I once traveled on a Broadway tour around the world with just one suitcase. I needed outfits for daytime exploring, opening night events, galas and rehearsals. I was able to fit all of that in one suitcase, plus other life necessities. If I can do that, you can pack in a carry-on for your next vacation.

There’s one technique that will help elevate your outfits every single day—and it won’t lead you to adding extra bulk to your suitcase. All you need to do is pack a few “third piece” items with you that can match most of your clothing, and it’ll complete each outfit flawlessly.

There are endless ways to tie one around your neck. You can also tie it around your waist, or wear it in your hair or on your head. It can completely liven up any outfit, and I consider these scarves to be a packing necessity.

For hats, I bring a neutral-colored baseball cap. Baseball caps can look extremely chic and put-together, especially if you style your hair to go with the cap. Braids or a flipped-out hair look matched with a nice baseball cap will never go out of style. Garth Brooks has reached a milestone few other musicians can match. However, that doesn't change his opinion about who remains music's greatest icon.

In an essay for The Times of London, Brooks shared details of a day in the life where he expressed what he's most thankful for, shared his thoughts on the music business, and the last thing he does each day.

Brooks reveals that his everyday life is pretty ordinary. He gets up early, spends time with his wife (Trisha Yearwood), tends to things around his Tennessee home, finds moments of gratitude, and ends his day with a prayer.

"Yellow is one of those colors that hits you before you have time to think about it—it's one of the most visually stimulating colors in the spectrum as it awakens the nervous system," Lewis, who is also the founder of ColorAnalysis.com and The Color Institute and the author of Color Secrets: Learning The One Universal Language We Were Never Taught, tells Parade. "People are drawn to yellow because it feels inherently optimistic and future-forward. It feels like the color of sunlight, of energy, of something good about to happen."

She points out that yellow has an irresistible forward momentum, which is a core part of people who love the color. They also often have an innate spark of joy.

"You don't reason your way into loving yellow—you feel it," she adds. "That feeling is connected to something real about how you're wired, what you need and how you move through the world daily."

Most people don't spend much time thinking about why they're drawn to certain colors. Yet when you start paying attention, she says you'll notice consistent patterns.

"Your color preferences are a window into your personality, your history and even what your decision-making patterns are," she states. "That's what makes color psychology so fascinating—it gives you language for things you already knew about yourself but couldn't quite name."

There have been very few times where the Costco bakery section has let me down, and the latest find has shoppers—including myself—running to the store.

While donuts and croissants are both great on their own, something magical happens when two baked good staples are brought together.

And before the fall kicks in and we're on an apple cider donut kick, the summer is all about Costco's Mini Croissant Donuts.

The summer bakery item has been spotted at select warehouses nationwide, with a pack including 20 mini donuts split between two flavors: glazed and cinnamon sugar.

The bite-sized treats feature a light, flaky croissant-style texture. The cinnamon sugar version is coated in a warm spice blend, while the glazed option has a smooth, sweet finish.

And Costco's version is giving Krispy Kreme a run for its money, with prices ranging from $9.99 – $10.89 at various locations.

Their petite sizes make them more approachable than a standard doughnut or croissant, as they are perfect to snack on, whether at home with your coffee or gathering with loved ones.

"🥐 Mini Croissant Donuts at Costco are everything we never knew we needed! You get 20 mini donuts in cinnamon sugar AND glazed…a crossover between a croissant and a donut that we are completely obsessed with 🤤" Instagram account Costco Buys wrote upon spotting the item in stores.

Sort of! You'd have to try it on your own, but The Grocery Lady reviewed it as part of her June 2026 product taste-test, revealing that she gave it a 3.5 out of 5, as it "wasn't terrible," but it also wasn't her favorite.

The music industry told them nobody would listen.

Fifty years later, more people than ever are listening.

When Queen finished recording "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1975, their label EMI told them it was too long to be a single and pushed hard for an edit to the song. It ran close to six minutes. Radio stations wanted closer to three. EMI wasn't the only one with doubts, manager John Reid pushed for a shorter version too, and even some inside the band weren't completely sure it would work.

Queen refused to cut anything.

Producer Roy Thomas Baker remembered what happened next. "We thought we'd better get some outside advice," he said, "so we took it to Kenny Everett at Capital Radio." Everett's response left absolutely no room for doubt. He told them the song was so good that radio would have to come up with a new chart position for it. Not Number One, he said. Number Half.

Then he played it on air: fourteen separate times over that one weekend.

By Monday morning, record stores across the country were swamped with requests for a song that hadn't even been put out yet. EMI changed their minds, released the song in its entirety, and watched it sit at No. 1 in the UK for nine weeks straight.

The song that was too long to be played on the radio had just become one of the biggest hits of the decade.

What made "Bohemian Rhapsody" so different was that it refused to be just one thing. It challenged genres and evolved as it played. It moved from quiet ballad to sweeping vocal section to hard rock to a gentle close, all in under six minutes. Nothing else on the radio sounded anything like it. Far Out calls it a track that "innovated the concept of rock opera," and Queen themselves seemed far more interested in following their instincts than worrying about what would sell.

"It's interesting," Brian May said in a 2025 interview. "'Bohemian Rhapsody' is viewed as a giant step for Queen creatively, but from the inside, it didn't feel that way."

That's the thing about songs that last. They rarely feel like you’re making history while they're being made.

Fifty Years Later, Still the Most-Streamed Song of Its Decade

The song that almost didn't make it to radio is now the most-streamed song of the entire 1970s.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" has passed 273 million streams in the UK alone, more than any other song from that decade. It sits ahead of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and their "Everywhere," both of which had their own big moments in recent years.

Part of that comes down to how many different generations have found it and fell in love with it. The drama of the song was made for television. When MTV arrived in the 1980s and music videos took over, this was exactly the kind of song that kept people watching and wanting more.

Then in 2018, the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, became the highest-grossing music biopic in history, taking in more than $900 million worldwide and bringing the song to an entirely new generation that wasn't even alive when it was recorded.

Queen marked the song's 50th anniversary on October 31, 2025, with a five-part YouTube series called "The Greatest: The Path to Bohemian Rhapsody," featuring new interviews with May and Roger Taylor about how the song came to be. It's already been watched more than 29 million times.

As May and Taylor tell it, standing inside the studio while they were making it, none of it felt shocking at all. It just felt like the next Queen song.

A record label told them in 1975 that nobody would sit through six minutes of a rock opera.

In 2026, those same six minutes have been streamed more than any other song from that era.

They sat through it…over and over again.

1977 Classic Rock Hit, Recorded in 30 Minutes, Was a Last-Minute Addition to Iconic Album

The Steve Miller Band album Book of Dreams is known as one of the most iconic albums of the 1970s. But one of its most memorable singles almost didn’t make the cut.

The song, “Jungle Love,” featured an exploding intro, a driving guitar riff, and assorted whistles and exotic bird sounds to go with its jungle theme. Written by bass player Lonnie Turner and guitarist Greg Douglass, the song hit No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 1, 1977, and, along with the hits “Jet Airliner” and “Swingtown,” helped to firmly cement Miller’s band as arena rock superstars.

But “Jungle Love: almost didn’t happen at all. The song was a last-minute addition to Book of Dreams after Turner told Miller he had written a song.

Miller told the Ultimate Classic Rock Nights radio show that he gave Turner a warning on the final day of recording for Book of Dreams.

“‘Jungle Love’ was like a last, last-chance deal,” Miller recalled. “I called Lonnie, and I said, ‘Lonnie, I’m mixing this album next Tuesday – if you don’t have your songs in they will not be considered. I’m telling you now.’ … And then, I’m finishing mixing, and Lonnie walks in, says, ‘Oh, I got this little tape; I thought you might like to hear it.’ I went, ‘Lonnie, in seven minutes the album is done, and I’m going on vacation… Alright, let’s hear it.’”

Miller was floored by what he heard, especially the guitar work by Douglass. He ordered Douglass to get to the studio right away, and they recorded it on the spot. “Cut the song, sang it and mixed it in 45 minutes, and it went on the record,” Miller shared.

Douglass also looked back on the whirlwind recording session for “Jungle Love.” Speaking with The San Diego Reader in 2010, he recalled, “Steve’s Book of Dreams album was pretty much a done deal. On the last day of recording, Lonnie Turner, Steve’s bass player and co-writer of the tune, gave Steve a demo of the song we had done at rehearsal. Steve loved the tune and asked if I was available. Calls were made, I was at the studio in 30 minutes, and one half hour after that, the song was in the can.”

The fact that Miller was a producer on the Book Of Dreams album also made it easier to do a rush job on “Jungle Love.”

“We were already in the mixing phase of the Book of Dreams album, so this was all at the last minute,” Miller told Parade in 2023. “One of the nice things about being your own producer is that you can get things done quickly.”

In 1975, Barry Manilow scored his first No. 1 hit with "Mandy" and launched one of the most successful careers in pop music history. Today, June 17, the singer behind classics like "Copacabana," "Can't Smile Without You" and "I Write the Songs" celebrates his 83rd birthday.

Over the decades, Manilow has sold more than 85 million records worldwide, earned a Grammy, an Emmy and a Tony Award, and become one of the best-selling artists of all time. But there was a period when critics weren't nearly as enthusiastic about his success.

One person who never doubted him was Frank Sinatra.

In a 2015 interview with Palm Springs Life, Manilow recalled the moment Sinatra unexpectedly came to his defense during the height of his commercial breakthrough.

"That was the year I really needed somebody to say something like that, because I was getting creamed by the critics," Manilow said. "I'd become annoyingly popular and nothing I could do pleased them, be it my name, my looks, my sound, my performances. They killed me."

Then came Sinatra's famous assessment: "He's next."

Manilow said the two-word endorsement arrived at exactly the right time.

"And then, out of nowhere, Mr. Sinatra said that beautiful thing, 'He's next,'" he recalled. "And it just … well, I was very, very grateful that happened."

The admiration ran both ways. Although Manilow said he only met Sinatra a handful of times, he later recorded the 1998 tribute album Manilow Sings Sinatra and frequently cited the legendary entertainer as one of his biggest influences. He told Palm Springs Life that he learned from Sinatra's ability to fully inhabit a song and tell a story through its lyrics.

Manilow also shared a touching memory involving Sinatra's widow, Barbara Sinatra. During a visit to her home, he played her his recording of "Violets for Your Furs," a song Sinatra famously recorded in the 1950s.

"When she heard that song, I saw tears running down her face," Manilow recalled. Barbara Sinatra told him it reminded her of a Christmas trip to Rockefeller Center when her husband surprised her with violets and pinned them to her coat, just like in the song.

The numbers suggest Sinatra's prediction was remarkably accurate. Manilow has recorded 51 Top 40 hits on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, including 13 No. 1 singles, and remains one of the most successful recording artists of his generation. He is also tied for 15th all time with 13 platinum albums in the United States, putting him alongside some of music's biggest names.

Manilow's latest challenge has been a deeply personal one. After revealing in late 2025 that he had undergone surgery for early-stage lung cancer, the singer said in a June 1 appearance on Good Morning America that he remains cancer-free but is facing uncertainty about whether his voice will fully recover.

"My voice. I don't know whether it's coming back," Manilow said. "I did my first sound check about a month ago, and I didn't sound like me at all. I just couldn't believe that. That it's over."

Despite those concerns, Manilow said he's eager to return to the stage.

"I can't wait to get back," he said. "I'm in great shape. I'm ready to go. I just hope my voice is. If I sound good, that would be just great. I really don't want to cry on stage, but I don't know whether I'll be able to hold that back this time."

For an artist who has spent more than six decades entertaining audiences around the world, the emotional comments offered a reminder that even after all his success, performing remains deeply personal to him.

74 Years Ago, Hank Williams Lost His Hollywood Future Months Before His Death

By the summer of 1952, Hank Williams seemed destined for even bigger things. Then came the stunning setback.

Already one of the biggest stars in country music, he had crossed over into mainstream America with a string of hit records and a movie contract with MGM suggested Hollywood was next.

On June 17, 1952, MGM canceled its contract with Williams, abruptly ending what could have been a promising film career.

At the time, the decision was viewed as a major blow to one of music's brightest stars. But in hindsight, it was also a warning sign that serious problems were beginning to overwhelm his professional life.

The bad news didn't stop there.

A few years prior, Williams was fired from the Grand Ole O pry after repeated absences and performance issues. For a performer whose identity was closely tied to the Opry, the dismissal was almost unthinkable.

What makes the story so remarkable is that Williams remained enormously popular. Even as his career seemed to be unraveling behind the scenes, he continued turning out hit songs that would become country music classics.

The MGM cancellation, however, marked the beginning of a heartbreaking final chapter.

Less than seven months later, on New Year's Day 1953, Williams died at just 29 years old.
