‘Smallville’ Star's Risky Audition Landed Him His Iconic Role: ‘I Had Nothing to Lose’
Actor Michael Rosenbaumfamously played Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) best friend-turned-nemesis, Lex Luthor, in the hit WB series, Smallville.
Rosenbaum revealed how he landed the role of Lex during a March 2026 episode of his podcast, Inside of You, alongside his guest, actress Sarah Chalke. Rosenbaum explained he wasn't all that interested in starring in the show, which ended up having a 10-season run.
"Long story short, I didn't want to go in because I thought it was the WB or something. I was like, This is going to be cheesy. I don't want to do this. Like, I just go in. So, I had nothing to lose," said Rosenbaum on his podcast.
He also said that after he found out that 700 actors had auditioned to play Lex, he asked what casting directors were looking for. After he was told the bald billionaire needed to have "a sense of danger" and a "sense of charisma," he went through his "three pages of dialogue" and circled moments where he needed to "be charming" and where he needed to "be dark."
He also said that when he got into the audition room, he denied a request from the casting director.
"Casting director says, 'Oh, have a seat here.' And I go, 'I'm not going to sit.' And they're like, 'Well, we have to re-light you then." I go, 'Okay.' So, I went outside. I wasn't a d--k. I was just like, 'This is the way I want to do it.' And I read," recalled the actor on his podcast.
He said he received a call from his agent "two days later," who told him that he was being asked to "test for the studio network."
"I'll never say this again. I go, 'No f--king way. Like, what do you mean? I'll never be as good as I was in that room. You tell them to rewind the tape,'" said Rosenbaum to Chalke.
The Smallville star said his agent told him he was "going to lose this part" if he didn't do the test for the studio network.
"And I said, 'Okay.' And then I got a call a week later. 'It's yours.' Never tested for the network studio," said Rosenbaum.
Rosenbaum then said he didn't recommend his technique for other actors during the audition process.
"Don't do it folks," said Rosenbaum.
Rosenbaum played Lex during the show's first seven seasons. Smallville ended in 2011.

‘Hannah Montana’ 20th Anniversary Special Isn’t the Only Kids’ Show Miley Cyrus Is Starring In
Can you believe that Hannah Montana turns 20 this year? In honor of the big 2-0, Disney just dropped the official trailer for the anniversary special. But that’s not the only place you can find Miley Cyrusthis March. The actress/singer/all-around superstar is also making an appearance on one of the most iconic children’s television shows of all time—Sesame Street!
That’s right, Cyrus is joining Cookie Monster, Elmo, and the rest of the gang on the classic kids’ TV series. And your kiddo isn't the only one who is going to enjoy this episode. If you’re feeling nostalgic for the 2000s hit show, now is the perfect time to enjoy a month filled with Miley.
What do parents need to know about the new season of ‘Sesame Street’?Sesame Workshop recently released a new season of the show (March 9), streaming on Netflix and PBS Kids. The entire volume dropped on the same day, meaning your little one won’t have to wait for more episodes. That is, of Volume Two. A third volume is coming to the three-part season 56 later this year.
View this post on InstagramVolume Two includes four episodes: Elmo’s Toy Swap (featuring Cyrus), Abby’s Magical Dragons, Elmo’s Awesome Bike, and Elmo and the Great Cookie Stack. Even though the show is a classic, Sesame Workshop’s reimagined version brings learning to a whole new level. Along with your kiddo’s favorite friends, they can finally get a glimpse into the “street’s” brownstone, play along with the characters, enjoy engaging animation, and watch special guests, like Cyrus.
Executive producer Sal Perez explains, in a press statement, “Season 56 reimagines Sesame Street, inviting children into the action and bringing them hand-in-hand through high-stakes stories, powerful learning moments, and laugh-out-loud surprises.”
Volume Two’s episodes focus on themes such as sharing with friends, learning how to handle powerful emotions like anger, understanding jealousy, and persevering in the face of adversity.
When can you watch Miley Cyrus on ‘Sesame Street’?Miley joins the colorful cast in Volume Two, Elmo’s Toy Swap. You can catch a glimpse of the star’s performance in a cute clip posted on Instagram earlier this March. Beloved character Cookie Monster shares one of his trademark treats (a cookie, of course) with Cyrus. And like her blue furry friend, the performer eagerly gobbles it up, with an, “Umm, numm, numm, numm, numm. Delicious!”
When is the ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th anniversary special?Miley is on Sesame Street right now. But your child will have to wait a few more days to see her as Hannah Miontana. The 20th anniversary special debuts on Disney+ and Hulu on March 24. And yes, that’s exactly 20 years to the day after the show’s original release.
Martin Scorsese Unveils First Look at What Happens at Night with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence
Are you one of those who were surprised to see Leonardo DiCaprio with a mustache at the 2026 Oscars? Were you wondering why he did that? Well, we finally have an answer for that. Veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese shared the highly anticipated first look at his upcoming movie, What Happens at Night, and the images confirm that the actor sported the new look specifically for his character in the film.
Unlike all the leaked images, the still shared by Scorsese on Instagram is a carefully composed image from the film, and it shows. The image places DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence front and center as a married couple, walking closely together through a stark, wintry landscape. There’s no dramatic action unfolding, no overt tension, and that's what makes this picture so intriguing.
Based on the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron, the movie chronicles the journey of an American couple traveling to a remote town in Europe to adopt a child. Their journey begins on a hopeful note, and they are really excited about what lies ahead. However, things turn upside down when their time in the town becomes unsettling, as their surroundings, and perhaps their own relationship, start to feel unfamiliar.
View this post on InstagramThe production still reflects that transition beautifully. The snowy backdrop feels isolating, almost like the world around them has gone silent. For DiCaprio, the film continues his long-standing creative partnership with Scorsese, one that has delivered some of modern cinema’s most memorable performances. This marks yet another collaboration between the two, and without any guesses, the expectations are really high.
For Lawrence, however, this project is particularly exciting. It’s her first time working directly with Scorsese, and it would be exciting to see how the filmmaker uses her impeccable acting skills in the narrative.
Mike Coppola/FilmMagic
Beyond its leads, the film also boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris, making fans more excited about the project.
What Happens at Night is backed by Apple Films and marks Scorsese's second collaboration with the aforementioned production house. In 2023, the filmmaker, along with DiCaprio, partnered with Apple for Killers of the Flower Moon, which turned out to be a massive hit and was nominated for 10 Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards.
If anything, this image confirms that What Happens at Night won’t be a traditional Scorsese title. It appears more atmospheric and suggests that the real drama might lie in what is left unsaid. No official release date has been announced yet for the movie.

1974 Career-Defining Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 52 Years Ago Today
The title track from the quintessential Cher album Dark Lady (1974) became a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart 52 years ago today.
"Dark Lady" was Cher's fourth number-one single in her entire career and her third number-one single in her solo career, following other major hits like "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" (1971) and "I Got You Babe" (1965) — the latter being a duet released with her longtime partner Sonny Bono.
Written by the Ventures' keyboard player Johnny Durrill, the song tells the story of a fortune teller in New Orleans who takes in the narrator as a client and tells her that her husband is having an affair with someone "who is very close to you." Distraught, the narrator returns home, only to smell the fortune teller's perfume in her room. She returns to the fortune teller's shop, catching her and her husband in the act "laughing and kissing," and shoots them both to death.
Dark Lady was produced and released during a major turning point of Cher's life and career. She had just filed for divorce from Bono, ending the run of the Sonny & Cher duo which dominated the entertainment space in the 1960s. Cher was at the height of her popularity, but at the same time she was beginning a new journey of self-rediscovery, and the narrative ballads of Dark Lady gave her room to show off her full range of power and talent. The music magazine Cash Box published a rave review of the album, emphasizing that it "continues to present [Cher] as the sultry queen of rock, a lady capable of catalyzing any audience with her vocal and phrasing ability."
The title track hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart would be the last time Cher would have a chart-topping single until 23 years later, when "Believe" was released in 1998, and remains a classic in the singer's discography.
Cher has enjoyed a long career exploring myriad genres across rock, pop, disco, jazz and more, and has solidified a legacy as one of the most enduring and influential singers of all time. She recently celebrated 60 years in music with her 2024 compilation album Forever, featuring a curated track list of remastered versions of her greatest hits.

Iconic '60s Bond Girl is 'Devastated' After Being Swindled Out of Millions by Former Manager
Former Bond girl Ursula Andress believes she was specifically targeted to be the victim of a scam that left her losing millions of her own fortune. The Swiss actor and former model rose to fame for having been the original Bond girl named Honey Ryder in 1962.
Andress's fame in the '60s led her to have impressive wealth, having first starred in Dr. Noand the 1967 Bond parody Casino Royale. She went on to appear in several film from She, The 10th Victim, The Blue Max, Red Sun, The Fifth Musketeer, and Class of the Titans. The former Bond girl is now "devastated" after her former manager tricked her into losing millions.
Speaking to the German news outlet, Blick, the 90-year-old actor was reportedly swindled out of roughly $21 million by her former manager, Eric Freymond. She adds that her age was a factor in the scam, and was "wooed" and "exploited" by Freymond.
"For eight years, I was courted and wooed," she said. "They lied to me ruthlessly and exploited my goodwill and trust in a perfidious, even criminal, way to take everything from me."
She adds that the experience has left her with "debilitating anxiety" and the feeling of "helplessness is unbearable." As Andress filed a criminal complaint, including charges of embezzlement, she alleges that Freymond took her money and transferred it from the Lombard Odier bank to an account at the Vaud Notaries’ Association at Saanenbank.
Related: 1985 No. 1 Hit Became an ’80s Anthem Thanks to a Teen Movie Classic
Andress also claims that Freymond used her money to purchase millions of artworks by his wife without her knowledge. Her management team filed a statement calling it a scheme of "exceptional scale" that had defrauded multiple actors and is under investigation by the Vaud cantonal judicial authorities. Andress also revealed the money was intended for her retirement.
The Bond actor isn't the only one to have been reported to have been defrauded by Freymond. In 2024, it was suspected that Freymond also stole a $13 billion fortune from the Hermés heir Nicolas Puech. The Swiss court ultimately ruled he could not be held responsible despite having reportedly admitted to some of the charges in July 2025. Freymond died by suicide last year.
These Actors Almost Played Paul Atreides in Dune
All hail Muad'Dib!
Dune: Part Three’s promotion has begun at full throttle. From mesmerizing character posters to an intense, action-packed trailer of the saga’s conclusion, it wait for a film set for a December release is becoming increasingly impatient.
The new trailer brings back Timothee Chalamet in the titular role of Paul Astreides, and yes, he’s turning heads with his new look.
What’s surprising is that during the casting process for such a mega-budget film, where a series of actors line up and go through the entire process of auditions, Chalamet was always Denis Villeneuve's number one choice to headline Dune. But that wasn’t the case for David Lynch’s 1984 Dune.
Here’s the list of actors who almost ended up headlining the 1984 mega flop – and ultimately saved themselves the trouble.
Tom CruisePhoto by Warner Bros. on Getty Images
Fresh off the success of Risky Business and in a position to grab any film he wanted, Tom was one of the early contenders for the role of Paul. But unfortunately – or fortunately – Tom lost the role to Kyle MacLachlan owing to his difficulty grasping Frank Herbert’s language.
In Max Evry’s oral history of A Masterpiece in Disarray: David Lynch's Dune, Everett McGill (Stilgar) recalls: “I have a faint recollection that Tom Cruise had some difficulty with the language during his screen test.” Sean Young, who played Chani, also jibed, saying: “Maybe they hadn’t gotten him at the Scientology Celebrity Centre yet, helped him with his speech.” (via Mashable)
Thank God, this didn’t work out. Who would have run those marathons in Top Gun?
Val KilmerParamount Pictures
As astounding as it sounds, Kilmer was actually the first choice for the role until Kyle showed up and upped the ante in his favour.
“I think the biggest shake-up early on was that we were going to go with Val Kilmer for Paul. I had done a huge search around the country. I'd gone to Chicago, New York… There were a handful of actors that we talked about.” Said the casting director Jane Jenkins.
Production assistant Craig Campobasso also weighed in, nothing that Kilmer was the first choice. “Val Kilmer, of course, because Val was actually the number one choice up until Kyle did his screen test. Paul-Muad'Dib is not an easy character. Kyle made it look easy, but if you saw all the other actors struggling...”
Kevin CostnerOrion Pictures
Kevin Costner was another name who auditioned for the role of Paul. But as detailed in the book, Costner eventually lost the role because he couldn’t do justice to it.
“Kevin Costner did not. It's not that they're bad actors; they just didn't fit the criteria for Paul-Muad'Dib because you're looking for this inner strength,” said Campobasso. He recalled Costner being very nervous during the audition. “Kevin Costner wasn't known at that time, and I do remember him being nervous because I helped him get into the costume of Paul-Muad'Dib and I could feel his sense of nerves about it.”
Further, Michael Biehn and Lewis Smith, too, were up for the role but, like Costner, didn’t have what it took to be Muad’Dib.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick’s Horror Film Has ‘Meta Stuff’ About Their Family
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married since 1988. They raised two children as they kept their acting careers alive. The couple is now co-directors and co-stars with their adult children in a movie called Family Movie. They revealed what it was like to direct together and base the story on their family dynamic.
The horror comedy follows a filmmaking family finding a body while making a slasher. They try to save their production by covering up the murder.
Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon Disagreed While Making Family Movie View this post on InstagramThe spouses adorably talked about the perk of working on the same film. "Normally we’d go off and we’d work and then we come home. We’d say 'the coolest thing happened today,' and you’d talk about what the process was," Bacon, 67, told The Hollywood Reporter at the SXSW premiere. "Sometimes it was a nightmare, but a lot of times there was a really fun moment. All the moments we’ve shared — all the good ones, all the bad ones, all the exciting ones — that’s really cool and unusual, then to share it with the kids as well."
The family was inspired to work together during the COVID-19 lockdown in L.A. "We didn’t really think that the kids were going to be down for that," the father said. "We called them up, and they were like, 'Sure.'"
The couple and their kids, Sosie and Travis spoke to writers separately to develop the story. "So [Dan Beers] got some insider knowledge of the family," Sedgwick, 60, said. "There is meta stuff going on for sure. My desire to hurt people that hurt my family is monumental." The mother later described her character as "fantastically schizophrenic."
Of course, the couple wasn't always on the same page as directors. "There were a couple of times where we didn’t agree and then he figured out I was right," Sedgwick said, laughing.
Family Movie currently doesn't have a date for a wider release.
Carvel Celebrates 75 Years of an Iconic Treat With a Sweet Deal
Carvel is celebrating the diamond anniversary of its iconic UFO-inspired treat, Flying Saucer ice cream sandwiches, with a very sweet deal.
While the treat may seem pretty synonymous with the brand, it wasn't always that way. In fact, Carvel existed for nearly 20 years before it welcomed the Flyer Saucer. Debuting in 1951, at the height of the UFO craze, Carvel's take on the ice cream sandwich has remained a staple in pop culture (and, arguably, so have the conspiracies surrounding unidentified flying objects).
"For 75 years, the Flying Saucer has brought generations of fans together over something joyful and delicious," Marissa Sharpless, vice president of marketing at Carvel, shared in a statement on Thursday. "From Tom Carvel's first roadside stand in 1934 to the creation of the Flying Saucer during the 1950s UFO craze, our brand has always embraced a spirit of imagination and fun. This crash landing is our way of celebrating that legacy and the joy of play that has always been at the heart of Carvel."
Carvel Celebrates 75th Anniversary of Flying Saucers With a Sweet DealCarvel's original Flying Saucers feature the company's cult-favorite original soft serve sandwiched between two chocolate wafers. Fans can have it made with any of Carvel's soft-serve ice cream flavors (chocolate, vanilla, chocolate-vanilla twist, mint, strawberry, or pistachio) and can add Chocolate Crunchies or sprinkles. More recently, the company introduced chocolate chip cookies as the sandwich option, instead of the chocolate wafers.

In honor of the major milestone and the first day of spring, Carvel is knocking the price of Flying Saucers down to just 75 cents on Friday, March 20. The sweet deal is only available at participating locations, where it's valid on individual Flying Saucers in vanilla or chocolate flavors and excludes any add-ons (so don't expect to grab a six-pack with Chocolate Crunchies for 75 cents). That said, the company is also offering markdowns on its multipacks throughout the weekend.

- West Palm Beach, Florida – known for its original slanted roof, this location was used by founder Tom Carvel to test new products during his winters in Florida and has been owned by the same family since the 70s.

Oncologists Are Begging You To Stop Making This Microwave Mistake Immediately
It can feel like everything is a cancer risk these days, even items that used to be considered "good" for our overall health (we see you, red wine). However, it goes without saying that "cancer" is a scary word, and the steady stream of information on social media and in headlines about risks can become a lot to handle.
"Understanding cancer risk can feel overwhelming, but learning which everyday habits may contribute to risk helps people make practical and empowering choices," points out Dr. Brian Helfand, MD, Ph.D., a urologic oncologist and the division chief of urology at Endeavor Health.
This information is especially vital when you consider that we can't make empowering choices about certain cancer risk factors.
"The number one risk factor for most cancers is age, and this is something that cannot be controlled," reports Dr. Adeel Khan, MD, MPH, MS, a hematologist/oncologist and epidemiologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. "Other factors, such as genetic predisposition and underlying health conditions, are also not modifiable in today’s age."
In short, the advice to "control the controllables" holds for reducing cancer risk. In terms of foods you eat, you may have heard that processed meats can increase your likelihood of developing some cancers. Yet it's not just what you eat, but how you prepare it, including microwaving.
"Typically, cancer develops over many years, and repeated exposures to harmful substances can accumulate in the body over time," Dr. Helfand adds. "By focusing on modifiable behaviors such as food preparation and storage, individuals can reduce potential risks without fear or drastic lifestyle changes."
Speaking of which, oncologists are begging you to quit one microwave shortcut because it might contribute to cancer risk. Giving it up won't require anything drastic, either. Here's what you need to know.
Stop Making This One Common Microwave Mistake ASAP, Oncologists SayOncologists are begging people to stop microwaving food in plastic containers. "When plastic is heated in the microwave, chemicals such as BPA, phthalates or styrene may leach into food, particularly if the plastic is old, scratched or exposed to high heat or fatty foods," Dr. Helfand tells Parade. "Repeated exposure to these substances over time may disrupt hormones or contribute to cellular damage."
Indeed, research, including from 2024, suggests that microplastic exposure can contribute to cancers, including lung and colon cancer.
Dr. Khan states that the issue with heating food in plastic stems from how microwaves operate in the first place.
"Microwaves work by emitting radiation targeting and exciting water molecules, and this heats up food, as most food has a high water content," he shares. "However, when this occurs in the presence of plastic, leeching of the plastic as small particles, microplastics and nanoplastics, directly into the food occurs."
Dr. Helfand understands why people take this "microwave shortcut."
"Many people microwave plastic simply because it is convenient and quick," he says. "Leftovers are often stored in plastic containers. In addition, takeout food packaging is commonly reheated, and some individuals assume that 'microwave-safe' labeling means it is completely risk-free."
Dr. Helfand adds that many people may not know about the potential for chemical leaching, which may contribute to cancer odds. To be clear, we're still learning a lot about the risks of microplastics.
"While the exact risk from occasional exposure is unclear, minimizing heat-related chemical migration is a prudent approach," he explains.
Related: The Popular Cooking Method Oncologists Are Begging People To Limit
Chemicals in Plastics Linked to CancerDr. Helfand reports that several chemicals in plastics have raised some potential concerns of cancer risks, including:
- Bisphenol A (BPA). He shares that BPA's purpose is to harden plastics and line food cans. Yet he notes that data show that BPA can mimic hormones, such as estrogen. It can potentially interfere with hormone signalling.
- Phthalates. Dr. Helfand says that companies will add phthalates to make plastics, especially wraps and containers, more flexible, but that this may disrupt hormone function.
- Styrene. This chemical is used in foam containers and packaging. "Styrene can migrate into food when heated and is considered a possible carcinogen based on occupational and animal studies," he says.
- Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). You may hear these referred to as "forever chemicals," and Dr. Khan shares that you can find them in food liners because they resist water, stains and impurities. "PFAS, however, are linked to kidney, testicular and other cancers."
Remember, the data is new and evolving. The aim is to take what we do know and use it to operate from a place of empowerment rather than fear.

What To Do Instead of Microwaving Food in PlasticFirst things first, don't spiral. "If you have been microwaving plastic, there is no reason to panic," Dr. Helfand explains. "Cancer risk is driven by cumulative exposure over many years rather than occasional behaviors."
Still, he suggests approaching heating food differently. "Although there is no clearly defined safe exposure level, reducing exposure moving forward is a sensible and effective step," Dr. Helfand advises. "Small changes made consistently over time can meaningfully lower potential risk."
He shares that safer alternatives to microwaving plastic include:
- Transfer food to a glass, ceramic or microwave-safe stoneware dish before heating.
- Using a microwave-safe lid, parchment paper or a paper towel instead of plastic wrap can help prevent splattering.
- Not reheating food in takeout containers, margarine tubs or disposable packaging.
- Allowing hot foods to cool slightly before storing them in plastic
Speaking of storage, Dr. Helfand suggests using glass or stainless steel containers to stash leftovers (these materials are also safer for water bottles).
"Choosing fresh or frozen foods instead of heavily packaged items, avoiding hot liquids in plastic bottles and replacing scratched or worn containers can also help [lower exposure]," he says.

Bob Barker's Darkest Secrets From 'Dirty Rotten Scandals: The Price Is Right'
Bob Barker was a beloved TV fixture for decades as the host of The Price Is Right—but behind the toothy grin and tailored suit lurked a much darker side, according to Dirty Rotten Scandals: The Price Is Right.
The docuseries featured interviews with former The Price Is Right models (nicknamed "Bob's Beauties"), producers and staff, each recalling their own experiences from their time on the daytime staple game show. Dirty Rotten Scandals: The Price Is Right premiered Wednesday, March 18 on E! with two back-to-back episodes.
According to the former Price Is Right staffer in the show, the set was rife with racism, sexual harassment and retaliation behind the scenes, and they allege that Barker himself was at the center of a lot of the scandals.
Barker retired from the show in 2007. He died at age 99 from Alzheimer's in 2023.
In Dirty Rotten Scandals, the longtime host is said to have struggled with his mental health for a spell, not long after which he allegedly began a sexual relationship with one of the show's models. When the affair went south, the interviewees allege, so did the entire environment on the set.
"It took a toll," model Holly Hallstrom said. "There was fighting on the sets, yelling, and it was massive. And it ultimately, I think, destroyed The Price is Right." (That is, until the adorable, wholesome and scandal-free Drew Carey took over!)
All of that's just the tip of the iceberg. Come on down and find out what other bad behavior was allegedly showcased on the show.
Bob Barker was suicidal after his wife's sudden death Dorothy Jo and Bob BarkerBob Barker and his wife, Dorothy Jo, were high school sweethearts. Dorothy Jo, a teacher and dancer, and Barker eloped in 1945 while Barker was on leave from his training as a Navy fighter pilot in World War II.
They were together for more than 36 years when she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1981. She succumbed to the disease that October at age 57, leaving Barker devastated beyond a healthy level of grief.
Former The Price Is Right producer Barbara Hunter revealed that Barker suffered from suicidal ideation after Dorothy Jo's passing, in part because she died so soon after her diagnosis that it was difficult for Barker to process the loss.
"They went to Hawaii in August and she was diagnosed with lung cancer and died two months later. Bob really went into a funk after that," Hunter said in Dirty Rotten Scandals: The Price Is Right. "He was ready to take his own life. That's what he shared with me."

Bob Barker's personality changed sharply once he was a widowerHunter wasn't the only person who noticed a change in Barker's demeanor after Dorothy Jo's death.
Hallstrom said that following Dorothy Jo's passing, Barker's personality darkened and his ego ballooned.
"He was devastated, really, by her death. There was a long period of mourning," she recalled. "And then, all of a sudden, he became Mr. Man About Town, you know? He knew he was the star of the biggest show in daytime, and Dorothy Jo wasn't there anymore, keeping him reined in. It was like he was unleashed and turned into this narcissistic egomaniac."

Bob Barker was allegedly a virulent racist—and so were some of The Price Is Right producers Nikki Ziering, Bob Barker, Claudia Jordan and Heather Kozar on "The Price Is Right" in 2001Photo by Denny Keeler on Getty Images
Kathleen Bradley was the first Black model to be a fulltime member of "Bob's Beauties" on The Price Is Right—and if you can believe it, it took the show until 1990 to do that.
"As time went on, at some point it got back to me that some of the fans were writing negative things about me being on the show, as a Black model," Bradley revealed in Dirty Rotten Scandals.
It wasn't just the audience members who were racist against her.
"One of the members of the production team brought to my attention that, inside a production meeting, when models weren't in there, they would use the N word," she said.
In 2000, Claudia Jordan was hired on The Price Is Right, and the racism on set was still raging. She said that producer Phil Wayne specifically would make off-color remarks regularly and even sexually harass her because she was Black.
"Other comments that [Wayne] would make carried on that old spirit of racism: 'Let's make a reverse Oreo, Claudia, you get in the middle of the two white models,'" she said. "Or [he 'd] tell me I'm the 'ass model' because stereotypically, Black women have a larger behind—and I guess that's why he wanted to grab and feel it."
Jordan also alleged that both Barker and The Price Is Right producers extended their bigotry towards contestants.
"They would go through potential audience members in the line looking for contestants. It was stereotypes that were definitely pushed on the show, negative stereotypes of Black people like the overweight Black woman, or the extra loud, ridiculous person," Jordan said. "Then I started to hear that they were only allowed to have two Black contestants on the show at a time, and that was a direct order from Bob Barker—and to let Barker know the race of the contestant that's about to 'come on down.' They would have a letter B written on the card."
She added, "It was pretty sad. A Black contestant may try to hug Bob Barker and he'd kind of shrink away from them."
Bob Barker and behind-the-scenes staff stared the women on set so much that they invented their own "10-second rule"While most people think of the "10-second rule" as the amount of time you have to pick food up off the ground and eat it safely (which is a hoax, but we digress!), on the set of The Price Is Right, it meant something totally different.
Barker, producers and crew members allegedly ogled the models and women on staff so much that CBS implemented their own "10-second rule": The men could only stare at the models and female staffers for 10 seconds. Surprise, surprise: That didn't work, either.
"There was no one monitoring how long the guys were staring at the models," Hallstrom explained. "It was a joke. It was an appeasement. They did things that made it look like they were taking action, so you will stop complaining and go away."

In Dirty Rotten Scandals, Hunter said one of the male staffers on The Price Is Right outright groped her breasts while she worked there, and she was not alone.
Bradley recalled that at least one member of the crew would rub up against the models all the time, even after she complained to The Price Is Right producers, so she took matters—and a golf club from a set display—into her own hands.
"I said, 'Do you know how to play golf?' He said, 'Yeah, I play a little bit. Come here. Let me show you,'" Bradley recalled. "So I let him get behind me, and I said, 'Unh!' I backed up and accidentally hit him right in the groin—accidentally on purpose, that was. We were so exhausted and tired of the treatment, you just have to do what you have to do."
Bob Barker cheated on his longtime girlfriend Nancy Burnet with one of The Price Is Right models "The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker and Nancy Burnet in 1999Photo by Alex Wong on Getty Images
Barker's bad behavior allegedly continued even after he began dating his longtime girlfriend, Nancy Burnet, in 1983, though it manifested differently once the relationship was underway: Several of Bob's Beauties alleged that the host had a lengthy affair with one of the show's models, Dian Parkinson.
Bradley said in Dirty Rotten Scandals, "Dian confided in me—I was really kind of surprised because Bob also had a girlfriend. As time went on, people were noticing."

Bradley said that even the studio audience and viewers at home noticed Barker and Parkinson flirting, hugging and standing close together. The affair eventually became the worst-kept secret on the set, with Bradley noting, "[Parkinson] would go downstairs during the breaks and go into his dressing room, and that's when some hanky panky was going on."
Hallstrom said that everyone on the set, from the models to the crew, began deferring to Parkinson once their affair became common knowledge, explaining, "Everyone was basically kissing her behind because she may potentially be the new Mrs. Barker."

Bob Barker's racism played a role in breaking off his affairBurnet found out about his affair with Parkinson and called Hallstrom to discuss it.
Hallstrom recalled discussing Parkinson's previous romantic and sexual history with Burnet, noting that Parkinson had dated other celebrities. Those celebrities, she said included "several Black men," which Hallstrom said Burnet allegedly used as ammunition to get Barker to break off the affair.
Hallstrom said that Burnet told her, "'Oh my gosh, Bob has no idea that he's had sex with a woman who has had sex with Black men. Bob has always said that Black men are the most diseased people on Earth.'"
When Barker found out that Parkinson had previously dated men of color, the pair had a blow-up fight on the set.
"The whole set was dead silent, listening, and Dian comes out of Bob's dressing room and goes up the stairs and Bob's assistant goes running after her saying, 'Dian, you've got to apologize to Bob,'" Hallstrom said.
Parkinson rightfully refused to apologize for her sexual past, leading Barker to call time on their relationship.

Dian Parkinson was fired—then suedIn Dirty Rotten Scandals, it was revealed that Parkinson was let go from The Price Is Right after she agreed to pose for Playboy.
Bradley quipped, "Pretty much, that was the end of Dian Parkinson being on The Price Is Right."
She added, "Dian was not happy. She was very bitter. She wanted to get back at him ... She said, 'He was sexually harassing me and forcing me to do things to him in the dressing room, where I didn't want to do it. And I'm going to get my attorney, I'm going to file a sexual harassment lawsuit against them.'"
Parkinson did, in fact, file a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment, and it impacted the rest of the models on the Price Is Right set.
"Every time you went to the studio, you had to sit with lawyers who wanted to hear was all the bad stuff about Dian and how Bob could not have possibly sexually harassed Dian," Hallstrom said. "I wanted nothing to do with it. I was the only one that was asked to give a deposition and did not. I didn't want to commit felony perjury, which is exactly what it would have been if I gave a testimony."
One of "Bob's Beauties" was fired for her weight—and fighting back cost her everything Holly Hallstrom on "The Price Is Right" in 1978Photo by CBS Photo Archive on Getty Images
In 1995, after Hallstrom refused to sit for a deposition for Parkinson's lawsuit, producers warned her that her weight was becoming a problem and limited her screen time dramatically. Hallstrom, who's 5'11" and had been a fixture on the show for 18 years, said she gained 14 pounds as a side effect of prescribed steroid medication. She stopped taking her medication and shed some of the pounds she'd put on—even though, for the record, she was still striking and no normal person would've even noticed her weight gain.
"They couldn't use the 'Well, she refused to lie for me' excuse to get rid of me, so they said it was because of my weight," Hallstrom said. "That's when I knew I was being set up. When I didn't agree, that's when the whole thing blew up. Then lawyers called me and started negotiating the terms of retirement, and I said, 'But I don't want to retire! There's no need for me to retire!' But there really was no choice. Barker wanted me gone. I was being fired and I wouldn't be coming back."
After she was let go, The Price Is Right reportedly distributed a press release about her exit that didn't reflect Hallstrom's reality. She responded by going on Hard Copy and detailing what she alleged really happened.
She recalled going off of her medication to lose some of the weight she'd put on, and instead of being happy with her progress, said Barker's attorneys fired off a letter denying that they ever instructed her to go off of her prescribed meds.

After appearing on Hard Copy, Barker sued Hallstrom for defamation, after which she said no one else from the show would speak to her or return her calls, making her feel alone.
"It was the worst thing in my whole life because with Barker, it was like fighting a giant machine," Hallstrom said. "It was overwhelming and it stayed that way for a couple of years."

In 2000, five years after Barker sued her and just days before the case was set to go to trial, he dropped the lawsuit. Hallstrom filed her own lawsuit against Barker for malicious prosecution. She said that his legal team offered her a settlement in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), but she refused.
"I knew that I was not going to sign an NDA because [Barker] is a liar. He is a shameless, self-promoting liar. I was fired," she said. "I had the truth on my side. There was no justice in, 'You can win because you have more money.' Over the years, I sold my house, savings account, portfolio—all of it was spent just trying to stay in this lawsuit. I just didn't want him to win."
"I lost everything. I was totally broke and living out of my car," she said. "I would just stay with friends and family because at the moment, I couldn't afford to stay in this lawsuit and I would have to settle, and I was not going to do that."
Two other models sued The Price Is RightBradley and fellow model Janice Pennington both sued for wrongful termination after they were fired from The Price Is Right in 2000.
"I was numb. I couldn't even think. I called Janice and she said, 'You know that bastard fired me as well?'" Bradley said. "Janice, she was in there 29 years. I was there 18 years. It was so hurtful to let go so abruptly, without cause, without a goodbye. That was the most cowardly thing Mr. Bob Barker, I think, had ever done in his life."

According to Bradley, half a dozen people were fired at once.
"Eventually, the truth came out why all six of us were fired," she said. "We all refused to lie to save Barker's ass. Janice and I put in a lawsuit for wrongful termination. They did give us a nice little settlement."

'The Price Is Right' Model Holly Hallstrom Drops Bombshell Truth Behind Her Firing: 'I Was on His S--T List'
The Price is Right may have been one of the most popular game shows, but it was riddled with drama behind the scenes. Holly Hallstrom was one of Bob Barker's "beauties" and reveals what led to her "early retirement" and firing.
Following E!'s Dirty Rotten Scandals docuseries, Hallstrom spoke with People to talk about the issues that occurred after Dian Parkinson's affair with Barker became a public blowout. As Parkinson's filed a lawsuit against the TV host for sexual harassment, Hallstrom was one of the employees asked to testify, and she refused.
She revealed in the documentary that employees sat down with a lawyer to talk about the affair, and she was the only one asked to give a deposition. Knowing what they wanted, she refused to testify because she didn't want to commit "felony perjury," also known as giving a false statement.
"I was on his s--t list and I knew it," Hallstrom told People. "I refused to testify in court, to commit felony perjury for him. That was the final straw, but it's against the law to fire an employee for failing to testify on your behalf in a court of law. So they could not fire me for that."

To her surprise, Barker came up with another excuse to get her off the show by stating she was "overweight." She even brought it up when asking for the reasoning behind her firing, and it led to Barker going on the defensive as he got hate mail from fans after Hallstrom left.
"Barker experienced a bombardment of hate mail for the first time ever, and he went out and told everyone that I was lying, that weight was never mentioned. It became absolute insanity. How can you say I was not fired because of my weight when I was cut out of 50% of the show, and when I was on camera, I was hidden away behind automobiles and large appliances because of my weight problem, according to the director?" Hallstrom explained.
Things only got worse after Parkinson dropped her lawsuit against Barker, and he zoomed in on the Hallstrom. He wanted her gone, with the lawyers negotiating terms for her retirement, despite her insistence that she wasn't ready to retire. Ultimately, Hallstrom left "after nearly 20 years on the show. I was devastated."
Hallstrom explains that things got worse when she refused to accept the settlement and sign the non-disclosure agreement. She exposed the truth on Hard Copy and led Barker to file a defamation lawsuit that wiped her out financially. He dropped the lawsuit before it went to trial, and Hallstrom filed for malicious prosecution that ended in a settlement.
How to Avoid the Dreaded Green Ring Around Your Hard-Boiled Egg Yolks, According to a Fifth-Generation Chicken Keeper
With Easter almost here already, you might have eggs on your mind. Maybe you'll stuff plastic ones with candy and hide them in your yard and/or turn some into a quiche, a frittata or a perfect scramble (a la Jacques Pépin) for Easter brunch. Or maybe you're planning on hosting this year, and deviled eggs are on the menu.
Deviled eggs start with hard-boiled eggs, of course, and one of the keys to perfect deviled eggs is an expertly cooked egg. But despite your best efforts, sometimes you cut into your eggs and there's a green ring around the yolk. Ugh!
To figure out what causes the dreaded green ring and, more importantly, how to prevent it, we talked with Lisa Steele, a fifth-generation chicken keeper, founder of the Fresh Eggs Daily blog, author of The Fresh Eggs Daily Cookbook and host of Welcome to My Farm on CreateTV and American Public Television.
Here's everything you need to know to avoid the green ring around your hard-boiled egg yolk so you can have picture-perfect deviled eggs for Easter—and the rest of the year.

Why Do Hard-Boiled Egg Yolks Turn Green?Let's start with the science, shall we? "It's a chemical reaction," says Steele. "There is hydrogen sulfide in the egg white, and that combines with iron sulfide that's in the egg yolk. So as you heat an egg, the proteins break down and they start to release sulfur gases, which is that smell that you get when you cook eggs. The gases react with the iron and that turns the surface of the yolk a greenish grayish color."
Older eggs can also be more prone to cooking up with green yolks. Steele says that as an egg ages the alkaline level in the white increases, which can hasten the chemical reaction that leads to green yolks.

How Do You Prevent Egg Yolks From Turning Green?Because the chemical reaction that leads to green yolks is triggered by heat, it's important to cook your eggs more slowly and gently. Steele's favorite method? Steaming them. "I eat like a billion eggs a year," says Steele. "I have not seen one of those green rings in years since I started steaming my eggs."
Here's how she prefers to steam her eggs:
- Set up your steamer. Add a few inches of water to a bot and add a steamer insert or basket. If you don't have either, Steele says a bamboo steamer or colander will work. You just want to keep the eggs up and out of the water and you want to make sure you can get a lid on your pot to trap the steam.
- Add the eggs. Once the water comes to a boil, add your eggs. Steels says she hasn't noticed much of a difference between steaming room-temperature eggs or ones straight out of the fridge.
- Cook 'em. Cover and let the eggs steam for 12 minutes. While the eggs steam, put some water and ice in a medium to large bowl.
- Chill 'em. As soon as the 12 minutes are up, transfer the eggs to the ice bath. This will help them peel more easily and is also another way to prevent the green ring. "They should go right into an ice bath because that releases the pressure in the egg really quickly," says Steele. "It forces the hydrogen sulfide away from the yolk and toward the shell, which would prevent the ring from creating around the yolk."

Is It OK to Eat Eggs With a Green Yolk?Steele assures us that it's safe to eat eggs with a green yolk. Although the eggs might smell a little extra sulfurous when they overcook, the green color won't affect the taste that much.

What Can You Do if Your Egg Yolks Turn Green?Things happen, and sometimes life gives you green egg yolks. If you find yourself in that situation, Steel says to lean into it. "I'd say add some avocado to the filling and add some spices too."
Some cooks like to use avocado instead of mayo, which gives the filling a rich taste, a fresh flavor and a green hue, which is what you're looking for if you're in this situation.
