Deidre Hall is a soap opera icon, and that's why she showed Today's Craig Melvinhow it's done.

Hall, 78, has played Marlena Evans on the NBC/Peacock daytime series Days of Our Lives for 50 years. The Daytime Emmy winner's character has seen endless storylines over those five decades, ranging from being possessed by the devil to having an evil twin. But in a new appearance on Today, the soap opera icon showed host Craig Melvin how she's secured her stardom on the series over the years: Her iconic slap.

"Of all of the storylines that you've been a part of over the years, what I've always enjoyed is your ability to slap," Melvin told Hall. "You're a great slapper."

"Well, thanks," Hall replied, laughing, adding that she "couldn't begin to imagine" how many on-screen slaps she's had over the years.

"It would be one of the greatest professional honors of my life if you could slap me," Melvin told her.

Hall explained how she performed so many slaps over the years, noting that she would "draw my hand back and I'm going to come very close to your face," she explained. "And when you feel that happen, you're going to snap your head."

Does Deidre Hall Plan to Leave Days of Our Lives?

 After 50 years in Salem, the Midwestern town where Days is set, the soap opera icon is making it clear that she has plans to depart anytime soon.

"As long as my key card opens the gate, I'm there. It's my family, I love that place," she said.

It's also quite an accomplishment that the series is still on the air, seeing as several soaps have faded from existence.

"Nobody had done 50 years at that point. The fact that we stayed on the air is a thrill. We kept on going and going and going and I got to stay ... and keep working," Hall added.

Farrell has never legally married, but he did unofficially wed English actress/singer Amelia Warner in 2001, when the pair were on vacation in Tahiti. (They met the year prior at the premiere of Quills, which Warner starred in.) 

"We had a ceremony on a beach in Tahiti that was by no means legal and we knew it wasn't,” Warner told The Sun, via Digital Spy “It was just a thing we did on holiday. We went shark feeding and then we did that. We booked them both on the activities desk at the hotel." 

"It really wasn't this secret wedding that no one was invited to," she continued. "It was lovely, it was silly, it was sweet but by no means was it a serious thing."

They remained “married” for four months before breaking up. Warner went on to marry Fifty Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan in 2013.

Farrell dated model Kim Bordenave from 2001 to 2003 and welcomed their son, James, in September 2003.

Although the child was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome when he was around 2 years old, Farrell waited until 2007 to reveal his diagnosis publicly. "The reason I [did reveal it] was just because I was working with the Special Olympics and they were asking me questions, and I didn't talk about my son [but] I felt like I was betraying him, like it could be misconstrued as shame—which would be terrible, because he's such a celebration," Farrell told Irish talk show host Ryan Tubridy. "He's nothing but a gift," the actor continued. "He's, as far as I'm concerned, exactly the way he should be."

In 2021, Farrell and Bordenave filed for conservatorship of James before his 18th birthday, and in 2025, Farrell revealed that they had made the decision to place their son in a long-term care facility.

“It’s tricky—some parents will say, ‘I want to take care of my child myself’, and I respect that,” Farrell told Candis Magazine.

“But my horror would be, what if I have a heart attack tomorrow, and, God forbid, James’ mother, Kim, has a car crash and she’s taken too—and then James is on his own?”

Farrell met Polish actress and singer Alicja Bachleda-Curuś while filming the 2009 movie Ondine. The pair dated for about two years and welcomed son Henry in October 2009. Alas, their romance fizzled by 2010.

He sent the Cleopatra actress flowers; she delivered him an orchid. After that, he said in a 2013 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, they started "hanging out.” 

"She wasn't much of a sleeper at night, like I'm not," he shared. "I'd call her at two in the morning. I just adored her. She was a spectacular, spectacular woman."

Taylor died of congestive heart failure in 2011. Farrell gave a reading of the Gerard Manley Hopkins poem “The Leaden Echo and the Golden Echo” at her funeral.

Sara Haines is late to the Summer House drama, but she is already very invested.

On the June 17 episode of The View'sBehind the Table podcast, Haines told executive producer Brian Teta that she recently started watching the Bravo series after several people on staff got her into it.

She said that she devoted so much time to the show that she ended up messaging Summer House star Kyle Cooke directly.

Teta teased Haines about being "late to the game" with her new TV obsession.

Haines said she started watching because people she loves were already invested in the show.

"When someone you love cares about something, it becomes contagious eventually," Haines said.

She said the staff got her watching the Summer House reunion, and she quickly became "so deeply invested" that she went back to watch Season 10.

"I've got a lot of feelings," she said in the interview.

Haines said those feelings eventually led her to Cooke's DMs.

"So I dropped into Kyle Cooke's DMs yesterday," she said.

Teta was surprised.

"Oh, my god. You cold DMing," he said.

Haines said she was "pretty sure" Cooke had not read the message and joked that it was probably buried somewhere.

Still, she said she felt like she needed to say something.

"I needed to go on record," she said. "I really needed to speak up."

Haines Said Watching Kyle Was "Painful"

Haines said her "heart goes out" to Cooke after watching the season.

"My heart goes out to Kyle Cooke, and watching him has been very painful," she said.

Haines made it clear that she has only watched Season 10, so she is not bringing years of Summer House history into her opinion.

"A lot of people seem to hate him, but I think I have fresher eyes because I'm not carrying a narrative," she said.

She said she knows some longtime viewers feel differently about Cooke because of past seasons, but she still felt strongly about what she saw.

"Nothing merited the treatment he has gotten," Haines said.

She also said she had a "visceral reaction" watching parts of the season.

She Shared Part of the Message

Haines said her message to Cooke was long.

"The good thing is this is the one time I write a book to a guy that doesn't respond that I'm not trying to date," she joked.

She then read part of what she said she sent him.

"I just have to share how hard it's been for me to watch the season of Summer House," Haines said. "I'm a new convert to the series. So other than the reunion, I've only watched this season."

She said she told Cooke that she knew viewers were focused on the West Wilson and Amanda Batula drama, but that she was more affected by what she saw between Cooke and Batula.

"I cannot endure how she has treated you," Haines said she wrote.

She added that she told Cooke he "deserves so much more."

Teta Clarified One Detail

During the conversation, Haines referred to the situation as an "affair," but Teta clarified that Batula did not have an affair.

"They have been separated since January," Teta said.

Haines explained that she was using the word because Batula became involved with someone close to the friend group.

Bravo fans have been following the fallout from Batula's relationship with Wilson, who previously dated Ciara Miller. Cooke and Batula announced their separation in January after four years of marriage.

Haines May Not Be Done Watching

Haines said she plans to go back and watch more of Summer House to better understand the history.

"I'm going to go back and watch all those seasons," she said.

Teta joked that she may need to start a rewatch series.

Haines did not seem convinced anyone would care, but she clearly had a lot to say.

And if Cooke ever finds her message, he will know exactly where she stands.

When a data breach exposes a secret society co-founded by one of Silicon Valley's most polarizing billionaires, most people wonder who's inside. Josh Brolin's response was something else entirely: he wanted to know what the hell he had gotten himself into.

Brolin's name surfaced this week when The Hollywood Reporter dug into materials first uncovered by WIRED identifying individuals affiliated with 'Dialog', a secretive, invite-only forum co-founded by Peter Thiel. A spokesperson for the No Country for Old Men actor told THR that Brolin would 'like to know what the f**k he got himself into.'

Dialog is a private, invitation-only network co-founded in 2006 by Palantir chairman Thiel and data entrepreneur Auren Hoffman. The organization holds off-the-record summits for powerful figures from the worlds of politics, finance, military, celebrity, and tech, and has frequently been compared to the Bilderberg Group and the World Economic Forum. The leaked agenda for the society's upcoming retreat reveals an eclectic program of off-the-record sessions, including panels titled 'Money (Does?) Buy Happiness,' 'Bring Back Nuclear,' 'How's Your Sex Life,' 'Navigating WWIII,' and, weirdly, 'Build-a-Cult.'

Brolin was nominated for membership by former Uber CEO Ryan Graves. His application included the following: 'I grew up on a horse farm, climbed parts of Everest, given academy awards, been nominated, written a book, had former Poet laureates reach out, been friends with the greatest artists of our time and smoked crack under a car at 3 am in San Francisco.' His application was given a C grade.

Other Hollywood names surfacing in the leaked materials include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sophia Bush, music manager Scooter Braun, La La Landcomposer Benj Pasek, A24 partner Scott Belsky, The Atlantic CEO Nick Thompson, and New York Times writer Ezra Klein. WIRED described the forum as one 'whose agenda runs from panels on cult-building and sex to prepping for World War III' and noted that its confirmed attendee list spans figures as varied as Elon Musk, Senator Cory Booker, Jared Kushner, and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.

Gordon-Levitt and Bush both moved quickly to put distance between themselves and Thiel specifically. Gordon-Levitt issued a statement on Instagram confirming he attended two Dialog conferences, but wrote: 'I do not know Peter Thiel. I've never met him. I've never spoken with him or his representatives. I've never seen him at an event. From what I've read about his views, we are political and ideological opposites.' Bush released a lengthy statement on Threads, explaining that she had accepted invitations to discuss Another Body, a documentary she executive produced about AI deepfake abuse, and the DEFIANCE Act, legislation she has championed to protect victims of non-consensual deepfake imagery.

Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal and the data-mining firm Palantir Technologies, is a prominent supporter of Vice President JD Vance and has said he voted for President Donald Trump. He donated more than $1.7 million to candidates and political parties in 2024, according to federal data, and has said publicly that he no longer believes 'freedom and democracy are compatible.' It is not clear from the leaked data whether Dialog engages in political activity, although the organization purchased land outside Washington last year for a permanent campus. The breach exposed names, phone numbers, email addresses, and birthdates of members who had been told their participation would remain private. A promise that, as of this week, no longer holds.

Hunter Biden just challengedDonald Trump Jr. to a cage match, and it isn't the first time. What led to this over-the-top ask? The story actually begins with Joe Rogan.

Former POTUS Joe Biden’s son recently posted a lengthy rant on X, criticizing Rogan and the UFC Freedom 250 fight on the White House lawn. And while that’s kind of expected, the story doesn’t end there.

Earlier in the week, on his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ Rogan spoke with author Chase Hughes about the UFC fight night backlash, saying, “I talked a bunch of people into going that didn't want to. Like Shane Gilliswas thinking about not going. I’m like, ‘Bro, you got to go. It’s going to be epic.’ It’s going to be a once ever thing. Not once in a lifetime. Once in anybody’s lifetime. It’s never happened before. It’s probably never going to happen again.” 

He also got into the politics of the event, saying, “So many people are trying to make it a partisan thing. Like they’re made at people for being there.” 

Enter Hunter Biden. In a very public letter to Rogan, posted on X, Biden starts with, “I wish I could sit down with you face to face and explain why so many of us were offended by the UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House.”

Biden does admit, “For me, it had nothing to do with the UFC or who showed up for the fights. The brand you and Dana have built is a bona fide American success story. More power to you.” He continued, “And as for the people who attended, I, for one, love Shane Gillis. I think he’s hilarious and brilliant. It was a show. A once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. I can’t blame anyone for wanting to witness it firsthand.” 

If you’re wondering what Biden took issue with, he goes on to write, “My problem is that I believe some of our public spaces are sacred. And unlike many of the great powers that came before us, these American monuments belong to all of us. Not whoever happens to hold power at the moment. The White House does not belong to Donald Trump. It does not belong to any President. It belongs to the people.” 

The former President’s son continued, “The White House is not Buckingham Palace. It is not the Palace of Versailles. It is not the Forbidden City of Beijing. It does not belong to an emperor, or a king, or a commissar. The White House belongs to us. All of us. The person who sits behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office is nothing more than an honored guest. A temporary caretaker. The President is our servant. Not our Caesar.”

Biden ends his letter with, “P.S. Cage match between me and Don Jr.? Your call on the venue. Anywhere but the South Lawn.”

If the invitation for a Biden vs. Trump cage match seems familiar, that’s because this is the second time that Hunter has thrown down the gauntlet. 

Last April, Biden announced YouTuber Andrew Callaghan’s Carnival Tour, sharing, “I think he’s trying to organize a cage match, me versus Eric and Don Jr. I told him I’d do it. 100% in if he can pull it off.” Of course, the cage match never happened. And most likely, neither will this one.

As part of California's new emissions regulations, Disneyland will be making some major changes to their long-running Autopia ride vehicles, according to People magazine.

As per the outlet, the iconic California theme park now has until February of next year to move away from their gas-powered vehicles in Autopia, allowing the property to comply with the state's ongoing emissions regulations.

The new developments comes after Disney previously confirmed that they had reached an agreement with the California Air Resources Board to do away with the attraction's gas engines by early 2027.

Instead of a traditional gas engine, the park is instead developing and testing out fully electric vehicles as a replacement for Autopia's famous in-ride cars.

“Work is underway on the design, engineering and testing of a fully electric vehicle prototype, and we look forward to sharing more details soon," Disney said at the time.

The presence of Autopia's gas vehicles has long remained a point of contention between Disney and state officials responsible for policing California's statewide emissions. With the countdown officially set for February 1, 2027, the park is now fully set on removing gas engines from Disneyland, updating them with more environmentally-friendly vehicles that coincide with California's new regulations.

“As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years," Disney previously said to The Los Angeles Times of the changes in store for Autopia.

Among the first original Disneyland attractions still standing today, Autopia initially opened inside Disney back in the park's opening of 1955. In the decades since, the ride has become a staple of Disney's flagship amusement park, with similar attractions soon opening at Disney's Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Fleetwood Mac was already at the top of their careers by 1979 and became a staple in the rock genre. For their twelfth studio album,Lindsey Buckinghamwrote and sang "Tusk," that's tagged as having one of the best drum intros and an unsuspecting hit among critics.

"Tusk" was released in September 1979 as the New Wave and punk scene was rising in popularity. Buckingham was eager to dive into more experimental sounds on their twelfth album, with Mick Fleetwood once saying that the guitarist wanted to "follow that muse creatively" as their band and many more of their era were being seen as "dinosaurs."

As a result, Buckingham and the band developed "Tusk," which became one of their most experimental tracks and a standout classic. It peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Cash Box. Critics described the song as having a "mesmerizing quality" and as the "most intriguing" contribution to the album, with UltimateClassicRock calling it one of the best drum solos of all time.

Buckingham once explained that they wanted the drums to have a "hypnotic feel" and found a 15-second section that worked. It led them to make "a circular loop of two-inch tape that went across the room. We let it run for ten minutes and put the song over it." The track even experimented with Kleenex boxes and lamb chops.

"Tusk" also gained attention for its use of a 112-piece marching band from the University of Southern California at the request of Fleetwood. The idea came from something the band co-founder experienced while he was on vacation in Barfleur.

“I was in a room in the town square with a horrific hangover, and I was woken by the sound of the local brass band that relentlessly went round and round the square,” he said, according to Rolling Stone. “As the day went on, they got drunker and drunker. But one thing was apparent. Everyone followed the brass band around the town, and I thought, ‘What a good idea!'”

As Fleetwood secured what he wanted, even the marching band was apprehensive of the recording and where they were going to perform. Wanting an outside setting, they worried renting Dodger Stadium would be costly, until Fleetwood offered to cover the bill. In the end, Dodgers player Ron Cey got it done for free.

Fleetwood Mac soon finished "Tusk" and were adamant that it be the title track for the album. The band felt the track would pique people's interest, with the studio agreeing it would cause conversation among fans due to it being a departure from their usual sound. The track did face some hiccups when copies of it were recalled due to a scratch on the B-side during its manufacturing, with the promo copies the only ones unaffected.

"Tusk" undoubtedly became one of Fleetwood Mac's "weirdest hits" that still stands as a classic decades later.

For most bands, the moment they finally break through is cause for celebration. For Oasis, it became something else entirely: the beginning of the end.

Long before the Britpop giants became one of the defining acts of the 1990s, Oasis were already known for their volatile chemistry, particularly between brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher.

But it was during the era of their seismic breakthrough album(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?that tensions reached a boiling point, even as the band delivered the song that would define their legacy.

That song, "Wonderwall," became an instant global anthem upon its release in 1995, helping propel the band from rising UK act to international superstardom. With its acoustic-driven sound and unmistakable chorus, "Wonderwall" quickly became the track that introduced Oasis to millions of new fans and cemented their place in rock history.

But behind the scenes, the success was anything but harmonious.

As fame exploded almost overnight, internal friction within the band intensified. Studio sessions grew increasingly tense, interviews became combative, and the Gallagher brothers’ well-documented clashes began to overshadow the music itself.

Morning Glory? went on to become one of the best-selling albums of the decade. But the creative environment that produced it was unraveling just as quickly.

According to longtime accounts of the period, the pressure of sudden global success only amplified existing divisions. What should have been a career-defining moment (recording and releasing a song that would become a generational touchstone) ended up accelerating disagreements that had been simmering since the band’s earliest days.

Still, the impact of "Wonderwall" is undeniable. Decades later, it remains one of the most recognizable rock songs ever recorded, endlessly covered, streamed, and played across generations. Its success helped define not only Oasis’s legacy, but also the sound of an entire era.

Yet the story behind it carries a quieter irony: one of the biggest songs of the 1990s was born at the exact moment its creators were beginning to fall apart.

In the years that followed, Oasis would continue releasing music and touring. But the fractures that deepened during the Morning Glory? era never fully healed.

The band eventually split in 2009, closing the chapter on one of rock’s most explosive and complicated legacies.

Dark Funeral is giving fans a new way to experience one of black metal's most enduring live acts.

The Swedish band has announced A Beast To Praise, its first live album in 22 years. Set for release on Aug. 21, the collection was recorded in Stockholm in 2022 and features 13 songs spanning nearly 70 minutes. Alongside the announcement, Dark Funeral unveiled the live version of "The Arrival Of Satan's Empire," offering fans a first preview of the upcoming release.

"This song has been with us for quite a while now and still remains one of the strongest songs in our live arsenal," guitarist and founding member Lord Ahriman said in a statement. "No matter where in the world we play it, the reaction is always immediate. It has even been called our 'Raining Blood' by some fans over the years."

A Beast To Praise marks Dark Funeral's first live album since 2004's De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine, ending a 22-year gap between concert releases. While the band has continued releasing studio albums and touring extensively throughout that time, this is the first official live document of the group's modern era.

Formed in Stockholm in 1993, Dark Funeral emerged as one of the defining bands of the second wave of black metal. Led by Lord Ahriman, the group built its reputation on blistering speed, theatrical live performances and albums including The Secrets of the Black Arts, Diabolis Interium and Where Shadows Forever Reign, becoming one of Sweden's most influential extreme metal exports.

More recently, the band has remained a fixture on the international touring circuit while continuing to release new music, including its acclaimed 2022 album We Are the Apocalypse. This October, Dark Funeral will return to Europe as part of the In League With Satan tour alongside Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir.

"We are better live than ever before, we’re more focused on really bringing out the best show we possibly can," Ahriman told The Rock Pit.

After more than two decades without a new live album, A Beast To Praise captures a band that continues to evolve while remaining true to the sound that made it a cornerstone of black metal. For longtime fans, it offers the closest thing to standing in the front row of a Dark Funeral concert.

Fans of indie rock band Pinback received disappointing news after frontman Rob Crow announced that he is canceling all touring plans for the foreseeable future due to chronic tinnitus, a condition that has made daily life increasingly difficult.

The update was shared through social media, where Crow explained the severity of his condition and confirmed that all scheduled and upcoming performances, including previously announced Plosivs tour dates, will no longer take place.

In a statement posted online, Crow wrote, "Sorry, guys, Due to chronic tinnitus, I'm forced to cancel all touring for the foreseeable future.”

The announcement comes after several performances were previously canceled because of what was described as an "unforeseen medical emergency." Crow has now confirmed that chronic tinnitus is the reason behind the band's withdrawal from all remaining commitments.

Crow shared details about the challenges he is facing while managing tinnitus, describing the ringing in his ears as "a constant screaming pitch around 11.1 kHz."

The musician said he is currently trying multiple forms of therapy in hopes of improving his condition. However, he noted that even routine daily activities have become difficult.

The decision affects not only Pinback but also Plosivs, another project involving Crow. Previously announced appearances have been canceled as a result of the health issue.

Despite stepping away from live performances, Crow indicated that fans may still hear new music in the future. He revealed that there are "a couple finished records forthcoming," though he expressed uncertainty about longer-term plans.

"I don't want to stop, but i just don't have any choice for the short-term," Crow wrote.

The musician also asked for understanding from fans whose travel and concert plans may have been disrupted by the cancellations.

The touring pause raises questions about the future of Pinback, one of the most respected indie rock bands to emerge from San Diego.

Formed in 1998 by Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV, Pinback has built a loyal following through albums including Blue Screen Life, Summer in Abaddon, Autumn of the Seraphs, and Information Retrieved. The band's last studio album, Information Retrieved, was released in 2012.

While Crow's latest statement did not confirm whether one of the completed records is a new Pinback release, his comments suggest that recorded music remains possible even as live performances are suspended.

Crow has remained active across numerous musical projects throughout his career. In addition to Pinback, he is known for his work with Team Sleep, Plosivs, Heavy Vegetable, Goblin Cock, Optiganally Yours and several other bands.

For now, fans will have to wait for further updates regarding any future concerts. Although the cancellation of touring plans is a significant setback for both Pinback, Crow ended his statement with a message centered on optimism.

"Like i said, ijust wanna stay positive."

It's been over 25 years since Star Wars' polarizing prequel trilogy, but to this day fans continue to furiously debate about the quality of George Lucas's Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

While some viewers hold a largely positive view of the trilogy, one person who is not a fan of the series is prequels actor Peter Serafinowicz.

Appearing on a recent episode of the Classic Clown podcast, Serafinowicz reminisced about his brief role as the voice of the iconic Star Warsvillain Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, a character who was physically played by Ray Park in the films.

“It was weird. This character Darth Maul… I don’t know what I thought,” Serafinowicz revealed. “The design of it… I wasn’t that into it. When I saw the film it was the biggest disappointment of my life at that point. It really was. I mean, have you seen it? It was so exciting that even being in it... doing this thing, what I thought would be this iconic thing. Just unimaginable."

Despite his initial excitement for the project, Serafinowicz ultimately left the series far more disillusioned than he initially thought, thanks in large part to the weaker reception of the film compared to the originals, Maul's unexpected death in the movie's climax and his overall low salary from George Lucas.

“James Earl Jones has got the best voice of any human ever, right?” the actor continued. “Then, suddenly there I was with George Lucas, and he was like saying, ‘Well, Peter, you’re the new James Earl Jones,’ and I was like, ‘F**king hell, am I? Then why are you paying me such s**t money, George?”

Serafinowicz's tenure in the Star Wars franchise would be largely fleeting, with the actor contributing only a handful of lines in The Phantom Menace. Though he did record Maul's dialogue in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the studio would end up using actor Star Wars: The Clone Wars actor Sam Witwer's recordings instead.

After a dominating performance in their World Cup opener against Paraguay, the United States will face off against Australia in a Group D matchup at Seattle Stadium on Friday, June 19.

The game will take place at 3 p.m. ET and be broadcast on FOX.

However, the United States might be without one of its star players as Christian Pulisic has been training separately from the main squad in the week leading up to the game after dealing with an injury to his left calf. At his pregame news conference, United States manager Maurico Pochettino addressed Pulisic's status.

"I think tonight, or the day before the game, we have a meeting with our medical area and we will assess the whole group, the players, and tomorrow we will communicate and see all the things that [we] can agree [on] tonight," Pochettino said. "He's evolving. He's much better from Friday. We'll see. I think at the moment, if we see he's not available for tomorrow, he will be available for the next game.

"I think he's doing a massive effort trying to be ready. I think for every single player that love their country it's an amazing opportunity to know, to enjoy and to help the team to perform and to win games. When this type of thing happens, always is painful, but I think Christian is strong and with great mentality and is doing a fantastic effort to try to be ready as soon as possible."

If Pulisic can't go, all eyes will be on Brenden Aaronson, the 25-year-old midfielder for Leeds United.

"I'm the type of guy that I'm always trying to be as calm as possible," Aaronson said. "I don't let any of the emotions of the game get to me at all. I kind of take it day by day and if that opportunity comes, I'll always be ready. That's the kind of player I am. I always am ready to start games, play games, give my best and give my all. I'm looking at it the same way. it's a game to play and whatever role I'm given, I'm going to give it my best. It's just the player I am."

California punk rock veterans Ceremony have announced their first studio album in seven years. The band revealed that its seventh full-length record, Tell Me Your Dream, will arrive on Aug. 7 through Relapse Records.

Alongside the album announcement, Ceremony released a new single titled “Death Destruction Mayhem,” giving fans another look at the band's latest musical direction ahead of the record’s release.

The upcoming album follows 2019’s In the Spirit World Now and marks a major return for the group, which has spent more than two decades evolving its sound while remaining one of punk’s most distinctive acts.

Ceremony’s current lineup features Ross Farrar, Anthony Anzaldo, Andy Nelson, Justin Davis and Jake Casarotti.

Ceremony Returns With First New Album Since 2019

According to the band, Tell Me Your Dream is the culmination of 21 years of making music together. The 10-track collection blends elements of hardcore punk and post-punk while drawing inspiration from influential anarcho-punk groups such as Discharge and Crass.

The album includes the previously released song “Other Hells” and the newly unveiled “Death Destruction Mayhem,” which has been described as an anthemic post-punk track.

According to Chaoszine, vocalist Ross Farrar shared the inspiration behind the album’s title and message:

“Tell me your dream in a time when intimacy and vulnerability seem neglected. Tell me your dream when reciprocity has become a contract. Tell me your dream when they ask, ‘What do you do?’ Something untrained by the mind that sparks inspiration.”

The band also addressed the themes explored throughout the record.

“We’re living in an era of mass uncertainty,” Farrar said. “In punk, I don’t see how you can’t respond. It’s taken over our lives in so many different ways — economically, politically, spiritually. We want people to wake up and get into what’s happening."

Guitarist Andy Nelson pointed to the song “Madness” as an example of the album’s direct approach.

“Why aren’t punk bands actually saying the word ‘Palestine’ on their records?” Nelson said. “We didn’t want to make anything that felt light, or empty, or apolitical. Our intent is to not waste anyone’s time, and to encourage people to think about what they settle for."

New Album Reunites Ceremony With Producer John Reis

For Tell Me Your Dream, Ceremony reunited with producer John Reis, who previously worked with the band on its acclaimed 2015 album The L-Shaped Man.

Anthony Anzaldo explained the importance of bringing Reis back into the studio.

“John sort of joined the band on this one,” says guitarist-keyboardist Anzaldo. “We could not respect him more as a guitarist, as a singer, as a songwriter. He understands what it’s like to be in every position. So we really gave him the keys.”

The album also reflects the long-standing bond between the members, whose history stretches back to childhood friendships.

“We’re bound together like family,” says Anzaldo. “Our relationships are beyond the band. CEREMONY is going to live no matter what. We’ve shifted into this dynamic where the choice isn’t ours anymore.”

Following the album release, Ceremony will launch a North American tour beginning Sept. 9 in Montreal. The run includes stops in Toronto, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Austin, San Francisco, Los Angeles and several other cities through November.

The tour announcement comes after the band played back-to-back weekends at Coachella earlier this year.

Since forming in Rohnert Park, California, in 2005, Ceremony has built a reputation for constantly reinventing its sound. Across six studio albums, the group has explored hardcore punk, garage rock, post-punk, indie rock and new wave influences. 

With Tell Me Your Dream, the band appears ready to continue that evolution while reconnecting with the intensity that first established its reputation in punk music.

“I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” was recorded by the Four Tops in 1965. It was one of the biggest Motown hits of all time, earning the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and the No. 1 spot on the R&B chart for nine weeks. Billboard ended up ranking it the second biggest single of the year and the biggest R&B single of the year.

“I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” was written and produced by a team that consisted of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland. Dozier spoke about the humorous origin of the lyrics in an interview with American Songwriter.

“I stayed with my grandmother when I was a kid,” Dozier explained. “She owned her own home beauty shop, and when the women would come up the walkway to get their hair done, my grandfather would be piddling around in the garden. He was a bit of a flirt and would say, ‘How you doing, sugar pie? Good morning, honey bunch.’ He was one of those types of guys. My grandmother had a big bay window to the front of the house. She’d say, ‘Look at that old codger. He thinks I don’t see. I know what he’s doing.’”

He continued, “He was just flirting with his big smile. I’m sitting there on the porch watching this. I’m probably 11 or 12. I was like a sponge, soaking it up. Years later, at Motown, I’m sitting at the piano. I’d take these mind trips back to my childhood, and I’m trying to see what this piano part is telling me. Sure enough, there my grandfather is, piddling in the garden. That memory comes to my mind’s eye, and I know where the song is supposed to go.”

The Four Tops were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. They were also listed as one of the “Greatest Artists of All Time” by Rolling Stone. Some of their other big hits included “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” “Ain’t No Woman,” and “Baby I Need Your Loving.”

The Four Tops stayed together for decades. However, they disbanded after one of the members of their quartet, Lawrence Payton, died in 1997. The last surviving member of the group, Abdul Fakir, retired in 2024. He died two days later.
