As a preventative cardiologist at Vital Heart & Vein, Dr. Patrick Kee, MD, Ph.D has heard well-meaning, health-conscious patients on blood thinners explain a morning routine that sets off an alarm in his head. And it's one he can't press snooze on: "A green smoothie, a brisk walk and a handful of supplements that promise to make their heart as strong as a marathon-running ox," Dr. Kee states. "But if they're one of the millions of people taking blood thinners, their 'natural' supplement routine might actually be a recipe for trouble."

As a medication, blood thinners don't fit the wellness world's standards for "natural," but they're often necessary.

"The two most common types of blood thinners are anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications," says Dr. Randy Gould, DO, a cardiologist with Manhattan Cardiology in NYC and contributor to labfinder.com.

Dr. Gould states that people may take anticoagulants (such as Eliquis, Xarelto or Coumadin) because of a clot in the leg (deep vein thrombosis) or an irregular heartbeat (such as atrial fibrillation).

"These types of blood thinners help to dissolve a blood clot or prevent a clot from forming and possibly prevent a stroke," Dr. Gould adds. "Other people may be taking antiplatelet medications such as aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), ticagrelor or prasugrel if they have coronary artery disease and had a recent stent placement or are recovering from a stroke."

A vitamin-rich diet can support efforts to keep your diet as healthy as possible, but getting nutrients in supplement form can have pitfalls.

"Many supplements have real biologic effects, and when you layer them on top of blood thinners, you can tip into either bleeding or clotting without realizing it," warnsDr. Joseph Allencherril, MD, a cardiologist with UTMB's Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.

Avoid these risks by not combining these two supplements if you're on blood thinners.

Don’t Combine These 2 Supplements if You’re Taking Blood Thinners

Cardiologists warn against combining high-dose vitamin E (above 400 IU per day) and fish oil if you're on blood thinners. "If you take both of these together, you are increasing your risk of bleeding," Dr. Gould states.

Wait...why and how? "Fish oil and high-dose vitamin E both have blood-thinning capabilities," reports Dr. Ameen Person, MD, chief of cardiology with Kaiser Permanente.  "They both thin the blood by causing your platelets not to function as well. I like to think of platelets as 'plugs' that travel through your bloodstream and fill in any holes that become open in your vessels, like the way a plug may fill the hole in a tire to stop it from leaking."

And Dr. Kee reminds us that blood thinners are already doing the heavy lifting to keep your blood in liquid form, so adding high-dose vitamin E and fish oil makes for a triple threat that opens the floodgates.

"When you combine all three, you’ve essentially removed all the 'brakes' from your blood’s ability to clot," Dr. Kee says. "This can lead to spontaneous nosebleeds, blood in your urine or stool or—more seriously—bleeding in the brain, a cerebral hemorrhage, if you take a tumble."    

Also, more broadly, supplements aren't as tightly regulated as medications, and they don't have standardized ingredient lists.

"The amount of active ingredients can vary widely between brands and batches, and proprietary blends can make dosing challenging," Dr. Allencherril shares. "If you are on a blood thinner, treat supplements like medications—avoid starting new ones casually, and definitely flag anything new before procedures or dental work."

Are There Benefits of Fish Oil and Vitamin E?

Yes, these nutrients have benefits, including for your heart and blood health. "The benefits from fish oil concerning heart health are that it helps lower triglyceride levels, which are fats found in the body," Dr. Person says. "Vitamin E helps protect your cells from damage that are caused by free radicals."

Dr. Person explains that free radicals are molecules that can increase your risk of certain diseases and accelerate aging because of cell damage, so vitamin E's protective benefits matter.

 "This cell protection can prevent damage to blood vessels and cells that are found in the immune system," Dr. Person notes.  

Yet, you don't need to overdo consumption. Most people over 14 years old benefit from 15 milligrams (22.5 IU) of vitamin E daily. The tolerable upper intake level for adults is 1,000 mg (1,500 IU). However, people on blood thinners may not tolerate this much vitamin E.

"The bleeding concern rises further at 800 to 1,000 IU per day and above," Dr. Allencherril notes. As for fish oil, most adults benefit from 250–1,000 mg combined of EPA and DHA (fish oil's active omega-3s).

How To Meet Your Vitamin E and Omega-3 Needs Without Supplements

Cardiologists suggest reaching into your fridge and pantry before your medicine cabinet. "Focus on a 'food first' approach," Dr. Kee says. "If you eat a piece of salmon and a handful of almonds, you get the heart benefits without the risk of turning your blood into a non-stop fountain."

He suggests aiming for two servings of fatty fish a week, such as salmon, mackerel or sardines.

"For vitamin E, you can get plenty of this without hitting the 'high dose' danger zone by snacking," Dr. Kee says. "Try almonds, sunflower seeds, spinach and vegetable oils."

After the FBI released surveillance footage on Tuesday, Feb. 10 showing a possible suspect outside of Nancy's Tucson home, the GMA hosts took to their Instagram Stories the following morning to help spread the word and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Roberts, Strahan, and Stephanopoulos all shared the same message to their respective Instagram Stories on Wednesday morning, which read, "Praying for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie. Anyone with information: please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff's Department 520-351-4900.

Champion didn't add any text to his post, and instead shared the ABC News Instagram post showing the footage of the "armed individual" outside of the home.

ABC News' Deborah Roberts has also been consistently speaking out on social media to help spread the word about Nancy's disappearance and send her support to Savannah, who works closely with her husband, Al Roker, on Today.

"Let’s hold up Nancy Guthrie in the deepest prayer, along with her heartbroken children, Savannah, Annie, Camron as we hope for her safe return," Roberts said in an Instagram video message on Friday, Feb. 6, which was "liked" by not only Roker, but also GMA anchor Lara Spencer.

Roberts also shared a still shot from surveillance footage to her Instagram page on Tuesday, writing, "The image is chilling and haunting. And hopefully helpful. Bring her home."

Kelly Rowland, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and member of the landmark girls group Destiny's Child, celebrated an exciting birthday on Feb. 11 as she turned 45.

To mark the special moment, Rowland shared video and pictures from an elegant new photoshoot in which she rocked a pair of light-colored jeans, some jewelry, and nothing else.

In the first photo, Rowland's stunning smile was on full display as she leaned against a chair without a shirt on. Her hair was styled in soft curls, while she rocked diamond earrings and glamorous makeup.

The Super Bowl literally just ended with a Bad Bunny Halftime Show that fans are still talking about days later. That hasn’t stopped fans from weighing in on the fact that Wallen has the highest odds. The Instagram account Country Cast shared information about Wallen, and fans shared their thoughts in the comments.

“Yes would love Morgan doing it your a good artis love your music my Morgan ❤️❤️❤️,” said a fan. One fan chimed in to add, “Morgan should, he’s a really good artist.”

Another fan stated, “He would rock it!🔥 Every concert is amazing, so much energy [sic]. I'm all for it! 💯.”

Many fans felt that Wallen wouldn’t even agree to do it. “I doubt he would ever do this anyway unless things change!” said a fan. One fan stated, “Morgan would decline."

Other fans, though, are not here for Wallen and don’t believe he will perform at the Super Bowl. “NFL isn’t having that. I’d like to see it,” declared a fan. A different fan expressed, “Not as long as Jay-Z is in charge,” while another fan shared, “JayZ. Won't allow it.”

The Jay-Z comments refer to his company, Roc Nation, which works with the NFL to select who performs at the Super Bowl halftime event each year.

Wallen has been through a slew of controversies in the past few years, including being caught on video using a racial slur, being arrested and charged for throwing a chair on the rooftop of a Nashville bar, and also for a DUI, to name a few.

The country singer also broke Saturday Night Live's COVID-19 protocols in 2021, leading to his being axed as a host. When he hosted last year, Wallen made an abrupt exit from SNL after his second performance, opting out of the curtain call and raising eyebrows with a social media post that said, “Get Me to Gods country.”

If Wallen is chosen, however, it would make it the first time a country singer performed at the Super Bowl since Shania Twain in 2003.

Earlier this month, we reported on Britney Spears raising a few eyebrows with her money moves.

Well, this week, she's getting nothing but applause. As the Hollywood Reporter notes:

"Britney Spears has sold off some of her rights tied to her catalog, sources confirm to THR.⁠
⁠With the deal, Spears sells off a stake in one of the most iconic catalogs in modern pop music, which includes hits like “Oops!… I Did It Again!,” “…Baby One More Time,” “Gimme More,” “Circus,” and “Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman,” among others. TMZ, which first reported on the news of the sale, suggested it was comparable to Justin Bieber’s $200 million sale back in 2023.⁠"

Multiple outlets (including this one) reported that the princess of pop just sold her entire music catalog. The deal, which included her most-famous hits, “… Baby One More Time,” “Oops! … I Did It Again,” and “You Drive Me Crazy,” was done and dusted on Dec. 30, per Rolling Stone.

Sold to publisher Primary Wave, the exchange was called a “landmark deal” in comments to TMZ. Primary Wave has acquired rights from numerous iconic artists and estates, including Stevie Nicks (2020), Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Prince, The Doors, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Though the exact terms of the deal have not been disclosed, Forbes has done what they do best and thrown out some estimates for us all to envy. And according to the outlet, that “landmark deal” may have more than doubled the “Lucky” singer’s net worth. 

Forbes last estimated Spears to be worth some $60 million, well below the bars set by fellow billionaire musicians like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Rihanna. But with this new payout, which the publication estimates was around $170 million before taxes, that’s a pretty good pay day.

Of course, after paying all the legal fees that went into the deal-making process, Forbes estimates a $70 million take-home for the singer, but that still rockets Spears’ net worth to $150 million, more than doubling her orignial worth.

Oh, yes, then there's the IRS.

“Britney Spears’ tax deficiency and penalty totaling about $721,000 is proper, the IRS told the US Tax Court as it defended its adjustment of flow-through income from her business and a disallowance of certain deductions in 2021,” Bloomberg reported on Feb. 3.

But even after settling all the above, the star is still sitting atop a pile that would make Scrooge McDuck jealous.

So, go on, girl, make that schmoney.

A pair of Oscar winners have joined up to portray sisters in a highly anticipated crime show that brings a series of best-selling novels to life.

The official trailer was just unveiled for Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell's iconic books, which stars Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis — among other big names. With more than 120 million copies from the literary series sold worldwide since the character's 1990 debut, Prime Video's small-screen adaptation marks the culmination of decades of anticipation as the beloved forensic pathologist finally comes to the screen.

Developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff (Barry, Lost), Scarpetta is led by Kidman, 58, as “Dr. Kay Scarpetta.” With skilled hands and an unnerving eye, this unrelenting medical examiner is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn't also her undoing, as Prime Video teased on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The search for Nancy Guthrie has reached its 11th day as the Pima County Sheriff's Department works in tandem with the FBI in hopes of bringing the 84-year-old home safely. Authorities believe that Nancy was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills area, just north of Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday, Feb. 1.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the FBI released some images and videos of a subject that was seen at Nancy's front door the night that she went missing. The image appears to show a male carrying a gun in a holster as he approaches the door while wearing a ski mask and a pair of gloves. The subject in the photos is also carrying a backpack.

TMZ is reporting that the FBI is tracking three specific things from the aforementioned photos: the gun, the backpack, and the gloves. Sources connected to the case tell the outlet that authorities are contacting manufacturers and retailers in order to see if they can find out when these items may have been purchased—and by whom.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the FBI released a statement on its socials in regard to the ongoing investigation.

"This morning, numerous FBI agents are conducting an extensive search along multiple roadways in the Catalina Foothills area related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation," the statement read. "We are asking the media and motorists to follow all traffic laws and to remain especially cautious when passing law enforcement personnel near the roadways.
We appreciate the assistance and support we have received from the Tucson community. The FBI continues to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie. You can help by submitting tips to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI."

The FBI was seen going door-to-door in the neighborhood of Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie, who lives with her husband, Tommaso Cioni, on Tuesday evening. According to various videos posted by media personnel on the ground, agents appeared to be asking residents questions and searching around the outside of their homes.

On Wednesday, similar searches were taking place, this time in Nancy's neighborhood.

The actress, 45, is being treated at UCLA Health as she awaits an organ match, TMZ reported. The outlet revealed that Phillips is "back on dialysis."

In 2017, Phillips received a kidney donation from a friend. However, that kidney has since failed.

"Time is of the essence," a rep for the actress told TMZ.

The Almost Famous star previously revealed she was born with "small kidneys."

At the time, her rep revealed that her lifelong vegan diet was an "effort to heal her body."

"She recently found out one of her friends is a match and is optimistic that she will have a transplant soon," the source told People in February 2017.

Following her successful transplant, ex-husband Danny Masterson took to social media to share his gratitude.

"My lady has been slowing dying for the past 7 years of an incurable kidney disease. She was given the gift of an encore by a tall angel. Our daughter will have a mother," he wrote alongside a photo from her hospital recovery, per People. "We do not take lightly how incredibly fortunate we are. 100% successful transplant. Now the real work begins for her to silence any chance of rejection. Our deepest gratitude to a perfect transplant team. And a life owed to a tall drink of water. Sláinte!"

It looks like Dancing With The Stars fans may be getting the spin-off series they've been hoping for after all.

Speculation began last week when several current and former DWTS pros shared they would traveling to New York City for an undisclosed project.

While fans immediately started guessing the show could be announcing a spring season or the return of DWTS: Juniors, entertainment reporter and longtime DWTS insider Kristyn Burtt claimed that the show was planning a spin-off competition series to find their next pro.

However, fans were ultimately disappointed when DWTS announced on Tuesday, Feb. 10 on Good Morning America that it is holding its first-ever Dancing with the Stars Con this summer in Palm Springs, California.

While it initially appeared the “Next Pro Dancer” show was not moving forward, blogger and podcaster Reality Steve — best known for spoiling The Bachelor franchise — says the project is still happening.

"I know people were hoping for a DWTS-pro show for today’s announcement. I can confirm it’s happening," he wrote via X late Tuesday night. "Robert Irwin is hosting, 2 of the judges are Mark Ballas and his mom [Shirley Ballas], and the winner will be a pro on next season of DWTS. Announcement is coming soon."

Burtt, for her part, confirmed Reality Steve's information — but noted his tweet was the first time she heard Mark Ballas would be involved with the show. She also told fans that the series would begin filming in Australia later this month.

In a casting call for the series posted by Lissette Pinon, casting manager for McNulty Casting, in October 2025, BBC Studios said it was searching for “exceptional dancers” to compete for a spot as a DWTS pro.

“Looking for standout dancers with world-class technique, star quality, and the ability to light up a stage,” the casting call read. “Ballroom is your foundation, your passion! Show us your full range!”

The casting call also said dancers would be given the opportunity to train with “celebrity partners” and compete at the “highest level.”

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1.

Hours after the FBI released images and videos of a subject they believe may be related to Nancy's disappearance on Tuesday, Feb. 10, some reports surfaced that an 84-year-old woman had been taken to Banner — University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. There were also some unconfirmed reports that the Guthrie family was headed to the hospital.

The hospital has since denied the claims, telling Arizona news station KGUN 9 that Nancy Guthrie was not listed in the hospital's patient directory. There have also been reports that the Pima County Sheriff's Department had confirmed that the flight that some people had seen going to Banner Health was not related to the Guthrie case.

Some social media users said they used FlightRadar24 to track a medical helicopter that went from Rio Rico, Arizona, to Banner Health in Tucson. Some media outlets started setting up outside the hospital, per images shared on X, but cleared out after a short amount of time.

This was going on while authorities detained a man named Carlos Palazuelos in Rio Rico. After about two hours of questioning, a home search, and a car search, authorities determined that Palazuelos wasn't involved in Nancy's disappearance.

"All I know is they showed my in-law a picture of somebody wearing a mask or something and it supposedly looked like my eyes," Palazuelos told the media after he was released. He also said that he was "held against" his will and that his wrists were swollen from being in handcuffs.

Michael Bublé is honoring the legacy of a Canadian sports legend.

The Grammy-winning singer, who hails from British Columbia, Canada, took to Instagram this week to issue a heartfelt message about the death of revered sports announcer Jim Robson, someone Bublé described as "one of my heroes."

Uploading an emotional video to Instagram on Tuesday, Bublé said, "Today I lost one of my heroes," in memory of Robson, who served as the announcer for the Vancouver Canucks for nearly 30 years.

He died on February, Feb. 10, following a "short illness," according to CBC News. He was 91.

"He was the epitome of class and a gentleman, and I think he lived his life that way," Bublé continued, while adding, "As a Canucks fan, as a hockey fan, we've had some bad luck, but in that way, I think we had the greatest, the greatest ever...We're so lucky as fans."

"The legacy he leaves is huge," he added.

Bublé—who is now a part owner of the Western Hockey League (WHL) Team the Vancouver Giants—then took a moment to address Robson directly, first telling him, "Thank you."

"On behalf of the NHL, all hockey fans, Canuck fans, sports fans, thank you for being such a big part of my life," he stated. "You mean everything to me, man. To get to know you, to get to write with you and correspond with you was an honor, not just for me but for my dad and family."

"We are so sorry for the loss for your family, but Jim, you live on forever, man," Bublé said. "I love you so much."

43 years ago today, Bonnie Tyler released the song that would become her personal best-selling tune of all time.

Written and produced by Jim Steinman, the pop-rock icon's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was released on Feb. 11, 1983, cementing her as a powerhouse vocalist. The song, a standout track on her fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night, topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and reached No. 1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, and more. It has sold over 6 million copies worldwide and broken records, surpassing one billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, the track earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1984.

"It is an incredible song. I never get tired of singing it," Tyler said in 2021, per Louder. "Every time I sing it is like the first time. I never would’ve dreamed when it was released that it would sell six million copies worldwide."

BBC even hailed the track the "most epic song ever written" in a 2023 feature.

A longtime Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is once again weighing in on who he believes belongs in the institution — and his latest comments are raising eyebrows.

Speaking on the LegendsNLeaders podcast, Gene Simmons argued that hip-hop artists should not be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“[H]ip-hop does not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Simmons said.

He continued, “Ice Cube and Grandmaster Flash and all these guys are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I just want to know when Led Zeppelin’s going to be in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.”

At another point in the conversation, Simmons added, “Ice Cube and I had a back and forth. And, you know, he's a bright guy. Respect what he's done. It's not my music. I don't come from the ghetto. It doesn't speak my language."

In the comments, one fan observed, "Rock n roll started thru black influence of the blues. That's why they are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame," and another added, "He sounds like an old bozo 😂."

Simmons framed his argument around genre boundaries, saying music categories exist “because it describes an approach.” He described hip-hop as “a spoken word art,” contrasting it with what he considers melody-driven rock songwriting.

This is not the first time the KISS co-founder has targeted rap or hip-hop in interviews. In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Simmons said, “I am looking forward to the death of rap,” later adding, “Rap will die. Next year, 10 years from now, at some point, and then something else will come along.”

The Rock Hall has long embraced a broader definition of rock and roll. Over the years, artists from hip-hop, R&B, pop and beyond have been inducted alongside traditional rock acts. Supporters of that approach often argue that “rock and roll” represents an evolving cultural spirit rather than a strictly guitar-based genre.

After more than a decade-long hiatus, '90s heavy metal band Pro-Pain is back with new music. The announcement was shared via Instagram on Wednesday morning, and the band is excited to let longtime fans in on their upcoming project.

The new album, titled Stone Cold Anger, is slated for release on May 15 and will consist of 10 tracks. Accompanying the album announcement is their lead single, "Oceans Of Blood," which is now available on streaming platforms along with a complimentary video posted to YouTube.

Gary Meskil, frontman and co-founder of Pro-Pain, explained that the themes of the new album and lead single focus heavily on retribution. He acknowledged the growing frustrations of people ruled by corrupt power in recent years, leaving them with a powerful message.

"The frustration among people worldwide regarding the rampant corruption and criminality of their governments has reached a breaking point. Wars are being waged in their names, without any consent, funded by their own hard-earned tax dollars. With rising living costs and inflation eroding the value of money, tensions are rising," Meskil said. "When those in power evade accountability for their actions, it leaves the populace with little choice but to assert their rights and take back control.“
