U.S. Skier Lindsey Vonn Gets Emotional on Important Day

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 1:23am

U.S. Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn shared a deeply emotional message as she honored her late mother on what would have been her birthday, offering fans a rare and personal look into the memory that continues to guide her, especially during one of the toughest moments of her life.

The 41-year-old athlete posted a short video on social media showing a heartfelt exchange between her and her mother, Lindy Anne Lund.

In the clip, Vonn asks, “Mom, how proud are you?”

Her mother responds with powerful simplicity: “I am the proudest I’ve ever been my entire life.”

In her caption, Vonn expressed how much she wished her mother could still be with her.

“Happy birthday Mom 🤍🙏🏻 Wish you could have been here this year… I don’t know if you would be more proud now than you were at the 2018 Olympics when I got bronze… But I would really love to know,” she wrote.

View this post on Instagram

The message comes as Vonn continues recovering from serious injuries sustained during a recent Olympic crash.

Her words reflected both grief and gratitude. “I bet you would have lifted me up in the hospital and made everything better,” she added. “You always gave me the most amazing perspective and I’m trying to keep that going, especially now.”

Lindy Anne Lund passed away in August 2022 after battling ALS. Her influence on Vonn’s life goes far beyond this single memory. The skier has often spoken about her mother’s strength and resilience, especially after Lund suffered a stroke while giving birth to her, leaving her permanently disabled.

The emotional tribute arrives during a challenging time for Vonn. The Olympic medalist is still recovering from a major crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where she suffered a complex tibia fracture and a broken ankle. The accident required multiple surgeries and marked a painful setback in her return to competitive skiing.

Despite the physical and emotional toll, Vonn has remained determined. She recently shared a video of herself doing pull-ups while still using crutches, signaling progress in her recovery.

“First set of pull ups post surgery… slowly getting there!” she wrote in a separate post.

Vonn has repeatedly credited her mother for shaping her mindset, not just as an athlete, but as a person. Even when facing injuries or setbacks, she learned to keep going, inspired by her mom’s unwavering strength.

In a past interview, Vonn explained how that perspective stayed with her: knowing her mother could not do the physical activities she loved pushed her to make the most of every opportunity. That mindset is still evident today as she works through recovery.

As she focuses on healing, Vonn has made it clear that she will decide her future in skiing on her own terms. For now, her priority is getting back to normal life while holding onto the lessons her mother taught her.

And in moments of doubt, one sentence still echoes louder than anything else: “I am the proudest I’ve ever been.”

Beloved '90s Actor, Who Nearly Won Primetime Emmy Award, Turns 68

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 1:11am

Few television actors of the 1990s left a mark quite like James McDaniel.

The beloved star, best known for his standout role on NYPD Blue, celebrates his 68th birthdayWednesday.

Born on March 25, 1958, in Washington, D.C., McDaniel built his career with consistent stage and screen work before having his breakthrough with one of the most beloved dramas of the 90s and early 2000s. With a background in theatre, he held a grounded presence and emotional depth that helped him stand out in a competitive television industry.

His defining role came in 1995 when he joined NYPD Blue as Lt. Arthur Fancy. At a time when television was beginning to take on more complex social themes, McDaniel's performance added both authority and nuance to the series. His portrayal of a commanding officer navigating leadership and racial controversies within the precinct became one of the show's most respected elements.

The role earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, placing him among the top television actors of the era. While he did not take home the award, the recognition solidified his reputation as a powerful and reliable performer.

Beyond his breakthrough, McDaniel continued to appear in a variety of projects across television, film, and theater. Whether in guest roles or supporting parts, he consistently brought the same level of control and authenticity that defined his earlier success.

Now at 68, his work remains closely tied to one of television's most influential dramas, with a legacy that still resonates among audiences who remember the impact of '90s television at its peak.

1965 Smash Hit Was No. 1 61 Years Ago Today

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 1:11am

A defining song of country music’s golden era hit a major milestone today.

In 1965, Buck Owens and his band the Buckaroos landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart with “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail,” a track that would go on to become one of the most recognizable songs of his career.

Related: 1967 Heartbreaker Was No. 1 59 Years Ago Today

Released just weeks earlier in December 1964, the song moved quickly up the charts, eventually spending five weeks at No. 1. It also crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 25, which was an impressive feat for a country artist at the time.

Related: 1974 Conway Twitty Classic Hit No. 1 52 Years Ago Today

The track perfectly captures the Bakersfield sound Owens helped pioneer—a stripped-down, high-energy alternative to the smoother Nashville style dominating country music in the early 1960s. Built around twangy electric guitar, a driving rhythm and tight vocal harmonies, the song had an immediacy that felt both raw and radio-ready.

The idea for the song came from an unlikely place. Owens later recalled for the book "The Buck Owens Collection: 1959-1990" that he was writing with songwriter Harlan Howard when inspiration struck after spotting an Esso gas station slogan: “Put a tiger in your tank.” That phrase sparked the central image of the song—a metaphor for being in over your head in a relationship—and the rest came together quickly.

Related: 1977 Glen Campbell Hit Song Was No. 1 49 Years Ago Today

“I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” became Owens’ sixth No. 1 hit and helped cement his status as one of country music’s biggest stars of the decade. It also remains one of the clearest examples of the Bakersfield sound, a style rooted in California that emphasized electric instrumentation, sharp rhythms and a more rock-influenced edge.

Over time, the song’s legacy only grew. In 1999, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, recognizing its lasting impact on country music and its role in shaping the genre’s evolution.

Owens would go on to score 21 No. 1 hits on the country chart and later introduce his music to an even wider audience as co-host of the long-running TV show Hee Haw. But decades later, “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” still stands as one of his signature songs. It is a burst of energy from an era when country music was finding a new, electrified voice.

1975 Classic Breakup Anthem Was a No. 1 Hit 51 Years Ago Today

Thu, 03/26/2026 - 12:56am

On March 25, 1975, the catchy breakup anthem “Bye Bye Baby” by Bay City Rollers reached No. 1 on the UK charts, marking a defining moment in pop music history.

Now, 51 years later, the song still stands as one of the biggest hits of the 1970s and a symbol of the band’s global fame.

Originally recorded by The Four Seasons in 1965, the track found new life when the Bay City Rollers released their version a decade later. Their upbeat and energetic take quickly captured fans, helping it stay at the top spot for six weeks and sell over a million copies.

At the time, the band was at the center of “Rollermania,” a fan craze that saw young listeners around the world dress in tartan and follow the group’s every move. The success of “Bye Bye Baby” pushed the Rollers to a level of fame that many compared to The Beatles.

Bay City Rollers’ Rise to Pop Dominance

By early 1975, the Bay City Rollers had become one of the biggest pop acts in the world. Their classic lineup, featuring Les McKeown, Eric Faulkner, Stuart “Woody” Wood, Alan Longmuir and Derek Longmuir, delivered a string of hits that dominated charts and airwaves.

“Bye Bye Baby” was part of their successful album era, following the release of Once Upon a Star. The single didn’t just top charts in the UK, it also reached No. 1 in Ireland and Australia, proving the band’s wide appeal.

The song’s success helped make it the best-selling single in the UK in 1975, a major achievement in a competitive year for music. It also cemented the Rollers’ reputation for creating fun, sing-along pop tracks that fans couldn’t forget.

Even today, the track remains one of the band’s most recognizable songs. Music critics and fans often point to it as the ultimate Bay City Rollers hit; simple, emotional and easy to sing along to.

More than five decades later, “Bye Bye Baby” continues to resonate with listeners. Its theme of saying goodbye in a relationship is easy to understand, even for young audiences. The lyrics are straightforward, and the melody is bright, making it both emotional and fun.

While it started as a 1960s track, the Bay City Rollers transformed it into something fresh for a new generation. That ability to reimagine music helped the band stand out during a crowded era of pop acts.

The Rollers’ impact goes beyond one song. Over their career, they sold between 120 million and 300 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music groups of all time. Hits like “Shang-a-Lang,” “Saturday Night” and “Give a Little Love” kept fans engaged throughout the decade.

Despite lineup changes and challenges over the years, their music has remained timeless. Even after the passing of lead singer Les McKeown in 2021, the band’s legacy continues through performances and new releases led by surviving members.

“You make my 5’10 broad-shouldered self feel so beautiful,” one wrote.

“I LOVE THE WAY YOU OWN YOUR BODY AND RESPECT WHAT IT CAN DO FOR YOU!! Yes, ma’am!!” another Instagram user said.

“Where were you 30 years ago? Girls need to know what healthy looks like,” a commenter added.

In addition to this, fans were left speechless by her fearless display and captivating energy.

“Seriously!!! No Words!!! Just that I frickin Love YOUUU!!!” one wrote.

“My goodness, respectfully of course,” a fan noted.

A commenter also echoed the same thought, noting, “Speechless!!! I NEED OXYGEN.”

This is Maher’s third time with Sports Illustrated. The first was for the publication’s September 2024 digital issue cover, followed by the 2025 print feature.

In a previous interview, the Team USA rugby sevens bronze medalist shared that she was labeled “masculine” due to her strong athletic build**, but as she grew older, she embraced her unique features and has been breaking stereotypes and championing self-empowerment.

“I was always like, you know, called masculine or whatever," the 29-year-old powerhouse center told SI in 2024. "But I never felt that way. But I don’t think you’re going to bully the girl who could probably beat you up in a rage. I love that [rugby] showed me what I can do. It showed me how capable my body is and it’s not just like a tool to be looked at and objectified.”

Few television stars of the 1990s left an impression quite like Marcia Cross.

The iconic actress, best known for her roles on Melrose Place and Desperate Housewives, is celebrating her 64th birthday.

Born on March 25, 1962, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Cross built her career through steady work in television before becoming a household name. She studied acting at Juilliard, giving her a strong foundation that showed in the depth and control she brought to every role.

Her first major breakthrough came in the early '90s with Melrose Place, where she played the calculated and unforgettable Dr. Kimberly Shaw. The role quickly turned her into one of the most talked-about characters on television, helping define the drama-heavy style that dominated the decade.

Years later, she reached an even wider audience with Desperate Housewives, portraying Bree Van de Kamp. Her performance stood out for its precision, balancing sharp comedic timing with emotional restraint. The role earned her major recognition, including one Satellite Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards as part of the ensemble.

Beyond her biggest roles, Cross maintained a steady presence in television, appearing in projects like Everwood, Quantico and other series that showcased her range. While she never chased constant spotlight attention, her work consistently reflected a strong sense of craft and commitment.

In recent years, Marcia Cross has taken a step back from major television roles, although she still makes occasional appearances. She has also been open about her personal life, including her recovery from cancer, using her platform to raise awareness and connect with fans.

In an interview with Suzee Behind the Scenes, she shared that despite her recent battles, she isn't planning on ending her career. "Now, I'm excited to go out and work again, because it's who I am," she remarks.

Now at 64, Cross remains a star beloved for bringing several of television's most recognizable characters to life. Her performances continue to resonate, especially among audiences who grew up watching the rise of primetime dramas in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Lisa Kudrow Reveals Why She Thought ‘Friends’ Might Never Make It to Air

Wed, 03/25/2026 - 10:42pm

While the beloved NBCsitcomFriendsended up being a massive hit, Lisa Kudrowwasn't sure if it would ever make it to air.

In a March 2026 interview with Vanity Fair, Kudrow noted that she was cast as her Friends character Phoebe Buffay while she was appearing as the waitress Ursula on Mad About You, which had a seven-season run until 1999. She said that she felt grateful to have Mad About You, which starred Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt, to fall back on because she wasn't sure Friends would be picked up.

"When I shot the pilot of Friends, I thought, 'Yeah, I mean, this is a good show, but good shows don't get picked up all the time,'" said Kudrow during the Vanity Fair interview. "If there's any hope of me being able to stay on Mad About You after the pilot doesn't get picked up or they pick it up for, you know, 12 more episodes and then that's it, like after this fails, because there's no telling what's gonna happen, something can be great and still it gets canceled."

She then noted Friends aired for nine seasons until 2004. She said that the writers of Friends decided to have Ursula be Phoebe's estranged twin sister while the NBC shows were airing at the same time.

"I was preserving Mad About You for myself. Friends found that they had to justify why this same face and voice is gonna be on at eight o'clock on Mad About You once in a while," said the actress in the March 2026 interview. "They had to cope with that and incorporate Ursula into Friends. And I mean, look, they're good writers. So if you're a good writer, there are no problems. There's just, you know, really interesting things that come out of adapting, but I was thrilled, you know, that I could still be Ursula."

Lisa Kudrow Revealed She Began Watching 'Friends' After the Death of Matthew Perry

In a July 2024 interview on Conan O'Brien's podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, Kudrow shared that she wasn't all that interested in watching Friends until her castmate Matthew Perry's 2023 death at the age of 54. Perry famously played Friends character Chandler Bing.

"I used to not be able to watch it at all. I mean I'd see it on and be like mildly interested and then I'd see me and say that's enough of that. I can't bear it and then, well, listen after Matthew died, I could start watching the show again because it wasn't about me. It had to do with him for some reason and so I have started watching Friends," explained Kudrow.
