Feral Cat’s ‘Rainbow Kittens’ Are a Total Miracle
Feral cats are unfortunate, but they're also everywhere. As spring approaches, people are more aware of the feral cat crisis for one reason: it's mating season. This is the time of year when feral cats need to be spayed, or else you'll have a bunch of feral kittens.
One feral cat was recently rescued from the streets, but not before she gave birth to some of the cutest kittens ever. She gave birth to a kitten in every color, and they're perfect in every single way:
@phoenixferalsI rescued an obviously extremely pregnant feral cat who immediately went into labor before I could get her to the clinic 🥲 When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade! Spay aborts are always the kindest and most ethical option for feral cats, but sometimes, you don’t TNR in time before those babies are coming! Miss mama Mila gave birth to 5 perfect and healthy kittens - a tortie, some black/brown tabbies, an orange tabby, and a buff orange baby. They are truly the cutest things I’ve ever seen, and they are going to break my heart when they’re up for adoption in May 😅🥲🥹🩷🩵 #kittensoftiktok #feralrescue #tnrsaveslives #spayandneuter #torbiecat
♬ Beach baby - Amber RoughtThe Phoenix Ferals are the cutest little rescue crew ever. Mila, the mama of the bunch, is a Calico cat. She ended up giving birth to 5 kittens before her new mom could get her into the clinic:
- One Tortoiseshell.
- Two black and brown Tabbies.
- One orange Tabby.
- One fully orange female cat.
The babies are all happy, healthy, and will be up for adoption in May. For now, they're hanging out with their mom, and they're being brought up in a loving home. I just know these cats are going to have some attitude to them!

Mila the Cat Needed HelpThough we're not exactly sure how old Mama Mila is, we know that she was found at night in a random parking lot. She's fully feral and was clearly pregnant, and the woman who rescued her works with feral cats for TNVR: Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Release.
@phoenixferalsIn the world of rescue, things don’t always go as planned. When I trapped this pregnant feral cat on Friday night, I was praying she’d make it until I could get her to a clinic Monday morning. But mama Mila had different plans. Within hours, she’d already began labor, and by Monday morning, we already had babies 🥲 As adorable as baby kittens are, it’s hardly ideal to keep a feral mama in captivity as the stress can take a toll on her mental health and how she cares (or doesn’t care) for the babies. But when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade! We are giving Mama Mila lots of human-free alone time and all the food and comfort she’s willing to accept 🩷 It seems like this isn’t her first rodeo, and she’s taken to mothering like a champ 🥹 A few days in, and the little m&m’s are growing like weeds. In May, the babies will go up for adoption through @tubbytabbyrescue, and Mama Mila’s fate is in her own hands. We’d love for her to warm up and choose to be an indoor pet, but we recognize that sometimes the best happy ending for ferals is to be spayed and released back to their colony. We will love Mila in whatever ways she’s willing to accept 🩷 Follow along to watch the little babies grow up! #catrescue #spayandneuter #newbornbabies
♬ Second Chances - Gregory Alan IsakovShe had planned to take her to the clinic and have her spayed as soon as possible, which would also terminate the pregnancy, but Mila gave birth before that could happen. Apparently, she really wanted those kittens! She's lucky: all of them are happy, healthy, and perfect.
How to Help Feral CatsSpring is here, and with spring comes so many kittens that it's overwhelming. While you might want to rescue a feral cat and bring them home forever, a lot of them simply won't tolerate that. You need to have other ways to help.

The best way you can help feral cats is by making sure as many of them are vaccinated and spayed/neutered as possible. Not only will that prevent the spread of disease, but it will also help control the population. If you can't trap the cats yourself, reach out to a local shelter/TNVR organization. They provide:
- Vaccinations.
- Spays/spay aborts for pregnant ferals, and neutering.
- In some cases, relocation.
Many organizations work with local farmers/landowners to place them as barn cats. City life is dangerous, especially for feral cats. Luckily, Mila and her babies are safe now!

“Love the outfit,” shared another, “And those eyes.”
“This is the most adorable dog I’ve ever seen,” wrote another, echoing the sentiments of many.
Cocker Spaniels are known for their furry, floppy ears, but many also have what can best be described as heart-shaped noses. The breed’s signature look is due to the rounded, soft structure of their muzzle, which often features a slight indentation in the leather of the nose, giving it a heart-like appearance. Their well-developed nostrils, combined with their finely shaped facial features, help create this unique and adorable trait.
On rare occasions, some Cocker Spaniels even appear to have double heart-shaped noses.

Blind Golden Retriever Wags His Tail Through His Whole Birthday Song
Golden Retrievers are known for being joyful dogs, but one very special birthday boy recently reminded the internet just how much happiness a dog can bring. A blind Golden Retriever named Mason celebrated his 12th birthday in the sweetest way possible, sitting proudly on the front stoop next to his dog dad while his family sang to him.
And the entire time, Mason’s tail never stopped wagging.

As the song continues, Mason looks relaxed and happy, wagging his tail the entire time, like he fully understands this party is all about him.

If you want to celebrate your own pup’s birthday like Mason, making a dog-friendly cake is easier than many people think. There are plenty of simple recipes online that use ingredients that are safe and enjoyable for dogs.
Dog birthday cakes are usually made from ingredients like peanut butter, pumpkin, applesauce, bananas, oats, or whole-wheat flour. Some recipes also include yogurt or mashed sweet potatoes as a simple frosting.
The key is to avoid ingredients that can be harmful to dogs, such as chocolate, artificial sweeteners like xylitol, or excessive sugar.
Many pet parents like to keep things simple with a small homemade cake or even just a special treat shaped like a cupcake. The important part is making the moment fun and safe for your fur baby.
Why To Celebrate Your Dog's Birthday Tiny Chihuahua celebrating a birthday.Image Via: Pixel-Shot/Shutterstock
Dogs bring so much joy into our lives that celebrating them just makes sense. Whether it is their actual birthday or the anniversary of the day you adopted them, marking the occasion can be a fun way to show appreciation for your furry family member.
A celebration doesn't have to be fancy. It could be something as simple as an extra-long walk, a trip to the dog park, or a new toy. Some families go all out with dog parties, special treats, and friends coming over with their pups.
Whatever the party looks like, one thing is certain. Dogs like Mason remind us that the happiest moments are often the simplest ones, like sitting with the people you love and enjoying a really good piece of cake.

Mini Dapple Dachshund Has Hilarious Tantrum When Mom Won't Share Her Mac and Cheese
Both of my dogs shamelessly beg whenever anyone has a meal or snack. My Dachshund and my Pug mix will whine, bark, and paw at whoever dares to eat in their presence until they get their share. We've tried training them out of it, though we could have been more consistent. They never give up, even though most of the time, we don't give in.
Bunny the Dachshund would probably fit right in at our house since she also gets demanding when it comes to sharing food.
@shybunnydachshundSassy shy!!! #minidaschund #dogmom #girldog
♬ original sound - shy bunny 🌸In the TikTok from @shybunnydachshund, the precious pooch sat next to her mom and barked, clearly upset about something.
"My Mini Dachshund when I won't share my Goodles with her," the onscreen text read.
Apparently, her mom was eating Goodles macaroni and cheese, and Bunny felt she should get a portion. The pup persisted in her quest for her share and made it clear she wasn't backing down.
Bunny dug at her mom's blanket, then stopped and gave her a hard stare. More barking ensued when the Doxie's demands weren't met, and she even waved her paws in the air to express her mounting frustration.
The canine cutie pulled out all the stops with her little tantrum and held an expression of disbelief when her mom didn't cave. Followers felt that Bunny deserved a bowl.
"She’s so cute... I would fold immediately and share," one admitted.
"So why didn’t you give her any Goodles?" another questioned.
"How can you deny her face?" a follower asked.
"She’s making very valid points, though," someone noted.
"This would work way too easily on me," a fan shared.
Dachshunds Are Notoriously StubbornBunny's refusal to back down may be genetic. Dachshunds are known for having a stubborn streak and prefer to have the last word.
Related: Dachshund Refuses to Eat Plain Kibble and Demands Gourmet Meal for Dinner
These little dogs with big personalities were originally bred to be highly independent when hunting prey. Dachshunds tend to follow their own instincts and prefer being in charge, which is why many ignore their parents' commands and can more challenging to train than other breeds. Still, Dachshunds are highly intelligent and can learn obedience with consistent training.
Yet when it comes to mac and cheese, Bunny may have a hard time taking no for an answer.

Amazon's Freeze-Dried Minnow Treats Will Change Your Cat's Life
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Looking for a treat that will be purrrfect for your cat? Or maybe a treat that's so enticing, it will be the perfect choice for training your kitty? Then look no further than this enticing Amazon treat that your cat is going to love. (And I know this from personal — or should I say "purrsonal" — experience!)
The Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Raw Minnows Cat Treats are just $12 on Amazon for a one-ounce pack, and your cat won't be able to get enough of them.
My one-year old cat is absolutely in love with these treats (and I'm not exaggerating.) He's a tabby cat who is part Siamese kitty, and has endless amounts of energy — the type of kitty who plays fetch all day and is eager to be trained. When we pulled out these treats, he went bonkers just from the smell. And then when he tried them... Well, he was even more excited about these than his Churus, and meowed and begged for more.
When you take these out of the bag, they're about two inches long and look like a full-sized minnow (complete with head and tail.) I suggest breaking them up into smaller pieces and giving them to your cat one piece at a time. If you toss one across the room, your kitty will chase it down!
According to the manufacturer, these are great for digestive health thanks to the natural enzyme, have amino acids that help with lean, strong muscles, and the whole animal protein will make your kitty more energetic.

Shop it!These minnows are carefully sourced from USDA-inspected, GFSI-certified suppliers, and take only "45 minutes to blast freezer from harvest," according to the manufacturer. They're freeze dried slowly to lock in essential nutrients.
Why Your Cat Will Love These TreatsI'm not the only one who loves these treats! They have a 4.4 out of 5 star rating on Amazon, and customers say their cats love the treats' satisfying potato-chip like crunch (which is absolutely accurate.)
Check out some of the 5-star reviews:
- "I bought these as a high-protein, minimal-ingredient treat option and they’ve been a big hit right away... These are truly single-ingredient treats—just freeze-dried whole minnows, nothing added."
- "Every cat I’ve tried these with reacts immediately. Even picky eaters show strong interest, and they’re especially useful as a high-value reward or food topper."
- "My cat loves these treats! He is extremely picky and will turn his nose up at most cat treats, but not these. He searches out the cabinet I keep them in and will sit by it meowing until I give him one."
Don't hesitate about the Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Raw Minnows Cat Treats. They're a single-ingredient product that even picky kitties love. Whether you're looking for a topper to your cat's meals or a high-value reward during training, these are a great choice.

This Cat Carrier Will Have You Looking Chic at Your Pet’s Next Vet Appointment
If you're a feline guardian, the thought of your cat needing a trip to the vet may fill you with anxiety. Whether they are going for an annual exam or a trip when they are sick, the thought of putting them in their carrier and making the trek is stressful. My cats are far from cooperative when it's time to put them in a carrier. I used to travel between Los Angeles and the Bay Area with them often. They could not stand the thought of going into their carriers.
Finding a carrier that your pets are comfortable in can be difficult because let's face it: our cats do not want to be contained. You may spend countless hours browsing online for the perfect travel home for your best friend. Plus, you may want something that looks fashionable. Of course, practicality comes before style when carting your companion around, but what if you could have both? Well, this carrier from Tuft & Paw fulfills both.

When looking for a pet carrier, I checked the company's website for a pet carrier, and what I found was not only cute, but also functional.
The Porto Cat Carrier is described on the website as being a first-class carrier, and that's not false advertising. The carrier itself is sleek, and you can choose between black and sand colors, both of which look chic.

Although the stylish look is a plus, it's not our top priority as pet parents. What I like best about this carrier is the breathable mesh. Your cat will be able to see out while also feeling secure.
I also liked that the carrier's shell is water-resistant. If you're a cat parent, you know that it's not uncommon for accidents to happen on the road. The Porto is easy to clean, and it also converts to a comfy bed.
If your furry friend is a jet-setter, rest assured that this carrier is airline-approved for comfort in the sky as well.
The Porto Cat Carrier retails for $109, and it's worth the investment for a cozy cat carrier you and your furry friend will love. Your cat will thank you later.

Rescue Cockatoo With 'Bald Spots' Heals Thanks to Bond With New Mom
With so many amazing pets on social media, it's easy to forget that some of them didn't get the best start in life. They may be thriving now, but so many rescues had to put in the work of healing past traumas to fully accept their new, happy endings.
This perfectly describes Sweet Pea, one of the most precious rescued Cockatoos on the internet. But of all the videos her mom has shared of the sweet girl being her sweet self, it's important to remember how things began.

You don't have to know Sweet Pea's entire journey to see how brave and strong this Cockatoo is, and so much of it has to do with the bond she has with her new mom. A little love goes a long way with any rescued pet, and this amazing bird is proof.

It's the reason her more than 1.1 million TikTok followers tune in for the latest update every day. There are a lot of cool, entertaining, sweet, and funny Cockatoos on the web, but Sweet Pea is truly in a league of her own.
You wouldn't think responding to a Craigslist ad about a Cockatoo for adoption would turn into this. Sweet Pea, with all her adorable quirks, was meant to find her mom, and I think the feeling is mutual.
@theparrotladyI found my amazing cockatoo, Sweet Pea, on Craigslist and bringing her into my home was one of the best decisions of my life. Cockatoos are unbelievably smart and Sweet Pea has one characteristic that makes me laugh every day 🤣 #cockatoo #parrot #adoptdontshop #fyp #storytime
♬ Chopin Nocturne No. 2 Piano Mono - moshimo sound design How Much Time Do Cockatoos Need To Adjust to a New Home?Much like any rescued cat or dog, Cockatoos joining a new family need approximately two to three months to fully adjust and let their personalities shine through. The general rule of thumb is 3-3-3: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to get used to the home, family, and routines, and 3 months to settle in.
It can take some longer, especially if they had a less-than-happy past, but these intelligent and sensitive souls need to know they're safe through consistency, patience, and love—all of which worked in helping a devoted Sweet Pea heal and find hope and happiness again.

German Shepherd Puppy’s First Bark Has the Best Reason Behind It
The moment a puppy decides to bark for the first time is a huge milestone. When it will happen depends on the puppy: my youngest Boston Terrier's first-ever bark was literally at me, the second I walked in to pick her up. We get along great...
One German Shepherd puppy has been holding in his big boy bark. He was waiting for just the right moment, and just a few days ago, he managed to find it. The reason is really something special:
@gabbyxbellCreed standing on business - No littering on our watch! #germanshepherd #puppy #bark
♬ sorry i can't hear you i'm kinda busy - life illustratedCreed the German Shepherd is just like me. I also start barking when I see someone littering on the ground! He saw the litter on a walk, and he couldn't believe it. He was so upset that someone would do that that he finally broke his vow of silence.
The best part is that barking at it wasn't enough: he ended up going over to it and making sure to tear it up. His mom took it away pretty quickly, but not before he got the last word! That bag will never come around again!
Related: German Shepherd Puppy Busts Out of His Playpen Like a Tiny Jailbreaker
Creed is about 10 weeks old. He typically doesn't bark: when he needs to vocalize, it's mostly whining and crying. He's a good boy, but he's a little bit of a crybaby. Such can be said about 99% of German Shepherds!
When he's not barking at litter or whining about something else, you'll usually find him running around the house. He's even got a GoPro attached to his collar, and it's the funniest think you'll see all day:
@gabbyxbellReplying to @GoPro We have been running around all day playing with our new @GoPro and this has TIRED our little creed monster out more than any other toy 😭 what a blessing #germanshepherd #puppy #gopro
♬ original sound - GabbyxbellIt makes him look like a little alligator. I think I need to do this to my dogs, too!
German Shepherds Love BarkingGerman Shepherds are not the kind of dog you should get if you like peace and quiet. They're very smart, and you can train them to refrain from barking, but there will still be times when they can't help themselves.
Adult German Shepherd barking.Image via Shutterstock / CrystalBphotos
German Shepherds are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, but they're also one of the most difficult, in part because they're so loud. A German Shepherd might bark or otherwise "mouth off" when they're:
- Hungry
- Tired
- Bored
- In pain
- Lonely
If you want your German Shepherd to be quiet, one of the best ways to do that is to make sure they get enough enrichment and exercise throughout the day. A bored German Shepherd is a loud one, and a German Shepherd who sees some litter is even louder!

The #1 Way to Make Your Dog Happy, According to a Trainer
It’s easy to fall into a routine with your dog. You go for walks at a certain time every day, have your cuddle time, head to work and then repeat. But while most dogs thrive on a consistent schedule, it often takes more than a basic routine to truly satisfy your dog’s emotional needs. To find out the number one way to make your dog happy and improve their quality of life, keep reading!
“Dogs have been domesticated for as long as 30,000 years,” points out Elisha Stynchula, CPDT-KA, certified dog trainer and owner of I Said Sit School for Dogs. “For thousands of years, humans have spent hours a day working with their dogs. Hunting, herding and farm work are just a few things we have done with our dogs, and now so many dogs don’t get to do anything.”
That doesn’t mean your pup will be unhappy if you don’t live on a farm. In fact, some breeds aren't wired for "traditional" labor. But while every dog is an individual, Stynchula says there is a specific bonding exercise all pet owners can use to boost their pup’s mood.
Even if you feel your dog already has a great life, Stynchula notes that every dog—and pet parents—can benefit from this shift in canine communication. So, what can you do to make your dog feel happy and content? It just requires carving out a little extra time for intentional engagement. The results for your dog’s mental well-being are massive. Discover the number one secret to dog happiness below.

What makes a dog feel most loved and is guaranteed to make your dog feel happy? It’s setting aside dedicated time to connect with your dog through intentional bonding activities. “Now more than ever, it is so important that humans who have chosen to bring a dog into their lives make the time to spend with their dogs,” Stynchula says. “You have to just schedule it as something very important you have to do.”
Taking the time for quality interaction and canine enrichment doesn't just improve dog behavior, it fundamentally alters their physiology. This dedicated time lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increases levels of the love hormone oxytocin for both of you, Stynchula points out. Ultimately, focusing on your dog’s mental well-being through consistent positive reinforcement and companionship ensures a healthier, happier life for both ends of the leash.
Related: 7 Signs You Have an Unbreakable Bond with Your Dog, According to a Trainer
Expert-Approved Activities for Canine Enrichment and BondingWhat you do during your dedicated time depends entirely on your dog's unique personality and breed-specific needs. “There is a large movement in the dog training community to honor the genetic predisposition of dogs to certain activities and find ways to fulfill that,” Stynchula says.
For example, Australian Shepherds may prefer something physical that involves herding or agility, while a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel may be thrilled to play a short game of fetch around your yard, followed by cuddle time on the couch. You can even look into bigger activities you and your pooch can do together, like agility training classes, or simply set up obstacles in your yard or local park for your dog to do.
However, you don’t need to make massive gestures to have a big impact on your dog’s mental health. At a bare minimum, practicing mindful pet ownership is key. “At a bare minimum, be present with your dog,” Stynchula says. "That includes leaving your phone in your pocket so that you can fully concentrate on your pooch. Make eye contact and enjoy the time you have and let them be a dog and sniff and chew on a stick in a park.”
Above all, just try to set aside dedicated time for your dog each day. Even a few minutes of focused interaction can drastically improve your dog’s happiness and strengthen your lifelong bond. “Your dogs is so happy to just have your attention,” Stynchula says.

5 Ways Your Dog Proves It Never Forgets You
A dog's happy greetings when their owner returns home from a five-minute errand or a full day of work are one of the core joys of pet parenthood. However, if you are away from your pet for an extended period of time, such as during a military deployment, school or a very long work trip, you may be wondering, "Will my dog forget me?" or "Do dogs remember their owners after time apart?" The good news is, experts say they won't forget you. Keep reading to find out more about a dog's long-term memory and what 5 signs a pet researcher says shows your dog never forgets you.
"Dogs remember their owners," confirms Mark Spivak, CPT, of Comprehensive Pet Therapy, Inc. Spivak says dogs use their eyes, ears and noses to determine that, yes, you are their favorite human—and you have returned. Spivak has seen this up close, having co-authored more than 15 pet neuroscientific studies.
One study conducted by the Emory Canine Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory examined dogs' brains using MRIs. It found that dogs have a special region of the brain that helps them process people's faces and respond more strongly to scents of familiar humans. He also points to a study by Hungarian researchers that suggested that dogs can recognize voices as well. This is not only heartwarming, but it says a lot about the human-canine bond. To learn more, below are five signs you can look for that reveal your dog remembers you even after time apart. Some may surprise you!

Do Dogs Have Long-Term Memory? While humans rely on narrative memories, research shows that dogs possess a sophisticated form of associative and episodic-like memory. This means they don't just remember "where" the treats are, they remember the specific emotions and scents associated with your last reunion. According to pet researchers, these long-term bonds are anchored by the olfactory system, allowing a dog to recognize and "remember" their favorite person even after years of separation.
5 Signs Your Dog Remembers You Even After Time Apart Two dogs excited to see their owner after spending time apart. You're going to notice a common theme in Spivak's five signs your dog remembers you even after time apart: They're positive. That's by design. "Dogs often become excited by transitions," he says. "Also, dogs are pack animals that prefer solidarity and consistency in their animal-human pack."
In other words, they value being close to their favorite people and connections. Of course, not all dogs will display each one of these signs that they remember you. Spivak says age, energy level, your previous relationship and comfort level with solo time can all factor in. Still, these behaviors are common in dogs when they're reunited with you.
1. You get the most joyful greetingIf you've spent any time online over the last 20+ years, you've likely come across a video of a dog reuniting with their humans returning from military service. These emotional canine reunions are more than just cute videos, they are a clear sign your dog remembers you and has maintained a deep attachment bond, regardless of the time apart. Spivak says this dog greeting behavior, including vigorous tail wagging and frantic running, is a primary indicator of long-term recognition.
"Jumping is a common dog body language signal in younger or untrained pups," Spivak states. "Yet, because dogs rely on scent recognition and vocal cues to identify their favorite people, even a mature, trained dog may impulsively jump after an owner returns from an extended absence."
2. They sniff you...intenselySpivak shares that intense sniffing is a primary sign your dog remembers you even after significant time apart. This behavior is rooted in canine olfaction, where a dog uses their powerful sense of smell to re-establish a familiar connection.
"Dogs rarely sniff human or animal housemates when everyone has remained home," Spivak says. "However, when an owner has been away for a lengthy period, sniffing provides vital information. It allows the dog to process scent memory, confirming where the person has been and reinforcing their long-term recognition of that individual."
Related: 6 Least Aggressive Dog Breeds for Families, According to Experts
3. They're very vocalAccording to Spivak, a dog’s voice is one of their most powerful tools for expressing long-term recognition. He notes that during a long-awaited canine reunion, many dogs become incredibly vocal, using whines, barks, or whimpers as a clear sign they remember you. This "happy crying" is a physiological response to the release of oxytocin when a dog identifies a familiar loved one.
High-pitched barks are especially common vocal cues in dogs who were already vocal before the separation. This auditory recognition confirms that the dog hasn't just remembered your face, but has maintained a deep emotional attachment to your presence and your specific voice.
4. They follow you everywhereOne of the most heartwarming signs your dog remembers you after a long separation is their refusal to let you out of their sight. This "shadowing" behavior is a clear indicator of long-term recognition and the re-establishment of your unique attachment bond. "After an owner returns from a lengthy absence, it is common for dogs to follow owners around the house, including from room to room or alongside a bathroom door or shower stall," Spivak says.
Spivak notes that this persistent following is a psychological response to the canine reunion, as the dog seeks to reinforce their sense of security and proximity to their favorite person. Dogs who previously experienced separation anxiety or shared an especially close bond are the most likely to "play shadow." This behavior serves as a functional sign your dog never forgets you, as they use their physical presence to confirm that the familiar person they’ve missed is finally home.
5. They're so playfulA sudden burst of energy and a desire for games is also a classic sign your dog remembers you. This behavior, known as play solicitation, is a dog's way of re-establishing their favorite social rituals and confirming that your attachment bond is still intact. When a dog immediately presents you with a toy, they are demonstrating long-term recognition of the specific activities you used to share.
"This common dog behavior can occurr when an owner returns from an extended absence," Spivak says. "Dogs may bring you a tug toy and then bump their owner to solicit interactive play. Dogs may also bring owners a ball, drop the ball in front of them and then bark or paw until the owner throws the ball."

How Long Does This Behavior Last? The signs your dog remembers you even after time apart can make you feel loved. But it can get intense if your dog's greetings are consistently off-the-charts. Yet, there's no timetable for a dog to go back to their baseline after your reunion. "The time for a dog to return to 'normal' will vary, principally based upon the dog's temperament," Spivak says.
Spivak notes that highly anxious dogs may stay extra clingy or act nervously that you'll leave again for a long time. "However, most dogs will move beyond the transitional period and settle into a normal routine and normal behavior within several minutes or hours," Spivak shares.

Dachshund Tries To Eat Her Mom's Birthday Cake and It's Too Much
Birthdays are a joyous occasion, especially when there is cake!
Even if it is cake for humans, that doesn't mean Lady, the Dachshund, isn't going to try to have a bite.
That is exactly what is happening in a new video from Abby Baffoe, who just turned 30 years old.
In the video, she sits on her bed in her pajamas with Lady next to her and lights two candles in the shape of the number 30 on a small birthday cake.
In the caption, she writes, "A new decade 🥹💖 starting off with cake for breakfast 💅 thank you for all the bday wishes I love you guys so much!!!!"
Then we see Lady jumping up next to her mom to try to get a bite of that delicious-looking cake.
Can you blame her?

♬ charmed life uptown gals - busy vintage xx rachelNow, for Lady, who also recently had a birthday, she had her own cake and a little steak on the side.
It was a small, exquisite cake with pink icing, a little icing Dachshund holding a tiny martini glass, and it said, “A weenie bit older.”
Her mom also took her on a birthday shopping spree that included a new hot dog toy, a mascara toy, bones, and of course, a new sweater in deer print (very chic this season).
They even got Lady a birthday hat!

It depends on what ingredients are included in the cake.

Frenchies Stay #1 Most Popular Dog, But This Surprising 'Small Pup' Just Dethroned the Poodle
The French Bulldog says, "wee, wee" to another year as America's favorite dog breed. Our love for the adorable squishy-faced furballs has not waned in the 4 years since the small breed took over the top spot from the beloved, family-friendly Labrador Retriever.
However, the American Kennel Club's top dog list did see a surprising shake-up in the top five with a long-time favorite dropping from fifth position for the first time in four years. This year, a small breed best known for its tiny legs and elongated body hops into 5th position for the first time since 2003.

French Bulldog is Still The Most Popular Dog Breed View this post on InstagramFrenchies have such a sweet, friendly disposition that it makes sense that they remain the most popular dog breed in America for 2025. The AKC compiles the list from year-end registration statistics, announcing it to dog fans early the following year. French Bulldogs took the top spot for the first time in 2022, when they ousted the Labrador Retriever, a pup who had held the spot for 31 years.
“While the French Bulldog is a wonderful companion for many, it is not a ‘one size fits all’ breed,” said Gina M. DiNardo, AKC President and CEO, in a press release. “Popularity does not mean it’s right for everyone." Not all dog owners can deal with the the intricases that come with owning a brachycephalic dog like the Frenchie. But those who choose to overlook the possible challenges love the pups for their big personalities and jovial attitudes.

In second place is the beloved family pup, the Labrador Retriever, followed by the equally lovable Golden Retriever in third. I may be a little biased, but a pretty special dog breed sits once again in the number four slot, the loyal, brilliant, and downright goofy German Shepherd.
However, the fifth slot belongs to the poodle no more. This year, the Dachshund jumps up from number 6, sliding into the fifth spot on the list. DiNardo says this spunky pup is one to watch in the years ahead.
"The breed has hovered in the top 10 most popular breeds for many years, and it’s no surprise that it’s back in the top five. Dachshunds are very intelligent, excellent problem solvers, and adorable," said DiNardo. "As with any breed, we can’t stress enough the importance of doing your research to find the right breed for your lifestyle and to ensure that you’re getting a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder.”
Completing the top 10 is the Beagle and Rottweiler, holding on to 7 and 8 from the previous year, while the German Shorthair Pointer moves up one, taking the Bulldog's spot at number 9 and dropping the breed to the 10th slot.

German Shepherd Learns the Cutest Ear Trick While He Breaks Out of Doggie Jail
Dog lovers know that pups have various ways of communicating with their humans, from barking and tail wagging to when and how they make eye contact. Another way our furry friends let their humans know what they’re thinking is through their ears. A dog’s ears serve many functions, in addition to being cute, from protecting their inner ear to helping with hunting and retrieving. For German Shepherds, their tall, pointy ears can serve as another voice for the dog. If you want to know what your canine is thinking, check out the dog’s ears.

♬ original sound - Grip ReaperAs the dog climbs out of his enclosure, he points his ears straight up. When he reaches his human, he flattens his ears. While the dog’s ear acrobatics may seem like a very cool canine party trick, it’s actually one of the dog’s many ways of communicating with mom and dad. Think of a German Shepherd’s ears like a satellite dish the pup uses to convey emotions like fear, alertness, or friendliness.
We’d hate to speak for this gorgeous German Shepherd, but it’s likely the dog is flattening its ears out of concern that mom or dad will put him in a doggie timeout for his recent great escape. Judging by mom’s reaction to her pup’s antics, this dog has nothing to worry about.
“It’s the ears for me,” gushed one commenter in the video’s comment section. Another added, “That’s not a puppy, that’s a bunny.”
“Those ears, that face, my heart,” shared one more.
Judging by the comments on this viral video, this dog’s escape plan has made him the darling of social media. His active, bunny-like ears are just icing on the cake; a very cute cake.
These Popular Dog Breeds Struggle to Breathe: Study Reveals the Worst Offenders
Have you ever wondered why some dog breeds struggle to breathe more than others? From Bulldogs to Pugs and Shih Tzus, many of the world's most popular pups share one distinctive trait: a short, flat skull, also known as brachycephalic.
A recent study explored how much this trait impacts dogs’ health, analyzing breathing issues across a wide range of breeds. What researchers found shows just how common and undeniably serious these problems can be, especially among some of your favorite pets.

Why Flat-Faced Dogs Struggle to Breathe Bulldogs playing with a ballIrene Miller / Shutterstock.com
Flat-faced dogs more often than not suffer from a condition called brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS). This condition is exclusively caused by their short skulls, which can make breathing noisy and difficult. It can also limit exercise, make hot days especially dangerous and reduce their overall quality of life.
Until recently, most research focused on Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs, but this new study expands the pool to 14 breeds in the UK, including Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas, Boxers and Pekingese.
While noisy breathing is the most commonly recognizable sign of BOAS, the study shows that the condition can also affect a dog’s ability to exercise, sleep and cope with heat or stress. And even though severity varies by breed, extreme cases can lead to collapse or even death.
Related: This New Zealand-Based Company Just Gave Kibble a Fresh Upgrade Dogs Are Loving
The Breeds Most AffectedThe study looked at 898 dogs across 14 flat-faced breeds in the UK, making it the most comprehensive analysis of BOAS in these breeds to date. Almost all of the dogs showed some level of breathing problem, with Maltese and Pomeranian being the only breeds without serious issues. Notably, older dogs tended to be more affected, but the condition can absolutely appear in dogs of any age. Here’s how the breeds stack up in terms of severity:
Highest risk:
- Pekingese – only 10.9 percent of dogs were free of signs.
- Japanese Chin – only 17.4 percent were unaffected.
Moderate risk:
- Griffon Bruxellois, Boston Terrier, King Charles Spaniel, Dogue de Bordeaux and Shih Tzu all showed a noticeable presence of BOAS, though not as severe as the high-risk breeds.
Lower risk (still very much affected):
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Boxer and Affenpinscher all had a higher proportion of dogs with minimal signs, but abnormalities none the less.
Even though Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs are the breeds most people think of when it comes to breathing problems, their exclusion from this study makes it clear that breathing issues are common across most other flat-faced breeds as well. Owners should keep an eye out for the usual signs of distress, no matter the breed.
How to Spot Signs of BOASSpotting signs of BOAS early is key to keeping your furry friend healthy for years to come. Keep an eye (and ear) out for the following symptoms, no matter your pup’s age:
- Short, noisy breathing, snoring or wheezing
- Difficulty exercising or tiring quickly
- Trouble sleeping or restless nights
- Overheating easily or panting excessively on warmer days
- Signs of stress in daily life
It should be said that mild signs are totally worth noting, because severity can vary and early detection can make a big difference for your fur baby’s quality of life. That said, if you think your little one is showing signs of BOAS, take a beat, breathe and schedule a vet visit so you can get it diagnosed and stay ahead of the problem rather than behind it.

Newfoundland Follows Grandma's 'Take Shelter' Orders Like a Perfect Gentleman
Growing up, I had a special bond with my Gram that to this day can't be topped. As a guiding light, mentor, and compassionate and consistent person in my life, I'd have stood by anything she said, and I'd have done anything she told me to do. Our bond flourished with trust, love, and lots of love.
Chewy, the Newfoundland, feels the same way about Grandma. So, when there's dangerous weather on the way, the precious pup follows her orders to take shelter in the bathroom, where I'm sure Grandma gave the scared boy all the cuddles.

Whether they're playing in the leaves together, Chewy's waiting at her gate and waiting for her to wake up, or they're teaming up to guilt Mom into letting him stay the night, they really couldn't be any more adorable. He even guards his leading lady from any doggy visitors because that's his human and no one else's!

These pups are calm, laid-back, and sweet additions to just about any home where they can surround themselves with their people. Though dogs like Chewy have clear favorites, they're affectionate guardians with everyone in their circle.
That said, the next time the crew needs Chewy to join them in the bathroom for safety reasons, Grandma should be the one to say it to be sure he follows through!

Funny Australian Shepherd Smiles Whenever She's in Trouble and No One Can Resist It
Both of my dogs know when they've done something wrong and are about to get in trouble. My Dachshund gives me the most heartbreaking stare that expresses such remorse, I can't stay mad (and yes, I know she's totally playing me). Her Pug brother takes a different approach and just acts sillier than usual, thinking I'll assume he didn't know what he was doing. It's too funny, so holding a grudge is pointless.
This Australian Shepherd has mastered the art of avoiding any sort of consequence to bad behavoir by flashing her pearly whites in an adorable smile.

♬ original sound - CatIn the TikTok from @Catherine.lorraine, the Aussie walked in the door with an odd look on her face. She made a little eye contact with her mom as she curled her lips up into a lopsided smile with her teeth on full display.
"Does anyone else's Aussie smile at you when they get in trouble or is mine broken?" the onscreen text asked, with the caption adding, "My sister said, 'that’s such an ugly face for such a cute dog'."
The clever canine seemed a bit skittish, almost like she knew she had done something wrong and was trying to smooth things over. She quickly looked up at her mom a few times but never held a gaze for long. After a few seconds, she headed back out the door to avoid any confrontation or reprimand.
Followers Shared Similar StoriesApparently, this tactic is popular among pooches. Viewers of the video posted about their own dogs and their repentant facial expressions.
"Mine just tries to look bashful and gives me the side-eye at the same time... It's hard to be mad at him for long!" one admitted.
"I swear they do it to suck up to you like 'don’t be mad anymore. I’m sorry. (They’re not)',” another remarked.

Rare Dog Breed Has Fewer Than 10,000 Pups Left Worldwide and They Look Like Fluffy Pandas
When you've been looking at videos of dogs on the internet for long enough, there is going to come a point when you think you've seen all of them. However, somehow, that's almost never the case. There's always another dog to see, and that's one of the most amazing things!
Just look at this pup! Most people have never seen a Eurasier before, either in person or on video. Recently, though, one mom shared her pup with the world, and he's absolutely breathtaking:
@alleyesonerosIt’s important, extremely important
♬ original sound - Puff ♢Eros the Eurasier has me wondering where I can get one, if I can actually get 14 of them, and why I have never seen them before. First of all, he has the sweetest little personality. Second, he literally looks like a fluffy panda bear.
Eros in particular loves slapping. He slaps his paws on the floor regularly, and whenever he wants his mom's attention, he's not above smacking her, too. On the rare occasion he's with a stranger, he'll smack them, too!

What Are Eurasier Dogs Like?Eros is a pretty good example of exactly the kind of thing you can expect with Eurasiers. These dogs hail from Germany, first appearing in the 1960s, and they were specifically bred to be companions. Eurasiers are:
- High-energy.
- Affectionate.
- Even-tempered.
- Fiercely loyal.
Eros checks all of those boxes and more. When he's not slapping, you can usually find him outside in the sun:
@alleyesonerosIt’s chilly
♬ Mother's Love - The Vernon SpringHe looks so pretty in the sun like that. He's just a beautiful boy!
Why Are Eurasiers So Rare? There are somewhere between 9,000 and 10,000 Eurasiers registered worldwide. While that might seem like a lot, also consider that there are nearly 30,000 new Golden Retriever puppies registered with the AKC every single year! Eurasiers are especially rare in the U.S.
Eurasier sitting in the grass.Image via Shutterstock / Melanie Roelandts
The Eurasier is a relatively new breed, and they don't really serve a specific purpose other than being a companion. They're also from Germany, where breeding regulations are pretty strict.
They're hard to get your hands on, with most reputable breeders legitimately having years-long waiting lists. Instead, a lot of people (particularly in America) end up going with other, similar breeds, like the Chow Chow.
The demand for Eurasiers hasn't really increased outside of Germany and surrounding areas, so outside of specialty breeders, you'll be hard-pressed to find one. I guess we'll just have to keep watching Eros on TikTok!
