Target’s Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Island Looks Like Something Out of the Joanna Gaines Playbook
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
When I watch any home renovation shows on HGTV or Magnolia Network, I immediately sink into "I need a kitchen island" mode. Because every kitchen with an island just feels so much more inviting than one without. And mine? Well, it doesn't have an island. In fact, I'm not sure if it can comfortably handle much more than a small kitchen cart. If you have the same problem, I may have found the answer to our kitchen island prayers.
There I was, perusing Target.com, when I stumbled upon a relatively small kitchen island on wheels. It truly looks like something Joanna Gaines would approve of—except it isn't from her Target line or Magnolia at all. It just has the look.

Best Choice Products 36-Inch Large Rolling Kitchen Island Cart, $200.68 (originally $328.99) at TargetTarget
Shop It!I'm not sure if it's the pistachio green colorway that feels vintage in a way, the gold-toned hardware, or just its overall modern farmhouse feel that reminds me of Gaines, but it does. And, actually, the Best Choice Products Large Rolling Kitchen Island Cart comes in a variety of gorgeous colorways. Aside from the pistachio, there's also forest green, midnight blue, slate blue, white and black.
The cart is just 36 inches wide and 15.75 inches deep, which means it packs a lot of style and storage into a fairly small piece of furniture. If you plan to keep it in one place, the wheels do lock, so you can keep it stationary.
Let's get into some of the key features of this beauty that make it super practical, even in small spaces. There's a sturdy countertop for meal prep, a pull-out shelf for items you want to keep accessible while you cook, plus two drawers and a two-door cabinet for other odds and ends. What might be the most convenient feature—built-in power outlets.
The reviews have started rolling in, and so far, the folks over at Target.com seem super pleased with this kitchen island cart.
"I am in love with this," wrote one reviewer. "I thought it was going to be black but this color is amazing. I didn't use the wheels because it looks better without, but I'm so pleased. The cabinets work great and are smooth when opening and closing. I love that it has its own outlets that allow for easy appliance use and the storage is great. I told my sister to buy one for her kitchen."
If you're finally ready to take the plunge on a free-standing kitchen island or a kitchen island cart, consider this one, especially while it's on sale.
‘The Pitt’ Star Lucas Iverson Breaks Down Ogilvie’s Brutal Wake-Up Call: 'He’s Being Obliterated' (Exclusive)
To say that James Ogilvie (Lucas Iverson) came into The Pitt as a hotshot would be an understatement. As the actor reveals to Parade, he was given scant details on the fourth-year medical student when he auditioned for the role, essentially given "really smart, likes to show how smart he is, can't read a room."
And, through more than half of Season 2 of the hit HBO Max medical drama, we've seen that character description come to life. He shows immediately how much of a know-it-all he is when it comes to medical knowledge, having him immediately clash with the similarly brainy Javadi (Shabana Azeez). True, he does get a crash course in the...dirtier side of the job (something Iverson himself experienced when he got shot in the face with a "poop cannon"). But that still can't break his stride, as he even exalts at one point, "I feel like I was born to do this."

What a difference a handful of hours can make. The second half of the season has seemingly been an exercise in Murphy's Law. So far, the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center has had its systems go entirely offline, get traffic rerouted from a series of other hospitals, and a devastating water slide accident. And, as Iverson explains, the mounting series of events has left Ogilvie in a surprisingly addled state.
"He's being obliterated by the Pitt," the actor explains. "He thinks he's going to succeed. On paper, he's the person who's going to excel. He comes here ready to dominate. And there's an aggregate of disaster accumulating throughout the day for him, in a way that sort of eviscerates him and leaves him more or less a shell of the person he was at the beginning of the day."
And Ogilvie says as much during a rare moment of downtime at the top of Episode 10. Standing on the helipad with Robby (Noah Wyle), waiting to treat those from the water slide accident, he confides in the senior attending. "This place is relentless," he admits. "I’m not sure it’s healthy for anybody." It's a surprisingly pessimistic statement for the opportunistic, optimistic Ogilvie. And it comes right before he's handed a severed leg and thrown back into the fray.
"When he's up there with Robby, it's so interesting that the one opportunity he gets alone with the attending in a private moment is not to impress," Iverson says. "It's to say, 'I'm struggling. I don't know how you do this.' For such a suck-up to then use that, that precious little time to air his heart, I think, is really interesting and telling of who he actually is."

One of the other key aspects we've seen of Ogilvie's character goes back to his character description: Can't read a room. Throughout the season, we've seen him brusquely regard people who he feels are simply suffering consequences from the life choices he made, whether it was Louie's (Ernest Harden Jr.) alcoholism or Howard's (Craig Ricci Shaynak) obesity. But a beckoning from McKay (Fiona Dourif) seems to begin to change that perspective.
The second-year resident pulls Ogilvie away from the havoc of the ED, taking him on a trip across the street. In a rare moment outside of the hospital for The Pitt, the two meet up in the park with Kiki, a drug addict whom McKay has been seeing as part of the street team. As the two begin to treat her intense wounds for Xyalzine usage, we see his demeanor begin to change. Mere minutes ago, he told McKay, "I don't understand how people do that to themselves." Now, after looking addiction straight in the face, he's thinking differently.
"I think I really hated Ogilvie for the first half of the season," Iverson admits. "And what really opened up my heart to him, what gave me better understanding was, I think that there is a purpose for him being in the show beyond just what he serves the story. I think he's representative of a mindset that somewhat exists in our contemporary world, which is that a person is largely responsible for the state of their own life. And so there's a gradual chipping away of that ideology. He applies it to each patient and to himself. 'I'm responsible for making myself excel.' That's sort of a source of why he is the way he is. And then I think he slowly learns that that's not exactly compatible with reality."
"It's like a leitmotif throughout the day," he continues. "With Louie's eulogy, when Howard snaps at him, with McKay in the park with Kiki. I think each of these instances is a realization that people are generally just trying their best every day. They're not lazy or lax or stupid. It's people who, with the circumstances that they have in their lives, are constantly making efforts, constantly striving to do what they can to deal with what they're feeling. And I think that realization is enormous for him, and it's a really contemporary topic. What is our obligation to empathy? What role does it serve in society? Who are we without it? Why are we better for it, and why is it so hard to admit that you're wrong if you've been withholding it?"

Unfortunately for Ogilvie, he will get a major — and life-threatening — dose of being wrong soon thereafter. Despite his generally lacking bedside manner, he does seem to get on with Austin Green (Johnny Sneed), an English professor being hospitalized for kidney stones. The two seem to connect, as Ogilvie's father taught English as well, and the treatment seems rather routine. But when he finds him unconscious, we discover he had what's known as a "Triple A" in medical terms: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
"It's one of my favorite moments in the season for him," he says. "I think it's the thing that he has been fearing. Throughout the entire day, he sort of softens, in a way, and allows himself to connect with one patient. And when that one patient starts to decline really rapidly and really suddenly, in a way, it's sort of this perfect storm."
"I asked the doctors on set, 'Would an MS for know to check for this?'" he recalls. "And everybody was like, 'I'm not sure a resident would know to check for that.' It's rare, it's niche, and it exists because we have bad communication today with the power being down. It's a stressful day for all of this stuff to be happening. It's so easy to pick one oversight with all the charting that everybody's doing by hand."
Despite that, Ogilvie is nearly catatonic as Green is cut open. He even declines the offer to intubate, something he was incredibly eager to do at the beginning of the episode. While his patient is stabilized enough to go up to surgery, it's clear his mood has completely changed from eleven hours ago.
"It's nobody's fault, per se, that this was missed, certainly not Ogilvie's," Iverson reasons. "But he holds himself to such a high standard, particularly doubled because of his attachment now to this person, where his oversight and a learning moment feels like personal failure. That he has let himself down, that he has let Austin Green down, that he's failing as a doctor. The paralysis he experiences is that of the soul. It's, 'Can I do this? Can I progress forward? I missed a crucial, crucial thing, and it's my fault.'"
To that point, Ogilvie decides to go up to surgery with his patient, showcasing simultaneously his connection with Green and his guilt over what was nearly a fatal mistake. Given the limited hours we have left of The Pitt in Season 2, it's unknown when Ogilvie will come back down — or if he'll even come back to the PTMC in the future. But it's a firm reminder to both Ogilvie and the audience that being an emergency doctor is not for the faint of heart.
‘Next Level Chef’ Season 5: Who Went Home Tonight? (Night Five Elimination)
Last week on Next Level Chef, the chefs faced a first-time challenge when the Great Room was transformed into a beautiful restaurant packed with hungry diners and three Michelin-starred VIP guests did the judging as Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais led their teams in creating one course in a three-course meal.
The team that delivered the best dish of the evening was Team Blais, so they were in the top kitchen tonight. Team Arrington was voted the worst, so they were in the basement.
Tonight’s challenge was revealed as reimagining kids’ classic dishes! And Gordon’s 6-year-old son Oscar stopped by to help introduce it.
Then two chefs – one each from the bottom two teams -- as selected by their mentors -- had to cook against each other in the elimination challenge, where, for one chef, their Next Level Chef journey ended. Here's our spoiler-filled recap of tonight's Next Level Chef, including who went home.

In the “Mini Gordon” episode, the chefs had to take nostalgic childhood flavors and reimagine and elevate them into culinary masterpieces in 30 minutes.
The winning chef was Connor Caine with an elevated fried chicken and waffles dish, which took Team Arrington out of the basement into the top-level kitchen next week.
Gordon chose to send Amber to the elimination challenge because he felt that she needed another round, and Richard chose Tim, whose attempt to make an elevated pizza dough in 30 minutes didn’t cut it.
What was the elimination challenge on Next Level Chef tonight, and who lost it? Tim LaielliPhoto credit: FOX
The elimination challenge was 25 minutes to cook a dish with ingredients that kids avoid: broccoli, Brussel sprouts, liver and onions, and fish, and in this instance, squab, and transform them into a dish so irresistible that kids would eat it.
The chef who cooked his final dish in the Next Level Kitchen was Tim.
“I didn’t know what a squab was before today,” he admitted, tearing up. “This was like the best experience. Man, that was tough. I’m bummed to go home, but I’m really proud of myself. I enjoyed every minute. This has been the coolest experience of my life."
Next Level Chef airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Streams next day on Hulu.

1979 Career-Defining Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 47 Years Ago Today
On March 19, 1979, a soft and emotional love song by Anne Murray was quietly taking over the airwaves, proving that not all hits needed disco beats to win hearts. While the Bee Gees dominated the Billboard Hot 100 with “Tragedy,” Murray’s “I Just Fall in Love Again” became a No. 1 sensation on country and adult contemporary charts, marking a defining moment in her legendary career.
The song did not top the main pop chart, but it didn’t need to. By late March 1979, it had already reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and Adult Contemporary charts, where it stayed for three weeks.
In Canada, Murray’s home country, the track achieved even greater success: reaching No. 1 across pop, country and AC charts.

Released as part of her album New Kind of Feeling, the track showed Murray’s unique ability to blend genres. Her warm, calm voice turned a simple love song into something timeless.
“I Just Fall in Love Again” became one of the key songs that cemented Murray’s place as a crossover superstar. It was the first of three straight No. 1 country hits and part of a streak of four consecutive No. 1 adult contemporary hits between 1979 and 1980.
The song was originally recorded by other artists, including The Carpenters and Dusty Springfield, but neither version reached the same level of success. Murray’s version stood out and became the definitive hit.
She once shared that if she had known Springfield had already released the song, she might not have recorded it at all. That twist of fate helped shape music history.
At the time of the song’s success, Murray was also facing personal challenges. She became pregnant with her daughter while the single was climbing the charts, making it one of the most emotionally complex periods of her life.
“It was a very difficult time for me because I was so torn,” Murray recalled, describing the struggle of balancing motherhood and a booming music career, per American Songwriter.
Now, 47 years later, the song is once again in the spotlight as Murray returns with her 2026 album Here You Are. According to National Today, the project features previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1978 and 1996, right around the same era that produced “I Just Fall in Love Again.”
The album was discovered in her archives by a dedicated fan, something Murray herself found surprising.
Murray, who retired in 2008 after a 40-year career, says she has no regrets stepping away from the spotlight.
“I was so relieved. I had done it for 40 years. I was so tired, and I just wanted some time for myself,” she shared.
Even so, her music remains powerful. Songs like “I Just Fall in Love Again” continue to be played at weddings, on radio stations and on streaming platforms, proof that heartfelt music never goes out of style.

Rachel Bilson Welcomes Foster Cat Through ASPCA, Fans React
Rachel Bilson is officially a cat mom, and the internet is absolutely eating it up.
On Thursday, March 19, the 44-year-old O.C. alum revealed that she welcomed a foster cat into her home through ASPCA Los Angeles as part of a new campaign with PetSafe Brands.
In a video shared to her Instagram, Bilson documented the entire journey, from driving to the shelter to meeting the “lovely lady” for the first time.
"Gonna go pick up my little foster kitty. I can't wait to meet her," she said in the clip. Upon arriving at ASPCA Los Angeles, the Hart of Dixie star learned that the cat, a calico named Gaty, was an owner surrender. "Found my girl," she declared. "She's so sweet."
A staff member was then seen placing Gaty into a pink carrier before Bilson carried her out the door. The clip quickly cuts to her in the passenger seat, where she adds: “We’ve got her. She’s all buckled up. Safety first.”
View this post on InstagramBilson also shared that she prepared her home ahead of time and is seen setting up a self-cleaning litter box before bringing Gaty home. “Even though she’s a foster, she deserves a home that feels calm and completely ready for her,” she explained. “We can focus on helping her feel safe and cared for while she waits for her forever loving home.”
Fans wasted no time flooding the comments section with love for Bilson and her four-legged foster.
“You’re literally the sweetest!❤️,” one person wrote.
“Obsessed!!!” another said.
“big time cat lady 🙌🙌🙌🙌,” chimed in a third.
“She is so cute! She is the luckiest to have you as her owner! 🐱,” someone else added.
Others joked that Gaty might not be going anywhere. “I sense a foster failure ❤️❤️❤️,” one person wrote, while another added, “I’m sure you will keep her she is precious!!!”
Animal organizations quickly joined in, too. “So thankful you’re fostering Gaty! Excited for all the updates 🧡,” the ASPCA wrote, while PetSafe, the brand behind the litter box, added, “We are so happy Gaty found a foster home in you and that we could play a small part in her feeling comfortable as she settles in! 💛🐾.” PETA also showed support, writing, “Love that you’re fostering sweet Gaty. Giving her a safe, loving space while she waits for her forever family means everything 💞🐈.”
For those just tuning into Rachel Bilson’s rescue era, this is very much on brand.
The actress has been a vocal advocate for shelter animals for more than two decades, and both of her late dogs — a pit bull mix named Penny Lane and a poodle mix named Thurman Murman — were rescues. And in 2023, she partnered with Rachael Ray Nutrish to donate 30,000 pounds of food to the Pasadena Humane Society to “help shine a spotlight on animals in need.”
View this post on InstagramBilson’s fostering journey comes during a particularly busy stretch in her career.
In December, Deadline reported that she is set to star in a cooking school drama for Fox Entertainment based on Kathleen Flinn’s memoir The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry. Gordon Ramsay is attached as an executive producer, marking his move into scripted television.
She also continues to co-host the podcast Broad Ideas alongside best friendOlivia Allen.
The Official Happiest Country in the World Has Charming Seaside Towns, Castles, and Unique Experiences
There is a certain kind of traveler who chases happiness like a destination. I used to think it lived in warm places, somewhere between a beach cocktail and a perfect sunset. And then there is Finland. Cold, quiet, and consistently ranked the happiest country on Earth.
A Finnish native, Aino Virolainen, told the AP what makes Finland so magical.
“This is where I always want to come back to and where I want to grow my kids and grow old myself,” Virolainen said. “I think it’s because of the peace, the quietness, and the trustworthiness. How we speak directly, the nature, of course. It’s clean, the air is fresh—what’s there not to love?”
It turns out happiness does not always look the way we expect. In Finland, it feels like still water, clean air, and a sense that life simply works.
Don't miss a beat—subscribe now for trending travel updates and destination guides.
Why Finland Keeps Ranking No. 1 in the World Happiness ReportEach year, the World Happiness Report, produced in partnership with Gallup and the University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre, measures how people evaluate their own lives. It is not about fleeting joy. It is about stability, trust, and whether people feel their lives are going well.
In the 2026 report, Finland once again claimed the top spot, marking nearly a decade at No. 1. The rankings draw on data from roughly 140 countries and consider factors like income, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

Finland’s dominance is not accidental. High levels of trust in institutions, strong social safety nets, and low inequality consistently show up in the data. The result is a society where people feel secure, supported, and quietly content.
That word matters. Contentment, not constant happiness, is the Finnish version of success. And for travelers, that mindset subtly shapes everything from how cities function to how nature is experienced. You feel it when trains run on time, when strangers respect silence, and when the forest is never far away.
What “Happiness” Feels Like on the Ground in FinlandStatistics are one thing. Walking through Finland is another entirely. Happiness there is not loud. It is embedded in daily life. Public services are reliable, healthcare and education are accessible, and corruption is remarkably low. There is a sense that systems are designed to support people rather than exhaust them.
Finland has more than 180,000 lakes, and even in cities, water and green space are never far away. You do not escape into nature here. You live alongside it.
Then there is the sauna. It is not a luxury but a ritual. Locals step into the heat, then into icy water or fresh air, emerging reset. It sounds simple, but it feels transformative. The kind of experience that makes you realize happiness might be less about adding things and more about stripping them away.

Hidden Gems in Finland Most Travelers OverlookBeyond Helsinki, Finland reveals itself slowly. Its lesser-known corners feel like secrets you are trusted to keep.
Porvoo: A Storybook by the SeaJust under an hour from Helsinki, Porvoo feels like stepping into a painting. Wooden houses in shades of red line the river, and cobblestone streets wind past small cafés and artisan shops. It is one of Finland’s oldest towns, yet it feels intimate rather than historic in a museum sense.
Savonlinna and Its Castle in the WaterIn the Lakeland region, Savonlinna is home to the medieval Olavinlinna Castle, rising dramatically from the water. It is the kind of place that feels cinematic before you even understand its history. Come in summer, and the town hosts an opera festival inside the castle walls. Music echoes across the lake, and suddenly Finland feels grand and theatrical. Not just serene.
Lapland: Where Silence Becomes the ExperienceFar to the north, Lapland feels like an entirely different world. This is where Finland leans fully into its elemental beauty, vast forests, open tundra, and skies that seem to stretch forever.
Lapland is not a hidden gem in the traditional sense, but experiencing it beyond the usual glass igloos and bucket list checklists reveals something deeper. It is a place that does not demand anything from you, and in return, gives you a rare kind of clarity.
View this post on Instagram Unique Finnish Experiences That Redefine TravelFinland excels at experiences that are simple, immersive, and quietly unforgettable.
- Chasing the Northern Lights in Lapland: In Lapland, winter nights offer the chance to see the aurora borealis ripple across the sky. It is one of those rare moments that feels both cosmic and deeply personal.
- Ice Swimming and Sauna Culture: Yes, it sounds extreme. Stepping into near-freezing water after a sauna is a shock to the system. But it is also exhilarating in a way that lingers long after. It forces presence. No phone, no distractions, just sensation.
- Midnight Sun in Summer: Visit in June or July, and the sun barely sets. Days stretch endlessly, and time feels elastic. It is disorienting at first, then strangely liberating.
Related: Apparently the Latest Travel Trend Is ‘Viking Wellness’ and It Sounds Pretty Intense
The Takeaway: Happiness as a Way of Living, Not a DestinationFinland’s repeated No. 1 ranking is not about perfection. It is about balance. The country shows that happiness can come from trust, simplicity, and a deep connection to nature. It is not flashy, and it does not try to impress. It just works.
And maybe that is the real lesson for travelers. Sometimes the most meaningful places are not the ones that shout the loudest, but the ones that quietly change how you see the world.

Mommy’s Bliss Launches New Campaign To Combat Loneliness in Motherhood
Being a parent is easy—said no one, ever. Even though your mini me is by your side 24-7, you might still feel a few (or more than a few) pangs of loneliness. But don’t worry. Mommy’s Bliss wants to help!
The baby wellness brand is more than just a retail shop. While you might already know them for prenatal supplements, baby gas relief drops, and sniffle-stopping OTC cold meds, Mommy’s Bliss just debuted a brand-new initiative. And it may be just what you need right now.
What Is Find Your Bliss? The Find Your Bliss campaign targets loneliness in motherhood. Along with providing a supportive online community for moms at all stages, Mommy’s Bliss is partnering with Peanut (the social networking app designed to help moms match with and meet other moms) to host IRL friendship-building events across the country. So now you don’t have to sit behind your computer or scroll through your phone to feel that much-needed sense of belonging you crave.
CEO of Mommy’s Bliss, Yasmin Kaderali, explains in a press statement, “As a mom of two, I know firsthand that motherhood is one of the most beautiful journeys—and one of the hardest—and it was never meant to be done alone.” Kaderali goes on to say, “At Mommy’s Bliss, we’ve always been a moms-first company, because we understand just how much support can mean on the tough days. Every mom deserves a support system, with meaningful connections that focus on what it means to be a mom and where she needs care and attention.”
Why are social connections so important for moms?According to data from Peanut, loneliness and lack of support are real issues for many modern moms. The app’s 2025 survey, “Where did the village go?” analyzed data from over 2,000 of the platform’s community members and found that 75% believe they have less of a village than their own mothers did. A whopping 70% feel like “they’re doing motherhood alone,” and less than 18% feel like they’re fully supported.
Not only do moms feel unsupported, but they also aren’t asking for help. Peanut’s data shows that 77% actually avoid it out of shame or mommy guilt. So how can this new initiative make a positive change?
View this post on InstagramMichelle Battersby, President of Peanut, said, “Every day we see women turning to each other for support during some of life’s most exciting—and vulnerable—transitions. Society has evolved rapidly, but the infrastructure for finding your village hasn’t kept up. Peanut exists to fill that gap. Partnering with Mommy’s Bliss to bring our community together in real life is a natural extension of that mission.”
How can you get help from Find Your Bliss?Mommy’s Bliss and Peanut’s Find Your Bliss events are scheduled to start this March in cities around the country. Check the Find Your Bliss website for more info on meet-ups near you.

First American Woman in Space Gets TV Series 43 Years After Making History
Sally Ride became the first American woman to fly in space back in 1983. It's about time Hollywood pay her a proper tribute amid the ever-popular streaming era.
And why not enlist an Academy Award-nominated actress to portray the late pioneer? It was previously announced that Kristen Stewart was attached to star in The Challenger — and now, Amazon has officially greenlit the astronaut-centered limited series, Deadline reports.
The project comes from Maggie Cohn (HBO Max's The Staircase), who will write, executive produce and serve as showrunner, Deadline also noted on Thursday, March 19. It's reportedly based on Meredith E. Bagby’s book The New Guys (2023).
“Sally Ride’s courage and brilliance changed history, and we couldn’t imagine a more powerful actor to bring her story to life than Kristen Stewart,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement, per Deadline. “The Challenger is an inspiring story about breaking barriers, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Big Swing Productions, Amblin Television, Nevermind Pictures, Maggie Cohn, and James Hawes to share it with our global Prime Video audience.”
After becoming the first American woman to enter space on June 18, 1983, Ride was later part of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident, which happened on January 28, 1986, and killed seven crew members.
Per Deadline, The Challenger tells the story of one of the most defining moments in space history, both the unprecedented events leading up to the tragedy, and the shocking investigation that followed. As the members of the 1986 Rogers Commission interrogate the complex inner workings of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to find what, or who, was responsible for the Challenger’s doomed fate, the show explores Commission member Ride’s personal journey. It follows her, and the rest of the diverse Astronaut Class of ’78, through the ranks of the shuttle program, through initial recruitment and training, professional and personal highs and lows, until her historic glass ceiling moment as she becomes the first American woman in space.

Valerie Bertinelli Makes Rare Comment on ‘Insane’ Life With Eddie Van Halen
Valerie Bertinelli is looking back on her relationship with Eddie Van Halen with a new level of honesty.
During a conversation on The Bossticks podcast on Thursday, Mach 19, the actress and bestselling author reflected on her marriage to the late rock legend, offering rare insight into what life was really like behind the scenes, particularly during their early years together.
“We grew up together. We got married far too young, but I don't know how else we would have done it,” Bertinelli, 65, said. “Our lives were insane.”
The two met in 1980 and married the following year, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about couples of the decade. But as Bertinelli shared, their relationship unfolded during a chaotic time in both of their lives.
“We waited 10 years to have Wolfie. We went through a lot in those 10 years—basically the ‘80s, which I don't remember too much of between the drugs and the alcohol,” she admitted. “It was fun. You know what? I'm not gonna lie, it was a lot of fun… but I would never—I would not do it again.”
Despite the ups and downs—including their eventual divorce in 2007—Bertinelli made it clear that her feelings toward Van Halen evolved over time, especially in the years leading up to his death. “I love him dearly… I just love the father of my son that I knew since I was 20,” she said. “He would always be one of my dearest friends ’cause he was just—he was Ed. He was just a huge part of my life.”
Looking back now, Bertinelli said she has gained a deeper understanding of what shaped their relationship, including the personal struggles they both faced. “Near the end of his life, I could be much more compassionate… because I understand now,” she explained, noting that neither of them had fully dealt with their past traumas at the time.
Van Halen died on October 6, 2020, at the age of 65 due to a stroke after a long battle with cancer. The legendary guitarist had been open about his health struggles over the years, including the throat cancer that later spread, but continued to make music throughout much of his illness.
I Tasted The Cheesecake Factory's New Menu—Here Are 8 Things To Order and 2 To Skip
Somehow, The Cheesecake Factory is still adding items to its book of a menu. They are always excited to bring new dishes to the table but only after some serious testing—and that level of care is obvious once you try a few of their latest dishes. I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at The Cheesecake Factory's new spring menu for 2026 this month, and walked away with a few new favorites (and a couple of items I think you could skip).
The fan-favorite restaurant tries to expand on what's been working during every fresh menu rollout—which is why many of the new items have an Asian influence, after they performed well on other recent menu updates.
I got to enjoy a full menu tasting with other journalists and influencers at The Cheesecake Factory in Jersey City. We were able to try each dish and sip on their new drinks. A lot of the food I call out below is based on my personal preference, but I also considered the opinions of those I dined with, as well as how well the textures and flavors played together, and eat-ability.

New Drinks To Try from Their 2026 Spring MenuAlong with the new menu comes a few new drinks. My favorite of the night was the dangerously good Fresh Cucumber Martini: Ketel One Vodka, Hendrick’s and Elderflower Liqueur with Freshly Muddled Cucumbers.
Courtesy Devon Sherer
It was light and refreshingly sweet with small notes of floral that didn’t overpower the drink.
My close second was the Southern Peach Lemonade: Basil Hayden and Giffard Peach Liqueur Shaken with Hand Squeezed Lemon Juice. It wasn't too sweet but still peachy. The lemonade's tartness plays with it nicely.
There’s also a new matcha latte which pairs nicely with a slice of cheesecake.

8 Best Items from The Cheesecake Factory's New Spring Menu1. Bruleed French ToastCourtesy Devon Sherer
I have never been to The Cheesecake Factory for brunch, but this dish is making me consider waiting outside their door for when they open. They’ve had this on the menu for a bit but this new version is updated and perfected.
My tasting notes for this dish literally say, “Oh my God.” I don’t know how they made this because the bread is toasty perfectly on the outside but the inside almost seems creamy. The eggs and bread are so fluffy with the perfect sweet vanilla flavor. The sugar and syrup aren’t needed, but man, do they really bring it home on top. Everyone at the table was floored at how much they liked it.
My only other feedback on this is it could use more fruit on it. Not that it needs it necessarily, but more because it would make a mind-blowing dish that much better. I could see them adding seasonal fruit and compotes to this in the future.
Courtesy Devon Sherer
This was my favorite savory dish of the night. Even though it was one of the first things we tried, it had that much staying power (and no, it’s not because it comes with a lovely creamy and spicy ranch). It has perfectly crispy breading over top of a pickle that’s skinned. It’s details like that which makes The Cheesecake Factory stand out from so many other restaurants that seem to be cutting corners.
The naked pickle spears were tender but still had a good amount of crunch to them. They were easy to dip and held their shape nicely and didn’t feel greasy. You might need to order a couple of these if your group loves pickles.
Courtesy Devon Sherer
I really enjoyed this one. The noodles had a perfect sesame garlic flavor that wasn’t overwhelming. The steak was really tender and felt like it melted in your mouth. It plays nicely with the veggies, which were cooked but still had some life in them, so they gave a nice, soft snap. I had some the next day (we ate a lot of food, OK?!) and it heated up wonderfully.
4. Ahi Tuna PokeCourtesy Devon Sherer
I’m really picky on where I get raw fish (as we all should be), but I trust The Cheesecake Factory. I’ve seen into their kitchen and know that they only serve fresh ingredients and they are picky about quality. So I was delighted that they have a great poke bowl that includes some options.
I prefer the classic choice with rice as a base over the lettuce, but you can’t go wrong with either. The rice plays nicely with the soy, sesame and garlic, and enhances its natural sweetness. The fish was so fresh, and had no "off" fishy flavor. The added veggies were raw, minus the edamame, which was a nice texture to contrast the soft, tender fish and fluffy rice.
Courtesy Devon Sherer
I’ve never had anything like these before. The wonton chips were crispy and did an excellent job of holding the ingredients on them as they traveled from the plate to your mouth. The peanut sauce is really great—full peanut flavor, not too sweet and just a little heat to add some excitement.
The chicken is nothing too exciting but I was OK with that since all the flavors together were enough to make for a really interesting dish.
Courtesy Devon Sherer
So I don’t love spicy food, but these slapped, as the kids say. I love an arancini, so I hope they do more in the future. The richness of the andouille sausage and the Creole flavors were delicious and were balanced nicely with the peppers and onions. They are a good size, and The Factory did not skim out on the helpings of the non-rice items in the dish.
7. BBQ Pork Belly BunsCourtesy Devon Sherer
This one would be hard to beat the many street BBQ pork buns I’ve had—and it comes pretty dang close, but it’s not quite there. The potato bun is lovely and so, so soft, but I would have liked a more bao type bun to match the more Asian-inspired flavors that are in the cabbage slaw. Plus, with the bun being open on all sides, the ingredients made it slippery and a little hard to eat. While everything was delicious, it might be too much for some.
8. Veggie BurgerCourtesy Devon Sherer
Look, I love a medium rare burger, so I’m not exactly the target market for a veggie burger. That being said, it was still *really* good. It has a rich earthly flavor, with the mushroom and beans really shining flavor-wise.
The special sauce adds a nice creamy and sharp contrast, with the fresh toppings adding some lovely crunch. If you’re feeling a veggie burger the next time you're at The Factory, you probably aren’t going to be disappointed—especially with the side of fresh fries.
Courtesy Devon Sher
I wanted to like this more than I did. It just didn’t do much for me as a cilantro hater and a non-spicy gal. I’ve had other bowls from them that really blew me away. And I will say, everything was fresh and presented beautifully. The beans and rice were prepared perfectly and there was a generous amount of guacamole.
2. Little Gem Lettuce SaladCourtesy Devon Sherer
Look, a blue cheese salad is going to be divisive. I think a blue cheese lover would find this salad divine, but as a hater, it’s ranking low for me (though the flavors do blend well together). I also did not like that the lettuce was not cut—it looked beautiful, but it’s a lot of work to get that perfect bite.
So there you have it, eight dishes I definitely recommend, and two you could probably skip. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it. We can’t wait to see what The Cheesecake Factory will be putting out next!

9 Things Parents Need From Their Adult Children—but Won’t Ask For, Psychologist Shares
You may remember your parent tying your shoes and teaching you to ride a bike or drive a car. You may have had marathon geometry test study sessions together (for a test they didn't have to take), and felt love and delight when they got you the skateboard you'd requested for your birthday. You asked and, within reason, your parents were there to give you a boost.
It's natural to fall into the role of "the cared-for one" with your parent and maintain it (at least to some extent) as an adult. For instance, you may happily welcome the break from doing laundry if Mom or Dad comes to help you in the early days of becoming a parent yourself. However, one psychologist shares that relationships can shift over time—even the parent-child one.
"From parental figure, to friend, and then to needing assistance and care as they [age], parents have different relationships with their child," shares Dr. Michele Goldman, Ph.D., a psychologist and Hope for Depression Research Foundation media advisor.
Dr. Goldman urges adult kids to remember that parents have needs—physical, emotional, logistical, financial—and they may turn to a trusted adult child for help. Or? They may be afraid to because they don't want to be a burden, are uncomfortable with vulnerability, or are in denial about their health or difficulties living independently.
She says it's crucial to understand the different things your parents need from their adult children but won't ask for, so that you can compassionately broach the topic with them. Scroll on for her insights and advice.

9 Things Parents Need From Their Adult Children—but Won’t Ask For, According to a Psychologist1. Reassurance that they matterDr. Goldman reports that parents often crave poignant reminders that they impacted their adult children—especially married or partnered ones—and still hold a place in their lives,
"Parents need to know that they still are a significant person in their child’s life, even as that child is forming their own family," she shares. "Parents might hesitate to ask for this reassurance because they want their child to do it naturally. It captivates how much they matter when that space is created without prompting."
2. Inclusion in eventsDr. Goldman knows that grown children are often busy adulting—earning job promotions, partnering up, raising their own children, etc. And to parents, it can feel like time is passing quickly without them, with all of that going on.
"Parents might not necessarily be included in all events that they used to be included in," she reports. "They are not invited to the small celebrations or... events because of distance, especially in families who live in different states or countries."
Sadly, this one is often a case of assuming the wrong thing.
"Children don’t always extend an invite because they don’t want to inconvenience a parent or feel the need to force a parent to attend," she shares. "Parents don’t ask to be invited because they don’t want to overstep."
3. PatienceDr. Goldman shares that the need for adult children to recognize that their parents are slowing down increases with age—ditto for patience. Parents may move or talk more slowly, forget things more easily or take longer to adjust to new technology.
"Patience can be hard to ask for and might be done in indirect ways, such as 'Give me a minute, I’m coming!' or 'The body isn’t what it used to be!'" she explains.
4. Regular contactPSA: "Parents still have emotional needs," Dr. Goldman says.
One of those needs is often regular contact, such as phone calls or a weekly dinner. Keeping certain traditions, like holiday visits, also falls under this umbrella, but she shares that the smaller, more frequent touchpoints can have a profound effect.
"It can be hard for parents to ask for regular contact from their child because it might feel like they are being needy or demanding, or acknowledging feeling socially isolated," the psychologist shares.
Related: Parents Who Aren't Close With Their Adult Kids Often Have These 12 Traits, Psychologists Say
5. RespectThe idea that we should respect our elders doesn't always play out in reality.
"There is often a loss of respect our culture has for the elderly, and parents might need a sense of respect from their adult child in the face of lacking respect from society at large," Dr. Goldman shares.
6. Navigating healthcareYou may already know this one, but just a reminder: "The medical system in the U.S. is very complicated and can become much more complex for older adults," Dr. Goldman points out.
She shares that dealing with insurance companies and claims can be overwhelming and confusing, especially for older adults.
"Parents might need assistance with scheduling appointments on online portals, for example or with refilling their prescriptions," she adds. "There may also come a time when a parent needs someone to attend appointments with them or needs prompts to follow a doctor’s instructions."
Dr. Goldman says that parents often don't want to burden their adult children with the demands of these tasks. They may also fear they'll lose their independence.
7. Managing a householdReal talk: It's difficult at any age, but Dr. Goldman shares that managing a home can pose specific problems as parents rack up birthdays.
"There can be limits to cleaning, moving heavy furniture, lifting items and opening jars or cans," she explains. "There can be more specific seasonal tasks like shoveling snow or mowing the lawn that used to be completed with relative ease, and now are a challenge."
There are also technology updates (like Wi-Fi) and safety modifications (such as a bar in the shower).
"Some of these tasks might be easier to ask for—others might be more challenging," she states. "Children can become more accustomed to offering 'how can I help?' when they are in their parents’ home, as opposed to waiting for their parents to ask for assistance."
8. Finance managementMoney matters are a concern for most adults, including aging ones, Dr. Goldman says.
"There are, of course, the concrete tasks to navigate, such as managing online banking," she states.
There's also a need to talk to parents about avoiding online scams targeting aging people, navigating retirement accounts and planning for the future, the psychologist shares. However, she notes that parents and adult children may have complex, layered relationships with money, and some families don't even talk about finances.
"It can feel very vulnerable to begin having these conversations and asking for help," she says.
9. Transportation supportThe take-the-keys conversation is a dreaded one amongst adult kids and their parents. And parents may hesitate to even start to ask for a lift. That said, Dr. Goldman says transportation concerns also apply to older adults living in cities with mass transit. Adult children shouldn't avoid important safety concerns, like the ability to walk to get groceries and take the stairs to the train station. However, early signs that a parent shouldn't drive anymore or may have issues with mass transit often hide in secrecy, even if the older adult has an inkling they need help.
"These are challenging conversations to have because they bring up the changes happening in the parents’ bodies during the natural aging process," Dr. Goldman says.

How Can You Start Conversations With Your Parents About These Topics?Think about timingTiming matters. There may never be a perfect time, but some moments are better than others.
"There are certainly moments to avoid and moments that might be more advantageous," Dr. Goldman says. "Avoid talking on holidays or when folks are tired, stressed and spread thin."
She also advises against having conversations when someone can't escape, such as during a car ride. Instead, she suggests a neutral, calm and quiet setting that opens the door for more connection.
Pace yourselfIt's not possible to rip the Band-Aid off with a one-and-done conversation about the things your parents may need help with but aren't asking about.
"These topics are things that will need to be discussed multiple times; think of it as an ongoing topic of conversation," Dr. Goldman explains. "Therefore, pace yourself and move slower than you think."
She says that you can do this by starting with one topic, issue or question.
"Know one thing you want to address in each conversation," she suggests. "Ask yourself, 'What is my goal right now by bringing this up?' Let that guide the conversation."
It's important to manage your expectations, though. Your parent may not want to open up right away. She shares that "I don't know" can be an acceptable answer on the first go around.
"Let that rest, but check in and say, 'I’m going to ask again,' to ensure everyone knows this is ongoing and we are no longer going to mutually be avoiding this topic," she shares.
Regulate emotions as best as possibleConversations about assistance, your parents' need for reassurance, finances or getting from point A to point B are emotionally loaded. Dr. Goldman suggests doing an emotional check-in to ensure you're not feeling angry, defensive or anxious before broaching a tough topic with your mom or dad.
"If those or other emotions are present, pause, take some deep breaths and think through how and why you want to communicate with your parents," she advises. "The adult child should also think through the conversation and plan for defensiveness, denial or avoidance."
She adds that the parent may also yell, minimize or deflect.
"The more the adult child is regulated, the better these conversations go," she says. "It also leaves space for the parent to have emotions, and only one person is emotional instead of two."

3 Ways for Adult Children To Connect With Their Parents1. Engage in an activityDr. Goldman shares that sometimes, it's easier to foster a connection when you are doing an activity together, such as taking a walk or going through old photos, rather than a deep in-person conversation.
"The activity can make it easier to [focus] attention elsewhere while also having the opportunity to spend quality time together and converse," she says.
2. Ask about the pastDr. Goldman reveals that many parents relish the opportunity to reflect on their past.
"They have stories to share and want a chance to remember another time with nostalgia," she explains. "Many adult children do not know what their parents were really like as people, because the parents were always being seen through the lens of 'parent' and not 'person.'"
3. Ensure they feel neededHopefully, your parents will start asking you for help with things they need. This development is positive, but it may also make the parent feel they have less purpose or aren't needed as much, or at all, anymore.
"Adult children can connect to their parents by continuing to need them for emotional support, guidance and their wisdom," Dr. Goldman shares. "Turn to them for some need that allows them to feel they are still the parent. It allows them to still feel that closeness, but also a sense of dignity and purpose."

Dakota Mortensen Breaks Silence on Leaked Video of Incident With Taylor Frankie Paul
Dakota Mortensen is speaking out for the first time since a video surfaced of his ex-girlfriend, Taylor Frankie Paul, appearing to assault him in 2023.
“As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a deeply upsetting situation,” Mortensen told Us Weeklyon Thursday, Mar. 19. “I am, unfortunately, used to these baseless claims about me and our relationship, which I categorically deny. I am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same.”
Mortensen has also filed for a restraining order and for sole custody of their son Ever, who turned 2 on Mar. 19.
In 2023, Paul was arrested for alleged domestic violence following an argument with Mortensen. She was given misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal mischief, and commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child, after she was accused of throwing a chair at Mortensen that hit her daughter.
Paul ultimately pleaded guilty to a single charge of aggravated assault, and the domestic violence charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal. She is currently serving a 3-year probation.
A video obtained by TMZ on Mar. 19 shows the incident that led to those charges. In the clip, Paul is seen hitting Mortensen, putting him in a headlock, and trying to kick him as he records her actions.
ABC pulled the plug on Paul’s Bachelorette season just hours after the video was released online.

Paul also addressed the cancelation in a statement to Us Weekly on Mar. 19.
“Taylor is very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security,” the statement read. “After years of silently suffering extensive mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally gaining the strength to face her accuser and taking steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm.”
The statement continued, “There are too many women who are suffering in silence as they survive aggressive, jealous ex-partners who refuse to let them move on with their lives. Taylor has remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming. She is currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story.”
A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department confirmed to People earlier this week that there is an open “domestic assault investigation” regarding Paul and Mortensen.
The spokesperson confirmed “allegations have been made in both directions” and “contact was made with involved parties on [Feb] 24th and 25th,” but declined to share any further details.
TMZ also spoke to sources connected to both Paul and Mortensen, who offered conflicting stories regarding the recent alleged domestic violence incident.

Why Was Taylor Frankie Paul Arrested? Inside the ‘Bachelorette’ Star’s 2023 Assault Case
Before being announced as the lead of The Bachelorette season 22, Taylor Frankie Paul made headlines in 2023 after she was arrested following a domestic dispute with her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
The incident became a major moment in the influencer’s public story and was later referenced on the reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Now a new investigation and a newly-surfaced video of an altercation between the two has caused ABC to pull Taylor's season of The Bachelorette just three days before it was supposed to begin airing.
"In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family," ABC told Parade in a statement.
Here’s what to know about Taylor's past legal issues and relationship with ex Dakota.

Taylor Frankie Paul was Arrested in February 2023On Feb. 17, 2023, Paul was arrested in Herriman, Utah, following a domestic dispute with Mortensen, according to the Today Show.
According to the Herriman Police Department, she was initially charged with misdemeanor counts of assault, criminal mischief and commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child. Court documents later alleged that during the argument, Paul threw several objects, including a phone and furniture, during the altercation.
According to the indictment, some of the items struck Mortensen and also caused damage to his vehicle. Authorities also reported that one of Paul’s children was present during the incident.

Taylor Later Reached a Plea Agreement in the CaseIn August 2023, she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, while the other charges were dismissed with prejudice, meaning they cannot be filed again. Under the terms of the agreement, Paul was required to complete both a substance abuse evaluation and a domestic violence evaluation.
She was also required to avoid further legal trouble beyond minor traffic violations. Following the case, Paul addressed the incident publicly on social media.
In a TikTok video shared in 2024, she reflected on the night of her arrest and described it as a turning point in her life.
“Last year on this day was the worst day of my life,” she said in the video, adding that the experience pushed her to seek help. Paul also shared that she had reached one year of sobriety following the incident.
Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen Are Involved in a New Domestic Violence InvestigationIn March 2026, new reports emerged that Taylor and Dakota were involved in an ongoing domestic assault investigation.
A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department confirmed to People that there is an open case involving the pair, noting that “allegations have been made in both directions” and that authorities made contact with both parties in late February.
Details about the incident remain limited. According to TMZ, Taylor and Dakota have been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluations after allegations against each other of physical violence. Dakota is alleging that Taylor has been abusive to their son, Ever, who is almost 2 years old. She denies it and says that Dakota attacked her in a car during an argument. His reps say it was her who attacked him and that was a year ago, but he alleges that three weeks ago, Taylor choked and scratched him during a fight and a friend called the police.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has halted production amid the investigation.

"They are not filming," a source told People. "Taylor has some pretty serious stuff happening regarding her past, and they will see what happens. Until that resolves, they are off."
Another source added, "None of the women want to be associated with her. The girls are very overwhelmed. They all banded together, and they don’t want to come back right now. They were just getting tired of Taylor, honestly."
The development came just days before Paul is set to appear as the lead on The Bachelorette, but that is no longer moving forward at ABC.
