Parrots Form a Full-on Choir Complete With Rendition of 'Wheels on the Bus'

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:55am

In my house, none of my pets talk using actual human words, and to be honest, it's a real bummer. Of all the times I needed my senior rescue dog to reciprocate the exaggerated, overflowing, and flowery verbiage that I use to express my love for him, he just stares at me with his tail wagging. Sometimes I'd like to hear an "I love you, too," or maybe even a few lines from a song, you know?

When I need a pet-talking fix, I know I can always count on TikTok, where there are chatty birds galore. One of which, Brody the Yellow-Naped Parrot, is a long-standing favorite, thanks to the hilarious songs he comes up with. This time, he has some help from a Conure bud, and it's *chef's kiss*!

For starters, this Parrot does a magnificent job performing fan favorite, "I'm a Bad Boy" all on his own, but the addition of the Conure coming in with some "zoomie zoomie" tops things off perfectly.

Passionately singing "The Wheels on the Bus" is one of Brody's top three song choices, but each time, he puts his own little spin on it. Having this little bird choir team up for a special rendition feels like we've been blessed by the universe!

When Brody's not joined by a friend's talents, he's always practicing new tunes. Lately, one of his favorites is opera, but there's always a little bit of "Wheels" and "Bad Boy" for kicks.

Also, I've never seen him and Taylor Swift in the same room. I'm just saying!

It never gets old 🤭 #parrot #singingparrot #talkingparrot #funny #funnyanimals

With a knack for entertaining, Brody was always meant for the spotlight. As a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, he has all the coolest traits like:

  • Intelligence
  • Confidence
  • Theatrical, dramatic personality
  • Sociability
  • Skilled talking (and singing!)
  • Affection

While birds like Brody are engaging little comedians, they can also be demanding and require a lot of attention. That said, they're not the best pet for just anyone. They can be strong-willed, so they do need a home with consistent training and boundaries.

With all of that in place, these cute Parrots are incredible, funny companions. If you're lucky, you might score your very own bird version of Mariah Carey like Brody!

Proud Pup Shows Off His Huge Seaweed Train Like It’s the Catch of the Day

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:44am

Dogs have a way of making life’s special moments even better. Without trying, they bring joy wherever they go.

For Herb, a day on the boat with his parents wasn’t just time on the water. It was the day they got engaged. And in true scene-stealing style, this adorable boy dragged a long train of seaweed behind him like he was modeling a gown for the new bride. The pride on his face is impossible to miss and guaranteed to make you smile.

Watch him swim along with his latest prize in this adorable Instagram shared by @alfie_and_herb on February 14:

View this post on Instagram

That was quite a catch, Herb. Maybe he heard brides wear long trains and decided to help Mom find her style. He paddles back to the boat, looking incredibly pleased, wearing an expression that seems to say, “See what I found?” And while his parents’ day would have been special without the seaweed delivery, the moment adds an extra layer of joy and proves, once again, that dogs make everything better.

Herb’s fans loved watching.

Viewer @maadows joked, “Have scientists named this newly discovered sea creature yet?”

@remyaroundtheworld added, “He brought you an engagement gift, duh.”

And @kirkmatthewmeyers noted, “Very proudly swimming back to Mom & Dad to show them. Such characters aren’t they!”

Herb clearly enjoys the beach as much as boat days. In another Instagram clip shared February 11, he discovers a muddy swimming hole and makes the most of it.

View this post on Instagram Dogs Retrieve and Carry Objects They Find Interesting

Dogs often enjoy picking up and carrying objects in their mouths, whether it’s a toy, a stick, or something unexpected from the water. According to the American Kennel Club, many dogs find this behavior rewarding, especially when it earns attention or praise. Carrying and returning items can tap into instincts tied to exploration, play, and problem-solving. For dogs like Herb, bringing a prized find back to their people can feel like a successful mission worth showing off.

Moments like this are part of what makes sharing life with a dog so memorable. They don’t understand engagements, wedding traditions, or what a train on a gown is supposed to look like. They just know something exciting is happening and want to be part of it.

Herb’s seaweed delivery may not have been planned, but it captured the joy of the day in a way no photo ever could. Years from now, when this mom and dad tell the story of their engagement, there’s a good chance Herb’s proud swim back to the boat will be a detail that still makes everyone laugh.

World’s Oldest Cockatiel Turns 33, and His Family Credits a Surprising Diet

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:55am

Move over, spring chickens! There’s a seasoned songbird stealing the spotlight.

A cockatiel named Sonny has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living cockatiel—and at 33 years old, he’s more than doubled the typical lifespan of his species.

For context, most cockatiels live between 10 and 15 years, but Sonny? He’s out here rewriting the rulebook.

A New Guinness World Record Holder @guinnessworldrecords

Guinness confirmed his record in late 2025 when he was already past 32 years old. In January, he celebrated his 33rd birthday—an extraordinary milestone for the beloved bird who’s spent decades charming his family.

What Is Sonny's Longevity Secret?

Sonny lives in Illinois with the Reicher family, who brought him home when he was just 12 weeks old. At the time, they never imagined he’d still be part of the family more than three decades later.

So what’s Sonny’s secret? According to his family, his menu might play a role.

While many pet birds stick to standard seed blends and pellets, Sonny enjoys a surprisingly varied diet. His owner, Janet Reicher, says he eats a high-protein diet made up of human foods, including freshly baked muffins, vegetables, eggs, chicken, pasta, bread and potatoes. Sounds pretty good to me!

But Janet says his diet likely isn't the only factor—other contributors likely include good genes, cleanliness, and lots of love and attention

A 33-Year Bond

Over the years, Sonny has become a beloved family member. He rarely hangs out in his cage, preferring instead to perch nearby, keep an eye on household happenings and soak up as much attention as possible.

Like many cockatiels, Sonny once had quite the vocabulary and could whistle full tunes like The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Andy Griffith Show theme and The Addams Family. Age has quieted him a bit, but he still pipes up with a few familiar words and "baby babble."

Why His Story Matters

Sonny’s milestone isn’t just a feel-good headline—it’s a reminder of what thoughtful, consistent care can do. Birds aren’t low-maintenance “starter pets.” They need enrichment, social interaction, proper nutrition and attentive health care. But when those needs are met, they can live and thrive for many years.

And if freshly baked muffins are part of the equation? Well, who am I to argue with a world record holder?!

This Foster Pup Looks So Much Like a Beloved ‘Harry Potter’ Character, It’s Almost Magical

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:55am

If you’ve ever watched Harry Potter and thought, “I would absolutely adopt Dobby,” you’re not alone. And thanks to an adorable foster pit bull pup on Instagram, that dream could become a reality for one lucky person.

In a viral Reel posted by a woman named Brooklyn Washburn (@brooklyn.washburn), she cheerfully says, “Dobby the elf says good morning,” before lifting up her foster puppy, Oliver, for the camera. For comparison, she even places a photo of Dobby from the Harry Potter films on the screen.

Meet Oliver (aka Dobby the Elf) View this post on Instagram

The resemblance is uncanny. With his oversized ears, soulful eyes and expressive face, Oliver truly looks like he stepped straight out of Hogwarts. The video has since racked up almost 2 million likes and thousands of comments, with viewers flooding the post to express just how much he looks like the beloved house-elf.

But as adorable as the comparison is, Oliver’s story goes far beyond a viral moment.

A Heartwarming Rescue Story

After the Dobby video took off, viewers wanted to know more about the tiny pup with the big ears. Washburn later shared another video explaining that she’s fostering Oliver through Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue in Washington state.

She was already fostering Oliver’s sister, a one-eyed pit bull puppy named Junie B., when Oliver’s original owners reached out to the rescue for help. He had developed a rectal prolapse, and they were unable to afford the veterinary care he needed.

The rescue took Oliver back, and when Washburn heard about his situation, she didn’t hesitate—she knew she had to foster him too.

Since then, Oliver has had multiple veterinary visits and ultimately required surgery to repair the rectal prolapse. And more recently, he was diagnosed with carpal laxity after developing an ankle issue.

Despite the setbacks, Oliver is reportedly doing great and continues to recover under Washburn’s care.

A Magical Future Ahead

While he may look like a fictional character, Oliver’s journey is very real, and it’s a testament to the power of rescue and foster care.

For now, he’s still on the road to recovery, but when he’s fully healed and ready, he’ll be available for adoption through Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue.

And if the internet has anything to say about it, this little “Dobby” won’t be waiting long for his happily-ever-after.

This Fan-Favorite Pet Brand Just Changed the Food Game With This Surprising First-Ever Achievement

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:42am

We all care about what we feed our pets as much as we feed ourselves. However, hidden ingredients like contaminants or unhealthy fillers can often deteriorate the quality of foods. Labels don’t list pesticides, heavy metals and other toxic ingredients, so we often don’t have any clues to what we're really feeding our furry friends and family.

Because of this, we appreciate the brands that go above and beyond when it comes to our pets and their favorite foods, and one pet food brand was just awarded for its next-level approach to ingredients.

FreshPet has become the first and only pet food company in the United States and Canada so far to earn the highest marks for having the “cleanest” ingredients in its products. Clean Label Project, a nonprofit that studies food for pets and people, has awarded FreshPet its Purity Award for quality of ingredients and safety.

Transparency in Pet Food Nutrition

Clean Label Project’s mission is dedicated to transparency and to “expose hidden risks—like heavy metals, pesticides, and plasticizers that don’t appear on labels but can impact long-term health and fertility,” according to the nonprofit’s website.

Clean Label Project studied 79 best-selling dog foods with more than 11,000 tests that resulted in its Dog Food Category Report. The study found that many popular dry dog foods had high concentrations of heavy metals and other contaminants, and fresh and frozen dog foods had the lowest level of heavy metals.

FreshPet’s evaluation took about a year of lab testing for potentially harmful ingredients. Other pet brands have also met the high standards set by the Clean Label Project.

For the past 20 years, FreshPet has served up fresh dog and cat foods developed by veterinary nutritionists, according to the company. Its recipes use natural ingredients from farmers and companies that align with its nutritional values. All products are made in the U.S. and are sold in this country, Canada and Europe.

Other Organizations Involved in Pet Food Nutrition

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is another nonprofit association setting standards on state, federal and international levels for pet and people foods made in the U.S. Its main mission is to promote a safe food chain by establishing guidelines for ingredients, nutritional statements, labels, feeding instructions and lab research.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) makes sure foods and medicines are safe and effective for human and animal consumption, and it also regulates cosmetics and tobacco goods.

Our physical and mental wellness rely on healthy ingredients for people and pets. The trend today is a preference for more natural and organic foods for ourselves and often for our animal companions as well, and we're happy to see more brands taking this into consideration when creating and improving their products.

Drama Queen Husky Has the Best Revenge Reaction to Being Told No

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 7:48am

When you live with a Siberian husky, you quickly learn one thing: they always have something to say about everything. And they will always come back at you. Widely recognized as one of the most vocal and opinionated dog breeds, they do not bark; they howl. And that sound will echo in your ears all the time.

A recent viral video proved, in the most hilarious way, that these dogs have an opinion and are not afraid to show it.

In the video, we see Maya, a popular Husky, sitting on the couch. Her owner tells her, "Maya, you are a big brat," but she refuses to accept that. While many of her previous videos show Maya acting in a spoiled or demanding manner, she doesn't want to accept it.

When you think dogs do not understand us, just watch the video over and over again. The second time her owner tells her Maya that she is a brat, she gets the most hilarious revenge. But let that be a lesson. When you argue with a spoiled dog, you will never win!

The Internet's Reaction

Of course, some fans agreed with Maya, with one commenting, "No, she's not! She's a good girl." Among the many hearts and love emojis, some people also noticed a very interesting fact.

The cat, which sometimes argues with Maya, is rather quiet in the video. As one user put it, "The cat disagrees."

Siberian Huskies, the Most Stubborn Breed

Widely known as one of the sassiest dogs around, any Siberian husky owner will tell you these dogs are stubborn. One way or another, they make their point. It is up to you to accept it as a fact and learn to live with it.

Originally bred to pull sleds across long Arctic distances, these dogs are smart and independent, but also incredibly expressive. Unlike some dogs that aim to please at every turn, huskies think for themselves. They will always talk back and argue with you in the most dramatic way.

Their dramatic howl is legendary, and their expressive eyes and animated body language only add to their reputation for being spoiled.

At the same time, they are very social and often treat their human as a member of the pack. But while some dogs tend to protect their members of the pack, huskies put their humans in their place. And Maya showed us exactly how they do that.

Joyful Little Jack Russel Terrier Sits Proudly As Restaurant Staff Sing ‘Happy Birthday’

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 7:20am

Some dogs are happiest chasing a ball or guarding the backyard. Others thrive on being the center of attention. And when there's a celebration involved, you can bet they're ready for their moment.

Plenty of pet parents throw at-home parties with pup-safe cake and squeaky-toy gifts. But for a Jack Russell Terriernamed Ismol, her birthday went far beyond the living room. Her special day unfolded at a restaurant, where staff surprised her with a cupcake decorated to look like her and a full musical rendition of "Happy Birthday," complete with instruments.

The sweet moment was shared on TikTok by @bongledesma642 on February 12, capturing Ismol soaking in every second of her big day.

@bongledesma642

At first, Ismol appears to realize the song is meant just for her. She pauses, looking around as the staff sings in her honor. In a very relatable, almost human way, the attention seems to make her a little shy. Anyone who has endured a restaurant birthday serenade knows that exact feeling.

Related: Jack Russell Pays More Attention to the Flight Attendant's Safety Demo Than Anyone and We're Dying

But when her dad, Bong, gently encourages her to hop back onto the chair, she regains her composure and settles in for the second half of the performance. Perhaps she understood the celebration would end with a tasty cupcake featuring her own adorable face. Whatever initial embarrassment she felt quickly gave way to birthday pride and a happy tail wag.

Viewers were charmed by the relatable reaction.

"So the embarrassment isn't exclusive to humans then," @Gone joked.

"I love people who treat their pets like this," @Buffestmommy wrote.

And @Pinkypoints summed up the moment many noticed: "Her little tail wagging at the end."

Ismol's birthday moment isn't the only time she's won viewers' hearts. In a video shared last August, the clever pup shows off her smarts as she helps Bong track down his car keys.

♬ original sound - Bong Ledesma642 - Bong Ledesma642 Dogs Respond to Happy Voices and Social Attention

Dogs don't need to understand the words "Happy Birthday" to recognize when they're the focus of something special. The American Kennel Club notes that dogs can detect emotional cues in human voices and respond differently to happy, upbeat tones than to neutral or negative ones. When voices rise with excitement, and people gather with smiles and focused attention, dogs often interpret the moment as positive and directed toward them.

In a restaurant filled with cheerful singing, instruments, and smiling faces, it made sense that Ismol paused to take it all in. The sounds, attention, and celebratory energy signaled that something good was happening. By the time the song ended, she seemed more than ready to embrace her role as guest of honor.

Great Pyrenees-Bernese Mountain Puppy Can't Sit Still for Video and Ambushes Camera Like a Floofy Jump-Scare

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 7:10am

Puppies are like fluffy toddlers. They have little patience or impulse control, but make up for it in charm and over-the-top cuteness. Trying to get either to sit still is a monumental challenge and often requires some sort of motivation or bribery. When attempting to take a photo or video, you have to act quickly or you'll just get a big blur.

Hagen the Great Pyrenees-Bernese Mountain mix puppy was supposed to stay put while his mom took a video for followers, but he wasn't a fan of the camera or being left alone.

In the TikTok from @allieeeee_89, Hagen's mom was trying to put him into a pose so she could record him.

"They're going to watch you real quick, so just hang tight," she encouraged him, hoping he would sit still for just a few seconds. She gave him some extra pets and slowly walked away. "Be a good boy. I'll be right back."

Hagen immediately glanced around the room, not sure of what was going on other than his mom leaving his side. He started whining to express his angst and continued to look for his mother. After mere seconds, Hagen marched toward the camera and pawed at it, knocking it over and thus ending the film shoot.

The footage his mom obtained consisted of her pep talk, followed by his confusion and vocal protests, and ended with a close-up of a giant floof ball heading straight for the camera in an ambush.

Followers got a kick out of the poofy cloud coming toward them in the closing scene.

"Bro really ended the video," one remarked.

"Good thing he remained calm and absolutely didn't move from his spot," another joked.

"He gave us all a BOOP," someone noted.

Great Pyrenees-Bernese Mountain Hybrids Need Exercise

This crossbreed is known for its gentle and friendly nature, making a Great Pyrenees-Bernese Mountain mix — or Great Bernese — a wonderful family pet. These hybrids often serve as therapy dogs due to their loving and affectionate demeanor.

7 Signs Your Rescue Dog Is Starting to Feel Safe

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 6:10am

As a pet parent, welcoming a rescue dog into your home is a big deal, not only for you but for your new pooch. If your pup has a tough history, it will likely take some time until they feel safe and comfortable with you. Obviously, this takes patience and TLC, but you’ll eventually get to a point where you feel like family. While you’re on that journey together, it’s understandable to want to know where you and your new fur baby stand. However, since dogs communicate without words, it can be hard to know what your dog's mood is or how they are feeling. To help you understand your pup better, we rounded up 7 signs your rescue dog finally feels safe, according to experts.

Just be aware that rescue dogs may take some time to open up. With that, they may be harder to read at first than a dog without a storied past. While the idea of you and your pup running across the yard to jump into each other’s arms when you hit that level of comfort is sweet, the reality is that this is a gradual process and forming a bond with your dog will take time. “When a rescue dog truly feels safe, it usually shows up in quiet, subtle ways rather than one big moment,” says Amber Batteiger, a veterinary nurse with Embrace Pet Insurance. So, keep giving your furry companion plenty of love, affection and, most importantly, time.

As you build trust with your rescue dog, experts say to watch for key signs your adopted dog feels loved and accepted. Noticing these rescue dog behavior cues shows your pup is adjusting to their new home, feeling emotionally secure, and enjoying life in their forever home.

Every dog is an individual, which means each will show different ways that they feel safe. However, experts say these are common signs that may surface, which is why you should watch for things like relaxed body language and trusting behavior as they can all show your dog is adjusting to their new home, building emotional security, and your dog's mental health is improving. Check out all the signs below!

1. They don’t look stressed out

Rescue dogs who have faced trauma often carry tension in their bodies, moving stiffly or staying on high alert. So, if you're a pet parent to a dog from a shelter, be on the lookout for a change in your dog's body language as it can be your dog's way of communicating that they feel at peace with you. "When a pup feels safe, their body language softens with looser posture, relaxed ears and maybe a slowly wagging tail,” Batteiger reveals.

2. They choose to interact with you

Rescue dogs have a lot that they’re grappling with, and that can mean they’re uncertain about spending time with you at first. That's why one clear sign your rescue dog feels safe and comfortable is when they actively choose to interact with you. Batteiger recommends paying attention to your dog's behaviors and body language around you to see how it changes over time. This can include them settling nearby, checking in on throughout the day, or initiating gentle contact with you. "Your pup may also start to put their paw on you," says Erin Askeland, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, Camp Bow Wow's animal health and behavior expert. "This is a sign of affection that they want your attention and feel comfortable asking for it," she explains.

3. They move out of ‘survival mode’

A difficult past can make it hard for a rescue dog to relax. “I’ll never forget one of my previously foster dogs who had never had a toy, a bed or anything that was truly his own. For weeks, he stayed alert and guarded,” Batteiger says. “Then one night, he gently picked up a toy, curled himself into his bed, let out a deep sigh and fell asleep. In that moment, I knew he was finally out of survival mode and felt safe and could finally ‘be a dog.’”

Sleep is a vulnerable time for dogs, and a pup who feels safe will feel comfortable snoozing around you, according to Askeland. Batteiger adds you may also notice your pooch sleeping more deeply, too. These are all signs of improved dog mental health, trust and emotional well-being thanks to their new home.

4. They show off their personality

Batteiger says one way to tell your rescue dog feels safe, is when you begin to see glimpses of their personality shine though. “They will begin to rest, play and show their personality because they no longer feel like they have to be on edge all the time,” she says. So, if your pooch starts whipping out the zoomies, it’s a good sign and one way you can tell your rescue dog is happy.

5. They make their own choices

One sign your rescue dog feels safe if when they start being a little more independent. This may be a sign that pet parents don't notice at first or may not think is a big deal, even though it is. "A dog who feels secure will start to make their own choices. That can include choosing where to sleep, when to engage with people and when to walk away," Batteiger explains. So, if you notice your rescue dog confidently exploring the house, settling into a favorite resting spot, or calmly deciding when to seek attention, these are positive signs of emotional security.

6. They show resilience

Every dog faces challenges, but for many rescue pups—especially those with a history of trauma or neglect—recovering from stress can take time. Early rescue dog behavior often includes heightened anxiety, fear responses, or difficulty coping with sudden noises and new environments.

As your adopted dog begins adjusting to their new home, you may notice an important shift: resilience. Rescue dogs who feel safe will start to show this sign, according to Batteiger. “They might still get startled, but they'll recover faster,” she says. In fact, faster recovery from loud sounds, unfamiliar visitors, or minor disruptions is a strong sign your rescue dog is building trust and emotional security. This improved response shows your dog feels safe, is settling in and is developing confidence in their environment and in you.

7. They’re OK with being bored

Rescue dogs are often stressed, restless and on high alert for danger. That's why it’s actually a good sign when your pup can sit around and do nothing. “One of the biggest indicators your dog is content is when they can relax and be ‘bored,’” Batteiger says. “A dog who no longer feels the need to stay alert all the time is a dog who finally feels secure.” This type of relaxed dog body language shows growing trust, emotional security and healthy bonding between you and your rescue pup. Your dog feels loved enough to chill out.

6 Heartbreaking Signs Your Cat is Sad, According to Vets

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 5:10am

You know your cat better than anyone, and that means you’re well aware when they’re just not themselves. If your furry family member has been through some things lately, it’s fair to wonder if your cat is sad. Unfortunately, your cat can’t just verbalize to you that they’re upset, but they do share their feelings, you just need to know what to look for. To help you understand your cat better and decode how cats communicate, we rounded up 6 heartbreaking signs your cat is feeling sad.

That way, the next time your cat seems off, you will know how to read your cat's body language and their behavioral signs. “Cats can exhibit signs of sadness or even depression, you just may not notice it at first,” says Hilary Humm-Beatty, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. In fact, she says if you've ever thought to yourself, "Why is my cat acting sad?" there can actually be a range of reasons why your pet is depressed. "Some of those can include the loss of a companion animal, the loss of a human companion, the addition of a person or pet in your house, stress and even environmental changes," Humm-Beatty explains.

Of course, if your cat's mood is off and doesn’t seem to be getting back to their usual self, it’s important to rope in your vet to see what could be going on. “If your cat seems sad or depressed, please check with your veterinarian as they can talk through what is happening with your cat and how to best help them” Humm-Beatty says. But, if you suspect your cat may be sad, vets recommend looking out for these tell-tale signs.

Every cat shows emotions differently, making it hard to say if your cat is struggling with sadness or not. "Cats are subtle when they communicate,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. "Any change in their behavior could be a sign that something isn’t right physically or mentally. In fact, noticeable changes can suggest your pet is stressed, dealing with a low mood or even has a physical problem that impacts their mindset." Below are some of the most common signs that mean your cat is sad.

Their routine has changed

Sometimes cats just like to mix things up. But if your kitty is suddenly napping at odd hours or skipping the little routines you’ve come to know and love, it could be a sign your cat is feeling down, according to Humm-Beatty.

To cheer them up, try gently encouraging your sad cat back into routine with short play sessions, a cozy nap spot, or extra treats at familiar times as keeping things predictable can help lift their mood.

They’re not grooming as much as usual

Cats spend a lot of time grooming under normal circumstances for hygiene, stress relief and plenty of other reasons. If you’ve noticed your cat has dramatically cut back on grooming time or stopped altogether, Humm-Beatty says that suggests they’re not feeling like themselves.

They’re sleeping more

Did you know your cat can communicate that they are sad by whether or not they are sleeping more than usual? It's true! Your cat’s sleep habits and cuddling style can tell you a lot about their mental health. “Cats sleep less when they feel mentally stimulated and comfortable,” Warner says. “Sleeping more can indicate pulling back emotionally, boredom or stress, particularly following changes such as a new pet, moving home or changes to daily routines.” This can also be a way your cat’s body is recovering or conserving energy when something doesn’t feel right, Warner says.

They don’t want to play

When it comes to sad cat behavior, not wanting to play and do zoomies is one of them. Every cat has a different level of playfulness, but you know what’s typical for your pet. “Loss of interest in playtime is a very telling sign, as playtime is an indicator of mental stimulation,” Warner says. “Cats who stop playing may be feeling anxious or bored.” She also notes that this behavior can also be a sign of physical illness, so it’s important to monitor for other depressed cat symptoms or health changes.

Their appetite is off

Another unhappy cat sign has to do with their food intake. If your cat doesn’t eat as much food on any given night, it could be an outlier. But if you notice that they’re consistently not eating as much as usual, Humm-Beatty says it’s time to call your vet. “Evolutionarily, cats have developed the ability to hide signs of illness to protect themselves in the wild,” she explains. “Pet cats retain this trait and are very good at hiding their illness. Often, by the time the pet owner sees signs like decreased appetite, has been sick for days or longer and needs immediate veterinary care.”

Monitoring changes in cat appetite, food intake, and behavior can help you catch early depressed cat symptoms, ensuring your furry friend gets care promptly.

They’ve lost weight

One important cat depression sign to watch for is unexpected weight loss in your cat. If you’re wondering, “Why is my cat losing weight?” or noticing a loss of appetite in your cat, it could be linked to stress, emotional changes, or an underlying medical issue. “Cats may stop eating due to stress or unhappiness, but underlying physical problems such as digestive problems, chronic illnesses or dental problems are common,” she says.

If your cat has weight loss, she says it’s “essential” to see your vet to rule out any physical causes before looking at emotional factors. Tracking changes in appetite, behavior, and body condition can help you recognize early signs your cat is sad, stressed, or unwell.

Ragdoll Kitten's Tiny Half-and-Half-Colored Paw Perfectly Mirrors Her Unique Face

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 9:20pm

Some kittens are cute. And then some kittens look like they were carefully painted by a very detail-oriented artist who got carried away halfway through. Tulip is one of those kittens.

She’s a tiny Ragdoll baby sleeping on her back, completely unbothered by the fact that she appears to have two different fur patterns meeting perfectly down the center of her face. One side light. One side darker. Already dramatic. Already special.

But then her cat mom notices something even more ridiculously cute.

@pearlsragdolls

Tulip's paw matches her face too

♬ original sound - Pearl’s Ragdolls

@pearlsragdolls shared the preciously cute moment, and in the TikTok video, you can hear her say, “I just noticed that not only is Tulip’s face half of two different colors, but one of her paws is half of two different colors. Isn’t that so cute?”

And it is.

One tiny paw, perfectly split to mirror her face. Like the universe committed to the bit.

Related: Mini Dachshund Puppy’s Perfectly Split Face Is Pure Puppy Magic

While her mom gently tries to wake her with, “Tulip, it’s time to wake up,” she just keeps snoozing. Absolute lazy girl energy. The kind where you pretend you didn’t hear your name because the nap is simply more important. I may have been guilty of pulling this same stunt on occasion.

“She’s the perfect combination of both parents,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Whoever gets Tulip is so lucky, her patterns and colorings are one of a kind.”

Someone else said, “Tulip wants to have a lazy girl day in bed!”

“It’s clearly exhausting having two fur patterns like that,” another joked.

And honestly? Fair. That’s a lot to manage.

Tulip really does look like a variegated flower, which feels appropriate, given her name. Also, I’m not saying she knows she’s stunning, but she absolutely knows she doesn’t need to wake up for us.

When Meatball was tiny, he would sleep through anything. Now he’s 2, but Maine Coons are technically considered kittens until about 5 years old, and he still sleeps like it’s a competitive sport. He would absolutely sleep while eating if we allowed it. Commitment.

How Often Do Young Kittens Sleep? @sweetpeacallie

Never wake a sleeping kitten / cat 🥹 #foryou #viral #kitten

♬ original sound - Callie & Mesha B

Young kittens sleep a lot—often between 16 and 20 hours a day. Their bodies are growing rapidly, and that growth requires significant rest.

Sleep helps support brain development, muscle growth, and overall health. It’s completely normal for kittens to have short bursts of playful energy followed by long naps.

So Tulip refusing to wake up? Completely developmentally appropriate. Even if she is, in fact, too pretty to be this relaxed about life.

Golden Retriever Taking Emotional Support Box to Bed Is Pure Comedy

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 8:55pm

I never knew how rewarding it would feel to rescue a senior dog until I adopted one. We may have missed out on most of my of our Staffy's life, but I'm eternally grateful for every day we have together now. Even with the challenges, like his past traumas and how they manifest each day, he shows us what real, unconditional love feels like.

Duke, a senior Golden Retriever, was rescued a couple of years ago, and thankfully, he's in a loving home with a patient, supportive mom. However, due to his previous life, this sweet boy has a hoarding issue. He goes shopping in the house and takes different items to his bed whenever the mood strikes. This time, it's a Shark vacuum box, which he uses as a pillow, and it's too precious.

@lifewithduke2025

Well this was a surprise. He is still Napping with the box an hour later. You’ve just got to love him! 💕#funnydogs #rescuedogs #rescuedogsoftiktok #funnydogsoftiktok #seniordog

♬ original sound - lifewithduke2025

As long as Duke has been in his forever home, he still manages to surprise his mom with his interesting choices, like this Shark vacuum box. The precious boy who loves a good flea market find, like a trash can, has fans anxiously awaiting what he'll choose each time, and it's always a trip!

"Payin' bills, doin' chores, teaching his sibling tricks… So busy," one person commented. "Waiting for Duke to come around the corner is so exciting," another shared (and I agree). "The back room is his treasure hunt room," another pointed out. The world really is his *freebie* oyster!

Related: Golden Retriever Strutting to Mom With a Special Delivery Is Everything

Things Duke Has Taken to His Bed

The best part of Duke is never knowing what he'll deem the item of the day. Getting a rise out of Mom by taking the bills is one thing, but my personal favorite stolen goods include the emotional support lamp, a bag of apples, a bottle of bubbly, couch pillows, an empty kibble bin, and so many more.

With the addition of his new rescue sister, Leona, Duke has only amped up the intensity and uniqueness of items. I have to hand it to him for the creativity. What in the world goes through his brain when he decides he'd like to cuddle with fine china?!

None of that compares to this interesting/disgusting choice:

@lifewithduke2025

Note: I throw bleach in and wash the plunger when I’m finished with it. That is faded, not 💩! 😂😂#funnydogs #funnydogsoftiktok #rescuedogsoftiktok #seniordog #goldenretriever

Duke may have chosen a cardboard box today, but tomorrow, who knows? That's the best part! It's Duke's world, and we're all grateful to be witnesses to it!

Longhaired Dachshund Refuses To Ride in Car Unless Dad Holds Her Paw

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 8:20pm

Some dogs get in the car and immediately assume adventure, or at the very least, a trip for a pup cup. Others? They assume betrayal. This little cream-colored, Longhaired Dachshund named Ellie is firmly in the second group. She’s sitting in the front seat in a pink winter vest, looking like a tiny Victorian child being sent away to boarding school. Her dad asks, “What?” then reassures her, “You’re fine.” She is, in fact, not fine.

She is shaking and whining.

And then he asks the most important question of the entire video: “Want me to hold your hand?”

Dear reader. She does.

@elliedalilween

Dad-oholic 24/7 🤌🏼✨😮‍💨 Holding hands is non-negotiable #dachshund #fyp #funnydogs #cute #clingypet

♬ I Do Whatever The Fuck I Want - Nick Hustles

TikTok user @elliedalilween captioned it, “Dad-oholic 24/7. Holding hands is non-negotiable,” and that pretty much sums it up.

The second he holds her little paw, she visibly settles. Not dramatically. Not over the top. Just enough to say yes, this is the correct arrangement.

Related: Golden Retriever Making Mom ‘Hold His Hand’ Is a Full-Time Job

“She’s just a girl.”

“This might be the prettiest dog I’ve ever seen.”

“You better keep holding her paw!”

“She shouldn’t have even had to ask!”

“She just needed some emotional support.”

“My 75 lb. Golden Retrieverinsists on holding my hand in the car, only letting go when I tell him I have to turn.”

“What a delicate little buttercup.”

“Sir, apparently, I am not fine! Yes, hold my hand!”

“Passenger princess.”

And honestly? Passenger princess is accurate.

There is something about a Longhaired Dachshund that already feels delicate, and then you add trembling and a pink vest, and now we’re in full emotional support territory. She looks like she has very strong opinions about seat warmers.

Whenever I try to hold any of my pets’ paws, though, they immediately assume it’s time for a nail trim. The second I gently touch a paw, they go stiff like I’ve pulled out clippers. Trust issues everywhere.

Meatball (my huge Maine Coon) used to tolerate his travel system like a gentleman. It was this whole structured setup that made me feel like a responsible adult. Now he is so enormous that he barely fits in anything. He looks at the old carrier as if it’s a suggestion. I genuinely need to upgrade before his next vet appointment, maybe a kennel in the trunk area, because he is built like a furry ottoman at this point. He became a big boy quickly.

This Dachshund, though? She just needs a hand.

Also, I’m not saying I would drive one-handed for an unreasonable amount of time if my dog looked at me like that, but I’m not not saying it either.

How To Keep Your Pet Safe in the Car @cococosugar

Keeping your pet safe in the car isn’t just about comfort—it’s about safety and life 🐶🚗petsafety petseatbelt dogseatbelts #dogtravel #dogsoftiktok

♬ original sound - COCO - COCO

While holding paws is adorable, safety in the car is important for both pets and their people.

Small dogs should ideally ride in a secured carrier or a properly fitted, crash-tested harness that attaches to the seatbelt. Allowing pets to roam freely in the front seat can increase the risk of injury during sudden stops or accidents.

For larger pups and cats, sturdy crates or travel kennels secured in the trunk area of an SUV can provide more protection. There are also vehicle barriers designed to keep pets safely contained in the back.

It’s always a good idea to get pets used to car travel slowly, using positive reinforcement (lots of treats!) and short practice drives. Some animals simply need reassurance, like this little Dachshund. Others need structure. And some, like my own dog Kingston, just need to dramatically announce their feelings about everything.

The goal is safety first. Paw holding second. Even if it is very hard to resist.

Corgi Running Laps on a DIY Snow Track Is Quite Inspiring

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 7:55pm

Feeling a little uninspired this winter?

You aren't the only one.

With the cold temperatures and the scary news, sometimes staying in bed just seems like the best answer.

Of course, you could turn on the Olympics and watch the incredible athletes do absolutely incredible things.

However, that is almost intimidating at times.

So perhaps this new video of a Corgi running laps on a DIY snow track will inspire you to get outside and be your best self!

Shared on the account @bb8.thecorgi, the Corgi BB8 (named for the adorable Star Wars droid) is just loving running around his DIY snow track in his yard.

He has zoomies to the fullest, and he is getting it done!

It almost makes you want to go run in the snow (or just watch this video a few times).

He is a fast little guy!

His parents wrote the caption, "Corgi Winter Olympics," and we can see why!

@bb8.thecorgi

Corgi winter zoomies loading ❄️🐶 #corgi #corgisoftiktok #winterolympics2026 #winterdog

♬ original sound - parker 🎧ྀི Why Do Dogs Get Zoomies?

In another recent video from the same account, we see BB8 back at the track, but possibly going even faster.

His mom wrote the caption: "Corgi zoomies in the snow will go on and on. It’s a stress reliever."

@bb8.thecorgi

Corgi zoomies in the snow will go on and on. It’s a stress reliever ❄️🐶 #corgis #dogsoftiktok #pembrokewelshcorgi #welshcorgi #winterdog

♬ Super Mario 64 Slider Racing Song - namasty.woman

So the question is: Why do dogs get the zoomies?

First, let’s define zoomies.

Zoomies are high bursts of energy that often arise suddenly and are released by sprinting back and forth, running in circles (maybe in the snow), bouncing up and down, and jumping all over furniture.

There is actually a technical name for zoomies, which is frenetic random activity periods (FRAPs), according to the American Kennel Club.

But FRAPs aren’t quite as fun to say as zoomies!

OK, so now we know what they are, but why do dogs get zoomies?

Usually, zoomies are a way to release some tension and anxiety, according to Daily Paws.

Zoomies can also be a way to get warmer at a faster rate, which could apply to this video of BB8, as it looks pretty cold there.

Zoomies can also just be a way to celebrate being a happy dog!

For the most part, zoomies are a positive thing, but if you notice your pet getting them multiple times a day, and maybe at weird times, like early in the morning, you may need to exercise your pup more.

Golden Retriever Is the Cutest Little Drama King 'Telling' Mom He Hurt His Nose

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 7:20pm

Before I had dogs, I often heard people compare them to kids—especially when it comes to bringing the drama over pretty much everything. I have two pups now, each with their own distinct personality, and there's never a dull moment.

Duke, the Golden Retriever, is his mom's "only child," which means he knows the world stops when he needs something. In a recent video, this precious pup ran right to his favorite human when he hurt his nose, and it's the sweetest thing ever.

A Golden Retriever lying on the floor looks at the camera.

If ever there was an award for "performance by a cute dog," Duke would win multiple times over. Being Mom's main man means he can get away with anything, but when he's hurt and rushes in for comfort, it's one precious scene.

When a dog trusts us to make them feel better, it's the greatest feeling in the world, and that's exactly what Duke did here. The good boy somehow cut his nose while playing outside. It's nothing too serious, but the sweet pup knew Mom's affection was the only thing that would fix it.

Dramatic, sure, but also equal parts adorable. This is his way of communicating, and it's sending his fans into a frenzy.

"Cancelling all plans until Duke's recovery," one follower wrote. "Well, my weekend is ruined," another joked. "Oh gosh, I have to cancel plans this weekend to process," another added.

When you're the only child of a mom who's obsessed with you, chances are you're living the life we all dream of. Seeing as Duke's mom, Zarah, shares their tight-knit bond with the rest of us, we have definitive proof that Duke is thriving!

His nose is healing, but he's soaking up all the attention he can get (as any pup would do!). Personal space means nothing when you've got a Golden Retriever like this funny guy.

Tuxedo Cat Meets LEGO Version of Himself and Immediately Hates It

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:55pm

There are many things a Tuxedo cat will tolerate. A vacuum? No. A closed door? Also no.
A plastic brick version of himself sitting in the living room? I beg your finest pardon?

Pumpkin, a very real and very opinionated Tuxedo cat, walks up to a completed LEGO Tuxedo kitty build like he’s conducting an inspection. The set is just sitting there, minding its business. Identical color blocking. Tiny brick paws. Innocent. Plastic. Pumpkin is not fooled.

He approaches. He pauses. He hisses like the LEGO cat has personally insulted him.

@hellastrange18

I enjoyed the cat Lego set, Pumpkin on the other hand does not #catsoftiktok #catlegoset #fyp #legotiktok #foryou @LEGO

♬ original sound - Brittanie

TikTok user @hellastrange18 captioned the hilarious clip, “I enjoyed the cat Lego set, Pumpkin, on the other hand, does not,” which feels like the understatement of the year.

The hiss is immediate. Not confused. Not cautious. Offended. Like big mad.

It’s giving uncanny valley energy.

“It’s the cat’s uncanny valley.”

“Oh… It’s getting knocked off a shelf when you aren’t looking.”

“My cat knocked mine off the shelf into a billion pieces, LMAO.”

“Our cats hated it, too.”

“My cat loves it! She helped me build it, and by that I mean steal pieces from me.”

And listen. That is exactly what my Maine Coon Meatball would do. He has zero tolerance for puzzles, LEGO sets, or any project that does not center on him. If I even open a box of tiny bricks, he appears like a Victorian ghost and immediately steals one piece. Or six. Then he sits on the instructions like, "Good day to you, Sir. I said good day."

There is something deeply personal about a kitty meeting a miniature version of himself and deciding, absolutely not. No duplicates allowed in this house.

Also, I’m not saying Pumpkin looked personally betrayed by the existence of LEGO Pumpkin, but I’m not not saying that either.

Here's Another Cat Who Hates His LEGO Twin @hey_ashhole

If you thought Pumpkin was dramatic, he’s not alone. Another video making the rounds shows a different cat reacting with equal suspicion to his plastic lookalike. Apparently, brick twins are a universal feline threat. Maybe it’s the stillness. Maybe it’s the audacity. Either way, the message is clear. One cat is enough.

Newfoundland Surprising Grandma in a Tuxedo on Valentine's Day Is Giving Us the Feels

Tue, 02/17/2026 - 6:43pm

Okay, if you're not tearing up a little bit over this, I need you to go check if you still have a pulse. Seriously, we need more Chewys in the world.

There's a heartwarming TikTok from @ChewyTheNewfie that's going around, and it's absolutely wrecking people. Me, included. The caption says "He doesn't play about Grandma 🥹😭❤️" and then explains "Another year surprising his grandma in a tux on Valentine's morning! Her husband passed 30 years ago and he stepped in." What?

Picture this: Valentine's Day morning. Grandma walks downstairs. Waiting by the front door is Chewy the Newfie in a complete tuxedo situation. He's got flowers. Balloons. Gifts. Everything her husband would've brought her if he were still around.

Apparently, Chewy does this every year for his beloved grandma. Every. Single. Year.

@chewythenewfie

He doesn't play about Grandma 🥹😭❤️

People in the comments lost it over the sweetest Newfie boy. Someone wrote "Best boy award goes to🏆" and honestly, there's no debate here.

The sentimental comments were everywhere. "I'm not crying, you are" and "I am crying!!! We are not worthy of dogs!!!" basically summed up how everyone felt.

Someone joked "Joke's on Chewy - I wanted to cry today anyway," while another declared, "Being greeted by this over a man any day of the week."

Newfoundlands Are Known for Their Loyal, Gentle, and Protective Nature

Here's the thing about Chewy doing this—it tracks perfectly if you know anything about Newfoundlands. These dogs are massive (we're talking 130-150 pounds for males), but they're basically gentle giants who live to take care of their humans.

Related: Famous Foster Mom's Dog Has Beef With His Mirror Reflection and We Can't Stop Laughing

Back in the day, Newfies worked alongside fishermen in Canada. They'd help with water rescues, haul nets, do all kinds of jobs. They've always had this thing where they just want to help humans. It's built into them.

Chewy probably picked up on the fact that Valentine's Day was hard for grandma. Dogs notice stuff like that. Especially Newfoundlands, who are crazy smart and super in tune with their families.

These dogs bond deeply with their humans. They're not aggressive at all. In fact, they're calm, sweet, and great with kids. However, they're also protective in this really gentle way and just want to make their humans are okay.

Training Newfies is pretty simple since they're smart and want to make you happy. They respond well to patience and positive reinforcement.

Chewy showing up in that tux with flowers isn't some random thing. It's a Newfie being a Newfie—looking out for his person, making sure she knows she's loved, doing his job.

Grandma's got a Valentine who never forgets, never cancels and always shows up looking dapper. Chewy got grandma.

Mal, a rescue Border Collie, made it clear she had other plans when her dad tried to relax on the couch and watch a movie. The persistent pup repeatedly got in her dad's space -- even falling off the couch from her efforts -- to keep him from paying attention to the screen. She nipped and howled and generally made a nuisance of herself to make sure all eyes remained on her. I wonder: would Mal be as distracting for just any old film, or was it because the movie her dad was trying to watch was Dog, starring Channing Tatum and a rather charming German Shepherd? Border Collies are known to be very smart canines...

Viewers love Mal and were particularly taken with the fact that she seemed to hold her human responsible for her rolling off the couch.

"[She] definitely blamed you for that fall," joked one fan.

"Knocked [herself] over and said, 'Look what you did!!!'” laughed another.

The final funny straw came when Mal forced what I can only imagine was a damp, unappealing toy on her exasperated dad. He immediately replied, "I don't want that!"

Mal is nothing if not entertaining!

Border Collies: The Brainiest Breed

Border Collies like Mal didn’t just accidentally become known as the smartest dog breed — they were built for it. The breed developed along the border of Scotland and England, where shepherds relied on dogs that could think independently while herding sheep across large areas. Instead of barking or chasing, Border Collies used body language and an intense stare to control livestock, which required focus, problem-solving, and quick decision-making.

Researchers often measure canine intelligence by how quickly a dog learns a command and how reliably they obey it. Border Collies stand out dramatically: they can learn new commands in fewer than five repetitions and respond correctly about 95% of the time — far faster than the average dog.

Their intelligence comes from two strengths: strong herding instincts and “adaptive intelligence,” meaning they learn from experience and solve problems on their own.

In general, dogs are often said to have an intelligence level similar to a toddler — roughly comparable to a 2-year-old child. But Border Collies take that a step further.

This famously brainy breed is often considered closer to the cognitive ability of a 4-year-old. In practical terms, that means they can learn more commands, understand complex cues, and carry out multi-step tasks far more easily than many other dogs.

The catch? All that brainpower needs an outlet. Border Collies require both physical exercise and mental stimulation, or they’ll invent their own jobs — sometimes by herding kids, pets, or dads just trying to decompress by watching a harmless film.
