddit users claim Rønnenfelt enacts physical violence on fans at his shows, breaking their phones and kicking them in their chests. Because of such alleged actions, fans on social media are calling out the Death of a Unicorn star, pointing to possible hypocrisy.

In late 2023, Ortega walked away from the Scream franchise following co-star’s Melissa Barrera’s firing for remarks she made about the Israel-Hamas war, per The Hollywood Reporter. Now, seemingly dating a guy whose past is shrouded in Nazi imagery and violence, the actress is facing severe backlash.

At this point, nothing, from the relationship between the two to the allegations concerning Rønnenfelt, has been confirmed.

1989 Power Ballad Named the Longest No. 1 Hit Became an Anthem of Unconditional Love

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 1:54am

Bon Jovi released their passionate power ballad “I’ll Be There For You” 37 years ago today, on April 4, 1989. The timeless classic appearing on the glam metal band’s 1988 album, New Jersey, which followed 1986's Slippery When Wet, added momentum to their previous smash hit, “Bad Medicine.”

The Lyrics

Written by lead singer Jon Bon Jovi and the band’s lead guitarist Richie Sambora, “I’ll Be There For You” sounds like a romantic love song, but it’s actually a breakup tune, with the vocalist singing about parting ways with someone they care about deeply.

Admitting he’s suffering from a broken heart due to a breakup, Jon Bon Jovi sings the words, “You left me drowning in my tears / And you won't save me anymore.” He then begs for a second chance, hoping to swoon his love interest by delivering promises throughout the high-powered sing-along chorus.

I'll be there for you / These five words I swear to you / When you breathe / I wanna be the air for you / I'll be there for you / I'd live and I'd die for you / I'd steal the sun from the sky for you / Words can't say what love can do / I'll be there for you,” the chorus, which features mesmerizing harmonies, goes.

Enjoying success, “I’ll Be There For You” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also rose to No. 5 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. It also made waves in Canada, landing at No. 2 on the Top Singles Chart and in Ireland, where it reached No. 6.

“I’ll Be There For You” served as the third single from the band’s fourth album and became the longest-running song to hit No. 1 in the U.S. in the year of its release, lasting five minutes and forty-one seconds, according toStereogum.

The Circle Tour

Though Jon Bon Jovi is known for his frontman role and signature vocals, Sambora actually took over the singing for “I’ll Be There For You” during some of the shows for the band’s run of The Circle Tour.

“I’ll Be There For You” was Bon Jovi’s final Billboard Hot 100 hit of the ‘80s, but the band as well as the lead singer, who went on to pursue a solo career, continued to release many hits in the years following such as “Bed of Roses,” “Keep the Faith,” “It’s My Life,” and many more.

1987 Soft-Rock Theme for a Comedy Cult Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 39 Years Ago Today

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 12:40am

39 years ago today, on April 4, 1987, Starship’s soft rock classic “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” became a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it stayed for two weeks.

Co-written by Diane Warren and Albert Hammond, the successful power ballad served as the band’s third and final No. 1, following hits “We Built This City” and “Sara.” Before that, Starship had earned success under its previous two names, Jefferson Starship and Jefferson Airplane

“Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” was performed as a duet between original band members Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, and released a year before Slick — who, at 47, became the oldest woman to earn a No. 1 in the U.S. — left the group. The recording finds the two bandmates taking turns singing a verse before coming into a soaring chorus.

The Lyrics

Lyrically, the song is all about finding that one romantic love interest that takes your breath away. So much so, you’re willing to fight for them through thick and thin.

… Let them say we're crazy, I don't care about that / Put your hand in my hand, baby, don't ever look back,” the lyrics go before the chorus hits with: “… And we can build this dream together / Standing strong forever / Nothing's gonna stop us now / And if this world runs out of lovers / We'll still have each other / Nothing's gonna stop us / Nothing's gonna stop us now, oh-whoa.”

Clocking in at four minutes and twenty-seven seconds, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” served as Warren’s first No. 1 hit. She would go on to secure more hits throughout her career, with credits behind songs like Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” and Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” among others.

According to Stereogum, the inspiration behind “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” came from Hammond, who had gone through a divorce and felt that his prior marriage was keeping him from being with someone else.

Made for the Movies

Along with its success as an ‘80s anthem about love, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” also served as the theme song to the cult classic film, Mannequin, starring actors Andrew McCarthy, who played the role of the character Jonathan Switcher, and Kim Cattrall, who played the role of Emmy Hesire.

The accompanying music video for “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” features members of Starship as well as select footage from the 1987 Michael Gottlieb-produced movie. The film earned a nomination for Best Original Song at the 60th Academy Awards for “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”.

In addition to taking the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” which appears on Starship’s 1987 album, No Protection, went on to become the band’s best-selling single, also topping the chart in several other countries, including Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

Freeman shared what would become her final update to her Instagram followers in December 2025.

“In the last few weeks I’ve run the gamut of emotions: denial, anger, fear, all the above. However, I’ve never felt defeated,” she noted. “There has been some tough days (two rounds of chemo down … YUCK! However, I still looked pretty. Teeheehee).”

Freeman is survived by her children, Amber and Shane, as well as her mother, brothers and sisters.

Comedy Star Adam W Says One Common Filming Problem Finally Pushed Him Into Tech

Sat, 04/04/2026 - 12:27am

Adam W has spent nearly a decade making people laugh with a smartphone. Now he’s building the tools that go inside it.

The 33-year-old award-winning content creator, who has amassed over 65 million followers across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, just entered the tech space with Double View, a dual-camera app that captures vertical and horizontal content in a single take.

"I've filmed the same sketch twice in one day more times than I can count," Adam W said in a press release shared Thursday, April 2. "Once vertical, once horizontal. Same setup, same performance, twice the time. At some point, I just thought, why is this still the process? That's why I made Double View."

But the app wasn't built with just creators in mind. "My mom films everything sideways and then wonders why it looks off," he said. "People at concerts are flipping their phones around the whole time. Parents at their kid's game are just trying to get one good clip. None of those people should have to think about format. That's who Double View is really for."

It’s a natural move for someone who learned every part of content creation by doing it himself. In a 2021 interview with Casting Networks, Adam W said he started out with no team, no budget, and no auditions coming his way. His first viral sketch racked up 400,000 views overnight and convinced him to go all in. He moved to L.A., worked side jobs for five months, and bet everything on his phone.

That phone has since turned into a serious business. Forbes reported in June 2025 that Adam W earned $16.5 million over the previous year, with major brand deals including T-Mobile, Old Spice, and the NFL. The outlet placed him on its Top Creators list alongside MrBeast, Addison Rae, and Druski — and his YouTube channel currently has more subscribers than Saturday Night Live.

He's also created viral sketches with big names like Jack Black, Terry Crews, and Jason Derulo, starred in and produced a short film that was accepted at Cannes, appeared on Club Random with Bill Maher, and helped launch education programs in Bali through a partnership with Karmagawa and the Bali Children's Project.

"I'm known for comedy," Adam W said. "But if I'm also the guy who made 'shoot it twice' a thing of the past, I'm cool with that."

The app is available now on the App Store with a free trial. Unlimited access costs $1.99 per month or at a discounted annual rate.

1979 Hit Ranked Among ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’ Became a Timeless Anthem

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 11:01pm

Blondie’s song “Heart of Glass” has maintained its iconic status for decades, earning a spot among the “Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Released in 1979, the song’s unique mix of punk rock and disco music captured the spirit of an era and has since become a timeless anthem.

Formed in 1974 in New York, the three-piece band, fronted by Debbie Harry, became pioneers of the new wave and pop rock genres, introducing early hits “In the Flesh” in 1976 and “Denis” in 1978.

However, it was “Heart of Glass” that became their breakthrough, earning them their first major international hit and securing spots on multiple global charts.

A single from their third studio album, Parallel Lines, the hit track made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 3, 1979. Weeks later, it climbed to the No. 1 spot, making this Blondie’s first number one single in the United States.

Beyond the song's popularity in the U.S., “Heart of Glass” also topped the UK Singles Chart as well as charts in other countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Written by Harry and Chris Stein, the lead guitarist of Blondie, it was inspired by The Hues Corporation’s song “Rock the Boat.”

Before officially settling on the title, the band considered several options, including their initial working title “Once I Had a Love” as well as “The Disco Song” and later “Pain in the Ass,” until they realized that it wasn’t a smart idea.

During the lead vocalist’s guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she told the host that they officially scrapped the title when they signed a record contract.

When Fallon asked who came up with the new title, Debbie Harry revealed it was their guitarist.

“I think it was Chris,” she shared, “And I think it was just his wisdom or his brilliance and he just said, ‘Well, say ‘Heart of Glass’” she recalled, and the rest is history.

Now, it is recognized as a timeless musical masterpiece, landing No. 138 on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Best-Selling Classic Novel Was Ranked ‘Darkest Book of All Time’ on Goodreads

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 10:57pm

All readers out there know that there are plenty of books exploring intense and dark themes, whether they have to do with violence, abuse of any kind, manipulation, or anything else. But some novels take dark and distressing stories to a whole new level.

For people looking for a book with a deeply impactful story exploring themes that might be a little too topical these days, the well-known classic 1984 by George Orwell took the top spot on Goodreads' "Darkest Books of All Time" list.

The novel was published in 1949 and was Orwell's final completed book before his death in 1950. The story is set in a dystopian future where a superstate called Oceania is controlled by a dictator known as Big Brother, backed by the Party and the Thought Police.

The ruling group constantly surveils the citizens and watches for anyone with radical thoughts that don't align with Big Brother's beliefs. The people who don't conform to Big Brother's ideas disappear, while everyone else is controlled through extensive propaganda and manipulation of records to fit the Party's desired narrative.

1984 has been praised for decades for its satirical takedown of totalitarian government and censorship, and the book has been banned in many places around the world since its release for its radical ideas.

It's not a huge surprise to see Orwell's classic book top this list on Goodreads, as it's a novel that presents a strongly depressing picture of how a government can easily dissolve into authoritarianism and extreme control.

One of Orwell's other novels, another thought-provoking satire book called Animal Farm, is also a classic still heavily praised over 80 years after it was first published.

Right below 1984 on the Goodreads list are American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and many more recognizable classics from over the years.

1979 Hit Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 10:50pm

In 1979, a film arrived that would forever change the landscape of science fiction and horror.

Alien, directed by Ridley Scott, has been ranked among the best movies of all time by Rotten Tomatoes, reinforcing its status as a true cinematic landmark.

Set aboard a commercial spacecraft, the film follows a crew who encounter a deadly extraterrestrial life form after responding to a mysterious signal. What begins as a routine mission quickly turns into a fight for survival, as the crew members are hunted one by one in the confined, claustrophobic environment of the ship.

At the center of the story is Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, whose performance helped redefine the role of women in action and sci-fi films. Ripley emerged as one of the genre's most iconic characters, setting a new standard for strong, complex female leads.

Alien stood out for its ability to blend genres, combining the tension of a horror film with the expansive world-building of science fiction. Its slow-building suspense, eerie atmosphere and groundbreaking creature design made it unlike anything audiences had seen before.

"The biggest challenge was how we designed the beast. Most horror films fail because of terrible monsters," Scott told BKMAG. "Some are so bad that they become amusing. They become cult films. A cult film is a good way of saying 'It's a pretty bad movie, but I kind of like it with a beer.'"

The film was also a commercial success, launching a long-running franchise and influencing countless films that followed. Its impact can still be felt today, from modern sci-fi thrillers to horror movies that rely on atmosphere and psychological tension.

More than four decades later, Alien continues to be celebrated for its innovation and lasting influence. Sequels from directors including Jean-Pierre Jeunet, David Fincher, and James Cameron have carried on its legacy, but Scott isn't ruling out future Alien films.

"I still think there's a lot of mileage in Alien, but I think you’ll have to now re-evolve," Scott told the Los Angeles Times. "What I always thought when I was making it, the first one, why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That's the thing to question — who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea, I think."

Its inclusion on Rotten Tomatoes' list of the greatest films only reinforces what audiences have known for years, it's not just a classic, but a defining achievement in cinema history.

1973 Classic Was No. 1 Hit 53 Years Ago Today

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 10:50pm

In 1973, Freddie Hart released a song that would become a highlight of country music.

His single "Super Kind of Woman" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart on April 3, 1973, becoming his fifth chart-topping release. The song arrived during the peak of his career and furthered his consistent run of success.

Written by Jack Lebsock, the track centers on a devoted relationship, highlighting admiration and true love through its lyrics. Its heartfelt message, told with Hart's relaxed voice, was exactly what country fans loved at the time, helping it attract a wide audience.

The song's success came soon after Hart's breakthrough as an artist. With hits like "Easy Loving" and "My Hang-Up Is You," he had already established himself as a respected voice of country music, and this release continued to increase that momentum.

Hart continued to regularly appear near the top of charts throughout the early 1970s. Rather than relying on a single hit, he consistently delivered songs that won over listeners' hearts, reinforcing his place in country music.

In a 2003 interview, Hart explained, "I've been playing [guitar] since I was about five years old." His passion for music began in his youth and has flourished since, giving him an advantage that made his work particularly special.

More than five decades later, "Super Kind of Woman" remains an integral piece of Hart's most successful years, reflecting the sincerity and beauty of country music in the 1970s.

Dolly Parton, 80, Bares Her Toned Abs in a Denim Crop Top and Breaks the Internet

Fri, 04/03/2026 - 9:54pm

Dolly Parton may have just broken the internet with her latest steamy post.

The 80-year-old country legend turned heads on Friday, April 3, with a new Instagram carousel marking the launch of her Joleans collection with Good American, a denim line owned by Khloé Kardashian and inspired by what she describes as a lifelong love of the fabric.

The opening shot is the one that stopped scrollers in their tracks. Parton posed against a rustic wooden backdrop in a fitted denim crop top layered under an open shirt, paired with high-waisted jeans and a red bandana detail. A glimpse of her toned midriff and her signature bouncy blonde hair got fans talking.

View this post on Instagram

"I've always believed clothes can hold memories," she wrote in the caption. "Denim's been with me through every chapter of my life. It's comfortable, it's confident and it never goes out of style." She also spoke to the spirit behind the collection itself: "We took a little bit of my past and gave it new life for today. When someone puts these on, I want them to feel bold, beautiful, and completely themselves."

The rest of the carousel didn’t disappoint—other photos featured head-to-toe denim with a tied shirt and statement belt, a sleek black printed blouse with crisp white shorts, and a red patterned top with dramatic flared jeans. And you bet fans flooded the comments.

“Now THIS is how you do a jeans ad,” one fan wrote, while another gushed, “Are you seriously real,” with three heart emojis.

“GOOD GOLLY MISS DOLLY,” another exclaimed.

A fourth said, “I hope this is what I look like when I’m 80.”

And if the crop top photos weren't enough to remind everyone just how much Parton gives, her recent philanthropic news certainly seals the deal. The CEO of what is now officially Dolly Parton Children's Hospital in East Tennessee, Matt Schaefer, recently described her donation to the institution as nothing short of extraordinary.

"What I can tell you is that she has made a generational and transformational commitment to Children's and its mission, and that commitment is something that goes beyond our wildest expectations, that is beyond generous, and will be a lifeline for this mission for now and for years to come," he said.
