Yacht Rock, Dad Rock, Meet the Latest Belatedly Named Genre--Cigarette Mom Rock
Fans and critics looking for words to describe a certain style of music have come up with a few noteworthy names for genres after the fact.
Yacht Rock has been used to describe the smooth soft-rock sounds of such 1970s and early 1980s acts as the Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and others.
Dad Rock is a term used to described music made by middle-aged fathers for middle-aged fathers. Artists including Wilco, Spoon, Pearl Jam and classic rockers such as Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Dire Straits have been grouped under that banner, which again was applied years after these bands were in existence.
Variations of Dad Rock include Sad Dad Music, an umbrella for such critically acclaimed artists as the National and Radiohead, and Divorced Dad Rock, a label that’s been applied to such late ‘90s, early 2000s mainstream rockers as Nickelback and Creed.
In a similar vein, a new belatedly named genre has been recently gaining traction on social media. It’s called Cigarette Mom Rock and apparently you don’t have to be a smoker to enjoy it.
An early predecessor simply known as Mom Rock was highlighted in a blog by the streaming service Pandora back in 2024 with a blog that listed the music of bands and artists like Bread, the Association, Carole King, America and others that played in the background at Tupperware parties hosted by the author’s mother. Cigarette Mom Rock is a more current and attitudinal version.
A recent Instagram post from radio station FM 99 WNOR in Hampton Roads, Va. explained the recently named genre that attempts to put on a bow on a particular type of music from decades ago.
“There is a new trend in music called Cigarette Mom Rock. It’s the antithesis of Divorced Dad Rock, which is your Nickelbacks, Creeds, late ‘90s, early 2000s rock,” explained a station air personality known as Rik in a video clip. “So Cigarette Mom Rock is the gritty female ‘90s, 200s rockers—Alanis Morissette, Melissa Etheridge, Fiona Apple, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Indigo Girls and many more are considered Cigarette Mom Rock. So really all my playlists these days as Divorced Dad and Cigarette Mom Rock.”
Perhaps not surprisingly, not everyone agrees with Rik’s assessment.
“Cigarette mom rock is motley crue my dude,” wrote one commenter.
“Blondie, Def Leppard, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Heart,” added another. “
What he’s describing is Latchkey Kid Mom Rock 😂”
“You gotta have Hole in there. I feel that Courtney Love is the living (just about) embodiment of cigarette moms,” added a third.

There’s a new sundae coming to Sam’s Club food courts with a little help from the warehouse giant’s fans.
Beginning February 12, Sam’s Club food courts will serve a new seasonal sundae that combines vanilla frozen yogurt and caramel with Member’s Mark cinnamon palmiers.
Food & Wine reports that the chain gave customers a choice between three flavors for the rotating sweet treat, with the caramel palmier beating out possible berry better bar and pretzel berry sundaes.

The decadent dessert will also be a nod to a beloved February holiday, Valentine’s Day, as the flaky palmiers are heart-shaped, though it should be noted that they’ll be split in two before being placed on top of the Member’s Mark caramel palmier sundae.
At $1.58 each, the sundaes are a very reasonable price for dessert, but fans will need to act fast, as the sundae flavors rotate monthly, and this one will only be available through March 3.

The palmiers were a huge hit when they were first introduced to Sam’s Club in December, with fans gushing about the buttery, crispy pastries on social media, stating that they “could tell they did not hold back on the cinnamon sugar,” praising the “coarse crystal sugar throughout because it adds texture and little pops of sweetness in every bite.”
Additionally, fans like the flavor ratio, calling it “really well balanced” and wishing that they become a permanent fixture at Sam’s Club’s bakeries, sharing that they “absolutely loved them.”
One Instagram commenter even went as far as to declare the palmiers to be “literally the best pastry ever sold at Sam’s,” prompting others to say they are “so good.”
While some people have noted that the palmiers lose their crispy texture relatively quickly and can have a hint of a margarine taste upon reheating, that likely wouldn’t affect the quality of the limited-time sundaes.

7 Behaviors That Suggest You Were Emotionally Neglected—Even if Your Parents Meant Well
Even though it feels like so long ago, the emotional scars we accumulate during our childhoods can have a lasting impact on our adult lives. Perhaps certain phrases you heard when you were young cause you to struggle with self-worth, or maybe you still feel the wounds caused by receiving little affection as a child. And emotional neglect is one of many traumas that tons of people carry into adulthood.
Dr. Brett Biller, Psy.D., the Mental Health Director at Audrey Hepburn Children's House at Hackensack University Medical Center, says that the American Psychological Association (APA) identifies emotional neglect as a form of maltreatment.
“Emotional neglect is the negative emotional impact caused by a caregiver who, even if unintentional, does not meet a child's emotional needs,” he explains. “It can result from a caregiver's lack of response to the child's emotional functioning, lack of acknowledgment of the child's emotional experience or not responding to a child's social developmental needs, including failing to support a relationship with a child.”
It should be said that emotional neglect isn’t always purposeful, as he first stated. In fact, even “great” parents can be guilty of this.
“While the APA identifies emotional neglect as a form of maltreatment, that does not mean that the caregiver knowingly or intentionally caused harm to a child,” the psychologist explains. “For instance, caregivers who are the sole provider[s] for their families often work extensive hours, which reduces the time that they are able to be with their children.”
If this feels like your childhood, Dr. Biller tells Parade how emotional neglect can show up for you now, with seven behaviors of people who were emotionally neglected by their parents. Plus, learn how to heal.

Your parents may have been well-intentioned and yet still unknowingly created an environment of emotional neglect. According to the University of Florida Health, signs of emotional neglect in your childhood can include receiving criticism or blame, or your parents may not have provided enough attention, which can aid in fostering healthy emotional connections, as Dr. Biller says. They also might have led busy, career-focused lives with not enough time for bonding, as mentioned above.
If you feel that your parents meant well, but still were emotionally neglectful, find out if you’re displaying certain behaviors in your adult life by continuing below.
Related: People Who Felt Ignored as Children Often Develop These 14 Traits as Adults
“Emotional neglect during childhood results in adults who lack coping strategies to manage their emotions,” Dr. Biller states.
Without these coping strategies to manage difficult thoughts and feelings, he says that adults often resort to external means, such as drugs and or alcohol, for numbing or managing challenges that they experience.
Related: People Who Were 'Overly Neglected' in Childhood Often Display These 10 Traits as Adults, Psychologists Say
As a child, if you didn’t view your relationships as secure or emotionally safe—or if you regularly felt emotionally abandoned—you may feel uncertainty in your adult relationships, Dr. Biller shares. You might even avoid close relationships altogether out of fear of being abandoned.
“Some adults who previously experienced emotional neglect will avoid engaging in close relationships with others due to their expectation that their emotional needs will not be met,” he says.
Related: If You’ve Said Any of These 14 Phrases, You Probably Have a Fear of Abandonment, Psychologists Explain
Dr. Biller says that the emotionally neglected child will demonstrate a pattern in adulthood “in which they become codependent in their relationships, in which they are reliant on their partner for emotional validity, or the formerly emotionally neglected child excessively restricts their emotions, which interferes with true intimacy.”
4. Emotional instabilityAccording to Dr. Biller, emotional instability in adulthood can be the result of a history in which the child was not able to have their emotional needs met.
“The child learned to withhold or suppress their emotions,” he shares. “Developing into adulthood, the pattern of attempting to minimize or restrict one's emotions continues.”
You may experience depression and/or anxiety as an adult if you were emotionally neglected as a child.
“The absence of emotional attention during childhood results in adults who are less able to manage emotional difficulties,” Dr. Biller shares. “They are prone to internalize difficulties, resulting in feelings of anxiety and depression.”
Note: While anxiety and depression can result from childhood circumstances, keep in mind that it may also be your biology that contributes to these mental health conditions—regardless of your childhood environment.
“In the absence of being emotionally seen and supported, children learn to seek attention in an effort to fill the emotional void that is created by the neglect,” Dr. Biller says. “The attention-seeking adult accepts even negative attention and emotional connection to fill the historic emotional void.”
7. Poor boundariesDr. Biller says that when emotionally neglected as a child, the adult has not been exposed to a healthy model of emotional management within relationships.
“As such, it is not uncommon for the emotionally-seeking adult to pursue emotional connection with others in a manner that exceeds the comfort of others,” he observes.
Related: Child Psychologists Are Begging Parents and Grandparents to Never Turn a Blind Eye to These 10 Emotional Reflexes
First, Dr. Biller says that you’ll need to start with recognizing that “adult functioning is the result of our experience throughout our upbringing.”
“While awareness is necessary, the awareness must come from a place of understanding, rather than judgment,” he shares, saying that you should address your current struggles with “sincere curiosity and exploration.”
“The necessary exploration can come through traditional mental health therapy, reading, listening to podcasts, discussion with others and allowing a place for trust in relationships,” he says.

I Tried Mrs. Frank Sinatra’s Spaghetti and Meatballs Recipe To See if It Could Top My Grandma’s
There’s a quiet authority that comes from growing up in an Italian-American kitchen, where the spaghetti and meatballs have been made the same way for generations. My grandmother made meatballs by instinct, scooping seasoned meat into her palm, pressing it gently between her fingers, and knowing instantly when it was right. There was no hesitation, no second-guessing, no outside influence.
Over the years, I've taken on a similar confidence and muscle memory when making my family's go-to recipe, which is why I almost breezed over the Mrs. Sinatra's Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe I stumbled upon on Old_Recipes Reddit. The classic dish was included in WFBL’s Cookbook of the Stars and attributed to Mrs. Frank Sinatra. (Some commenters assumed the recipe came from Sinatra's mother, Natalie, but it's unclear if she was the source or if his first wife, Nancy Barbato, deserves the credit.)
After reading through the recipe and the comments, my interest was piqued. After all, if these meatballs were good enough for Ol' Blue Eyes, surely my grandmother would forgive a little culinary curiosity.
What hooked me wasn’t only the Sinatra name, but also the rigid, unapologetic rules of an old-school Italian kitchen. While the rest of the world chased shortcuts, Mrs. Sinatra fixated on process. She didn’t simply reach for a jar of sauce; she began with the finest canned tomatoes, and brought them to life with a few practiced pinches of seasoning.
And the real alchemy lay in the pan. She didn’t just brown the meatballs; she treated that rendered, seasoned fat as liquid gold, using it as the foundational backbone for entire sauce. Reading her recipe felt like a secret handshake across generations. It’s the same unwritten rule my own family has followed for years.
Then came the curveball: onions and thyme in the sauce. In my house, that’s how Sunday arguments would start—those flavors would have been considered foreign invaders in my grandmother’s ragu. The recipe made me pause, wooden spoon in hand, wondering if this elegant method could actually rival the taste I’ve trusted for three decades. In the end, there was only one thing to do: head into the kitchen and give the recipe a try.

Mrs. Frank Sinatra’s spaghetti and meatballs isn’t a celebrity gimmick; it’s a deeply traditional Italian-American Sunday sauce. At its core, it’s a disciplined, method-driven approach to a dish most families make by instinct alone. The meatballs are fried first, not baked or simmered, and the oil left behind, rich with browned bits and seasoning, becomes the starting point of the sauce itself. Nothing is wasted, nothing is rushed.
What sets it apart is the insistence on structure. Mrs. Sinatra cooked with rules: build flavor in stages, respect the fat, let the sauce absorb the essence of the meat. The sauce is smooth and deliberate, carrying subtle aromatics, like onion and thyme, that would raise eyebrows in some Italian-American kitchens but speak to a regional lineage.
This isn’t “spaghetti and meatballs” as a default comfort food. It’s spaghetti and meatballs as inheritance, one woman’s exact way of doing things, written down instead of handed off verbally.

Ingredients NeededThe recipe relies on a short list of familiar ingredients, nothing out of the ordinary, just staples you’d expect to find in an Italian-American kitchen.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
For the meatballs, you'll need ground pork and beef, garlic, grated Italian cheese, eggs, breadcrumbs, fresh parsley, olive oil and salt and pepper. For the sauce, grab a large can of Italian-style tomatoes, some tomato pureé, an onion and fresh thyme. You'll also need some spaghetti for serving, of course, plus some additional cheese for topping.

How To Make Mrs. Frank Sinatra's Spaghetti and MeatballsAccording to the old-school recipe in WFBL’s Cookbook of the Stars, the process begins with the meatballs. It’s a balanced blend of a half-pound each of ground beef and pork, bound with eggs, grated Italian cheese, breadcrumbs, minced garlic and chopped parsley, all seasoned simply with salt and pepper.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
While I imagine Mrs. Sinatra mixed her meatballs by hand, a stand mixer makes quick work of it, and if you have one, don’t be shy about using it. This is something I always do.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
Once the mixture is combined, it’s rolled into balls and dropped into a shimmering pan of hot oil. The meatballs are seared until browned and crusty on the outside, a process that fills the kitchen with a savory aroma.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
Once the meatballs are browned on all sides, move them to a plate and save the frying oil. That flavored fat becomes the essential foundation for the sauce.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
Mrs. Sinatra’s method is all about building flavor. Next, she gently softens the onion and garlic in the leftover frying oil to build a savory, aromatic base. Meanwhile, the Italian-style tomatoes and tomato purée are set to simmer in a large pot.
When the onions and garlic begin to brown, remove them from the pan and gently add the remaining oil to the pot of tomatoes. The oil will add a richness to the sauce that's felt rather than seen.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
At this point, the browned meatballs go into the tomato pot to simmer alongside the thyme, salt and black pepper. The pot is once again set to simmer, this time with the lid on. The sauce needs an hour or longer on the heat, giving the flavors the time they need to fully come together.
Courtesy Theresa Greco
When the sauce and meatballs are ready, boil the spaghetti in well-salted water until al dente. Drain the pasta and arrange on plates, tossing it with enough sauce to coat every strand. Top the mound with a meatball and a generous ladle of extra sauce, then finish it all with a dusting of grated cheese.

Recipe Review: My Honest ThoughtsI came to this recipe with an open mind and real respect for its pedigree. But honesty matters more to me than celebrity status, and I can’t say this spaghetti and meatballs is better than my grandmother's. It’s good, undeniably so, but “good” and “right for me” aren’t always the same thing.
The sticking point is the onion and thyme in the sauce. I understand the appeal: it adds depth, and in another kitchen it might feel essential. In mine, it pulls the sauce away from home. It changes the clean, tomato-forward flavor I grew up with, and that shift matters to me.
That doesn’t make the recipe wrong. It just makes it someone else’s. Mrs. Sinatra’s method is disciplined and thoughtful and the technique alone is worth admiring. The meatballs are tender, the sauce carefully built, the result deeply comforting in an old-world, deliberate way. Still, when I measure it against the version I’ve been cooking and eating for decades, my loyalty doesn’t waver. My family's recipe tastes like Sundays to me.
This isn’t a replacement, but it is a reminder: traditions that look identical on the surface can carry very different truths. If you ask whether it’s better, I wouldn’t say it out loud. But standing at the stove, as the oil bloomed and the sauce came together, I understood something. Frank and I were chasing the same thing; not perfection, but that rare Sunday feeling when the food, the ritual and the moment all fall into place.

6 Tips For Making Mrs. Frank Sinatra's Spaghetti and Meatballs1. Respect the processIf you want your kitchen to smell like a 1940s social club, don’t rush a thing. This dish rewards patience over precision and a long, gentle simmer is essential for the flavors to deepen and fully come together. Unlike Mrs. Sinatra, I often let my sauce cook for 3 to 4 hours vs only 1 to 2.
2. Quality countsBe sure to use the best ingredients you can find, especially when it comes to the meat. The pork ensures the meatball stays juicy and the beef gives the dish its classic Italian American flavor.
3. Build flavor from the panAs you move from frying the meatballs to starting the sauce, scrape every bit of fond from the bottom of the oil pan into the pot with the tomatoes. Even if you choose to skip the onion and garlic, those caramelized bits are where the sauce gets its soul. Don’t even think about skipping this step.
4. Chill before you rollI will often rest my meatball mixture in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This firms up the fat, makes shaping easier and eliminates the need for extra breadcrumbs that can toughen the meatballs.
5. Use bread vs. bread crumbsIf you want extra moist meatballs, I suggest using sliced bread soaked in milk in place of the dried bread crumbs.
6. Sprinkle the cheeseWhile I have no idea what Mrs. Sinatra meant by “grated Italian cheese,” my preference is to add a Parmigiano-Reggiano rind, along with a small handful of grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, to the tomato pot at the start of the simmer. In my family, freshly grated Pecorino belongs in the meatballs and sprinkled over the finished dish once the spaghetti is plated. Used this way, the various cheeses deepen the dish's savoriness without overwhelming it.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom: Sheriff Going Off 'New Leads' on Day 9
As the search for Nancy Guthrie heads into its second week, the public has become increasingly curious about her whereabouts, whether or not she's okay, and who might be behind her disappearance.
On Monday, Feb. 9, PCSD shared a new update on the case.
"New statement from Pima Sheriff says they are following up on new leads and we can expect to see an active law enforcement presence at Guthrie residences," NewsNation's Brian Entin wrote on X. Entin has been covering the case live from Tucson, moving back and forth between Nancy's home and the home of her daughter, Annie Guthrie, who lives about four miles away.
"I have not noticed anything at Nancy or Annie's house today," Entin added.
The latest update comes just hours after Savannah shared an emotional post on Instagram, asking the public for help.
“Hi there, everybody. I wanted to come on and just share a few thoughts as we enter into another week of this nightmare," Savannah said before thanking everyone for their ongoing prayers.
"We believe our mom is still out there. We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock, trying to bring her home, trying to find her. She was taken, and we don’t know where. And we need your help," she continued, adding, "So I’m coming on just to ask you, not just for your prayers but, no matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tucson, if you see anything, if you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement. We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help."
The Guthrie family had a ransom deadline for $6 million in Bitcoin that came and went on Monday, Feb. 9. It's unknown what the next steps will be.

As the actor’s final episodes as the beloved character air next week, Sutton is reflecting on his journey, the deep connection audiences have formed with John Paul and what being part of the iconic McQueen family has meant to him.
As a part of his exit storyline, Hollyoaks will air a special “What If” episode next week, exploring John Paul’s life and imagining how things might have unfolded if key members of the McQueen family were still alive.
Previewing what viewers can expect from the “What If” episode, Sutton shared that much of the story sees John Paul reminiscing with Nancy, portrayed by Jessica Fox.
Reflecting on how he hopes audiences will remember John Paul, Sutton said, “I hope people will remember the big, issue-based storylines.”
Throughout his time on Hollyoaks, John Paul McQueen has been at the center of numerous issue-led storylines, from his groundbreaking teenage coming-out story and romance with Craig Dean (Guy Burnett) during a time when being openly gay was far less accepted, to later storylines addressing sexual assault and other serious themes.
Sutton also hopes viewers will remember some of the lighter moments from John Paul’s journey, joking about “the sexy moments he’s had in the past.”
Ultimately, Sutton hopes the character made a meaningful difference, sharing, “I’d like people to remember John Paul as being someone who hopefully made an impact in people’s lives.”
The “What If” episode will also see the return of several familiar faces from Hollyoaks’ past, including David Tag, Gemma Merna, Hollie-Jay Bowes, Leah Hackett and Annie Wallace.
Reflecting on reuniting with the returning cast members, Sutton added, “It was so full of joy and love. I hadn’t realised how much I cherished the days when we all worked together.”
Sutton also reflected on why he believes the McQueens have become such an important part of pop culture, noting “People grew up watching them and they became part of people’s lives.”
Sharing his favorite memories of being part of the McQueen family, Sutton said, “I’ve got lots of favourite memories. I loved the big family scenes, the chaos, the noise, the passion, the creativity, the emotion.”
Being part of the McQueen family is not something Sutton has taken lightly. “It’s been a huge part of not just my career, but my life,” he added. “I’ve been so lucky to work here with these amazing people every day.”

'Hollyoaks' Malique Thompson-Dwyer Talks McQueen Legacy
Malique Thompson-Dwyer has been part of Hollyoaks’ iconic McQueen family since his arrival in 2016, portraying Prince McQueen. With his on-screen cousin John Pauul McQueen (James Sutton) set to exit the soap next week, Thompson-Dwyer is reflecting on his favorite McQueen memories and what being part of one of Hollyoaks’ most beloved families has meant to him.
Hollyoaks is set to air a special “What If” episode next week, exploring John Paul’s life and imagining how things might have unfolded if key members of the McQueen family were still alive.
The past few years have been emotionally turbulent ones for Prince McQueen, marked by the death of his brother and the challenges surrounding his brief experience of fatherhood, which ultimately left him separated from his son. The events have significantly impacted Princes mindset, though heading into 2026, the character appears to be entering a more hopeful chapter.
Reflecting on Prince’s role within the McQueen family, Thompson-Dwyer explained, “He is the kind of guy that tries to hold everyone together. I feel like they all come together as a union.”
The “What If” episode will also see the return of several familiar faces from Hollyoaks’ past, including David Tag, Gemma Merna, Hollie-Jay Bowes, Leah Hackett and Annie Wallace.
Sharing about what it was like filming alongside the returning cast members, Thompson-Dwyer added, “I hadn’t filmed with most of them before, but it was a good day and everyone on set loved it. David came back, that was fun getting to see him.”
In 2026, the Mcqueen family will celebrate more than 20 years on Hollyoaks, a milestone Thompson-Dwyer says he doesn’t take lightly.
“Without the McQueens, is it really Hollyoaks?” Tompson-Dwyer said. “If nothing else is happening around the village, you know something will be going down at the McQueens.”
Some of the actors favorite memories of being part of the McQueen family stem from the show’s original McQueen house set. “I loved the old house when I first arrived,” he recalled. “Whenever you had scenes in there you would feel like you were in your own gaff.”
Reflecting on what the family represents, Thompson-Dwyer shared, “Being a McQueen means a lot to me because it’s such a good family. It means being ferocious, spontaneous, crazy, and very loved.”

For more than twenty years, Myra McQueen (Nicole Barber-Lane) has served as the matriarch of the McQueen family on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. With her on-screen son John Paul (James Sutton) set to leave the soap, the series is marking the family’s legacy in style, with Barber-Lane once again at the center.
Hollyoaks will air a special “What If” episode next week, exploring John Paul’s life and imagining how things might have unfolded if key members of the McQueen family were still alive.
Reflecting on Myra’s mindset during the special episode, Barber-Lane said, “Myra’s always on a mission to make sure everybody is ok and safe, whatever country she is in.”
Barber-Lane added that filming the “What If” episode was a joy. “It was so much fun,” she shared. “I think it reflects what can happen in life and the fun we can have being in a soap, especially with some of the McQueens being back on set, it was just great energy.”
Discussing Myra’s bond with John-Paul, Barber-Lane said, “Myra completely dotes on John Paul and their relationship is so close. Such a beautiful bond, it’s very special.”
Barber-Lane believes the McQueens continue to resonate with viewers because of the love at the heart of the family. “No matter what they go through, how much they fall out, they have always got each other’s backs. That reflects real life. Sometimes family aren’t the easiest to deal with, but you’ve always got each other at the end of the day,” she said.
Reflecting on Myra’s evolution as a parent, Barber-Lane noted that her approach ahas softened over time, “Myra steps in when necessary, instead of being the lioness protecting everyone with her large roar,” she explained. “She’s now much calmer.”
The “What If” episode will also see the return of several familiar faces from Hollyoaks’ past, including David Tag, Gemma Merna, Hollie-Jay Bowes, Leah Hacket and Annie Wallace.
Reflecting on what it was like to work with them once again, Barber-Lane shared, “I honestly had an absolute ball. I was really giddy to have them back; it is just wonderful.”
Looking back on her time as a McQueen, Barber-Lane recalled some of her favorite memories, “Chippy teas, all the girls talking at once and John Paul just being in the middle of it all. Myra loving being with her family. They are the best McQueen memories I have.”
Asked which McQueen she relates to most, Barber-Lane joked, “I’ve probably been like every single McQueen at some point in my life.”
Barber-Lane added that being part of the McQueen family has been deeply meaningful. “Being a McQueen has meant I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people in the industry,” she said. “Cast, directors, behind the scenes producers, writers, right across the board. I feel so lucky and so privileged for that honour and to be a part of the McQueen family – what an absolutely amazing claim to fame for me.”

'Hollyoaks’ Jennifer Metcalf Teases Emotional McQueen Episode
For more than two decades, Jennifer Metcalf has entertained audiences as Merceds McQueen on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. With longtime McQueen family member John Paul (James Sutton) preparing to exit the soap, Metcalf is opening up about the upcoming “What If” episode, and her place in the show’s history.
Hollyoaks will air a special “What If” episode next week, exploring John Paul’s life and imagining how things might have unfolded if key members of the McQueen family were still alive.
Speaking about reuniting with former McQueen family members, Metcalf said the experience was deeply emotional. “It was absolute gold.” Sha shared. “For personal reasons, seeing everyone was absolutely beautiful, getting the old McQueens behind a camera was just amazing. They've been deeply missed.”
Reflecting on Mercedes’ role within the family, Metcalf explained that the character has naturally stepped into a leadership position. “As Myra has come and gone over the years, Mercedes has become the matriarch,” she said. “People turn to her to hold it together.”
Asked why the McQueens continue to resonate with viewers, Metcalf pointed to their relatability. “Everyone knows a family like the McQueens,” she said. “Growing up, I knew loads. A lot of them were within my family. They make people feel warm and seen, it is just normal everyday life at its best.”
Looking back at her time as a McQueen, Metcalf said some of her favorite memories came from filming large ensemble scenes, “When were all together doing massive McQueen scenes, when we were there until 8 o'clock at night. We're all like a real family, so would be having little scraps at each other,” she said.

Controversial Music Festival Issues Statement After Several Artists Drop Out
Rock the Country has issued a statement after canceling one of the previously-announced dates for this year's music festival.
The controversial music festival recently had to call off the shows scheduled for Anderson, S.C., after nearly all of the headlining artists pulled out of the performance.
"We're truly sorry we won't be bringing the show to Anderson," Rock the Country announced in a statement shared via Instagram on Monday, Feb. 9. "Our fans work hard for their money, and we refuse to put on a show that doesn't meet the standard they deserve."
Nearly the entire main lineup for the South Carolina shows, which were supposed to take place July 25-26, ultimately dropped out of the event, including Creed, Shinedown, Ludacris and Morgan Wade.
The event, headlined by some polarizing acts like Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, has been plagued with several lineup drop-outs since it was first announced last month, while critics have dubbed the festival as "MAGA-fest" over its association with outwardly conservative artists.
Following the cancelation of Rock the Country's stop in Anderson, South Carolina, the festival has issued a statement saying it was "created to unite people together through music."
"Our lineups and our crowds reflect that sentiment — a wide range of voices, backgrounds, and… pic.twitter.com/nQl4HFFfZS
Rock the Country is said to have been "created to unite people together through music," according to the statement released on Monday, which also read, "Our lineups and our crowds reflect that sentiment—a wide range of voices, backgrounds, and stories that make up this country."
The statement continued: "Our focus remains where it's always been: supporting our artists, honoring our fans, and delivering unforgettable nights throughout the country."
"The shows ahead represent the heart of what Rock the Country stands for: music, community, and pride in where we come from."
"Loving America isn't political; It's who we are," the statement concluded.
Now that the South Carolina shows have been cancelled, Rock the Country 2026 will feature performances in 7 different cities, with artists like Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert, Brooks & Dunn and more stars still scheduled to perform.

Bad Bunny and Alix Earle’s Connection Explained After Backlash to Her Super Bowl Halftime Show Cameo
Alix Earle was one of many famous faces who popped up during Bad Bunny’s 2026 Super Bowlhalftime show, but her cameo sparked more speculation than some of her fellow celebrities.
Bad Bunny, 31, performed a string of his biggest hits amid the Sunday, February 8, game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Earle, 25, was spotted dancing alongsideCardi B, Pedro Pascal, Jessica Alba, Karol G and more stars on the La Casita set as Bad Bunny delivered the medley.
Some viewers were left scratching their heads over Earle’s cameo as they tried to figure out her connection to Bad Bunny. Content creator Spill Sesh speculated about the reason for her inclusion in a Sunday Instagram video.
According to the social media user, Bad Bunny and Earle share a mutual acquaintance in hospitality mogul David Grutman, who danced with Earle and the others in La Casita. Grutman, 51, co-owns a Miami restaurant called Gekko with Bad Bunny. He is also an executive producer of Earle’s upcoming Netflix reality series.
Earle later reflected on her halftime show cameo in a TikTok Stories post.
“It was such an honor to experience such a special and powerful performance,” she wrote alongside a photo of the billboard projected at the end of Bad Bunny’s set, which read, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

In the comments section, some TikTok users criticized Earle’s involvement in the halftime show.
“You’ve never once used your platform and voice for the messages Bad Bunny sends,” one person wrote. “This is unbelievable and undeserved.”
However, Earle denied the social media user’s accusation, responding, “I have and being invited to do this was such an incredible experience and so special.”
Bad Bunny shared a positive message during his halftime show performance, declaring, “God bless America,” before giving shout-outs to countries in North and South America. As he concluded his set, he held up a football that read, “Together, we are America.”
Earle, for her part, announced her untitled Netflix reality show in January.
“Dad, it’s going to be fun. It’s gonna be fine,” she said in an Instagram video at the time, which showed her on a phone call outside of Netflix Studios. “I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? Just trust me. It will be fun.”
The caption read, “From your FYP to your TV: Alix Earle, her family and friends will star in an unscripted series dropping later this year on Netflix.”
